Great Book.......2007-09-27
In my opinion this is one of the best Glamour's books on the market. I bought this one almost an year ago and I read the book few times. I like the fact that everything is explained on easy to understand language and they are a lot of pictures to support all of the techniques used. I think that this book is worth every cent i paid.
Everything you need.......2007-09-25
With the things I learned in this book I have been able to go from taking pictures to taking photographs. It basicly takes you through all the steps needed to learn this fine art. The author has put together a well thought out masterpiece. It is extremely easy to read and is beutifully illustrated. A++++++++++++++++
I also recomend picking up Mr Gomez's book "Glamour Photography" they go very well together
Lots of interesting information, not many great samples..........2007-09-03
The information in this book was pretty good and I did walk away with a few new things to keep in mind. However I was disappointed that much of the photography was either not particularly well shot, or lacked variety in the style in which they were shot. This is subjective though, some people might love the photography in this book, but I didn't personally find it appealing and didn't really find anything that would inspire my own work in the future. I'd give it a 3.5 if I could, but a 4 will have to do.
Not for the beginner.......2007-07-05
The title of this book led me to believe that this would be a simple to undersatnd book, keeping things on a basic level. I found good information in the book, but this is not for the beginner. The book talks about using helpers to hold light reflectors, etc. This is way beyond the simple do it yourself basic book that I was looking for. This is for the more advanced person looking to improve on their already basic knowledge for this type of photography.
It Doesn't Get Any Clearer Than This..........2007-06-26
There is a LOT of info in this book but honestly, it doesn't get any easier than this. Follow the suggestions, practice what he's writing about and you can't help but get better. You'll be impressed at how quickly and dramatically your shooting will improve. I'm not getting compensated here, I'm just telling you what happened with my shooting - it got better fast.

Great Tips.......2007-06-14
This book provides great tips for beginners like myself.
This is rather a photo book, not book about taking photos........2007-03-06
A said before, book consist of basically "well, i was there and i asked {ModelName} to do this, and she selected this pose, which makes this nice image" paragraphs...
So this book is collection of images with few not to detailed sentences about every shot.
I certainly expected more from this book.
Good start but becomes repetitive........2007-02-13
The book isn't very good at really explaining how the shot was created. So if you want to learn about how or why a certain setting was used in detail, this isn't the book for you. If you want to get some good ideas of tasteful nude/portrait photos, this could be the ticket. Some of the narratives of the motivation behind the shot is helpful. However by the end of the book, you may end up disappointed that you read the whole thing. About half way through the book just skim the verbiage and enjoy the photos.
Poor Quality photos, no real information.......2007-02-09
I brought this book a while back and was not happy with it, lucky for amazon I'm a lazy person when it comes to returning things, especially onine. The photos are poor, they look like someone used a compact camera to take the shot, and with no artistic or creative skill either.
There are maybe a few pictures which may be considered close to pro level but as a non pro myself I can already acheive better quality pictures. i expected more than this, there was no depth to the pictures on how they were designed or envisioned by the photographer, just a bunch of random pictures.
awesome.......2007-01-30
A great combination of practical advice and creative insight. This book shows real talent in protraying a delicate subject matter. The use of different locations and lighting techniques shows off Mr. Lemon talent and skill. A must have for any glamour photogher's library

dont buy only for the cover........2007-03-23
the information is very superficial and images looks a little old, like 80's.
Book Description
From Playboy's classic archives comes a trilogy of stocking-stuffer-sized volumes, each devoted to a certain hair color destined to quicken a man's pulse. Blonde? Brunette? Redhead? In the fifties, sixties, and seventies, it seemed like all the Playboy models, not just blondes, had more fun. Building sandcastles in the buff, romping on tiger skin rugs, or starting pillow fights, beauties of every tress are captured in these timeless color photographs. Playboy contributing editor James R. Petersen introduces each book with a heartfelt text, and witty quotes are sprinkled throughout. At once evocative and whimsical, this handsome collection is a perfect gift for a gentleman whether he prefers a blonde, marries a brunette, or has always had a thing for a redhead.
Customer Reviews:
If I can't have red, I'd rather be dead!.......2007-09-05
After reading the other reviews, I was somewhat hesitant to purchase this book. But I love redheads, so I went ahead. I'm glad I did. This book absolutely works for me. My only complaint is the size of the pages. They measure 8 in. x 6 in, nowhere near large enough to do justice to the beauty of these women. Others have complained about the age of the photos, but for me, it adds an intriguing element to the book. It's like a set of rare treasures, sealed in a time capsule for 30 years to scintillate a new generation. The beauty of many of these ladies is enough to overcome the age of the photos, especially Marquerite Empey, Willy Rey, Deanna Baker and Monica Tidwell. Deanna and Monica in particular look as if their pictures were taken yesterday, not in the 70s. The foldout featuring Allison Parks is excellent as well.
If you love redheads, I think you will enjoy this book despite the small pages. But there are a few reasons it might not work for everybody. First is the age of the photos. The most recent date I saw was 1973. For me, a beautiful nude woman is a beautiful nude woman. But if hairstyle affects your appreciation of a woman's body, you will find a few of these photos off-putting. Some of the tan lines are a bit amusing, too. Also, if you're looking for the anatomical lesson to be found in modern Playboy photos, you won't find it here. In other words, there are no microscopic examinations of hairless genitalia here. In fact, there is only one crotch shot, and it is quite hairy. As noted by others, these pictures are a bit more artistic and less explicit than what you will find in the modern magazine. Works for me, but maybe not for all.
I wish the photos were larger, but I have no absolutely regrets about buying this book.
Great Book.......2007-05-15
This book really isn't just another playboy, its more of an art book dedicated to red heads. If you've got a thing for red heads then I would say this book is a good choice. While not all of the girls are attractive some of the prettiest girls I have ever seen are in here. Its interesting to see the changes of women over the decades.
Come On Baby, Light My Fire..........2007-03-26
This mini-volume is one of three vintage photo collections issued by Playboy to celebrate any man's favorite hair color. PLAYBOY: REDHEADS is an homage to that relatively rare though undeniably beautiful and mysterious mutant strain, the true redhead.
James Peterson, the Editor, must love redheads the most. He waxes absolutely rhapsodic about them in his introduction. Any man who appreciates the redhead will instantly understand.
The book consists only of photos dating from 1953 to 1974. While many alluring redheads have appeared in Playboy's pages since then, by limiting the collection to The First Twenty Years, Peterson has no shrift with "bottle jobs," ignores the artificially-enhanced breast, and disdains the racing stripe sorority and the Baby Bare Generation. Thank heavens! The women portrayed herein are real women, some of them wearing Mrs. Cleaver's hairdo perhaps, and some of them more voluptuous and less toned than current tastes allow, but, still in all, untouched by surgically-gloved hands.
Since this is a collection of vintage photographs, they range from 1950s stilted to 1970s freestyle, and it is interesting to see the magazine evolve, and our culture's perceptions of feminine beauty change.
My only criticism is that there just isn't enough of it.
PLAYBOY: REDHEADS is a great "stocking stuffer" book for any man with taste.
Playboy Redheads.......2006-10-25
Whether it's a smoldering auburn, a fire engine red or a sweet strawberry blonde, red hair has captivated red-blooded men for centuries. The rarest and most beguiling of hair colors finally gets its due in this collection of fabulous full color photographs from PLAYBOY from the fifties, sixties and seventies. This sleek volume presents a host of scantily clad beauties each in her favorite element: frolicking poolside, preparing the perfect cocktail, starting a pillow fight. Elegantly designed with the discerning man in mind, REDHEADS captures the eye like only a REDHEAD can.
Playboy: Brunettes.......2006-10-13
this review refers to the Brunettes edition of the 3-book Playboy series:Brunettes,Blondes and Redheads.
the girls in these pages range from the late 50's to the early 70's.
i am of the age that the girls from the mid-60's to early 70's are my favorite so this book was just for me and i should think other men who prefer girls from those days.
Playboy girls are always so pretty. sweet smiles. nothing dirty or raw about them.
the girls from this era had no use for implants which i don't even think were around then.
back then, the girls were all natural. and the brunettes in this book are all natural and beautiful......and of course sexy.
i highly recommend this book. and it's very reasonably priced too.

Not As Good As His Book, "Beautiful".......2006-11-17
This book shows women of all colors and several ethnicities. My personal favorite is the black woman with a long, colorful tattoo of flowers on her back. Many of the photographs, I'm sorry to say, show people smoking--something that is unhealthy, unsexy, and unwise. A number of the photographs show women with men, though there is nothing explicit--just suggestion, and artfully so. Some of the photographs have a blurry, out-of-focus presentation that seems to be widely favored these days. I'd like to see less of that and more straightforward portrayal of women's beauty. After all, that's why I buy books of female nudes.
Not so very intimate.......2006-08-28
Being a female photographer I am very keen on the word "intimate" and its relationship to women posing nude. Nude photography must be intimate and carefully done with as much sensitivity as possible. I find Marc's work to be a tad unnatural and not very intimate. I guess if it was not titled as such I could look at it with a different frame of mind!
Intimate.......2006-04-05
This is one of the worst examples of nude photographic art that I have ever seen. It is so bad that I even couldn't bring mysel to try to resale it so I threw it into the garbage can where it belongs. I could write a whole book about how bad it is but I don't want to waste the time. IT IS TERRIBLE FROM AN ARTIST PROSPECTIVE!!!!!!!
a.m........2005-08-28
The other reviewrs must see something that I don't see. The photos are pretty much average. They lack style and imagination. Spend your money on somethig better.
Two Words: Unabashed perfection.......2005-08-15
I purchased this book for a lover as a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. He'd always expressed how it was my photograph that first drew him to me... I found this book at a store in midtown Mahattan and was became, entralled, as I flipped page after page. I purchased two copies, one for him and one for myself. I've always been a fan of Mr. Baptiste's work and can only hope to be fortunate enough to one day sit before his lens...

Customer Reviews:
Fooled by the cover.......2007-08-05
I have purchased many exellent photo books through Amazon.
But this book is purely trash. The pictures are the kind you will find in german/english
page 3 newspapers.
Alle the pics are early 80's (book first published 1988), and this is clearly a poor
reprint, without much added in 2005.
If you like page 3 girls, ok. But if you are serious about glamour photography, stay away.
Good information... bad image examples!.......2007-08-03
Great information but at the price of some really bad images really keep this book from being a definitive source.
Outdated glamour.......2005-09-12
This book would have been a nice try about 25 years ago. Now it is outdated and oldfashioned. The genre has developed rapidly, and the 'glamour' of the 80's is not so glamorous any more. The pictures look aged, and, then, we have the digital world nowadays - just an information for the writer ;)
Canned , boring and not glamourous .......2005-02-16
First, the look inside on this website is not what is in this book,
but of another edition. The photos are so simplistic and boring.
.........................................................
..... Glamour?.. Def. of Glamour: An air of compelling charm, romance, and excitement, especially when delusively alluring. ........ This book has 95% nude women, many with their legs spread open, or breasts and crotch as the focul point. Photos a
15 year old boy would take and like or for men who see only this aspect of women.
The photos are of poor quality--primarily nude women done like simple snapshots of your wife with an adequate camera. If the women were clothed you would not think much of these photos. Not artistic or glamourous at all. The technical information is weak. A bunch of photos of breasts, butts and open crotch shots.
Pretty Badass.......2004-02-15
My main fascination with photography recently has been lighting, so before reading this book I decided to read "Lighting for Glamour Photography". I almost wish I had read this one first since it covers glamour lighting in great detail, plus a whole lot of other stuff.
I just finished reading it today, so it's still sinking in, but if you plan on taking beautiful pictures of women and taking it seriously, you pretty much have to read this book. It's a career's worth of experience in an easy to read book.
I've got to say though that some of the 80's style pictures are pretty laughable, especially the 80's sunglasses! Ironically, the author mentions how ludicrous things like sunglasses look when they go out of style!
Customer Reviews:
BETTY PAGE.......2006-10-29
A LITTLE TRITE AND MUNDANE BY TODAYS STANDARDS, BUT VERY INFORMATIONAL AND SEXY.
Damn!.......2005-11-05
Wow. I was looking for a coffee table book for the bachlor pad I share with my roommates. Not wanting hardcore porn I thought Betty Page would be tasteful without being pretentious. In fact its perfect. Everyone loves it, and we don't come off as perverts. Oh, yeah. She looks amazing. The photos are stunning. A very few a bondage but mostly tongue in cheek. Highy recommended.
Not bad for BP fans.......2003-05-17
This book is a compilation of original Betty Page photos taken by Bunny Yeager. It's mostly pictures (all b&w), with some biographical sketches included. I have no idea if the text is accurate, but the pictures are pretty decent and certainly does justice to Betty Page's classicically sensual looks. Since these are just pictures of one photographer, you pretty much get only one particular style, and many of the pictures are beach shots. Given Betty Page's status in the American entertainment history, this is a good book to have.
Inaccurate in Details of Bettie's Life -- But Great Photos.......2002-02-14
This book has inaccuracies in its limited text. Bettie Page was not born in Kingsport Tennessee, but some 300 miles away in Nashville, Tennessee. Bettie's eyes were blue, not brown. Do not believe much of the text in this book as it is not endorsed by Bettie and contains much misinformation about her life.
However, if you want some great Bettie photos, this is the book to purchase! I much prefer her lighter fun photos to her Irving Klaw bondage photos.
SOME OF THE BEST BETTIE!.......2002-01-26
I fell in love or lust with Bettie when my hormones arrived about 1955. This book is well worth the price as Bunny's photos of Bettie are among the best. Bettie belonged outdoors! The Klaw photos are fine; it was hard to take a bad picture of Bettie, but she was,to me, the ultimate "beach brunette"! I recognize the problem with the book title, it leads you believe it's some kind of "Bettie expose'", but beyond that it's a great photo-record of some of Bettie's and Bunny's best work. If your a Bettie Page fan old or new, this one is a must!

Scavullo: Photographs 50 Years
ASIN: 0810941953 |
Book Description
Francesco Scavullo is one of the leading image-makers of the last half century-a photographer whose celebrity portraits and glamorous fashion work helped create the look of an entire era. Along the way, he has also shot many nudes-striking, sensuous images that are inimitably Scavullo. Now, for the first time, a group of these nudes are presented in one stunningly designed volume.
Scavullo's subjects include both men and women and range from supermodels (Linda Evangelista, Stephanie Seymour, Jerry Hall) and movie stars (Rene Russo, Sylvia Miles) to dancers, musicians, denizens of the demimonde, and personal friends of the photographer. Affordably priced yet glamorous, this book will be irresistible for anyone attuned to fame, fashion, and the human form.
100 illustrations, 6 x 8 1/2"
FRANCESCO SCAVULLO's images have appeared on movie posters, albums, and the covers of Rolling Stone, LIFE, Time, Town & Country, Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Mademoiselle, Glamour, and Cosmopolitan, among other magazines. His work has been collected in five books, including, most recently, Abrams' Scavullo: Photographs, 50 Years.
DAVID LEDDICK is the author of several books, including The Male Nude and three novels. He lives in Miami Beach and in France.
Customer Reviews:
Glowing Self-Confidence in Idealized Images.......2001-01-06
Before discussing this book, let me mention that most parents will feel this book is not appropriate for children. Although the nudes are modestly and tastefully done, these images would be "R" rated in the movie theater.
Francesco Scavullo is best known for his portraits and fashion photography. He is one of the best known photographers to emerge in those fields around the time that Richard Avedon was becoming popular. His nudes reflect that strength in the sense that his portrait and fashion-style poses work best. In many cases, the poser's nudity is limited to seeing a neckline and shoulders unencumbered by the distraction of a line of clothing. For that reason, many of these images don't really seem like nudes at all.
This book suffers from three serious problems. First, the page size is extremely small. As a result, the photographs are never very large and sometimes are almost microscopic, when combined into a series over two facing pages. You lose a lot of the effect that way. It's like trying to look at fashion and portraits in Reader's Digest size. The editors made up for this by doing a very fine job of selecting photographs that look awfully good for such small reproduction sizes.
Second, there simply are not that many images in the book. To get a fully satisfying flavor of Mr. Scavullo's work would have required at least twice as many. I do not know if this is because there were few outstanding nudes to choose from, or on account of limits imposed by the publisher to keep the price down. If there were not that many high quality nudes available, a better solution would have been to have included fully-clothed shots of similar posings to put the nudes into a context.
Third, the work comes across as much too glossy and healthy looking to be real. Despite the claims in the introduction that Mr. Scavullo's strength in these images was to see the "real" person rather than an idealized person, I found most of the images looking much too shiny and vibrant to be anything other than an idealization. The work clearly is designed to be flattering to the poser, as well. There's just a little too much "appeal" put into the shots, like a Las Vegas neon sign. Where humor was put into the images, I found it usually didn't work for me.
On the positive side, seldom do I see a book where I like as high a percentage of the photographs as I do in this one. So the editors deserve a kudo.
Impressive also was that a nude photograph of Mr. Scavullo appears with his biography. He felt that he should not ask others to do what he had not.
So, I gave the book back one star for these positives, raising it from a two star to a three star rating.
Even if you do not buy the book, I hope you will have an opportunity to see it and form your own opinions of these photographs. This book presents many opportunities for refining your taste in photography.
Here are my favorite images in the order in which they appear:
Jay Johnson, 1969 (head and shoulders version)
Helmut Berger, 1969 (head version)
David Sabedru, 1991
Kate Mulder, 1992 (eyes downward version)
Dana Patrick, 1990
Cindy Crawford, 1990
Linda Evangelista, 1990 (series of head shots from behind)
Claudia Schiffer, 1992
Naomi Campbell, 1989 and 1990
Margaux Hemingway, 1975
Brooke Shields (color), 1991
Wale, 1993 (series)
Sterling St. Jacques, (1978) (See if you can do this pose!)
Sandy Spener and Karla Wolfangle (color), 1971
Hiram Keller, 1969
I suggest an exercise in visual image-making for you to follow on from what you have seen in this book. Begin with a bare table. Then begin adding still life elements until it seems the most "real" to you. As you add the elements, feel free to change the compositions to learn what causes you to see a more "real" scene. Make some notes of what you learn, and take photographs that you can attach to the notes.
Then come back to this book about two weeks later, and see how you would have changed the posings, the make-up, and lighting of these images to have made them more "real" for you.
Seek truth, as well as beauty. Otherwise, you will always be overwhelmed by the sheen of attractiveness . . . and miss the beauty that comes from stark openness.
Just lacking something.......2000-12-29
I admit I'm not a fan of Scavullo, but I like to think that I have an appreciation of the work. There are some tremendous images here, but overall there is just something missing. It's difficult to pinpoint, but there is very little emotion that I felt coming from these shots. I've seen more of his work that actually moved me. None of these had that effect. It's not bad and from a technical standpoint it's okay. However, I was expecting more than that.
SCAVULLO NUDES.......2000-06-13
