Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

The twelve days of Christmas run from December 26 through January 6, the Feast of the Epiphany, the date on which we traditionally recall the Magi's arrival to present gifts to the infant Jesus. For many, the sacred meaning of these days is lost. By Christmas night we are saturated with the holiday hype, overfed with music and food, and maybe quite disappointed that the presents we received have not fulfilled us. Almquist invites readers to go deeper than the tinsel and wrappings to the source of all the good gifts in life love, forgiveness, joy, hope, and so on. These are gifts that, once unwrapped, will last and satisfy our spiritual cravings.

The traditional twelve days of Christmas run from December 26 through January 6 and are known as the 'Feast of the epiphany', the date on which Christian tradition recalls the magi's arrival to present gifts to the infant Jesus. "The Twelve Days Of Christmas: Unwrapping The Gifts" by Curtis Almquist, SSJE (the Superior at the Society of Saint John the Evangelist in Cambridge, Massachusetts) invites the readers to avoid the holiday hype and commercial overkill of the season to reflect on the source of all the good gifts of life - love, forgiveness, joy, hope, peace, compassion, and sharing. These are the gifts of the Christmas that last a lifetime and even an eternity. "The Twelve Days Of Christmas" is strongly recommended to the attention of all Christians, regardless of their denominational affiliation, wanting to 'put Christ back in Christmas'.

5 out of 5 stars Sacred meaning behind the days.......2006-11-21

Reviewed by Joanne Benham for Reader Views (10/06)

While almost everyone in the United States is familiar with the song, "The Twelve Days of Christmas," few people understand the sacred meaning of these days, instead finding themselves mired down in anticipation of Christmas Day itself, losing sight of the bigger picture.

The twelve days of Christmas begin on December 26 and run through January 6, Epiphany Day, when we celebrate the arrival of the Magi to present their gifts to the baby Jesus. This book takes us day-by-day through the twelve days and gives us reasons to celebrate each day. Here's a brief summary of a few days.

Day 1: The gift of God's love for us.

Day 4: The gift of joy. The author illustrates this point with a story of being stuck in an airport with weather delays, when a group of ballroom dancers staged an impromptu show for them. What a wonderful present, to make so many stressed and worried people happy.

Day 8: The gift of humility. We are urged to make space in our lives for others, to respect them for who and what they are. Listen to other people, not only with your ears, but also with your heart.

Day 11: The gift of peace. This is the promise of Christ's peace, given freely to all mankind, as written in the Bible. Jesus says, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you." Accept this peace in your heart and use it to ward off such feeling as envy, hate or rage. Peace in our hearts will change the world.

"The Twelve Days of Christmas: Unwrapping the Gifts" should be read slowly, chapter-by-chapter, on each of the twelve days leading to the Epiphany, trying to put into practice what you have learned.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Christmas gift book.......2006-11-10

How many of us know that the twelve days of Christmas actually run from December 26 through January 6. In our communities, we're so busy with the 'things' of Christmas that by December 26 we're ready to put the celebration to bed for another year.

The Twelve Days of Christmas: Unwrapping the Gifts is an inspirational message of hope that includes the topics of love, revelation, forgiveness, joy, hope, humility, companionship, gratitude, peace and the gift of a name and blessing.

Each reader will have a favorite reading. My favorite comes from the chapter, The Gift of a Name. "Jesus. The name both identifies Jesus--that is, sets him apart from us--yet also gives us access to him." It's a beautiful message.

Armchair Interviews says: The Twelve Days of Christmas is the perfect gift to give to yourself, or to someone you care about. It will be treasured each time it is read.

Robert Sabuda is to pop-up art what the International Grandmaster is to chess, and it isn't for nothing that he's described on the back of this book as a "paper engineer." As the title suggests, this whimsical, old-fashioned, elegant book embodies the Traditional Song of Abundant Giving--each verse of "The 12 Days of Christmas" is illustrated with a different pop-up creation. Some are relatively simple, such as the partridge (made of just two pieces of hinged paper) that opens its wings above some pears. Still, there is something unexpectedly bold about how the bird literally flies out over the top margin of the page. Other pop-ups are more characteristically bravura creations: the "Ten pipers piping" are crafted explicitly as decorative paper cut-outs, but the scissors that cut them are part of the pop-up, too. Perhaps the most complex of the set is "Eleven Ladies Dancing." Interpreted as an old-fashioned music box, the 11 ladies dancing are little ballerinas, and the music box is complete with drawer, back-mirror, and winding key. Sabuda's masterful The 12 Days of Christmas is full of nostalgia for the magic of childhood celebration--kids and adults alike would be happy to receive this book as a holiday gift. (Ages 3 to 103) --Richard Farr

I already had this book myself, but I purchased multiple copies to give as Christmas gifts this year. I think they were very well received. I have all of Sabuda's pop up books and this one fits in nicely. If you like Sabuda's books, you'll love this one. If you don't have any of his books yet, this is a nice one to start with.

5 out of 5 stars Contour line Sings.......2006-12-11

Some books I appreciate simply for the drawing, this is one of those.

I look forward every year in teaching to taking it out of the book box, looking at the cover and recalling why a good contour line links a composition together. I like looking at the things Jan Brett does artistically, clearly right from the get go as this book has been around in my books since about 91.She's had a long run of great art books.

At the holiday time for reasons rather complex and personal to me, I'm always torn about whether to sing seasonal songs or to divert to songs that are "winter wonderland" or simply teach everything or nothing.. and in a 23 year career I decided I could like myself if I started with with Dicken's Christmas Carol, The Muppet's version and Miss Piggy, John Denver and crew singing this Twelve Days of Christmas tune (on CD).From there I could go and figure out the rest of it... That then turned into an expansive signing version i came up with of this silly song.

That turned into making kid books of the song's numerical items (Twelve Days)to work on number order (1st-first, 2nd-second)and number word something we are doing now anyway... all of which is a part of first grade.I used Jan Bret to assist those images. Then we make giant hats for their heads with a pear tree and partridge on top and use this lovely book for the drawing of the partridge (among other directed drawing lessons on the twelve stated days).

It's an epiphany tale worth using with my largely Hispanic group who generally aren't Santa followers and are bridging to celebration of the holiday in Mexico and becoming aware of something-people do things differently. So often also becoming fascinated by holiday traditions worldwide which i like to talk and teach. Obviously this book contains the Brett standards, amongst those are the detailed borders, which reveal secrets and fantasy elements, the Scandinavian "look" and the compositional effects generated from her truly elaborated and worked stylizations. I definitely watch each year to see the children in my room who seem to develop an affinity for Brett's books. On the surface my particular class isn't going to find in the blond and fair represented their own images, there is cognitive dissonances in this in general around Christmas imaging in the culture, but inevitably I see drawn to the work children I teach that love detail, elaboration, theme and variation.Inner world kids. I'm saying it is a book for a child that likes to escape into images. I really have observed for years children who create inner visual worlds, or who have artistic drives towards fanciful kinds of expression, seen them pulled into her work. I have a student this year who has a great representational drawing talent, but greater interest in being defined by his drawing talent and he is very captivated by the artwork in this book.

As a very strange party game I usually take this book and Twelve Days song to the holiday parties, occasionally in my adult life performing the song. It's just one of those, better with the eggnog . And this my favorite representation of it among the 27 I own. A lovely partridge.

This was one of my favorite books growing up. I, like almost all children loved christmas and this book brings back so many memories for me of Christmas' past. I can remember sitting and just marveling at the illustrations of the book. There are so many differnet things going on in each page that I could literally sit for an hour just going through the different scenes. There is of course the famous christmas carol progressing beautifully through the center frame of each page, but along the sides there is the story of a young husband and wife cutting down a christmas tree and having a beautiful 19th century christmas celebration with their two children. And on each page there is also the phrase "Merry Christmas" in (I think) 12 different languages.
I truly loved this book as a child, and even now as an adult (I'm 20). I'm writing this review from memory, if that shows how much of an impact this book had on me.

3 out of 5 stars Nice pictures, but..........2003-04-02

I bought this book because 'The Twelve Days of Christmas' is one of my son's favorite songs. I love the illustrations, they're beautifully done. However, the order of the lines appears to be an older form (and somewhat less standard now). The way I've always heard it sung was 12 drummers drumming, 11 pipers piping, 10 lords a-leaping, 9 ladies dancing... this book has the lords and ladies first, then the drummers and the pipers. I realize that this sounds like a funny gripe, but little kids can get really focused on something being in the 'right' order and since this version is going to differ from the way kids hear it sung, it has the potential to bug them.

      5 out of 5 stars Wonderful illustrations!.......2000-05-25

I enjoyed reading this book and Jan Brett's illustrations were beautiful! I liked learning how to say Merry Christmas in many different languages. This is one of Brett's most colorful and actively illustrated works.

I ordered this book for my seven year old not even realizing it was a flap book. It's a sturdy board book suitable for young children. Very easy reading for a seven year old but my daughter loves anything about Raggedy Anne. The illustrations are sharp and colorful. A great stocking stuffer.

Who is Stealing the Twelve Days of Christmas is a good story for readers comfortable with chapter books. Alex and Yasmeen live on Chickadee Court. Each Christmas, the neighbors decorate their yards with a Twelve Days of Christmas display. This year, someone is stealing the displays and returning them a few days later. Alex's mother is a police investigator trying to solve a set of robberies of collectible mouse figures. Alex and Yasmeen piece together clues from their neighborhood crime and end up helping Alex's mom with the other robberies. The reader learns to be more objective. Look at the facts. Use logic. The reader also learns not to make a judgment based on a person's appearance. A person isn't 'bad' just because they are different.
