Book Description

This is a collection of erotic stories celebrating the naughty delights of peeking — and showing off.
The possibilities are endless. Watching a lover undress from the safety of a window or a hidden hole in the wall. Peeking at the neighbors through a crack in the blinds, when they think nobody’s looking. Going to the local strip club to glimpse a beautiful dancer, or to an orgy where a world of sexual scenarios suddenly appears. Secretly watching others as they expose themselves, or reversing the equation by taking center stage to entertain them, can be some of life’s naughtiest delights, proving that the eye is as much a pathway to pleasure as any part of the body. For the dedicated voyeur, exhibitionist, or anyone who can’t resist peeping when they know they shouldn’t, Caught Looking offers scintillating fantasies by top writers in the genre. These stories — from Stan Kent’s celebration of voyeurism “My Finest Hour,” to Saskia Walker’s sexy peep-show “Room with a View” — take the reader inside a world where people get to show off, watch, and feel the vicarious thrill of sex times two, their erotic power multiplied by the eyes of another.

4 out of 5 stars Very Good Erotica Anthology- as to be expected.......2007-09-11

I really enjoyed this book. Not quite as much as She's on Top or He's on Top because somehow in this book being a voyuer means almost always ending up in a threesome here. I'd like to see maybe a boy next door spying on his neighboor girl in the sequel Hide and Seek. My favorites in this were 'Curtain Call' and 'X-Ray Specs'. I can't wait to check out Hide and Seek also by Rachel Kramer Bussel. Also, forthcoming by her are Sex and Candy, Yes, Ma'am and Yes, Sir.

..not a story in the book failed to arouse.

I don't consider myself necessarily "wired" for voyeurism/exhibitionism but on the advice of a knowledgeable friend I got this primer and learned delightfully that this is one kink all modern people share - perhaps most especially urbanites. 99% of the people we see each day disappear forever the minute we pass them on the street and so the anonymity and the perpetual gaze are somehow baked in.

Breakdown - my fav's: "Sharing The Perfect Cock." Completely unexpected and torrid. A great climax to the book. Again, not a single dud - but these are the ones I go back to in my head. I really loved "The Changing Room" and "The Poet, Dying." "The Key" was *steaming*. Quite a few brought enough blush to my cheeks that I became conscious of being in the company of fellow subway riders.

Hot enough keep the pages turning. Good enough to turn them again.

    Book Description

Mathias, a timorous, ineffectual traveling salesman, returns to the island of his birth after a long absence. Two days later, a thirteen-year-old girl is found drowned and mutilated. With eerie precision, Robbe-Grillet puts us at the scene of the crime and takes us inside Mathias’s mind, artfully enlisting us as detective hot on the trail of a homocidal maniac. A triumphant display of the techniques of the “new novel,” The Voyeur achieves the impossible feat of keeping us utterly engrossed in the mystery of the child’s murder while systematically raising doubts about whether it really occurred.

    Customer Reviews:

    1 out of 5 stars ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.......2007-02-14

This is the worst book I have had the mispleasure of reading. The entire book has no point; moreover, it describes EVERY painfully tedious detail that the main character enounters. Completely irrelevent minutiae is described ad nauseum and in the end the reader is left without any sense of conclusion or satisfaction, instead asking "what the hell just happened?" There is no other way to describe this book other than ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.

Alain Robbe-Grillet, I hope you are reading this: thank you for wasting four hours of my life.

4 out of 5 stars "Such things happen," the proprietress said. .......2006-02-26

The Voyeur (Le Voyeur) was Robbe-Grillet's second published work.

Much like The Erasers, The Voyeur deconstructs a genre story (murder mystery) into a set of descriptions and commonplaces, freeing the crime itself from any psychology or motive. Robbe-Grillet tells us a story without giving us an authoritative ending and without bothering to explain any of the back story at which the text hints.

The language and the flow of text is fascinating, even in translation. The prose flows around the plot, as we see the main character's moments and ideas over and over again-- never sure if something is being revisited or if the beat is just similar to the ones that came before.

This book is often packaged as a "typical" murder mystery, which it is not. The text is often quite demanding and I found myself scrambling to make sure that I had read things correctly. It will need re-reading before I really begin to grasp it, I believe. Luckily, this should not be a painful task.

    4 out of 5 stars a mystery.......2003-07-23

A novel that is meant to be reread after the initial reading. The enjoyment that comes with reading and rereading it will come from solving the puzzle. The novel proposes questions that the curious will want to answer. Who is Mathias? Did he murder Jacqueline? Who is this other girl Violet? What is the difference between fact and fiction in the novel? Unlike ordinary writers of suspense or mystery stories, Robbe-Grillet does not give away the answers. Like another great writer, Vladimir Nabokov, Robbe-Grillet knows his readers will get more joy from discovering the answers for themselves.

The hints, like details begging to be noticed and solved, are sprinkled throughout the novel. Remember the billboard that reads "Monsieur X On The Double Circuit." Mathias can't make sense of it, guessing (wrongly) that it must be about some movie, a coming-attraction, a thriller. Mathias is Monsieur X; the double circuit is the island, the plot.

If others want to offer answers I will check back to read them. I'm not sure of my own conclusions yet. I have some rereading to do first.

    4 out of 5 stars What happened?.......2001-09-24

I am a high school student and I take Cinema and Literature, a college class. I was suppose to read this book, and I did. At the beginning it was going pretty slow...it was too detailed. Then around the middle it started to get good. At the end, it left me empty. I felt like everything I wanted, and was expecting to be answer was not. It is an okay book if you are able to understand what happens at the end, I didn't.

4 out of 5 stars Eyes Like Daggers.......2001-01-09

This novel seems much longer than it actually is. The "action" is dragged out and you begin to find Mathias' obsessive plans to sell his watches tedious, but there is something oddly compelling about it that makes you read on. Lingering behind his figure eight strategies is the death of a disreputable girl and this is what keeps you on the edge of your seat, sick with worry and anxiety. Even though we are following Mathias incredibly closely in all his movements we still don't feel we know him. This is largely because we are made to understand that Mathias doesn't know anything about himself. There is a distinction made between "the salesman" and Mathias. It indicates there is an impersonal aspect to him we will never know. He is constantly being made into an impersonal and stereotypical type of person and the reader is forced to search for details that will connect him with a personal experience. His past is portrayed as an impenetrable muddy mess. "it was useless trying to stir up his memories, he didn't even know what he should be looking for." You gather that the world will in a sense always remain unknowable because of our limited personal perspective. In a sense each person's perception causes harm to what they perceive by limiting it by our own values and labels. This is the murderer and the mystery is how to disassemble our own code of perception. This novel is a fascinating exploration of these ideas and a pleasure to read.

Getting away seems to be just what the doctor ordered when Laura finds herself saddled with a worrisome case of writer's block, but her budget argues otherwise. When her best friend offers a cousin's remote Colorado cabin as a destination, Laura jumps at the chance. Once there, however, the words still aren't flowing, and she is at her wit's end.

To relieve some of her tension, she gives in to a secret fantasy when she discovers the webcam set up in the living room. Pretending someone might be watching, she indulges the long-denied exhibitionist within her, playing to the camera with no real belief that she has an audience. Then the instant messages start. His name is Flyboy and he more than liked what he saw. In fact, he wants more. He pushes her limits, and takes her further than she ever dreamed she would be willing to go. Strangely enough, the experiences serve to release her block, and her story starts to unravel itself, albeit in ways she never expected.

But when Flyboy wants to take things to the next level and actually meet, Laura's world tilts on its axis and her life will never be the same again!

I am not usually drawn to stories with voyeurism and exhibitionism as a theme, but something about Voyeur by Lacey Alexander intrigued me. I have not read Ms. Alexander's work before, but I was captivated from page one! Her characters felt like friends from the very beginning, and I was easily caught up in their lives, reading as fast as I could turn the pages.

Laura Watkins is a character I identified with - a woman who has reached a point in her life where she feels stale, needs a change, but does not know exactly what kind of change. When an opportunity to break her own boundaries arises, she seizes it, even if she harbors a little trepidation along the way.

Flyboy, aka Braden, is - in a word - HOT. Decidedly dominant, yet with a smooth gentleness that seduces far more effectively than any command would. It is no wonder that Laura so easily submits to his sexual whims, even before she has met him. He is the kind of man that recognizes what a woman needs, what her secret desires are, and knows exactly how to make them a reality for her. When Laura's own needs coincide so well with his own, the results are combustible!

The sex in Voyeur was undeniably scorching, but through it all, Alexander weaves a tender yet unconventional romantic tale that is guaranteed to sweep readers off their feet as easily as Braden did Laura!

4 out of 5 stars A Love Story with Heat!!.......2007-07-12

This was a great book. This is a lust to love story. I enjoyed every page and even the secondary characters were of interest (I think Ms. Alexander should write a book just for the two of them!)

The story also had a few scenes of real humor that did not distract from the sensuality. I am looking forward to her next book whatever it is.

5 out of 5 stars A fresh choice in erotic romance!.......2007-06-20

They met via web cam and instant messaging, and soon after are experiencing every fantasy imaginable. Can losing their hearts be far behind? Lacey Alexander's VOYEUR has all of the makings of a memorable erotic romance.

When novelist Laura Watkins is up against a serious case of writer's block, her best friend thoughtfully arranges for her to stay at another friend's mountain retreat, while insisting that sexual release is what Laura truly needs to get her creative juices flowing. Laura decides to let go of her inhibitions during a bout of insomnia one night, at which time she spots a web cam. Certain that the camera isn't turned on; she fantasizes about what it might be like to have the homeowner actually watching her. When an instant messaging conversation the following day with Braden Stone, the owner of the home, reveals that he was indeed watching, and that he wants to see more, Laura's conservative nature threatens to return. When Braden unexpectedly returns to his home and the two share untold fantasies, Laura's writer's block immediately lifts and she's soon producing page after page on her manuscript.

Braden Stone doesn't know when he's been more turned on by a complete stranger. When he's no longer satisfied with continuing a long-distance electronic relationship, he shows up at the house and Laura's fantasies become reality. Spending time with Laura has brought unexpected emotions to the surface for Braden, totally unexpected and not wholly welcome to him. The end of Laura's week at his home arrives and Braden reluctantly allows her to leave without revealing the feelings that he has developed for her.

Lacey Alexander has given readers an intensely sensual book with VOYEUR. Her trademark heat intensifies love scenes into a heated compilation of erotic sweetness. Laura's discovery of the real woman deep inside herself is intriguing and Braden's self-assuredness is just the right touch to keep Laura moving on the path of self-discovery. Laura's novel is a side story of sorts, and it too is very entertaining.

If you like hot, erotic romance with no holds barred, yet sensual action, then this book is for you. Long-time Lacey Alexander readers as well as those who are new to her work will be thrilled with this latest release.
    COURTESY LAURIE/ROMANCE JUNKIES

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant and deeply erotic!.......2007-06-15

Laura Watkins is a mystery writer in need of shedding her inhibitions. Braden Stone is the sexy stranger that wants to watch her do it. Add a webcam and an isolated winter retreat to the mix. You now have the scintillating beginning of VOYEUR.

Though Laura travels to a friend's vacation home as a hopeful cure for writer's block, she finds more than words in Braden Stone. Through use of a webcam, Braden begins to reveal the sensual woman inside Laura. When the two meet in the flesh, the result is almost combustible. Their story practically sizzles on the page.

Lacey Alexander portrays a vividly erotic sexual awakening between Laura and Braden, while never compromising the characters' underlying emotions. VOYEUR is a book well worth taking a look at. I know that I will be eagerly awaiting Miss Alexander's future efforts. If you don't believe it, well, ... watch me!

5 out of 5 stars Don't miss out on this hot and sexy journey!.......2007-05-30

Mystery novelist Laura Watkins is on a serious deadline, yet her Muse is completely M.I.A. When her best friend offers up an isolated retreat, Laura jumps at the chance to get away and concentrate on nothing but her writing. Only thing is, the writing is still not happening. Laura needs some inspiration, and she needs it fast. Maybe if she relaxed a little, let her guard down...She knows the owner has set up a webcam, but surely he wouldn't be watching her, not when she's alone with her most private thoughts...

Corporate raider Braden Stone knows it's rather late but he's just checking in to see if his houseguest made it to his cabin safely. He has no idea that he's about to witness a beautiful woman captured in an intimate act, or that it would be so erotic to watch this conservative writer turn into a sex kitten before his very eyes. Now he can't stop thinking about her and decides the best thing to do is to let her know he's been watching, and see where it leads.

Laura is mortified when she learns Braden had caught her in such a private moment, but soon admits that she likes having his eyes on her; it makes her feel unbelievably sexy. Having him watch her indulge in some of her most personal fantasies is thrilling; she can't seem to get enough of him or the way he makes her feel, and much to her surprise, the excitement of their nightly ritual brings a deeper, richer element to her writing that she's never experienced, and the words are just pouring out of her. But after awhile, acting out her fantasies just doesn't feel right anymore, so she decides that unless he's there with her, she's not going to continue to perform for him.

Braden knows he's not ready to let these hot encounters come to an end, so he flies home, intent on indulging in a little one-on-one action with his lovely houseguest, more than willing to see how far she's willing to go with him. Braden can't remember the last time he's ever been so hot for a woman, and once they meet face-to-face, their passion is explosive, wild, incredible, and he doesn't want their sexual interludes to end. He's drawn to her innate sensuality, loves that she's so turned on by acting out his fantasies and that she trusts him enough to go wherever he wants to take her. But when her week at his cabin comes to an end, will either one of them be able to walk away?

Whew! Turn up the fan, keep a pitcher of ice water nearby, and indulge in one HAWT and SEXY read! I think Lacey Alexander is my favorite erotic romance writer out there right now, and she continues to deliver fabulous stories that tap into the average woman's most tempting fantasies.

One thing that made this book really work for me is how easy I found it to relate to Laura; while she's not a trembling virgin, she's also not a woman comfortable with casual encounters, and her hesitancy to continue down a blatantly sexual path with Braden is completely believable. He does have to work a bit to get her out of her comfort zone, but once she learns to let herself go and trust in him, it's a liberating experience for her, one that frees her mind as well as her body. This becomes evident in her writing, how it takes her down a road she's never ventured on, and the results are amazing. This author is definitely an auto-buy.

"Voyeurs are not hard to please. They want to look upon sex, sex parts, the settings of sex. They like their sex hot, cold, sweet, sour. They want it at night and in broad daylight, mysterious and seedy, sun-dappled and wholesome. Fundamentally, they want their pleasures snatched from the vine like stolen fruit. They want in another words to recapture the dizzying shock of sex in those early days when it was still new and dangerous and scary."

4 out of 5 stars Good content, not so sure about the item I received.......2005-10-03

I first saw a copy of this book at a local book store, but at the time I didn't feel like buying it. I remember the design of the book was really interesting: it forced you to open it in a way that really made you feel like a voyeur; like you were entering inside the book.

A year later I bought it from an outside seller through amazon and I was expecting the same item I saw at the book store. I don't think it was the same item. This one was hardcover (maybe the softcover version is different) and it didn't open or folded in the same "voyeuristic" way as the version I saw previously. So that was a bit of a disappontment.

Now, the content itself is very good. All black and white photos depicting different instances of what could be considered voyeurism: from something as innocent as looking at a woman's legs while she's sitting on a bench at a train station to a peek at the taping of a gay porn video.

Most of the photographs are grainy, sometimes blurry, and have a "spurt of the moment" quality that really makes them more like documentary or journalistic photography--which emphasizes the photographers' voyeurism in a way. This images were not staged for us to observe, but were yanked on the spot in the same way we would at somebody's underwear if it were somehow showing in public without the person knowing about it.

The images are generally smaller than the page size, and they are framed by the black color of the pages. Some people could complain about this, but I think it was a great aesthetic choice, because ths small scale gives them a sense of intimacy that enhances the voyeurism even more. It is almost as though you are peeking though the keyhole of a door to see what's on the other side.

One very important item that needs to be clear: This book is NOT a figure photography book. The cover may mislead you into thinking that--although I do have to say the cover depicts a woman in underwear, not a nude. This is a book about voyeuristic moments captured in many photographs. Some of the photographs do contain nudity and even explicit sex. But most do not. They contain every-day moments that would probably make you turn your sight while walking down the street. Personally I think this is great because it gives the term "voyeurism" a dimension that goes beyond the simplistic "nudity and sex" definition--although there is always a sexual context even when the photos do not depict sex or nudity.

I'm sure many people who were expecting this book to be an artsy version of Penthouse or Hustler were very much let down by this book. But then again, this book is not about naked women or about sex peddled as art. It's about what voyeurism means to different photographers. And the common denominator seems to be this: voyeurism is the act of watching somebody else's privacy: from the girl talking on the phone to the gay couple having sex in the woods.

In other words, this book is about the idea of voyeurism in photography and not about naked people. If you are a photographer, you will probably love it. If you just want an artsy version of Hustler, then this is definitely not for you.

5 out of 5 stars An amazing compilation.......2002-08-13

I really like this work. May be some pictures don't have enough quality but as a whole, this work is amazing. It awakes us the voyeur side of each one, our eye is in every picture.

    1 out of 5 stars Look Away.......2000-12-04

The intention of this book was probably more profound. Its intention to draw any reader (non-voyeur or voyeur) into a world of voyeurism ... by framing each photograph with thick black borders, its intention was to convey as if we were there "secretly" peering and privy to a private and secret moment.

Unfortunately, it fails on several levels. Of course, grainy low-res black and white photographs are an esthetic choice - in this case, the choice certainly does not add any value to this collection - but more importantly, it fails on the level that there's no real point to these photographs ... and no real message other than just a random series of photographs of a similar subject. With no artistic point or message, it's really just a series of grainy black and white, not-very-erotic photographs. All and all, a fairly pointless book.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful and Intense.......2000-07-06

Voyeur is a beautiful book filled with top-notch images that that deliver an intensely sexualized look at the world. Often the images derive their power from the rawness of clandestine photography, but to characterize Voyeur as entirely raw or clandestine would be inaccurate. The book explores a range of perspectives. Sometimes the pictures are nothing more than a gentle glance at a stranger in a compromised position, while other images seem to be made by someone enjoying the wildest night of his life. Some of the pictures are dark and shadowy while still others are sharp and precise. Voyeur is a book that can take you from an innocent glimpse of panties to a run-down backroom and leave you enthralled at any point in-between.

There is another aspect to Voyeur. It's a book that combed art history and mixed up sexy pictures from the most renown photographers with paparazzi photos, anonymous snapshots and images made by up-and-coming photographers. From a design, art historical or purely emotive point of view, Voyeur is an A+.

If you expect something Playboy-esque, for under the bed or on the toilet, you'll probably be disappointed. If you think that good photographs can only be made by following the rules printed on Kodak packaging, you'll probably be disappointed. If you find yourself undressing strangers with your eyes, then this is the book you've been waiting for.

    2 out of 5 stars Disappointed.......2000-06-29

The cover and bindings of this book are great. I love the black pages. The pictures are disappointing. All small black and white pictures that are underexposed. Not worth the Money. There are much better photographs out there. I didn't feel like I was a voyeur. I felt like I was looking at a bunch of poor quality photographs.

5 out of 5 stars Out of the Ordinary!.......2003-04-04

This new male nude photography book by German photographer Thomas Heidemann, is hard to describe. It is a collection of mostly color and some black and white & sepia-toned images showcasing many types of different and attractive young and older men. Heidemann has included athletes, fighters, wrestlers, musclemen, fetish images (body painting, sheer clothing), and full frontal nudes. It is an interesting book for this reason - it covers a wide variety of taste. This is my introduction to this photographer, and I found his unique unconventional style of posing his models very interesting. The book is well-designed, and somewhat larger (11.40 x 8.40 in.) than most that are being published today. I look forward to more from this wonderful photographer!

Jason Green is a twenty-seven-year-old gay man doing sex research for the betterment of society. He teaches and lectures; he's an educator. A new assignment will take him into the depths of New York's seamy side, revealing the often shocking world of sex clubs, bath houses, and the dangers that await you in this dark world. For Jason, only one thing can shock him more, and it's a betrayal he never saw coming.

5 out of 5 stars AN EPIC JOURNEY OF SELF DISCOVERY.......2007-09-28

If you are looking for a comic novel with a lot of sex in it, this one isn't for you. But if you are looking for a substancial novel of sexual morals and concerns, you can't find something better. Yes, there is a lot of comic comeback verbal quips in the book (coming from a secondary ...but essential character), but the main story is one of self discovery. All the characters are fleshed out, the realities of them almost scaringly real. Workers....parents....friends....lovers. You've known people like these at most times in your life.

This novel takes you on a voyage of discovery not only about the main character, but allows insight, perhaps, into your own life. This is not only just a well done, insightful piece of fiction, but is practical and almost inspirational. So many times the endings of novels are forced and unreal. This one was not.

As a published author, with two novels currently in print, I tend to criticize various writings for their shortcomings, however there are none here. This novel takes you on a voyage of discovery, and one that needs to be read. You will appreciate that you did, and if you don't....you will miss out and something new, original and most different. (Actually, the sausage scene alone is worth the price of the book.)

So try it! You'll like it!

3 out of 5 stars Not the best in the world.......2007-09-26

I wasn't expecting to get a rather unusual glimpse into the life of a gay sex researcher. Didn't get a good idea of the title until the very end of the book. It was rather obvious that the subject of the book was the "voyeur," and for a psychologist wannabe, it seems rather sad. Enjoy the book, but not a good read.

3 out of 5 stars A Story of Hateful People..........2007-07-24

The book is well written, and the characters have form and substance. The problem with the book is that I don't like any of the characters. There is not one who can evoke from this reader, a sense of empathy or sympathy. Jason, the primary character is totally unlikable. He is driven by a force that opens him to justifiable accusations of hypocrisy.

His estranged lover, Mark, is completely hateful, and while pathetic, has as far as I'm concerned no redeeming qualities other than his puppy dog like neediness. The females of the plot line are nondescript and left this reader without any sense of liking or disliking them as characters. Ricky, the slut, is the only truly entertaining character in the book. Tragically, he is too real, and perhaps reflects some of the contemporary patterns of behavior displayed by some gay men of that age. Jason's mother is a complete horror. She is a selfish beast intent on alienating her son from his family. And she does a real good job of it too. Jason and his mother are codependent relative to taunting and attempting to humiliate each other and diminish the importance of each in each other's eyes.

Despite all of this negativity, I still found the book readable. I just didn't enjoy the plot line.

    5 out of 5 stars profound theme.......2007-06-01

I just finished the book--it is wonderful! Touched me very deeply in many ways, was HILARIOUS, and really moved me at the end--I can relate to the epiphany experience a lot. This latter experience speaks directly to themes of loss and nostalgia, but most importantly clarifies the overerarching theme--secrecy to prevent the loss of love--for Jason, the protagonist. This profound theme ties together the personal and professional aspects of Jason's life, and did the same for me.

    2 out of 5 stars The Borer.......2007-05-18

Sorry. I bought this booked based upon the testimonial of author Jay Quinn, whose work I admire and enjoy, emblazened across the top of the cover. It was a bit of a disappointment. Jason is a "sex researcher." I place that in quotation marks because it seems that most of his research consists of passing out cards -- not cards collecting data, but cards asking people to call -- in hot beds of gay sex. This is akin to describing the people passing out discount men's suit coupons on Lexington Avenue as "fashion consultants." Anyway, Jason is in a relationship with Mark, but an unhappy one. And, boy, do we get to find out how unhappy. In the first third of the story, we listen to Mark whine on three separate occasions about how much Jason ignores and neglects him. It is essentially the same conversation repeated thrice. Then, in a plot development that is totally predictable five pages out, we get an on-line version of the "Pina Colada Song." Following that, Mark makes his dramatic announcement, which is, again, totally predictable. Meanwhile, Jason is so "professional" in his work that he writes himself up for "protocol violations" but inexplicably detains a teacher from starting her class on time so that he can dump his pathetic story on her while wracked with sobs. In fact, sobbing occupies about ten consecutive pages. In the end, Jason tosses away, stupidly, everything he has purported to stand for for 305 pages. The author, Michael Luongo, credits his editor; instead he should fire him. Luongo apparently writes non-fiction travel stories as his day job. Perhaps he should stick to factual data, as interesting and credible fiction appears to be beyond his capabilities.

4 out of 5 stars Very nice to look at.........2001-02-07

This book is an awesome book and the men are absolutely beautiful, but I expected a little more thats why I didn't give it a full five stars, But the black and white make it very exotic...

5 out of 5 stars "We Are the Lucky Voyeurs".......2001-02-06

This book is full of beautiful male models in...semi-nude &nude poses in theatrical settings and other situations. Even Bruce & Seth Hall, two blonde beautiful male twins, are presented here in sexy bikini's and mesh stockings. Quite a sight. Not only are there beautiful male models, but many celebrities & stars, such as Joe Dallesandro from Midnight Cowboy; Hollywood porn director-drag queen Chi Chi LaRue on a porno set; and the legendary Jimmy James as Marilyn Monroe, among others.

Yes there's a little bit of Hollywood represented here but so much more. What is amazing with Michael's photography is his unique imagination in posing his models in such a different way than other photographers do. His photographs are always fascinating but never boring or static. He began his career in the 70's and today is one of the entertainment industry's most renowned photographers, having photographed all the top stars.

I really loved this book and it will share a special place in my collection. It was beautifully designed by Kevin Scott Hees. A very erotic and different collection of photographs. Perhaps there will be a Volume 2? We can hope.

(For mature audiences.) Hideo Yamamoto's Voyeur, part of Viz Communications' gritty Pulp Graphic Novel series, enters the world of voyeurism at several levels. On the surface, this adult manga is a tale of simple perversion, about a man who dons night goggles to peer into the intimate moments of other peoples' lives. But as the book unfolds, Yamamoto exposes the depth of his suggestive title. The protagonist, Ko Higaonna, despises the young peeping Tom who keeps showing up in his life. But as Ko becomes concerned that his girlfriend, Satomi Shiraishi, is deceiving him about where she has been spending her evenings (she insists that she is studying for her TOEFL exam), he begins to indulge in a bit of voyeurism of his own. Like the hero of Hitchcock's Rear Window, Ko can't help but look into Satomi's life. The mystery behind her supposed virginal innocence beckons him to gaze into her windows and follow her through the streets. As his career as a spy unfolds, Ko is drawn to the voyeur who he at first rejected. The voyeur has refined observation to an art, and to Ko he reveals tiny clues--such as bruises on Satomi that suggest an amorous encounter--that slowly erode Ko's trust in his lover. When Ko abruptly learns the truth of Satomi's secret life, he must confront the charade of his own life--his politeness and servility in the face of hypocrisy. Together with his newfound conspirator, he leaves the path of material success and polite society to begin a career as a professional voyeur--a detective of sorts--who works to protect the unsuspecting from the voyeuristic predators he now sees everywhere. Despite this somewhat formula-driven ending (which is clearly a setup for a series about Ko's detective career), Yamamoto has crafted a superior manga that braves the waters of sexual deviance only to interrogate the reality of urban life beneath the surfaces that so tantalizes the stereotypical voyeur. --Patrick O'Kelley

    Book Description

Ko Higaonna is a happy college student, a trusting young man with an alluring girlfriend, Satomi. But her busy schedule leaves little time for their relationship, and thus few opportunities for Ko to explore his sensual desires. When Ko discovers that a voyeur is spying on them, he embarks on a quest to uncover what exactly Satomi is doing in her spare time - and finds that he must also confront his own repressed longings.

5 out of 5 stars This Is Not Your Father's Comic Book, Or Is It?.......1999-11-05

I haven't even finished this book and I've given it five stars. How can I explain that a book that looks like a comic, suggests porngraphic thoughts and still keeps your interested in...yes!...there is a story behind all this.

But what most amazed me was the drawings and how I felt after just a few dozen pages that I wasn't even really reading. It was like I was in the story. Every page had it's share of 'wordless graphical' thoughts.

I don't think I'll ever experience a read again quite like my first manga!

    4 out of 5 stars Slick, Dramatic.......1999-09-26

I bought this on a lark when I saw the Amazon had it in their recommended slot. Yamamotos' slick artwork and great characterization drew me in. The stories are paced well and it was a pleasant read. Voyeur is culled from "adult" manga in Japan, so there's just the right amount of sleaze mixed in with the action. It's not gratuitous nudity and sexual content like the XXX comics that we have here. A refreshing change from the usual stuff that we see in manga. A plausible fun read with sympathetic, realistic characters. Now, where did I put my night vision goggles? followed by a sequel in Japan. "Voyuers Inc." is about two different characters and is by a different artist.

“It was my distinct pleasure to read Dennis James Bartel's collection. They are stories in the classic manner, scale models of a world that is both peculiarly Bartel's and a dead ringer for our own, replete with the flawed, pathetic, lost and yearning characters, at once drowning and exulting in life's ironies, who populate the tales of the modern masters of the form. His style has the sunny, effortless air of true literary art, casting sharp and profound shadows.” Michael Chabon, winner, Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, 2001
