Book Description
On one side, Dita Von Teese shares the beauty of the burlesque world, with bubblegum dreams and show tunes to strip to. Flip over for fantasies in fetish with dramatic costumes and the allure of submission.
Burlesque and the Art of the Teese
"I advocate glamour. Every day. Every minute."
I'm a good dancer and a nice girl, but I'm a great showgirl. I sell, in a word, magic. Burlesque is a world of illusion and dreams and of course, the striptease. Whether I am bathing in my martini glass, riding my sparkling carousel horse, or emerging from my giant gold powder compact, I live out my most glamorous fantasies by bringing nostalgic imagery to life.
Let me show you my world of gorgeous pin-ups, tantalizing stripteases, and femmes fatales. I'll give you a glimpse into my life, but a lady never reveals all.
Fetish and the Art of the Teese
You may have come for the fetish. Or you may just be sneaking a peek at this mysterious and peculiar other side. No matter what you've come for, there is something for you to indulge in.
My world of fetish may not be the one that you would expect. As a burlesque performer, I entice my audience, bringing their minds closer and closer to sex and then -- as good temptress must -- snatching it away. As a fetish star, I apply the same techniques. . . .
An opera-length kid leather glove, a strict wasp waist, an impossibly high patent leather heel, a severely painted red lip. . . . Come with me into my world of decadent fetishism.

Erotica in good taste.......2007-08-24
Dita Von Teese is truly an American Aphrodite in every way. This is a hard cover coffee table book. Dita models the burlesque fashions of nearly every decade of 1900's and provides interesting commentary regarding the fashion. Other than a butt in profile, the pictures are erotic simply because Dita is a goddess.
Lovely photos, good history.......2007-08-07
I bought this book for the information on burlesque and it didn't disappoint. Lovely photos of Dita, good information on 20th century Burlesque and some tips thrown in for good measure. I would have liked a little more history on the stars of Burlesque but otherwise, this book is exactly as I hoped. Even the "fetish" side of the book is interesting, even if it isn't your cup of tea. Recommended.
100% satisfied.......2007-07-09
Dita Von Teese is a goddess, a must have for anybody who appreciates beautiful women in classy clothes.
Burlesque and the Art of the Teese/Fetish and the Art of the Teese.......2007-06-13
Content: 3 stars, some awseome photos, but alot of 'filler' images. Layout: 2 stars, general book layout is not an excellant design and lacks an edge that would suit the subject matter and artist. Doesn't have a special or unique design layout, binding or printing that is asscoiated with hardcover editions. This is maybe the reason for the low price.
Overall: 3 stars.
Great Book.......2007-06-11
This book was a gift to me from my husband and what a great gift it was! It was very cute with a very good history lesson on the history of burlesque. After I was finished reading it I went out and bought my first corsett! It doesn't talk alot about the history of Dita however and for that I am sorry. She is an amazing artist and I would have loved to have learned more about her. I would recommend this book for those interested in Dita or burlesque.

Book Description
Presented in an identical format to Phaidon's previous Fruits, published in 2001, Fresh Fruits is a collection of Tokyo teenage street fashion portraits selected from Japan's premier street fanzine of the same title. Published every month by Shoichi Aoki, who is also the sole photographer for the magazine, Fruits was established in 1994 as a project to document the growing explosion in street fashion within the suburbs of Tokyo. Over the last decade the magazine has grown to cult status and is now avidly followed by thousands of Japanese teenagers who also use the magazine as an opportunity to check out the latest styles and trends. The average age of those kids featured in the magazine is between 12 and 18 years old. Most of the clothes that they wear are a combination of high fashion - Vivienne Westwood is a keen favourite - and homemade ensembles which when combined together create a novel if not hysterical combination. This latest publication of the best of Fruits will follow the original Phaidon publication by including translations of the various Japanese captions that were originally attached to the photographs that list the name, age and clothing of each person photographed.

happy about the book.......2007-10-02
i saw that book when i was in Germany and wanted it ever since. Now i finally have it and i'm very happy about it. I like all the series of the Phaidon books and already have Fruits. The idea of this book is really great and i hope Phaidon will have some more books like this in the future!
Great coffeetable book!.......2007-06-07
Though it's pretty much the same as the previous Fruits book, I guess it's best if you keep it the way it is.
It's a great quality book, completely filled with photos which are not only unique and beautiful, but also makes you question yourself about what is fashion, and what is acceptable or not on everyday life clothing.
There should be more places around the world like Harajuku.
Wow, amazing!.......2007-03-27
Great book, made my girlfriend quite happy. She is very into Japanese street fashion and this book just captivated her, she looked through it about 20 times the day i gave it to her. I enjoyed it too, but it was mainly for her.
Supaa kawaii.......2007-01-19
Manga, anime, and Tokyo street fashion have a devoted following here in the States, and fans of the above should find this volume entertaining/fascinating. The ensembles displayed in Aoki's book range from super cute (supaa-kawaii) to imaginative to outrageous. Some of the teenagers look almost intimidating, but the funny thing is that if you get lost in Tokyo (easy enough to do), you can walk up to one of these apparitions and ask for directions. In almost every case, they will probably bow, smile, and respond in the most polite and respectful manner imaginable.
Fabulous Freaks.......2006-09-30
Another amazing collection of eye candy fashion. I love the full page color photos and the brief descriptions. It is interesting to see how a sub-culture of fashion in itself fractures off into seperate catagories. Like L.O.L.A., european punk, goth, hippie, couture, et cetera. All amazingly creative free spirits. This is a great buy if you like cultures and community, fashion design, or interesting coffee table conversation starters. I love the book "fruits" as well, they are like twins, something to be kept together. I would love to see what changes in style another ten years has brought to Japan. Hopefully I'll run accross that book next. The only irksome bit was the bubblegum text color. It was hard to read at times. And my eyes aren't too bad.
Book Description
My columns offer a friendly and intimate portrait of the Dominant/submissive lifestyle from someone on the inside. They focus on my expiences - from coming out, to dating, to particular interests such as sadism.
Customer Reviews:
a personal journal more than a book.......2007-08-14
I got this hopeing it would give me some insight into the spritual side of bdsm, not the case with this book. Basically it is a journal of her own experiences, and not even her personal spiritual insight, which I am sure has interest to some but not what I thought it was going to be.
Disappointing.......2007-08-12
A series of reprinted columns that make occasional titilating reading but more often cursory discussion of topics and disjointed reading. The title was the best part of this book.
very good book.......2007-02-09
It was a very good book. I will look for more from this author.
Get to know someone kinky.......2003-09-16
This is a collection of 54 columns written by Sensuous Sadie. The vast majority of these are very personal, dealing with her kink, her experiences, and her feelings. Only a few are really about topics of general information and even these are based on her experiences. Overall if you know who Sadie is and have enjoyed her online columns this book is a good way to catch up. If you aren't familiar with her, you'll get to be as you read. I really wish the entire book were organized chronologically instead of by subject because I think that would make our journey into her mind more powerful.

Customer Reviews:
Very nice!.......2007-09-10
The size of the book is VERY small. I had no clue it was so tiny but the content inside looks really good!
Excellent small coffee table book.......2007-03-04
This is a small book, and is titled Fetish 101 for two reasons. 1) It has 101 fetishes in it. 202 pages, one page each for the picture and the description. 2) It's a very basic and very introductory book about fetishes.
The thing that I don't like about fetish books is that some of them are gross. This one is tasteful, and the the pictures are well done. There is some nudity, but not a lot. Most of the pictures in the book look like the one on the cover.
An example fetish is #23: Schoolgirls
"We're not talking about real schoolgirls, of course! This is about roleplaying, adults behaving like schoolgirls. The outfits are skimpy skirts, knee-length stockings, and black patent leather shoes. Schoolgirls pretend to be shy, but they know exactly how to seduce the teacher."
That's a typical entry. Not too racy, but it's a cool book to look through and say, "I would like that," or "I wouldn't like that."
Dull look at the most vanilla of fetishes.......2006-12-14
This book goes nowhere, and is of extremely small size. The images are all tired old fetish pictures you would expect to see as cutting edge fashion in a Sunday Magazine rather than anything in a scene publication. It just covers the tired old fetish standards, rubber, leather, feet, that sort of thing, each with a single photo and an inane paragraph of text.
Book Description
Most fetishists have healthy, happy sex lives with their lovers in the style of sex that their lovers prefer and must partition off their sexual fetishes from their relationships. This can be isolating, but no one needs to feel lonely in a relationship, or feel confused about getting their needs met. This guide is for understanding and making the most of your--or your lover's--fetish, and learning that normal sex is exactly the kind of sex you enjoy.
Customer Reviews:
Very sexy, very cool, and really informative! .......2006-11-16
I found this book to be a thoroughly enjoyable and entertaining piece of reading. I have found that since I began working in the industry, I sometimes find myself somewhat overly informed on topics that deal with kink, fetishism, BDSM, and so on. I don't mind being knowledgeable at all. There was a time when reading a book on such a topic was very much like looking at pictures on the same topic. I was more than aroused. I was intrigued by the very idea that these activities took place. I couldn't wait to grow up and begin my exploration of the world where fantasies became realities, and all these curiously wonderful things truly existed. I now live in that world, and I am extremely grateful and happy that I do. While reading books on such topics can no longer serve the function they did when I was a much younger person, they serve a new function. Not only am I continuously entertained when I read a well written sex book, a book like that helps to keep my own ideas fresh, and helps me to guard against getting too "routine" in the constant expression of my own sexual appetite.
I believe that it is also worth mentioning the purpose a well written sex book serves in the online computer era. I love the online sex world, obviously since I'm here at this very moment. The wealth of information offered today is amazing. The convenience and accessibility we enjoy in the modern age is a gift. As much as I love what the internet has done for my sexual well being, there will never be a substitute for a good book.
I realize that writing a sex book full of information that could fill sex industry professionals with shock and awe would find a very limited audience. People starting their own journey of sexual adventure and self discovery need a good map. Sometimes the computer is too over loaded. It's not the best place to start.
That being said... I believe that "Violet Blue's Fetish Sex: An Erotic Guide for Couples" is a terrific starting place to begin such a journey. It is enlightening and humorous, while remaining very informative. It is also incredibly well written. As the title suggests, it is written for couples. As a romatic resource I can see how valuable this book would be for a variety of relationships. If a relationship needed a boost of sexual energy, this would serve as excellent material in sending the relationship in that direction. If the couple in question already enjoyed a healthy sexual relationship, this book could only make it healthier. It is a terrific teaching tool as well.
The information contained in "Fetish Sex" is well organized and it contains detailed descriptions and definitions. The writing is informative, yet casual and friendly. When I read Violet Blue's work, I feel as if I am learning a great deal, while enjoying a relaxed conversation about many of my very favorite topics. Another fantastic virtue of this book is that it arouses such intense curiosity about so many ideas. Your online adventures in fetish exploration will be well directed if you prepare yourself ahead of time by reading the work of Violet Blue. For anybody just beginning their own adventure of self discovery and sexual exploration, this is really one of the best places to start. Couples will love it. I would recommend it to anyone interested in fetish sex, couples, singles, experts, and beginners. It's a great book, on a great topic.

Customer Reviews:
Tame stories, poorly edited.......2007-08-22
I thought these stories were pretty tame. Few appealed to me at all. But each of us have our own tastes.
What bothered me more was how poorly edited this book was. Incorrect words riddled the stories. Line breaks and page breaks were misplaced. Authors' names were spelled differently throughout the book.
If there's one thing that shouldn't be occupying my mind the whole time I'm reading a book of erotica, it's editing. Editing isn't sexy. And if editing is what I'm thinking about, I can only conclude that the book must not be very sexy either.
An excellent mix!.......2006-09-18
Enthusiasts of bondage and bdsm, as well as anyone with hormones and curiosity, will surely find much to enjoy in this fine collection of diverse erotica. Gay, lesbian, and bi, it's all in there...a variety of creative and finely crafted takes on the psycho-sensual pleasures of tying and being tied up. I definitely got hot and bothered by more than one tale in this steamy delight! :)
bring out, rekindle and act upon your bondage fetish.......2006-07-13
with this book, secret slaves erotic stories of bondage, once you finish reading it, if you are not hot, horny and ready to be tied up or tie someone up, your libdo should be checked. this book is hot, Hot, HOT.
two of my favorite stories are shackeled, it's a bittersweet story that touches on the emotional aspect of closure and the other, stolen treasures, is of a love that is pushed to the limits by curiosity.
whether you are a top or a bottom you will find the stories excititng and enthralling. so what are you waiting for? buy this book now and get ready for some hot and heavy bondage.
Book Description
Across much of the postcolonial world, Christianity has often become inseparable from ideas and practices linking the concept of modernity to that of human emancipation. To explore these links, Webb Keane undertakes a rich ethnographic study of the century-long encounter, from the colonial Dutch East Indies to post-independence Indonesia, among Calvinist missionaries, their converts, and those who resist conversion. Keane's analysis of their struggles over such things as prayers, offerings, and the value of money challenges familiar notions about agency. Through its exploration of language, materiality, and morality, this book illuminates a wide range of debates in social and cultural theory. It demonstrates the crucial place of Christianity in semiotic ideologies of modernity and sheds new light on the importance of religion in colonial and postcolonial histories.

Customer Reviews:
Fetish has wormed its way into American Mainstream Culture........2007-08-08
Most Americans haven't the faintest idea of how deeply fetishes have wormed their way into the popular culture. Leave it to a Brit to point out the obvious to those of us living in their former American Colony. After a brief definition of just what constitutes the sub-culture of "Fetishism," Scott provides a historical glimpse of various fetishes especially those practiced within the Christian Church almost since it's birth.
In addition to the peculiar practices of some of the Saints, and in other ancient cultures, the author then examines Feudal Japan and the birth of Japanese Rope Art and bondage fetishes. From Japan the author visits the France of Louis XV and then switches to the world of the Marquis de Sade. He slowly works through modern history including the Weimar Republic to its portrayal in the movie "Cabaret." Other films with a strong "fetish twist" included "After Hours," "Alien," "Barbarella," "Belle de Jour," "Blue Velvet," "Cat People," "The Matrix," and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl." etc., etc.
Masked Balls, T.E Lawrence, Biker Chic, Corsets, Man Ray, Betty Page, Liz Hurley, Angelina Jolie, Emma Peel, Madonna, Goths, Robert Mapplethorp, whips, flogging, humiliation, unusual and horrible public punishments of criminals, leather, latex rubber, stockings, garter belts and extremely high-heeled boots, spanking, and S&M are only a few of the topics discussed by the author. It's amazing how the subliminal messages of various fetishes have slipped into main street fashions, music, literature, television and the cinema. As some of the obvious examples of the influence of various fetishes were pointed out and documented by the author, this reader felt like he was undergoing an epiphany. "Of course, it's so logical and obvious, how could I have missed it," was my usual reaction to what I was reading. I definitely grew up in a very sheltered home environment.
This brief review can't begin to convey all the fetish facts revealed by this book. Once a reader has studied it, the whole media world appears entirely different. My biggest criticism of this book was the fact that it was printed in such a small format size (less than 4" by 6") that it was difficult to read, especially since the print was a shade or two light for the small type used for the text. That was probably because darker print would have shown through the book's cheap paper stock. Despite the ultra-economic (Cheap Charlie) production of the book itself, once a person has read this tome, the everyday news of the world will take on a whole new meaning. Humanity is very, very kinky and it often doesn't even realize it.
Book Description
The American King of Fetishism
As a teenager, New York photographer Eric Kroll was excited by women in bondage or high heels à la Betty Page - and he still is. His pictures of models in leather and rubber, bound and gagged, have made his name one of the classics in the bondage world.
Man Ray, Weegee and Eric Stanton were his avowed idols. The American King of Fetishism opens the door on a cabinet of bizarre lust and fantasy, spiced with an unfailing and unmistakable irony.
Customer Reviews:
Erotic?.......2005-03-24
Sometimes interesting, sometimes not. Click the camera a few times your bound to come out with something good. Slightly tepid.
Gorgeous!.......2004-05-27
Gorgeous, HOT, sexy, disturbing, sexy, HOT, wonderful, enligtening, educational. Just great. Totally sexy, hot, and all that stuff. WILD fetish fun! Yay!!!
this book change my life.......2003-06-23
i got it by a complete eccident, a girl left it in the locker after quiting school and i got to have that locker after she left. who knows that somone in the world shared the same fantasies i had and could manifest them into reality in such a versetile humerous and interesting way?! my knowladge of erotic photgraphy to that point was mostly my dad's playboys collection, but this was nothing of the sort.
eric kroll's a profational photographer and though he choose to deal with the issues of sex, fetish and control, the mages themselfs are done proffetionaly with much care to detales scenery and so on, which is very importent to me when creating an erotic scene. he's very versatile and i can't say even now after years of going through those photos what he's spasifcly into, it seems that he like just about anything and doesn't focuse on either one type of fantasy \ body part or certion type of model, however somthing about the lighting, styling and pose can still be recognised as his own personal style.
thechen's a quality art books publisher, so printing, design and binding are very good.
i've had this book for over 7 years and it's still interesting and stimulation to look at.
Eric Kroll does it again, and again and again........2003-02-17
One of the few well known American fetish photographers has put out a book of splendor. The imagery is wonderful and the women are masterfully depicted in the fetishs and their beauty. Certainly a pleasure to veiw and to own.
One of fetish photography's greatest influences!.......2002-03-25
Fetish Girls is Eric Kroll's blazing, 200-page tribute to all the photographers, models, and fetishists that have inspired him through his life: Nam Paik, Weegee, Man Ray, Elmer Batters, Betty Page, Bunny Yeager, Eric Stanton, John Willie, Irving and Paula Klaw, Bill Ward, and Marcel Duchamp, just to name a few.
A glorious tribute to his predecessors it may be, it is nonetheless a delicious exposé of the incredibly creative work that he himself has created over the years. Beautiful, succulent beauties are flaunted throughout, adorned in an endless variety of kinky clothing and erotic toys. And they are bound, they are knotted-up, they are bent over, spread-eagled, spanked, shaved, and suckled. They pose powerfully as dominators; innocuously as sexual furniture; and provocatively as they shove their crotches in our face.
Through it all, Eric Kroll's talent as a photographer and portraitist stands paramount. And we are left with what might be his finest publication to date and a book that is unquestionably a MUST HAVE for any serious collector.
