Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit's end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.

How fast the time goes with Crazy Pups.......2007-10-03
I just finished Marley & Me.
The Best read I have had in a long time. It was like watching a GREAT movie, only better. I have loved and lost 1 best friend recently and the other best friend is now over 10 years....this book makes you think...remember.... and thank the heavens for allowing them to be here with us for their period of time reminding us that we are "only Human".
I loved the book and have 6 people in line to borrow it now that I am finished.
If you like to laugh, love dogs and appreciate terrific writing, buy or borrow this book!

A very Entertaining book, great read. This is a must book for all those that have a dog as a pet or all dog lovers, especially those of us that have had labs in our life. A laugh out loud cry out loud story.
Light, easy reading.......2007-09-18
Open this book with the expectation of a light, easy read and you won't be disappointed. It rarely gets that deep, and why should it? The story is about a mischievous dog, afterall. Favorite scenes include the description of Marley's father: a half-demented, highly energized stud emerging from the forest covered in mud and burrs, his eyes looking like he just saw a ghost- and he liked what he saw! Another favorite scene involves the dog's response to the family's miscarriage. Animals do sense our grief on a very primal level, and the scene with Marley comforting the author's wife was moving.
This 3-star rating takes into the account the slight tedium of the book- scene after scene involvng a bad dog. It gets a little tiresome after a while. No plot, no challenging themes- just a bad dog. Yawn.
On a positive note: This is the age of yuppie dog control. The Dog Whisperer tells us that we must have total command of our canine subordinates. While the Dog Whisperer may be right, he is not always that fun. In contrast, Marley and Me is a fun story. I recommend it to all dog lovers like me, and all dogs like my bestfriend Sophie, who pees on the neighbors flowers and jumps the fence with regularity.

This Book Flushed out Memories of the Love of My Lab.......2006-02-07
I had this book for sometime, it was a gift. I didn't really know what a great book I had until I actually read it. Looking at the pictures was great, until I lost my own Chocolate Lab, "Roxie". The memories she and I made, were flushed out as I read the happiness of other inspired Lab Lovers. I though no one else can love a dog as much as I loved mine. There are so many people blessed with Labs that don't realize what a gift a Lab is. They are the best all around dog, that I fell in love with at the age of 18 or so. Now 33 I'm searching for another Lab puppy to love again. This book allowed me to see the other stories, people shared and flushed stories from my own heart that had been forgotten as time has a way of covering the memories that are made in the life of a Lab, if only for a short while I have the memories of my Lab and others, uncovered.
Another Wonderful Book On The Wonders Of Labs!.......2004-01-09
Here is another attractive entry by naturalist author Todd Berger, one that takes a truly loving look at America's singular and by far most popular wonder dog, the Labrador Retriever. As Berger points out so well, there are few other animals who draw such love from humans as a dog, and surely the Lab is the most loveable of the breeds. They are by reputation excellent working dogs, both as field dogs and as guide dogs for the disabled. This is a story book. The stories narrated in the book show the really nice characteristics of this excellent dogs. The photographs are beautiful. It's a nice tribute to the Labrador. Only downside is that all, and I do mean all, the stories are hunting stories. I believe these dogs have much more to say in other aspects of life. For all of you who hunt with a Lab, you will really love this book. Those of you who don't hunt but are really fond to this breed, you will like it very much, myself included. For those of you looking for information on the breed, not recomended.

Tug of Love.......2002-12-17
When a lab turns up and is claimed by two people, and a famous mutt stays at King Street Kennels the Parkers have trouble over their heads. This wonderful story will keep you on the edge of your seat as Neil tries to find out who Jason, aka Junior, really belongs to. The story is very exciting: Junior's old owners take him back when he runs off at a local dog show, and move away the next day. But a lab breeder, who rightfully own the dog, wants him back. Over all it was a good book, but I didn't like the ending that much. Even though Jason belonged to Westons, they got rid of him and he found a new home that would be more suitable. Any way, the breeder had papers and it was officially his dog. I thought their plan to "share" Jason was very unrealistic. It's also not fair to the dog to be torn between two families.

Jason gets loose at a dog show. king street kennles reunites jason to his owners the weston family. the weston family move the next day. mr.scott then turns up and say's jason's HIS dog and his name is juinor. can neil and emily find out who jason's (or juinor's) real owners are???

I LOVED Tug of Love! It was the best Puppy Patrol book. Jason (or Junoir) is a cute, smiley, sunny yellow Labrador. He is starting to become big in shows and will soon be bred at a Labrador Breeding Center. But then, when everything is just right, Jason is stolen... And then, appears at King Street Kennels. Will he ever get back to his RIGHTFUL owner? You HAVE to read it!

The text is good & well researched, but only if you are looking for an indepth history of the breed ... it's a book that requires careful reading to bring out the best ...

As far as the photography goes, the book doesn't quite make the grade, there are several coffee tables books on the market that contain much better photographs of Labradors ...

The superb color photos of Labs led me to choose this book as a gift for a fellow Lab-lover. But I found I could not part with it bacause the text is equally captivating and one I want to refer to again and again. The author's very careful research and citations of source material befits the scientist he is; his delightful writing style entices the reader to continue reading to delve deeper into this historic puzzle. Hutchinson's conclusion is like the surprise ending of a mystery story - perfectly reasonable in light of the evidence and explanations presented, but still unexpected, and a fascinatingly different extension on the usual story. Buy two copies - one to give, one to keep!

Funny and Diverting Book About Labrador Retrievers.......2003-03-20
For those of us who share their lives with God's most nearly perfect earthly creation, i.e., Labrador Retrievers, a book like this is sure to elicit a smile of recognition and an acute sense of recollection. For contained within these pages are a plethora of familiar dog photos, snapshots of moments cpatured forever both on film and in our hearts. I have enjoyed the company of Labradors for over two decades now, and must admit that very often it seems my life centers around my relationship to the four dogs who share my house and my life.
So, for someone like me, this humorous little book from Ed Camelli and Mike Singer is the perfect gift, its bevy of color photos and amusing text making it a great picture book for coffee table or kitchen counter. Herein Labs are caught in the midst of everyday activities--in mid-air with Frisbees, in pursuit of thrown balls, smooching faces, and engaging in their beloved water sports. I once heard a Labrador described (accurately) as a creature who would stray five miles out of its way just to jump with boundless enthusiasm into an overgrown mud puddle. Labs simply adore water, and I have even been surprised in the shower by Labrador puppies who could resist the call of the wet and wild!
Camelli's photos seem to consistently catch the Labs at key moments whether they be rolling in the grass or cuddling with a playful kitten. Likewise, Singer's text threads a consistent amsuing yet memorable message through the pages, one that amplifies and reinforces the photos. Indeed, what does one say in words to describe the heady experience portrayed in a photo of a Lab in virtual ecstasy while getting his ears, which he describes as a "Lab loving a Vulcan mind-meld." This is a lovely little book, and one any dog lover will truly enjoy!

This book has wonderful pictures and captions! Any dog lover will enjoy it whether they have a particular interest in labs or not. My daughter, 18 months, also loves looking at it herself. This would be a great gift or coffee table book.

This book is great for all dog lovers-not just Lab lovers. The photos are fun and capture what it is about labs that we all love. My nephew loves this book too because it's easy to read and he gets a kick out of the pictures.
