Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

My almost [...]is addicted to doggies - every book we read is either about dogs or has dogs in it - this is one of both of our favorites, we read it every night sometimes several times. The rhythms in the text makes it fun to read (and memorize if your not a reader yet).

5 out of 5 stars THIS ONE APPEALS TO KIDS AND CERTAINLY APPEALS TO THE KID IN ME........2007-05-06

This is a great beginning reader and a wonderful book to use during story time for the little ones. It is a story of a young lad and his dog Tinka. The rhymes are simple and quite appropriate to the wonderful illustrations. I have had many dogs in my life, all had a bit of Tinka in them. My current dog, Brodie, could be Tinka's sister in that she tends to get into the same troubles Tinka has a propensity for. I suppose there is a bit of little boy in me, thank goodness, and I can certainy relate to this one and the relationship between the kid in the story and Tinka the dog. The story is well written, simple verse and the illustrtions are quite eye catching. This is a wonderful story time book for the little ones. Recommend this one highly.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic book...a must read!!!.......2006-08-17

I received this book from the author Deborah Heiligman (who happens to be a wonderful writer!) for my 18 month old son. He absolutely loves it and it is his favourite book. He paricularly likes the part where tinka is being washed with tomato juice (you'll see!). My son brings me the book and says "dub"!! Its a real fun read for the little ones, and the parents as well (as someone who has read this book out loud at least 2 times a day for the past 2 months, I can truly attest to this!!).
Check this book out, and others by the same author.

My five year old son - who can read most 3 letter words, and some 4 letter words, loves this book.
He will sound some of the words out, but for the most part he has just memorized the book. It has catchy short rhymes. This book is really cute, and to a 5 yr old --funny too!
This is Kyle's favorite book, and has been since we received it 3 weeks ago.

Book Description

In The Sun Dog, the concluding novella in Stephen King's best-selling Four Past Midnight, the source of terror is a simple Polaroid camera owned by a 15-year-old boy in the small town of Castle Rock, Maine. No matter where Kevin Delevan aims the camera, it produces a photograph of an enormous, ugly, vicious looking dog. In each successive picture, the menacing creature draws nearer to the flat surface of the Polaroid film as if it intends to break through. When old Pop Merrill, the town's sharpest trader, gets wind of this phenomenon, he envisions a way to profit from it--but the Sun Dog, a beast that shouldn't exist at all, turns out to be a very dangerous investment.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Journeyman work by the master.......2003-06-19

This review refers mostly to the unabridged cassette version.

Typical Stephen King story. Starts out great and is fun getting there but far to often the ending (just like this story) is unsatisfying. The story involves a young teen who get a polaroid camera that does far more than take regular snap shots. Not really unique story telling but there are a number of interesting characters in the story. In particular Pop Merrill. A character so intricately drawn, that it is hard to tell if he is a good guy or a bad guy.

Overall I liked this story but I don't feel Mr. King put his all in this story. First off there is darn near a metaphor on every single page. I can't begin to count the number of times a sentence went something like " . . . it was like . . ." Another problem with the story is that it contained a number of flash forwards that went nowhere. One character has a flash forward but dies before the previously mentioned flash forward can come to pass. And the ending . . . Well, I won't ruin anything, but if you are familiar with these type of stories, you will not be surprised.

A hesitant recommendation, perhaps a library book more than a book store purchase. The audio cassette version read by Tim Sample is superbly done. He is able to carry off all the voices and his Pop Merrill is so nicely done, at times it seems it was a different reader.

4 out of 5 stars Sun Dog.......2002-04-04

I absolutely loved this book! The Sun Dog had me on the edge of my seat, biting my fingernails and scared to pick up an instamatic camera ever again! It was one of King's best. At the end of the book, however, there's a mention of a sequel - and I've been waiting for that for some time - I hope it happens....

4 out of 5 stars Mr. King "blurs the line" and suspends disbelief so smoothly.......1999-10-23

"Chilling" is the best description for this trip into the imagination of Stephen King and his characters. You hate 'em, you love 'em and you feel the beads of sweat on their foreheads.... This was a grimy read, and I was amazed at my discomfort and growing anxiety as the plot developed and then exploded... What a trip!!! Highly recommend it.

My two year old son loves this book. I have to give some credit to the illustrator, the colors and pictures are fabulous. This book is part of our nightly rotation. The repetition in the story allows my son to feel like he is reading too - he likes to say the parts at the end, "A dolphin jumping free and the sun in the sky and a bird flying by"
I highly recommend this adorable tale.

Greece's Cyclades islands serve as the backdrop for photographer Hans Silvester's latest voyeuristic venture into the animal world, Dogs in the Sun. Ranging in age, size, color, and hair type, these roving canines--who most often travel in packs and occasionally feature a domesticated dog or two along for the ride--know their island and "do exactly as they please." From romping on the beach to chasing a cat, lounging in the sun to protecting their territory, this mass of mutts is irresistible, and Silvester expertly captures their every move. "Every curl of the tail, every angle of wind-blown fur, every bared tooth, and every last innocent twinkle of the eye is skillfully revealed," resulting in a visual celebration of both the beauty of the Mediterranean and the indomitable spirit of the dog.

Customer Reviews:

1 out of 5 stars disappointing.......2006-08-06

I enjoy good photography, dogs and Greece has got to be one of the most photogenic places on earth. This book promised to be a great one but I found that ultimately I was disappointed. Although some of the pictures of the dogs were likeable, this book didn't really seem to bring out the beauty of the Greek Islands.

Furthermore I found the author's attitude that somehow being a stray dog on a Greek Island is an easy and desirable existence to be naive and silly at best. Greece has a pretty bad record on animal welfare and I shudder to think how the dogs are really treated when not being photographed. Being homeless, hungry and subject to human abuse all the time is not a desirable situation for any animal, even on a fantastic Greek Island.

1 out of 5 stars Animal lovers should be aware of the plight of these animals.......2001-04-06

All of Hans Silvester's photography books of dogs, cats & kittens in the Greek Cyclades Island are lovely examples of fine photography. As a fine art photographer myself, I respect Mr. Silvester's level of skill and artistry, and I find his other books very beautiful.

However, when I became aware of his books about the cats and dogs, I was thoroughly dismayed by his choice of subject matter and the way he has chosen to portray the lives of these creatures as idyllic and carefree.

Having been to these Greek islands, I have learned firsthand that the large majority of these poor animals are ignored, injured, or mistreated by people there-anything but "respected." The photographer has omitted portraits of the true conditions of most of the dogs and cats in Greece-crippled, starving, dying of thirt, hurt or maimed, with the humans around them barely taking notice.

The full horror of the story was revealed to me by locals on the islands. Each year, the cats & dogs are allowed to breed uncontrolled, because tourists are fond of seeing the cute animals around the island & on the beaches. At the end of each tourist season, as many of them as possible are rounded up and killed (I couldn't bear to learn how), until the following year when the ones that survived begin the cycle all over again. I found this same story on all the islands I visited, including Mykonos, and I was so appalled that I shortened my stay and left Greece altogether.

The situation is a tragedy, and my feeling, as a photographer & animal lover, is that Mr. Silvester should not be misrepresenting the condition of cats and dogs on the Greek islands, especially when it is for monetary gain. I hope animal lovers around the world will agree, and send a message to anyone who profits in any way from the suffering of these dogs and cats in the sun.

5 out of 5 stars Good concept, wrong island.......1999-03-14

This is another book review by the boonie dogs, Wolfie and Kansas. "Dogs in the Sun" by Hans Silvester is a book of photos of the stray dogs on Greek islands. We love the concept, although a Pacific island, like our own, would have provided a more colorful setting. The photos here portray real canine life, as opposed to the cute, but posed or staged, photos usually found in dog picture books. Unlike most books of this type, "Dogs in the Sun" might not be an appropriate gift for human puppies, as it contains some pictures of dog sex and violence.

5 out of 5 stars Delightful Romp with the Wild Dogs of Greece.......1999-01-11

Hans Silvester does an amazing job of capturing the spirit, personality and playfulness of dogs in this book. The photographs are wonderful, and the book is designed so that you can linger on each image and appreciate Silvester's skill as a photographer. I particularly enjoyed the photographic stories--sequences of images that show us dogs playing, exploring, being. I've never been to Greece, but now I feel like I have--at least to see the dogs there! Makes a beautiful coffee-table book.

Book Description

"When one desperately needs a respite from this bloody and clichéd, mad, mad world, Randles' novel Sun Dog Days is 'it.' He takes us into a desert country with space to see, feel, absorb a chunk of earth, a beauty and solace all its own.

"Buck, who was a cowboy and packer in his youth . . . now has a good job as a magazine editor, a loving wife and children and believes he is happy. Then . . . Smokey, his oldest and closest friend from his outdoor youth, lures him away for one last run at the wild horses before they are forever gone. Buck is terribly torn, because he may lose all this safety of family and regular paydays for what at best can only be described as 'an adventure.'

"Buck can't resist. Like most of us wish we could, he gives in to a desire, to something incomplete in his blood, his genes. As the two friends of the earth and smooth worn leather prepare for the chase and experience of the great desert, many wonderful things of nature in the raw and in the nature of mankind are revealed--to everyone. The camaraderie of the two men in these moments of freedom is filled with quick wit and earthy insight."--Max Evans

"I feel this will be Randles' signature work. That is very, very good indeed."--Max Evans, author of Madam Millie (UNM Press) and The Rounders

5 out of 5 stars You Don't Have to be A Cowboy to Appreciate Sun Dog Days.......2006-05-10

Once a cowboy, Buck's now a magazine editor living in Los Angeles. He's married to Jan, a woman with two children and settled into the life of a grownup, though he remembers his carefree cowboy youth with pleasure, especially early in the morning when he's waking up. At that point, he dreams he's on a horse thundering over the range. In fact Slim Randles' SUN DOG DAYS opens with Buck's dream. Each time he wakes up, Buck shrugs off the vision and heads for the office, where he thinks he's happy. Then things go haywire. A freelancer misses a deadline and Buck must must write the article to fill the space, though he knows little about the subject he needs to cover. If it weren't for Jan and the kids, he'd "take this job and shove it," he decides. Suddenly, the phone rings. When he answers, his old partner, Smokey's voice invites him to go for a beer. Twenty-four hours and many beers later, Buck finds himself fired, tossed out of the house by his wife, and off to illegally round up some horses with Smokey. The choice leads to Buck making some critical decisions about the life he wants to lead.

In SUN DOG DAYS, Slim Randles paints a vivid picture of the range, and the processes by which cowboys do their jobs. He also offrers a good look at the psyches of these tough men. But Randles also does something more. SUN DOG DAYS is the story of a man going through a mid-life crisis and coming to terms with who he is. In the process, the man learns something important about making and accepting choices and their consequences. This universal theme makes SUN DOG DAYS accessible to everybody, not just cowboys. In fact for the non-cowboy, SUN DOG DAYS tells its story in a refreshing way. For cowboys or cowboy wannabes, it catches the spirit of why they want to be cowboys. With warmth and humor Slim Randles presents fleshed out characters that are very human. His style is simple and direct, but never simplistic. SUN DOG DAYS is both a fun and gently thought provoking read.

5 out of 5 stars The Story of the Cowboy in All of Us.......2006-05-05

Sun Dog Days might appear as just a story about two over-the-hill cowboys, but it's much more than that. It's everyone's story. It's about what we fear as we crest the mountain that separates us from our youth. It doesn't matter whether we wrangle mustangs, wear a fireman's turnout, or climb a corporate ladder, there's still a part of us that wants one more feel of the reins of that thing that satisfied us most when we were in our prime. Sun Dog Days combines the thrill and the rhythm of one last great ride with the pathos of two ol' pards watching the sun set on what once was and will never be again. Buck and Smokey did what most of us only dream of doing, and in writing the story, Slim Randles' pen and easy-flowing dialogue proves there are still a few who can ride the crest for a long time. This may well be his best work. Wayne Winterton, author of "Whistler's Gold."

5 out of 5 stars WOW! What a Ride!.......2006-04-29

One of the most beautifully written books of our time. The first chapter will have you riveted to your chair with your eyes misting up. After the first three lines, I could see and hearthe horses; I could feel the melancoly mood. I could see Buck's eyes with a distant, almost vacant stare fixed upon his face. I was blown away. Several times during the book I had to stop and digest what I had just read. When I was finished, my eyes were stinging with tears and I felt like the old west was really still alive--at least in the eyes of real cowboys. I am still in awe of the beauty of this story. I can't recommend it highly enough. If there were 10 stars, I would rate it 10. CONGRATULATIONS TO SLIM RANDLES. I sure hope he keeps on telling his stories.

    Product Description

Legendary guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield, Hubert Sumlin, T-Bone Walker, Johnnie Winter, Albert King, Freddie King, and Chuck Berry are known to all blues fans for their remarkable soloing abilities. But the complete blues guitarist must do more than shine in the solo spotlight. And that is why every great soloist is also a great fill-in player. Tasteful fill-in licks support and inspire the singer while adding fire and drive to the performance. For example, Blind Lemon Jeffersons string-snapping fill-ins provided the perfect complement for his rough-hewn blues songs. Both Louis Armstrong and Lester Young seemed to talk to the singer with their finely-crafted, jazzy fill-ins. And Henry Sunflower Vestines stinging, buzzsaw fill-ins never failed to drive his Canned Heat bandmates into a psychedelic frenzy. This book is accompanied by a user-friendly split-track CD allows you to sit in with a professional blues band while you learn to play blues fills behind a great singer, Charles Adkins. The Heat-Seeking Missile Blues Band is heard on the left channel; the fill-in licks are isolated on the right channel. This is not just another book of abstract how do I use these licks in real life? licks, but a collection of solid musical ideas that can be applied to thousands of real songs. Another fine contribution from Red Dog Music Books, designed for the early intermediate-to intermediate guitarist. Some of the licks are accessible to highly motivated near-beginners, and the book is an excellent resource for teachers.

        Product Description

This superb Red Dog Music Book and CD allows you to learn/play slide guitar fill-ins while sitting in with a crisply recorded blues band and singer. The licks are clearly written in standard notation and tablature, and the companion CD contains all 101 licks, which are applicable to countless blues songs. A guide to symbols and several helpful fretboard diagrams are included. The licks are recorded on electric guitar but can also be played on acoustic. Overall, a very fine book that will provide unlimited learning and enjoyment. Many slide guitar books are confusing because they try to cover too many tunings. Everything here is in open E. Songs include standards such as Joe Turner Blues, St. Louis Blues, Sportin Life Blues, House of the Rising Sun, Midnight Special, along with several new songs written to standard blues changes. Like Hound Dog Taylor, J.B. Hutton, and Elmore James? Then you will like this book.

This is a "Must Read" book for any dog owner that truly loves their K-9 companions. Ms. Lacy has done an extraordinary job of combining affection with understanding and insight into the traits of " man's ( and woman's) best friend". Her compassion, love and tounge-in-cheek humor shows through on every page. The illustrations are marvelously done and you will gain a new understanding and respect for your four legged loved ones.
