5 out of 5 stars ABSolutely worth a look........2007-09-23

This book reminds me a lot of "Body For Life." It has a very workable plan to lose weight and the diet and exercise strategies are clearly laid out and explained in sufficient detail. Readers will find plenty of pictures too of the exercises that they are instructed to do. Motivational in nature, it's laid back writing style should appeal to many. Readers who like this book might also be interested in The Sixty-Second Motivator to help keep up their motivation to diet. Good luck!

5 out of 5 stars Abs Diet is an easy lifestyle.......2007-09-20

This is an easy to follow, straightforward eating and exercising lifestyle. It is not a diet, but a smart way to eat to maintain a healthy weight and great for your overall well-being. I had followed the same guidelines as outlined in Men's Health magazine and lost over 100lbs.to bring me to a normal weight and 6% body fat.

5 out of 5 stars Good Insight.......2007-09-18

I like the fact that the authors explain how things work in our bodies (how protein intake relates to the increased metabolism resulting from the workout, and to the muscle growth; which foods are good for metabolism; which of them aid in weight loss or lowering cholesterol levels). Although the idea of having six meals a day does not always fit my busy schedule, the one of snacking with fruits and/or nuts between main meals does seem to be effective in my case. What I like most about the book is the well balance diet that does not exclude any food groups. I am a great believer in the nourishment based on natural foods and The Abs Diet fully supports this belief. Dr. Tombak in the book "Can We Live 150 Year" farther explains proper food combination and its effect on our bodies. For that reason his book is a very good addition to The Abs Diet.

4 out of 5 stars Confused about the low fats.......2007-09-16

The book overall is good, but the sections about eating fats confused me.
First he talks about the 1980's war against fat, and he says they were wrong, and that fats are good because without fats you cannot get your fat soluble vitamins, A, D, E, and K. I agree. But, then he says saturated fats are bad, and saturated fats are in milk and meat which is also the best protein sources. So I just want to know why he is advocating low fat when he says low fat diets are bad. He does recommend olive oil, nuts and fish because of the fats in those. I believe that whole dairy is better for you than skim, because it's more natural and less processed. Altering natural foods is what got us into trouble in the first place.

I do understand about choosing leaner meats because we fatten the cows by feeding them way too many grains and it increases their fat deposits, which is unnatural.

Also he recommends eating lunch meat, and lunch meat has an awful lot of chemicals, unfortunately.

I would have liked a recommendation of what to look for in a whey protein powder, because I had never purchased any before.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent source on nutrition..........2007-09-12

I am a subscriber of Men's Health magazine and am very familiar with the author. I know this author is excellent. This book explains, in great detail, nutrition and how the body processes food. It also provides rather basic excercises that anyone can do. Yep, I need to lose weight about 20 pounds. I am not a big "restrictive diet" person becuase I have tried them and failed in the long run. What this book really is about is eating better(more healthy), changing our eating habits and excercising - very basic. It gives you a diet plan to follow which is rather easy...eat six small balanced meals a day to keep your metabolisim running. This book heavily emphasizes custom "smoothies" (all with whey protein in them) as regular meal substitute but, personally, I am not a shake/smoothie fan. I am not a big fan of "cold" food either. Luckily the book gives you recipes for "hot" food you can make and they are easy to make. Please be aware that you need to excercise often if you use the shakes becuase of the whey protein and peanut butter in some of them. If you don't you will get even fatter.
Monotony is also a problem with diets so I also recommend the "6 minute meals for 6 packs abs book" as well. It gives you even more recipes. Realistically I can't imagine getting 6 pack abs in 6 weeks. I can see an already skinny person who might have gained a few pounds to accomplish this in that time frame but heavier people will take longer.
Overall it is a great read and helps you form a base for healthy eating and excercising.

Book Description

A freak storm has spawned three tornadoes that are bearing down on the town of Summerville.

Yet under the cover of the storm looms a much more ominous threat: A vindictive killer known as Red who's left a string of victims in his wake and is now bent on exacting his final revenge on the unsuspecting town.

But there is an enigma surrounding Red that the FBI is unwilling to admit-closely guarded secrets of something gone terribly wrong beneath the skin of Summerville. Secrets that will destroy far more than one small town.

Wendy Davidson is caught in the middle. She's a recovering cult survivor who takes refuge in Summerville on her way to visit her estranged mother. And with her, four strangers, any of whom could be the next victim . . . or the killer.

3 out of 5 stars Sadly disappointed.......2007-09-26

I'm a HUGE Ted Dekker fan...I own at least one copy of every book to date...and I've recommended his books to many people to find they enjoy his books very much as well. When "Skin" came out, I rushed to the bookstore and purchased it immediately. Unfortunately, it was a let-down. The book was sometimes even a struggle to read, unlike his others, and I was utterly disappointed at the end. In reading the other reviews of "Skin," I'm apparently not alone. What happened to the Ted Dekker whose books left us with such an impact and new insight into this life we live and the God we serve? "Skin" seemed to continue down a trend of "secular" writing in the name of creativity, rather than the impactful, spiritually relevant writing of "The Circle Trilogy," "Blink," and others.

So here's to hoping the path turns back toward the fruitful and potentially life-affecting books that we all know 'could' continue to hit the press. Ultimately, the fruit is what is most valuable, not the entertainment value anyhow. Please, Ted...

2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing.......2007-08-27

I grew up on Stephen King and Den koontz... but lately have been attempting to not fill my mind with too much wordly garbage (which King can do...) so I took a friend's advise and turned to Dekker. His book Showdown was excellent and House was very good as well. SKIN.... not so much. I ready it very quickly, and at first was drawn into the story... but it is a letdown. The dialouge was cheesy, the storyline confusing, and the ending predictable. I will give Mr. Dekker's next novel a chance but if it reflect anything seen in SKIN then I will have to find my "horror" book fix elsewhere.

3 out of 5 stars Some good material for a much shorter story.......2007-08-14

Normally I am a big fan of the creative Mr Dekker. However, I almost gave up on this one twice and only hung in there to the end to see what kind of twist he would produce this time. Indeed there was one, at about the 3/4 point - a good one - but with some big logic holes still left in it. Without the twist, this was a 2 star at the best, full of lame, immature, repetitive, weak dialog, strung together with cliches. A good hard nosed editor most likely could have turned this embarrassment into a very good short story. Hopefully I am wrong, and other Dekker fans will love it. However, I may skip a couple of the next ones hoping he will eventually get back into the form evidenced in Thr3e, Blink, and the trilogy. In the meantime, I hope he reads more Koontz and absorbs some of Dean's snappy dialog.

2 out of 5 stars Big Disappointment.......2007-08-07

I must join the others who've said that this book was a big disappointment. It took me much longer than normal to read through it because it just was not all that interesting. When I finally did finish it, I was left wondering what the point was. I am a mature Christian but if there is some deep spiritual truth to be gleaned from this work of fiction, it sure has eluded me.

I have not been all that impressed with his most recent novels but this one was the most disappointing. I see a trend here that I don't like. I hope Ted can refresh his ideas and get back on track to writing novels like "Blink".

4 out of 5 stars Another Masterfully Written Parable.......2007-07-18

Another well done Dekker thriller! Dekker is a very interesting writer for several reasons, but one of the most unique things about his writing is the way it evolves so rapidly from one novel to the next. I never know what to expect!

That was especially true with Skin. It just didn't go the way I expected. For starters, I was pleasantly surprised because the book description makes it sound like a rehashing of House, a novel that Dekker recently co-authored with Frank Peretti. I liked House, but I wanted Skin to be its own novel. It definitely was.

The story begins with five strangers thrown together in a small town through highly unusual circumstances. In the midst of a massive storm, a serial killer strikes-and keeps striking. For some unknown reason, he begins targeting this group of five and draws them into a twisted homicidal mind game.

That would be enough groundwork for a thriller, but Dekker takes it further: reality itself seems to begin playing games with these five young men and women as the story takes on a Twilight Zone quality. As the truth gradually reveals itself, we discover along with the characters that real truth lies just beyond the skin of this world.

One of the best things I like about Dekker is that he's a master teller of modern-day parables. That's really what his stories-especially the ones from the past two or three years, which are quite distinct from his earlier novels-are: parables.

I'd definitely recommend Skin, but with a strong warning: it is not for the faint of heart! The violence in the book would make it difficult for a movie version to escape with anything less than an R rating. But if you can stomach that (it's gross and violent, but not excessively graphic), you might find Skin to be one of those novels that genuinely affects the way you perceive the world around you... and the world within you.

A portable companion to the larger Abs Diet: The Six-Week Plan to Flatten Your Stomach and Keep You Lean for Life, this friendly little guide fulfills several purposes. First, The Abs Diet Eat Right Every Time Guide condenses the "power foods" recommended by the diet--a nutritionally sound mix of lean proteins, whole grains, fresh vegetables, fruit and monounsaturated fats--into easy-to-read lists that will help with daily purchasing habits. Second, a number of "Abs Diet Endorsements" are included to help you make proper food choices, even if you're grabbing lunch from a vending machine or food court. Lastly, it offers up a tidy handful of new recipes for wraps, snacks and smoothies along with a short-n-sweet workout. In other words, it supplies everything you need from a diet book to manage the diet on a day-to-day basis.

The casual hanging-with-the-boys style could be your favorite thing about it, or what drives you crazy. Phrases like "Skipping breakfast is like arguing with the cops; there's absolutely nothing good that can come out of it" can either help reinforce the basics or just make you want to get far, far away from the rest of the jokes, such as, "Oatmeal is the Bo Derek of your pantry--it's a perfect 10".

The ultimate goal is uncovering your own six pack, and benefits like lower blood pressure seem less important than waist size. There's something to be said for to-the-point surface goals, but your attitude about image will likely determine your attitude about the book's usefulness. --Jill Lightner

1 out of 5 stars Misleading book from an "expert" who cheats people.......2007-07-29

I didn't like this book because it rehashes a lot of the same stuff in his first book, thus the materials is not very "new". "Ted Tesser's New Book" is a case of the Emperor's New Clothes. The author runs a supposedly reputable business in Florida trying to "save traders money". I followed the tax advice in the book on setting up corporate entities and ended up caught between a rock and a hard place, because the book did not include critically important details (perhaps intentionally?). When I needed more specific details, the authors' company tried to force me to pay $350/hour charged to a credit immediately over the phone for advice if my CPA was standing there to help me make sense of it all. The phone call was already costing me $100/hour. At that point I knew I was dealing with a sheister. I would not recommend this book or getting involved with the Waterside Financial to anyone. The New Trader's Tax Solution: Money-Saving Strategies for the Serious Investor, 2nd Edition, Updated

3 out of 5 stars Good beginner book.......2005-08-13

The book is really good. The reason why I gave it only 3 stars is that it doesn't cover the complex stuff I am looking for. And it mostly target to small trader. This book will do you little good if you able to make over million dollars a year from the market. The book does not mention much about asset protection. As with any trader, the only asset is their cash, and I believe the author should put more work into this section if a new version is on the way.

O.K., the recipe's are not what you would find in your typical recipe book, but they're nutritious, filling, & pretty yummy- Not at all like a traditional diet book. This diet has elements of Atkins, but adds food that is forbidden in Atkins. High protein, high fiber, low carbs, low sugar. It's only been 2 days, but I already feel healthier. Don't look at the scale right away. Mine showed an immediate gain of 2 lbs., but this is real food, not diet food. It takes a while to be processed. I've done Atkins with the same initial experience. You should notice the initial difference in the looser feel of your clothes. 5 STARS!!!

Book Description

Boston, that historical center of colonial charm, splendid parklands, superior universities, and technological development, is an endlessly fascinating place. It is the cauldron, not just of American freedom, but also, arguably, of modern democracy itself. The great names of Boston—Revere, Hancock, Adams, Kennedy, Lodge, O'Neill—are American legends. The stops along the Freedom and the Black Freedom trails are cornerstones of Early American life. Luckily for visitors, this old port city is compact, easily walkable, and eminently photogenic.
Gleaming skyscrapers have asserted their place in the skyline, but Boston seems little changed from the days when Henry David Thoreau dropped in on the Old Corner Bookstore. In this stunning new collection of full-color portraits, renowned photographer Carol M. Highsmith captures the principal historic landmarks from the African Meeting House to John F. Kennedy's birthplace in Brookline; neighborhoods from tony Beacon Hill to the eclectic South End; thriving downtown shops and restaurants; the major universities and celebrated museums; and the "Emerald Necklace" of parklands. A lively, information-packed introduction and captions by award-winning writer Ted Landphair offer the perfect complement to Highsmith's outstanding images.
Boston: A Pictorial Souvenir celebrates the enduring elegance of New England's hub city. It is the perfect souvenir of a memorable visit, and the ideal gift for anyone who savors history, unforgettable architecture, cultural vitality, and high-tech innovation—the diversity that is truly Boston.

4 out of 5 stars Boston.......2002-09-01

This is a good book as a souvenir and after having visited Boston six times, I know many of the places photographed and can vividly recall the moments I spent there. There's a detailed introduction looking at all aspects of Bostonian life, including some fabulous old photographs. The rest of the book presents the modern-day town, from the architecture to its people, traditional and contemporary. A lot of the photographs focus on detail, with some good camera angles, but I feel some more general views could have been used to get a better impression of this fantastic town.

Want to learn how to speak the language of critters, large and small? Easy-to-read and understand, Ted Andrews's bestselling Animal Speak shows readers how to identify his or her animal totem and learn how to invoke its energy and use it for personal growth and inner discovery. Nature lovers will love this insightful compendium, chock-full of touching stories about animals, natural history, and animal folklore. Readers will also learn magical animal rites and how to read omens. Animal Speak includes a dictionary of bird, animal, reptile, and insect totems, which describe each creature's meaning. For example, if a person's totem is dragonfly, he or she was most likely excessively emotional and passionate in early years, learning with age to balance it with mental clarity and control. If a dragonfly suddenly shows up in your life, it means you may need to gain a new perspective or make a change. --P. Randall Cohan

4 out of 5 stars Animals do indeed communicate information to us.......2007-10-02

This book was recommended to me several years ago, and since reading it I regularly refer to it as an informational resource. On many occasions I have been amazed at how relevant the information about a particular creature was to what I was experiencing at the time it happened to cross my path. I found Animal Speak to be of such value to me that I chose to include an excerpt from it within my own book. As such, I highly recommend it to any person who has interest in the spiritual path.

Animal Speak: The Spiritual & Magical Powers of Creatures Great & Small

Great book, I had seen Ted Andrews in person, what an incredible man. I already had so many books at the time, I did not buy it then and have him sign it. But recently it is the time of skunks and well, I have just seen/smell for several weeks. My friend has the book, and she read me the section about skunks, and it was amazing. how much of what it had to say about skunks, from strength, relationships, boundaries, sensuality, were the things I was looking at in my life. So I decided to buy the book after all, and it is a great thing.

5 out of 5 stars Animal Speak Still Going Strong.......2007-08-11

This purchase was a replacement for an fifteen year old copy that I simply wore out. I bought the first copy when I met Ted Andrews in 1987, I teach neo-shamanism and suggest that all of my students have this book and it's accompaniment "Nature Speak." Ted is a naturalist and knows animals and nature first hand. He combines his knowledge with ancient and modern myth and lore to give us a comprehensive guide to how animals interact in our metaphysical world.

5 out of 5 stars Fascinating Information about animal symbolism.......2007-07-31

"The most common belief in many societies is that spiritual guides often use animals or animal imagery to communicate their purpose and roles to humans." -From the book.

I was drawn to this book several years ago when I had a recurring dream about an animal and felt sure that there was an important message in it for me. I have used it several times since to look up the meaning associated with certain animals that came across my path. We may think that these encounters are random or coincidental, but they're not. Often we don't see signs that are right in front of us. Does it take a billboard to get you to take notice? For me, sometimes it does, but I have tried to slow down and pay attention to these subtle natural nudges because a lot of times, they contain a powerful message or just good advice! Just as symbols, seeing/encountering certain animals may, on the surface have no meaning to us, but our subconcious knows what it means.

There is a HUGE amount of information in this book. It is very interesting to read. In addition to finding out the meanings/messages of animals, it also tells you how to find out what your nature totems are and how to work with that energy.

In chapter 4 'Reading signs and omens in nature' there are charts for the meanings or symbolism of certain trees and flowers and the positive/negative qualities of colors.

Highly interesting book and great to have for reference.

5 out of 5 stars All creatures, great and small . . ........2007-06-29

This was one of my earlier "special" books. My girlfriend, a Reiki Master, looked up spider for me. I think I had a dream about spider. One of those "insightfull" dreams. You know, the dreams that you just know are more than an ordinary dream. The info she gave me from the book really made me appreciate the spider and what it was trying to tell me. I got hooked, on both Ted Andrews' books and understanding about animals. I always liked animals, but I was a little picky on WHICH animals, and creatures, I liked.

Ted Andrews writes really great metaphysical books. He clearly knows what he's talking about and does his darnest to explain it all to you, with all the details, and in an easy to understand fashion. Besides the fact that it's easy to look up an animal in the book, he explains lots of other related stuff.

I use this book whenever an animal or creature seems out of the norm. Examples would be seeing a single crow over and over again, seeing an animal in some really unusual circumstances, dreaming about an animal, especially if the dream is different. You know a "different" dream when you have one. Maybe you are half asleep/half awake and see a wolf looking directly at you and his eyes are glowing and you sense he is telling you something.

Amazon.com Exclusive: "A Night in Louisville" by Matt Lee and Ted Lee
On a clear, brisk February afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky, in the asphalt parking lot of Lynn's Paradise Cafe, we started a fire. All it took to get going was some wadded-up newspaper, a small pyramid of charcoal, and a match. To keep the flame alive, we put our cheeks to the chilly pavement and blew on the bottom layer of coals. Diners leaving the cafe from early dinners glanced at us, chuckled nervously, and hurried along to their cars. When the pile was glowing, we added some split logs and the plume of smoke rising from the pavement became woodsy and fragrant. By the time the sun went down, the flames were hotter and brighter, so we added more oak. Once the fire was roaring, customers in the restaurant became concerned, and the chef, Sarah, in clogs and a kerchief, shuffled out with the buttoned-up manager, Lori, to check on us.

Praise for The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook

"The Lee Bros. have written the classic Southern cookbook. They write with flair, brilliance, and hilarious commentary on the recipes, customs, and eccentricities of the South they celebrate with such passion. Their recipes are so good that I believe cookbook writers like the Lee Bros. may turn Southern cooking into an actual cuisine." -- Pat Conroy, author of The Prince of Tides

"I'm a bag fan of that particular brand of Southern poetry and smarts that make up the Lee Bros.' contributions--the best food pieces I read in the Wednesday New York Times each week--so I attacked Matt and Ted's new book like a hungry wolf. I found the same genius and eye for a good story, as well as simple-to-make recipes of the new exotic cooking of the American South. These recipes make my mouth water, and the prose makes my eyes well up for its beauty, simplicity, and truth." -- Mario Batali, chef/owner, Babbo restaurant

"These guys can cook! Just reading the recipes makes me ravenous for scintillating Southern dishes. Sign me up for Tuesday Fried Chicken and Sweet Potato Buttermilk Pie!" -- Bobby Flay, chef/owner, Mesa Grill, BOLO, and Bar Americain

"The brothers Lee chronicle a South unbound by geography. They celebrate a people loosed from the burden of history but still mindful of the ties that bind. In the Lee South, boiled peanuts and edamame play well together. So do black and white, young and old, native and outlander. You'll feel welcome here." -- John T. Edge, author of Southern Belly: the Ultimate Food Lover's Companion to the South

"The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook makes me daydream of a long ago summer on a Pawleys Island back porch, the aroma of the marsh and the dinner table mingling with laughter of many generations of families and a few too many glasses of wine. Oh to the magic of being at table together in the South." -- Frank Stitt, author of Frank Stitt's Southern Table

"The wit and enthusiasm of the Lee Bros. is irresistible, as are the recipes--a mix of traditional Southern classics and unique, highly individual creations--which will have you reaching for your cast- iron (or stainless steel) skillet." -- Scott Peacock, author of The Gift of Southern Cooking

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars terrific read - great writing.......2007-09-30

I based my purchase on others opinions and I am glad that I did. I have not attempted to re-create any recipes because reading the book itself is such a delight. I am looking forward to doing some of the preserving and found such inspiration from this.

3 out of 5 stars Just ok........2007-08-07

I was really excited to buy this book. I love southern cooking...with that said...I haven't made one dish from this book. I intended to make boiled peanuts...a family favorite...but they take like 8 hours to make. I was delighted to find they had a recipe for them!

It is a really big cookbook. I was attracted to the fact these genteel brothers both pursued the same careers...seems sweet. It just couldn't hold a candle to a cookbook I purchased back in the 80's by an old woman out of Kentucky (ok, I really don't know where she was from or how old she was...but there was a lot of wisdom in that book so I assumed she was old!)...I believe it was called The Heritage of Southern Cooking by Camille Glenn. I just looked it up on this site and it has been reissued with new photographs for 2007. Now that is a good cookbook! If I had to choose between the Lee Bros. and hers...get Camille's. Another good option is one of Nathalie Duprees cookbooks. (Though I couldn't stand watching her cooking show...she was not TV ready!)

2 out of 5 stars Bayou by way of Brooklyn.......2007-08-07

What a disappointing hodge-podge of old yarns, uninteresting recipes and advertisements (for themselves and their pals!) These boys are from New York. It's never stated, but my guess is that they are closer kin to Dolly Levi than to the sainted Robert E. Lee. Caveat emptor.

3 out of 5 stars Good, but preview it before you buy it.......2007-06-13

It's a labor of love, but one that tends to favor low country fare. It's heavy on seafood recipes and those items can be pricey or hard to get for non-coastal cooks. The commentary was good and the pictures were pretty and representative of southern food.

This book might be better for the southern gourmet or foodie, rather than the everyday time-pressed southern cook. It's a nice receptacle of southern culture and food, but it's large and clunky and takes up too much space on the kitchen counter. For such a large book, the smallish print is difficult to read. A nice coffee table gift item?

3 out of 5 stars Very good ... but not without some flaws.......2007-06-07

The Lee Bros Southern Cookbook may be the only Southern cookbook you'll ever need. The boys offer hundreds of great recipes and funny anecdotes, but to be honest, the book could have used more photos. It's often quite helpful to see a picture of what you're trying to cook in a cookbook so you can get an idea of what the finished product is supposed to look like. Granted, the book does HAVE photos, but only inserted at intervals throughout the text like those movie stills you get in movie tie-in novelizations. The problem with this is that the photo of the dish you're trying to cook may be several dozen pages away from the page the actual recipe's on, forcing you to have to flip back and forth, which is not always easy when you've got your hands full in the kitchen. Also, the photos seem a bit dark and murky, like those cliched photos from French cookbooks of the 1970s, which always seemed to have big bunches of purple garlic tied together with straw and a dead game bird in there somewhere.

Another flaw is the paper the book's printed on. It's cheap-looking and rather rough, like the paper in a kids' colouring-in book, which means it would be very easy to stain in the average kitchen. Glossier paper would have been better -- it's easier to wipe clean if you spill a blob of sauce on it or something, and it would've just looked nicer and more professional too.

Those points aside, the brothers' book is hard to fault. You get quantity AND quality here, in spades. The boys have managed to modernize many classic Southern recipes while still maintaining the integrity of them. For some recipes, they've tossed out unhealthy (and franky, gross) ingredients like marshmallows (who in their right mind would use marshmallows in a SALAD?) and replaced them with healthier, tastier alternatives (like avocado, which offers the same creaminess and texture). These guys are smart, creative, and ebullient about food, and their enthusiasm is contagious. I can't wait to really start exploring their book in depth, but it may take me years to fully do so.

Book Description

Whether they are called clients, customers, constituents, or, in Disney-speak, guests, all organizations must best serve the people who purchase their products and services or risk losing them. Now, for the first time, one critical element of the methods behind the magic that is the Walt Disney World Resort-quality service-is revealed in Be Our Guest. Even before Tom Peters and Bob Waterman profiled Walt Disney World Resort in their groundbreaking book In Search of Excellence, the most popular resort destination in the world enjoyed a reputation as a company that sets the benchmark for best business practices. Be Our Guest outlines proven Disney principles and processes for helping your organization focus its vision and align its people and infrastructure into a cohesive strategy that delivers on the promise of exceptional customer service.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A great lesson from a mouse.......2007-03-24

From the first page this book began teaching lessons worth well more than the cover price! Im a retail manager that often looks for ways to drive my teams and actively engage my customers.

Through well written examples of several operating practices you slowly begin to learn how the daily operations of Disney World apply to your own business. Within the first few chapters I was sharing the principles with my team leaders.

The entire book is written in a way thats not typical of business improvement books. The Disney template allows you to understand the theories by recalling your own visit to Disney World or Disneyland. You remember the small details that you encounter during your stay. The book even points out those elements taken for granted that would detract from the experience if they werent there; like pavement textures and garbage cans and it all makes sense.

I bought this book after a very positive recent visit to Disneyland. This is actaully when I would recommend buyng the book. Either before or right after a visit. Trust me, this will impact your understanding of the books priciples.

If Walt Disney had known how his own business beliefs would affect the 21st Century business person I feel he'd be proud. Forget the old corporate templates and listen with your heart to Walts vision of how to please your customers. Be our guest will provide the magic carpet ride, you just have to get on.

5 out of 5 stars another one for Disney.......2007-02-11

lot's of great info from the Disney point of view. It may seem the book only applies to the theme park environment, but it's easy to apply their guidelines to almost any business

5 out of 5 stars Service Excellence.......2007-01-10

Great book with actionable ideas that I have implemented in my company and they are making a possitive difference. Even if you are not in a "leadership" position, by sharing these processes with your boss or even testing them on a small scale and letting others see the possitive impact, you will look like a star. Disney is not a huge success by accident.
Bottom line: it all comes back to customer service. You want to keep customers or get more customers; get this book and don't be afraid to try what is in it.

5 out of 5 stars Should we be Surprised?.......2006-08-26

Disney, as reflected in their stellar "guest satisfaction and loyalty," at their theme parks has brought this resource to the manager, and customer retention specialist. In so doing, the writers reveal the "magical secret" of how to create loyal raving fans of your business. It is no secret that with today's globalization, expereince economy, and scare of commoditization for businesses, this is a MUST read for anyone that has anything to do with a customer. Great work once again!

5 out of 5 stars The Science Behind the Magic.......2004-11-23

This book is a quick read, yet has a very detailed and adaptable structure around which to build a customer service organization. The process presented in the book works systematically to create a self-renewing customer service structure, while allowing those using it to retain the distinctiveness of their organization. In addition to historic examples of how Disney has consistently applied their own principles, the book uses examples from former clients, including details of how they adapted those principles to their businesses.

This is the perfect book for someone looking to create more than just a laundry list of policies and procedures. For fans of Disney, the book also gives terrific insights into Walt Disney's vision and the Disney way of doing things.
