Just A Dream
Cheated out of her inheritance by a willful stepmother, Lady Elizabeth Stanton follows Nathaniel O'Connor to America -- eager to accept the dashing shipbuilder's proposal of marriage. But it is a stranger who greets the penniless miss at her intended's door -- the true owner of the grand Boston mansion, Nathaniel's handsome, secretive and insufferable older brother, Morgan.
Just One Kiss
The cruel treachery of a disloyal sibling left Morgan angry and bitter -- but he takes in the cad's forsaken fiancee nonetheless. And when one stolen kiss threatens scandal, he offers to wed the proud, golden-haired beauty himself. But Elizabeth is devoted to a rogue. And Morgan must first conquer his own pain and suspicion to know a passion that can thaw a frozen heart...and a love that can heal all wounds.

Not a Happy Tale.......2004-06-11
Lady Elizabeth Stanton is forced to sail to America after the death of her father in order to escape the "fiance" her stepmother has provided for her. Months before, Lady Elizabeth accepted a marriage proposal from Nathanial O'Connor, an American, and she intends to honor that arrangement. However, upon arrival in Boston, she finds his brother, Morgan, living the life that Nathanial claimed as his own.
Lady Elizabeth and Morgan immediately distrust and dislike each other, however due to a possible scandal, they are forced to marry. Throughout the book, the marriage is strained by distrust and non-communication. Neither Morgan nor Elizabeth ever take the time to learn about each other, and each kept hurting the other in the process.
I did not feel that this couple could ever truly fall in love, and when they discovered, their love it is not believable. I believe the relationship was forced and most women taking the constant abuse from Morgan would have left. This was my first Samatha James novel and I will give her another chance. Hopefully, the other tales will have more romance and love in them.
Unyielding !!.......2003-11-25
This portrayal, of a dark unreasonable man, torments the reader. I understand Morgan O'Connor had a hard life, but romance must be the paramount purpose in a romance book, and here . . . it is absent.
At a young age, Morgan O'Connor was forced to be his brother's keeper - a brother who rejected life's responsibilities. Lady Elizabeth Stanton, disinherited, has fled England, and come to Boston to accept Nathaniel O'Connor's recent marriage purpose. Discovering the absent Nathaniel deceived her with lies and pretense, Elizabeth must now consider the somber proposal Morgan is offering. Elizabeth does accept the inevitability and hesitantly she surrenders to this dismal man.
Unfortunately, their relationship and, in particular, the sex scenes are forced and nasty leaving this romance lover uncomfortable. One disturbing example: when Morgan angrily confronts Elizabeth with his suspicion of "brotherly sharing", the blameless Elizabeth acts out the role of a "seasoned courtesan". Yup, I'm sure that's one way to convince a man of your innocence?
Samantha James does attempt some tenderness. She gives, Elizabeth and Morgan, one blissful week, in a secluded love cottage. However, this reprieve is short-lived. Upon their return to Boston and the realities of life, Morgan is again dark and irritable, and Elizabeth simply pushes the right buttons to get his displeasure raging. Her naive tactlessness, her obtuse behavior, and their shared ability to jump to the wrong conclusions are relentless.
In the concluding pages, Morgan's understanding slowly arrives, but it is too little, too late. What a shame, for I found the author's writing to be free and easy. It was the storyline that was dreary.

A masterpiece by Samantha James.........2001-03-25
This novel is definitely one of Samantha James' best. Having been thrilled with "Gabriel's Bride", and a little disappointed with "One Moonlit Night" and "My Lord Conqueror", I approached this novel with some trepidation. However, my fears were largely unfounded. This book delivers, not only in terms of the plot, but also in the development of the characters. Morgan and Elizabeth are wonderfully memorable together (especially the scene in which she bids him leave for New York), yet James' still makes the reader feel almost sorry for Nathaniel, the dastardly reprobate of the story. I did not want to put this book down, and was certainly sorry to have come to the end of it. I would definitely put this book up as a keeper - it's a real toecurler.
Average; a good way to spend a few hours.......2000-06-10
There was a small controversy over this book when it first came out because according to some, the hero (like most of them do) mistreats the heroine throughout the entire book and it's only at the end when he briefly redeems himself. For me, I didn't see this as that big of a problem; yes, Morgan was undeniably pig-headed; the Big Misunderstanding could have been avoided if only the main characters had communicated... However, I liked Morgan; I have a soft spot for these brooding alpha males (well, when they're well-written; and Just One Kiss does falls into that category despite some of the quibbles I had.) Overall, this is a good book to pass the day with; nothing spectacular, but if you do like Ms. James' style I would suggest One Moonlit Night, another book of hers that I liked better.
A sensual, entertaining tale with a good dose of mystery........1999-09-13
I enjoyed this story very much. I felt for the heroine, who's been cheated out of her inheritance by her stepmother and lied to by the hero's brother. Morgan had to be the strong one in the family all his life, while his brother shirked responsibility. He marries the heroine to protect her good name, but discovers that he's having feelings for her that are not expected ... or welcome. I found the characters to be multi-dimensional and the author weaves a mystery into the story without slowing it down or interrupting the romantic flow. I think I'll be a Samantha James fan for a long time.

Book Description
Arriving on a lush Pacific island, Eulalie Grace LaRue was soon to be reunited with the father she hadn't seen since childhood. Yet before Lollie's dreamed-of meeting could take place, the lovely Southern belle was caught in the crossfire of a violent revolution -- and thrown into the rugged arms of Sam Forester.
On the run in the jungle, the battle-scarred soldier of fortune didn't know what to do with the pampered blonde placed in his care. Survival was his top priority, but he could not resist Lollie's seductive charm...or deny the growing attraction between them. Though Sam thrived on chance and risk, falling in love was the one chance he wasn't willing to take.
Powerless against the desire that consumed them both, Lollie surrendered to his passionate embrace. But when he dismissed her affections, she was determined to fight for him...to prove that in the steamy heat of paradise, two hearts would find the love of a lifetime....

Funniest romance ever!.......2006-05-06
I am in a readers group and was lucky enough to meet Jill Barnett when she lived near the Bookstore that we meet at when this came out. This is her funniest book, (steamy too!) although I love all her stories. She is funnier and sweeter in person. I love Sam and Lollie and the epilogue is the best part. I wish Jill would write a sequel for Sam's friend. It is a very fast read and lots of laughter. Very original setting and somewhat violent but not over the top. I loved the cover of the original edition. Thanks Jill for all the laughs!
This book will make you laugh tell you cry..........2004-05-22
This is the most funny crazy matched couple in the book I have ever read.I laugh tell I cryed and read this in 2 days.It was so hard to put down.I never read anything by this author but if any of her other books are as good as this one I am in.This was one crazy read.Have fun and enjoy I did.
Jungle romance.......2004-04-25
Set in 1896 in the jungles of the Philippines, Lollie La Rue has arrived in Manila to meet her father who has been absent most of her life. She gets kidnapped by a group of guerillas who think that she is associated to Sam Forester, a mercenary who fights for a different faction of guerillas. They travel together through the jungles of the Philippines to flee their captors and to avoid the shots of Spanish soldiers. Sam is a hardened mercenary from the wrong side of town whilst Lollie is a pampered socialite. She finds it difficult to rough it out in the jungle but finds herself attracted to the rugged and handsome Sam. Sam finds Lollie an annoyance and it's no wonder. She screams and shouts loud enough to make anyone run a mile and is so maladroite.
I love the humour in Jill Barnett's books and this book is no exception but I didn't really feel that there was much chemistry between the two main leads. Lollie is just too annoying to be endearing. However, the book is fast paced with lots of adventure and humour so I still give it 4 stars.

Great Book!.......2002-12-22
I loved this book! I can understand why some people didn't like the book and after reading the reviews I was thinking about not reading the book, but I glad I didn't listen. I enjoyed the character Lollie. She wasn't perfect, but she had a lot of heart and was just what Sam needed. Yes, he did say some things that I didn't like, but I feel that it just added to who he was and his individuality. Both characters saved each other and helped each other grow. I laughed while reading this book because of all the things Lollie got into. I love the characters that Jill Barnett makes up. She is one of my favorite authors and I have yet to read a book by her that I didn't like. I read all of her books, but two and can't wait for her to write more. Jill Barnett has the writer's gift!
A brute and a ditz - they deserve each other.......2002-02-26
I didn't think this book was very funny at all and I like the author's work. I would have given this book less of a rating except for the fact that I did finish it. Lollie is so inept it was painful and Sam is so mean and verbally abusive to her, calling her stupid all the time, even when he is supposed to be falling in love with her. Except for the fact that he is always there to save her from her ineptitude, this man is a brute and has very little redeeming features. Poor Lollie never seems to improve and her accidents are not very funny. Why these two people wind up together is a mystery. Don't like dumb women, don't like mean-spirited men.

In working families, mothers are still responsible for 70 percent of the household chores. What gives? While it's no longer unusual to see a father toting his kid around in a Baby Bjorn, it's still cause for celebration to witness a guy holding a toilet brush. To prevent bitterness from such unequal workloads from boiling over, mom Karen Bouris proposes a remedy in the form of an "Equal Parenting Agreement," or EPA, a written checklist of assigned responsibilities designed to keep every family member happy. She leaves no detail out, with slots for scheduling the kids' doctor appointments, breadwinning, making sure the life-insurance policy is up to date, and, yes, cleaning the toilets. She and her husband arranged their own EPA that ultimately meant he would work fewer hours at his job, and she would work more. It's no simple process, with questions and exercises designed to determine your parenting priorities ("how will you help your children feel loved?"), and even your "Family Standard of Cleanliness." Some readers may be turned off by the touchy-feely terms, such as "intentional steps" and "Mother Martyr" or the sheer number of exercises, which are likely a byproduct of her time spent in couples' counseling. But there's no denying that the process of creating an EPA--using Bouris's recommended process of self- analysis and negotiation--is bound to at least open up the lines of communication, and at most make it a lot more pleasant to keep the house running. --Erica Jorgensen
Book Description
It's no secret that the bulk of the household management and childcare still falls to women, even if they work and make equal or more money than their partners. It's also no secret that women want this to change. Here is the book to help them design a more equal parenting arrangement with their partner, to give them a voice and a plan of action. By offering questions for discussion, exercises, and negotiation points (like planning the social calendar), couples can redefine roles and assign responsibility, increase communication, and give a welcome boost to their love life. With the humor, wisdom, and advice gained from over 75 interviews with women and men, Just Kiss Me and Tell Me You Did the Laundry will help women have a more balanced home life and a more intimate marriage.

A Must Read for Stay At Home Dads!.......2007-06-05
Hands down, this is a must read for any stay-at-home parent. Especially Stay-at-Home Dads.
Women owe a debt to author Karen Bouris.......2004-11-19
By defining the predicament of working mothers who because of tradition bear most of the work load of home and children and by explaining how it causes resentment and stress in motherhood, the author gives a detailed and honest look of what is happening in marriages today.
The book is priceless in that it supplies ideas and information that couples usually only get by spending a lot of money at a marriage counselor. The divorce rate will severely drop in the marriages of couples who use this valuable workbook as their guide.
With great courage, humor and wisdom, Bouris shares intimate details of how she and her husband managed to work out a plan that would allow, in their case, to switch traditional roles and share in parenting and household chores. And she describes how their new roles helped them gain insights, experiences and joy they would have otherwise missed out on.
She writes that needs for every couple are not the same and that they might even change as the years go by. But if couples will honestly communicate their desires to each other, they can put into action the kind of marriage they want. The author goes into great depth analyzing and describing the typical emotional reactions of couples in marital situations. She gives many examples of what life is like for the modern day working parent. This allows the reader to identify and realize their situations are not unique.
This book is not only about how Mothers who want or need to have a career should have the support and cooperation from the father in sharing the parental responsibilites and handling household chores. It also gives many helpful tips to couples on how to nuture their relationship, honor themselves, and cherish each other. It is a detailed and helpful guide how to negotiate with your mate and organize your life so that your marriage blossoms and grows.
Unbelievably Insightful and Challenging.......2004-11-18
For all of us who are parents and share that journey with a partner this book is an amazing resource. It challenges you to improve your situation and truly create the kind of partnership you want with your spouse. The book is funny, effective and at times can seriously push your buttons. I found myself occasionally feeling stressed as I read it because it really made me assess what I like and don't like about my situation. It has REAL life exercises and suggestions to help you make improvements and changes rather than just discussing the difficulties (and of course joys) of parenting and living with your spouse. A great, enjoyable and (for me somewhat life changing) read!
Great Help for Couples.......2004-04-19
There are so many books focusing on the "problems" of parenting and relationships--and this book is very much about solutions for couples, which I found refreshing and helpful. The underlying premise of the book is to be intentional in our parenting roles and make your kids a priority without sacrificing women's identities or trapping men in breadwinner roles. This author does this without being overly political or preachy and uses humor, interviews with lots of other women, and her own personal story in an effective way. But best are the plethora of tools--discussion questions, exercises, and lists of housework and childcare duties--so that you can pick and choose what you and your partner need to work on. It's a powerful idea and book, no matter what your parenting choices are.

good writing despite bad logic and plot holes.......2004-09-26
I'm giving Blaze 113, Kiss & Tell: Just Between Us, the third in a series by the brilliantly sassy husband and wife writing team of "Tori Carrington" four stars. The Carringtons generally get five stars from me; they are just that strong of writers. Only, strong writing is not the problem with this book. It's the third and last in the series - and maybe thankfully - because it shows the series being stretched to make that third book and really "thin" on plot because of it. To the Carrington's writing credit that pushes the limit of hot, once again, the sassy prose grabs the readers and keeps them reading despite the really shaking premise.
In the first two books, Night Fever: Kiss & Tell, Harlequin Blaze, 105 and Flavor Of The Month: Kiss & Tell Harlequin Blaze, 109) we've met four very close friends, Leyla, Reilly, Mallory and Jack. Since all three women had wanted to jump sexy Jackson Daniel's bones, they make a pact none of them shall. Fine. But for that to be the crux of a conflict, they needed to make it the FIRST story in the series - not the last! In Night Fever, Leyla the doctor gets engaged and Reilly coffee shop/ice cream shop owner and Ben, owner of an up and coming restaurant do their story in Flavor of the Month. This leaves Mallory, the budding documentary producer, and Jack - we have little idea what he does other than writes a column for a paper - to do their turn. However, by doing this story last - they pull props right out from under the whole premise. WHY should Leyla who now has Sam, and Reilly who now has Ben, care if Mallory and Jack are doing the "wild thing"? Jack wants to tell them they have been involved from the very start, Mallory prefers to keep hiding it from her "good" friends.
These are friends to whom you tell everything. These very friends pitch in and give Mallory a small fortune to finish her documentary, yet she has been lying to them for years and prefers to KEEP lying to them? To compound errors in plotting, The "great friends" have been so close, sharing every woe, every success, yet Mallory (while jumping Jack at every chance she gets) know absolutely nothing about Jack and is content with that. It's only after Jack demands they tell their other two friends, and threatens to cut off the sex, that Mallory stops and wonders how Jack spends his time when he is not in her bed (we are talking over three years here).
The issue of Mallory "dating" Jack would've only been a bone of contention amongst the three women, when they were ALL single and all had yearnings for Jack. Now the other two are paired off, why should it be a problem Jack and Malloy should have to hide their romance? How can four friends be their little bastion against the world and not care more about each other to notice Jack and Mallory were "doing it"? Sorry, a man and woman involved sexually cannot hide it! Small responses toward each other send off signals. If they had made this the lead book, when all three women were lusting after Jack, then the premise would have worked. It would have also made the fact these so-called devoted friends knew so damn little about each other. Of course, I don't put the whole blame on them. Where was the editor? Their editor should have seen this problem coming front point one.
The Carrington's strength in their books is their sizzling writing. The dynamic duo is right on target there. They are daring, sassy, saucy - everything you expect from this writing team. I enjoyed the first two books very much, so I was able to continue reading the last in the series despite it has such a week, shaky and out-of-order plot. Lori and Tony seemed to define the Blaze line, for their story blazes...
It just would've been so much more believable had they put this book at the front of the trio of tales where it would've made more sense. So, just go with the flow, suspend questions and enjoy the talented writing teams magic antics. People reading the other two will enjoy this book more and be willing to ignore the gaping holes in logic. A person not having read the "Carringtons" before, would be advised skip this one and start with one of their others first.
hot hot hot.......2004-03-28
the chemistry between Mallory and Jack is white hot. The no sex vow was broken within days. I liked the way that they played it cool in front of the other friends. If you like white hot Passion then this is the book for you .It is the last one in Mrs.Carrington's Kiss and Tell series and this one is the most romantic one of all of them.
enjoy it.
Get a new proof-reader, please!.......2004-02-29
I was really looking forward to reading this book having enjoyed this author's, a wife and husband team, before. I was distracted from an enjoyable story by really poor editing/proofing. Some things were annoying like the heroine Mallory having her nickname spelled Mall like a shopping mall. Some errors were bothersome like grammatical ones with incorrect tense. Some were hillarious like the word subversive, used in reference to sexual play, when hopefully they meant submissive. Other than these blunders the story was cute, Jack really sexy, Mallory feisty in standard romantic form. Just, please, get a better proofreader next time.
A Great Series for Blaze.......2004-01-12
I have been faithfully reading the Kiss & Tell series by Tori Carrington. I really got involved into the lives of the characters, feeling like I knew them as well as my friends.
It is about a quartet of three women and one man, who met for the first time in LA and became fast friends. They have been together through thick and thin, and the only agreement was that they would not sleep with Jack, the male friend.
JUST BETWEEN US...the final book and features the last two friends, Jack and Mallory. We learn that it didnýt take long for the ýno sexý vow to be broken, and that these two have been having a torrid on and off affair for years. Neither wants commitment....or do they? Jack wants more than an occasional one night stand but will he convince Mallory she is his for life? Interwoven within the romance is a bit of a mystery. Mallory is working on a documentary involving a long ago murder mystery, but it is just a background to the romance, and hot bedroom action. It all gets tidied up in the end, and you get to see more of the characters from the first two books.(NIGHT FEVER and FLAVOR OF THE MONTH) It was fast, funny and just the story to warm me up on cold nights.
If you like your romance hot and burning the sheets, with a little mystery and lots of romance, then pick up JUST BETWEEN US...
amusing torrid romance.......2003-12-26
When Mallory Woodruff, Layla Hollister, Reilly Chudowski, and newspaper columnist Jack Daniels (no comment needed) became best friends, they agreed the one male was off-limits. However, Mallory and Jack stilled ended up in bed together that very night the pact was struck. Since then Mallory and Jack have been a hot item, but serendipitously hide their affair from their two buddies.
Newspaper columnist Jack is tired of hiding how he feels towards Mallory. He knows he risks a lot as the sex is great and he loves her, but he needs their relationship to come out of dark bedrooms and into the light of friends. However, documentary director Mallory feels otherwise as she is contented with an illicit relationship that does not interfere with her friendships and her career while providing great sex. Jack and Mallory still generate more heat in Southern California than the sun, but are they heading to a supernova over whether to come out or not?
JUST BETWEEN US fans of Team Carrington, this is an amusing torrid romance that burns up the sheets (of the novel as much as the boudoir). Mallory is an intriguing protagonist who feels commitment to the man she loves that she fears will cost her commitment to the career that means everything. Jack is heroic as he plays cat and mouse with his phobic beloved to show there is room for a permanent duet helping each other achieves their best artistic endeavor. This is another winner from one of the best writers of the sexy romance.

A Delicious Treat!.......2006-12-08
"A Recipe for Romance" is one of four novellas in the book "Kiss the (Cook) Bride." An apron connects all four stories adding a fun twist.
Our story starts when Haley Tannehill's brother asks her to email an old school buddy; Scott Jantzen. Haley and Scott exchange emails and a friendship forms. Meanwhile Haley is put in the awkward position of taking over, The Cowpoke Café, the family restaurant she grew up despising.
When Scott returns home from the Middle East, Haley hires him to help her renovate the neon, cowboy boot blinking restaurant, into something a little more modern. As Haley spends more time with Scott, his witness and devotion to his heavenly father, makes Haley realizes she has more missing in her life then an updated restaurant.
At the end of Ms. McDonough's book is a recipe for "Aunt Mildred's Icebox Cake". It made a wonderful addition to my Thanksgiving dinner and has a surprisingly nice tart and nutty flavor. And really, there is no better way to enjoy a good book then having a great dessert to go with it!
Refreshing, upbeat and clever!.......2006-10-14

"Kiss the Bride" is a compilation of four contemporary romances written by four different authors, but all are intertwined. Four young women become fast friends at the National Restaurateurs' Convention in Dallas, Texas, when the hotel elevator gets stuck. Angel, Haley, Allison and Monica learn they have several things in common besides all attending the same convention and being in the restaurant business. All the young women are single and have high hopes of meeting Mr. Right in the not-too-distant future. In varying degrees, the young women trust God and know he has a plan for each of their lives. All the women vow to remain friends and to reunite at the next convention. Will any of them be able to share success stories of finding Mr. Right?
"Angel Food" and the Epilogue is written by Kristy Dykes and tells the story of Angel Morgan and her struggle to find patrons at her new restaurant, the Rue de France in the small town of Nine Cloud, Florida. "Just Desserts" by Aisha Ford tells the story of Monica Ryan and her family-owned business in Missouri called The Pie Rack. A "Recipe for Romance" by Vickie McDonald finds Haley Tannehill in Tulsa, Oklahoma, as a hostess at her brother's restaurant called Tannehills and working at her parent's business, The Cowpoke Café. And "Tea for Two" by Carrie Turansky tells of Allison Bennett and her sister who are opening Sweet Something Tea Shop in Princeton, New Jersey.
Since all the stories have food and a restaurant as common traits, we find that each story shares with the reader a special dessert that in some way has brought success for its preparer. Each dessert is known in that particular story for its popularity and "heavenly" taste. At the end of each story, the recipe is included for the reader to try at home. Being able to prepare a dessert that we have just read so much about makes the reader feel a greater connection to the story.
"Kiss the Bride" is refreshing, upbeat, and clever. Four authors were able to put their talents together and show their individuality, but they also successfully show their ability to work together as a team. The common thread of a special traveling apron, purchased at the convention and then passed along to all the women, appears in each story. The authors obviously worked together to bond this element among the four stories. If you like Christian romance and cooking, you should thoroughly enjoy this compilation. I highly recommend this book!
A fun romantic read.......2006-10-10
This novella starts with a very fun premise~ a Kiss the Cook apron passed between friends~ and provides four stories about female restaurateurs falling in love.
Each story provides a unique perspective from love interests with competing restaurants to military romance budding long-distance and ending with a story of suspense, humor, and a great takeaway about forgiveness. A favorite feature is the yummy recipes provided with each story.

"I know you are but what am I?"
Misandry abounds and [...] envy persists as these sophomoric and pathetic "authors" live out their fantasies in the petty pursuit known as revenge, the prime endeavor of all things small and pedantic. In an attempt to push mature and secure women back into the stone-age of dependency, mind-boggling immaturity and fixed insecurities, this book perpetuates a stereotype many have fought valiantly and wisely to put to rest.
You go girl! No, really, go away. Leave, and please be careful not to let the door. . .
While similarly-minded middle school girls may be titillated by stories of literary retorts, most of us grown-ups hold the hope that eventually these aforementioned "women" of arrested development will eventually grow up and dare to grasp the notion that you can only reap what you chose to sow. If someone is treating you like a jerk, there's a good chance they have a reason: your behaviors.
Um, you're looking in the wrong direction.
For anyone who feels the need to place this book on their shelves, your money would be better spent on a good quality plate glass mirror that may reveal the true and costly nature of your resentments.

what?.......2004-01-11
This is really not what I expected. WHY?
1) Letters were really immature
2) So for little kids
3) Kiss off Letters to MEN?? Should be Letters to BOYS
Yes, it's sort of funny but there were nothing particulary so great/new about this book or anything particularly "wow"!

Dogs and babies, old men, lovers, parents and children -- some of the most moving kisses ever recorded on film are here. Tom Robbins writes in the introduction: "No kiss is ever wasted, not even on the winless l0ttery ticket kissed for luck. Kiss trees. Favorite books. Bowling balls. Old Jews sometimes kiss their bread before eating it, and those are good kisses too. The best kisses, though, are those between lovers, because those are the consequential ones, the risky ones, the transformative ones, the ones that call the nymphs and satyrs back to life, the many-layered kisses that we dive into as into a fairy-tale frog pond or the warm whirlpool of our origins."
Book Description
Many of the greatest photographers of all time have had special fondness for the sight of a kiss. After all, "kissing is the glory of the human species," says Tom Robbins in his introduction to A Kiss Is Just a Kiss. Here, in sixty memorable and delightful photographs by some of the all-time greats, including Kertesz, Doisneau, Cartier-Bresson, Eisenstaedt, and Weegee, is an affectionate and eye-catching celebration of one of life's great pleasures. An exuberant tribute to the most precious gift we can give each other, A Kiss Is Just a Kiss is a book to be treasured by lovers of every persuasion.

Famous photographic kisses of the 20th century.......2006-09-09
This is not a narrow-minded boy kisses girl tribute to heterosexual romance although there are lots of pictures like that. The book contains 60 black and white pictures that span the 20th century from 1915 to 1988. In addition to the heterosexual romantic kiss there are men kissing men, women kissing women, people kissing animals, animals kissing people and other animals, children kissing each other, adults kissing children, people kissing statues, statues kissing statues, kissing in the foreground, kissing in the background, and even a person kissing the pope's ring.
Each picture has the photographer's name beneath it and a list at the end of the book lists the photographer, the title, the date, and the owner of each photo. Two are from before the 1920s, three are from the 1920s and 30s, eight are from the 1940s, nine are from the 1950s, five from the 1960s, eleven from the 1970s, and 12 are from the 1980s. Ten have no dates associated with them.
These are famous photographic kisses. Included are William Mortensen's The Kiss, Robert Doisneau's Le Baiser de l'Hotel de Ville, Dennis Stock's Cafe de Flore, Weegee's Palace Theater, an untitled kiss by Elliott Erwitt, Louis Stettner's On a Dutch Ferry, and Alfred Eisenstaedt's Times Square VJ Day,
There are also pictures by Peter Marlow, Bruce Davidson, Joan E. Biren (JEB), Chris Steele-Perkins, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Leonard Freed, André Kertész, Burt Glinn, Mary Ellen Mark, Ernst Haas, Barbara Crane, Gilles Peress, Lou Stoumen, Josef Koudelka, and Sage Sohier and many others.
Combine this with a delightful essay on the history and importance of kissing by Tom Robbins and you have a great book. It would make a wonderful gift for a lover or a friend. Buy one for yourself and be inspired.

Very Nice Read.......2004-10-24
JUST KISS ME by Kathleen O'Reilly, Tempt #889
I enjoy the writing of the Temptations more and I tend to buy more of that series now in addition to my favorite Harlequin Presents. JUST KISS ME is bascially about opposites attract. A straight lace, neat freak, workaholic female lawyer who wants to walk on the wild side with a rough around the edges bad boy Airplane Mechanic. This story was more of a romantic comedy with some pretty funny lines. My most memberable moment, however, is this really hot steamy love scene during a New York City subway ride, in a crowded train in broad day light. It was hard to imagine nobody on the train not noticing the heroine enjoying her.........ahem ........moment when she wanted to scream on top of her lungs!
Funny, sexy and poignant story of an unlikely couple.......2003-05-11
My first introduction to Ms O'Reilly's work was her (so far only) historical "Touched by Fire" which I absolutely adored! The author has a knack for creating likeable leads that you really care about and displays a lot of humour in her stories.
Dr Avery Barrington III simply takes it for granted that he and lawyer Amanda Sedgewick belong together and will marry someday - much to Amanda's consternation! Fond as she is of Avery, he's just not what she's looking for. Though they're both well-educated, successful professionals, she yearns to break out of her proper, dull world. And when all attempts to let Avery down easy fail (he just doesn't get it!) she resorts to deception. She ropes Avery's younger brother Joe into a "pretend" relationship - all the while hoping it will become all too real since Joe is really hot and a fling with him could be lots of fun!
Joseph Matthias Barrington has always felt like second-best next to Avery. He never got into the posh private schools or worked toward a professional career. Instead he's gone his own way and is now an airline mechanic. He always figured Amanda and Avery made the perfect couple, with so much in common. So when Amanda recruits him for her plan, he initially balks. Not until he is convinced that Amanda is sincere and Avery really is oblivious does he reluctantly agree to participate. The forced intimacy of pretending to date starts to awaken confused feelings and a strong sexual attraction between Joe and Amanda. But Joe feels Amanda is way out of his league - she's on the fast track to a partnership. He figures he'll never measure up, so why try? His feelings of inadequacy will touch your heart. But should Amanda feel guilty about being successful? Is there anyway for these two make it work?
An enjoyable, often funny and poignant story of a couple struggling with career, income and lifestyle issues that could tear any couple apart. I know Ms O'Reilly has more contemporaries on the way, which I welcome, but I also hope that there are also more historicals in her future - which seems awfully bright!
Kathleen O'Reilly knows how to write a sexy book!.......2002-08-16
Amanda Sedgewick likes Avery Barrington, but she doesn't love him. But for as long as she can remember, Avery has assumed that they would get married and have a family together, even though Amanda has tried to tell him that it isn't going to happen. She is desperate as nothing she does seems to discourage Avery, and she begs Avery's brother Joe to help. She thinks that Avery will finally back away from her if his brother is the other man. Amanda is also attracted to Joe, and is hoping if they spend some time together, he will return her feelings and they can have an affair.
Joe doesn't want to step into his brother's territory with the ultra-perfect Amanda. He thinks that Amanda and Avery make the perfect couple. But when he realizes that Amanda truly isn't interested and Avery doesn't understand that, Joe decides to play the knight and rescue her. He has no intentions of falling for Amanda, but their forced closeness as they play pretend boyfriend/girlfriend, has Joe realizing that he wants to do more than pretend.
Kathleen O'Reilly knows how to pen sexual tension. The pages practically vibrate with Joe's and Amanda's sexual energy. I loved this story-two people learning about who they really are by falling in love with the person they least expect to. This was one of those perfect reads. I look forward to many more books from Ms. O'Reilly.
Fiery, daring and often humorous -- Very highly recommended.......2002-08-06
Amanda Sedgewick enlists Joe Barrington's aid to dissuade his brother Avery. For twenty-one years Avery has assumed that he and Amanda will wind up together and refuses to believe her blatant discouragement. So Amanda hopes that involvement with younger brother Joe will send Avery packing, and perhaps lead to a bit of wild fun. After all, Amanda is not looking for a commitment, although a passionate affair with Joe would certainly fill her fantasies.
Amanda's cool looks have never caught Joe's eye. He likes his women hot and passionate. But her harebrained scheme regarding brother Avery replaces his misconceptions with expectations that exceed his wildest fantasies. Suddenly he finds himself swept away by her playful sensuality, inspired to become more than just Dr Avery Barrington's airline mechanic younger brother. Unfortunately, that inspiration can also lead to his downfall.
A message on a cocktail napkin transforms lives in Kathleen O'Reilly's newest romance JUST KISS ME. But don't let lively romantic romp fool you; O'Reilly understands the insecurities created by conflicting careers and lifestyles. The strength of this fabulous tale is its confrontation with contemporary challenges and values, and its ability to find a resolution without compromising the strengths of the characters. On one hand, Joe's determination to blaze his own path flags when he does not believe he is worthy of a wealthy lawyer on the fast track to partnership. On the other hand, Amanda treasures the spontaneity and freshness Joe brings to her life, loosening her inhibitions and allowing her to reevaluate priorities. Together their romance is fiery, daring and often humorous. Readers will be watching for a sequel as the proper brother Avery seeks his path to love. Very highly recommended.
