Book Description
A Different Kind of Sister Act
Patricia Anne -- "Mouse" -- is respectful, respectable, and demure, a perfect example of genteel Southern womanhood. Mary Alice -- "Sister" -- is big, brassy, flamboyant, and bold. Together they have a knack for finding themselves in the center of some of Birmingham's most unfortunate unpleasantness.
Country Western is red hot these days, so overimpulsive Mary Alice thinks it makes perfect sense to buy the Skoot 'n' Boot bar -- since that's where the many-times-divorced "Sister" and her boyfriend du jour like to hang out anyway. Sensible retired schoolteacher Patricia Anne is inclined to disagree -- especially when they find a strangled and stabbed dead body dangling in the pub's wishing well. The sheriff has some questions for Mouse and her sister Sister, who were the last people, besides the murderer, of course, to see the ill-fated victim alive. And they had better come up with some answers soon -- because a killer with unfinished business has begun sending them some mighty threatening messages...

Murder on a Girl's Night Out.......2007-07-15
Anne George's characters are so real. These two sisters are so entertaining and have their own relationship norms. I cannot say that at any time am I bored while reading about their adventures or just their interactions. This series is one of my very favorite reads - I don't have to worry about blood, gore or profanity - these stories can stand on their own without resorting to the quick, gory, or bloody fill-ins.
Not For Me.......2006-11-04
I was looking for a new "series" of books to be interested in when I ordered 2 of the Southern Sisters mysteries. I should have known better than to order just on reviews; I should have checked at the library first. I only read this one, and have donated both to the local seniors group. I am an insatiable reader, and devour a wide variety. My favorite authors of fiction are James Clavell, Tim Clancy, Nora Roberts, Laurell K Hamilton, Anne Rice, James Patterson and Janet Evanovich. If these are on your list of favorites, my advice is "try before you buy"; this series is a little simplistic for my taste.
Great book--Great series!!.......2006-10-30
I purchased this book because I had read the second in the series previously and was very entertained. "Girls Night Out" did not disappoint. The characters are vibrant and the story line is easy to follow but not as easy to predict. If you like a "funny" murder mystery this series is for you!
Deadly Doings in Dixie.......2006-10-03
Patricia Anne and Mary Alice are sisters but there the similarities end. Patricia Anne (Mouse) is a sixty-year old retired schoolteacher who has been married to the same man (Fred) for forty years and she weighs one hundred and five pounds soaking wet. Mary Alice (Sister, Aunt Sister to Mouse's children) is sixty-five, weighs two hundred and fifty pounds and has outlived three husbands. Mouse is well grounded, tries to eat a healthy diet and always votes Democratic. Sister is flighty, claims that Mouse doesn't eat enough and always votes Republican. The fertile mind of Anne George dreamed up this pair, put them in position to solve a mystery and neither Alabama or the mystery world will ever be the same again.
Sister and her boyfriend Bill are into line dancing and when the owner of their favorite honky-tonk decides to sell Mary Alice decides to buy. The day after the sale closes however the former owner is found dead in the bar's wishing well and from then on Sister's investment is jinxed. The sisters don't really set out to catch the killer but instead are trying to help a former student of Patricia Anne's who is a suspect in the crime. The more they delve into matters though the deeper they find themselves and before it is all said and done one of the sisters finds herself on the wrong end of a gun. Since this is the first book in the series it is easy to assume that the endangered sister survives but you'll never guess who saves the day.
As with most cozy mysteries the characters tend to overshadow the plot and the hero figures don't actually solve anything but just sort of blunder into the solution. The characters are so much fun though that you will hardly notice when the plot happens to disappear. Seldom does a book like this make me laugh out loud but this one did the trick and the plot held just strongly enough to make me rush toward the end once I approached the climax of the mystery. As a born and raised Southerner I could clearly visualize these two and could actually identify them with several of my own family members, right down to the double first names. So pour yourself a nice glass of sweet tea and settle down on the veranda for an unforgettable visit with these two Southern ladies extraordinaire.
THE SOUTHERN SISTERS SERIES IS THE BEST AND YOU SHOULD NOT MISS THESE EIGHT BOOKS.......2006-09-25
OK, OK, I am reviewing all eight books in this one sitting! Anne George wrote a series WINNER with these eight books. You need to read them in order and they are as such --
MURDER ON A GIRLS NIGHT OUT
MURDER ON A BAD HAIR DAY
MURDER RUNS IN THE FAMILY
MURDER MAKES WAVES
MURDER GETS A LIFE
MURDER SHOOTS THE BULL
MURDER CARRIES A TORCH
MURDER BOOGIES WITH ELVIS
I have lent these books out to so many friends/family that they are in need of repair. These books should be read in the above order.
Unfortunately, Anne George has passed on, so this is it for this series. You will LOVE every single book. The main characters are two sisters who could not be more different than day and night. Mary Alice weighs two hundred pounds and the word flamboyant does not even begin to describe her. People who know and love her call her Sister. She is loud, border-line obnoxious, and into getting married - over and over again. She is someone you would adore in real life.
Her sister, Patricia Anne, is a retired school teacher and the more serious of the two women. She is lovingly known as Mouse. She has been in a steady marriage for years, has grown children, and is the more sensible of the two. You will love them both. The books are set in Alabama, so the books are full of Southern flair and charm. The characters in each book are funny, sad, sweet, nasty -- you will meet a whole cast of characters in each book.
I cannot emphasize enough how much you should treat yourself to these eight books!
Each book deals with a murder mystery that these two senior girls just seem to keep falling into. I know, I know, the titles sound hokey and so does the preface of the books, but they are WONDERFUL. I read all eight of them in a row and was sad to see them come to an end.
Each book deals with another mystery and caper. The trouble these two old ladies get into! The laughs are there, and they will have you laughing out loud. The mystery is just that -- mystery. You will not know which way the book is headed. Each book is full of surprises and keeps your attention the entire length of the book.
Get this entire series and set yourself down. Enjoy!
Thank you! Pam

Perfect for your next girls' night in.......2007-01-02
Girls' Night Out is a collaboration effort from some of the biggest names in chick lit with proceeds to benefit War Child, an organization dedicated to easing the suffering of children around the world. The editors of this book have long-since had a similar effort organized in England with many British chick lit authors contributing, and this is the second effort in the American version of the series. The previous novel, Girls' Night In, was released in 2004 and included many of the same authors.
If you like chick lit, this is your chance to get samplings from many of your favorite authors in one convenient package and to help out a good cause while you're at it.
A couple of my favorite stories in the anthology are:
A Thing of Beauty by Emily Giffin
In this story, by-the-books actuary Kate stops living her ordinary life when her numerologist/manicurist Betty suggests that she needs to make some changes. On Betty's advice, Kate cuts off her long hair, breaks up with her long-time boyfriend, and quits her respectable job as an actuary. Instead, she takes a job at a flower shop, and decides to rethink her previously well-ordered life.
I thought this story was fun and lighthearted while at the same time reminding you to take stock of your life and make sure you're living it the way you want to. Kate takes a chance, and winds up with valuable experiences that she'd never have had if she'd just kept living her ordinary life without thinking there might be something more out there for her. Emily Giffin is one of my favorite authors and her books Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and Baby Proof are definitely worth checking out if you have never read her work before.
A Little Bit Broken by Sarah Mlynowski
When her husband of six month confesses to her that he's had an affair, Jessie has no idea how to react. The idea that someone she trusted and thought she knew so well could treat her so badly doesn't sit well with her and she has to make a decision about whether or not she can forgive this indiscretion.
This story is probably my favorite in the entire anthology because it resonates with truth from start to finish. It's difficult to know whether or not you can put back together something that may be irreparably broken and the fact that their marriage is so new makes it especially difficult in this story. Mlynowski is also one of the editors of the book and I'd never heard of her before I picked it up. I'll be sure to check out her work in the future.
Overall, Girls' Night Out is a great way to get a little something from some of your favorite chick lit authors who might not put out work as often as you'd like them to, and also a great way to get an introduction to some new ones. Another story I really liked was by Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, titled The Corruption of Father Scott, and involves a television producer who is tasked with finding the sexiest Catholic priest in the country to become the next Dr. Phil. I'd never heard of Valdes-Rodriguez before but I enjoyed the story so much I went out and bought one of her books.
Girls' Night Out has got stories that range from humorous and lighthearted to somber and thought-provoking. It would definitely be perfect for your next night in.
Wonderful!.......2006-07-21
I absolutely loved this book! I loved the premise of the short stories by fabulous authors. "Girls' Night Out" introduced me to so many new "chick-lit" authors. After reading the book I had to run out and get "Girls' Night In."
Great read.......2006-07-12
I'm about 6 stories in and so far, it's great. I picked up both Girls Night In and Girls Night Out in hopes of finding more authors to read, and I've definitely found them! I can't wait to finish both books!
Fantastic Book filled with GREAT AUTHORS!.......2006-06-06
What a compilation of fantastic writers! This book is filled with stories from Meg Cabot, Cecelia Ahern, Marian Keyes, Laura Caldwell, Sarah Mlynowski and Carole Matthews, to name a few. Each story is a wonderful trip into the interesting lives of very diffent women. You will find yourself savoring each story so as not to finish the book too quickly. You will also discover new authors and new voices. A great read for the beach, the cabin, the pool or the train to work. (In other words, a great book for ANYTIME!)
Girls' Night Out.......2006-06-02
A host of authors have come together to produce another anthology benefitting Operation War Child. This alone makes the book worth purchasing. Beyond that, several of the entries are truly enjoyable. Dog Lover will definitely give you more than one chuckle, while Wishing Carefully or A Thing of Beauty will give you smiles of a more profound nature. There are some stories that just won't be for you, but the few gems and the good cause combined should make this one to think about.

Book Description
In Thisbe Nissen's award-winning debut story collection, characters teeter on the verge of love, of life, of oncoming cataclysms after which Things Will Never Be the Same. Against the varied backdrops of Grateful Dead shows, anniversary parties, sickrooms, and bright Manhattan vestibules, Nissen traces the joy, terror, and electric surprise that flash between people as they suddenly connect. A fifteen-year-old girl whose mother is slowly dying finds solace in the bed of her best friend's older brother. A wife remembers the early romance in her marriage as she watches her husband's hand, shaky with Parkinson's, lift a bite of food to his mouth. Longtime friends are jolted by their unforeseen attraction to each other; new lovers feel their way by instinct in vans, on futons, an during risky, late-night conversation. Knowing, often hilarious, and always pitch-perfect, Nissen's tales hang inside those moments when the heart is acting and the head is watching, hopeful that the heart is doing the right thing.

Sharp, Sweet, Stealthy.......2004-10-14
I don't know why I waited so long to read this stellar collection. I agree with the other reviewers--the very best selections might be "Flowers in the Dustbin" and "Grog" and "Poison in the Human Machine," and of course the title story, but they're all good with moments or lines that are amazing. There is geniune emotion in Nissen's stories, and geniune insight in girls growing up, which is what I look for and hope for but rarely ever find. I haven't enjoyed a book so much since Jennifer Paddock's novel, A SECRET WORD, came out in the spring. It's that good! I couldn't recommend OUT OF THE GIRLS' ROOM AND INTO THE NIGHT more highly.
Another Iowa success story.......2004-06-03
Being a student at The University of Iowa, where the author attended the number one writers workshop in the nation, I know her ability. This collection is so real and relatable. The stories paint beautiful pictures of what life is like. If you want to read something real with great language and presence this is it!
Wonderful.......2004-05-23
Very believable, original, emotionally-evocotive work. As I read these stories I feel admiration for the author's sensitivity, deep life-awareness and skillful use of language to convey her characters and their situations. They are jammed with aliveness and flavour. Very enjoyable.
Beautiful and disarming collection of short stories!.......2004-04-28
Out of the Girls' Room and Into the Night has several of the most memorable short stories I've read as of late. This collection of quirky and disarming stories is thought provoking and disturbing at times. The ones that touched me the most were the ones centered on eating disorders, infidelity and death. "Grog," "The Mushroom Girl," "Flowers in the Dustbin, Poison in the Human Machine," and "Accidental Love" are my favorites. The aforementioned stories spoke to me. Are you in the bargain for a literary short story collection centered on women? I suggest you pick up this gem!
exceptional.......2003-08-05
This book was very good, but I didn't write a review to praise this book, only to coreect "Tiara"'s misconception. Gwynne doesn't end up with Donovan because of alcohol. Do you know why she had to tell herself, "I can do this, I can do this . . ." She is a lesbian who is in love with her best friend, and she feels betrayed when Darcy hooks up with a guy. Gwynne obviously isn't ready to tell Darcy how she feels, so when Darcy hooks up with Donovan's best friend--Gwynne decides to play it straight, so to speak. I missed this the first time I read it, along with other themes in some of the other stories.
Book Description
"This is my family away from family."
"We have supported each other through huge life transitions."
"This group has turned me on to more interesting things in this world, in this life, than anyone else."
These are the inspiring words of women who have enjoyed the power and emotional support of a women's group.
Girls' Night Out celebrates this vibrant and growing phenomenon in women's lives through moving words and pictures that tell the uplifting stories of a spectacularly diverse set of groups from all across America. "As we have traveled around the United States," write Tamara Kreinin and Barbara Camens, "we have witnessed an explosive interest among women in making enduring connections with other women, not simply through friendships, but through groups. They bring intellectual empowerment; they're a source of celebration and comfort; and they encourage a unique freedom of expression."
In
Girls' Night Out you will meet women of all ages who have come together to create the special bond only a long-standing group can offer, from the adventurous African-American motorcyclists who share exciting rides, to the artists who hold group shows of their artwork, to the twenty-something career women who meet regularly to play mah-jongg and vent about work. One group of women in their seventies and eighties has been meeting for more than fifty years!
Each chapter captures the essence of a group, recounting the story of how they first got together: "We began as a result of need," says Elizabeth of the Tea Group in Boston—"I felt like there was nowhere for me to speak"; how they weather hard times, rallying to support one another: "We act like coaches for one another" says Suzie of the Bridgies in Needham, Massachusetts; and how they celebrate joyful life events together: "When my husband and I decided to get married," recalls Lisa of the Fabulous Group in Oakland, California, "I asked these women to walk me down the aisle." Each group has played a vital role in the lives of its members and offers a remarkably rich source of personal support and enduring friendship. "Now I know I will never be lonely," declares Nancy of the Network in the Hudson River Valley, New York. In an inspiring concluding chapter, the authors—who are both long-standing members of women's groups themselves—offer a wealth of practical tips on how to start a successful women's group of your own.
This unique celebration makes a wonderful gift to pass on to your sisters, neighbors, close friends, and female colleagues. Or, if you're already a member of a women's group, this is the perfect book to share with your fellow members, as inspiration to reflect upon your own group's history and cherished memories.

The Power of Women's Friendships.......2005-05-30
What a heart-warming book! This book is filled with stories of women's groups - usually smaller than ten members - who meet periodically for an all-purpose support group for each other. So uplifting!
Started my own group!.......2005-01-27
After reading up on various types of groups for a couple of years (salons, book/movie clubs, activism groups, networking circles, cooking clubs, etc.), I decided that I wanted to be in an eclectic group focusing on forming lasting friendships first and foremost through varied activities.
The same night that I announced this to my great friend with whom I had been discussing this idea with for some months, we went to the bookstore after dinner and drinks and the very first book that I saw was this one!
I bought it, read it hungrily, and decided that this was a sign: time for me to start that group!
I read the stories of the various groups covered in this book and picked up a lot of ideas for activities. I was also moved by the stories of all these women, it is beautiful to see how important these friendships have become in their lives.
The practical information at the end of the book was very useful too, it helped me to plan the launch of my own group.
Some of the topics covered at the end of the book:
- Should you join an existing group or start your own?
- Finding a co-creator
- Choosing people to invite
- Accepting new members or not once the group is formed
- Considering the size of the group
- How to start the group (tips for first meetings)
- Suggestions for activities
- How will the group function? (tips on decision making, having set "rituals" or a check-in, leadership, organization, having a mailing list, getting involved with the community, etc.)
I looked up sources for second hand or cheaper books online (www.abebooks.com is the best source, in my opinion) and bought a copy for each of the women that I had invited to get them inspired and excited about participating. I even got lucky and received a copy that had been signed by both authors!
Every woman that I invited (8, so we're 9 in all, including myself) answered yes. This is a good number because if a woman or two leaves the group after a few months, we'll still be enough to have an interesting group going.
Our first meeting was a tiki themed party! We had tons of luau-style food, decorations, leis and flowers to decorate our hair with, and even grown-up versions of party favor bags. We played 2 truths and 1 lie to get to know each other (we each said 2 true things and 1 false thing about ourselves, and whoever guessed the lie was able to go choose a small tiki or woman-themed prize).
On our private Yahoogroups.com mailing list, the women all sent glowing messages after the meeting, it was a smash! I can't wait for our next meeting, and neither can they!
If you want to try new things and to discover what your city has to offer in the company of friends, to make new connections and establish lasting friendships, read this book then start thinking about whom you could invite (I invited some friends and some women that I had only met once or twice but wanted to get to know better). I know that it can be stressful to make the first steps, but chances are these women will be thrilled that you have thought about them too!
It's your life, you choose how you live it and what is in it. Wouldn't you like more friends, a "gang of gal pals" of your own? :)
Best of luck!
an inspirational read.......2004-11-17
I loved this book -- it's very inspiring and easy to read. It's comforting to hear about how groups of women enjoy, support and celebrate each other. The authors profile a rich diversity of groups: those who came together over politics, religion, movies, books, yoga, mah-jongg, even motorcycles. You can hear the individuality in each group's story through the real voices of their members. Reading GNO made me want to start a group of my own!
A great read/A great gift.......2003-12-18
I thorougly enjoyed this book!! I was a sceptic, but was so moved by the personal stories of all of these different types of women from different places on the American landscape. I felt I came to understand not only myself, but women from all different walks of life. You are taken deeply into each group's world, their struggles and their ways of making meaning. It's perfect for travel or night time reading because each chapter is a little gem that you can read, put down and then start a new chapter for a brand new experience. Let's face it we are all on the go whether we work at home with our kids or in an office. Seeing how other women not only manage, but thrive is a real gift.
Preaching to the Choir.......2003-11-13
There was nothing new, or of particular interest in this book.
Even the title is extremely misleading. It says "across America", but apparently America is limited to privately educated, liberal Jewish women in the Northeast and on the West coast. Even the picture on the cover reflects this.
If you fall into this particular demographic, then you will love this book. But to me it just seemed to be written by a couple of academics without any basis in the reality.
I would love to know more about the authors. But I can guess. It is easy to be idealistic when you are born with a silver spoon. The rest of us have to go out in the world and survive. No grants, no rich parents.
You can make a career out of grant writing. That is the academic's welfare system. But sometimes you have to step out of the ivory tower and experience the real world.
Real people are not theories or academic projects. "Woman's groups" represent a very narrow slice of the population. Traveling around and meeting these groups is very limiting. C'mon, these are all the same type of people. What do you learn when you go around and meet people just like you?
These two have to get in touch with the other 98% of the woman in this country. Then maybe they will have something of substance to say. This book is just fluff that will make their own privileged group feel warm and fuzzy.

Could not put it down..........2006-11-02
I got Party Girls in an airport bookstore, and pretty much read it before I returned home...Girls' Night Out was the same thing. It's hard to put down, because you want to know how every turns out. Very easy to love the caracters. Fun read with lots of twist and a great ending. Currently reading her other book Retail Therapy.
Summer Fun.......2003-08-29
This was the best summer read this year! Really hard to put it down - I love the way it makes fun of the reality TV thing, while taking you on some wild rides, and stays fun even though the characters end up being surprisingly deep. I could identify with all of the women and their situations. Really looking forward to her next book!
You go, girls!.......2003-08-24
Roz Bailey's new chicklit tops her first release with more comedy and a nice spin with the reality show angle. I swear, my old boss is profiled in this book! I was hooked from page one! It's a compelling view into three different women's lives, with more heart than most chicklits have. A fun read with a surprise ending -- sheer beach bliss!
Greeeeeeeeeeat Book!!!!.......2003-08-15
I picked this book up because I'm into reality TV shows. I thought this book was a lot of fun. And sexy! I'm looking forward to Ms. Bailey's next book. And I'm going to check out Party Girls (I'd never read her before this book)
FUN BOOK!!!.......2003-08-07
I read Roz Bailey's first novel, PARTY GIRLS, last summer and loved it. This one is just as good! I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!!!

Book Description
Seven friends get together for a girls' night out. As one story leads to another they begin to realise that there are only two things wrong with men: everything they say and everything they do. In twelve brilliantly funny short stories, Kathy Lette reveals the hilarious secrets women tell each other-when men aren't around. Tales that ring true to every woman who reads them.
Customer Reviews:
BIZARRE!!!.......2002-03-13
Okay, I've read "Altar Ego" and "Foetal Attraction" by Kathy Lette and I was expecting more of the same, but in short story format when I picked up this book. However, that was NOT what I got. Frankly, I'm not sure what I got. None of the stories remotely resembled the other two books of hers I've read. The stories range from a one-sided conversation with a washed-up soccer groupie to the diary of a teenager who runs away from home with her cat to live on a commune. The longest story in the book is the most interesting - the story of two girls and a guy living together in an abandoned house in the bad part of Sydney. (Yes, these stories take place in Australia.) I'm not sure if I can recommend this book even as a time-waster, though I did read it all the way through. (Granted, I was trapped at a convention booth with nothing to do for 8 hours.)

It's prom season once again, which translates to expensive dresses, finding the perfect date, and having the best time of your life. The prom is the perfect excuse for anyone to look their best, even though it may result in a little overspending. For Lisa Marie, Heather, and Marianna, it is all they can think about. It's the event of the school year and they want to make the best of it.
Marianna, the cross-country star, just received the best present ever when her crush, Luke, asked her out. Unfortunately, the only thing standing in their way is Marianna's controlling father, who watches her every move. But finally going out with the one person she really likes could lead to the perfect prom night...and maybe even a long-lasting relationship.
Lisa Marie has everything she's ever wanted; well, not exactly. Her longtime boyfriend dumped her two months before the prom. Which wasn't fair at all, since it--the breakup--was so close to prom and, well, she was going to dump him first. She has found the perfect prom dress, but she just doesn't have the cash to back it up. So now Lisa Marie gets a job at a Starbucks, since she is the "coffee queen," to pay for the dress. But with a new job comes a whole new batch of guys flirting with her. No sooner does Lisa Marie go from dateless to having multiple dates available to take her to the prom.
Heather isn't really feeling the whole prom thing and tries to avoid it but can't, since her two best friends keep on trying to find her a date. But the problem is her friends, and even Heather herself, do not know exactly what kind of date she wants. Turns out the only thing Heather can think about is her sexuality, which is completely confusing.
Will prom night, the event that they all have been waiting for, turn out to be too much to handle?
At first glance, MAKING OUT seems like any other novel about a high school prom. But it is far from regular. The first in the PROM NIGHT series, Megan Stine takes the prom and gives it a reality check. Every chapter is a different girls' perspective, letting readers truly see how each girl feels. This is a fast-paced read full of twists and turns until the very last page. Megan Stine takes some of the realistic situations of prom and turns them around to let readers discover some of the things that some teens do not seem to know about.

Dated, posed pictures.......2006-04-23
I was really disappointed by this book after reading the reviews. The pictures are dated, too posed, not genuine looking.
WOW!!.......2005-01-05
I just unwrapped my Christmas present to myself and WOW was I impressed. What a fun, playful, and honest look at lesbians - all colors, all forms (butch, femme, dyke,...). The pictures are beautiful - pure, simple, basic, - without excess clutter.
I have other books on featuring women, but none has matched the beauty as seen through the eyes of Chloe.
sexy.......2000-03-15
It is indeed a shame that this little gem has gone out of print...simple, wonderful, beautiful, erotic, funny, and sexy...all aptly describe the photography. So good you'll want to buy two.
This is what it's aboot.......2000-02-26
This is the best lesbian book ever. Though I was a mite confused. I always believed that a girl's night out involved going to CVS
Sparkling, sexy photography!.......1999-10-22
Wow! The joy expressed in Atkin's photographs of lesbians at play (in clubs, bars, etc.) is truly breathtaking to behold. I didn't think one could "re-read" a photography book this many times. Buy it, love it, sleep with it under your pillow.

Book Description
Imagine a girls' night out with Eija-Liisa Ahtila, Elina Brotherus, Dorit Cypis, Rineke Dijkstra, Katy Grannan, Sarah Jones, Kelly Nipper, Daniela Rossell, Shirana Shahbazi, and Salla Tykka. Imagine a very particular kind of girl talk, one that crisscrosses generations and nations, that openly and fluidly recognizes gender differences and sexual necessities, that delves deeply into psychology and lyricism. A conversation that's moved beyond challenging or critiquing feminist archetypes--but knows how it got to that point, thank you early feminism. The women artists represented in this catalogue create works that possess a quasi-documentary feel and a directness of approach, that engage such classical representational subjects as landscape, portraiture, and self-portraiture. They acknowledge their predecessors, the feminist photography, film, and performance artists of the 70s and 80s, but have moved on to confidently explore feminist identity, especially in the adolescent girl, and produce imagery that is compellingly, and resoundingly, uncertain and contradictory.
