Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Best of the series.......2007-10-03

I think that Eclipse is the best in the Twilight series. To me, Twilight dragged in the beginning and it took me a little while to get into it. New Moon was depressing most of the way through; I felt compelled to finish it just so that I could get to Eclipse. Eclipse peaked my interest from the first page to the last. I think Meyer is becoming a better writer. There is just something about these books that draws me in. With that said, I am a thirty something mom who thinks that the love story between Edward and Bella might be a little too mature for preteens and young teenagers. If you are a parent wondering if this is a book that you want your child to read, read chapter 20 yourself first and then decide.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!!!! =) Yet AGAIN!.......2007-10-03

Ilyana has done an amazing job once again! Beautifully read. And what an outstanding book!!! I had already read Eclipse when it first came out. (one sitting!!!) Stephenie is an enthralling writer. The emotion that comes from each character draws you in and you begin to think of them as real people. (don't we all wish! lol) I can not wait till the next book comes out. And chances are I''ll be getting it on CD as well! As with everything Stephenie writes, reading/hearing it once is never enough!

5 out of 5 stars Great progression.......2007-10-02

I really was happy with the progression of the books. I also felt that the writing and the continuity of the story improved with each book. It was clear that this story was well thought out, and developed. I am now hooked and excited for the next book! Anyone who loves Vampire novels, this is a good series to pick up. Fun characters and a new way of looking at the Vampire lifestyle.

5 out of 5 stars Wow!.......2007-10-02

Just as with the first books, I'm not a teen and I love these books. It's helped me see my wonderful husband in a different light and recognize the qualities I fell in love with. This is a great book for anyone! I've even got my husband starting them.

2 out of 5 stars I don't read the books for Jacob.......2007-10-01

I'm thinking of giving of this series because as much as I love a good triangle this book was just ridiculous. Since when is Jacob, the good natured friend, Bella's true soul mate? And since when is he so creepy and cocky about the whole thing? Edward needs to dump Bella and then maybe the writing can get back on track. I thought this story was supposed to be about Bella and Edward? I don't care about Jacob and now fans will always be thinking that Bella made the wrong choice. Very disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars touching, to say the least.......2007-09-21

This book brings me to tears at the very thought of it. I got about 1/2 way through the darling pictures and wonderful, sweet words and the tears started. By the time I finished I was a mess. I'm sure it will touch every mother who reads it-it is definitely a book for a baby girl or daughter since the pictures depict a mother/daughter relationship. It's about the simple memories we make with our children that mean more than anything. It's also about the dreams we hold for them. I now have a FAVORITE new book, one that will definitely be bought for others as well. Don't miss this one!

5 out of 5 stars made me cry.......2007-09-17

Takes you through birth-college-grandchildren-old age within a small book. As they say, kids grow up in the blink of an eye. Good for a pre-teen gift from mom to daugther. Very touching, probably how most moms feel about their daugthers.

5 out of 5 stars Sweet Story of the Mother-Child Bond.......2007-09-15

I picked up this book in my local Toys-R-Us as my daughter picked among the Princess titles. I was looking for something special for an expecting friend and found it immediately in this book.

The book reminded me a little of "I'll Love You Forever" and "The Giving Tree" as it explores the changing relationship, and bonds as a child grows to adulthood.

The final page, when the mother imagines her own child with silver strands of hair, remembering her (the mother) was enough to bring me to tears in the store.

A beautiful book, not to be missed, a wonderful gift for mother and baby (not to mention one more useful and long lasting than similarly adorable baby bathrobes!)

5 out of 5 stars Someday.......2007-09-14

Someday is a book that looks like a child's book but has an adult message. I gave one to each of our adult daughters. It has a beautiful message about the circle of life.

5 out of 5 stars It Made Her Cry - My Wife, Not My Daughter!.......2007-08-28

I bought this book without much thought. When I got it home I read it. I loved it. I gave it to my wife to give to my daughter (it is really a mother-to-daughter book) and knew she would love it. Yup, she barely got through it she was crying so much. I just hugged her for a few minutes and told her she should read it with my daughter a page at a time until she could get through it. Then she cried again. This is a book for a Mom that really loves being a Mom to a little girl. I'd rate it six stars if I could.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic.......2007-10-01

Have you read the first of this series... "TWILIGHT"? If you did, you probably did what I did... ran out and purchased "NEW MOON". I just received it and delved into it as soon as I opened the package. It's a wonderful continuation of "TWILIGHT". I'm not through yet, but I know at the end, I'll be just as anxious to get started on "ECLIPSE". NOTE: I started "TWILIGHT" because I was curious about what my niece was reading. (I always get the audio version because I do a lot of driving.)

5 out of 5 stars MY FAVORITE BOOK...EVER!!!.......2007-10-01

In the begining of the book everything seemed alright until Edward started acting strange.Bella knew something was wrong.Edward took her into the woods and told her he didn't love her anymore.Bella just sat in the rain for hours until the search party, that Charlie sent out, had found her. She was depressed for many months.Eventualy she startedto hang out with Jacob Black aka the werewolf. When Bella did something reckless her concious sounded like Edward, so she started doing more reckless stuff just to hear his voice.Alice had a vision of her jumping off a cliff and went to find Bella. Rosalie told Edward that Bella had killed herself and he went to Italy to find the Volturi.Edward wanted the Volturi to kill him.He planed ot walk into the most crowed place at noon. Alice and Bella hopped the first plane they could.Bella ran to EDward and reached him right before he steped into the sun light. The Volturi wanted to speak to edward ot see if he wanted ot jion them.ALice and BElla came with him.The members of the Volturi have powers just like the Cullens. The members wanted to see if their powers would work on Bella,a nd they didn't. The only way the Volturi would let Bella leave alive was if she was to turn into a vampire. They told her she had one year to become one of them. Together Bella,Edward, and Alice went back to the states where the rest of the Cullens were there to meet them.Edward took Bella home and would not leave her side. He explained that he left to protect her but he couldn't live without her. He told her that we will and always loved her.She told him that she loved him and didn't want him to leave ever again, he promiced that he would never leave unless BELLA told him to.Bellatolkd him that would never happen.Jacob Black was very angry that Edward was returning so he thought that if he got Bella into a lot of trouble then the "blood sucker" would leave. Jacob brought Bellas' dirt bike over to her house and showed it to Charlie.Charlie was VERY ANGERY!He screamed at Bella and it was not the nicest scene in the book.I've read New Moon about 4 times in the first week that i had it. Edward is my favorite character!!!!i got this book a week after it came out and that was the best day of my life.I dont like that Edward left Bella in the woods, but if you think about it he was doing it for her protection.During the months that Bella was depresed that was the worst part of the book. When I read that part for the first time I almost throught the book at the wall.It made me cry.My favorite part was when Alice found Bella and they were going to save Edward.I've read many books in my time a lot more than others can say they read, and this was by far the best book ever!! IF YOU DON'T READ THIS BOOK THEN YOU JUST DON'T LIKE BOOKS THAT ARE INTERESTING, AND ABLE TO DEVOURE A BOOK IN ONE SITTING! SO READ IT!!!

5 out of 5 stars awesome!.......2007-09-30

Just like the title says this book is awesome! just a wonderful series that is original and thrilling. The books is romantic as it is suspenseful. You fall in love with everything. a must read to the twilight series. GO and read the others!

4 out of 5 stars A great read.......2007-09-30

Although you'll spend the first 2/3 of the book angry, the pay off is worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Of course you have to read this if you've read Twilight.......2007-09-30

So, I have to say, New Moon may not be the shockingly present suprise that Twilight was for me. I think that's because I already knew it was going to be a story about characters I was already completely invested in. New Moon has all of the romance, complications, and excitement of the first novel.

Book Description

Readers haven't seen anything yet-new in the "fabulously imagined series" (Publishers Weekly) from the #1 New York Times bestselling author.

Anita Blake is about to face the challenge of her life. Into her world-a world already overflowing with power-have come creatures so feared that powerful, centuries-old vampires refuse to mention their names. It is forbidden to speak of The Harlequin unless you've been contacted. And to be contacted by The Harlequin is to be under sentence of death.

Long-time rivals for Anita's affections, Jean-Claude, Master Vampire of the City, and Richard, alpha-werewolf, will need to become allies. Shapeshifters Nathaniel and Micah will have to step up their support. And then there's Edward. In this situation, Anita knows that she needs to call the one man who has always been there for her...

2 out of 5 stars Small differences don't equal a good book.......2007-09-24

I have been a long time reader of Anita Blake books. I honestly had given up on the series and had stopped reading them completely until I read the reviews on this website. So I checked it out of the library and here is my review..

1) Laurell K. Hamilton did manage to tone down the sex, although her blatantly obvious "scolding" scenes where she's obviously referencing fans that are upset with where the sex has gone, having Anita "justify" her sex life for "right-wing conservatives" (aka "the mean fans"). I happen to be a liberal myself, and I enjoy some steamy sex scenes in my books. It's when the sex becomes more than the plot that I have an issue with it. That is when she should stop labeling it at fantasy, and start labeling it as erotica. Having said that, she did a good job of toning it down in this book, but the fact that she slaps the fans on the wrist several times within the content that almost negates my good feelings toward her for doing it.

2) The book was filled with the same old arguments that have been repeated and repeated and repeated in the past five or six books, and it's getting old. I don't want to hear Richard whine anymore. I don't want to hear Anita whine about Richard anymore. I don't want to read the same argument that Anita and Richard seem to have every five pages. Pick a way that these two are heading and STICK WITH IT. I don't expect the relationship to be perfect, to have no arguing at all, but PLEASE stop fighting about the same thing over and over! Fight over something new, or HEY! Don't fight at all for an entire book. NOT fighting also happens in relationships too.

3) There are too many men. I'm not talking about Anita and her sex life here, she can have as many lovers as she wants. But Ms. Hamilton should realize that after awhile, this becomes confusing. Ratio-wise, she just gains more men and not less every book. I can't remember them all or who they are or where they came from or what part they play in the book. Ms. Hamilton just spends time re-explaining every bit player and it just takes up more useless space where some real plot should be going.

I honestly feel like this series should have ended five or six books back. It makes me sad when authors continue to chug out books simply because it's making money for them and not for the integrity of the story. It seems like Ms. Hamilton has good ideas for plot, but not as many as she used to and now she's filling in between the spaces of the sparse concepts she does have. She has made comments before on her blog about how fans should just stop reading her books if we don't like them. How about she just stops publishing them publicly and writes them for herself then? Because she makes money off of them, but feels that she shouldn't have to listen to fans that pay her bills. Well, that's also the case with the story. It's been drawn out too long, and it's diluting what should have been intensely and purposefully ended a few books ago, with the strong ending it deserves.

4 out of 5 stars anita blake is at it again.......2007-09-22

what do you say about a writer who you can't wait until the next book comes out. it was excellent. i always recommend laurell hamiltons books

3 out of 5 stars reason to hope.......2007-09-21

I've been reading the Anita Blake series for years. It was the original confident and self-sufficient Anita who had me loving these books. She knew what she wanted and what she was about, and she went after it. I know that people/characters evolve. Stories stagnate if no one ever changes. Her changes, however, turned her into a shadow of her former self, and it was painful to see this persist over the course of several books. I was ready to throw in the towel and write Anita off. The last book that I truly enjoyed was book 9, Obsidian Butterfly, which also happened to feature another of my favorite characters, Edward. I slogged my way through the next 5, hoping to see Anita find her way out of her circle of self-doubt and endless sex. This book took a turn for the better. The plot was tighter and there was less of an emphasis on Anita needing sex to feed the ardeur. She's still agonizing over Richard though. UGH! Hamilton is at her best when she's crafting action scenes that have Anita tackling bad guys coming at her from all sides, and there was some good action in this one. The Harlequin will not rank among my favorites in the series, but it gives me hope. I'm not going to give up on Anita or LKH yet.

3 out of 5 stars Back to an actual story...mostly.......2007-09-20

Finally, an Anita Blake novel with 15 chapters before actual sex! Of course, a lot of those 15 deal with talking about sex, but there does seem to be an actual story this time. After the last few I waited until now to get the book to see what other readers had to say...and for the most part I agree - the story is better and the sex less frequent and graphic. She's almost like the old Anita we knew and missed. Here's hoping for the future.

2 out of 5 stars Better but still not great "Spoilers".......2007-09-11

This is the first book of the series that I didn't buy right away (or at all). I waited to check it out of the library after shelling out big bucks for the last Merry Gentry book and feeling really ripped off. Spoilers!!!!! I was pleased to see that there was less sex and it was, for the most part, less graphic than in the past, although reading that she is bleeding after sex and that her partner is turned on by it was just gross. That said, this book felt like a rerun. I cannot stomach another argument between Richard and Anita, much less one that comes in the middle of a scary situation when their lives are in danger. I think a good editor could've tightened this book up a bit and improved the flow. The relationship stuff, while very important and interesting, constantly took over and stalled the action. The internal dialogue of Anita's thoughts and the external dialogue she had with other characters was frequently repetitive. We, the readers, only need to be told the facts of a situation once. My final complaint is that what could easily have been the most emotionally dynamic scene in the book, the fight between Richard and Jean Claude, was only written as the aftermath, because Anita was in another room at the time. Could've been brilliant, shame it's not.

"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. 'Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat."

As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. In Twilight, an exquisite fantasy by Stephenie Meyer, readers discover a pair of lovers who are supremely star-crossed. Bella adores beautiful Edward, and he returns her love. But Edward is having a hard time controlling the blood lust she arouses in him, because--he's a vampire. At any moment, the intensity of their passion could drive him to kill her, and he agonizes over the danger. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.

Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. She begins with a familiar YA premise (the new kid in school), and lulls us into thinking this will be just another realistic young adult novel. Bella has come to the small town of Forks on the gloomy Olympic Peninsula to be with her father. At school, she wonders about a group of five remarkably beautiful teens, who sit together in the cafeteria but never eat. As she grows to know, and then love, Edward, she learns their secret. They are all rescued vampires, part of a family headed by saintly Carlisle, who has inspired them to renounce human prey. For Edward's sake they welcome Bella, but when a roving group of tracker vampires fixates on her, the family is drawn into a desperate pursuit to protect the fragile human in their midst. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction. (Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell

10 Second Interview: A Few Words with Stephenie Meyer

Q: Were you a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Angel? What are you watching now that those shows are off the air?
A: I have never seen an entire episode of Buffy or Angel. While I was writing Twilight, I let my older sister read along chapter by chapter. She's a huge Buffy fan and she kept trying to get me to watch, but I was afraid it would mess up my vision of the vampire world so I never did.

I don't have a ton of time for TV, and my kids get rowdy when I have on "mommy shows," but I do have a secret fondness for reality shows (the good ones, at least in my opinion). I always TiVo Survivor, The Amazing Race, and America's Next Top Model.

Q: What inspired you to write Twilight? Is this the beginning of a series? Why write for teens?
A: Twilight was inspired by a very vivid dream, which is fairly faithfully transcribed as chapter thirteen of the book. There are sequels on the way--I'm hard at work editing book two (tentatively titled New Moon) right now, and book three is waiting in line for its turn.
I didn't mean to write for teens--I didn't mean to write for anyone but myself, so I had an audience of one twenty-nine year old (and later one thirty-one year old when my sister started reading). I think the reason that I ended up with a book for teens is because high school is such a compelling time period--it gives you some of your worst scars and some of your most exhilarating memories. It's a fascinating place: old enough to feel truly adult, old enough to make decisions that affect the rest of your life, old enough to fall in love, yet, at the same time too young (in most cases) to be free to make a lot of those decisions without someone else's approval. There's a lot of scope for a novel in that.

Q: What is your favorite vampire story? Fave vampire movie?
A: I guess my favorite vampire story would be The Vampire Lestat, by Anne Rice, simply because it's one of the only ones I've ever read. I keep meaning to pick up Bram Stoker's Dracula, because I get asked this question so often and I should probably start with the classics, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. Again, I'm afraid to read other vampire books now, for fear of finding things either too similar, or too different from my own vampire world.

Ack! I can't even answer the movie question. I can't remember ever seeing a single vampire movie, outside of clips from Bela Lugosi movies on TV. I don't like true horror movies--my favorite scary movies are all Hitchcock's.

Q: What other young adult authors do you read?
A: My favorite young adult author is L.M. Montgomery I also enjoy J.K. Rowling (but who doesn't?), and Ann Brashares. As a teen, I skipped straight to adult books (lots of sci-fi and Jane Austen), so I'm rediscovering the world of teen literature now.

A: The book with the most significant impact on my life is The Book of Mormon. The book with the most significant impact on my life as a writer is probably Speaker for the Dead, by Orson Scott Card, with Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier coming in as a close second.

Q: You are stranded on a desert island with only one book, one CD, and one DVD--what are they?
A: The CD is easy: Absolution by Muse, hands down. It's harder to give myself just one movie, but the one I watch most frequently is Sense and Sensibility--the one with the screenplay by Emma Thompson. One book is impossible. I'd have to have Pride and Prejudice, but I couldn't live without something by Orson Scott Card and a nice, thick Maeve Binchy, too.

Q: What is the worst lie you've ever told?
A: My lies are all very, very boring: "No, you really look great in hot pink!" "My children only watch one hour of TV a day." "I didn't eat the last Swiss Cake Roll--it must have been one of the kids." That's the best I've got.

Q: Describe the perfect writing environment.
A: It's late at night and the house is silent, but I'm still (miraculously) full of energy. I have my headphones in and I'm listened to a mix of Muse, Coldplay, Travis, My Chemical Romance, and The All-American Rejects. Beside me is a fabulous, and yet mysteriously low in calorie, cheesecake....

Q: If you could write your own epitaph, what would it say?
A: I'd like it to say that I really tried at the important things. I was never perfect at any of them, but I honestly tried to be a great mom, a loving wife, a good daughter, and a true friend. Under that, I'd want a list of my favorite Simpsons quotes.

Q: Who is the one person living or dead that you would like to have dinner with?
A: I'd love to have a chance to talk to Orson Scott Card--I have a million questions for him. Mostly things like, "How do you come up with this stuff?!" But, if he wasn't available, I'd settle for Matthew Bellamy (lead singer of Muse).

Q: If you could have one superpower, what would it be?
A: I'd want something offensive, rather than defensive. Like shooting fireballs from my hands. That way, you're really open to going either way--hero or villain. I like to have choices.

Book Description

"Softly he brushed my cheek, then held my face between his marble hands. 'Be very still,' he whispered, as if I wasn't already frozen. Slowly, never moving his eyes from mine, he leaned toward me. Then abruptly, but very gently, he rested his cold cheek against the hollow at the base of my throat." As Shakespeare knew, love burns high when thwarted by obstacles. But, Bella would rather be dead than part from Edward, so she risks her life to stay near him, and the novel burns with the erotic tension of their dangerous and necessarily chaste relationship.Meyer has achieved quite a feat by making this scenario completely human and believable. The precision and delicacy of Meyer's writing lifts this wonderful novel beyond the limitations of the horror genre to a place among the best of YA fiction.(Ages 12 and up) --Patty Campbell 10 Second Interview: A Few Words with Stephenie Meyer Q: Were you a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Montgomery I also enjoyJ.K. Rowling (but who doesn't?), and Ann Brashares. As a teen, I skipped straight to adult books (lots of sci-fi and Jane Austen), so I'm rediscovering the world of teen literature now. 5 out of 5 stars Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1).......2007-10-03

[Fun: 5/5] [Learning: 3/5] [Suitable: 4/5]

Wow! This has to be the most addicting series I've read in a long time. It is something of a typical teen romance, but with the twist of a dark gothic feel leant to it by the vampire characters. The writing surprised me, as I expected a hastily written feel to the book, without a lot of skill. It turned out to be rather well-written, though, hooking the reader with a developed sense of style from the first page. The story is about a high-school girl, Bella, who falls in love with a vampire, and the problems that you can probably imagine that it causes. Though Edward and his "family" are sort of "vegetarian" vampires (refusing to prey on humans, but instead trying to help them), Bella herself attracts more trouble than a group of mythical monsters. Edward is forever trying to conquer his instincts and protect his love. This book is full of action and suspense, and a good book for those who like a bit of a dark side (though not necessarily an evilness) to their reading. It is surprisingly lacking in gore and other objectionable content usually found in teen romances. Simply the fact that Edward is a vampire keeps a healthy distance between the two teens. However, I would react in the same way as Bella's father to some of the behavior exhibited in the story--for example, Edward (as vampires don't sleep) spends nights in Bella's room--quite innocently, but still, not behavior I would allow in my own house. Also, the level of attatchment that Bella has with Edward is very strong. Again, something to think about with teens. There is a somewhat scary vampire attack in the end, as well as references to an attempted rape, and the reader is exposed to Edward's violent vampire thoughts. All in all, however, I've read the series and would recommend it for teens over 16, and would encourage parents to be very aware of content and available to discuss some of the issues.

Audience:
* Teen Readers (16 and up)

Positive Themes:
* Conquering temptations in order to do what's right
* Enjoyable read

Objectionable Content:
* Some questionable romantic behavior
* Disobedience of authority figures
* Suspenseful vampire attack
* Attempted rape

My Recommendations:
The other books in the Twilight series, which are currently New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn, to be released in the fall of 2008, along with Midnight Sun, which has no publishing date yet. Readers may also enjoy A Great and Terrible Beauty and Rebel Angels by Libba Bray.

5 out of 5 stars A nice spin on Vampire romance!.......2007-10-02

There was Blade and then there was Buffy. Two loves in totally different styles! One of my favorite authors of all times is LA Banks of the Vampire Huntress Series. If I had to make a comparison, and the only reason that I am is because I am trying to compare this work with some of the other outstanding authors in the paranormal romance genre. Meyer is unlike other paranormal romance writers (like Handeland, Armstrong and Banks) in that her work is campy and light, and would kind of remind you of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, without the slaying! Handeland, Armstrong and Banks' works are more like Blade or Underworld, full of fights, a little sex, a lot of action and adventure (for a more mature audience). However, although I am in my late 30's, I found that "Twilight" to be a wonderful story with a lot of future potential, so much so that I am driven to read the others.

Briefly, the plot: Bella moves to Forks to live with her father, Charlie (who I would love to see really more involved in the storyline in future novels). The clumsy, insecure and awkward teenager enters a new high school and finds that while she was a small fish in a big ocean (in the City), here in Forks she seems exciting to the locals (lots of boys interested). However, while several boys find Bella interesting, there is only one that catches her eye, Edward Cullen. Edward, who initially seems to dislike Bella, proves to be a puzzle to her. He is mysterious, extremely handsome and doesn't come to school when the sun is shining (Forks is normally rainy and cloudy). As she sets out to solve the mystery of Edward, she begins to discover that the Cullen family is not what they seem. Besides being all extremely beautiful, they appear to have a lot of secrets.

So, while Bella works on solving the mystery to her mysterious boyfriend and his family, she is also dealing with the normal perils of teenage life: boys, relationships, dances, proms, divorced parents and clumsiness (she gets hurt all the time).

What I liked about the novel was the tension between her desire to be with Edward forever, and his reluctance to make sure that she remains human. While he has lived 80 years, she is only 17 or 18. (OK, that could bring on a totally different conversation.) He feels that stealing her soul, would amount to fighting all that he and his family have been working for (they have given up human blood and only hunt animals) for the past few decades. Who will ultimately win this battle of wills is what we will have to stay tuned in to see?I can't wait to read New Moon, hopefully it will live up to my expectations.

5 out of 5 stars Nocturnal Guilty Pleasure.......2007-10-02

Never before have I been inspired to write a review. By nature I tend to stray from anything classified as a "romance" or "young adult". In comparison it's like shopping for clothes at Wal-Mart... I wouldn't because it demeans my standards. I am a self-proclaimed book snob. My usual reads saunter out of the History, Biography, General Fiction and Horror sections. I work in a bookstore and after garnering countless recommendations on the series I finally gave in and picked up a copy of Twilight.
All I have to say is, "Bravo!" Mrs. Meyer!
I've already started reading New Moon. The story still hypnotizes me. I'm lost in every word of every page.
Twilight is a story that has rekindled my "rabid hunger" (pun intended) for reading. I watched an interview in which Stephenie Meyer stated that she didn't think anything could ever be as phenomenal as The Harry Potter series. Perhaps she's right, but not in my book!

All children want reassurance that their parents' love runs wide and deep. In Guess How Much I Love You, a young rabbit named Little Nutbrown Hare thinks he's found a way to measure the boundaries of love. In a heartwarming twist on the "I-can-do-anything-you-can-do-better" theme, Little Nutbrown Hare goes through a series of declarations regarding the breadth of his love for Big Nutbrown Hare. But even when his feelings stretch as long as his arms, or as high as his hops, Little Nutbrown Hare is fondly one-upped by the elder rabbit's more expansive love.

Anita Jeram's illustrations are bound to elicit an "aw" from even the sternest of readers; these loving rabbits are expressive, endearing, and never cloying. In turn, Sam McBratney tells a simple bedtime story of sweet familial love with humor, insight, and a delightful surprise at the end. Children and parents will love snuggling up for this one--a treat to be read again and again, just before the lights are turned out. (Click to see a sample spread. Text © 1994 by Sam McBratney. 5 out of 5 stars For new baby.......2007-09-22

The first time I heard of this book was in my childbirth class. I loved it so much I had to buy it. I'm hoping it will become one of my baby's favorite books.

5 out of 5 stars Good all-around baby book.......2007-09-19

I bought this baby book based on the reviews and the fact that Guess How Much I Love You is one of my favorite children's books. The book does a nice job of asking enough questions to make a complete record for your baby without being overly burdensome. Some of the other books I looked at seriously asked what the weather was on the day you found out your were pregnant. Seriously, who would care about that? This baby book also gives great suggestions for a few pictures which is helpful--like the place to put a picture of you pregnant. I am very pleased.

1 out of 5 stars Don't Like the Message.......2007-09-15

I know many people love this book. I don't know why. We received one as a gift, and after reading it to my daughter, I was disturbed by the story. I felt sorry for the bunny whose parent invalidated his expression of love on each page. As many other reviewers said, it was a competition the adult wouldn't let the child win. This book contains a mean-spirited, misguided, sad, and disturbing message.

5 out of 5 stars Family favorite.......2007-08-01

"Guess how much I love you" is a classic. The story is a simple dialog between a big rabbit (the parent) and a little rabbit (the baby), each professing and comparing the depth & "height" of their love for each other. We read this book almost every day to our infant daughter. She loves the watercolor illustrations & coos at the pictures. A lovely addition to a kid' book collection.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful - this really is a very good book.......2007-07-24

This is a fabulous book for little children and the grownups who read to them. When children are read to daily, they learn to love reading. Perfect bedtime stories, to calm everyone down and make us ready for sweet dreams. If you can find the LARGE size book get it- they're fabulous keepsakes. Perfect gifts for any child, and a perfect tradition in your own home and family!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Book.......2007-02-07

I heartily recommend this book to anyone doing Linux Kernel or Kernel module development. Although the Modules chapter could be expanded upon, the rest of the book gives excellent insight into the workings of the 2.6 Kernel. Also, the three appendices provide good examples and additional information. This book has provided invaluable information for completing and documenting a complex project I've been working on.

5 out of 5 stars Primer for transitioners to Linux.......2006-10-31

Excellent book for Linux rampups(esp with years on other OS'es).
A flowing style that explains effortlessly about scheduler, slabs, dentry.

In Chap 12, it would be nice to have filesys comparison in table format(e.g. Reiser, ext3, jfs wrt performance, journalling), although this strictly is not kernel.
Chap 18(Debugging) could also be more polluted with real life tools info, e.g Kprobes, LTT, lcrash or LKCD or the coolest toy on sourceforge)

Overall, money very well spent on this book.

4 out of 5 stars Good book for Linux kernel basics.......2006-10-13

This book presents the kernel basics in a lucid language with the necessary details, that both newbies and experienced kernel programmers can grasp. My favorite section is the one about the new 2.6 scheduler. A chapter on the open source community is also included towards the end.

Once you have read this book and understood the kernel a bit, it would be helpful in dwelling into subsystem specifics that this book might not have gone into. I suggest reading the Linux Device Drivers by Corebet, Rubini, Kroah-Hartman for that purpose. These books, together with articles on the web, should certainly help anyone interested.

Book Description

“One of the most admired men in the world of seduction” (The New York Times) teaches average guys how to approach, attract and begin intimate relationships with beautiful women
For every man who always wondered why some guys have all the luck, Mystery, considered by many to be the world’s greatest pickup artist, finally reveals his secrets for finding and forming relationships with some of the world’s most beautiful women. Mystery gained mainstream attention for his role in Neil Strauss’s New York Times bestselling exposé, The Game. Now he has written the definitive handbook on the art of the pickup.
He developed his unique method over years of observing social dynamics and interacting with women in clubs to learn how to overcome the guard shield that many women use to deflect come-ons from "average frustrated chumps."

His tips include:
*Give more attention to her less attractive friend at first, so your target will get jealous and try to win your attention.
*Always approach a target within 3 seconds of noticing her. If a woman senses your hesitation, her perception of your value will be lower.
*Don't be picky. Approach as many groups of people in a bar as you can and entertain them with fun conversation. As you move about the room, positive perception of you will grow. Now it's easy to meet anyone you want.
*Smile. Guys who don't get laid, don't smile.

4 out of 5 stars Really good book!.......2007-09-30

This book was great but the problem is that it is more of an explanation on the mystery method than a "how to" book. It gives few examples of gambits (conversations starters to disarm & attract targets). The reader is basically encouraged to go out & figure it out through constant trial & error. What I loved most is the explanations of differences between men & women & why women do some of the crazy things they do (this alone is worth the price of the book). I t tells you what attracts women & how to choose the right thing to say & what body language you express. Again it does not actually tell you what to say & only very few gambits (you must be able to switch from on story to another effortlessly without pause to keep target intrigued & wanting more). The reader is left to come up with their own material or purchase it from his website.

5 out of 5 stars The Real Deal.......2007-09-30

I just finished watching "The Pick-up Artist" on WeTV with Mystery as its host and it really proved to be entertaining! I met my girlfriend being "cocky and funny" in that I showed humor, confidence, and flirtation which are the basics of what Mystery teaches. Overall, a great read! You'd be surprised how many men are clueless on how to approach women. Also, there are so many women who are intimidated by men approaching them if they have a boyfriend or husband. They freak out and don't take it as a compliment!

5 out of 5 stars what a crock of crap!.......2007-09-29

Well, having read both books... I still say what a crock of crap. The book is more aptly named how to manipulate women and get laid.

Perfect for every guy who is having trouble getting laid and is in no real need of a relationship or has any desire on how to actually have a relationship... Just pretend your way from bed to bed...

I'm not saying that is a bad thing. For some men, and women or that matter, this works and he/she is happy with it. But this book should not be read with the idea that this is the way to find, build and have a lasting love based on anything trusting, vulnerable, or real.

Women should read this book, so they can spot these guys when they come around and make a decision knowing what is really going on.

So, why did I rate the book a 5? The book says exactly what it says it does... teaches exactly what it says it teaches. It is the responsibility of each reader to decide if that is the desired knowledge and outcome he is seeking.

3 out of 5 stars Informative, but It won't make you happy..........2007-09-29

I'll start off saying that this book is worth reading because it will teach you about people, both men and women. Any book that is ranked #27 at amazon that is about THIS topic is obviously special. There are many books that promise guys sex with beautiful women, but few make it in the top 10000, let alone the top 100. What makes this one different?

I think because it explains how mating in human beings works in a progression and from an evolutionary psychology standpoint, while at the same time applying it to the bar/club/party scene.

The idea is this: High quality women look for high quality men. They won't have sex with you until they see you as high quality. This means you either have to actually BE high quality, or you have to give the illusion of being high quality. This book teaches you to mostly do the 2nd, not the 1st.

Peacocking, memorizing canned material, learning palm reading and magic tricks, pretending to have lots of friends and women, telling fictional stories as the truth, these things don't make you higher quality. They only create the illusion. This makes sense, after all, the author is a professional illusionist.

If you want a higher-quality woman LONG TERM, make yourself higher quality. This book mostly teaches you how to fake it long enough to get them into bed.

This method, if followed diligently and practiced A LOT, may get you in bed with some 10s. But it won't last because eventually the real you and the real her will surface and there will be no more game, just an awkward incompatibility.

I would much rather be with a 7 who is a good person, intelligent, and loyal, than a 10 who is spoiled, thinks the world owes her a living because of her beauty, and will soon cheat on you (and how could she not, she has male-10s offering her sex 24/7 - are you THAT great she would turn them all down?).

If you want sex in a relationship that will make you happy, it will probably be with someone who is about as good quality as you are. That is the only way you will both appreciate each other long term and stay loyal to each other.

4 out of 5 stars The Mystery Method: How to Get Beautiful Women Into Bed .......2007-09-28

This is a fantastic read. Essentially, this could be considered an affective textbook for attraction and social dynamics applicable to nearly any situation. If you've ever wanted more out of your interraction with other people, read this book.

The mother sings to her sleeping baby: "I'll love you forever / I'll love you for always / As long as I'm living / My baby you'll be." She still sings the same song when her baby has turned into a fractious 2-year-old, a slovenly 9-year-old, and then a raucous teen. So far so ordinary--but this is one persistent lady. When her son grows up and leaves home, she takes to driving across town with a ladder on the car roof, climbing through her grown son's window, and rocking the sleeping man in the same way. Then, inevitably, the day comes when she's too old and sick to hold him, and the roles are at last reversed. Each stage is illustrated by one of Sheila McGraw's comic and yet poignant pastels. 1 out of 5 stars This is a Top Ten Creepy Children's Book.......2007-10-03

This starts off kind of cute. The mother has a child in her arms and she tells him, "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be." As an expression of a parent's unconditional love it's a great little saying from a mother to her son. And then you turn the pages, the kid gets older, and the you see the mom sneaking into the teenage son's bedroom and repeating the mantra. It seems a little Oedipus, as I'd not really like to think about my mom sneaking into my room when I was a teenager but ok, still kind of cute.

Then the son gets married and moves away. Happy ending? Not exactly. Now the mother straps a ladder to her car, drives across town, and breaks into the son's house, sneaks into his bedroom and while he's sleeping with his wife next to him tells him "I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be." Ok, having seen Psycho, I have to say I'm a bit disturbed. This continues through the son's life, until the mother is dying, and the son repeats her mantra back to her.

The last page in the book shows the son, cradling his newborn, repeating his mother's mantra to the baby, and the cycle repeats. If this were a movie, I would have expected the creepy horror music to well up, have the son look into the camera and start an evil cackle as the picture faded to black.

5 out of 5 stars A comfort.......2007-10-03

It was my Kindergarten teacher who introduced me to this book when I was about five years old. It was a hard time for me at that age because my mom was gone a lot but this book made it a little easier. The song "I'll love you forever" still rings true today and occasionally I even get a little misty eyed. Looking back I remember singing it to my grandmother who couldn't help the tears that filled her eyes and a slight smile on her face when she hugged me "Your right little one and it will never change". It's a comforting book about love between parents and yes even grandparents that passes on generation to generation.

This is one of my favorite children's books and will remain so. However I believe that sadly now we are becoming more and more politically correct and thats unfortunately effecting our children's books. Judge for yourself but remember that sometimes if you look to closely you lose the magic completely :)

5 out of 5 stars I love my mom.......2007-09-28

This book is has impacted me in such a way, and from such an early age, that it will resonate forever.
It is only a sad book if you don't know how to celebrate the life of a loved one. I think it's good for children to question the lessons of this book.

5 out of 5 stars a book for every family member / old & young.......2007-09-27

I bought this book years ago for my children who are now adults. We have since bought this book for every member of our family/ extended family. We write the main saying in the book on all our correpondences to each other. It is even on the flower holder at our parent's memorial. It is such an expression of pure love to all family members.

5 out of 5 stars My dying mother read this book to me when I was a homeless drunk. I am no longer a homeless drunk........2007-09-27

You've read the other reviews of this book so you know it is powerful. All I can tell you is that this book is too strong for words. My five year old loves the book but is confused about why I cry and can't ever read the last few pages aloud. If you have children, if you have a mother, this book is for you. It isn't really for kids.

Book Description

A timeless tale by the incomparable Kate DiCamillo, complete with stunning full-color plates by Bagram Ibatoulline, honors the enduring power of love.

"Someone will come for you, but first you must open your heart. . . ."

Once, in a house on Egypt Street, there lived a china rabbit named Edward Tulane. The rabbit was very pleased with himself, and for good reason: he was owned by a girl named Abilene, who treated him with the utmost care and adored him completely.

And then, one day, he was lost.

Kate DiCamillo takes us on an extraordinary journey, from the depths of the ocean to the net of a fisherman, from the top of a garbage heap to the fireside of a hoboes' camp, from the bedside of an ailing child to the bustling streets of Memphis. And along the way, we are shown a true miracle — that even a heart of the most breakable kind can learn to love, to lose, and to love again.

5 out of 5 stars Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane.......2007-09-23

This book was a request from my 9-yr-old granddaughter which I read before sending. I was delighted to find that it was a well-written and beautifully illustrated story that hooked me from Page 1. Edward Tulane is a non-feeling, sort of snobby, stuffed rabbit, who in a series of adventures and after being passed from home to home through no fault of his own, finds his heart...and love... and finally understands that even in the worst of circumstances there is always hope.

3 out of 5 stars Maybe not for kids? A bit depressing..........2007-09-16

The story was beautifully written but chapter by chapter I became more and more depressed. Actually, I wanted to put it down and just not read it after a while, but I continued. After such a dreadfully painfull and heart-breaking story I would have liked more than one page for a happy ending. Would I recommend it? With some hesitation... Would I read it again? No...

5 out of 5 stars Great Story!!.......2007-09-12

I love this story. It is an interesting tale of one pompous rabbit's journey in learning to love. Very sweet and teaches that there are good and sometimes not so good people in all walks of life.

5 out of 5 stars This Book Will Deepen You.......2007-08-18

At first I thought this book was a sappy emotional rollercoaster. Good grief, win, lose, win, lose, win, lose...what is the point?

The trick is, I was getting hurt and hardened just like the main character. I was sucked right in to the author's evil scheme.

By the end of the book, I was ready for the same victory as Edward.

I'll tell you what happened at the end.

I was crying and laughing and had to re-read the last page because I couldn't believe it.

My wife looked over from her chair and said, "Are you crying?"

I said, "Yes. Promise me you will read this book, and not just skip to the end."

"Before I go to bed?" she said. It is 10:45pm.

"No, but you have to read this book. It's incredible."

So there you go. Check it out. She is reading it now, and I'm going to go lie down and look out the window at the stars and name the constellations!

4 out of 5 stars A great read for anyone with a heart.......2007-08-07

"Edward Tulane" is a parable about learning to love, learning compassion, and then learning to love even knowing that it could lead to being hurt. DiCamillo is a marvelous story-teller, excercising tremendous control of the story. "Edward Tulane" reads like the layers of an onion being carefully and deliberately peeled back as Edward grows in his ability to love. A wonderful book to read with your late-toddler to pre-teen child, but also a great read for anyone with a heart.
