Book Description
It's been more than six months since her husband's brutal death, and Julia Ransom is just beginning to breathe again. She loved her husband, renowned psychic August Ransom, but the media frenzy that followed his murder sapped what little strength she had left. Now, after dinner with friends, strolling along San Francisco's Pier 39, she realizes that she's happy. Standing at the railing, she savors the sounds around her-tourists, seals on a barge-and for a moment enjoys the sheer normalcy of it all. And then it comes to an end.
Out of nowhere she's approached by a respectable-looking man who distracts her with conversation before violently attacking her and throwing her the railing. If it hadn't been for Special Agent Cheney Stone, out to stretch his legs between courses at a local restaurant, Julia would have vanished into the bay's murky depths. Not only does he save her from a watery grave, but he senses a connection between her assault and her husband's death, and sets out to serve as her protector while reopening August Ransom's murder investigation.
Meanwhile, in Maestro, Virginia, Sheriff Dixon Noble-last seen in Point Blank-still mourns his wife, Christie, who vanished hree years earlier. His life, too, is just getting back to normal when he learns of a San Francisco woman named Charlotte Pallack, whose shocking resemblance to Christie sends Dix across the country. Though he knows in his heart that she can't possibly be his wife, Dix is compelled to see her with his own eyes. Once in San Francisco, Dix and Cheney's paths inevitably cross. With the help of agents Dillon Savich and Lacey Sherlock, whose San Francisco connections prove essential in unlocking the mystery behind Charlotte Pallack's identity as well as the forces behind Julia Ransom's attempted murder, Sheriff Noble and Agent Stone push deep into a complex world of psychics and poseurs. As the stakes and the body count rise, Savich, Sherlock, Dix, and Cheney fight for answers-and their lives.

Another fast-paced thriller from Catherine Coulter.......2007-09-25
I wasn't disappointed in this latest installment of Catherine Coulter's FBI series. It was wonderful to once again "meet up with" Dillon and Sherlock (and their son). I quite enjoyed it, and hope Catherine Coulter will continue adding more books to this series.
Great FBI Thriller.......2007-09-22
I loved Double Take. It is the latest book in the FBI Thrillers from Cauther Coulter. All are great.
Plenty of Exciting Scenes and more!.......2007-09-21
Sometimes I enjoy fast paced thrillers, but when I want a well-thought out mystery novels then I read a book by Catherine Coulter. I have enjoyed her FBI series books with Sherlock and Dillon and in "Double Take" is was good to see Cheney and Dix make their return after appearing in Point Blank, which happens to be one of my favorites.
Overall, I didn't think this was one of Ms. Coulter's best books. I had a hard time keeping track of the characters and almost got to the point of keeping a score card as to "who" was "who". For me this "family tree" of characters caused a lot frustration on my part. However, let me say that mid-way through the book the story moved along at a brisk pace giving me plenty of exciting scenes. Soon, I found myself reading page and page until I finished it. Except for a few "kinks" in the story Catherine Coulter didn't disappoint me in this terrific story. And as always I look forward to reading her next novel.
For you mystery readers, take a look at the gripping novel The Monopoly Factor by Robert L. Saunders. I have to shout out that this mystery was an impressive read and I wholeheartedly recommend it to those of you that are searching for a refreshing story and writing style. The story will keep you reading non-stop and you'll find that you can't help but cheer on Barry and Susan. Don't overlook this book you won't be disappointed.
Double Take: FBI Thriller.......2007-09-07
Really dumb. FBI agents just going out on their own and solving crimes???????? Would not recommend. Boring and dumb.
An engineering disaster (Applies ONLY to audio book).......2007-09-06
I've always enjoyed Catherine Coulter's books and this one is no exception. Sandra Burr and Phil Gigante are fine readers on their own. In this reading, Mr. Gigante reads the book as well as all the men's parts, Ms. Burr handles all the female characters. The credits say they are the producers as well. Unfortunately they should stick to their day jobs, this is an engineering nightmare and almost impossible to enjoy. His voice is recorded sounding very dark and muffled, her voice is the opposite, louder, brighter and very sibilant. There is NO way one could ever imagine these two characters being in the same room together. It sounds as though they recorded each part separately in different states and edited them together afterwards. Totally awkward sounding. Please let a professional engineer record you next time. Not at all up to standard.

Book Description
"One of the best suspense novels of the year," raved the Cleveland Plain Dealer of Judy Mercer's Fast Forward, which "makes John Grisham's thrillers seem like the work of a rank amateur." Now, she brings back her first-class heroine, TV producer Ariel Gold, in a crackerjack story where nothing is as it seems.
DOUBLE TAKE
Ariel Gold has come to South Carolina for a much-needed break from L.A. -- and to continue to piece together her life after a devastating memory loss. But her wish for a little downtime is shattered when she arrives at her grandfather's home on Kiawah Island. A chance encounter with her past on a deserted beach is about to pull her into a spiral of Southern family scandal with all the force of a coastal hurricane. The deeper she delves into a chilling legacy of jealousy and bad blood, Ariel finds the truth can be twisted -- and memories can be murder...
With the electrifying thrills that made Fast Forward a coast-to-coast hit, Judy Mercer brings her "irresistible first-person voice -- clever, caustic, and brash" (Minneapolis Star Tribune) to a dazzling suspense winner.
Customer Reviews:
Not Worth the Time - Poor Payoff.......2005-03-31
I do not know who the people were who reviewed this book and thought it was so great. I thought it was terrible. I will tell you why I can not recommend Double Take. It was too long, at least 50 pages of detail on lesser characters, like the housekeeper, could have been omitted. It had too many characters that only served to cloud the storyline and not enough about the characters, like Cunningham, that actually were key to moving things along. The author kept changing her mind about who did it. I figured out the crime involved an identity switch at the scene of the accident, why didn't the police verify the identity of the dead or the living? There was no need for an East Coast and a West Coast mystery. I expected some overlap in the characters, some clue in one that clearly pointed back to the other. I got excited when the West Coast guy owned a painting by the East Coast guy. But no connection was developed between them. The whole thing seemed choppy and messy to me.
I hoped for some advancement in the romance of Ariel and Henry, but that was tentative also. In the end when Henry and his son, Sam, went to South Carolina with Ariel I expected some excitement, but the author skipped the whole thing condensing it to one short paragraph. And don't get me started on the ending... maybe someone tore the last few pages from my book because the story just stopped. I do not recommend this book.
Suspenseful book, not quite up to par.......2005-01-02
After reading Fast Forward, and then Double Take, a lot of the same problems plagued me. I expect a bit of amature while reading the first book from an author, but I was hoping the second would get a bit more honed. I felt that both books were a bit sloppy and not yet up to par with other writers in the field. However, both books did keep me reading til the end, and especially after DT, Ariel is starting to grow on me.
Double Take picks up where Fast Forward left off: Ariel is getting to know her grandfather, and her newest problem is that people keep mistaking her for her dead twin sister. Just as she's trying to get away and relax, she finds herself in the middle of a mystery. An old friend of the family has committed suicide, or so it seems. While Ariel is investingating what has happened; her friend Henry is back home watching her dogs and uncovering a mystery himself. The book moves with a slow pace at times, and as you get to the end of the book you're ready for the conclusion and to know both "who dun-it's".
Mercer's characters and plots are interesting and worthwhile, it just seems she doesn't quite know how to impliment them. One of the things that irked me while reading the book is the way she goes from scene to scene- often she starts a chapter at the end of what happened & goes back to tell what we missed. This gets to be quite annoying. She also seems to jump around a bit, which makes it hard to follow what's going on. However, even with these flaws, the book was still a decent read. I do plan on reading the next book- Split Image. Make your own opinions from there.
Hard to Follow.......1999-01-02
This book had a good plot, but it was extremely hard to follow. There were too many characters that were not fully developed. The story kept jumping around from city to city and character to character which was very confusing. Ikept having to go back a few chapters to pick up on the character and storyline that was being presented.
An outstanding sequel to "Fast Forward". Top notch!.......1997-07-01
What a pleasure it is to read an intelligently written suspense novel peopled with real characters (including a dog) you care about.
Two years was too long to wait for the sequel to FASTFORWARD but DOUBLE TAKE was worth it.Number two in author JUDY MERCER'S Ariel Gold series is set for the most part in South Carolina, on Kiawah Island and in Charleston.A dividend is the down home flavor of the area. It's a stark contrast to Los Angeles, where Ariel works as a TV newsmagazine producer and where the subplot unfolds.
There is something a little old-fashioned about Ariel and her family and friends.Could be it's that they'rer decent. Even the bad guys aren't so much scummy as they are fallible.DOUBLE TAKE is funny one minute and stirring the next, and it's satisfying from start to finish
The sequal is even better than the original.......1997-06-13
Two years ago, Ariel Gold had nothing but adoptive parents who never
cared for her. Since then she has learned who her natural family is,
though an unknown twin sister died in the explosion that left Ariel
suffering from amnesia (FAST FORWARD). Ariel is vacationing at her wealthy
grandfather's South Carolina estate. While there, she meets John William
Barron, an old friend of her deceased sibling. They talk providing Ariel
insight into her twin and the realization that John has some deep mental
problems. That evening long after they shared a good night, John apparently
kills himself.
...... Because of his connection to her sister, Ariel decides to investigate
John's death, hoping she can learn more about her family. As Ariel digs
deeper, she learns that the truth can be ugly and be disguised by a
dastardly prevarication. The closer to learning more about herself through
contact with her family, the less Ariel wants to know. Sometimes the truth
hurts.
..... The second novel in the Ariel Gold series is awarded a silver medal
for a fine and stirring novel that adds much to fleshing out the lead
protagonist and her family history. The story line is split between
Ariel's quest and her boss's search for a missing individual. Both tales
in of themselves are well written and fun to read, but do tend to
occasionally trip over each other. In spite of this minor flaw, readers
will enjoy the thrills emulating from DOUBLE TAKE as Judy Mercer
demonstrates a growing talent that should take her to the top..

Book Description
Kait London has been estranged from her twin sister for years. She has never understood why and has always regretted it. When her phone rings in the middle of the night, Kait learns that Lana desperately needs her help. All Kait has to do is take her place, for two days, at her home in the horse country of Virginia. If Kate can play this role convincingly enough, she will save Lana's life....This is a game the twins have played before. But never like this. For the charade is much more difficult to pull off than when they were children. Lana has many secrets, secrets she has kept from everyone, including Kait-and she has as many enemies, including her own husband. Kait hadn't been expecting Trev Coleman to be in residence. Worse, she is soon forced to recognize how darkly seductive he is-and that he may very well be her worst enemy. Then she discovers that someone is deliberately stalking Lana, but Kait is the trapped prey....
Customer Reviews:
Good for a modern romance.......2006-10-03
I liked this book. I generally only read historical romance, but I love Brenda's Deadly series so thought I would give one of her modern romances a try. I liked this one. I did suspect the ending because there was a similar situation in one of her other books, but still I thought it was good.
One of the worst .......2006-01-05
Mind you, I didn't pick this novel up because I assumed it would be great literature, but I didn't expect it to be this bad. Certainly folks like Mary Higgins Clark and James Patterson have proven that a quick and easy read can also be well thought out and clearly written.
This book was neither. The lead character is foolish beyond likeability and the plot is just a rehash of many other (better written) mysteries.
I suppose the good news is, you can skip every 3 pages or so and never lose an ounce of the story. Joyce's repetition creates a sort of 'Cliff Notes' version to an overly long tale.
Too bad, I'm always looking for new authors to become loyal to. Seems Brenda Joyce won't be on my list.
My First and Last.......2005-10-29
This book was so annoying and totally unbelievable. When an author decides to do the twin switcher-roo plot she ought to be ready to really sell the story with great plot development, deep romance and exceptional writing since the concept has been done over and over again. Many times I felt that Joyce cut and paste parts of the book from previous chapters because Kait would think the exact same thing verbatim. Kait's reasoning and actions were so stupid she became completely unlikable. I was so frustrated at her complete inability to act sensibly that I really began to hope she and Trev didn't get together because she was so weak and clueless. Also there were a few too many sub plots that really added nothing of value to the story. Although it did provide a break from Kait's repetive thoughts. Do yourself a favor and check this book out at the library like I did. If you spend your money you will be very unhappy. I don't plan to pick up another of Ms. Joyce's books. Her writing style leaves a lot to be desired.
A double edged sword.......2005-09-22
I enjoyed this book a lot however, there were a few things that lessened my enjoyment. One was the fact that Kait had the same thoughts over and over again "I need to help my sister save her marriage", "my sister can't be as bad as they say she is"; it got repetitive and annoying. It was like get a clue! Also, the love story wasn't all that developed or believable. Overall, the book was a good read but when something starts to bug you, the enjoyment level goes down.
& 1/2 stars. Exciting, twisting, romantic but a bit frustrating!.......2005-08-19
Kaitlin and Lana are identical twin sisters whose parents are deceased and have been estranged for most of their adults lives. Lana pops in and out of Kaitlin's life when she needs something or bragging or whatever. The last time Kait, who is a vice president in a public relations company in Manhattan, saw Lana was seven years ago.
Lana calls Kait and says she wants to meet her at a small local restaurant/coffee shop. Kait who longs for the closeness of family and loves Lana agrees to meet her. Lana tells her she is in very deep trouble as she was trying to "rescue" her husband's horse farm from bankruptcy and borrowed money from the wrong people. She asks Kait to switch places with her for just two days while she "deals" with the loan shark. Lana assures Kait that Trevor/Trev Coleman, her husband, is out of town. Lana also tells Kait that she has a four-year old daughter, Marni.
Kait is anxious to meet her niece as she loves children and always wanted to get married and have a family so she agrees since it is "only" for two days and she won't need to fool Lana's husband. Kait dresses as Lana and they switch all clothing and identities and cars and off she drives to the small town of Three Falls, Virginia.
Of course as the reader might guess, Lana's husband Trev is NOT out of town. In fact, Kait barely gets in the door and he hands her divorce papers. He and the housekeeper are obviously very antagonistic towards Lana. Even a man at the stable seems mocking. Marni, Lana's daughter, also seems afraid of her although Kait wins her over thus garnering even more distrust and suspicion in both Trev and the housekeeper's eyes.
Kait knew that Lana always had men trailing after her but she is appalled as she finds out the extent of Lana's philandering while married to what Kait thinks is the ideal husband!! Kait loves horses and goes riding only to get shot at - although none seem to believe her.
More and more twists and turns and threats to Kait as Lana occur. As all the devious schemes and plots are uncovered and Kait is trapped much longer than two days in Three Falls, I kept wondering why Kait didn't just tell the truth? If I found out my sister was as evil as hers, I would turn her in no matter how much I loved her as I think that would be the better thing for her! That was my main problem with the story is that Kait - even after getting very "close" to Trev-STILL doesn't confess!! Frustrating!!
The final conclusion and epilogue did disappoint me somewhat although at least Kait ends up happy but not through what I would consider the best of circumstances. An exciting if a bit frustrating read!
Book Description
During the past decade or more the American remake has increasingly characterized Hollywood's relationship with the French cinema, as films ranging from classics like A Bout de Souffle (Breathless) to contemporary comedies like Trois Hommes et un Couffin (Three Men and a Baby) and La Cage aux Folles (Birdcage) are adapted for US screens.
In this comparative, interdisciplinary study Carolyn Durham shows how the remake phenomenon reveals striking differences not just in film theory but also epitomizes larger issues of competition, political and economic tensions, and social, gender, and aesthetic constructs. Durham establishes the metaphor of Euro Disney, which American investors envisioned as the quintessential transcultural entertainment but many French denounced as "a cultural Chernobyl," and then applies it to a close analysis of the films, showing how significant changes between original and remake further our understanding of national identity in both countries. France's belief in its own cultural superiority, she writes, leads to a perceived duty to "disseminate French culture worldwide in the guise of civilisation itself," an attitude that clashes with Hollywood's filmmaking hegemony and its "openness to new ideas, including the foreign." While the central concern is the meaning of cross-cultural differences, this engaging and incisive book also outlines an ongoing battle between a nation convinced of its aesthetic and cultural patrimony and an American industry driven by its own sense of global destiny.

Customer Reviews:
Hilley can really spin a story!.......2006-05-01
Double Take by Joe Hilley involves Mike Connolly, a lawyer, in another exciting mystery. When Mike agrees to take Harvey Bosarge's case, he soon finds himself caught in much more than a simple murder.
Steve Ingram was a millionaire playboy and president of Ingram Shipbuilding Company. His company did government work, so his fiery death brought in the ATF, FBI, and, of course, the local police. Harvey's story about being hired by the husband of Steve's current girlfriend seems to have many missing pieces-especially as Mike collects more information.
When Mike is visited by the local senator's liaison and can't get any straight answers from Giles, the head of security at Ingram Shipbuilding, he knows there is much more going on than he is being told.
Soon, Mike finds the lives of each person he has working on the investigation being threatened. He discovers his friend, Hollis, beaten and wrapped in a fish net. His electronics expert is found dead. Suddenly he deduces that his own family is at risk and he whisks them off to his Uncle Guy for safekeeping.
Joe Hilley can really spin a story! His writing is fast-paced and keeps you guessing to the very end. He then follows up with a Readers' Guide for personal study or group discussion. If you like mysteries, you will love this. -- Linda Demorest, Christian Book Previews.com
Great suspence!.......2006-02-02
Great book! Well written. His work of caliber to early John Grisham's writings.
Quick suspenseful read.......2005-09-01
Joseph Hilley has done it again! I read his first book & was quite surprised with how much I liked it. I read this second title in a record three days. For me that is very quick as the mother of two preschoolers I don't have a lot of time to indulge my love of reading. The book kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

Book Description
A stirring combination of photography and history, Double Take presents more than seventy photographic pairs, each one a distinctive "then" and "now" view of the same exact scene, spanning a near-century of change in downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Presented side-by-side and spanning decades, the dramatic transformations comprise one of the most ambitious and original rephotography surveys ever undertaken.
In unprecedented scope and detail, celebrated Wisconsin photographer Zane Williams has precisely replicated the original views of an earlier Madison photographer, Angus McVicar, who first shot these locales from the 1920s to the 1950s. The result is a treasure trove of historic and contemporary images and an uncanny testament to the changes over time in a unique American city.
Sometimes startling in their revelations of loss and gain, of progress and decay, these evocative photographic pairings dare us to look again and again at the nature of time and place. The seeming inevitability of change and the often confounding unpredictability of public taste in our physical surroundings are captured in these documentary still images, moments frozen in the rushing stream of time.

A superbly appropriate sightseeing souvenir.......2003-04-12
Double Take: A Rephotographic Survey Of Madison, Wisconsin is a decidedly impressive collection of black-and-white photography by Wisconsin native Zane Williams and celebrates the beauty and uniqueness of Wisconsin's capital city of Madison. Book Description
Derek and Keith Brewer, identical twins from Redondo Beach, went from riding the waves of the California coastline to walking the runways of the world's fashion capitals. This bold, graphic biography chronicles their success story, featuring photographs by fashion's preeminent style-makers-- from Steven Meisel and Patrick Demarchelier to Blake Little and Peggy Sirota-- and showcasing the Brewers' appearances in top magazines, campaigns, and shows, from Esquire, Vogue, and Sassy, to Yves Saint Laurent and Calvin Klein. The Brewers also provide the inside scoop on their beach boyhood and extreme lifestyle, from surfing to snowboarding, and share what it's like to be celebrity twins. Derek and Keith are represented by Q, America's newest model management agency.

GEMINI HEAVEN.......2005-08-26
Just one of these guys is enough to turn your head...but a matched pair?...Double your pleasure, double your fun...with DOUBLE TAKE, DOUBLE TAKE,....you get the idea. Can you imagine.....?(finish this with your own fantasy)
The Twins Could Have Done Much Better.......2003-05-24
The book is pretty boring. The text is lacking, and skips anything in depth about these twin dudes. The pictures could be so much better. They really skipped over the Joe Magazine affair of their lives. Too bad, as that was the best of the Brewer boys as far as I am concerned. It was real, and heartfelt - this book is not.
Twins.......2002-03-06
They're brothers. They're twins. They're lovers? That's what many of their photographs suggest. Pictures of the twins undressing each other, holding each other, caressing each other, gazing into each other's eyes, and almost kissing each other. I don't know if the brothers were wanting to show the public their incestuous relationship or if the photographer somehow persuaded them to do it but it has made them into two of the most successful male models on the planet and for that I applaud them.
Boo!.......2001-07-17
Written for a child and about as thrilling as watching a Presidential debate on a hot summer day...
Don't waste your money or time on this - not even for a die-hard Brewer fan!
Mirror of Male Beauty.......2001-01-14
The Brewer Twins, Keith & Derek, would, each on his own, be among the most beautiful youths on the planet: it would be difficult to find anyone to match such perfection. But here we see this beauty mirrored - and more than just doubled. These are not just two exquisitely-formed guys who happen to be brothers: they are twins, with the shared intimacy that goes along with that. The striking point about most of the photos in this book is that their physical beauty is complemented and emphasized by the beauty of their friendship and fraternal love for each other. One does not simply admire their beauty: one cannot help but delight also in the sheer joy of seeing such closeness between two guys. We catch a glimpse of something very precious here, something that warms the heart as well as appealing to the eyes. Male beauty does not come better than this: these guys are the stuff of which the Greek myths of Adonis & Narcissus, Achilles & Ganymede are made - only the Greeks never imagined there could be two such fair youths. Buy it: you'll enjoy hours of pleasure gazing upon the beautiful Brewers - I know I have.
