If we would only stop and smell the roses once in a blue moon, we'd discover some amazing things on this planet. Why are wildflowers so brightly colored? To attract the attention of honeybees, of course. Why are flamingos pink? Because of the pigments in the crustaceans they eat. Perhaps only a physics professor would know that you can tell the age of a desert by the color of its sand--perhaps only a physics professor would care--but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to appreciate the photographic skills Neill employs in illustrating the authors' concepts.Book Description
Why is the sky blue and the grass green? What are the colorful secrets of the enigmatic aurora borealis or the ethereal shimmer of a soap bubble? From San Francisco's Exploratorium, the acclaimed hands-on museum behind the best-selling Explorabook, comes The Color of Nature, which delves into these and other intriguing questions. Extraordinary photographs and an engaging text illustrate the fascinating phenomena behind the myriad colors that make up our world -- from moon bows to mandrills, chameleons to hydrangeas. This remarkable volume will fire the imagination of anyone with a passion for nature, science, or photography.Customer Reviews:

All the Optics Theory the Average Person Could Want.......2003-12-13
Difficult read, wealth of info.......2001-04-12
On the other hand, it has allot of difficult to find information that is relevant to every photographic and projection system. It took me about 6 months to plow through it but it was worth it for the understanding I got out of it. It is an excellent reference book. I would only recommend it to professionals and the most obsessed amatures.
It has good very technical info on how different types of lenses work, how to do custom adjustments to images to compensate to the viewing angle, resolution required for viewing distance, calibrating resolution, stereo photography, scanning slit cameras, swingback cameras, pinhole cameras, projection systems etc.
Difficult read, wealth of info.......2001-04-12
On the otherhand, it was worth the 6 months it took me to read it. The book is an education on optics with allot of hard to find information that is relevant to all types of photographic and projection systems. It is a good book to have for reference.
