Product Description
The 1964 Caldecott Medal Winner for the Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year by Maurice Sendak. Brian O'Doherty of The New York Times said the Mr. Sendak's work "disguised in fantasy, springs from his earliest self, from the vagrant child that lurks in the heart of all of us."
Amazon.com
Where the Wild Things Are is one of those truly rare books that can be enjoyed equally by a child and a grown-up. If you disagree, then it's been too long since you've attended a wild rumpus. Max dons his wolf suit in pursuit of some mischief and gets sent to bed without supper. Fortuitously, a forest grows in his room, allowing his wild rampage to continue unimpaired. Sendak's color illustrations (perhaps his finest) are beautiful, and each turn of the page brings the discovery of a new wonder.
The wild things--with their mismatched parts and giant eyes--manage somehow to be scary-looking without ever really being scary; at times they're downright hilarious. Sendak's defiantly run-on sentences--one of his trademarks--lend the perfect touch of stream of consciousness to the tale, which floats between the land of dreams and a child's imagination.
This Sendak classic is more fun than you've ever had in a wolf suit, and it manages to reaffirm the notion that there's no place like home.

Still As Good.......2007-09-26
I grew up just loving this book. I think it havd more influence on my imagination than any other book.
I recently had a son and purchased this book to read with him and it is just as entertaining after all these years.
Timeless Tale Is Sheer Magic!.......2007-09-19
What child hasn't dreamed of being a wild animal, untamed and free? Of having no boundaries or restrictions?
In the magical world of a young boy's imagination, a wonderland can blossom. Sent to bed without supper for misbehaving, the unrepentant and spirited Max lets his imagination soar. His bedroom transformed into an exotic wilderness, Max sets sail across a deep blue sea to where the "wild things" are. After taming all of these fearsome monsters (turns out, he's the wildest of them all), the newly crowned "king of all wild things" leads them on quite a romp....until the lonely boy decides to return to the place where he is loved.
This journey into imagination is wonderful, whimsical and extraordinary. Small wonder that "Wild Things" was named the Caldecott Medal Winner for the Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year in 1964. Author/Illustrator Maurice Sendak has created a timeless classic - one which will always be among my personal favorites.
FUN!.......2007-09-19
Read as a child myself, who does not have this book?? If you don't-- get one! My children love it, I love it, even my husband loves it! It's fun, fun, fun! And kids LOVE to act it out quoting verbatim after reading for the 123rd time! Must have for the family library! (hang onto it even after they've grown, let them have it to read to their kids!)
Wonderful, imaginative book.......2007-09-15
This is a great children's book and is on many top lists, won numerous awards, etc. It is a wonderful, typical Sendak-style story where something scary is not so scary after all. Great for girls and boys!
Something different.......2007-09-08
I like reading this story to my little girl. She loves the unique pictures and the story line makes her giggle. It is something different than the normal fairy tale stories, which I happen to be sick of. I think it is a fun book for both me and my little girl to read.
Book Description
Zane's erotic writing has captivated a legion of fans. Her previous short story collection, The Sex Chronicles: Shattering the Myth, not only became a bestseller but also delivered fully on its promise -- exploding the myth that men are more sexual in nature than women, and that African-American women are particularly inhibited. Now, this second volume of Sex Chronicles, Gettin' Buck Wild, is Zane's hottest collection yet. Smart, witty, and extremely sexy, with all-new characters and settings, these stories are tailored to women -- but perfect for lovers to share.
Scenarios run the gamut from committed, monogamous couples looking to experiment to wild, single sisters who form a very unconventional sorority. You'll meet a high-paid multi-tasking career woman who gets her groove back in "When Opposites Attract." You'll take a ride with an adventurous couple who try something new in "The Subway -- A Quickie." You'll discover a new way of celebrating Christmas in "The Santa Claus." Spicing up real-life scenarios with over-the-top sexual fantasy, Zane gives readers the best time they've ever had between the pages of a book.

Zane is back with Gettin' Buck Wild: Sex Chronicles II, more stories for the legion of readers that made The Sex Chronicles a bestseller. Zane's erotic short stories have captivated the minds of both sexes and all races. The Sex Chronicles: Shattering the Myth did exactly what its title implies - exploded the myth that men are more sexual in nature than women, and that African-American women in particular are inhibited compared to their female counterparts of other cultures. Her audience is growing by leaps and bounds, nurtured by her Internet site and her previous bestselling titles, including The Heat Seekers, her debut in hardcover. Zane knows exactly what her readers want, and in Gettin' Buck Wild she gives them some of her most provocative prose to date. Her characters and settings run the gamut from committed, monogamous couples looking to experiment, to the wild single sisters who belong to a very unconventional sorority. Zane tells the story of a high-paid multi-tasking career woman who gets her groove back in "When Opposites Attract," a couple who try something new in "The Subway - A Quickie,"" and a new way of celebrating Christmas in "The Santa Claus." She spices up real-life scenarios with over-the-top sexual fantasy and ultimately gives her readers the best time they've ever had between the pages of a book. With all-new characters and settings, Gettin' Buck Wild is Zane's hottest collection of stories yet. Smart, witty and extremely sexy, this second volume of Sex Chronicles is tailored to women - but perfect for lovers to share.

Book Description
"Shaping Things is about created objects and the environment, which is to say, it's about everything," writes Bruce Sterling in this addition to the Mediawork Pamphlet series. He adds, "Seen from sufficient distance, this is a small topic."
Sterling offers a brilliant, often hilarious history of shaped things. We have moved from an age of artifacts, made by hand, through complex machines, to the current era of "gizmos." New forms of design and manufacture are appearing that lack historical precedent, he writes; but the production methods, using archaic forms of energy and materials that are finite and toxic, are not sustainable. The future will see a new kind of object -- we have the primitive forms of them now in our pockets and briefcases: user-alterable, baroquely multi-featured, and programmable -- that will be sustainable, enhanceable, and uniquely identifiable. Sterling coins the term "spime" for them, these future manufactured objects with informational support so extensive and rich that they are regarded as material instantiations of an immaterial system. Spimes are designed on screens, fabricated by digital means, and precisely tracked through space and time. They are made of substances that can be folded back into the production stream of future spimes, challenging all of us to become involved in their production. Spimes are coming, says Sterling. We will need these objects in order to live; we won't be able to surrender their advantages without awful consequences.
The vision of Shaping Things is given material form by the intricate design of Lorraine Wild. Shaping Things is for designers and thinkers, engineers and scientists, entrepreneurs and financiers -- and anyone who wants to understand and be part of the process of technosocial transformation.
Customer Reviews:
Techno-futuristic ruminations on "spimes" and sustainability.......2007-08-31
Type a few words into Google and you can find a sushi restaurant, a movie theater, concert tickets or a new car. But if you misplace your car keys in your house, you still have to search the old-fashioned way: room by room, cushion by cushion, coat pocket by coat pocket. If Bruce Sterling is correct, though, one day you'll Google your keys. And your shoes. And your dog. This is the nascent "Internet of things" made possible by technology, including such items as radio frequency ID tags and traceable product life cycle management. That is where technology is going: to the interactive "spime," Sterling's term for objects that will arrive with data attached. In this visually arresting novella-sized essay, Sterling riffs on a number of scenarios, from customized-to-order cell phones to products that "know" how much carbon their construction required. His aphoristic prose seems at times like madness, but there's method in it: Sterling urges designers to make beautifully sustainable products rather than more proto-trash. We believe his book could reform your ideas about design and provide a stock of carbon-neutral insights you can deliver to your colleagues over a recyclable cup filled with shade-grown coffee.
This book is a little too short. .......2007-08-08
This book is 'wafer thin', I would recommend John ThakorsIn the Bubble: Designing in a Complex World instead, it is goes into a lot more depth, but is still a sci-fi.
A tool, in a way..........2007-07-19
This is such a short read, and such a good read - it really is a tool, more of a reminder. The way some people put a model of their dream car on their desk, to remind them their goal, this book should be kept around, read once or twice a year to remind oneself to put purpose, intelligence, and diligence into what you create. I think I'll start giving copies of this to new employees...
Setting the agenda.........2006-12-15
If you're looking for a book on sustainable design, the intertwining of the informational and the material, and RFID, look no further.
Sterling's account is more than a book for designers. Though some angles tend to originate from design-related topics, the implications and responsibilities pertaining to design cannot belong to a community of designers per se.
That's a pretty self-evident idea of course, but allow me to elucidate.
When Sterling argues that "we need a designed metahistory", this pertains to the idea that the information that is related to objects / spimes / shaping things needs to be designed. Given the fact that more and more objects are tagged, and thereby enrolled in a global information architecture, this implies that 'design' has the ability to influence the way we relate to object-data.
And this is by no means a scenario that is sci-fi: take the EPCglobal architecture as an example. Sterling is perfectly aware of this.
For me, the book provided a framework in which many more things can be deployed.. But I suppose the book's effects will depend on the mindset of the reader. The capacity of the book to create new concepts and new levels of thought is obviously there. To me, the ability of a written work to do this is what makes a book great.
important work for more than just designers..........2006-06-05
...or perhaps it's just that "design" is an extremely broad category. Sterling presents a futurity that is at once realistic and utopian, frightening and hopeful.
This book would be useful for not just anyone designing anything, but anyone concerned with the future, how to achieve real sustainability, or how all that geeky stuff (you occasionally read about in the Wired you pick up at the airport) will really effect you.
I agree with another reviewer that the actual print design of the book is a hindrance, which is ironic; my distaste for it was only made worse by having already heard Sterling brag on it during a talk. But even with this beef, I have to give it a full five stars based on the content alone.

Great book for birders.......2007-02-21
This is a great book for anyone interested in backyard birding, no matter what size your backyard may be. There are articles on how to attract, feed, and house different birds.
Fun.......2007-02-16
I like this book. I'm a new bird watcher. I've made some of the projects mentioned in this book and they work quite well.
Excellent book for bird-loving gardeners!.......2007-01-12
Numerous, easy to follow instructions on how to create wide variety of projects! Includes illustrations also. Must have for those that want to attract birds to their gardens without spending a fortune buying items ready-made. Would be a good resource for those wanting to learn how to make garden produces to sell also.
Projects for the Birder's Garden.......2006-11-28
The book arrived promptly and was a good bargain price. It had very good information on attracting and taking care of birds.
GREAT ADDITION TO YOUR LIBRARY - RECOMMEND HIGHLY.......2005-09-07
I have been a "birder" for over 45 years and a gardener (in a very sloppy, haphazard way) for just about as long. This is a wonderul work that fits well into my hobbies. It is simple, practical and a joy to work with. As another reviewer pointed out, the ideas put forth in this book actually work! I was also thrilled that most of these projects were ones that my four grandsons were more than able to help with and in doing so, actually taught them something. I happen to live in a rural area, infact, I live in the middle of the woods. Most of the projects in this book were non-intrusive and blended in well with the natural look that my wife and I strive for. Recommend you add this one to your library. Now if I can just train my nine barn cats......

Book Description
This volume emphasizes an aspect of children's picture books that has not yet been thoroughly investigated: structure. Both concept books and picture storybooks employ very distinctive structures that, once mastered, can be applied to any picture book you wish to write. When so many of the best picture books employ the same structures, it is important to analyze these structures, understand why they work, and learn how to incorporate them into your own writing. This volume helps you do all that. You will see that no matter how carefully you labor over the tone, word choice, plot, character, setting, theme and style of your picture book, you must have a thorough grasp of its structure if you wish your book to succeed. Indeed, you will find that an expert command of structure is the key to writing a successful children's picture book.
Customer Reviews:
How to write a Children's Picture Book.......2007-03-22
The book takes popular children's book and breaks apart the beginning, middle and ending so that you get a very clear picture of how your story should progess. An excellent resource.
A Constant Companion.......2007-01-02
Eve Heidi Bine-Stock's HOW TO WRITE A CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK (VOLUMES I, II and III)is a constant companion and rich resource in the planning and revision of picture books. The deconstruction of picture books, and the detailed classification of crucial characteristics - using classic picture books to illustrate each detailed point - make these books invaluable. Although I particularly use Volume I and II in the planning stage of a new manuscript, all three volumes are again by my side during each revision, and each step of each revision. There is no question in my mind that these books are the biggest resource in pushing my writing to the next level. The volumes are not read-once-and-put-aside books; they are books you will want on your writing desk for constant reference.
Practical, Easy-to-use.......2004-11-11
As an author of many books for children, I found this book to be one of the most practical and helpful tools to format a picture book during the writing process. I'm already using the techniques to structure new projects to make my picture book manuscripts shine! I plan on recommending it to my critique group as well as buying copies as gifts for my writer friends.
A "must-have" for any aspiring children's picturebook writer.......2004-06-07
How To Write A Children's Picture Book focuses especially upon structure as the key to creating a memorable and entertaining treasure for children to read, share, and learn from. Distinguishing between picturebooks and picture storybooks, and closely examining such enduring children's classics as "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and "Where The Wild Things Are", How To Write A Children's Picture Book is a highly useful and focused guide that dissects the nuts and bolts of writing with a keen eye toward higher achievement and quality. A "must-have" for any aspiring children's picturebook writer.
Anyone who writes for children needs this book!.......2004-04-20
Eve Bine-Stock has written a completely useful book. She's gone beyond all the ordinary advise found elsewhere and examined the actual structure of a picture story book. Her method of diagramming a story and reducing it to its essential elements will prove invaluable to those who craft tales for children. In years to come, many writers will be able to look back and attribute their success to the simple and effective methods she outlines here. Highly recommended!

Book Description
New York Times bestselling authors Maggie Shayne and Marjorie Liu join two hot talents in an anthology of all-new sexy paranormal romance.
New York Times bestselling authors Maggie Shayne and Marjorie M. Liu, and sizzling newcomers Alyssa Day and Meljean Brook discover the wild instinct in everyone with four all-new stories of feral heat. Fans will get swept away by the passions in the unfathomable depths of Atlantis; they'll follow the shadows that stalk both the living and the undead in a world of vampires and guardian angels; they'll enter the forbidden world of the demon horde and their willing victims; and they'll be privy to the secrets of a beautiful animal-whisperer who's drawn closer to the most suspect of all male animals-man.
Customer Reviews:
Excellent anthology..........2007-07-08
Paranormal fans rejoice! Four exceptional authors have joined forces to create a fabulous anthology with WILD THING.
Maggie Shayne opens up this anthology with "Animal Magnetism". Macy McNamara is an excellent veterinarian but she has a secret: Macy can communicate with animals. Unfortunately, this talent puts her in jeopardy when Detective Jay Harris enlists her help with an injured dog who has witnessed a brutal crime.
Maggie Shayne takes readers through a gamut of emotions with "Animal Magnetism". She sharply contrasts the brutality of the rapes with the charm and unconditional love of the dogs, particularly with Cassie. The romance between Macy and Jay is extraordinarily well done and I love the witty repartee between the two of them. Maggie Shayne provides some clever but very dark and shocking twists in this phenomenal tale.
"Paradise" by Meljean Brook is yet another entry in her Guardians series. Someone is killing vampires and Guardian Selah is determined to put a stop to it. But first she must enlist the help of Lucas Marsden, leader of the vampire community in Ashland. Lucas is devastated by his guilt after one of the recent deaths. Will Selah and Lucas be able to stop the terror stalking the vampires or will Lucas' guilt overwhelm him instead?
Meljean Brook has created a fascinating world. The depth and complexity of her world building leaves me literally in awe as I want to know more. There are some continuing characters from her other Guardians' book and I think readers who have read her previous books in the series will probably appreciate the characters more as a result.
Marjorie M. Liu introduces readers to "Hunter Kiss". Maxine has a unique gift that enables her to hunt demons. She thought she knew the pattern her life would take but meeting Grant Cooperon turns her whole world upside down.
"Hunter Kiss" is the first story in a new urban fantasy series and wow, what a start! Marjorie M. Liu teases the reader with fascinating tidbits about this phenomenal new world while still providing a very satisfying short story. I love the gumption of Maxine and the entire concept behind the tattoos is perhaps one of the cleverest things I have ever read. "Hunter Kiss" is a tantalizing tale that promises readers a new series that is sure to be a hit.
Alyssa Day concludes this anthology with "Wild Hearts in Atlantis". As one of the Warriors of Poseidon, Bastien considers himself more brawn than brains so he's horrified when he is sent to be a liaison between the Atlanteans and the shape-shifters. His contact is the fiery shape-shifter Kat Fiero, a woman he hasn't been able to forget since their first encounter. Will another one of the Warriors of Poseidon lose his heart?
Alyssa Day really hits her stride in this second story in the Warriors of Poseidon series. Bastien's story incorporates all of the best elements of this complex but very intriguing world. The first book in the series, ATLANTIS RISING, set the stage for the conflicts between all of the various factions within the supernatural community and "Wild Hearts in Atlantis" directly follows up on those uneasy relationships. If you haven't read ATLANTIS RISING, be forewarned that "Wild Hearts in Atlantis" reveals much of the finale from the book. Alyssa Day has solidified me as one of her fans with this very solid sequel!
WILD THING is one of those rare anthologies in which every story provides an interesting twist to the more traditional paranormal themes. There are no dull moments in this anthology! WILD THING is definitely a must read for fans who like their stories on the dark side of paranormal. Easily recommended!

Fun but pricy.......2007-03-31
This stationery set is really fun, especially if you are a fan of "Where the Wild Things Are." There isn't a lot that's included for the price, though. The design on the back of the stationery makes it nearly impossible to write on, so plan on only using one side of the paper.
Wonderful Stationary Set for any "Wild Things" Lover!.......2004-08-15
I bought this item because I love the book "Where the Wild Things Are". I think this item can be enjoyed and used by any age group. The paper used is extra think and of excellent quality. The colors are very rich and vivid ... even the postcards are outstanding and could be used for framing or other fun projects for kids. This is very possibly the best stationary set I've ever bought and would recommend this to anyone!
Book Description
A fabulously fun collection of spirited stories, scintillating sidebars, and oh-so-quotable quips, It's a Chick Thing pays homage to the special and unique times that strengthen the bonds of female friendships---the antics, escapades, and thrill seeking---as well as the loyalty, sisterly support, and irrepressible humor.
Read about Dolly Parton's "biker chick" escapades with her girlfriend gang, Hell's Belles; Diana and Fergie's hilarious night on the town during Prince Andrew's bachelor party; and the time Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn faced down the Coal Miner's Daughter's detractors. Meet women like Cirque du Chien, a pack of party-loving Francophiles who dress up like French poodles; La Bella Mafia, self-proclaimed divas who right wrongs and overdress for every occasion; and a bevy of sisters and friends who take over the backyard playhouse for parties and girl talk. Full of irreverent fun, candid observations, and shameless merrymaking, It's a Chick Thing is the perfect gift for each and every one of your best gal pals. Chickcentric lists include "Chicks Who Rock," "Chick Reads," "Chick Flicks," and "Chick Cliques." "Wonderful - a must read for all women of substance!" - Jill Conner Browne, author of The Sweet Potato Queens' Book of Love"Smart. Sassy. Tons of Fun. It's a Chick Thing is my new best friend," says Cameron Tuttle, author of The Bad Girl's Guide to the Open Road.

Based on Wendy Block's review, I'd guess that she hasn't had a date since some dweeb stood her up at her High School Prom. Get a life honey! This is a book that's lots of fun -- and I'm not even a chick (I borrowed my wife's copy).

We miss you Leroy!.......2007-08-31
It's hard to review this book. I read it while The Police were in full Reunion Tour and old Police Fans were feeling the cruelty of Ian and Kim Turner precocious deaths.
Ian was a force, he wasn't perfect and he knew it, but nontheless he tried to do his best.... and what best! Along with his brother Miles he created a new way of managing music and musicians, against all odds.
The book alternates moments of fun, of tragedy, of description of the secrets behind the musical scenes.... hilarious scenes, along with Viet Nam tales.
My perspective on music business has been confirmed by this great book. And now I'm sure The Police have always been 4: Sting, Stewart, Andy & Ian. Yes, Miles was obviously important: Ian was determinative.
We miss you so much Leroy.....
an inside account of the music business.......2006-10-11
Ian Copeland, brother and booking agent of The Police's Stewart Copeland, gives an amazingly detailed description of what it takes to manage a band and put them on the road. It's a very complicated process. I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this, but I was instantly enthralled. I had presumed it was going to be just another third person account of the antics of The Police, but I was wrong. Ian is no name-dropper. Instead, he takes you on a journey, from growing up in foreign lands to watching his brother play sold-out stadiums, the drugs, the women, the cruel machine that is the music industry. I got this book when it first came out, and never had the chance to tell Ian how good it is - he passed away earlier this year. However, it remains a treasured part of my library.
Ian Copeland 1949-2006.......2006-05-25
That's why this book is ranked so high today, I'm sure.
I read the book when it first came out; my main interest was his role in the ascent of R.E.M., then at the top of the pop music heap, but it was an excellent autobiography of an interesting and eclectic person.
In later years, he owned a restaurant, and his death was due to melanoma, a tragic and nearly hopeless form of cancer.
Get ready for a wild ride!.......2005-01-08
Warning: reading this book may be hazardous to your sleeping patterns. Why? Because it's nearly impossible to put down once you begin Ian's tale, and you may find yourself staying up all night to finish it in one sitting.
Ian Copeland is a fabulous storyteller, and in this book he takes us on an exciting journey through his life and times, from his youthful adventures in the Middle East, through Vietnam, and then into the music scene of the 70's as the rock dinosaurs were dying out to be replaced by a "new wave" of young musicians. The Copeland brothers Miles, Stewart and Ian would each have a tremendous influence on the development of rock music in the late 70s and 80s, and reading Ian's inspirational story of hard-fought success will provide you with great insight into how it all came about.
Don't read this book if you are a Police fan simply looking for insight into that band only; although they certainly play a part in Ian's story, it is only one chapter in a much greater adventure. Read this book if you are looking to be inspired about what a person can accomplish with determination, and the self-confidence to break out of how he's told things should be done to instead find his own way.
Travels With Leroy.......2000-12-08
As a Police fan back in the 1980s, I scanned the fanzines constantly for any news of my musician-heroes. Years later, with "Roxanne" fading into pop history, I was happy to find this book by Ian Copeland. I thought it was going to be one of those pretentious rock operas by a desperate ex-groupie, with details only a narcissist would care about, and enough sex, drugs, and rock and roll to disillusion the most ardent fan.
Fortunately, Ian was able both to sustain my interest and to increase my respect for him and his talented family. The Copelands must be one of the most fascinating and successful families in American history: Miles, founding member of the CIA; his wife, Lorraine, an archaeologist; eldest son, Miles, entrepreneur, manager, and founder of IRS records; Stewart, legendary drummer and founder of The Police; and Ian (nicknamed Leroy), the problem child in an already problematic family, who founded a talent agency that introduced some of the biggest rock, punk, and new wave acts of the `80s and `90s. Of the Vassar-educated sister, Lennie, we hear little: How did she hold her own among the rambunctious, egocentric Copeland brothers?
Despite Ian's portrayal of himself as the black sheep of the family, he was far too bright and resourceful -- or lucky -- to fall into the traps of rock and roll life, or into those that ensnared his delinquent, biker friends in Beirut, his childhood home. He had what Hemingway called "a built-in b.s. detector" which helped him survive Beirut, London, Vietnam, and the music industry. Wild thing? Sometimes, but not as wild as some.
By now it should be obvious that this is an unusual story. Ian was a wayward youth who was constantly asking, and being asked, what he was going to do with his life. Combine his tendency for slight rebellion, his CIA father, archaeologist mother, and numerous exotic locales, and you have a memoir that often reads like an adventure story. I think a variety of readers will find it entertaining.
