NRSV translation.
Customer Reviews:
Devotional Bible... maybe. Study Bible... no!.......2007-05-28
I bought this book looking for a good study Bible. I was very impressed by the previous literature of Richard Foster and Dallas Willard. The Renovare Study Bible has essays that are profitable and the introduction to the books and different sections of the Old and New Testament are well written.
However, the in-text commentary really falls short of its goal as a "Study" Bible. There is little or no cultural, historical, or practical context in the various authors' comments to aid the explication of text. This Study Bible succeeds in highlighting Biblical principles of Formation outlined by the Renovare group, but little intellectual stimulation is offered for the curious mind.
Read the Celebration of Discipline to procure with pith and cogency what the in-text commentary of the Renovare Study Bible offers with cursory and inadequate explanation.
Note, I am coming from the perspective of wanting a STUDY Bible, the Renovare Study Bible could very well be what you are looking for if you desire a Devotional Bible.
review of the Renovare Bible.......2007-01-10
This Bible is a perfect compliment to my spiritual direction of practicing the deeper Christian walk through the disciplines of the faith. I have read all the authors that contributed to this verson and respect their wisdom and scholarship and Christian personal lives.
Great Gift for Yourself or Others.......2007-01-04
We used this book for a gift for a high school graduate and will use it again with future graduates. It was also recommended by our pastor. The commentary is excellent for young people seeking to make their way through the world in a way that is pleasing to God.
What a pleaure.......2006-09-04
Having this provides one with a fine translation and solid opportunity for interpretation and application.
I was leary about the last part, since often that can be sappy. Not so here.
Selecting a Bible is hard. I have decided that for me, a hard bound book is best and worth any extra cost. Get one like this and add tabs. It is one big book.
Shortcoming: No index. But with so much else, an index may have been hard to add.
A great find after much looking.
Spirituality.......2006-08-07
The Spiritual Formation Bible is enlightening - with tons of insights, prayer suggestions etc. A great Bible for your study or for just reading.
Book Description
In an evocative sequel to the acclaimed New Orleans: Elegance and Decadence, author and photographer Richard Sexton returns with an in-depth visual journey through the hidden mansions—some inhabited, many now long abandoned—of Louisiana's River Road. Bordering the Mississippi, these antebellum landmarks were once the epitome of gracious living in the Deep South. Over the past century, these grand dwellings have slowly succumbed to time, humidity, and the reclamation of the land: first by nature, then by real-estate developers who built subdivisions, oil refineries, and strip malls where curtains of Spanish moss once swayed from the live oaks. This collection—featuring over 200 haunting color photographs with extensive captions explaining the architectural significance and history of each structure—is a beautiful elegy for a rapidly disappearing landscape and its ghosts.

Amazing Pictoral Tour of River Road.......2007-05-05
This is a gorgeous book full of information and amazing photos of some of the most prominent plantations that are on River Road between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Some of the most amazing photos were from plantations that have all but been destroyed. I'd be really interested to see an updated version as some of these homes have been completely transformed since these photos were taken. Most noteably would be Houmas House and Laura which both in this book are nothing like their now restored selves. Regardless, this book is an excellent addition to anyone's plantation library or coffee table!
GREAT BOOK FOR BOTH THE COFFEETABLE AND THE MIND!.......2006-03-18
I was born and raised on the River Road. I have grown up and almost all of the wonders in this book. Nothing comes close to the accuracy and beauty captured in these photos. I would HIGHLY reccomend this book to anyone that would want to know or learn about the grand homes along the Mississippi and South Louisiana. This book is second to none in my rating. A MUST HAVE and a MUST OWN for EVERYONE!
Thoroughly enjoyable!.......2005-08-29
This is a fantastic coffe table book. This book is all about the pictures, with interesting text to accompany each image. Pictures are loveley, colour and large. If you are considering buying a copy without the dustjacket- go for it, as the cover image is on the underneath as well.
A great addition to any bookshelf or coffee table, my family have all had a look!
Most in depth book about River Road Architecture.......2003-07-02
I am fascinated with New Orleans and the River Road area and it's history .This has to be one of the best publications about this subject. Sexton seems to capture so much of it's history in the pages of this book, more so than any other author has. The photography is also wonderful and straight forward. I recommend it to any one who wants to learn more about southern Louisiana plantations.
A FINE TRIBUTE TO RIVER ROAD!!!!!.......2002-05-16
Although I've never been on River Road I feel this book brought me an authentic glimpse of life during the plantation era. The photographs are amazing and the book kept me spellbound for hours!! What fascinanted me most was how some plantations looked as if their inhabitants literally walked out the door and never looked back. Fine furniture, pictures, personal posessions were just left to slowly rot under leaky ceilings and caving roofs. On my next trip to New Orleans I will make it a priority to take a trip down River Road.

Customer Reviews:
This is an outstanding textbook on capital budgeting........1999-10-31
Eugene Grant's textbook offers a sound, theoretically accurate, and mathematically rigorous treatment of the economic analysis of investment projects (capital budgeting). Though a bit more verbose than Harold Bierman Jr's classic work, Eugene Grant provides an abundant quantity of demanding end-of-chapter problems that will turn the diligent student into a capital budgeting expert.
The text and the style of writing is somehow difficult........1999-04-17
What I want to mention hear is not aboat the contents of the book. I found the text and the style of writing somehow difficult for someone who knows English as a second language. Although my English is good, I still had some problems. My friends who are not so strong in English had lots of problems and many of them failed to finish the book. All in all, compared to other books from the publisher, the text is difficult and has to be simplified. I hope for the next edition of the book, the publisher and writers would take it into acount.
Book Description
Once upon a time, in the first half of the twentieth century, photography was considered a purely mechanical art--if it was considered an art at all. Carlo Mollino's Message From the Darkroom, originally published in Italy in 1949 and now one of the most coveted books in the history of photography, was one of the first strikes against that attitude, and one of the most visually extraordinary. In 323 plates illustrating the work of 132 photographers and nine painters, Mollino traced a history of the form and the evolution of taste over the years, highlighting the work of Nadar and Hill, Atget, Alvarez Bravo and Man Ray, with a chapter dedicated to each. An equal number of pages are allotted to mastery of photographic techniques, including retouching, as every means to make the print coincide with the artist's vision was legitimate in Mollino's eyes--even required. For work to reach the status of art and communicate the artist's message, it needed to move beyond the accidentally "beautiful" through crafted "subjective transformations." Message From the Darkroom is also a fundamental text in understanding Mollino's own development as a photographer--his work, like the book's first edition, is now widely collected. Here for the first time, this early plea for the acceptance of photography among the higher arts is being published in English. The new edition replicates the original, as designed by Mollino himself, with color tipped-in images again pasted in by hand. Limited quantities available.

Book Description
This title is a substantial revision of one of the leading textbooks designed for the statistical quality control course taught in departments of industrial engineering, operations research and statistics . While maintaining its already successful writing style and pedagogy, this title has also incorporated key organizational changes in order to reflect recent trends in the field. The text features large quantity of examples and student problems and a strong introduction to the proper use and misuse of control charts. In this edition several chapters were streamlined, and consolidations and profitability were brought forward in the text. There is new material on experimental design, a reduced emphasis on acceptance sampling, and enhanced attention to the managerial and organizational aspects of quality control. Free SPC expert software is packaged with the text for use as a statistical and graphical tool. Text plus 3.5" diskette.
Customer Reviews:
the book that started it all, price insane.......2007-07-17
5 star for the book. 1 star for the price.
This can be considered THE classic on the subject. It is also well written, explaining exactly what one is trying to achieve and how statistics fit that bill. As a newbie on the subject and not being a fan of math, I found this book the best explanation for the entire concept of using statistic and sampling to achieve certain levels of quality. Perhaps because it starts at the very beginning of the issue of quality and consistency, it is easy to grasp.
I wanted to point out that McGraw Hill sells this book in forign markets, still in english, for less than ten bucks, paperback version. Given that, I strongly suggest one hunt around the net.
Painful to use........2006-06-20
This book is horrible.
This book is outdated (it comes with a floppy disk that I havn't found to work on any computer). It also provides very few examples as to grasp what is being talked about in the material. There are also (from the limited answers provided) answers that are wrong. This book is also extremely expensive for the amount of material provided. I have seen many books provide much more information for half the price.
Just thought I'd chip in my own two cents since the other reviews seem oddly impresonal and similar (the two that are different).
Undisputably the best for practitioners in this field!.......1999-08-10
This book has been around for about half a century, yet it is still the very best among just about as many similar titles in SQC. It is full of statistical and practical insights into all that a quality practitioner needs to know about the subject. I used the book as a student, and am still using it as a professor, and as an Academician of the International Academy for Quality.

A Qaulity Control Engineer's desk reference.......1997-11-16
It has not been easy to find a book on Quality Control which covers all the basics and depth on this subject. This is ONE book which I strongly recommend to all readers who wish to analyse the different methods in Statistical Quality Control. Many readers, will be surprised, just like me on the depth of the material. The organisation and presentation of the material is first class. Although this book is usable in college level teaching in this subject, but I find it much more meaningful as a practicing guide. The writers have demonstrated their wealth of knowledge in this book. I guarded it as a MUST read book for practioner in SQC.
Book Description
A compelling portrait of three communities penetrated by drugs and isolation: East New York, North Philadelphia, and the Red Hook housing projects in Brooklyn, New York.
With a chilling and informative afterword by Dr. Stephen W. Nicholas, who works as a pediatric AIDS physician in Harlem, Cocaine True, Cocaine Blue reveals how first steps toward solutions to overcome the drug trade have actually contributed to public denial and further isolation of the trapped communities. Cocaine True, Cocaine Blue is a history of our times, a compelling, terrifying document that will educate us and promote dialogue, a first step toward affecting change.

Awesome! .......2007-02-04
Mr. Richards is America's greatest living photojournalist. The depth of his social commitment to his subjects is equaled only by his amazing ability to compose the picture perfectly.
A documentary must have!.......2001-08-20
Eugene Richards, one of the worlds best photojournalist, has a gift to not only photograph well but also write about his subjects equally as well! He shows the world a part of this world many do not see nor wish to see. This is one of those photo books that a good photographer must have to essentially help to chisel a path in the photography world for themselves! Taking this style to learn and grow from! One can learn much by the raw and realness of Richard's Cocaine life pictorial!
His best.......2001-01-03
Cocaine true, Cocaine Blue represents the best of Eugene Richards. If Robert Capa's maxim about your pictures being close to be good is true, then Richards work is hands down about as close as anyone is getting.
This book focuses on the impact of crack cocaine in three eastern cities -- North Philadelphia, Harlem, and Red Hook, New Jersey.
Richards seems to have none of the fear that would stop most people, because his pictures bring a viewer over the comfort line to become shocking. The scenes exceed imagination. In fact, one of his pictures in this book was challenged for its authenticity because it seemed almost too perfect... In it, a women pauses to look at her John, her hands on his zipper, with her young child watching her. On a wall behind her, a picture of Martin Luther King, Jr. is displayed. Some black political leaders saw this picture and insisted that Richards must have set it up. He could only assert that he was truthful in his portrayal.
Truth is always stranger than fiction. This might be photojournalism's answer to magical realism: there is a wickedness and abandon to this world. The cover picture is another example -- the photograph shows an addict holding a syringe in his mouth. His eyes gleam in a way that suggests the insanity in the spirit of this individual.
Richards is for the most part a photographer who works inside America. Some domestic photographers lament that all of the best photographs are made in wars, and that the situations in our home communities preclude us from being able to make great pictures. Eugene Richards shows how this is false. He takes horrifying pictures in Long Island, in Philadelphia, in West Virginia, in Kansas City.

Book Description
A rigorously researched, wickedly witty, and eminently useful collection of over 5,000 Briticisms (and Americanisms).
Customer Reviews:
Best reference of its type.......2007-02-24
I write sophisticated Harry Potter fanfic, but I'm an American and I don't have much of a clue about British usages. I had been relying upon a number of Internet sources of greater or lesser quality before I saw Britisn English from A to Zed recommended in one of the writer's fora on Fictionalley. I bought it, and I must say it is smashing. There is no better reference work for American-British conversion available. It is comprehensive and understandable - also funny; I sometimes find myself just reading a series of entries for the humour value. I absolutely recommend this to anyone trying to write in the British style.
There are only two drawbacks. One, the indexing is rather rudimentary. It's sometimes hard to find what one wants. Second, it's rather dear - over $50 (£35) for a couple hundred pages in hardback. But, as it's a specialty work, I suppose the price is to be expected.
not complete.......2007-02-05
Even though there are about 4000 entries I can never find what I am looking for. These are words used in BBC and ITV programs and must be ordinary and not smutty, yet they are not listed.
A Brit view living in the USA.......2007-01-20
I work with an American organisation and we have many interesting conversations about the different languages (English v. American). I have great fun teaching them new words, such as Tickety-Boo which has become a well known phrase in my local work place. The book is very popular with the Americans (it is the standard gift from me when any of them leave) and provides far more 'translations' than many books written in a similar vein. I will certainly be ordering many more copies (I think I have given away 6 or 7 books so far).
Don't miss it.......2005-06-02
This is a must if you want to understand the English. I took it with me to Britain and found it very useful. Its dictionary format makes it easy to find the term you need. It also helps with things like gestures, not just words.
It will also help you understand what they are saying in British movies, translate what they say.
The book includes reference to other variants, like Australian. perhaps the author would like to develop this into a book specifically for American people traveling to Australia.
Don't miss it.......2005-06-02
Don't miss this book if you are going to Europe. It really bridges the language gap between America and Britain. It is packed with useful expressions for everyday communication in Britain. In adition to being very useful, this book is extremely entertaining, a lot of fun to read.
I am pleased I have bought this book and happy to recommend it to other travelers to Britain, 'on holiday' as they say or to do business.
Book Description
The Fat Baby is an epic collection of poignant and often controversial stories photographed and written by acclaimed social documentary photographer Eugene Richards (b.1944). The culmination of a dozen years of reporting, both on and off assignment, these stories, each one different in style and tone, immerse us in the lives of Honduran coffee growers, members of a Kansas City street gang, drought-plagued villagers from Niger, and doctors in an embattled Bosnian hospital. They chronicle the birth of a first child, an explosion of family violence, the struggle of a farm family to hang onto its ancestral home, and the unearthing of a half-hidden grave said to hold the remains of a slave. Described as having an acute, sometimes hard-edged visual sensibility and a literary voice, Richards writes in order to come to terms with the complexities of what he is observing. At a time when photojournalists are often relegated to illustrating the ideas of others, he persists in interweaving his words and photographs to create boldly narrative stories that bear witness to the dramas of real lives and comment on the times in which we live. Deeply personal and prodigious in scope, The Fat Baby is a tribute to the emotional power of photography and a celebration of storytelling.
Customer Reviews:
Stunning book.......2004-05-14
It is a deeply moving photojournalistic record of the highest probe. Painfully honest, profound, harsh, unnervingly personal and exceptionally remarkable, this book is one of the best on my own personal and yes, unfairly short list of truly great photographers.
To all aspiring photographers and to established practitioners, I would suggest that perhaps instead of searching for your own style or buying the latest tool in the growing digital photo arsenal -- save the money and get the Gene Richards? ?Fat Baby? collection published and printed with care by Phaidon Press.
Hopefully it will serve you well as a "lighthouse" showing you the right direction while you navigate in the frustrating, never-ending search for new assignments. Perhaps constantly reminding you of what powerful photojournalism can be when commercial compromises and opportunistic careers are not the only options.
