Book Description

Ultimate Bar Book is the first and only guide to classic and new drink recipes. Loaded with essential-to-know topics such as barware, tools, and mixing tips, this book has it all. As a mistress of mixology, the author has the classics down to a T the Martini, the Bloody Mary, plus the many variations (the Dirty Martini, the Virgin Mary). And then there are all the creative new elixirs the author brings to the table, like the Tasmanian Twister Cocktail or the Citron Sparkler. Illustrations show precisely what type of glass should be used for each drink. With dozens of recipes for garnishes, rims, infusions, and syrups; punches, gelatin shooters, hot drinks, and non-alcoholic beverages; and let's not forget an essential selection of hangover remedies, Ultimate Bar Book is nothing short of top-shelf.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Very good help.......2007-10-03

It's a very good bar book. It has helped me a lot. The only problem is that it should have and index for each liquor and its definition. Sometimes I have the name of a liquor and is hard to find where it says what it is. But the rest is perfect!

5 out of 5 stars Great looking book.......2007-08-13

I'm new to drinking. I love this book. It has a picture and description of different glasses and bar equipment. Each recipe shows what glass to use. Some recipes have other names the drink is known by or the history of the drink. This is an excellent book!

5 out of 5 stars The best bar book out there.......2007-06-19

I have over ten books that contain drink recipes and this is by far the best. It has tons of drink recipes. The drinks are all the standard names, rather than the crazy names in many books. It also has lots on information that is really unobtrusive, because what you really want when you buy a book like this is drink recipes.

It has a very nice cover. I've spilled stuff on it, and it's wiped right off. Plus, this book is nice enough that no matter how fancy-schmancy your bar is, then this book will fit right in.

It has illustrations of the kind of glass for every drink, which is very cool, because I can never remember what an old-fashioned glass is.

Also, it has sketches of all of the different kinds of bar equipment out there. I never knew there were five different kinds of wine openers, and they are a butler's friend, classic corkscrew, lever pull, screwpull, sommelier's corkscrew and a winged corkscrew. My new goal is to collect all five.

It also has different, cool information about the different alcohols. Like it talked about how Don Jose Maria Guadalupe Cuervo was the one who invented tequila in 1795. I love Cuervo tequila, so it was cool to know how it got started.

5 out of 5 stars Expansive Mixology Guide.......2007-04-14

The Ultimate Bar Book, at 450 pages, is as comprehensive as you are likely ever to need. It provides recipes to the classics and all of their variants, newly fashionable drinks, and provides rational commentary on the ingredients--whether to use the pricey ones or not, and what equivalents you might use. It even provides a guide to the barware for each drink.

The book is well constructed and attractive. Its enjoyable just to thumb through it, and to see what is in so many drinks. The mixing trends come out after a brief review of the many drinks--you can easily expand your cocktail repertoire without the fuss of mixing and failing several times.

I recommend the book as a basic bar staple. If you enjoy the art of "mixology," this is a fun sourcebook.

5 out of 5 stars Best book to start with or add to collection.......2007-04-04

This was my first book I bought to do with making drinks and I couldn't be happier. First of all, the book itself is amazing, great hard cover and beautiful pages. Next, the author really spends some time going over 101 of making drinks. Lastly, the recipes are very well put together along with side notes for variations and suggested substitutes. At the end, the author even gives drink recipes for morning after remedies. And again, I must point out the beauty of the book, sure it's hard to keep it open, but unless you are actually a professional bartender needing a spiral book, the Ultimate Bar Book is beautiful enough to just be a decorative item in the kitchen. It's also nice how the author will stop and take a minute to discuss the classic cocktails and their histories, etc. The author also takes breaks in the book to talk about the individual alcohol's themselves using elegant page colors and patterns. Funny enough, having this book now makes me want to go out and buy another bar book, but I actually can't find another one that meets the beauty, elegance, sophistication, amount of knowledge, insights gained, and completeness as the "Ultimate Bar Book: The Comprehensive Guide to Over 1,000 Cocktails".
Bravo! And I will be waiting for what will come next from Mittie Hellmich.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding resource for amateurs and pros alike.......2005-07-24

This is far and away the best all-around bartending guide I've seen. The authors go way beyond drink recipies and discuss history, glassware, bar equipment, and drink making technique. It's easy to read and understand. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Take It From A Pro.......2005-07-21

Well, I'm a professional bartender and was getting ready to order some more of "Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guides" for some of my bartender friends when I noticed the "pulpfoto" review and just felt I had to respond. I disagree with everything he said, and wonder if we have different books!

First of all, I haven't looked for a classic recipe I couldn't find in this book. And what's with the "Caesar" cocktail reference? First of all, Seagrams Bartending Guide doesn't even have a Caesar cocktail in it (and, by the way, no one's ever ordered a Caesar in this bar, and I've been here for 10 years). And the Seagrams book is no where near as user-friendly as this book because it lists the drinks by liquor-the "Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guide" lists them alphabetically, which means when a customer asks for a drink I'm not familiar with, I can flip it open and have the recipe at my fingertips in an instant. And, though I don't use it anymore, the Seagrams book doesn't sit on the bar at any better than this book. (I'm wondering if the "pulpfoto" guy wrote the Seagrams book and was trying to knock the ratings on this book down).

Bottom line: the "Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guide" delivers in a major way . . . from the classics to the newer cocktails. Plus lots of information on everything from ice to garnishes. It has everything you'll ever need to know on cocktails, whether you are a home bartender, or a beginning bartender, or one who's been in the biz for a decade, like me. In short, this book's a winner!

5 out of 5 stars This is a great book.......2005-07-16

I can't stand it. The Ultimate A-to-Z Bar guide is a great book and I'm confused by the "pulpfoto" review below-I think it is misleading. I've looked through the Seagram's Bartending Guide including the index for the last 15 minutes and I cannot find "Caesar." So if the review is based on this, then where is it? My version of the Seagram's book is 1995 (which seems old but it's the one where pupfoto's full review of the guide is listed. Also see the review of the Seagram's Guide where pulpfoto says "The Ultimate A-Z Bar Guide has a weird index where you need to know the main liquor involved before you can look up the drink!! What if you dont know?" Well, duh! As the name, the Ultimate A-to-Z Bar Guide, says it's A to Z so you look in the main body of the book. If you're looking for "Bushwhacker" look under the Bs, if you're looking for a "Knickerbocker Cocktail" look under the Ks. I think the four indexes are terrific and I have not seen another book like this where you can look up by 1-drinks by alcohol type, 2- drinks by primary non-alcoholic ingredient, 3-drinks by classic categories or 4-drinks by special category. The other reviewers have got it right.

2 out of 5 stars For home bars only!!.......2005-03-23

This book may have a lot of drinks, lots of recipes and some funny anecdotes...but as a professional bartender it has some serious flaws - it is in no way a complete bar guide - in fact it misses a few popular cocktails that I serve regularly - and these are not local specials but well known age old drinks!! Also it is paperback and doesnt sit well on the bar - I like a book that is gonna last and that is easy to work with. If you need to know the definition of a "barspoon" then this books has the answer - if you want to know how to make a Caesar then try Seagrams Bartending Guide!!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome!!!!!.......2003-08-10

Thsi book seriously owns!!!. Alot...and i mean ALOT of great recipes. This is the ultimate book for beginners. But theres alot more that just recipes and other extras like blood alcohol level charts, wine information, bar essentials such as glassware, tools and of course drinks, and much, much more. Now you may be like me right now reading this....why do i need all that baloney, i just want to make drinks. Well, to you I say if you do not get this book you are missing out. This stuff is interesting, and it can make you look really proffesional. Awesome buy...no regrets!!!!!

Book Description

In the mood for a Summer Hummer?
How about a French Flirt or a Neon Nexus?
or Maybe even a Sin City Slider?

This book includes these and 150 more cool cocktails for a crowd—everything from classics like Sangría, Martinis, and Manhattans, to newer favorites like Kamikazes and Mudslides, to international raves such as Brazil’s Caipirinha and Cuba’s Mojito, not to mention liquor-free variations. Plus, there’s information on mixing techniques, ingredients, equipment, and glassware, hangover helpers, tips on party food for non-cooks, and a user-friendly index that lists recipes by ingredients.

Serving pitcher drinks is an ingeniously effortless way to entertain and still have fun at your own party. It’s an idea whose time has come—in fact, it’s long overdue. No doubt about it, a premixed pitcher of drinks is a huge asset to any gathering. Making individual cocktails not only takes time, but removes you from the action. So mix up a batch of pitcher drinks and join in the party. They’re stylish, fun, and easy, and they definitely take the angst out of entertaining!

5 out of 5 stars When You Want to "Consume Mass Quantities".......2006-09-04

By Bill Marsano. "Pitcher Drinks: Cool Cocktails for a Crowd," by Sharon Tyler Herbst makes it clear that, frankly, there are few ways to have more fun than to slip into Margaritas-for-the-Mob Mode, which can mean mixing drinks in stock pots, buckets and if necessary washtubs (stirring with paddles is optional, but plenty of ice is mandatory). Herbst, an award-winning author of numerous books in the hospitality realm, is smart and reliable (the TV quiz "Jeopardy" uses her books as reference works). There are plenty of recipes, a good glossary of drink and bar terms, useful measuring equivalents, hangover cures for emergency use (she recommends not overdoing to begin with, which is always smart advice, so be sure to read her chapter on How to Light Up the Party Without Getting Lit), hints on what she blithely calls Garnishes and Fandangos, and more. In short, this book is all you'll need to get well started on the road to quality fun for quantities of friends. --Bill Marsano is a James Beard Award-winning writer on wines and spirits.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome drink ideas for many occasions.......2006-01-26

I have tried the mojito, soo refreshing! The rum rush punch and hurricane are tropical and I went through three batchs in one hour at a football party!! I'm going to try so many more. Good book for people who like to mkae big batchs of drinks for friends!!

5 out of 5 stars This book seriously rocks!.......2005-07-21

Maybe "Dracula Fan" needed some more blood in his bloody mary-something to nourish his rather small brain. Okay, I'm sorry to get personal, but his (or her) review just doesn't track.

This book seriously rocks! I've made most of the drinks in it over the past year . . . they're not only super EASY, but FUN and DELICIOUS! And as for the "no pictures" remark, well most of us haven't needed pictures to understand things since grade school-the recipes here are crystal clear. Besides, smart people know that photos pump up the price, and this book has 150 recipes for a very reasonable $10.36 (Amazon price). Yes, this book is small (5 x 7 inches), but it's packed not only with great recipes, but with loads of other information-from definitions of liqueurs and liquors, to measurement equivalents, to garnish ideas, and so on.

Too bad a dead-head review can knock down the rating of such a good book. I'm giving it 5 stars and it deserves it!

5 out of 5 stars What's with Dracula Fan????.......2005-07-16

I don't know where "Dracula Fan" was coming from with his/her 1-star review. Maybe the reviewer wanted to knock down the rating of this excellent book for some reason. Or maybe he or she is someone who has trouble following clear, concise recipes--after all, the reviewer can't even spell "recipes." I love this book--it's fun, stylish, and not at all hard to read. No, it doesn't have pictures, but it doesn't need them. The recipes are easy, VERY clear and every one makes perfect sense. More to the point, the drinks TASTE good and every single one we've made have been a huge hit with friends and family.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Fancy Drinks, but not very practical.......2005-01-10

Do yourself a favor and pass buy this book if you are a professional bartender. I wasted my money on this book in hopes of serving up some new and different drinks. Most drinks were not practical to make because they contain unusual and expensive ingredients. I feel it's more of a special occasion book and it ends up collecting more dust then actual use.

5 out of 5 stars ok, so it's not the classics.......2004-02-10

I mean, there are the classics in here, like cosmos. But most of these are party drinks--you know, the cool drinks you wish you knew some bartender could whip up for you. The punches are the best. The best! In fact, this is my second copy, because my first got so water-logged after too many parties. What a fun book. It's not that stuffy "what a cocktail is supposed to be" book. I mean, that's great--but this is for parties, like the ones that need big pitchers of drinks, whether with alcohol or now.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting book, but look out for bloopers........2004-01-28

Mr. Weinstein suggests serving a "Port in a Storm" (p. 174), a hot drink, on Father's Day. A hot drink in June? mmm... He also suggests serving the "Lemon Cheesecake Thick Shake" at a baby shower. With all due respect, Mr. Weinstein, ladies' parties generally feature chicken salad, diet soda, salad, and salad, and maybe a dessert. Most women wouldn't be caught dead drinking a milkshake in front of another woman. Although the drink suggestion for each type of party is a nice idea, I would find the drinks cumbersome to make, since most of the recipes serve one or two people. For a group, a punchbowl or pitcher recipe would work better.
I appreciate the G-rated drink names--Mr. Weinstein doesn't try to be cute like other cocktail book writers. I also appreciate his grouping of drinks, such as the grouping of hot drinks--coffee, hot chocolate, tea, juice. The cover photos are beautiful--I wish that there were more photos throughout the book.

5 out of 5 stars Fun & Tasty Drinks - Worth Every Penny.......2003-01-05

This book has hundreds of killer drinks that will make just about any party a smash hit. There are rum drinks galore and even non-alchoholic drinks for the designated drivers in your crowd. The drinks come in a rainbow of colors, and if you don't have a set of tiki glasses to serve them in, that's okay - you can always get some on ebay!

5 out of 5 stars What fun drinks!!!.......2001-11-09

Wow, these are great. I'll never throw a boring party again. I've made the Pink Elephant Punch and the Dim Sum Sling 3 times and my friends love them. Some of my friends don't "drink," so I made them a few of the smoothies and ice cream drinks from this book and they had just as much fun as the rest of us. I've just ordered the other books in the series and can't wait to get them.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Best, most thorough bartending book on the market........2007-03-22

Cheryl Charming has put a lot of experience into the writing of this book, and it shows. It covers pretty much everything you need to know to get started as a bartender and has a lot of useful information that more experienced bartenders can learn from. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who currently tends bar or wants to. The only thing that kept this review from being 5 stars is that there is very little information about how to prepare for private parties. Bartending For Dummies (For Dummies (Cooking)) has thorough information on this aspect, for those interested. As a side note, Miss Charming is easy to contact and very hepful if you have questions! Between this book, her website and her willingness to help, I was able to break into bartending and am extremely appreciative of her taking the time to help out her fellow bartenders. Bravo!

5 out of 5 stars A simple cocktail book...and the complexity of publishing it........2007-03-02

This review is, unfortunately, one of those good news/bad news affairs. The good news: This is a book well worth owning. It contains excellent guidance, stories (parables, really) both entertaining and subtly moving bartenders and home mixologists alike toward a greater grasp of the "beingness" of bartending - from an author who speaks eloquent Bartenderese.

Cheryl Charming, beginning with her name, continuing with the cartoony light touch of her previous fare, and concluding with publishing deals that emphasized those characteristics, has rarely been taken seriously among the cocktail elite. Her advice to bartenders less seasoned than she is puts the lie to that appraisal in this book. Ask any attendee of the [...] forums if you doubt it. Cheryl Charming is wise. Nonetheless, that was the legacy Ms Charming was tarred with previous to this book.

Here, the years of experience behind the mahogany are brought to bear. The book is packed with the aforementioned stories, charts, tables, and a plethora of useful aids to working bartenders and novices who want to grasp that distinctly social/functional headset. The up-to-date specific gravities of liqueurs (allowing the construction of numbers of perfect Pousse Cafés) and the unprecedented coverage of the largely ignored 1970s as relate to cocktails...these alone are worth the exceedingly affordable price of the book.

Cheryl sent me an early draft of "Miss Charming's Guide for Hip Bartenders and Wayout Wannabes" for fact checking. I raved. It was a superb look at bartending from the trenches. It cast a broad light on the vastly neglected (even by me) 1970s-80s era of cocktails. It voiced its offerings in a magically odd combination of honesty, humor, cynicism, and energy that only comes of living the life. I was immediately fatuous.

Much of this tone remains in the current work. It is still a tome well worth owning....no thanks to Cheryl Charming's editors and publishers. She was offered a hardback deal; a chance to visually transcend the past works that emphasized the playful frivolities of cocktails at the expense of their incredibly gourmet high end. In the final tally, (and for legal reasons here I must state it is an opinion...MY opinion) they screwed her. Crappy paper, soft-back, a vastly concatenated word count.....this was not, after all, the book that would show the world what an amazing point of view Ms Charming could offer. In short, they were nitwits, requiring massive text cuts, cutting singularly unique perspectives and marketing the book in exactly the same vein as any silly joke book. It is a shame. Note well....I only know this from the advantage I had in viewing an early draft and advising on factual elements. The book you are offered, as I indicated above, is entirely worth its price and worthy of any cocktail library.

If publishing companies were not such dolts, though, it would've been a better book for which you would've (appropriately) paid substantially more money. Buy the book, it remains worth it, but be contemptuous of the publishing company for their lack of vision.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Book.......2007-02-24

So I am both a bartender and an voracious reader/collector of books on my chosen profession and I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Written in an enagaging style it would benefit and educate both the newbie bartender as well as the 'old hand'.
Aimed towards the professional rather than the amateur it has the challenge of 'teaching' perhaps the biggest groups of know-it-alls on the planet and it succeeds admirably. That is not to say that the keen home 'shaker-upper' of drinks should not have it at home too as it provides both useful tips for them in their endeavours and insights into the murky world of the 'Pro'.
A great read, a useful tool and (groan) a fantastic cocktail of stories, facts and ideas at the sharp end of our industry. Bravo.

5 out of 5 stars Best book on bartending.......2007-02-10

Cheryl's book is a fantastic tool not only for the neophytes, but also for those who have been bartending for years, rich of informations and useful suggestions very hard to find on any other books. Definitely the best book on bartending I have ever read. Higly recommended .

5 out of 5 stars I have a whole new respect for great bartenders!!!!!!!!.......2007-02-06

Miss Charming's books are always fascinating but this book will blow you away. I have a whole new respect for "great" bartenders. The knowledge, multi-tasking skills great bartenders possess are sure to add 100's of dollars to your tip jar every night. I learned so much about liquor...history, weights, origin, who drinks it, what movie it was featured in......it goes on and on. You will KNOW what makes your customer happy and willing to fork over the tips in return. Attention to details....they are in here!! Get this book. If you are a history buff or a bartender looking for that extra something that will make you "The Special One" at your bar....you must read this book cover to cover and then just sit back and watch your regulars come in week after week. It's a guarantee!

5 out of 5 stars The Cocktail Party 911 Book.......2006-01-10

With fifteen years of beverage catering all over the world under my belt, I can assure anybody considering this book: buy it! Planning parties always involves lots of stressful details, calculations, planning, and organization that make the process a headache rather than a joy. This book does the opposite, thankfully. Miss Charming helps anybody from a pro to a home enthusiast handle everything without forgetting about the fun and creativity that every cocktail party should have. It's a fun, easy read packed with useful information including resources, recipes, and helpful hints. The recipes are great and well-written, unlike most cocktail recipe books which confuse even the most seasoned bartender with vague procedures and obscure ingredients and feature lots of unpleasant recipes that nobody drinks these days. Not this one: Cheryl explains in plain english every delicious recipe so your cocktails come out perfect. The hints and tips she provides are worth the price of the book alone. (Do YOU know how much ice you need for a party of 100 people? This book tells you!) This is the book that will save your next party and make you look like a genius. I have two copies... one on the bookshelf and one for reference I keep with my catering gear. Cheryl is the Martha Stewart of the bartending world.

5 out of 5 stars The Everything Cocktail Parties & Drinks Book.......2005-12-24

What a great party handbook! This very handy party planner is easy to follow and contains lots of recipes for cocktails both alcoholic and virgin. Ms Charming includes in her manual many recipes and suggest the perfect cocktails to accompany. She gives you thematic ideas and tells you how much to buy for your party. Lots of bang for your buck.

5 out of 5 stars EVERYTHING is right!!!.......2005-12-23

This book tells you like it is.......it takes a lot to put together a great party. But this book makes it feel very easy. Great guide and quick ideas that will work whether it's for drinks or food. The Martini names alone are worth having this book. Noone will forget these cocktails. Another unique creation from Cheryl Charming!!

4 out of 5 stars Good introductory book.......2006-07-04

This book contains more than just cocktail recipies, but also plenty of information on the main spirits and liquers (with mention to many specific brands) as well as a very brief guide to wines and beers. The reader will learn the history and production of many of these beverages. There is also a section on equipment needed for your own bar and some basic bartending techniques. The recipie section is full of vivid photographs to give the aspiring bartender a better idea of what the final product should look like. Stuart Walton is very knowledgeable about the different products and brands, and makes many reccomendations for serving drinks as well as foods that accompany them well. Although the book sometimes contains more pictures than information (as is the tendency among books from this publisher), it is overall a very good introductory source and is a worthy purchase at a low price.

5 out of 5 stars Wanna get sloshed in style? Here's the book for you!.......2006-05-06

"The Ultimate Book of Cocktails" is an amazing addition to the ever growing number of books about alcohol, alcohol mixing, and bartending. From the cover to the very last page, the entire thing has a very flashy, professional style, rife with literally hundreds of full color pictures, clearly displaying what each and every bottle or mixed drink should look like. The paper used is a high quality, heavy type that will stand the test of time, as well as all your spilled alcoholic concoctions.

This massive tome starts off with a brief, but highly informative, introduction to the history of all of alcohol's various forms. Several artifacts are shown to highlight whatever historical point is being made, such as a small statue dated around 2300 BC of an Egyptian woman mixing beer. All the information presented in the introduction is just a broad overview, though, as the real meat of the history is scattered throughout the book in every entry. Essentially every type of hard liquor that could possibly be imagined is presented in all it's glory, along with it's history and what it tastes good mixed with. Both broad categories, like "Vodka" and specific types or brands, like "Southern Comfort" are given due attention. Several of the entries are rather surprising. Grand Marnier is listed, along with what it mix it with to actually drink, although it's most typically used solely as a cooking aid, or as part of a mix for marinating fruits. Pisan Ambon, an Indonesian liquor made with banana, is just one of many little known or hard to find liquors explained here, and most of them will have the reader out the next day trying to track the thing down. Following the hard liquor is an equally comprehensive section on champagne and wine, which is then followed by a necessarily shorter segment on beer. There are simply far too many types of beer to give a whole page for each without having a two thousand page book. Several non alcoholic mixers, from the most ordinary to most exotic, are also described in detail.

The obligatory "bartending techniques" section is present, with all the tools of the trade and the various foods and liquids any bartender should have stocked before entertaining. The bulk of the book is in the drink recipes - and this is where "The Ultimate Cocktail Guide" really shines. Hundreds of cocktails are listed, utilizing nearly every liquor previously mentioned in the book, all with full color photos of the end result and a short little blurb about the drink and it's history. A good variety of styles are present, ranging from fruity tooty drinks, to hardcore "knock you off your seat" drinks, to absolutely bedazzling drinks that exist more for presentation than for drinking.

Anyone interested in getting absolutely sloshed, in style, owes it to themselves to purchase this book as quickly as possible.

5 out of 5 stars Great Guide.......2005-04-09

This a good coffe table book to own, the appearance of the book is fabulous and the information in it is even more interesting. The guide has not only a long list of some of the best drinks but also how to make them, what goes well with them, what kind of glasses to use and a little history on the alcohol itself.
I've tried mixing several of the drinks and they came out fabulous.
***This book appears at the Bargain section of Borders a lot. It's usually less than 5 bucks.

5 out of 5 stars Calling it the "Ultimate Book" is right in the mark..........2005-03-13

I received this book from my parents for my 21st birthday. Now, I knew that such things as beer, wine, and vodka existed and I've had my share of encounters with alcohol before my 21st birthday but I would have never guessed that there was so much information. This book has an introduction which talks about the history of alcohol. Then it has a section on the types of drinks and information about them (I would have never guessed how many there really are: spirits, gin, vodka, rum, whiskey, tequila, brandy, kirsch, etc., etc., etc.). It even talks about non-alcoholic mixers with information on how to serve drinks. Then there is an entire section on bartending techniques (which are very useful when trying to impress guests). And then there are over 130 pages of colorful (ie. pictures) drink recepies with a glossary and an index in the back. This book is easy to use by anyone who has no clue what they are doing and in no time the novice can be impressing their friends at parties and making some interesting and yummy drinks. This book is so easy to use because it spells out how to make these yummy and complicated looking drinks in clearly written steps (and the pictures help too). It will be a long time before I get bored of this guide, I highly recomend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Cocktail king!.......2005-01-13

I got this book as a gift and assumed it was just another cocktail guide. Little did I know this book is also a wealth of information on the history of spirits, liqueurs, wines, beers, and more. Also contains bartending techniques, tips and proper etiquette, as well as superb photography of most drinks and popular reccomended brands. I was never too big on cocktails or drinking but now I want to try and make and sample everything.

Beautiful book, definitely worth the $12 it's being sold here for.
