"I consider walking to be both my therapy and my proving ground," she says now. Spilner's style is warm and chatty, as if you're joining her for a walk and friendly conversation. The best read and advice around!.......2006-12-28
I have been an advid walker for many years. When I started walking 12 years ago. I needed to find a form of exercise that I could do consistently and would drop my cholesterol and blood sugars to an acceptable level. I found Maggie Spilner's newsletter on line way back then and found it to be one of the most valuable sources of encouragement and factual information on all aspects of wslking! In fact, I kicked my walking up a notch and formed a walking team who has competed in long distance walking relays (125-140 miles) and have done several chartiable walks and 1/2 and full marathons. This book has been my source of information for years to help inspire and encourage the newest of walker and all the way up to the competitive levels. I have bought several copies and needed to find more to give out at a city wide walking program seminar in my home town. I came to amazon to find the books and I will purchase more! I have been fortunate through our joint walking adventures Maggie and I have become friends and she was my choice to kick off my walking program here is Lake Havasu City, AZ. She is the best and I will continue to provide this book to others and use it as my constant source of valuable information, ideas that really work and enocuragement that changes lives! Oh, by the way my cholesterol, blood sugar and blood pressure has the been the best for many years now and it is all do to walking! So get on your feet and walk and go buy this book! You will not regret it! Maggie, go girl!!!!
EXCELLENT WALKING BOOK - A must read!!!.......2006-09-04
This is an excellent walking book because it is so informative and motivational! It provides oodles of information about what shoes to wear, what gear to wear, winterize your walking program, how to walk off your weight, a routine for the road, how to prepare for a 5-K or a marathon, and dynamic walking routines...and everything else you need to know. I highly recommend this book to the beginner or advanced walker. This book has inspired me to walk three (3) 5Ks in the past four months and I now walk on a daily basis! Just buy it and read -- you'll like it! =-)
"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk".......2005-06-26
I have enjoyed Maggie Spilner's writings for many years and it's great to find her walking wisdom packed into one book! I especially recommend this book if your inner sloth needs to be reminded (as mine does) to get out and walk-- Every Day!
Maggie writes, "Walking supports health in every sense--physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. It enriches and balances your life. And it just plain makes you feel good."
She is the world's best walking buddy and sprinkles every page with practical --and fun--walking tips, guaranteed to get your inner sloth off the couch!
On a personal note, I want to add that there is a sign at the top of a hill where I walk that says: "Above all, do not lose your desire to walk." I have long been curious about the source of that quote, and, today, I found it:
"Above all, do not lose your desire to walk: every day I walk myself into a state of well-being and walk away from every illness; I have walked myself into my best thoughts, and I know of no thought so burdensome that one cannot walk away from it. . . Thus if one just keeps on walking, everything will be alright."
--Søren Kierkegaard, a prolific Danish writer, letter to Jette (1847)
Maggie's passion for walking is contageous -- reading her book will help assure that you never lose your desire to walk!

Good read.......2004-11-27
This book is a good read. Two others that were better for me from a walking program perspective are: "The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program" by Mark Fenton (GREAT walking program for the couch potato beginner - starts w/ 10 minutes a day and gradually works up to 30 minutes a day - also not an information overload for a beginner) and "Walking Magazine The Complete Guide To Walking: for Health, Fitness, and Weight Loss" by Mark Fenton (this is the one i'm using now - great walking program schedule and tons of very good info on keeping variety in your fitness routine). If you can afford them, get all three. (I also like "The Sprited Walker" by who I forget, for motivation.) If not, start w/ the "The 90-Day Fitness Walking Program" by Mark Fenton and maybe this Prevention one to get you additionally fired up.
Don't let one bad review turn you away.......2004-03-26
I am the author of this book. I don't recieve any royalties for its sales and I no longer work for Prevention Magazine or Rodale Inc. I've checked here from time to time to see if the reviews change. The single negative review on top has been up for YEARS. I think it's too bad. I know many people have thoroughly enjoyed this book and found it very very helpful. It's true that much of it is a compilation of many years of articles written for Prevention and for my Newsletter. But they were well researched, facthecked and contain lots of helpful info for all levels of walkers. The section on Dynamic Walking is one of kind. You won't find that information anywhere else. I think it's a shame that one bad review by a person who seems mostly interested in marathons can be in place for years and put people off from getting a book that could really motivate them to walk for health for a lifetime. If you're new to walking and or a beginner looking for solid advice and inspiration, this book won't disappoint you. There, I've said my peace. Now MY two-bits will be up here for years. My friends will probably tease the heck out of me for defending my work. So be it! :-)

Motivation to get you walking.......2006-05-24
Maggie Spilner's walking articles were my favorites when she was the walking editor at Prevention Magazine so it was a nice surprise to discover that she has a new book out on the subject. The book is well written ensuring painless learning and lots of motivation to get you out the door and walking.
Chapter 1 covers the benefits of walking to help relieve the symptoms of menopause.
Next is information everyone will enjoy and use on getting started followed by 14 walking programs to chose from for variety and fun. You can pick and chose the ones that are immediately interesting to you and if, in the future, you'd like to undertake any of the other options, all that is required is a little additional reading. My current favorites are walking with a pedometer, walking with your dog, birding, gardens and walking vacations.
There's a chapter on weight gain during menopause and a final section provides information on yoga poses and breathing.
Everything you need to start a successful walking program that you'll want to continue for the rest of your life.
Get Moving to Get Rid of Hot Flashes.......2006-05-21
I know from personal experience that exercise is an excellent way to mangage hot flashes. Ms. Spilner offers 14 excellent programs - something for every age and fitness level. I especially like the themes; she makes exercise fun and informative. Julie A. Calligaro, author of Hot Flashes 21 Non-Hormonal Strategies to Put Out the Fire.

Maggie Spilner, America's favorite Walking Guru, certified trainer and yoga instructor, offers just the right dose of fun motivation, laughter, and practical tips to get women at midlife and beyond to put "WALK" at the top of their To-Do List! A daily dose of walking is powerful medicine that helps mitigate virtually all the changes women experience during the menopause transition. I thoroughly enjoyed Maggie's friendly, soul-baring, supportive writing style and highly recommend this book for women who are beginning to realize that taking time for a daily walk --especially combined with Yoga -- maybe the best, safest, most convenient and least expensive menopause medicine.

Though the title is about Menopause and the first chapter does thoroughly discuss menopausal complaints, the risks of hormone replacement therapy and the benefits of walking on various aspects of aging often associated with menopause, the 14 Programs I developed are appropriate for anyone at any age or stage of life, to motivate themselves to walk; whether for health for fitness, for relaxation, for stress reduction etc. Every thing from Bird Watching to Historic landmark hunting, to training for a 5k. I've written three books on walking and this is my favorite, both for its content, style and workbook format!
Happy walks!

If You Have Ever Spent a Summer in Maine You'll Love This.......2004-02-01
This is a counting book with a progressive story about one family's trip to Maine (they pack one baby, two dogs, three bicycles, pass four smokestacks, etc.). The pictures are great. My three year old doesn't remember having been to Maine, and asks for this over and over because of the story about the family (there is a dropped ice cream cone, sand castles, etc.).
Counting our Way To Maine.......2003-05-09
I have 2 children, almost 5 and just 3. We've been reading this book for a year now. They absolutely love it. It never gets old, because it's cute (illustrations) and silly/whimsical (writing). My kids love to point out all of the funny things that happen in the book -- the doggies getting in to the fresh-baked pies and eating their own ice cream cones, slimy smelly slugs on the front porch steps, the baby filling a shoe with blueberries, the brother throwing seaweed at the sister and more! It has helped my children recognize numbers in a really fun way -- by taking a summer vacation with the family/pets in the book! This book is especially meaningful to us as we have a speical connection to Maine -- we visit relatives (grandparents, aunts/uncles and first cousins) on the shore in Maine a few times per year, including a 2-week trip every summer. This book reminds us of the best of Maine while we read it all year long. Enjoy!
Countless delights in this book!.......1999-06-21
My family and I are preparing to move to Maine in two weeks. I happened to see this wonderful book by chance while at the library. It has gotten our 3 year old very excited about our upcoming move and where we will be living! I love the illustrations! We plan to order a bunch of them to give to friend's children as a momento of their visit to Maine.
Delightful!.......1999-05-27
Every time I read this book to my children (which is often), I feel an overwhelming urge to call a travel agent and book a vacation in Maine. With delightful pictures and remarkably few words, Maggie Smith does an incredible job of capturing the joys and adventures of a family trip. Far more appealing than most other "counting" books, this one will leave you with dreams of fireflies, and a yen for blueberry pie.
wonderful illustrations and a quick attention keeping read........1999-04-13
This book is not just for the 4 to 6 group. My daughter is almost two and has loved it and learned from it since the first time it was read to her. Lots to look at and learn from in each wonderful illustration. It must have been originated from some wonderful childhood memories of Maggie Smith's.

By studying prayer practices from around the world, author Maggie Oman Shannon discovered that prayer is more than a conversation with God, it is a "communion with the divine." In The Way We Pray, readers will indeed find compelling new ways to pray. Oman Shannon's brief chapters (4 to 6 pages) cover over 50 traditions from around the globe, including fasting, haiku, tea ceremonies, prayer flags, sweat lodges, and tantric sex. Each chapter is an eloquent essay in which Oman Shannon describes the prayer and its historical origins. In Mexico, prayer can take the form of milagros, which often look like small silver charms. "When a prayer or request was made to a saint, so was a vow--to carry out a particular action in return," she explains. "To seal the spiritual deal, a token is provided, offered to the petitioned saint." All the chapters close with a list of "Suggestions for Exploration," helping readers understand how each prayer can be respectfully incorporated into a spiritual practice. In the chapter on milagros, Oman Shannon suggests, "When you receive a blessing, try honoring it with a material image of thanks. For instance, you might buy a living plant to place in your prayer space." --Gail Hudson
Book Description
The word prayer often conjures images of bowed head and folded hands, but this important ritual of being in the presence of the divine has a much wider variety of expression. Labyrinth walking, speaking affirmations, writing in a journal, dressing in ceremonial costume, drawing mandalas, and writing haiku are just a few modern techniques for connecting with a higher power. The Way We Pray explores 50 prayer practices and provides historic details, interpretations, and stories pertaining to each one.
Customer Reviews:
Our ways of connecting with God, are as diverse as we are........2007-06-16
The way we pray is a personal reflection of who we are. I love how this book honors and explains diverse methods of prayer. There is no one correct way to pray. It would be dreadfully boring if there were only one correct way to do it. It makes sense to me that we could even use different methods of praying for different circumstances in our lives. This book gives lots of examples of how to connect with our God and our spirituality. I think it comes down to recognizing what resonates deeply within us. Our creativity is a blessing, a gift given to us by God. -Shouldn't we use our gifts to give honor and glory and thanks back to God?
I loved reading this book. It stirred me, reading about the different ways that people connect to God. In the chapter 'Ceremonial Costumes' it asks why some are drawn to costume or ceremonial clothing as a form of worship, and I loved the answer: 'Perhaps because it is a means of tangibly breaking out of everyday routine to mark, through texture and color, an entrance into sacred space.'
At the beginning of the 'Centering Prayer' chapter, there is a quote by Thomas Keating that says: 'We may think of prayer as thoughts or feelings expressed in words, but this is only one expression. Deep prayer is the laying aside of thoughts. It is the opening of mind and heart and body and feelings-our whole being-to God, the Ultimate Mystery, beyond word, thoughts and emotions.'
There are many prayer practices presented in the book and I loved reading about them and thinking about them. At the end of each chapter, there is a small section of suggestions for beginning the exploration, which gives you some things to think on or activities to try.
~Namaste~
Good overview.......2006-12-14
I apoligize in advance for giving this book three stars, but in my collection it's a three, this is only because I prefer books with a little more meat. However, as a resource tool, and an introductory book, this is a great book. Oman Shannon covers over 50 different prayer practices, and covers them in a way that make them easy to understand and she offers suggestions at the end of each chapter on how to incorporate them into your daily life. This allows a person to start thinking about how prayer can be adapted into your own life.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a great introduction to prayer practices, or a great personal reference tool for thier academic or personal conquests.
Useful Techniques for Sacred Living: Prayer as a Way of Life.......2003-10-20
Yes, this book is about prayer. It is a guidebook for the spiritual person to integrate methods from many different traditions and beliefs into their spiritual development.
Several aspects of this book that really makes it especially rich include the large variety of cross cultural practices including activities and ritual which you might not have necessarily thought of before as "prayer".
Oman Shannon reminds the reader that prayer practice is best moved beyond the realm of our "juice draining" early religious training and into the world of sacred intention so that we can truly encounter the divine.
Each chapter outlines another prayer practice and includes a feature called "Suggestions for beginning the exploration." This tool is especially helpful as it continues the integration process.... I mean learning about these practices is interesting AND actually using them takes them to the next level.
I found the sections on "Chants", "Milagros", "Mastermind Groups" and "Forgiveness Practices" to be among the most beneficial... although I am sure as different scenarios appear in my life, different chapters will be applied and utilized.
The Way We Pray: Prayer Practices From Around the World.......2003-06-14
Prayer may take many forms and be for an infinite variety of reasons. In The Way We Pray: Prayer Practices From Around the World, Maggie Oman Shannon provides a "compendium of prayer practices with enough context to acknowledge the cultural traditions behind them, while offering an invitation for further exploration."
Oman Shannon is a spiritual director, and founder of The New Story, an organization that helps people discover the deeper purpose to their lives. She's also a writer and editor, with a previous anthology of healing prayers to her credit.
Although many of us think of being on our knees with hands folded in front of us as the way to pray, practices as diverse as fasting, haiku, meditation, storytelling, and visual arts can all be a way of prayer. Oman Shannon quotes Catherine of Siena with the thought that "everything you do can be a prayer." What you physically do is of less importance than your sacred intentions. She says that prayer can become the "enfolding fabric in which we live our lives, and everything we do has the potential to be prayerful."
She describes over fifty ways of offering prayer. Each description details how that practice developed and how it has been used throughout time. Then Oman Shannon provides suggestions of how each method can be used in contemporary times, for contemporary difficulties. Each description is finished with a section containing several suggestions as to how individuals can explore that particular means of prayer to determine if it's something they can use.
An extensive resource section is provided to assist readers who want to investigate a particular practice in more depth.
Alan Jones, Dean of Grace Cathedral, has this to say in the Foreword: "The Way We Pray offers us a treasury of integrating spiritual practices [and] they all have the power to open us up to a deeper and more generous reality." Readers will find the Oman Shannon has provided an invaluable resource for discovering the power of prayer in the way best suited to meet their needs.
Practical and Powerful Ways to Pray.......2002-06-01
Maggie Oman Shannon does such a great job of making devotion through prayer seen alluring, rewarding and even fun. I enjoyed learning about all the differnt methods of praying that I have heard about before but knew little about. Finding out about prayer bowls, tea ceromonies and prayer dancing was very interesting. Maggie shares many ways that whatever way of prayer we are interested in can become accessible to use immediately.
I enjoyed as the quotes from different traditions included and
learning about different cultures. The Way We Pray does a great job of giving the reader so many different ways to be spiritual that they can never get bored and always have more paths to explore. What an inspirational book.

While this charming book is a photographic exploration of life as a bassett hound, it is also an exploration of the infinite positions one adorable dog can find for sleeping. Whether the location of the bed is a tree house, a meadow, a pillow-covered couch, or an asphalt road, the star of Maggie's Way turns napping into an art form. Maggie is a 7-year-old bassett hound, and owner-photographer Bill Stanton has captured Miss Maggie in all her droopy, drooly, floppy-eared glory. The majority of the photos are color, but a few sepia-toned prints glorify Maggie's lazy spirit on a summer afternoon. Each photo is accompanied by a short quote that perfectly captures the essence of the scene, and is sure to make you smile. Some quotes are from famous thinkers, other uncredited ones can only be from Stanton; in every case, the humor in the choice is evident. Examine the photo of a wetland that is next to Goethe's words "Plunge boldly into the thick of life"--is that a bassett hound tail poking out of the cattails? Apparently city-dwelling Maggie is also a bagel hound. Pictured above the words "the rewards of the urban hunt" is a dog with a mouth full of sesame bagel. One terrifying series of shots is titled "view from the bowl"--all you see are giant ears, a giant nose, and a giant tongue. Yikes! Bassett owners are sure to love this book; just remember that your hound is as likely to love chewing the pages as much as you enjoy turning them. --Jill Lightner
Book Description
Bill Stanton has two passions in life: photography and his beloved basset hound, Maggie. Maggie's Way is a lovely combination of these two interests as it merges heartwarming and humorous photographs of Stanton's canine sidekick with befitting quotes and thoughts from famous people, the author, and of course, Maggie herself! Dog lovers and photography buffs everywhere will fall in love with Stanton's arresting portraits of the adorable and charming Maggie, as well as the tender bits of wisdom and insight offered concerning the great adventure known as life. The enchanting photographs include Maggie diving into a lake, taking a bath, resting in a scenic field, eating a bagel, and interacting with other dogs. A funny and thoughtful book that can bring a smile to anyone's face, Maggie's Way is certain to captivate book buyers everywhere.

Wise Words of Loving Kindness.......2002-01-31
CARING IN REMEMBERED WAYS is the kind of book I reach for when I crave nourishing insights during trying times in my life. Maggie Steincrohn Davis' book about loving and caring for ourselves and others is true food for the soul, written like poetry. Thirty-one graceful entries gently serve up tasty morsels of ancient wisdom (such as how to see from the heart, or face times when loved ones are dying) alongside a garnish of amusing and heart-warming personal anecdotes.
I love the way Maggie understands all the subtle nuances of care-giving, and the ways love can reach through any situation, when we imagine it can. She writes, "Only by reaching 'beyond-the-beyond' of people -- behind their eyes, back of their pain, beneath their blaming and irritation and fussing -- do we make a path to the best in them. Treating someone with compassion who does not treat us well in return might be our fullest offering of love, as well as our own greatest relief during the daily rounds of vigilance and giving."
In this book, every sentence feels like a prayer and a meditation on love and compassion. As I read each comforting entry, I find myself feeling like I'm back in the warm, sunny days of my childhood -- snugly wrapped by my mother in a fluffy towel after a warm bath. CARING IN REMEMBERED WAYS can help brighten and warm even the darkest, coldest days in one's life. It's the ideal pick-me-up for anyone who grows weary of caring for and nurturing others, and even oneself.
a lilting mediation.......2001-08-22
A personal, practical & tender book about honoring the heart - a deep-seeing that goes beyond courtesy, kindness & empathy to the living compassion. Especially fitting for health practitioners, teachers, parents & volunteers.
Maggie's philosophy is to see the beauty & interconnectedness of all life. Her goal is to strive, to think, to speak & to act from what we see. She has been listening to her own heart & the concerns of others for years.
There are books that you read & there are books you live by. Caring in Remembered Ways is just such a book, the kind you can read from cover to cover or leave on your nightstand for those final, meditative thoughts before sleep. The throne room is also a good place for such pondering in a moment of privacy & relaxation.
A simply beautiful inspirational book of verses, thoughts, stories & philosophies.
A nice gift book to give or receive.......2000-09-13
I received this book as a review copy from a small publisher, and was wary. Many of the review copies I've received have been books that were not what I'd normally chose to read (and in those cases, the books rarely get finished or reviewed.)
This book was a welcome exception. Often I've wished I could pass onto my children some of the insights I've had after years of living and experiencing life. Or be able to comfort a friend in troubled times with sage thoughts. This book offers me that opportunity, in a modest-sized, but nicely packaged offering.
Maggie Steincrohn Davis has woven her own reflections with those of well known and not so well known wisemen and women, and presents us with food for thought appropriate for many times -- joyfilled or troubled -- in our lives.
She says in the beginning, "I confess, I could have condensed this book into one sentence - 'See deeply the beauty and interconnectedness of all life; then think, speak and act from what you see.'"
I'm glad she didn't confine herself to a few words - this book makes a lovely bedside book to read in those moments when you feel blue. It makes a wonderful gift for a friend in a time of need. It is uplifting, yet simple; inspirational yet earthy. It gets added to my list of books to give as gifts.
A Celebration of Kinship.......2000-09-04
Maggie has written a beautiful book about taking care of our fellow man. Her words flow like a calming river, bathing our souls in caring consciousness. This book will teach you deeply and remind you we are all human. Maggie helps us hear the thoughts of the ill and dying. She takes us by the hand and leads us into their world. How do you handle a parents death, a friends illness, the loss of a pet? What do you say to a friend experiencing a loss? How do you feel about your own aging? These are issues we will all have to face in our life.
Her words inspire us to move beyond courtesy and kindness and realize empathy. She evokes this feeling through a montage of anecdotes, meditations, stories from her own life, collected quotes, eternal wisdom and rivers of thoughts which run deeply over the rocky river beds of life.
The philosophy is to see the beauty and interconnectedness of all life. The goal is to strive to think, speak and act from what we see. Maggie has been listening to her own heart and the concerns of others for years. She has absorbed this knowledge and wants to pass it on to us in a way that affirms the best a human can be. She reminds us: "...any life we care for well can remind us of all we are capable of giving."
I highly recommend this "drink for the soul" to nurses, doctors, hospice volunteers, families caring for their loved ones, and everyone who feels disconnected and wants to start learning how to care for others. How beautiful the world would be if we could all know what Maggie knows in her heart. How caring of her to share her knowledge with us.
By reading this book you will realize how the smallest deed can have a positive effect in your own neighborhood. If you nourish yourself with the attitude of compassion, at the same time you will leave attitudes of worry, self-doubt, blame, fear, resentment and pettiness to die without your care. Maggie started Neighborcare to provide hands-on-care, plant care, pet care, help with errands, meal preparation, housekeeping, help with outside chores and help with transportation to medical appointments.
Her vision for the future is to encourage others to serve the ill, dying, injured and heartsick. She applauds volunteer efforts and I believe she is going to succeed in bringing awareness to caring with this thoughtful book from her heart.
The lessons presented in "Caring in Remembered Ways" are your guides to compassion. Along the journey of collected thoughts you may not see the words through you own tears. This is when you will most clearly see the needs of your own soul and the needs of fellow souls traveling with you in life. If you plant the thoughts from this inspiring book in your soul, caring will grow.

Needed Reminders.......2000-08-31
"Caring In Remembered Ways" is subtitled "The Fruit of Seeing Deeply" and oh what a blossoming orchard of wisdom Maggie Davis passes on to us throughout her charming book. This is what we refer to as a night stand staple. A book to pick up at any moment, slowly page through, and derive comfort from re-learning how to give comfort.
There is poetry, glimpses of heart rendering stories of the dying, of family, and fresh, ripe *bites* of fruit to pick , especially regarding enriching childrens lives. One of our favorite lessons of nature was quoting George Washington Carver--"the man best known for discovering the many uses of peanuts [he] was described as a saintly man who believed that a flower will give up it's secrets to you if you love it enough--that anyone will do that."
A beautiful inspirational book in content and appearance.

Spunky Memoir.......2006-11-30
Reviewed by Mary Greenwood for Reader Views (11/06)
The book "Remember to Laugh" is the true story of Maggie Kilgore's life as a reporter in Washington and a foreign correspondent in Vietnam. Coming from a newspaper family in Ohio, Kilgore started her career with the UPI (United Press International) and came on the Washington scene during the turbulent 1960's. After her stint as a foreign correspondent in Vietnam in the early 1970's, she worked as a financial consultant for the LA Times and later for the casino industry in Las Vegas. She started writing this memoir after a 30-year Vietnam reunion. Through her writing, Maggie Kilgore comes across as an energetic, adventurous, funny, independent and spunky reporter, who reminds me of Lois Lane.
"Remember to Laugh" is full of funny anecdotes from a life lived in the early days of journalism where it was a man's world and women reporters were generally expected to write about domestic issues such as cookbooks or the society page. The "foreward" is written by Helen Thomas, who worked fifty years for UPI and was the first woman to run its White House Bureau. Thomas can still be seen at White House briefings where she continues to be a role model for women reporters. In Ms. Kilgore's own introduction, she says that her book's goal is to amuse and she accomplishes that goal. One of the funniest stories took place on a troop plane in Vietnam when the Captain asked her to sit with him in the cockpit. She refused but soon she found out that the reason for this invitation was that the men used the open back of the plane as a latrine and her presence hindered that practice. When she realized this, she went to sit with the captain.
The most interesting part of the book for this reader was her two-year stint in Vietnam as a foreign correspondent. Her memories, and insider knowledge about the politicians and personalities, are the backdrop for the major stories of the Vietnam War. However, I would like to know more about the serious side of her beat and her personal opinions. I hope one day she will consider another book with a more serious focus.
With the advent of the internet, computers and imbedded journalists, it is interesting to get the inside perspective from someone who has succeeded as a journalist during the major stories of the 1960's and 1970's through good old-fashioned reporting. I would recommend "Remember to Laugh" to anyone who wants to know more about women in journalism, or about Vietnam or about the history of the US in the 60's and 70's or anyone who anyone who just wants to laugh.
Inspiring story about a female journalist.......2006-07-03
I found this story to be very interesting and very entertaining. The author has had quite an exiting life as a journalist in the US and overseas. She has met and interviewed many prominent political figures. She's also a funny, compelling writer. I definitely recommend this book.
An Amazing Life.......2006-07-01
Maggie Kilgore has led an amazing life that she shares with the reader. Written in a "chatty" and easy to read style, she will make you laugh and learn at the same time. Her escapades through historical events with her beloved colleagues in journalism are more than entertaining -- you feel like you are there. Don't miss this "must read" from one of the fun, female personalities in journalism of a bygone era.
