Life 2008 Diary (2008 Desk Diary)
ASIN: 3822839949 |
Book Description
Planet earth, home sweet home
In the year 2000, world-renowned wildlife photographer Frans Lanting set out on a personal journey to photograph the evolution of life on earth. He made pilgrimages to true time capsules like a remote lagoon in Western Australia, spent time in research collections photographing forms of microscopic life, and even found ways to create visual parallels between the growth of organs in the human body and the patterns seen on the surface of the earth. The resulting volume is a glorious picture book of planet earth depicting the amazing biodiversity that surrounds us all. Lanting's true gift lies beyond his technical mastery: it is his eye for geometry in the beautiful chaos of nature that allows him to show us the world as it has never been seen before. From crabs to jellyfish, diatoms to vast geological formations, jungles to flowers, monkeys to human embryos, LIFE is a testament to the magical beauty of life in all its forms and is Lanting's most remarkable achievement to date.
Customer Reviews:
An amazing book!.......2007-06-08
If you are not familiar with Franz Lanting's work this is an amazing first book to buy. It is full of stunning photos of a close approximation of the earth as it once was.
As has been said it makes a great coffee table book but is also a great addition to any library. For all the nature and photography enthusiasts out there, here is a great intro!
Lanting impresses again!.......2007-05-17
This is a wonderful book! The photographs are simply stunning and the layout of the book is great. This is an excellent sample of Lanting's work.
High impact book, but..........2007-05-13
Definately an impressive volume. Big, bold and generally with superb pictures. Also a nice concept book- the pursuit of time and change through photos of life and its diversity. However, for a book of this production quality (and it's very high), I was surprised with the number and degree of colour enhanced images and the lack of interpretation - either of the subjects (and their relationship to the theme of time) or of the technical aspects of the photography and the story behind the photographs (for the photo nerds amongst us!). To be fair, Lanting does provide single paragraph descriptions for each photo, but these seem like an after thought enforced by the publisher. Maybe writing is not Lanting's thing, pity, because his photography is impressive. Alternatively, I might have bought the wrong type of book: If you want something visually stunning to leave open on the coffee table, then buy it- it was a better deal than that offered by shops here in NZ!

LIFE: A JOURNEY THROUGH TIME by Frans Lanting.......2007-02-26
Having followed Lanting's photo career since the origin of Nature Photographers of North America, we anxiously awaited his Life book and were not disappointed. Here is represented the beginnings of earth, after the Big Bang, and the geological results.
Life: A journey Through Time.......2007-01-16
This book is very interesting. The pictures offer a very special vision of our planet.
Customer Reviews:
Inspirational!.......2001-07-24
This book is sure to become a classic among all books on the subject. The instructions are clear and accurate - easy enough for even a first-time quiltmaker to follow. The many color pictures throughout the book will inspire you to want to make a quilt in every single pattern!
You mean I can't give this 10 stars!.......2000-06-27
This book is INCREDIBLE! The projects are so beautiful, and they are really easy. But you would never know just by looking at them. So you can really impress people when you make these! I am still a beginner, and this should have been my first book. I kept buying book after book to try to figure out how to do the binding on my quilt. None of them explained it very well. But this one did! It also gave great tips for machine quilting and piecing. You do have to own a sewing machine to use this book or you will never be able to do all the strip piecing. I'm just really surprised that I found a book that had so many quilts I actually wanted to make. I like these because they are very symmetrical and coordinated. I don't really care for quilts that are fancy designs and every block is different patterns. I like these, made up of strips and squares to make complicated-looking but easy to make quilts. And they are all so differnet! How she came up with all these combinations, I don't know! You will not be able to put this book down! I think it is a very worthwhile purchase. I also like the way she wrote it. I have a couple of quilt books where the author may make nice quilts, but can't write a book at all. So this one was a great addition to my library.
Quilting For People Who Still Don't Have Time To Quilt.......2000-05-11
Sipmle srtaight forward instructions, but not lacking in inspiration for us beginers. I liked it enough to buy a second one for my daughter when she decided to start quilting.
Book Description
In this total update of his classic, quality guru Philip Crosby revisits and ultimately reaffirms the thinking he introduced in the tradition-shattering Quality is Free. In that volume, he took quality precepts learned at ITT and adapted in his great entrepreneurial experiment, Philip Crosby Associates (PCA), and rolled them out for the business world's lasting benefit. Now, after 16 years of intense change in one of the hottest areas of business, he shares his current thoughts on some of his most enduring contributions.
Customer Reviews:
Business life story under misleading title.......2001-05-23
Some people who read 'Quality Is Free' observed that the title is somewhat misleading (because it oversimplifies the real message). This book's title is definitely misleading, because it suggests that the book is an update to "Quality Is Free'. This, however, is not at all the case - this book does not have anything to do with "QIF", except the author and his general attitude towards quality (which is quite convincing, however).
"Still Free" is just an account of Crosby's career from his earliest work experiences, through ITT to his own quality consulting firm. The focus, however, is almost always on quality philosophy and implementation, rather than personal matters - they are touched on only to illustrate the professional aspects. Generally, it is a good account but I doubt that this is a reasonable form of explaining author's quality philosophy because it's intrinsically simple and intuitive; as far as can be seen from the book, it has not evolved much over years of its application by the author. This being the case, it is not worth explaining in this particular form.
The book would be more valuable if it were written before "Quality Is Free", not after. Maybe they should be read in this order; doing it the other way round does not seem to be very useful.
An advantage of this book over "QIF" is its language: much more clear and readable. All in all, it may be worth reading if you only want to get a general idea of Crosby's quality concept. If you need a program for actions, better read "QIF".
Book Description
Help Yourself Get Everything Done is for people who have to juggle the demands of a busy schedule, and that means all of us! If we’re not vigilant about planning our days, time can slip away at the expense of our personal fulfillment. According to Mark Forster, the key to getting everything done is repeated, consistent, and focused action. He shows us how to put this plan into practice: get moving and overcome resistance and procrastination, make the maximum use of available time, allocate work time and free time, cope with interruptions and emergencies, and learn to manage time by saying "No!"
Customer Reviews:
Highly recommend!.......2007-06-26
This is just the best book! As a huge procrastinator, this book finally got me going. Pair this with his other book, "Do it tomorrow", and you should see marvelous results! Written by someone who understands how procrastinators think. Much better than "The Now Habit"- actually gives you tips and systems you can start using right away. Has enough meat to make you come back and still learn more from it.
A Timely Cure for Affilate Marketers with TOS.......2005-10-22
From working with Affiliate Marketers I've found they're particularly prone to Task Overload Syndrome - those non-ending tasks which come with running a gazillion affiliate web sites.
The key to applying the information in Mark's book is to build it into a personal structure combined with variety.
The structure comes with how you slice and dice the tasks you know you should commit to do on a regular basis but seem to slip up on or procrastinate over at the expense of the time wasters - using the halving (or "binary") approach on a list of common tasks such as keyword checking, link exchange, link checks, article uploads, daily bookkeeping and site backups can be a revelation for those who have waded into creating a sea of sites and are now slowly drowning in the backroom tasks...
Other techniques such as the use of timed work sequences which gradually increase to accomodate the time the task requires without overrunning your day, allow you to introduce variety and an element of "game" into how you do your work (get a free online timer - I use an Egg timer from Sinner computing)
Even if you never get onto working thru your tasks according to the "resistance principles" that Mark introduces toward the end of the book, it is still a fantastic bargain at the price.
Of course there is always one-to-one coaching which can be even more effective but at a greater monetary cost.
A book written by someone who was a poor time manager.......2003-04-24
Many of the books about managing time seem to be written by systematic organized people who share their techniques, and the assumption is that you too can manage time if you follow their methods.
Mark Forster started from the position that he was poor at managing his time. He analyzed what was going on, and recognized that the problem he had was about attention and about poor habits. He also noted that some of the most time-effective people he knew didn't use time management techniques at all. He created a series of training exercises, described in the book, which will help develop more effective habits.
The book is personal, and describes the problems he had in learning his new methods in an interesting form. I'd recommend this book for anyone who wants to be more effective in getting things done.
This is how to do things the hard way - says author.......2002-06-02
I was fascinated to read the previous, highly enthusiastic, reviews for this book. And here's why (it's a statement from this authors new book - it is framed as a discussion with himself):
"What I wrote about resistance in my [first] book is great for people who are working in what I call Push Mode.
What do you mean by that?
It's the opposite of what I call Pull Mode. Essentially the difference is that in Push Mode you are pushing yourself towards your goals. In Pull Mode you are allowing your goals to pull you towards them. The results may look much the same, but Pull Mode is much less effortful [sic] and relies more on the unconscious activity of the brain rather than conscious linear processing."
Clearly even the author doesn't think there's any point in buying this book, as it will only show you how to do things the hard way.
So maybe you'll want to get the new book instead, so you can be right up to date.
Or better yet, why not hang on for a little while. No doubt there'll be yet another book along soon to show us an even better way of managing our lives?
Alternatively, I suspect many readers will be smart enough to spot the pattern and will choose to invest in an author who doesn't completely change their mind every time the sales figures for their current book start to dip.
One of the most unique books on life management.......2002-04-03
"The danger is that better time management techniques will lead to bigger and better overwhelm."
Since we cannot add more actual time to the day we must be conscious of what activities consume time. Which ones do we most want to get done and which other activities we can say no to. As Mark says it is Life management rather than time management. Other topics he discusses are: What does someone who seems to be on top of everything all the time do differently than those who seem to always be one step behind? What is the need to manage our lives better? Common time management techniques their good and bad points. Overcomming resistances, focusing our attention, and breaking bad habits. There are many more topics and many exercises.
This book was an entertaining and motivating look at managing ones life. I am now reading it through for the second time.

Mind Maps at Work: How to Be the Best at Your Job and Still Have Time to Play
By Tony Buzan
Undoubtedly, Tony Buzan should be credited for starting the ball rolling for mind-mapping in the late seventies/early eighties. He certainly took a brave stance. Whether he originated the idea is still debatable, because I strongly believe that the clustering technique (as originally envisaged by Gabrielle Rico in her debut book, `Writing the Natural Way', in the early eighties) is the precursor to the mind-mapping technique.
I still owned the original releases of two books written by Tony Buzan, in which he introduced mind-mapping during those days:
- Make the Most of Your Mind;
- Use Both Sides of Your Brain;
Going back into these two books & comparing them with the current book under review, I am very surprised to note that there are not much differences from the the intellectual standpoint. Despite the fact that more than three decades had already transpired, there are no new enhancements for readers, except, may be readers now get to see mind-maps in colour.
Tony Buzan is still pursuing the dogmatic approach of putting every issue from a centralised position & viewing all the connected issues in a radially-outward perspective. Beyond this singular aspect, he doesn't have any new ideas to share with readers.
Sad to say, Tony Buzan is clearly running out of steam. All his new & subsequent books still follow doggedly the same old formula. In fact, most of his new books are often rehashed &/or mildly expanded from the foregoing two books. Some of his disciples who have written similar books even follow the master's footsteps.
I am not saying mind-mapping is obsolete. It still works, but it has severe limitations. In today's chaotic business world, not every issue can be centralised in perspective.
Even in the educational arena, mind-mapping has its fair share of problems in application. Let me share with readers a true case in Singapore, as reported in the Straits Times, a local newspaper, a few years ago. According to the then-principal of Raffles Girls' School, a top-ranked secondary school, the school invested heavily in getting students to learn & apply mind-mapping in their studies. Every teacher & student was very excited. Every student was proud of her colourful mind-maps. However, when the final exams came, all the girls just abandoned mind-mapping & went back to the old habit of note-making. To them, mind-mapping didn't work as expected.
My own analysis is this: you can only apply mind-mapping to some subjects in the academic curriculum, but not all. For example, fish-bone diagramming & time-lines (or transitive-order diagramming, an expanded variation) would be more effective for history lessons. A story grid would serve English Literature more effectively. Concept maps & V-diagramming would be more ideal for navigating science subjects.
Coming back to the current book under review, I wish to say this: mind-mapping alone is not going to help you solve all your problems. The mind-maps just look good on paper in most instances. You need a smorgasbord of visual tools!
Just imagine you only have a screw driver in your tool-box.
For readers who are keen to explore beyond traditional mind-mapping, they should take a look at the following resources:
- 'Thinking Visually: Business Applications of Fourteen Core Diagrams', by Malcolm Craig;
- 'Rapid Problem Solving with Post-It Notes', by David Straker;
- 'The Power of 2 x 2 Matrix: Using 2 x 2 Thinking to Solve Business Problems', by Alex Lowly & Phil Hood;
- 'Visible Thinking: Unlocking Causal Mapping for Practical Business Results' by John Bryson;
- 'Beyond Words', by Milli Sonneman;
- 'The Marketer's Visual Toolkit', by Terry Richey;
In the realm of strategic planning, I reckon 'Reinventing Communication: A Guide to Using Visual Language for Planning' by Larry Raymond would be an excellent resource.
Even Nancy Margulies' mind-scapes as envisaged in her 'Mapping InnerSpace' &/or 'Visual Thinking: Tools for Mapping Ideas' can help you deliberately move away from Tony Buzan's standard routines. In other words, you can start your idea from anywhere you like.
For readers who just want a quick & broad understanding of visual thinking perspectives, I would recommend Robert Horn's 'Visual Language: Global Communication for the 21st Century.'
Use Mind Maps and TEFACS to organize your business plan..........2005-07-15
Like other books by Tony Buzan, "Mind Maps at Work" starts with the description of human brain, its boundless capabilities, and then reiterates Buzan's favourite techniques like Mind Maps, TEFCAS, Radiant Thinking, etc. If you've read other books by Tony Buzan, you may find parts of this book monotonous, uninteresting and not engaging your interest. But if you are looking how to apply Mind Maps to your work environment, or just thinking how to be more efficient at your job, change career or start your own business, deliver excellent presentations with confidence, stand up for yourself and your ideas, be a key player at work, lead your team to excellence, than you will find worthy thoughts throughout this book.
It shows how to use Mind Maps and TEFACS to organize your business plan, access the progress of your plans and identify areas for improvement, create and update your CV in a colorful and visually arresting way, and so on.
Although in some places I've found this book a little bit dull, it is definitely worth attention! This is a book that suggests purposely slowing down and smelling the roses could actually boost productivity in today's 24/7 world. I would also recommend "Slack" by Tom Demarco in addition to this book.
Overkill on scratchpadding.......2005-04-03
Well it didn't work for me, and according to published research, it probably does not work for you either. (research shows that it demotivates, confuses, and makes the learner feel like they have regressed).
The book itself comes up to the same high quality hype and new age glitz as previous books on the subject. However, there is a strange mismatch in the text. The writing is about business and being professional, but the maps are as professional looking as a multicoloured sneeze. I cannot see any pro working with these things. Concept maps, timelines, graphs, diagrams etc are a mainstay of good biz communication. And they are colourful. I cannot see why someone would want to exchange those for a scrappy looking mind map.
I know I'm going on, but the book itself is a worse offender. If you are really into mind maps, just get "teach yourself mind maps in a week" (from the library). It has all the same hype in it, but its far more concise.
Cheers
D.Rayt
Do you want to WORK with mind maps, this is the book for it.......2005-02-16
Finally, mister Buzan has written a book which is highly practical. I am a professional mind mapper in the Netherlands. The last few months more and more the idea arose to write a book about how to implement the mind map idea in a business environment. I can forget about the idea, as mister Buzan has done it for me (what a pitty). I think mind mapping is thé way of effective and efficient communicating. The book is packed with examples in all kind of situations. The book gives you also a very good idea about which companies use the technique for it's own good. And I can tell you when companies like Apple, Boeing or Burmah Oil use it to their advantage, why can't you?
interesting.......2004-12-03
this book is interesting when you know the mindmap technique. the issues raised and questions given to assess different situations are valuable and practical indeed, whether you are a CEO,a jobhunter or teammember. Mindmapping stays a tool, it doesn't replace the essentail questions.

Third Fable for Our Times by Carol Lynn Pearson shows the love and bond that is eternal between a mothers and daughters.
Customer Reviews:
a gift to give your daughter, and for daughters to give moms.......2007-06-11
A book that shows the mom or daughter in your life that there is a special bond -even among the differences.
CHARMING!.......2004-05-17
My mom and I, unfortunately, do not see eye-to-eye..... yet this book made each of us choke up. It's a keeper.
For anyone with a daughter, read with a tissue!.......2003-03-25
My mother has always loved books by Carol Lynn Pearson; I think one reason is that she named her daughters Lynne & Carol (and we used to be Pearsons)! By far, this is my favorite Pearson book. Recommended by an Amazon friend, I bought this book for my mother who has always lived thousands of miles from me. As luck would have it, my daughter was visiting me when I started reading this lovely little story. From the very beginning, I knew this book was written about us. The tears started flowing on the first page and didn't stop until the last page of this poignantly written "Fable For Our Times." WILL YOU STILL BE MY DAUGHTER? is actually a parable about an acorn that falls from a beautiful, strong oak. The oak loves her daughter and wants to protect her from pain and disappointment. However, as in real life, we can only hope that our children will have the strength (roots) to persevere.
There is a special bond between a mother and her daughter and this book celebrates that bond. You must read this beautiful keepsake with your daughter, especially if she is going through a difficult time. I now need to buy another copy of this book for my mother. I loved this touching tale and recommend it to all mothers. Put it somewhere handy so it can be read over and over!
Touching and True.......2002-04-24
I bought this book for my mom while on my first vacation away from her in California. I was 18 years old and for quite sometime had been struggling with her issues of letting go. Because of this book I finally understood that she was also struggling with having to let go and I learned to be a little more patient. I think she too realized that although she couldn't always protect me, I would still be her daughter.
The Perfect Mother-Daughter Gift.......2001-12-29
If you have a daughter, particularly one who is on the brink of womanhood and preparing to leave or has already left the nest, this is the perfect book to give her. In other words, if you have a daughter 18 or over, give her this book immediately. You may even want to read it with her, but be warned that you will both shed a joyful tear or two. This short, picture-book for adults tells the story of a mother and child and the lessons they learn. Sadly, even a mother's love cannot protect a child against all life's hardships, but the irrevocable truth still stands: there is no greater love than that of a mother for a daughter and the nurturing love that melds into true friendship as years go by is a shared gift. Treasure this little book as you read it for a few minutes with your own daughter, and hold its message in your heart forever.

Customer Reviews:
Don't waste your time.......2007-05-07
Despite some of the negative reviews, I figured that the price was low enough that surely there was something to be gained from the book, even if it was terribly dated. The problem with this book is that in the author's own words, she really never had to deal with this issue. In the first chapter she talks about how she planned to work and consult at the same time, but that she was laid-off right at the moment she was ready to start her consulting practice....uh OK, so the rest of the advice seems very suspect from Chapter 1.
And the rest of that "advice"? Let me sum it up - be careful about legal and ethical conflicts with your current employer and make sure you've got a plan for dealing with working two jobs. That's about it (well, duh!!).
Waste of my time.
Ever heard of the Internet?.......2005-08-22
Although it covers general principles, the book is too dated to be at all useful in a practical sense. I am sorry I bought it. There are no URLs only phone numbers and addresses. The closest this comes to the modern age is a recommendation to get a modem on your computer.
Only downside: some material is dated.......2004-02-18
Considering this book was published in 1996, back when the Web was barely a buzzword, it could be worse, but the reality is that this book's most important flaw has to do with its sheer age. Due to that, it misses on some very useful pieces of information and resources the writer could have offered, if a more recent edition were available.
Now that I wrote about the negative (I normally don't do things in this order, but it just came to me), on to the good things:
-The book addresses to a sufficient extent many of the issues (time and stress-wise, in terms of ethical conflicts, etc.) that stem out of starting a consulting practice beside your full-time job. This is where the CORE STRENGTH of the book lies. I've not been able to find any other titles that go into this topic so effectively... in fact, I've not found any other books on the topic at all. Most of the other consulting books I've checked out simply deal with consulting, considering it full-time dedication deal.
-The author -the President of her own HR Consultancy- also volunteers some good (though far from unique or comprehensive) advice on putting together a pricing scheme for your services, finding sources of financing for your outlet, starting your office at home, marketing your services, and even heads up into critical tax/legal considerations to take into account.
Other than the outdated material in a few parts where references are cited, and the lack of online information to support the book, I liked her book. All in all, it is not a recipe book, but a reference and a rather good one, most specifically useful to those in the process of considering a consulting business on the side, and even for those who are already doing it, in order to assist with setting things up that you might not have thought of up to this point.
Note: unless she went out of business or did a poor job at marketing her services online, it's impossible to find any other reference to her in Google besides this book, whatever that implies... :\
Very dated material - but some still useful.......2001-01-22
This book was probably cutting edge when writing began in the early to mid 1990's. But now, the book is seriously out of date. For example, there is no mention of using the Internet to market your consulting business. However, the author does explain how to do some basic business research online. This is before the days of web browsers. Therefore, the author explains how to set your modem for 2400 and 9600 bps connections. Additionnaly she gives resources for firms that provide products or services to small businesses, however, many of these resources are now out of business.
An additional example of dated material would be the information she writes about the Small Business Administration. At the time the book was written, the data was very useful. Recent changes to SBA programs render the author's information historical, rather than helpful.
Basic small business concepts, such as time management and business plan development are still relevant.
Overall, the book needs a revised edition, or it should not be sold by Amazon.
Excellent resource.......1999-03-04
This book is a great resource. She covers everyhing from small details such as arranging your home office to larger issues such as ethical questions about consulting in the same area as your employer and practical questions such as how to register your business name and inexpensive ideas for marketing. This book is also a good resource for people wanting to start ANY home-based consulting business, not just a part-time one. Since the book was published in 1996, there are not as many references to the web as their might be if it were published today, but the author was obviously in-tuned to various technicological benefits that existed in 1996, and she still gives solid advice that is still valid today (the Internet doesn't solve everything and changes all the time anyway!).

Book Description
Expanded from an earlier catalogue of the same title, Still Time accompanied a traveling exhibition featuring more than twenty years of Sally Mann's photography.
Still Time celebrates an artist whose acute perceptions and imagination embrace not only the photographs of children for which she is renowned, but also earlier landscapes, and the unexpected, compelling forays into color and abstract photography.
The sixty images include abstract platinum prints, Cibachromes and Polaroids, landscapes, portraits of women and twelve-year-olds, and her celebrated family pictures.

Sensitive, Remarkable Photographs.......2006-07-24
In my view, three works by this gifted photographic artist should be treated as a triptych: this volume, At Twelve, and Immediate Family. Taken as an ensemble, they mutually inform each other both for the range of stylistic and technical mastery exhibited by Ms. Mann, as well as demonstrating the breadth of her photographic vision.
The most recently published of the three works, Still Time is also the only one that displays both black/white and color photos. The subject matter includes portrayals unique to this book and also a brief selection from the two volumes mentioned above. Her cibachrome and polaroid color pictures demonstrate her eye for pure design. Several platinum prints display her awareness of texture and contrast; one of them--a photograph of an arm draped in a flowing sleeve against a multiply flecked, aged wall--is exquisite.
As is all of her work, taken as a whole. Less appealing to me were the impressionistic black-and-white photos presented in a circle as if peering directly through the camera. However, this is part of her creative experiment and it is to be expected that not every subject or mode of presentation will appeal to all.
Were you to buy only one volume of Ms. Mann's work, or as an introduction to it, this book would be a good choice.
still time.......2006-06-24
a rehash of photos from other sources. interesting, but the buyer should have been made aware so as not to duplicate previous orders.
THE MAGICAL TOUCH OF BEING GIFTED.......2005-01-29
Sally Mann was so shockingly good in her book of photographys of her children called "Immediate Family" that I was sure none could be as good. And this book is not as good but it's still five stars.Just the cover of a night blooming cirus draped across her daughter is enough.........like the flower yet to be and the book is fully of much more. In her first books prologue there is the story of the very unconventional growing up that Sally Mann had......her father was a wildly creative man who had his children experience the unusal to say the least........but the most unusal is they apparently experienced the beauty of youth and family and life. Today some would stone her.....we know who they are ......so sad for them.
Not nearly as good as Immediate Family.......2003-11-17
I bought both "Still Time" and "Immediate Family" sight unseen after seeing her new book "What Remains". "Still Time" is a compilation of works from various periods. It is easy to see her promise, and there are some nice photographs. Her progress is interesting. But she really hits her stride when she photographs her children in "Immediate Family". Some of the early shots in "Still Time" seem sort of concocted and overdone-until the photos from "Immediate Family" which are breathtaking. Save your money and buy "Immediate Family".
After meeting Mann, the book was made more magical........1999-05-06
I am an English/photography teacher at a high school in southside Virginia. I had always been a fan of Sally's work and used this book as a teaching tool in my classroom. The way Mann has captured the human form and the "inner workings" of something as private as her family is breath taking in the flawless medium of black and white photography. I had an opportunity to meet her and after explaining to her how her book was used to inspire my students, she happily signed my copy of the book (my students went wild when when they saw her signature)!

A must for every grower!!.......2001-06-20
This book is a must have for every grower. It should not be the sole resource for information, but a reference guide for the beginner to the advanced grower. I find myself referring back the pages frequently to pick up some hidden or forgotton hints. The book is definately an integral part in the success in my garden.
Past History.......2001-05-05
High Times is resting on its history. This re-hash of old cultivation articles contributes very little to someone setting up a garden with what's going on today as far as equipment and hardware. Better to subscribe to the magazine than rely on these tired methods.
High Times, Low Value as Primary Grow Guide.......2000-05-19
Yes, there is a wealth of information in this growing guide, some of it state of the art; that is not the issue. It is a compilation of articles from past issues, and there is a lack of cohesiveness to the content that makes it a poor growing guide for beginners; there is also more contradiction betweeen authors than is helpful. The book is best suited for somewhat experienced growers, looking for esoteric tips to perfect their craft, while exploring a spectrum of diverse and newer ideas. In the later context, it has greater value. For the novice it is a supplimental text to be used in conjuction with any number of more teachable growing guides. Lastly, the book would have benefited from a good index, but it has no index at all.
GROW GROW GROW!.......2000-02-07
I have recently purchased this wonderful grow guide. It is definatly a good fact filled book ideal for any grower. I have purchased many other grow guides but they don't hold a candle to this one,it has in depth facts and tips . I gave this particular guide a rating of 5 because in my eyes you will not find a better.So , happy growing.
