VERY GOOD BOOK!.......2000-02-08
I own all seven of the Tennis Shoes books and love and cherish each of them. I read this book for my book report and couldn't wait for the next report to start the next one, "The Lost Scrolls"! I am unhappy he titled this book, "The Seven Churches" because the Seven Churches are mentioned ONCE in the h\whole story. It should be "The Lost Scrolls Part 1". All in all I rate this book 100 out of 5 stars! Must read this series!
ANOTHER GREAT BOOK BY HEIMERDINGER.......1999-08-30
When I first heard that the main character was going to be Harry Hawkins in this book I thought for sure that this book and The Lost Scrolls wouldn't be as good as the first for with Jim Hawkins as the main character. To my suprise it was just as good as all of the other Tennis Shoes books (which is really really good.) I can't wait to read Heimerdinger's next book.
This is a great book........1999-06-02
Tennis Shoes Among the Seven Churches by Chris Heimerdinger a new book that I just read. It tells the adventure of fifteen year old Harry Hawkins and his soon to be sister Megan Sorenson who go on an adventure into Frost Cave. This cave takes them back in time. During this adventure they meet a boy named Jessie who has no parents or relatives so they take him with them, they almost get eaten by a pack of heinas, they get to watch a gladiator fight, and they got reunited with some old friends. The obsticals that they have to go through makes this book an excellcnt book. At the begining of the story Harrys sister gets hurt in a motorcycle accident and while she is in the hospital she mentioned the name of an old friend that she met when she went into the cave when she was younger, his name was Marcos. When Harry, Megan, and Jessie are traveling, Megan and Jessie got kidnapped. The purpose of the story is to entertain people and the charcterization in the story is excellent because it is developed well through the story. Harry is a boy worried about his happines and when he finds who he is looking for he knows his sisters happines will improve. Overall I think Tennis Shoes Among the Seven Churches is a great book. I think this book is a great addition to literature.
This was a good book with alot of exciting adventures........1999-04-09
This was a book that has a lot of action packed story. You should read it to find out about a young boy named Harrison Ford Hawkins Who goes back in time to meet his old friend, and to save his sister. This book keeps you on your toes, you should read this amazing book.

Great surprise ending for kids!.......2000-09-09
Out of Alan and Suzanne's 3 books, this one is my kid's favorite! They were in stitches the first time we read it because of what happens at the end! And even though we have read it many times now, they still giggle when the last couple of pages approach. Great story with good solid morals and a wonderful update on the Cinderella story. :-)
Cinderella II.......2000-02-06
This book has become the favourite of my 5 year old daughter. Why should great fairytales only have one life, this is what happens after Cinderella marries the Prince and has a child of her own and her stepsisters have children of thier own. A very clever extension of the original. Great reading for 4-8 age group.

Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites
A book by Chris Heimerdinger
The Tennis Shoes series is originally about a boy who travels back in time to an ancient civilization called the Nephites (a people whose writings make the "Book of Mormon", which is a book the religious people called "Mormons" or the "L.D.S." people base their beliefs). Armed with modern gadgets, the boy, named Jim, his sister Jenny, and their enemy-turned-friend, Garth, are out for the adventure of their lives.
When Garth finds an ancient cave, which he believes holds hieroglyphs made by the Nephites, he begs Jim and Jenny to come along. When they reluctantly agree, they find themselves sucked into a whirlpool of a lake, which they are manipulated by and finally spewed out on a waterfall. Where they are, they have no idea.
The three-some suddenly realize they are in a world where there is no electricity, no cars, no boats, not anything! Jim finds out that they are in the world of the Nephites. How can they get home? How can they make friends with these nomadic people? How can they make sure that they don't get eaten by wild beasts? Read this book and you will be hooked until the very end!
"Tennis Shoes Among the Nephites" is only the first of ten books! In the next nine, Jim's family and friends also find this historic cave, but it doesn't only take them to the land of the Nephites! Read these books to find adventures in Mexico, ancient Rome, the Mayan empire, ancient Babylon, and much, much more!

VERSION ON TAPES.
I listened to this because one of my companions on my mission had it (I don't think it was against the rules of our mission) and he really liked it, none of his other companions wanted to give it a chance, so when he asked if I'd listen to it with him I decided to be the nice one, he said if I didn't like it we never had to listen to it, I agreed and...wow!! For 3 days all we did during lunch and after the day was over was listen to his tapes.
What an enveloping story, exciting and suspenseful, it is very well written and intertwined with the actual stories. It is very enjoyable, it makes you wish you could have been there, the way he describes things is mind wrapping. I definately recommend it. I am giving it for Christmas.
Awesome Author.......2006-06-01
I am personally acquainted with Chris and he is an amazing person as well as an amazing author. He truly researches each and everyone of the books that he writes. He travelled to Mexico while researching for the Gadianton novel and went through several of the experiences that he wrote his characters into. He really brings the ancient characters to life in wonderful adventures while exploring true gospe principles. His awesome testimony and love for the LDS church, the Book of Mormon, and the Bible makes him the perfect person to write these stories. Whenever a new ook would come out me and my brothers and sister would fight over who got to read first. We would have 2 or 3 bookmarks in it marking where each member in the family was reading. I am now out of the house and am working on bying my own copies of all ten books.
tennis shoes among the nephites .......2005-11-03
I really liked this book. I thought it was very good because it has a lot of action and adventure. I also like it because it realates to a lot of theings I know and care about. I would recommend this to a friend because it is very exiting and fun filled. If you like fantsy history youll like this book. it has a lot of people from the book of mormon. There is also 9 more books in this series. I am going to read them all and I'd recommend this book to any who asked.
Great For Mormon Children!!.......2004-04-12
I liked the premise of this book... a couple of kids going back in time among the Nephites and Lamanites of old to experience their hardships, learn to apply touch lessons into their lives, and learn to love The Book of Mormon. This story focuses on the time a few years after the Title of Liberty was raised by Captain Moroni.
This is the story of Jim who is in need of a spiritual experience to increase his faith and bring him back into the fold of the church. He has help from his friend, Garth, a Book of Mormon expert, as they accidentally go back in time while searching some old caves. Jim's little sister (Jenny) comes along as well and gets kidnapped by the Lamanites. Jim befriends many common Book of Mormon heroes as they try to save Jenny and get back home.
For children over 9 or 10, this is a GREAT read. It really brings the Book of Mormon to life. For adults, well, I found it a little bit childish for my tastes but I have heard that the following books are more mature. I'm looking forward to reading more about these types of adventures. My only real complaint was that the ending seemed to wrap itself up too quickly. It was almost like the author was tired of writing the book and just wrote to get it over with in a hurry.

An adult in Tennis Shoes.......2004-08-15
My brother and I have been reading the Heimerdinger "Tennis Shoes" series since they first came out in 1989. Even now, as adults, we still enjoy them, and have read the series (through 9) multiple times. This is the first book of the series that comes with notes for each chapter, which adds much to the understanding of the historical nature of the story. This is also the first book in the series that is told from the perspective of several characters. Because of this, the book jumps around much. I imagine that some kids may have difficulty keeping the flow of the novel with so much switching between narrators. As with the other books in the series (#3 and forward), there are multiple story-lines in the book. However, this is the first book that really does not connect the stories, and therefore leaves the book lacking in some respects. Even the next in the series does not connect the stories, so I wait with eager anticipation that #10 will finally wrap them all together. Unlike the trilogy of 5-7, which connected nicely all the way through, this one leaves a group of characters essentially floating in a literary limbo, leaving the reader wondering. Nevertheless, for readers of the series, one must read this one too. "Gadiantons and the Silver Sword (#2)" remains my favorite of the series for suspense, and numbers 3 and 4 remain my favorites for story-line. Enjoy!
Time Travel.......2002-07-17
This awesome adventure book sends you flying to the ancient Americas, and Old Jerusalem.
When Garth Plimpton's kids are stolen, Meagan, Apollos, and Marco are accidentally thrown into the Mayan times! While they are trying to get home, Joshua, Becky, and Mary get caught in a time continum that sends them to Old Jerusalem, where they meet an old villian, and an unexpected time traveller.
This story has a great hangtail endng, and I can't wait for the next one!
the warriors of cumorah.......2002-04-03
Okay guys you are in for a thrill. Chris has done it again! I give it five stars. Chris takes a little girl, gives her some "magic powers" and wham you have a novel. The book is not just about a little girl its about surviving in a strange and unknown world I have to admit that it does have a bit of romance, not too much to where the book is mushy gushy or any thing. In the book you are never one one subject for more than one chapter which keeps you on your toes and something is always around the corner ready to jump out and suprise you!

good, but not as great as his others.......2000-01-14
This book, along with Chris's other books, really make the Book of Mormon come alive. While it's not as great and The Feathered Serpent II, it's still a book that I think everyone should read.
WONDERFUL!.......1999-11-28
This is a wonderful book. It is a must have. If you haven't read it, READ IT! I couldn't put it down. Every night I stayed up late and read it. It was wonderful. I am going to try to read Chris' whole collection of Tennis Shoes books. I have already listened to all of the tapes, but they are abridged and not as good. This book is great. It reflects very much on my religion. It is a great book. You NEED to read it if you already haven't!
not as good as his other books. it just wasted my time.......1999-11-10
i have read all the books chris heimerdinger and this one toatally blows. It was so so boring there was a couple of good parts but no good enough parts to waste your time on. Iam olny 13 and yes a mormon. All his other books are so great. If you are looking for the best book ever read tennis shoes and the seven churches. It is very good because it has some action in it unlike the feathered surpent. seven churches is cool because it talks about scrolls and there is this one guy and his name is simon and he wants the scroll of power but the kids dont have it.And as simon is talking to the kids his flesh is rotting off. it is a very scary book in some parts and good in all parts. If you want one book to read read TENNIS SHOES AND THE SEVEN CHURCHES! Glass Shoe.......2007-06-30
I liked this book. Her two cousins do everything they can to help her find love. Yes, she has money and people have been trying to take advantage of her for years and it has affected her. But this book is about finding romance and they both find it. Good read. couldn't put it down til I finished it.
Senseless.......2004-07-10
This book tries hard to bring in a cinderella touch to draw the story together. It doesn't work. They meet at a masked ball, fall into lust. Time and miles later they meet and again fall into lust. Oh, and cinderella is rich. As some kind of modern day fairy tale, it fails miserably. Too bad, interesting idea.

Customer Reviews:
Like the Tower of Babel, these books are becoming simply TOO spectacular........2006-07-10
I'm sorry, but I have to admit it publicly: I'm starting to be disappointed with this series. Blasphemy, I know. How can I possibly remain a faithful Latter-day Saint and have such an opinion? I don't have an answer to that.
However, as to why I didn't really care for this book I DO have an answer. The book on its own is a fun ride through ancient Jewish tradition, ancient Jewish myth, and the scriptural accounts of Genesis and Mormon. The characters we've all known and loved are still there, and the pacing is tight and fast. What's not to love?
Well, for me the story is simply TOO big and TOO fast. The first book in the series presented a story told with attention to detail and archeology. To me, the most impressive idea behind both the first and second books was the author's attempt to portray the Nephite civilzation as both small and barely into the Iron Age (which would be accurate for the time periods invovled).
Over the next books, however, we've seen a continuing change between using archeological records to using cultural traditions. In the first book we see that most of the Nephites are poor agriculturalists with few urbanites. We are told about how they grind corn, how the cloth they wear is simple, and how their swords are nothing more than wood and volcanic glass. It seems the most impressive building Jim and Garth see on their journey is the Temple of Nephi, which was basically a large box of a building (no offense is meant by that, either).
Contrast this with the city of Jacobugath with it's nearly impossible architecture and the Hollywood-sized pyrotechnics of the destruction of said city. Compare this to the Tower of Babel being so high that the air at the top is thin, with a base so huge in area that it takes DAYS to walk around it. Compare this to a huge flying City of Enoch that seems to circle the Earth every few months.
In Holywood, in order for sequels to be monetarily successful they must be BIGGER, BETTER, FASTER, and just plain MORE than their predecessors. In my opinion, Mr. Heimerdinger has fallen victim to this line of thinking in his books. No longer must the past be somewhat accurate, it must be AMAZING. We're no longer dealing with what people have studied, dug up, or what we think we know about the people of the past; we're dealing with what ancient Jewish myths have said about the past. Suddenly we're no longer protecting Captain Moroni from a secret combination (something that we know could have easily happened), we're protecting the only copy of a Gospel from destruction, we're saving the Baby Abraham from destruction by his father and by the all-powerful Nimrod, who apparently rules the Entire World with an Iron Fist (and flying machines!). I'll give you that all of these situations could be *possible*, but for me I've lost the respect I used to have because they are no longer even *probable*.
Mr. Heimerdinger, if you ever read this, please don't think that each book must contain a hundred million more dollars worth of special effects than its predecessors. I read these books because I want to see how modern saints react to going into the actual past as far as modern archeology knows, not into the mind of an imaginative third-century-BC rabbi. I read them because I like the characters, not because I want to be blinded with the idea of "Wow! That idea is SO COOL!" I've been blinded so much that I'm starting to not see the point.
Another Great Tennis Shoes Book.......2003-08-03
The Tower of Thunder is another great book in the Tennis Shoes series. In this book, Mary, Joshua and Becky have ended up in the time of the tower of Babel. They wander upon a woman who is dying and leaves the baby in their care telling them to bring him to Shem.
Akish, who had dropped his sword in the previous book, wants his sword back and the sword causes trouble for the group, trying to warp the mind of whomever uses it.
Harry and Megan end up in the times of the tower, too. They arrive during a battle and get captured when a spy bird calls out their position. They get accused of being angels sent from heaven by the king who is preparing his armies to wage a war on heaven.
We hear nothing about Ryan, Megan, Apollus or the others who were sent through time in this book.
I don't want to give out too much about this book so you will just have to read it yourself. If this is your first tennis shoes book, you might want to start with number one or two. This book does require you to know some characters from the older books.
