The hard-boiled, tough-talking homicide detective is one of the classic archetypes in contemporary American entertainment. TV and movies have always been loaded with trench coat wearing cops drilling suspects and catching elusive clues that crack the case. And while there is no historical shortage of fictional gumshoes, writer Miles Corwin shows us that the lives of real detectives, while perhaps not as glamorous, are infinitely more interesting. Corwin was given extensive access to one of Los Angeles' top units and provides fascinating insight into methods of evidence gathering, interrogation, and other facets of detective work. Homicide Special pushes past the headlines to retrieve a depth of insight that reveals the complex nature of the crimes and the efforts to solve them. Real investigations aren't quite as easily solved as those on, say, CSI, and Corwin's analysis of various cases illuminates the fragility of good police work. At the same time, the actual details of a homicide case are considerably more grisly than anything on television and readers should be prepared for rather unpleasant imagery. Among the many cases spotlighted are the murders of the daughter of a Las Vegas mobster, a prostitute with ties to the Russian mafia, and Bonny Lee Bakley, allegedly killed by her husband, actor Robert Blake. Corwin makes good use of the access he was granted, fleshing out minute details that provide an intimate feeling to the locales, suspects, and witnesses visited by the detectives. The celebrity culture of the detectives' beat and the unique universe that is contemporary Southern California living provide an unusually eclectic perspective to the true crime genre, throwing the stories captivatingly off kilter. Meanwhile, Corwin's narrative toes the tough-guy crime writer line, calling to mind a contemporary version of Dragnet. But such trappings are mere accents to the ultimate success of Corwin's book: the ability to realistically demonstrate the challenges and triumphs of top detectives seeking both answers and justice. --John Moe

Book Description

Los Angeles is a town of dreamers-and of those who prey on them. The scene of innumerable bizarre crimes, it is also home to a unique police unit called Homicide Special, whose mandate is to take on the toughest, most controversial, and highest-profile cases. Now acclaimed writer Miles Corwin uses his unprecedented access to this legendary unit to narrate six of its cases-and capture its newest generation at work. When a call girl from Kiev dies in the line of duty, detectives Chuck Knolls and Brian McCartin seek her killer among a circle of Russian women who have been sold unwittingly into white slavery. When a gangster's daughter, brought up in Las Vegas, takes a bullet, veterans Jerry Stephens and Paul Coulter trace clues scattered across the country to one of Manhattan's wealthiest real estate magnates. A cold case is reopened; a suspicious mother-daughter drowning and a baffling rape/murder are solved. And finally, Corwin re-creates the investigation surrounding the late Bonny Lee Bakley, a woman driven-like her city-by the desire for fame, and allegedly murdered by her actor-husband, Robert Blake. Compulsively readable, artfully written, and surprisingly redemptive, Homicide Special offers a thrilling insider's report on some of the nation's most high-profile and complex homicides-and the extraordinary men who solve them.

4 out of 5 stars Welcome to LA - Third World Cesspool full of Criminal illegal aliens.......2007-09-23

What was interesting was that most of the murders were committed by immigrants or illegal aliens. The First Chapter was the Russian sex trade in LA. They were all illegal and the woman who was murdered was selling other women. When she made her pot of gold she was going back to Russia.
everyone comes here for money and they murder for it too.
Another man came here and imported Brides from his own country , while he was a crook. This is called Chain immigration of course.
I learned a lot about how easy it is for immigrants to come here.I would say that none of them made any attempt to intergrate into the dominant culture, they stayed in their own segregrated world( by choice) and murdered those close to them.
This is what diversity is and I recommend that people go to [...] and find out how to limit immigration

3 out of 5 stars I Was Bored........2007-04-16

It's not an awful book, but it gets tiresome after a while. And it gets tiresome because all of the cases are successful cases that get solved quickly. So the book fails the drama test.

Corwin oughta know that boredom is inevitable when your book's subjects go from one success to the next, to the next. Its like reading the biography of someone born beautiful, smart, rich, talented, and lucky. They get picked Prom Queen and quarterback, and their moms loves them more.

5 out of 5 stars Riveting.......2007-03-25

My husband picked this book up from a bargain table at Borders. I was skeptical, looking at the cover, but it's one of the best true crime books I've read. Throughout the accounts of each murder investigation, Miles Corwin peppers you with intriguing information about the detectives, the victims, the suspects, various LA neighborhoods and LA history. It's riveting, to say the least, and you don't want it to end.

3 out of 5 stars No Ending.......2007-03-09

Although the book was a very interesting read, most of the cases highlighted in it had not been solved by the time the book went to press, leaving me wondering what happened.

5 out of 5 stars Tremendous Pacing...........2005-01-20

Easily one of the top true crime books I have ever read. Corwin has an eye for detail but doesn't get bogged down in minutia or wordiness. The pacing of the investigations lead to many, "ok, I'll read one more chapter then quit" episodes. The detectives' sense of humor and dark view of the underbelly of society is genuine and genuinely funny. Even the best fiction does not grab my attention like Corwin did. This work is on par with David Simon's "Homicide." Simply put, a must read.

1 out of 5 stars Very limited writing style.......2007-08-24

It is really hard to find the right words for this work that reads like it was written by an adolescent with a huge inferiority complex describing one of those violent video games. If you are one of those military blockheads you might find this book entertaining, but in all consequence it has no value when it comes to add to the aspects of the Irish War. The author's writing abilities are simply too limited. If this book is really a reflection on the workings of "Britain's Most Secret Service" then I have to worry about their abilities to handle such complex tasks as fighting terrorists.

5 out of 5 stars Great reading for the professional soldier!.......2006-08-21

What I like about this book is its apparent honesty. The author does not over inflate his achievements. If he were lying, the book would be more blood and guts and" I wuz there." He is careful to make clear that he was not personally involved in some of the incidents he relates. I found the details about the selection process and later operational skills to be fascinating.

What was also valuable is that you see that the selection process was not just a bunch of crap, but was actually required for the job to be done. His treatment of weapons and capabilities is straightforward and accurate.

The book also touches on the sometimes jealousy and cooperation between Company 14 and the SAS.

(There is the possibility that some facts were altered for security purposes. The book was vetted by the Ministry of Defense.)

Any young troop contemplating some type of special forces selection process would to well to read this book (there are others) to see what kind of head games you are in for.

4 out of 5 stars Great book on 14 Intelligence company.......2003-11-17

An excellent look at a military unit that is realitivly unknown and the covert operations that have taken place in Northern Ireland. Anyone interested in the conflict in Northern I reland or the British Army should read this book.

Book Description

A critical look at over 80 years of conflict, collusion, and corruption between financiers and politicians
Undue Influence paints a vivid portrait of the dealings between "the few", in this case members of Congress, the banking community, and the Fed, and sheds light on how radical new deregulatory measures could be introduced by unelected officials and then foisted upon Congress in the name of progress. In the process, the background of the new financial elite is examined-because they are markedly different than their predecessors of the 1920s and 1930s. Undue Influence also brings readers up to speed on other important issues, including how the financial elite has been able to perpetuate itself, how the markets lend themselves to these special interest groups, and how it is possible that after 80 years of financial regulation and regulatory bodies the same problems of financial malfeasance and fraud still plague the markets.
Charles R. Geisst (Oradell, NJ) is the author of 15 books, including Wheels of Fortune (0-471-47973-X), Deals of the Century (0-471-26397-4) and the bestsellers Wall Street: A History and 100 Years of Wall Street. Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Sketchy.......2005-10-07

Undue Influence would seem to have a couple things going for it: the book jacket claims that Charles Geisst is a best selling author of fifteen books. It covers an important and timely topic: the history of securities regulation, from the Crash of the 20s to the dot-bomb implosion of 2000. But it appears to have been rushed to print. There are parts of the book that are clear and informative, but there's also a lot of bloated and murky prose that should have been edited out.

The Introduction illustrates the faults of the whole book: the first sentence is strong and vivid, but in the following paragraphs, the writing breaks into cliches, mixed metaphors (a cornerstone of the safety net?), vague generalizations, and outright typos and grammatical mistakes.

The index is likewise sketchy. The term 'bucket shop' appears early, without explanation. The index lists only one occurrence, on page 155, well after the term first appears, and the term is not defined there, either.

I looked for the Acknowledgements to learn who edited this (or failed to), but there are no Acknowledgements - maybe no one wants to be associated with this rush job.

If you aren't already familiar with the history of securities regulation, look elsewhere for a good book on this topic.

5 out of 5 stars Great background for regulation/deregulation.......2005-02-09

Professor Geisst has done a great job of making all of the confusion about the regulation and deregulation of Wall Street and the banks clearer. His account of the trend toward freeing the banks from the 1930's laws is very valuable because it shows the behind the secenes working of the different interested parties. The whole debate is part of the larger movement toward reinterpreting the past in a more conservative fashion and I found the book interesting for that reason alone. Reading this, I get the impression that conservatives reacted toward deregulation in the 1980s as strongly as the radicals did for regulation in the 1930s but the major difference was that the old regulations at least responded to a crisis, trying to fix it. The same cannot be said of the free market movement of the recent period. I found this book very vaulable.

How do you rid a city of a brutal crack-trafficking gang whose members have held a seven-year reign of terror and murdered at least 60 people, many of them in public, without threatening the lives of your witnesses? Pull them up by the roots. In the early 1990s in New York City, a 19-year-old college student was shot to death while driving down a highway when the leader of the Red-Tops (also known as the Wild Cowboys) decided to test fire his new Uzi. What began as one policeman's search for an answer to this senseless murder eventually turned into an investigation into a vast conspiracy of crime, an investigation that involved police from Manhattan and the South Bronx and New York's only dedicated drug gang unit, the Homicide Investigations Unit (HIU). It turned out to be the biggest and one of the longest investigations ever conducted by the HIU (four years to bring the gang's leaders to prosecution, six months of trial), and was unusual in that it involved so many agencies.

Michael Stone details their investigation almost moment by moment. In the process, he reveals both the layered conspiracies in the world of the illicit drug trade and the twin issues of turf and credit that lead to fiefdoms and strife in law enforcement circles. His portrayal of the drug trade infrastructure--with its layers of managers, enforcers, runners, pitchers, and lookouts--and its tinderbox world of threats and counterthreats is eye opening and frightening. The same is true for the inner workings of the halls of justice. While there are certainly heroes in this story (a number of cops and attorneys literally dedicated their lives to bringing down the Cowboys), it becomes clear why the law is often unsuccessful in defeating gangs. Resistance to working with other offices, lack of communication, strong personalities, and intense possessiveness are but a few factors. At times the story is almost too complex to follow, with a huge cast of characters and a horrifying trail of crimes. But hang on: the trial near the end of the book ties it all together. --Lesley Reed

Book Description

An elite homicide investigation unit takes on one of the most savage and destructive gangs in New York City history in this gritty true-crime narrative.

The investigation into the late-night murder of a college student on the West Side Highway leads to the Wild Cowboys, a group of young men who for years terrorized Upper Manhattan and the Bronx while running a $30,000-a-day drug business. What follows is a tale of dogged pursuit that offers a fascinating inside look at the workings of a complex police investigation, and a satisfying account of how a city took back its streets.

I once live on Beekman but moved before all the Redtop Yellow top saga really got moving, reading this book let me see what my brother and his kids lived through, Mr. Stone really captured the gang and there doings well

3 out of 5 stars An okay read. . ........2001-05-28

"Gangbusters" is an okay, but not a great book about criminals. You want a killer read about crime? Try "Black Mass: The Irish Mob, The FBI and A Devil's Deal" by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill. Now that's a wild book. And all true too.

4 out of 5 stars A bit of reality...yes!.......2001-01-31

This book caught my eye because I remember when the Wild Cowboys weren't in books but instead running the streets of Washington Heights and they were known as the Lenny Boys. Being a native New Yorker from Washington Heights, i only saw the good side of the Lenny boys lifestyle...the money, cars, weed, and women. Oh yes, they were making money illegally but from seeing these guys in the streets no one would ever imagine that they were responsible for so many murders in NYC.

The book did a decent job in informing the reader of the investigation which lead to the downfall these drug-slingin' bandits but left out much of what was needed to understand Lenny and his compadres day to day lifestyles.

I wish there were pictures in the book to bring to life these people who did things which are hard to believe actually happened, even for someone like me who was born and raised in the same streets these guys come from.

This is a true story, without a doubt, but i feel maybe some parts were omitted and or exagerated to make the book much more dramatic. Also, the writer could have left out more of the political game that is played down in the DA's office and elaborated more on the events that earned the Lenny boys the title, Wild Cowboys.

I would suggest this book to anyone who wants to get a taste of what it is like living in a neighborhood where crack dealers are as visible as the police themselves and wield just as much firepower as they do. But remember, it's only a taste!!!

2 out of 5 stars Reads like a term paper.......2001-01-31

As much as I enjoy books of this genre, Gangbusters read like too much of a report. The book was dry, and the overwhelming number of players in the book had me flipping to earlier chapters to see exactly who I was reading about.

4 out of 5 stars good book, very true to life in NY.......2001-01-04

If you live in suburbia and want to get a good picture of life in the inner city this is the book to read. I have to admit the book was a little unnerving knowing that ive hung out on a few of the corners where some murders happened, imagine my surprise when reading this book! What would have made it better is if we had a more round about picture on the victims, and the perps. As many inner city kids know when your raised seeing one way of life from first sight sometimes you dont know anything else... its not an excuse but maybe we shouldn't only look at the criminal/punishment aspect but a reform aspect. Some kids grow up seeing from first sight there parents smoking crack//shooting dope, or making there family income off of a spot, they're not told go to school and do good, theyre told quit school get a job, pay half the rent, and if you want a couch buy one cause i traded ours for $30 of dope. imagine growing up with this message, which is as strong as the messages for you to suceed were when you were growing up. how hard is it to do good when all you know is societies "bad" and thats normal to you. its probabally just as hard as a "normal" person being bad instead of "good."

Praise for How I Became a Quant

"Led by two top-notch quants, Richard R. Lindsey and Barry Schachter, How I Became a Quant details the quirky world of quantitative analysis through stories told by some of today's most successful quants. For anyone who might have thought otherwise, there are engaging personalities behind all that number crunching!"
--Ira Kawaller, Kawaller & Co. and the Kawaller Fund

"A fun and fascinating read. This book tells the story of how academics, physicists, mathematicians, and other scientists became professional investors managing billions."
--David A. Krell, President and CEO, International Securities Exchange

"How I Became a Quant should be must reading for all students with a quantitative aptitude. It provides fascinating examples of the dynamic career opportunities potentially open to anyone with the skills and passion for quantitative analysis."
--Roy D. Henriksson, Chief Investment Officer, Advanced Portfolio Management

"Quants"--those who design and implement mathematical models for the pricing of derivatives, assessment of risk, or prediction of market movements--are the backbone of today's investment industry. As the greater volatility of current financial markets has driven investors to seek shelter from increasing uncertainty, the quant revolution has given people the opportunity to avoid unwanted financial risk by literally trading it away, or more specifically, paying someone else to take on the unwanted risk.

How I Became a Quant reveals the faces behind the quant revolution, offering you?the?chance to learn firsthand what it's like to be a?quant today. In this fascinating collection of Wall Street war stories, more than two dozen quants detail their roots, roles, and contributions, explaining what they do and how they do it, as well as outlining the sometimes unexpected paths they have followed from the halls of academia to the front lines of an investment revolution.

for the money, the book is a good buy. although the qualities of the content vary hugely from chapter to chapter, some of the chapters are more than worth the price I paid for.

5 out of 5 stars Quantify This! .......2007-09-01

How I became a Quant by Barry Schachter, PhD and Richard R. Lindsey, PhD is a series of interviews with 25 important quants on Wall Street. The book has several in-depth interviews of interest.

Example: On P. 196, a comment is made that is very true: Wall street has finally come to understand that investing is an intellectual arms race.

Some of the many entertaining interviews include:

David Leinweber of Leinweber & Co.

Alan Malz of Clinton Group

Peter Muller Morgan Stanley

This book is definitely worth purchasing and reading intently.

5 out of 5 stars See how quants have changed the world!.......2007-07-30

Although people may argue why this and that person was not on the Wall Street's quant elite list, I'd say that the authors picked an amazing list of 25 quants, representing quantitative equity portfolio management, market microstructure, derivatives pricing, and risk management. Yes, as you may not be aware of, there are two types of quants, one in quantitative equity/market microstructure and one in derivatives pricing/risk management. They are somewhat related, but use very different tools. The former is less well known until early 2000s (the boom of market neutral hedge funds) and the latter is overly covered in academic programs since late 1990s.

It's very interesting and inspiring to learn how these 25 quants became quants. Many with physics/math background came to finance, due to the cut of funding in hard science after the cold war. Many people became quants because of "accident". Few people came to this world because they had wanted to do quant finance from the beginning. Of course, it's all different now. Smart and ambitious university students aim at quant finance from day one. There are also many graduate computation finance/financial engineering/math finance programs to choose from, so you don't have to go through a lengthy PhD program.

Life is highly path dependent (as many of the 25 quants said in the book). Choose your career careful, but more importantly, choose something that you really enjoy (and hopefully, also something you are really good at) - this is one of the key messages in the book. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone with a keen interest in joining the quant finance world.

A definitive account of Hitler's private army, and the most objective ever written, Williamson's lavishly illustrated The SS: Hitler's Instrument of Terror follows the organization from its inception in the 1920s to its demise in 1945. The author, an ace writer on German military history, delves into the SS's origins and makeup, its role in the concentration camps and race policy, key figures in the field and in the Nazis' internal affairs, and details of weapons, creeds, and oaths of allegiance.

5 out of 5 stars Very good. Great photos, tons of information, apolitical........2007-09-09

Very much enjoyed this book. Loaded with fascinating pictures and images. Stays out of political opinions or posturing. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent companion to any WWII History book.......2007-05-30

Comprehensive, profusely illustrated, reader-friendly, concise, nice size edition and clear in its exposition. In about 250 pages Mr. Williamson covers the whole history of these special troops, in all their aspects. Reviewing all its divisions, commanders, foreign nationalities that were incorporated into them, the weapons, the battles, their most talented fighters, etc and without losing the thread of his story: a most remarkable thing. Of course this is no eulogy of the SS, it tells of the barbarities committed as well as the acts of true heroism in battle by some of their soldiers. This is a great history. One can follow their main divisions from their inception long before the war, and how they grew in size and experience parallel to the national circumstances of Germany herself.

The role played by Himmler's crackpot ethnic theories were debunked by sheer necessity of man force: many of its finest soldiers were indeed non-Germans. One feels compelled to read more about this ignominiuos personage, Himmler, as he really was a weird (and evil) guy. On the positive side are outstanding acts of sheer valor and heroism of some soldiers who really deserve to remain in any military history of this war. Some passages of course overlap with the Wehrmacht, since they fought side by side many times, but both the detailed analysis and the wider scope of the SS role are present in this book. Nothing relevant is missing here. A great history book and an engrossing read.

5 out of 5 stars What do you wish to know about the SS?.......2006-05-07

This book broadly covers the organization and History of Hitler's elite enforces providing the reader with great amounts of information on this subject. It hides nothing especially the attrocities.

A must read for those interested in this subject.

5 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Third Reich Source.......2005-03-01

This book is an awesome collection of written material along with rare, powerful photos and diagrams. A standout feature, and my personal favorites, were the illustrations of particular uniforms, medlas, ceremonial decorations, propaganda posters, and weaponry that you don't find in alot of WWII references. Overall, this a great book and a must for WWII enthusiasts.

4 out of 5 stars The Schutzstaffel with an emphasis on the Waffen-SS.......2004-06-15

Many good things can be said about this book. I sought out this book after reading the `Complete Idiot's Guide to Nazi Germany' and found that it had very little information on the SS. I was surprised at the number of photos and pictures in this book. That was the aspect I liked the most. The overall layout of the book was nice with detailed information on the formation of the SS, day to day tasks, subdivisions of the organization, equipment, atrocities on both the Eastern and Western Fronts, and the foreign legions. However, I feel the book could have used more information on the Gestapo, the SD, and the Einsatzgruppen. The Waffen-SS was given plenty of coverage in regards to its individual divisions and campaigns on the two fronts. I would have to say too much information considering that this was supposed to be a book about the entire SS. The sections on the Waffen SS were excellent, without a doubt. The book should have been given a different title which stresses this fact. Overall, the book was easy to read and flowed well with plenty of fascinating information. The author seemed a bit quick to defend the Waffen SS and some of the atrocities it is accused of, constantly stressing the fact that on the whole they were soldiers like those in the Wehrmacht. Though this may or may not have been true, opinions like this should have been kept to a minimum. The book would have been better if the information was just presented and then proceeded to let the reader decide for him or herself.

Book Description

More than thirty years after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, the meaning and the legacy of his presidency are as much the subject of controversy as are the facts of his murder. Was JFK a tool of the Eastern Establishment - of the corporate and banking elites - or was he their bitterest enemy? Did his policies - domestic and international, implemented and unfulfilledserve to continue the domination of the powers-that-be, or did he attempt, and in many cases effect, a break with America's aristocracy? In this intriguing and penetrating analysis, Don Gibson does not simply replay the standard commentaries on the Kennedy presidency, many of which are ill-informed, even if well-meaning. Gibson looks at what JFK himself said, wrote, and did, contrasting that with the words and actions of his enemies-the Wall Street Journal, Fortune magazine, and the corporate and banking magnates themselves, who, as this book shows, truly despised the President. The current conventional wisdom depicts Kennedy as a cautious, even a conservative president, a Tory Democrat committed to the status quo and to the Establishment. But this book makes a compelling case to the contrary, suggesting that President Kennedy was always willing to do battle for his policies, even in the face of vicious attacks.

With its clear and lively style, this book is a revelation to the general reader and to the specialist. It also contains strikingly original insights into environmental elitism. It adds a new and important dimension to the ongoing debate over the Kennedy presidency. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5 out of 5 stars Finding the real motives for the assassination.......2004-06-30

In reviewing the thoughts of most researchers of the JFK assassination, one sees that most of them invariably bring up the Cuba issue, and occasionally Lee Harvey Oswald's possible involvement with this issue.
Now, however, in this book, Professor Donald Gibson may have uncovered the real issues behind the death of President Kennedy. He reveals so many issues, in fact, that one has to begin to decide which one is the crucial one, the one that provoked the conspirators to decide to kill him.

The death of Kennedy seems to this observer of the American scene a resolution of the struggle of the two forces to decide who really rules America. Since people who run the government colluded with the murderers of the president, it's pretty obvious who really runs the show.
Readers of this book may want to try Gibson's second book, "The Kennedy Assassination Cover-Up". After forty years, Americans should want a reasonable answer to the question of who killed Kennedy. Gibson may provide the answer.

5 out of 5 stars A Big Piece of the Puzzle.......2004-06-05

In 1989 a book was published called "Crossfire", in which Texas-based journalist Jim Marrs reviewed most of the information he thought was then available concerning the JFK assassination. A large part of the book dealt with those people and groups whom he thought were the most likely to have killed Kennedy. Allen Dulles and his CIA were included in his list.
Donald Gibson has added one more suspect to this list in this book, and it would appear to this reader that someone has finally made sense of the events of November 22, 1963.
From this one book alone, one could seriously accept the idea that the eastern establishment, the Wall Street crowd, the corporate elite and all their connections had the most to lose with Kennedy as president. They had the motive and means to kill the president and then to cover it up. Gibson flatly states the establishment and the CIA's interests were intertwined. In fact, the CIA was merely the enforcer for the Council on Foreign Relations global agenda. Both Allen Dulles and John J McCloy were extremely important members of the Council, who managed to land on the Warren Commission and lead the cover-up. In fact, a case could be built that they organized the plot. All they needed was the green light from someone in the inner circle of the Rockefeller-dominated Council, like one of the Rockefellers.

This book is a great read. The subject matter is interesting and thought provoking. I had the privilage of having Prof. Gibson in class. His knowledge is vast and inspiring. His passion has motivated me not only in the college realm but in life itself.

4 out of 5 stars wall street.......2001-11-27

this book helped give me a whole new meaningful perspective on the kennedy assasination..it sifts through all the misinformation, and the same tired trashy expose type books on the kennedy presidency that don't give any meaningful information, i am much more interested in a president's policies economic and otherwise as opposed to his sex life...i highly reccommend that anyone interested in politics, economics, or the kennedy assasination read this book twice and very slowly. gibson lays everything out clearly in an easy to understand way, i highly reccomend this book.

5 out of 5 stars An Important Piece to the Puzzle.......1999-03-17

"Battling Wall Street: The Kennedy Presidency" is great reading for people who want to move beyond books about the mechanics of the Kennedy assassination. The book helps explain why the "Eastern establishment" and a lot of other influential people, might want to get rid of President Kennedy. Another book, "History Will Not Absolve Us : Orwellian Control, Public Denial, & the Murder of President Kennedy" provides additional pieces of the puzzle by explaining how the American establishment, including leading establishment liberals like Noam Chomsky and Alexander Cockburn, have worked to sell the Warren Commision's 'lone gunman' cover-up. The amazing thing about the Kennedy assassination is that, despite a lot of nonsense coming from the mainstream media, the American people know it wasn't a lone gunman and the killers didn't do us a favor.
