Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Most people in modern Western society are obsessed with hair: hair they have, hair they don't, hair they don't want (there), the latest to-do about the do of the latest star or starlet--and yet there have been virtually no in-depth studies of hair in this culture. McCracken, a curator of ethnology, has written an insightful study of how Westerners redefine themselves by defining and redefining their 'dos, dont's, and dyes, and the fetishistic fascination with hair styles of the rich and famous.

Although written primarily about women's hair, and in particular, blond hair, my entire household--men and women alike--learned a great deal from the in-depth analyses of these dead strands of protein extruding from tiny pores on our heads which nonetheless have extraordinary power in determining status and even wealth. Recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Hair as a window to the emerging self--the transformation.......1999-11-09

I read this book in a single day. It deals with the way we (mostly women) use hair as a first step towards identifying ourselves and even identifying (or trying on) the self we are becomming. It was straightforward but lighthearted and kind. You could tell the author enjoyed the research. Hair as a window to the soul.

Book Description

A hair-raising journey through the era when big was king.

In the beginning, there was the hair. And some of the hair was bad, but it was small. As men and women everywhere worked to improve and increase their lot, however, they stumbled onto some of humankind's most miraculous innovations: spray, gel, mousse, crimping irons, and of course, the perm. With these new tools, people everywhere suddenly found themselves able to coax their lank, lifeless tresses toward glorious new heights. The age of big hair had begun.

Now, the greatest of these bouffants, afros, rakes, beehives, and Flock-of-Seagulls have been plucked from their spots in hairdressers' windows and given the respect they so clearly demand. Bigger and badder than you ever dreamed possible, Big Hair goes out to all those people of yesteryear who were unafraid to think BIG.

1 out of 5 stars Big Hair, Bigger Rip-Off.......2005-12-07

This is a cut-and-paste non-book that features a lot of punky 1980s hairdos that never made it into the mainstream and were purposely ironic and off-putting; so there's not a lot of snickering "what-were-they-thinking" laughs to be found in this small tome. The book should have been titled "Outrageous Hair For Homosexuals." Strangely enough, there's not a lot of "big hair" in the book! Many of the women and some of the "men" depicted have short hair, so go figure. The book is also completely devoid of text or credits or captions or any historical perspective--just a bunch of kooky pictures probably retrieved from Dumpsters behind salons in Manhattan and West Hollywood. A book on "big hair" should probably show us beehives from 1962 or Cleopatras (the kind of Priscilla Presley used to sport) or preacher pompadours (like Oral Roberts) or Elvis Presley and Jack Lord or country queens like Dolly Parton and Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn and show us big hair from history. Nothing doing. This one's definitely a hair-don't!!

5 out of 5 stars Whoa!.......2004-05-02

"Big Hair" is an understatement for some of the hairsytles represented in this book. Some are best described as Outrageously Big Hair. Tons of feathering, teasing and aqua net went into the creation of these styles! You won't be able to put this book down, it's like a train wreck that you can't stop staring at.

Like it's companion book "Bad Hair," I first saw this at my hair salon. The funny thing is, my stylist said that people are starting to request these styles... whoa!

4 out of 5 stars Another hair-larious book (bad pun intended).......2004-01-19

Innes-Smith is back again with another hilarious book. When you were a kid waiting at the salon/barber to get your hair cut, do you remember picking up those large books filled with the latest hairstyles? I remember thinking they were hideous back then. Well, they really were hideous/hilarious and the author has collected them for this pictorial of bad coifs. Great book to leave on your coffee table to amuse your guests.

4 out of 5 stars A small book about big hair.......2004-01-03

One of the authors of "Bad Hair" is back with another off-the-wall collection of atrocious but funny Do's. But this time, they are so voluminous that they make Marge Simpson's hair look like a crew cut. The photos, gathered from window displays of hair salons, depict a dazzling array of outrageously hairy heads. Frizzed, teased, poufed, upswept, sculpted, bobbed, and coerced into outsized and unnatural shapes, these hairstyles are not for the faint of heart. Captions would have enhanced the presentation of these masterpieces.

Book Description

Bald in the Land of Big Hair is the hilarious-and often heartbreaking-tale of Joni Rodgers's journey through the badlands of cancer told with humor, occasional anger, and unflinching honesty. More than just a cancer book, this is a deeply affecting memoir of one woman's struggle to come to terms with everything that life throws her way.

Ultimately, this is a moving celebration of the true meaning of human triumph and courage, the importance of community and the imperative of living everyday with joy.

3 out of 5 stars So-so.......2007-09-10

Perhaps I'm just very sensitive to the topic of cancer and general, and despite the fact I realize humor has it's place in cancer treatment, as well as treatment of the whole person, I did find offense to a few aspects of this book. The author obviously has dealt with this trial first hand and knows the importance of tactfulness in such situations, however I felt saddened by it at times and wonder if it would also sadden a newly diagnosed cancer victim.

I would recommend this book for someone that has a good support group, knows the monster they are dealing with, and is strong enough and ready for humor.

2 out of 5 stars Offended and Disappointed.......2007-02-27

Rodgers writes this book from a Christian perspective, but as a Christian I was offended by the language and explicit nature of this book. She explains love making early in her chemotherapy treatment, and discusses the smell and taste of body fluids in explicit detail. This part was at the beginning portion of the book; I finished the book, and found this to be the most offensive bit. Negative attitude and raw language were scattered throughout, however.

This being said, Rodger's story is an honest, provoking one. Her story is interesting and useful. The reader just needs to understand that, as a Christian book, this has some very offensive, unnecessary language.

5 out of 5 stars Funny and real - in the land of Very Scary Things.......2006-04-03

This is one of the best books I have read lately. It's definitely not a cancer-as-slapstick memoir. Joni Rodgers got horribly sick, could have died, and she pulls no punches as this book surveys the physical, emotional and financial wreckage.

Yet she weaves laugh-out-loud passages into her story, which also resonates with tough spirituality, honest frustrations and fears, and love. Lots of love.

I'm buying an extra copy, to pass along when I think someone could benefit from reading it. I want to hang on to a copy, though. There are things I can learn from reading it again. Things I wish I wouldn't need to think about, but for the sad fact that someone I know is likely to be diagnosed with cancer in the future. Maybe with Joni Rodgers' book under my belt I can feel less helpless and find something useful to do for them.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Combination of Tragedy and Humor!! .......2006-02-22

I read this book because I asked my fiance to bring me any book from the library and he picked this one because he thought I'd like it...and the reality is that YES I DID LIKE IT.

"Bald in the land of big hair" is a very very good, inspiring and hilarious book. The mix is just perfect.

Joni Rodgers tells us about her life and the huge impact on her life when she discovered she had non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. This book really touched me in many ways...I never thought someone could find a way to write about the combination of tragedy and humor like Rodgers did...she just makes us see her journey thorugh cancer and how she survived it.

We all know (or at least have a idea) of how horrible chemo is.....Although nobody knows its effects that well as someone who has been through it...but at least we heard horrible things and Joni just found a way to express us how she suffered but in a sarcastic-funny way...which takes a lot of courage..especially when you talk about something as scary as having cancer.

Joni Rodgers also tells us about the conflicts with her kids...the way they reacted toward their mom's condition; the feeling of being a bald woman that screams out cancer; the mental and physical strugle, the relationship with her husband, etc.

This is a great book. I REALLY recommend it. This book has a meaning for cancer survivors, cancer victims and those who suffer with someone close who has cancer...my grandma has cancer but she chose not to have chemo because of the scary effects of it...

Anyway get Bald in the land of big hair...even if you are neither of the people I said...get this book...it gives you a insight into what cancer victims deal with.

I laughed outloud throughout most of the book & thought this would make a fantastic "country sitcom" for television! Bertie is someone I would like to know! Be prepared to laugh!

5 out of 5 stars Love to Read, Love to Laugh.......2006-02-28

I adored this debut novel. I had read the reviews and was prepared for funny, but in places, this novel is hilarious. And Ms. Wilson's take on Southern women is so dead-on. In reading, I had flashes of relatives that were just amazingly accurately depicted. I love it that the protagonist fails her way to success. That just made the book for me. One question remains: When can we read Bertie's next adventure?

4 out of 5 stars Delightfully cute and easy to read.......2005-09-13

Bertie Byrd is your typical Mayberry RFD tomboy, with a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humor. She isn't so lucky in love and she's beginning to wonder if she ever will be. But the ins and outs of her every day life as written in the first person, are filled with humor, delightful scenarios, and a taste of melancholy where her parents are concerned. I don't know when I've enjoyed such a light-hearted read so much, and was so pleased with the ending. Dolores J. Wilson must have a heart of gold and it shows in her writing. I'll be looking to buy her next novel when it's published in December.

5 out of 5 stars A delightful and funny read!.......2005-05-19

Bertie the tow truck driver and a host of equally colorful characters make BIG HAIR AND FLYING COWS a reader's treat. It's funny and well-written. I'd compare it to Jan Karon's Mitford series or Tamar Meyers's Penn Dutch Inn mysteries as the author gives you a slice of small town life rich with drama, crises, and laugh-out-loud humor. I hope this is just the first in a series because I can't wait to read more of Bertie's adventures!

5 out of 5 stars series of vignettes mindful of Mossy Creek .......2005-05-04

All Roberta "Bertie" Bird wants is to live a normal life. However that is not easy when you drive a two truck five days a week in which your neighbors in Sweet Meadow, Georgia think is a taxi service. They will do anything and everything to get their ride. Even moving out from her parents' home has not proven easy since the owner and previous resident elderly Pete Forney constantly sneaks out of the nursing home to "visit" Birdie when he is not trying to toss her out.

She has males in her life, but none reach first base because the zany world intrude from Catch 22 zoning laws to running over a mattress that destroys her wrecker that places "Dirty Bird" on national TV. Following the death of Pete, Birdie meets Pete's son Arch and his granddaughter Petey; they make her feel normal except he fled when she kissed him. Life in Bertie's beloved rural Georgia means the sublime is the norm.

BIG HAIR AND FLYING COWS is a series of vignettes centering loosely on a series of misfortune hammering at Bertie that is similar in many ways to the Mossy Creek tales. Bertie is a delight as her efforts to obtain normalcy is constantly devastated by those in need of her services. Her autobiographical account of sh*t happens is southern humor at its most jocular. Mossy Creek readers will appreciate a slice of life in Sweet Meadow through the eyes of a native daughter who just wants the garage sign changed to Bird and daughter from Bird and Sons as she remains while her brothers flew the coop years ago.

I sent this book to my niece and she just loved it. She's old enough to read it to herself, and when I asked her about it she took great pains to let me know why the step-sisters were mean and what was really important in the story (and in life). A fun read with a wonderful message woven into it.

Cindy Big Hair is a fairy tale about a little girl who wants to win the trophy for Biggest Hair at the Big Hair Ball. Her stepsisters always win the trophy year after year, but this year, Cindy's Hairy Godmother arrives to give her the biggest hair. However, in the end, it's Cindy's big heart that wins her the trophy. This is an awesome children's book - very funny, with colorful illustrations. Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars Daughter of a friend loves it!.......2005-03-15

Some friends of mine have a young daughter who absolutely loves this book. I've probably read it to her a half-dozen times already. She loves princesses, and since this is based on Cinderella, it qualifies. It's a good story with fun, colorful art, and the Hairy Godmother is fun to read. Definitely recommended.

Book Description

It's almost Cinco de Mayo, and Ricky's class is going to put on a play to celebrate the festive Mexican holiday. When asked to choose his costume, Ricky picks a big, bushy mustache, just like his dad's. He's tired of everyone telling him he looks like his mother.  After all, he's a boy--he wants to look like his Papi. Although he's supposed to leave it in school, Ricky wears the mustache home, reveling all the way in how grown-up it makes him feel. But by the time he gets there, the mustache is gone, and Ricky dreads having to tell his teacher what happened. Lucky for him, his Mama and Papi have a plan. Ricky is delighted the next morning when his Mama hands him a new big, bushy mustache--fresh from the smiling face of his clean-shaven Papi! With humor and tenderness, Soto evokes a warm celebration of both the beloved tradition of Cinco de Mayo and the strong bonds of love between father and son.

4 out of 5 stars Getting hairy with Gary Soto.......2001-11-19

"Big Bushy Mustache" combines text by Gary Soto with illustrations by Joe Cepada. They tell the story of Ricky, a young Latino boy. His teacher is planning to have the class put on a play about Cinco de Mayo, and Ricky will get to wear a costume mustache. But Ricky gets into a jam when he disobeys the teacher's instructions.

This is a fun book with an effective Latino flavor. Ricky is an engaging young hero. However, there is a weird gender identity subtext surrounding Ricky's feelings about the mustache; in my opinion, this aspect of the story is handled awkwardly. Otherwise this is a good choice for a multicultural collection of children's books.

    5 out of 5 stars Necessary Read.......2002-03-04

If you have any form of hair loss, this is a helpful book. It was written in 1992, and she made sure that she didn't cover medical treatments so that it wouldn't be out of date.

Instead, it deals a lot with the emotional and psychological issues that women deal with when they have a form of hairloss. It includes men, somewhat, but not much. But it's information is valuable for people with all types of hair loss, which is nice. It does lean heavy on the side of Alopecia areata as the author has alopecia totalis.

I borrowed the book from the library, but I will be buying a copy as it is a valuable reference for the emotional aspect of this dreaded disease.

I think this book is fab! i now own both of the first 2 books in the dream hair series and totally love them. this is a book with credibility, like kevyn's makeup books. the dream hair books have tips galore and cute side line storys for the 4 girls in the book. amazing pictures and advice even down to vitamin supplments to help better care for your hair (well, maybe that's in the city hair book... so buy them both!) i'm obsessed with beauty books but will only buy the good ones, these are definitely worth it
