disappointing.......2007-09-16
If you're looking for a little escapism with a guaranteed "happily ever after" this is a okay book for that.
I was greatly disppointed in the production quality of the audio, though. Major direction shifts (which character is now narrator) were separated by nothing. It felt like the producers sped up the speed of the narration overall, the read was quite fast & the indistinguishability of character changes made it less than appealing.
It was also very predictable for me. I foresaw the scenarios of Colette's former boss, the wedding twist, even Colette's resolution at end. It was all very much just like a fairy tale. Maybe the original book was, too, but this one was transparent to me.
Great Story.......2007-08-14
I love the Blossom book series of stories. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I love the different stories going on in one book.
Love Blossom #3.......2007-08-07
I've read all of Debbie's knitting books and love each of them. Debbie draws you in and takes you through the Blossom Street area with her writing. I feel like I am part of the Blossom Street knitting community and look forward to the next project as well as what is taking place in the lives of Lydia, Susannah, Alix and the rest of my new "knitting friends."
back on blossom street.......2007-08-04
cant get enough of her books on blossom street, she captures your interest from page one....strongly recommend whole series
Six stars for Debbie Macomber.......2007-07-27
Debbie Macomber has written another wonderfully glorious book about the knitting friends. She has such a welcoming way of writing that the reader feels like an active participant in the group - that these women are her best friends too! I find myself laughing, crying and anguishing right along with them.
Book Description
The Knitting Revolution? What`s revolutionary about knitting today is who is knitting (the new knitters are young women and retiring baby-boomers), what they are knitting (exciting yarns and projects), and most of all, why they are knitting (it feels good: the process, its creative and relaxing qualities, is at least as important to them as what they are knitting). What better time for a fresh approach to the learn-to-knit book?
Join The Knitting Revolution focuses on the knit stitch. With introductory chapters titled The Basics of Knitting, What You Need to Know Before You Begin a Project, and So You`re Ready to Start Knitting, this primer is the closest thing betweeen two covers to a knitting coach. Hundreds of clear, step-by-step photographs take you through each skill. Always the goal is to show you what you need to know when you need to know it. Choices are given, so each knitter can find the way that works best. Then the skills are put to work (and into a meaningful context) in the chapter`s projects. Loads of tips and special attention to details ensure that absolute beginners can complete any of the more-than-30 projects successfully; class, yet fun designs assure that they will want to.Like knitting today, this book is personal, passionate, powerfulexactly what the new knitter is looking for and irresistible to the already-converted.

Touted to be a simple book. Instructions were not. Be sure to check publisher site for corrections.
The best book for new knitters....and the rest of us!!.......2007-08-02
This is an amazing book. Sally teaches in the most logical way: She has you knitting from the start.
Oh, to have had this, when I began knitting! I can see myself now, trying desperately to do what felt like a dozen things at once. None of that. By beginning at the very start with just the knit stitch (not a dozen others), you can find yourself making some of the most beautiful pieces I have ever seen.
And for those who, like myself, are knitters now, here is a book full of delicious patterns to relax whilst making....as well as, to use to help friends & family to begin the adventure as well.
Simply the best there is.

Love this book. My daughters have both requested that I knit them the Einstein Coat.
Jersey girl comments.......2007-05-12
I found the Knit Book to be easy to use.I made the Einstien Coat and love wearing it.Melville explains even the simplest things or complicated things in a way that gives confidence so you can proceed to a completed garment.
The Knitting Experience: Book 1: The Knit Stitch.......2007-03-08
Excellent step-by-step instructions for those of us who are beginner knitters. I have made a sweater from this book that I love and in the process learned a lot about the art of knitting. Highly recommended!
Book Description
Picking up where The Knitting Experience: Book 1: The Knit Stitch left off, this primer on the purl stitch uses clear, step-by-step photographs to guide beginner knitters through unique knitting projects. A natural progression of skills is taught, and each skill is punctuated by a knitting project, enabling new knitters to create an entire wardrobe featuring jackets, sweaters, hats, socks, and mitts. The book acts as a knitting coach, offering advice, anticipating difficulties, and providing rescue techniques. Patterns are presented in an accessible format with ample text, photographs, and line drawings. While this book is written for the new knitter, more advanced knitters will enjoy the knitting projects as well.

Purling, the next stitch........2007-05-12
When The Purl Stitch came out I bought it right away. I was eager to try something new.Reading the book is as important to me as trying the patterns. The examples are challenging and fun to wear.
Lots of hints and help.......2007-01-15
A good book for beginners to intermediate. Lots of good directions.
Some nice patterns. The patterns are very spelled out. Easy to follow.
Best Instruction Book Ever.......2007-01-10
I took up knitting again after many years. I have purchased many instruction books, but this is by far the GREATEST! Purchase the KNIT Stitch book also and you won't need any other books.
A "Must Have" book for knitters.......2007-01-10
The Knitting Experience: Book 2: The Purl Stitch by Sally Melville is a "must have" book for any knitter. It clearly explains the basics of knitting but expands the experience by allowing the reader to grasp the simple concepts that make complicated knitting projects. The patterns it offers are simple yet elegant. I've been knitting for almost 30 years and I still learned from this book.
Another great book.......2006-11-09
I purchased this book days after I purchased Book 1-The Knit Stitch. I just loved that book, and even though I hadn't completed one project yet, I HAD to have this book.
The title is slightly misleading because unlike the first book in which all the projects are using only the knit stitch, this book opens up an entire new would of stitches because of the combination of stitchs you can now do. I recommend everyone add this book to their library too!
I must admit that there are more projects in the second book that I'm just not as interested in as the first. But that is just my tastes and obviously I wouldn't suggest everyone else would feel the same way. But the instruction in this series is impecable!

This is the best reference book I have for knitting. If you're looking for a good problem-solving book, buy this one!
Fantastic "Answer" book!.......2007-08-19
This book, written in a "Q and A" format is perfect to tuck into your knitting bag. As a novice knitter, this little book has become my best friend. It is easy to look up how to do something when I'm knitting and need a bit of help. I think it is a well-laid out book and is an invaluable resource for any knitter. This is an essential tool for the knitting bag!
Great little book.......2007-08-11
This is a small but THICK book containing everything you need to know about knitting. It's the book I go to when I need to find out how to do something I don't understand in knitting. The one on crochet is just as good.
Great resource!.......2007-07-30
I bought this book because I am new to knitting and it really is everything I had hoped it would be! First off, the size is great - perfect for carrying around in your knitting bag 24/7. It has answered all of my questions so far and helped me when I've gotten stuck on a project. Also, much to my surprise, the instructions are often better than my "full size" knitting books. This book is great for anyone who is a novice knitter and would probably even be a valuable resource for someone who is more experienced.
Book Description
There's a little yarn shop on Blossom Street in Seattle. It's owned by Lydia Hoffman, and it represents her dream of a new life free from cancer. A life that offers a chance at love . . .
Lydia teaches knitting to beginners, and the first class is "How to Make a Baby Blanket." Three women join. Jacqueline Donovan wants to knit something for her grandchild as a gesture of reconciliation with her daughter-in-law. Carol Girard feels that the baby blanket is a message of hope as she makes a final attempt to conceive. And Alix Townsend is knitting her blanket for a court-ordered community service project.
These four very different women, brought together by an age-old craft, make unexpected discoveries -- about themselves and each other. Discoveries that lead to friendship and more . . .

The Shop on Blossom Street.......2007-08-14
I liked reading this book. The author must have talked to someone with cancer because many of the feelings that I had during the three years I battled cancer were the same as Lynda. It was predictable. You knew everyone would have a happy ending to their story, which is not a bad thing but not realistic.
A Great relaxing Read.......2007-07-27
I thought this was a wonderful book. The author did an excellent job of developing the characters in such a way that made them seem so real to me. I read it at the beach last week and could not have asked for a better read as I soaked up the sun and just relaxed. Overall, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book to all my friends.
Knitting or not.......2007-07-27
This book and the others relating to The Shop on Blossom Street, was like making new friends and escaping to that shop for just a while.Although I do not knit, almost makes you want to. Excellant
Where did I put those knitting needles?.......2007-07-14
A quick and easy read, with believable characters... which one were/are you? I found myself accurately predicting the ending too early for there to be much suspense, yet I enjoyed the stories of each of these ladies and their friendships. I used to knit... maybe I will again... with a group of ladies after reading this first book of the knitting series.
Great Book, New Shop.......2007-07-13
I have read the first two books in the series "The Shop on Blossom Street". Great book. Good Stories. By the time I was done I thought I would like to learn to knit. Recently in the last several month, I came upon a yarn shop in a nearby town. I decided to check it out. When I went in it was cute and had a table in the middle of the shop. The girl told me after she read the book she knew she had to open a shop. I talked to the girl and she ask if I had read "The Shop on Blossom Street" and I said yes. Her shop is designed after that book. PERFECT!
Without knowing me the girl ask if I have read the second book. I said no and she grabbed it off the shelf and handed it to me. It is called "A Good Yarn"....the name of the shop. It was also a very very good book. There is one more in that series. "Back to the Shop on Blossom Street". I do not have that yet.
So, when I took the book back to the "YARNS R US" shop, the girl handed me a card to see if I wanted to learn to knit. I am going to the class this weekend. 7/14/07. What's really neat is that there is a series of knitting instruction books designed from "The Shop on Blossom Street".
Really neat. The socks are in there whick is from the second book.
The sweaters from the frist book are there too.
Buy the books, neat clean reading!!

"Must have" book for knitters.......2007-08-05
Besides the clear instructions, photos, and illustrations, this book has so much info that you never find in pattern instructions. I agree with all the other good things previous reviewers have said.
Note to publishers: All instruction books should be spiral bound as this book is. I can't for the life of me know why they all don't do it.
Every Knitter needs a reliable text!!.......2007-06-08
I bought this book on the advise of an experienced knitter and I am
very pleased with this purchase. The instructions are will written and illustrated. She offers multiple techniques for knitting situations.
The book fits in my knitting bag and the spiral bind an added plus!
MUST HAVE BOOK .......2007-05-12
Short and to the point: If you don't have this book, buy it. If your budget is small like mine, make a wish list and tell your family and friends it's in your wish list. OWN it.
A hearty thank you to Nancie Wiseman for writting this book!!!
Beginner's Encyclopedia.......2007-05-09
Clear descriptions of many knitting techniques with great pictures. I just started knitting and was confused about some pattern's stitch descriptions. This book cleared them up. It is a closed spiral bound book, handy to keep open while practicing a stitch or method. It's worth buying for reference.
Not just endings.......2007-04-17
I highly recomend this book. It has some of the clearest examples of how to get your finished project put together without the usual cursing and bleeding all over the yarn. Clear pictures, plain english information, very understandable instructions even to a beginner.
I will note, however, that you should look this book over before you START a project. many of the best finishing techniques mentioned in the book have to be set up at the beginning, by casting on an extra stitch, or ending each row a certain way. This is in no way a fault, but many people do not look at this book until the project has started, and it should be consulted during the planning stages.
Customer Reviews:
Best basic book I ever bought about knitting.......2004-05-20
What a pleasure to have this in my knitting library. The format of this book is so simple and delightfully uncomplicated I can't figure out why it did not get published again and again. You have at your disposal patterns for basic garments in infant, youth, adult men & women sizes. Then you have the opportunity to also choose weight of yarn; sport, worsted, bulky. If you choose to make a more complicated or stylish version of one of these classic patterns ideas and suggestions to stir the imagination are right in the book.
I had a copy of this in early 90's. I had found it at a garage sale for $0.50. WHAT A BARGAN. I used it in many projects then loaned it out...Never to be seen again....Until I thought of searching Amazon for "out of print books". At a total of less than $15.00 I now have thousands of knitting options and sizes and types of yarn again at my fingertips. I could not be more delighted with the speed of delivery from "abebooks.com" through Amazon or the price at which I was able to replace an almost lost edition for my knitting library.
A Knitting and Crocheting Must.......2003-02-05
I received this book in the 80's as a gift. I've used it over and over again. It contains sizes 6 months through adult for knitted and crocheted sweaters and has sections for baby, worsted and chunky yarn. I'm buying a second copy for a friend.
Book Description
This very comprehensive book on the craft of Macramé can be used by beginners and experts alike. It explains the basic knots and describes the materials and equipment needed to begin. After giving patterns and directions for simple projects like belts and necklaces, it proceeds to bags and purses in great variety, dress accessories and hangings. More advanced techniques, such as twining and wrapping, the numerous illustrations, both diagrams and photographs, clarify the techniques at every stage. Some outstanding designs by contemporary artists are featured and these, with the author's own enthusiasm and expertise, should inspire the reader to create original pieces of decorative art.
Customer Reviews:
Very comprehensive overview of different knots.......2007-07-12
The expanded illustrations of knots are very clear, and the art gallery and the examples are inspiring. I particularly liked the suggestions for combining macrame with other techniques.
Fun and Informative!.......2005-07-28
I really enjoyed this book on macrame. I learned a lot and find that many of the techniques which I had thought were difficult are really quite easy once you get the hang of it. My sister and I go through this book together and have a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has an interest in this hobby.
Excellent book for beginners.......2005-07-06
Yes, this book is an excellent basic book, for people who are just knitting their first knots, which in this book are clearly explained, drawings included. So beginners, this is an ideal book. The book also offers instructions for some projects (not instructions for all of them), which could be inspiring. However, I think these projects belong to traditional art (folk art, I mean); they are not fashionable. Perhaps the challenge is to create up-to-date clothes from the basic knots.
The Best.......2003-11-14
I have been doing Macramé for quite some time and recently I have started to teach it as well. I own a number of Macramé books and I still think this is the best book for beginners to start out with. The illustrations for how to tie the knots are the best that I have seen and there are hundreds of ideas for projects.
Outstanding book.......2002-11-05
I bought this book more than 10 years ago.I have the 1972 version)Recently (this year) I started reading it and doing the projects.I have never done macrame before. To my surprise I have done the first 4 projects easily and fast. This is a wonderful book .Ms Bress is an excellent teacher.30 years and still great.

Customer Reviews:
My favorite knitting book!.......2007-01-15
This is my favorite knitting book! I am an adult who had a terrible time with "traditional" knitting books, and found this clear, simple and loaded with nicely progressive projects that take you from the simple knit stitch to making a sweater in the blink of an eye. The projects are so fun. I've enjoyed making them and can't wait to teach my kids. I like this book a bit more than the Klutz Knitting book because it takes you a bit further into more difficult projects, but Klutz make a darn nice little kit and the book is great (albeit a bit more limited) - another favorite of mine! Happy knitting!
Kids Knitting.......2007-01-09
This book presents learning to knit in an easy-to-understand format. It is great for new knitters of all ages. I found the simple illustrations very helpful, when used in conjunction with the straightforward directions. The book is the next best thing to having your own knitting teacher!
Not for Left - Handed People!.......2006-04-28
If your left - handed this book is NOT for you. I thought a lot of the projects were to advanced for beginners.
the knitting/purling method is overly complicated.......2006-01-20
I'm surprised that no-one has commented on the overly complicated knitting/purling method used in this book.
The book shows only one way to make a knit/purl stitch, and it's slow and torturous. You insert the right needle into the stitch as you normally would when knitting or purling, but then you hold the point where the needles intersect, pick up the working yarn with your free hand and wind it around the needle. Then you pick up both needles again and complete the stitch as usual. This method would frustrate any child, enough to get them to stop knitting altogether.
Great Book.......2005-08-26
This is a well-written and beautifully illustrated book. It contains a variety of interesting and appealing projects that will be an inspiration for beginning knitters of any age. I highly recommend it.

Book Description
Pleas join me at A Good Yarn! It's a wonderful little knitting shop in downtown Seattle -- a place of welcome and warmth, of friends old and new. Come and discover how knitting a pair of socks can change your life!
Debbie Macomber
Lydia Hoffman owns the shop on Blossom Street. In the year since it opened, A Good Yarn has thrived -- and so has Lydia. A lot of that is due to Brad Goetz. But when Brad's ex-wife reappears, Lydia is suddenly afraid to trust her newfound happiness.
Three women join Lydia's newest class. Elisa Beaumont, retired and bitterly divorced, learns that her onetime husband is reentering her life. Bethanne Hamlin is facing the fallout from a much more recent divorce. And Courtney Pulanski is a depressed and overweight teenager, whose grandmother's idea of helping her is to drag her to seniors' swim sessions -- and to the knitting class at A Good Yarn.

I love this book. It kept me really interested. Very hard to put it down.!!!!
Just a warm and touching Story.......2007-08-07
I have read Debbie Macomber's "The Shop on Blossom Street" and I thought that book was just a wonderful story. Again the author didn't disappoint me with this delightful tale "A Good Yarn". The story continues with the shop in Seattle that was opened by Lydia Hoffman, a cancer survivor. A new knitting class is created this time the project is knitting socks. New ladies appear in the class which I enjoyed their characters. No need to go into detail as there are numerous reviews already. Overall, this is a special, warm and touching story that I highly recommend. Bye.
Very Good book.......2007-07-23
I purchased this book not sure of what to expect. After the first chapter I couldn't wait to finish. I finished this book in just a few days and I am not an avid reader. Debbie Macomber has become one of my favorite authors and I find myself looking for all of her books. This book is excellent, just like the others I've read from her.

Good Read.......2007-06-14
I love the way Debbie Macomber developes her characters, she makes them your friend and you care about them by the end of the book, that is why I'm so glad she wrote a sequel, I hope they go on for many a year. Great Author, great read.
