Incredible Book!.......2005-08-20
A must have for anyone who is wanting to become a model. This book offers insight information that is both vital and informative. The authors, Eric Bean and Jenni Bidner illustrate this book with fantastic photographs and beautifully written compositions of what should be expected by models and what is expected of them. I absolutely love this book and recommend that anyone who is even faintly interested in the subject manner should read this book. It is truely a fascinating read.
All the basics of what it takes to become a model.......2005-06-09
It's fitting that art and crafts book publisher Lark Books should then move to a book on photographic modeling, Complete Guide For Models: Inside Advice From Industry Pros: it's a logical transition and offers the power of an art book publisher paired with the expertise of a fashion photographer and fashion editor. Models will learn all the basics of what it takes to become a model for the artist; from posing for commercial print ads to special opportunities for men, women and child models. Complete Guide For Models could have easily been featured in our 'Business and Careers' section, but is profiled here so artists and art library holdings will catch sight of it: it's an important, recommended instructional guide for the reference collections of artschool, artists and sculptors.
I Loved the interview with Supermodel, Carmen Dell'Orefice........2005-06-03
It was really informative hearing from a model who has modeled for 50+ years. I recently saw Carmen Dell'Orefice in a runway show in NYC, and she looks great. Great interview, great photos.
I learned alot from this book.......2005-05-22
I live in a small town in California, and i want to be a model. I always dreamed of going to NYC and being a runway model. I asked a few of the agencies in nearby towns, but they didnt know much about NYC. I got this book, and it answered alot of questions i had about modeling. The modeling schools near me charged alot of money, to take classes, but i learned just as much from this book. I can't wait to go to NYC now.

LOTS OF USEFUL INFORMATION HERE!!!.......2003-05-10
This book is quite useful for anyone who knows very little about the modeling industry, and wants to know exactly what to expect if they decide to persue modeling, as either a hobby or a career. This book is extremely thorough, answering any questions you may have about the modeling industry. It even gives names and addresses of popular modeling agencies around the world!!! The make-up tips were somewhat useful, as well. After reading this book, I had the confidence to send my portfolio to a local agency. I have been in 5 print advertising ads and 2 television commercials here in Detroit. I am so greatful I read this book!!!
Read This Book!.......2000-09-05
My wife and I have been in the modeling business for over 15 years and have started thousdands of models and actors. Marie's book is one that we suggest to all our aspiring talent. It is a great overview of the industry!
Except for Nikki Taylor, who's heard of anybody in this book.......1999-10-18
I guess everybody's an expert, but I found the hair and make-up techniques recommended in this book silly and outdated. Models today wear no make-up (maybe moisturizer or lip balm)to castings unless they're coming directly from a booking. Ditto for hair-'do's. The book could have addressed skin care and healthy lifestyle for today's young people rather than touting superficial strategies from the 'experts'. Do you want to know how to become a model or how to get a date?
A MUST-HAVE for anyone who wants to model!!!.......1996-10-15
I've met Marie Anderson Boyd and listened to her speak at a model search. When I got back home from the search, I checked her book out at the library. I learned soooooo much from that book. If you're going to get into modeling, then this book is a MUST HAVE!! You will learn so much that you won't know what to do with all the information. Everything from how to get an agency to represent you to diet and exercise tips. It's not a dry read either, I COULD NOT put it down; very interesting and at times humorous too

Aspiring Model.......2004-11-16
I am impressed with the amount of information this book gave. It really guides you step by step & made me realize that even though I'm short(5'2), I can still make it in beauty, print, petite & junior/teen modeling.
Basic advice.... little real information.........2004-10-03
This book had no real advice. Most of it was just common sense advice any person shold know. Seemed geared for 15 year old girls only.
Very little substance........2004-08-31
Essentially this book, with its large fonts and generous helpings of superfluous pictures, contained scant information about the modeling industry. The pages are just filled with very shallow and unsubstantiated statements such as, "Your agent will navigate your career, setting in motion a business and promotional plan geared to market fully your unique looks and talent", with no further elaboration. Take for example its chapter on "Ethinic Modeling". It glazes over the subject on how its such a promising area of the industry and tops it off with two short interviews with 2 female black models - 7 pages in all, with plenty of pictures might I add. The interviews themselves were just as disappointing with superficial statements of little substance that only glamorizes the modelling industry. Above all, the author insults the reader's intelligence by shamelessly pitching the Wilhelmina modeling agency almost every other page. In fact, the entire book's message boils down to - try to sign up with an model agency (no less the Wilhelmina) and expect a 20% commission rate. Those who have rated this book 5 stars are obviously the author or Wilhemlmina employees.
this is why models have management.......2004-05-10
Like many models getting started in the business, I didn't know which way to turn. The hardest part is to qualify clients and to only work with those that will keep the image of you that you would like to promote in the market place. This book really doesn't outline this aspect of the industry. Good management is what got me a blossoming career in this business. Thanks to Digital White Boy Management, http://www.digitalwhiteboy.com , I've made it in this industry.
Very outdated.......2004-03-17
I was not impressed with the lack of real information. I could have gotten more information by talking to a "working model" for 10 min. The fact that Wilhelmina has been a part of soo many modeling scams, makes me think that this "advice" is off base too. All fluff , and no substance.

This is a great book for folks who are looking for basic information about the modeling industry and tips for getting a foot in the door. Having gone through some of the areas discussed in the book, it's right on the money about expectations and industry structure... Very helpful!
Pretty Ironic title don't you think?.......2007-06-15
Ignore my rating. Wouldn't know if it was any good. But the title gave me a laugh. :o)

Not that special..........2005-11-18
i wasn't very impressed. i bought the book for an airplane ride and was very disappointed to find how often the author wrote (these are examples) "you can find great ones online" or "skin care tips online" or "list of top best photogs worldwide online." i didn't have a computer and i wanted to know what they were talking about. if you don't have access to a computer 24/7 this book is not for you. EVEN if you have access to a computer 24/7 this book is not for you cause than you CAN look it all up.
Model & Talent 2001.......2002-06-18
I think this book can help me a lot for what i want to do in my career because i had always wanted to be a model. People always say that i should be a model because of my body and beauty i really want to get into a school of modeling but i dont know which one i cant find one right now i'm 16 yrs old and i want to start now. So i wish to order that book to know whats up in modeling.
Thank You
Runway, Runway, Runway.......2001-08-28
This book concentrates both in text and photographs, on runway modeling. Generally, runway models (outside small towns) are models who have already 'made it' in print modeling (editorial and advertising). This book is sorely lacking in the fundamentals of modeling -- like finding out where you fit and where your potential lies.
Your Modeling Career.......2000-05-15
Because I am in New york I have a lot of chances to get into the modeling world. Finally I have a good guide to help me get started. I especially love the runway photos which are exciting and very well done. This is a great book.
I Really Recommend this book. Excellent!.......2000-04-11
For someone who lives in a country outside the United States,it is a good thing to find a book like this one which emphasizes theuse of the Internet to find out about the modeling business. I would recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about becoming a model but does not know where to start. There is so much info in it, that having used only a tenth of it, and I'm already happy with my investment.

Very helpful!.......2000-01-12
I am just starting out as a model and I had so many questions. Is modeling for you? was the perfect find. It gave me insight into the modeling business and helped me to understand the steps that are necessary to succeed. I feel much more conffident now that I have read this book. Every aspiring model should read it.
Tells you things other modeling guides don't, like..........1999-10-13
The fact that the majority of today's sucessful black models started at black agencies, and there's a listing of them in this book. It was helpful, but if you're already established as a model, it may seem redundant.
a great book for all models.......1998-02-18
i recommend this book, because it gave me all the information i needed to get started in a modeling career.

Customer Reviews:
Very little information, and ALOT of fluff.......2004-07-30
I was surprized when i recieved this book at how little information it really contains. It seems to be the same basic advice, rehashed over and over. I was surprized because of all the
More Fairy Tales.......2001-08-28
When will writers stop glossing over the world of modeling and start telling the truth. Yes, there are superstars, although they are kept at bay these days. Books need to tell young women more facts and less fantasy.
Stating the obvious.......2001-07-04
If you choose to buy this book, you can happily skip the first half of it. The majority of the book's content is case files from models. Most of this case file information seems to state the obvious, although it may useful to some readers in moderation. After reading one or two models' tales the book becomes painful to read - it is the same story told again and again. The book does offer relevant and useful information on modelling (if a little US centred) but you must be prepared to wade through the endless waffle to find it.
fabulous for beginners.......2000-01-09
this book was really great and a worthwhile read if you truly know nothing about the buisness. the author is the editor of seventeen and tells you the stories of how she developed some models careers and she lets the reader know that it is perfectly normal to get discouraged in this buisness and that most of the top models in the industry struggled for years before they made it "big" it is important to be educated about this buisness before you start and this is a good book to look over before you get going. she gives you a list of all the reputable agencies and teels you about all the different ways to get into the buisness weather it be by convention or agency or otherwise. the book is easy to read and understand. the diffeent sections are labeled and divided clearly. it was a very helpful book for me. and if you have the time it is defenitly worth the money! good luck
The Modeling Life.......1999-11-28
This book was a great resource for wanna-be models. It had many interviews with people like Tyra Banks and Niki Taylor. This book also had many nice pictures of future supermodels such as Jaime Rishar.
Book Description
This book will teach you the best, safest, and most economical way to get started, find agents, photographers, managers and even casting directors.
You will also learn how to create the photos desired by agents and photographers and even get them taken free.
This book will even teach you how to market yourself and get work on your own, even if you don't have an agent.

Very Helpful for a Modeling Career.......2007-10-03
My son is an aspiring model and actor. We attended a very informative class that featured Mr. Marcus. He covered a wealth of information on how to succeed as a professional model - things that it may have taken years for us to learn on our own. There was so much information that we felt that his book was a must. We refer to it often and recommend it highly.
Fantastic resource!.......2007-09-25
I would highly reccomend this book to anyone starting out in the commercial modeling industry. It is a must have as far as industry handbooks! I followed Aaron's advice and got all of my daughter's photo shoots and headshots done free of charge. This saved us a lot of money in building her portfolio and it also allowed her to gain experience as a model. As a result, the photographers have since used her for paying jobs and it helped pave the way for other commercial work. I would not have known how to go about this if it had not been for this book. Aaron was also extremely helpful in taking the time to answer all of my emails personally whenever I had further questions regarding how to create a resume, finding a good agent, model release forums, etc. We also had the opportunity to go to one of Aaron's seminars, which was fantastic! If you ever get the chance to go, I would highly reccomend it!! He has so much insight and knowledge about the industry.
Thanks for all of your help Aaron!
If you are interested in commerical modeling, then this book is for you.......2007-08-01
I read this book hoping that it would give me some insight into the field that I was embarking on. I found the book to be an easy reader. I read it in 2 days because I am just getting my modeling career started. The book gives practical and realistic advice. Because the book was written by a model, the information to me seemed very relevant. The book is written as if Aaron is actually talking with you face to face. He is very real, direct, and straight to the point with his tactics to help you get started in the modeling industry. I knew I liked the author immediately when I saw how he used "thinking outside the box" tactics to get work.
As a result, of reading the books I have tried some of his methods; and it has worked. Currently, I am signed with three agencies because I followed the directions in the book. If that is not enough, I took the initiative to e-mail Aaron ( heck, I sent him my Comp Card);and he e-mailed me back and gave me some great constructive criticism. Even though, he was on his way to NY he still took the time to e-mail me back and he insisted that he would e-mail me with more in depth comments about my shots when he returned. Well, he returned and I got an e-mail from him. It really meant a lot to me because I was like holy smoke the author really cares about his readers. In addition, he has an informative website " how to model.com" that can be very helpful to new models.
This is a must for any new commercial model.
Thanks AAron,
Cheli
Aaron Marcus knows the ropes.......2007-07-13
Aaron Marcus knows the ropes and has a much more rare commodity, he is willing to share his knowledge of a complex, competitive and challenging industry. Read "How to be a Successful Commercial Model" and learn how to from a pro who really does know.
Not that great, but what else is there?.......2007-06-27
I wish there was a good book about commercial modelling out there. I guess this is as good as it gets, its a little helpful. And yeah, I think its a little suspicous that every one who liked the book says its the greatest book ever, without saying one bad thing about it, and almost all of them are other authors or anonymous or at least have'nt commented on any other books but this one.
