Customer Reviews:
Great first book for baby.......2007-09-29
As mentioned by other reviewers, this is a flap book that teaches babies different body parts by playing "peek a boo" and hiding the babies' mouth, feet, belly button etc. This was the first book my baby ever focused on when he was around two months (I think it is due to the movement of the flaps and the bright pictures). At four months he still enjoys this book over most of his other books.
Bright and Colorful.......2007-09-17
I had never heard of Karen Katz until I came across this book last Christmas and decided to buy it as a gift for my then 9-month old son. One of the best decisions I've ever made. He loves it just as much now (almost a year later) as he did when I first got it for him. I have no idea why this book tickles him so much, but anything that keeps him happy an laughing is a permanent hit with me. We've since purchased more books by Karen Katz and he enjoys them all, but "Where Is Baby's Belly Button" is by far his all-time favorite!
Flaps hard to open.......2007-09-16
I bought this book based on rave reviews and recommendation for my daughter. While it's a great concept and the colors are eye catching, the book was a real flop for my daughter and I because the flaps were so hard to open. My daughter would lose interest between "Where is Baby's mouth?" and the time it would take for me to reveal the body part. When she was older, she also had trouble opening them, and we had to bend a few flaps to make it easier. I really try to avoid this book during story time.
Fun Read.......2007-09-13
Our son's only 3 months old and even though he probably didn't get a kick out of it we did....can wait until he can understand it!! HEHE
Great flap book.......2007-08-29
If your child loves 'Lift the Flap' books, then he/she will love this one. It's great for teaching body parts.

Book Description
Emboldened by the enthusiastic response to
Belly Button (Round)—a song from her Grammy-nominated book/CD,
Philadelphia Chickens—Sandra Boynton further contemplates this mesmerizing subject.
Featuring a beachful of bare-bellied hippos—including one tiny baby who can only say “Bee Bo”—the
Belly Button Book is the latest quirky addition to the phenomenally successful Boynton on Board series. Every page captivates with Sandra Boynton’s inimitable illustrations and joyful rhyming text:
Soon after dark, upon the beach, we sing a hippo song, and if you’re feeling in the mood, we hope you’ll sing along: “Belly Belly Button, you’re oh so fine. Ooo, Belly Button, I’m so happy you’re mine.”
Shiny and sturdy, and featuring a great (navel-shaped, naturally) die-cut cover that offers a provocative glimpse of the merriment inside, the
Belly Button Book provides enduring, giggly, read-aloud fun.

Great books!.......2007-09-24
Sandra Boyton books are always a big hit at our house-she writes some terrific children's books that all kids seem to love!
Super Fun.......2007-09-01
I bought this book for my husband to read to our 7 month old daughter because he gets so bored with traditional children's books. We also own other Boynton books and we have all of them memorized. I think it is important to teach children that reading is fun. If you have fun reading it, they will catch on.
great baby book.......2007-06-27
one of my one yr. old grandson's favorite books! what better review than that?
Cute but not great.......2007-05-21
I really enjoy several of Sandra Boynton's books. I and my daughter love Pajama Time, Snuggle Puppy, and Barnyard Dance. We like a few others like this one. My only complaint for this book is that it shows imodesty. I want my children to dress modestly and though these are hippos who really don't wear any clothes. Children, especially young ones don't recognize that.
oh so fun for all babes.......2007-05-19
I sent this to my grand daughter who was not even one yet, and little wee ones love rhyme and goofy phrases and with the colorful pics, it was a huge hit as were the others I sent by Sandray Boynton, what a delight and such fun to share the joy and laughter of a babe

These are, hands down, our daughter's favorite books. She enjoys them over and over. The illustrations are bright and cute -- highly recommend these books -- especially the lift the flap -- she LOVES them.
Baby's Box of Fun.......2007-05-13
I purchased this book set for my grandson when he was 12 months old. Listening to books is the only time he actually sits still. His favorite book was Toes, Ears, & Nose although he likes all the books because they are interactive. The only problem with the books is if he is left unsupervised or even when holding him, he rips off the flaps in the books. We have had to glue them back on numerous times. I would highly recommend these books but you must be careful with babies that are aggressively interactive with the books.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!.......2007-03-28
This item was received as a gift and my 2 yr old loves her lift the flaps books. Her favorite out of this collection is "Where is Mommy". I have also purchased them for my friends children and they love them.
Never received mine, bought from 'oktrbks'.......2007-01-05
I bought this from 'oktrbks' and never received.
Contacted the seller and was asked if I want another copy so I said 'yes'
I have not received this yet. I was waiting for this because I believed the seller will send me an another copy. But now It's been more than 90 days so I can not even get my money back.
Not a big money but doesn't feel good at all about the seller's feedback.
Will see if the seller will contact me about this item or not.
I sent an memo to seller today again.

Book Description
A little boy must come to terms with being teased and ostracized because he’d rather read books, paint pictures, and tap-dance than participate in sports. “There is a good balance between the simple text . . . and the expressive pictures . . . an attractive little book.”--School Library Journal
Customer Reviews:
A Great Story for Self-Worth.......2007-05-14
This book describes how Oliver is happy, not playing sports like all the other boys, but taking dance lessons. His parent support him, but at school, he is called a sissy. After a community talent show, which Oliver does not win, his schoolmates realize he is a winner. Oliver stuck with his dreams and desires, against the odds. To me, this story is great for kids, as it illustrates how to stick with something if it is what you desire. It has a great message for children as well as care-givers. The illustrations are wonderful, too.
Pretty Good, Not DePaola's Best.......2005-11-28
Tomie dePaola states in the liner notes that Oliver's story is partly autobiographical. "I could spend hours drawing, and nobody ever asked me to play on their ball teams because I was so bad at it."
Oliver's pursuits are less than gender-appropriate in the eyes of his male peers. He enjoys dancing, dressing up, acting, reading, and drawing. His father doesn't approve, either, but his mother and his female peers come to his aid. This help, however, works to Oliver's detriment: "Gotta have help from girls," the boys say teasingly. In the end Oliver, however, Oliver succeeds on his own terms.
This testimony to being oneself was written in 1979, and includes dePaola's signature drawings using a limited color palette. Though it isn't as charming as the Strega Nona books, it effectively delivers its message.
Great beginning, but fizzles out.......2005-07-27
I bought this book because Oliver Button is very much like I was at his age. He is more interested in playing with girls and doing activities that are not usually done by boys. I also thought it would be a good way to teach children that they don't have to conform to gender roles. However, having worked with elementary school children in various settings for years, I found the story to be very unrealistic.
The beginning is good. We are presented with a feel for Oliver's dificulties. Everyone wants him to be more like other boys. His father wants him to play sports, but he wants to dance instead. His mother enrolls him in a dance school, and he learns how to dance. He perseveres despite the fact that his peers are pestering him for being a "sissy"; they even write "Oliver Button Is A Sissy" on the wall (hence the title). The girls defend him by giving the bullies a talking-to. The bullies stop beating him up, which is a bit unrealistic; boys who are bullies hate girls as much as they hate boys like Oliver.
I was disappointed by the ending. Near the end, Oliver signs up for a talent show. His act involves tap dancing. The other children in his class, at the teacher's suggestion, go to see him perform. If you think this seems unrealistic (why would children who hate Oliver go to see him perform?), you will be even more disappointed by the last page, when Oliver goes to school after the talent show (which he didn't win) and finds that the wall no longer reads "Oliver Button Is A Sissy" because the word "sissy" has been crossed out and replaced with "star." Just because he does a performance doesn't mean those who formerly hated him will like him. I know this because I tried it myself at his age!
Though I like the ideals the author was trying to communicate, such a tacked-on happy ending is very misleading. You want a book about teasing, read Chrysanthemum. You want a book about prejudice, read Dr. Seuss's The Sneetches. You want a book about children who become successful, read Ibi Lepscky's Famous People series. You want a book about gender roles, read William's Doll. Anything but this book!
Oliver Button is a Sissy by Will Herman.......2003-03-14
I really enjoyed this book. It is about a little boy named Oliver Button. This little boy doesn't really care what other people think, he likes to do what he thinks is fun, and that is it. He doesn't do normal things like other boys, he dances, and jumps rope for exercise. He got a new pair of tap shoes and the older boys teased him and called him a sissy and wrote it on the wall. Oliver still kept going to dance school and practicing and practicing.
When there is a talent competition, Oliver signs up to be in it. During the competition he did a tap routine and ends up losing. His parents still thought of him as a champion and when he goes back to school, instead of Oliver Button is a sissy on the wall it says Oliver Button is a star. I would recommend this book to a lot of people because this is a very entertaining book. It shows that if you have fun doing something thats a little different, keep doing it no matter what other people say.
It's OK to be Different!.......2002-06-24
This is an excellent book that confronts gender stereotypes and the importance of accepting people for who they are. Oliver Button does not engage in the traditional activities that boys do, and thus, he is faced with repercussions and consequences (based on how others feel Oliver should behave/act). I teach fourth grade and - though a picture book - it is the ideal book to discuss self-confidence and diversity and the significance of accepting individuals while recognizing their accomplishments and contributions.

The Button Box (English).......2007-02-20
A good story for young readers. An great bood to use to introduction classification and characteristics used to classify.
Excellent picture book to teach writing.......2005-06-23
I use this book for grades 3-5, reading the story first, then showing them my button collection. Each child chooses a button and writes a story. It is amazing to me how a small button can "spark" a story but it works! And I give this book a lot of credit for creating enthusiasm for doing so.
Real-World Pleasure.......2005-04-12
I use this book for Kindergarten story time and, as always, try to find a way to help them see a relationship between the story and their lives. Sorting by colors and sizes is something they enjoy, and they are thrilled when I bring out a REAL button box for them to poke through. The artwork in this book is well done and shows the wide variety of buttons students might see; I thought having Girl Scout uniform buttons was a nice touch. "Cute as a button" (which I print on bookmarks for them) is a phrase we hear often over then next few months, and everytime someone finds a button they bring it straight to me. This book is an excellent reminder to students about finding joy in everyday things.
P.S. I also set out Taback's "Joseph Had A Little Overcoat" which has buttons on the back cover.
The Button Box.......2004-01-26
I am a First grade teacher and this book compliments my Math series at school beautifully! I am currently using the "Investigations" program in Math, and this book really allows for the children to see the different kinds of buttons and how the little boy sorts them. This book is a good introduction to any lesson about sorting!
If you have a button collection & kids this book is for you!.......1998-12-09
This simple little book will provide hours of entertainment to any child who has a mom or grandmother with a botton collection. As children, my sister and I would spend countless hours sorting my mothers botton collection. Believe it or not - buttons are fun! This book is the perfect compliment to any botton collection.

Customer Reviews:
A must read!.......2003-06-10
I Bought this book as a reference for technical issues (formats, standards, procedures) but I got much more. Button gives you the whole layout of this art/craft of film editing. The topics covered range from editing equipment to film theory, color harmony&design basics to writing resumes. Light, sound - this book covers it all. Not all topics are discussed in great length, but there are excellent reference lists for further reading and websites.
Bryce Button seems to be an experienced editor and a film scholar and clearly enjoys teaching.
I have been a film editor for 10 years -I've still learned a lot. Some of the information will be redundant to the more experienced but still- very well written, packed with knowledge, insight - in short, a real inspiration. Well Done!
Very good advice for beginners.......2003-05-24
The book contains tons of very good advice for novice editors. The tips on planning will save a lot of time when the real work begins. The suggestions on the practical and aesthetic (including sound) aspects of editing will speed up the process and improve the quality of the finished work, perhaps by the equivalent of at least a few month's apprenticeship. The chapters on dealing with stress and team members, clients and the business, give an idea of the work environment to be expected. After reading the whole book, chapter 13 summarizes the most important tips as "cheat sheets" - very useful.
The only thing I didn't like was a number of typos, and what I thought was an occasional lapse in a couple of explanations.

Fascinating introduction to Buttons.......2002-07-22
This book was a wonderful introduction to the history of buttons and the variety and beauty of a generally overlooked accessory.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and have used it as a resource on many occasions, as an amateur collector and when sewing. I was fortunate enough to meet the author, at her stall at Covent Garden in London, as an Australian tourist, and found her as delightful and interesting as her book.
thoroughly enjoyable with great detailed pictures.......1999-01-28
The information is general in nature, with some history but I loved seeing how different buttons enhanced the same fabrics. The detail is very sharp with vivid color.
Customer Reviews:
color photos.......2007-08-02
It would have been great if the photos were in color, this is something that makes looking and finding the buttons so much easier. Having color photos adds a lot.
The Best for Button Terms and Information!.......2007-07-22
This is the very best reference book available under $200. This updated issue is beautiful, includes price estimates of buttons featured, and is the reference book every Button Collector owns. (The only other MUST own button book is Big Book of Buttons, $200, IF you can find one at all.) My button club uses it for many of our meeting programs. "Most Excellent" book! Janice in Niwot
From abalone buttons, to work-clothes buttons.......2003-09-15
Compiled and written by Sally C. Luscomb (the co-publisher of "Just Buttons" magazine for a 35-year run), The Collector's Encyclopedia Of Buttons is now in a fully updated and significantly expanded reference which presents more than 3,000 collectible and classic buttons from across all time periods, materials, and manufacturers. The Collector's Encyclopedia Of Buttons features entries that cover everything from abalone buttons, to work-clothes buttons, and zodiac buttons. Straightforward, highly accessible writing and enhanced black-and-white photographs, The Collector's Encyclopedia Of Buttons is a one-of-a-kind resource for professional dealers and dedicated collectors.
Good illustrations.......2000-05-31
I like this book as there are many illustrations and after reading the book I had a deeper understanding of buttons. This is an informative book and I would encourage those who are interested in collecting buttons and those advance collecters to read it. Another book similiar to it and I would reccommend is Antique & Collectible Buttons : Identification and Values.
