Flirt, Attract and Seduce ; great advice here.......2007-08-30
Excellent social pick up advice for flirting, being a smooth talker, and enhancing your look attitude and skills in attracting women. We all know women are the biggest players out there in the clubs. It's nice to see there are now some guides for men looking to even the playing field.
This book could be bought just for entertainment value alone, as the writer is seriously interesting and off the wall, with some pretty great observation jokes throughout. I never thought of asset protection before, but the facts he presents show only a fool would ignore his advice of not setting it up before getting married. Cool book.
A-W-S-O-M-E!.......2007-08-25
A must read if you want to be successful with beautiful women. Another new bestseller which is another must have and I highly recommend - The Exclusive Layguide: When Dating and Having Sex with Incredibly Hot Women is No Longer Mirage Even If You Don't Look Like a Model or Don't Make a Fortune
Great books!
Worth Reading.......2007-08-21
I just finished reading the majority of the book. Pretty good information but fairly vague and contradictory at times. This is acceptable as there are obviously many different personality types out there. Author has a dry and amusing sense of humor. The asset protection chapter is worth the price of admission. A legal pro would be required but you might as well know the basics before you go. Lack of protection is financial suicide. Ask around. Great suggestions for visiting foreign destinations to meet women. I have done so in the past and find the author's point of view right on. The chapter only covers 3 locations but I suppose that is what his other book focuses on (The Hedonist). Overall the book serves a as good pep talk and insight into the female psyche for those who don't realize how dark, destructive, and irrational they can be. His obvious skepticisim towards women in general would suggest a lifetime of interaction with them. Overall the book is entertaining and educational.

perfect for photographers.......2007-05-24
This is a perfect book for photographers, with sample forms, explanations as to how and when they would be used, and a CD with the same forms that can be customized. Very very useful, and excellent purchase.
Legal Forms for Photographers.......2007-05-14
This is a good book for someone starting out in professional photography. Lots of information and background provided within.
Very helpful.......2007-04-12
The book has a lot of forms for photography such as Wedding and Portrait contracts are very helpful and the book comes with a CD-ROM too.
Great title for photographers.......2007-03-09
This title is a great addition to any photographer's library. If I ever need to find a contract or form to use, this book has it. If it doesn't have it, it does have something similar to what I need so I can adjust it to work for me.
Speaking of working for me...the CD included with this title is a God send. It has all the forms from the book in RTF and Word form. This is nice because you can just go add names or make edits as you see fit without having to retype everything on a page.
It also explains thing you need for each form if you want to create your own (such as basic guidelines for a consent form).
I'd recommend this book to any photographer without an attorney or many years of business/legal experience.
How to Protect Yourself as a Professional Photographer.......2007-01-09
This book contains forms covering every area of photography. A must-have for everyone who makes or wants to make a living as a photographer.

A wealth of information and by a great author(s).......2007-06-27
I first purchased "The Fighter's Body: An Owner's Manual: Your Guide to Diet, Nutrition, Exercise and Excellence in the Martial Arts" and found it to be very practical and focused on what I needed to focus on as a studying martial artists. I followed this book up with:
- Timing in the Fighting Arts: Your Guide to Winning in the Ring and Surviving on the Street
- Solo Training: The Martial Artist's Guide to Training Alone
- Fighter's Fact Book: Over 400 Concepts, Principles, and Drills to Make You a Better Fighter
All of these are great books and I look forward to selling my house (I had to hide Bob from perspective buyers... that face!) so that I can put Bob in my new garage and start abusing him with all of these new concepts... one by one... it will take a while!
Thanks!
David
Blah!.......2007-05-14
This book was everything you already knew, put into writing. I diagree with a few of the techniques, but that is because I prectice muay thai not tae kwon do. I also thought there was lots of stuff that was left out of the book. There are lots of things you can do at your house to train for martial arts that were not included in this book. I recoment you go get the Bas Rutten martial arts work out. You'll love it if you are serious.
Enlighting!.......2006-07-06
The ideas and training was really helpful, a good tool for training at home when you have no partner to train with.
Not very useful for me.......2006-06-28
I agree, solo practice is very important. If you have no clue what you could practice alone, are training karate / tkd / krav maga, and fairly novice, there might be some good drills for you.
If you train something "softer", or martial arts that emphasize body unity (Chinese MA, Judo, Aikido, systema etc), this is probably not your book.
A problem whith this book is that it has plenty of drills, but the detailed instructions on the techniques are lacking. This is OK if you assume the reader has trained longer, or atleast gets the details from their own teacher. But if you've trained longer, i doubt you'll get much new info from this book. And if you've trained less, IMO you need more detailed info. If you need to ask the details from your teacher, you'd be better off asking the drills from your teacher too.
Atleast one good option is "Attack proof" by Perkins / Ridenhour / Kovalsky. It's more a self-defence book, but had drills i found actually useful and new to me.
Excelent for beginers, and for Fitness.......2005-12-20
This is a very good book. Don't look into it though if your a black belt or higher, won't offer too much. This book offers great basic intruction, although it does detail on form, I'd listen to my instructor over this book. It comes from a karate point of view, but the drill are good for all martial art forms. No, there's no great training secrets or anything like that in this book. Any book or person that claims to know a secret of training is lying anyway. These bread and butter (basic) moves and drills will help you become faster and stronger when practiced regualrly. I increased my kicked height and speed, as well as my punching power and speed by using this book.
Customer Reviews:
Really nice book.......2007-07-31
I got this book for my life drawing class and I really like this book. It does not teach anatomy or proportion. It shows the classical way of doing figure drawing and how to do finish rendering. It's more traditional approach and really helpful. I have learned a lot from it.
Good for drawing "live".......2006-07-17
Very usefull, very pleasant to read. I was expecting more explanations about the relationship between anatomy and the human pose, but it's more about how to look at the model to draw it well.
Thank God for an excellent figurative painter!.......2006-03-04
Ryder's book is a delight to leaf through, looking at the excellent life drawings in red earth, done with the same accuracy and passion as the masters of the past.
He gives a very clear account of how to tackle the drawing in phases, until it is finished.
I would have rated the book a solid 5, were it not that in my opinion Ryder spends too little time giving advice on how to measure proportions, which are the basis of a successful life drawing or portrait. He is undoubtedly a masterful draftsman, but the less experienced artist reading his book would expect to be led step by step on such an important aspect of drawing from life.
Excellent, but..........2005-11-05
The general consensus of the reviews I've read is that this is a fine book, but not for beginners. My take is somewhat different.
First of all, I think this is a fine book for a beginner if she or he is not (unlike most beginners it seems) indignant at the idea of having to have exercise patience and concentration.
Anthony Ryder is a fine draftsman and, to judge from this book, a fine teacher as well. He explains his method quite admirably. How others can think otherwise is a mystery to me. As far as I'm concerned, he does an excellent job of combining instruction in mechanical technique with broader insights into the process of drawing. While I have never met him, I find he comes across in this book as quite a likeable person.
I do, however, have a reservation. The author seems to have little understanding of, or at least does not convey, the limitations of the method he teaches.
For accurately conveying the appearance of still subjects in controlled lighting, I think this method is without better.
Many subjects, however, cannot be portrayed accurately using this method. You simply cannot make a good drawing of a living deer or chickadee, for instance, using this framework. Nor can you portray human subjects that are impractical for studio sessions, for instance a battle scene with many people (try paying just one model for 8 hours of posing) and in positions that no model can hold for very long or at all. All the work of A.R. that I have seen is either of inanimate objects or of human models in relatively leisurely poses, and his method reflects that.
Nonetheless, learning to draw accurately from still life is an essential skill for those who want to do realistic work, and this book is an excellent foundation. However, if you want to work with subjects other than lounging models and objects on table tops, you will need to go beyond it.
Figure Drawing.......2005-08-12
Mr. Ryder has compiled wonderful book for the figure drawing beginer that includes many types of drawings and drawing media, from pencil to charcoal to pastels. It is extremely well ilustrated with many great tips for the beginers. This is a book that I highly recomend for those just starting to those are already on their way.

Great Fundamentals for Nutrition and Exercise.......2007-04-28
Christensen and Dimeer are a couple of class acts. This book covers the fundamentals of Nutrition and basics of exercise for Martial Arts effectivness. No secret diet plans here, just the verifiable fundamentals that work. Oh yeah, and you will have to put effort into your own fitness. No magic bullets. Good stuff.
OK, but meant for martial arts competitors only.......2007-04-01
So much of this book is dedicated to competition. The exercises given are pretty basic, a few new and interesting ideas, nothing tremendous or special. I've read through it cover to cover and while the writing is entertaining it just wasn't suited for me personally. I was looking for more extensive and dynamic exercises, ways to improve all around performance that I wouldn't see other places. This book gives you ideas and tips on improving your performance, but they are run of the mill ideas that you would get from an averagely knowledgeable person.
Motivational.......2007-02-04
My wife bought this for me and I read it (all but two chapters on cutting weight) in a single sitting. I've gone back & re-read several chapters & sections. It's hard to give it a better recommendation.
The information contained in the book isn't earth shattering. It's lots of common sense, but it's communicated in a very interesting and motivational manner. It doesn't offer a single magic bullet but instead simply describes the hard work necessary to take off weight and/or put on muscle through exercise, nutrition and rest.
It's a good read and a good reference.
Light overview.......2006-12-02
There's a lot of fluff and useless opinions littered through out the book. Some references to researched material were made but the author didn't expand on them too much. For a person who had never done any reading on this subject matter will find this very easy to read and will have a general understand of what book they should buy next :). For the rest of us that demand more, this book doesn't cut it.
Great supplemant for any martial artist!.......2006-03-07
What a great book! As a student of a traditional martial art, I have access to in depth information concerning kata, application of kata, the history of my art, the spiritual concepts important to my art, etc. What I do not always have access to is information about how to train, excercises and stretches that I can use to supplemant my training, and nutritional information that will facilitate my training. While this book does place a certain emphasis on training for tournaments and competition, it is excellent overall, and should be helpful to any martial artist. It is easy to read, and the authors interject humour and personal anctedotes throughout the writing.
Customer Reviews:
Cheap and Easy.......2007-08-23
This book came in a good condition within a decent amount of time. It was way cheaper than other stores/sites. Cheap and easy is what I like, so this book was a great buy for me. Kudos to the seller: I'd shop again with them anytime!
Mixed-media delight.......2007-06-27
This is a great book and a wonderful journey into the world of mixed media. I loved the section on how to alter real photos!
Beautiful images.......2007-05-27
This book has many wonderful pictures and lists the items need to use for the effects but the instructions are not specific enough for a beginner to dive right in if they are not familiar with certain products. I find myself looking through for techniques that I have not used and really wish that several of the projects were a bit more specific. Overall I really love the book but could see that it could be overwelming for someone who is shy from trying new things.
wonderful.......2007-03-25
in my job as graphic designer I often get stuck in a certain way or ideas of a design and this book just popped me into a totally new way of thinking and giving me a ton of fresh ideas
Great Image Transfer Reference.......2007-02-03
I checked this book out from the library twice, and liked it so much I decided to buy it. My favorite feature: the book explains many methods to use for image transfers from copier, inkjet, and other image sources. It also has tons of full-color examples. I don't particularly care for the author's style of art, but the varied ideas, as well as the gallery of other artists' work, make up for it.

Inspiring approach to creativity.......2007-06-14
The layout and simple design of this book make it a pleasure to read and follow. The exercises are an inspiration for anyone feeling insecure about their artistic ability and somewhat lacking in confidence. Nita Leland makes it all seem do-able and possible.
Help for the stagnant mind.......2007-05-27
I love the format of the book and the way it approaches one topic at a time with great suggestions to get you started. Once I get started, I tend to keep moving. It's like playing and learning all in one. You learn a lot about what motivates and excites you by trying the many different techniques. I'm going to try them all from cover to cover.
The New Creative Artist.......2007-05-13
This is a awesome book for the times when you need a creative jump start. It takes your mind to new places. And offers many methods of creating.
Another fantastic book by Leland.......2007-01-31
I loved Nita Leland's first book "The Creative Artist". I love this new one even more. It is chocked full of great inspiring ideas and projects you can really sink your teeth into. Whenever I feel blocked, I just pick up her book and open to a page at random. I am never disappointed. This book is for all artists from beginner to advanced.
It is both visually exciting and educational.......2007-01-12
I bought this book to encourage my creativity as a quilter. The book is visually exciting and very user-friendly. Leland encourages readers to move around rather than necesssarily moving through the chapters in sequence. It has thought-provoking suggestions and exercises that are fun and educational. Several of my quilting friends are also interested in getting their own copies. I am so glad I have it.
Book Description
For 2007, The Official Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide continues to be the industry-leading reference for values on vintage and collectible guitars, basses, lap steels, mandolins, ukuleles, banjos, amps and effects. Expanding in '07 to more than 500 pages and including information on more than 1,400 brands illustrated by more than 1,000 photos, The Guide is the only such work to cover everything in one very affordable volume! Published by Vintage Guitar magazine, The Guide combines thorough research with a user-friendly format employing quick-find page headings, page-edge tabs, a comprehensive index, and a dealer directory that puts you just an e-mail or phone call away from guitar buyers and sellers in every region of the country. Also included is a detailed look at the "hows and whys" of the collectible instrument market.
Customer Reviews:
And these guys are the experts? .......2007-06-02
Simply put, page after page have inaccuracies and incomplete information. If a novice like myself can find the errors it makes you wonder who in the heck the "experts" are. Do they proof read this before it goes to print? I am talking EASY things that most guitar players know.
It is just disappointing that a book that has an impact on market pricing is so inaccurate.
Good Reference.......2007-05-07
This price guide is a good reference book for anyone interested in buying, selling, collecting or edjucating themselves on used and vintage guitars, basses, and amplifiers.
Very useful and complete guide ........2007-04-03
Excellent guide !! . It's the most complete guide I'd ever seen..
A good source for collectrors and not collectors too. Good Descriptions and details.. And very very complete..
You will find every intstrument you are looking for.
One of many useful tools.......2007-03-11
One can rarely perform any complex and important task, be it manual or cerebral, with a single tool. Research on any subject is a prime example; a single reference source is never adequate. This guide, while not as complete or exhaustive as some might like, is simply one of many reference tools, and an extremely useful one. Were the guitar market static, it might make sense to put together a voluminous compilation aspiring to be all-inclusive and unerringly accurate. But the guitar market is anything but static and this guide simply provides the best "snapshot" that it can at this particular time.
I must disagree with those other reviewers who say the prices in this guide are so vastly off the mark, and that ebay represents the new paradigm in pricing information. My own experience during the last few years has been repeated instances of wishful sellers justifying their asking prices by pointing to the "Buy It Now" prices of the burgeoning numbers of "Power Sellers" and "ebay Store" entities. Those prices obviously have no significance in defining the current market, because the vast majority of the listings expire without generating a single bid. Even more interesting are the numerous cases in which sellers have said that their guitars sold, at or above the asking prices, and then a month or two later the same sellers have the same guitars listed again. Were it to happen often enough, such fraudulent generation of apparent sales could help drive the market upward, just as those sellers are obviously hoping.
While ebay sales represent valuable pricing data, the authors of this guide have certainly tried to exclude sales to apparently collusive buyers, and probably weighted their analysis in favor of those sales that generated numerous bids.
A must for music collectors and guitar players alike........2007-03-06
This music collector's reference represents the only volume covering all the collectible guitars of the industry, and sets industry standards when it comes to determining market values of collectible guitars. Both musicians and collectors will want to keep this guide at hand: it blends quick-find page headings and an index and dealer directory for the entire country with an examination of what makes a guitar collectible. Add black and white photos and paragraphs of maker and model history and you have a price guide which can't be beat: a must for music collectors and guitar players alike.
Book Description
Still the best, broadest, and most complete introduction to the colorful, lustrously glazed, exuberantly decorated 19th-century ceramic art called majolica, this classic book, first published in 1989, is now fully updated. A brand-new chapter includes the latest information and 27 added color photographs of recently discovered pieces; 18 fresh color illustrations replace older black and whites; and an updated bibliography and list of museums with majolica collections make this book invaluable for the ever-growing number of majolica enthusiasts. The result, as Cape Cod Antiques & Arts said of the original edition, is "a serious reference for serious connoisseurs . . . It's wonderful."
Customer Reviews:
Great resource for collectors and modern majolica-artists........1999-10-15
First saw this magnificent volume at a collector's home, and had to acquire a copy for my library as inspiration for my own artistic endeavors with majolica.
One of the definitive books on Victorian Majolica.......1999-09-01
People all over the world treat this as the "Bible" of Victorian Majolica. It is the best.
Book Description
This book is an innovative guide to understanding and implementing the possibilities for self-promotion and marketing available to fine artists. With an emphasis on which strategies work and which don't, the author explains ingenious and not commonly thought of ways fine artists can become visible and establish a reputation, even on a small budget.
Customer Reviews:
Good information.......2006-08-28
I am a artist and bought this book to get more information on better ways to market and promote my work. This books offers very useful advice that is easy to understand and follow. If you are looking for ways to promote yourself and market your work this is a must read.
Do You Want To Know How To Sell Your Art?.......2004-06-15
As I am married to an artist, I can well appreciate the immense difficulties artists face when they are endeavoring to sell their art- work.
It is with this in mind that I decided to read and review Julius Vitali's updated edition of The Fine Artist's Guide To Marketing And Self Promotion.
Vitali's question in his introduction- how do fine artists create a reputation and career that will ultimately allow commercial galleries to sell their work- sets the tone of this extremely informative book.
We often hear the common complaint of artists that they have been rejected so many times that they might as well throw in the towel and forget about selling their work. A simple reply to the artist would be to persist and don't be discouraged. However, unfortunately this is not enough.
They must realize, as Vitali points out, there are other factors contributing to making an artist known, such as knowing about publicity, marketing, a clear and articulated aesthetic vision, networking, timeliness, and yes, a certain amount of luck.
Vitali deals with all of these elements in his eleven chapters that clearly point the artist in the right direction. In addition, the reader is also provided with brief profiles of thirteen successful artists, who have implemented to a lesser or greater degree many of Vitali's guidelines. When I was growing up my parents always told me that you learn from the best not the worst. In other words, find out why certain individuals are successful and learn from them. This is basically Vitali's motive for including these thirteen profiles, wherein the reader may be able to implement some of what worked for these artists.
There is also no shortage of interesting advice scattered throughout the book. As examples, did you know that making personal contact with magazines and newspapers is the most effective way to achieve success with these publications; be careful if you exhibit in the same area and repeatedly send media releases, this may turn off reports and reviewers; that more people listen to radio than ever before and this is an excellent opportunity to be known.
In addition to receiving some excellent tips as to how to market and sell yourself, the author provides timely resources pertaining to grants for individuals and special projects, corporate support for the arts, exhibiting your art professionally in a variety of venues, assembling a résumé, portfolio, and letters of recommendation.
A useful appendix at the back of the book deals with digital resources, Internet security and other related Internet topics, useful software, printers, ink and paper, and publishing.
Julius Vitali is a well- known international artist who has exhibited all over the globe, and his work appears in numerous public and private collections.
Artists who will devote the time to thoroughly read and probably re-read chapters that are most appropriate to their situation have the most to gain from Vitali's advice.

Making a Living as an Artist- The Real Deal.......2004-05-20
My copy of "The Fine Artist's Guide to Marketing and Self-Promotion" by Julius Vitali could not have arrived at a better time. I needed to approach numerous manufacturers to evaluate state-of-the-art video equipment for my own book project. The chapter on corporate support for the arts provided the right combination of factual information and inspiration that let me know I could anticipate a 75% favorable response to a request for product support.
This book prepares beginners for a life of living off one's own wits as an artist. It contains reasonably priced, low and high tech ways to promote your art on your own. It's required reading for anyone seriously planning on making a career in the arts. Art professors would do their students a big favor by making this book a required text.
Julius Vitali encourages artists to think of themselves as small business entrepreneurs, like painters of the Renaissance who ran their studios as businesses. In this revised edition, there are important chapters on running a home business efficiently, using media to get your work into the public eye, Internet marketing and making a career in Europe. Other chapters contain helpful strategies for exhibiting, grant writing, assembling a résumé and portfolio. I've been making a living as an artist for more than 25 years and this book taught me a lot of new strategies and unorthodox methods for marketing and self-promotion. It contains realistic information that could only be acquired from successful daily practice. Why start from scratch when you can get this type of help?
Making a career in the arts takes an aggressive approach to selling. Julius Vitali shows it can be done and how anyone can do it with straightforward, no-nonsense advice.
