Book Description
The Jackson 500 paintings are spontaneous compositions that contain the buds of many of Biskup's recurring characters, themes, and color theories. This volume contains the first one hundred in the series of five hundred business card-sized paintings, reproduced at actual size. A fine document of process and inspiration!

The Jackson 500 Vol. 1.......2007-08-05
I really have enjoyed this book. I like the small compact siZe.
I like the fact that there is no text and just bursts of color.
As an artist myself, there is inspiration in this book.
Because of it's siZe, I can take it with me on long trips. It
is not a book you sit down and view all at once, I have had the book
for weeks and I probably have not viewed all the images. The whimsy
in this book lends itself to dreams that you want to take in small doses.
The artist, Tim Biskup, seems to be a new good source of fun. I will
get the other 2 volumes, becuse I am anxious to see more of this artist's work.

Product Description
Oh, what IS it about two beautiful women locked in a forbidden embrace that just makes guys go a little crazy? Maybe it s that silly idea they'd invite us into their little lovefest. One can always dream, or look into the pages of this new art collection by the team of Mazzotti and Silvestroni. An erotic series of stories, each accompanied by a steamy full color painting, this first volume of lesbian friction is sure to raise more than eyebrows!
Customer Reviews:
Not that impressed with so few pages. .......2005-12-29
If I had no other books from SQP I think I would rate this a 2, or 3 so that's what I'll review it as. Usually with SQP books like this you get a collection of detailed pencil drawings of half clothed women, monsters, fem pirates and so on. This book is a bit different. There is a sketch (very rough) on the first page, and it's painted, and complete on the second. It's 48 pages total so if you buy these books to scope for pencil drawing reference your only getting half a book, and the pencils in this volume are at a very early stage at best. If you buy for the painting I've seen both better, and worse.
It seems like half of what is usually a short book to me. The sketches I could have done without, and probably would have given it a better review if it were 48 different pages that were all painted, or a collection of various artists doing detailed pencil drawings on the subject as many of the SQP books are. As it stands I think it's closer to a one than a three, but I'll leave it at three.
Mostly Art.......2005-11-30
This book is described as, "An erotic series of stories, each accompanied by a steamy full color painting, this first volume of lesbian friction is sure to raise more than eyebrows!" Well, only part of that description is true.
Each page spread has a color plate on the right. The left side has sketches related to the plate as well as the so-called story. There is only one real story in the bunch. Some of these are less than five lines long. Most of the ones I read had little to do with the actual art. If the idea of a sketchbook with stories is what has you interested in this then you will be disappointed. It really is just a sketchbook.
For sketchbook fans the art is clean wild. Some of the plates cross over into the hardcore zone which is not too common in the sketchbook (except those by Rebecca where it is the norm). A nice selection of artists take a swipe at trying to create an erotic work involving Sapphic love. There is certainly plenty of nudity and some hard action but whether you will find it erotic or merely titillating depends on your own taste.
Again, if you are looking for stories, avoid this one. If the pictures are what you want then this one is pretty good.
GIRLS ON GIRLS!.......2005-10-19
In the first in a new series of collections from SQ Productions, Velvet Love explores erotic girl on girl love. Stefano Mazzotti provides the outstanding art and Vincenzo Silvestroni provides the prose in this combination of sensuous art and evocative verse. Stefano Mazzotti was completely unknown to me before I saw this collection. I'm not sure how much of his work has been collected previously but he is one supremely talented artist. His women are drop dead gorgeous and if these pieces don't give you at least a tingle you must be on life support.
Full Color paintings alternate with pages of black & drawings. The text of Sivestroni accompanies the black & white drawings. The works are sumptuous, sometimes quite explicit, and always beautiful. One of the first pieces I love is found on page 5 showing a lovely redhead about to be shaved by another woman with a straight razor. This is a voyeur's dream! Pages 7 - 11 feature a series of paintings depicting girl on girl sex between cheerleaders.
Bondage fans will be big fans of Velvet Love as there are several fantastic pieces in this vein. One shows a woman, bound in chains providing oral pleasure to her leather booted, whip-wielding mistress. Another features a lovely blonde captive on her knees, tightly bound with leather straps and at the mercy of a nude, brunette wearing a fashionable leather corset. Then there is the painting of a leather masked dominatrix, riding her captive like a horse and spanking her backside with her riding crop.
In Velvel Love you'll find cowgirls and Indians resolving their differences in a most pleasurable way, wealth socialites enjoying the care of their French maids, and tattoo covered biker babes enjoying each other's bodies. For any man, or woman, who enjoys girl-on-girl sex, Velvet Love from SQP is required viewing. Another great collection!

Introducing an entirely new way of looking at art - the Sparrow series of art books. First up in this new line, 48 pages of Ashley Wood goodness, presented in a special hardcover format.
Customer Reviews:
Tiny book, HUGE talent!.......2007-10-01
Although it's a very small format for an art book, it's great, and you wouldn't be reading this unless you were an Ashley Wood fan. His work is classic - well informed by mid-20th century illustration, yet definitely contemporary. This one isn't what you'd call a coffee table/conversation piece, but it's nice for a quick flip-through! It's small enough to stick in your coat pocket and browse at your leisure in Starbucks or on the train. Cheap enough to pick up a couple and give them out as informal gifts. This is the first Sparrow book I've seen in person and I'll definitely check out the others! Have you seen his current work on the new Tank Girl miniseries. Nice stuff.
Great Art, but too small..........2007-01-03
I`ve been disappointed when I receive the smallest art book ever.
I`m the happy owner of Sencilla Fanta, and Sparrow doesnt even score close.
For curious fans only. At least is not too expensive.......2007-01-03
A mini sized curiosity with both old art and never seen art of Ashley Wood. If you are planning to buy Grande Finale don't buy this other too because all is in the big book. If you bought previously Grande Fanta you'll miss some great stuff in this book.
IMPORTANT!! This book is very small sized and has a square format so, much of the art in it has been cropped to fit the size of the book. All those pictures are in its full size in Grande Finale.

Customer Reviews:
great art, horrible presentation.......2007-08-01
this book showcases the art Suzuki created for certain products like videogames & novels plus there are also some original illustrations, I was first introduced to Suzuki's style in the N64 game Sin & Punishment where he handled the art direction, this book however does not contain any official artwork from the game like character illustrations, scenery or even the box art, I was told it was due to Nintendo holding the rights to it, whether that is true or not it is disappointing nevertheless, the only S&P illustrations in this book are from a Dengeki magazine cover & a novel, there is plenty of official artwork for Ikaruga fans however, what's poor about this book is the presentation, the editor chose to overlayed text & page numbers on top of the illustrations, this is an artbook so that was completely unnecessary and very unprofessional
Book Description
Christian Riese Lassen's stunning paintings have become icons of the beauty of the world's oceans. They depict the magical creatures of the deep and the flora and fauna of tropical islands. Some of his works capture tender moments between a mother dolphin and her offspring. Others provide a split vision of a lush shoreline and the teeming sea beneath.
Customer Reviews:
All Life Springs From The Ocean.......2003-11-17
Living in Southern California, I've always had a deep appreciation and love for the ocean and all the creatures that inhabit its waters. I'm also fascinated with the vast wonders of timeless space and am in constant awe of the moon and the stars and the clouds and the sun.
Christian Riese Lassen is a brilliant artist and he incorporates all those things in which I adore (although he has a popular motif for having whales and dolphins in his work), breathing life into the beautiful, mystical paintings. As I peruse this book, which I do quite often, it's as if I'm being pulled into the pictures. They're surreal yet familiar, like something from a distant dream, and ever so gorgeous.
I find it nearly impossible to choose a favorite among the 65 images provided here for my viewing pleasure but "Temple Of Light" seems to captivate me the most, causing me to stare the longest as I touch every inch with my seeking eyes, wishing I could step into the vibrant colors and live in the tranquil peace it exudes. But then I admire them all; especially how the full moon looks behind some thin pink clouds on "Home From The Sea" and how the intermingling of the cosmic universe and the majestic blue on "Whale Star" seem to go hand in hand, as if they belong together, which is used for the cover. There are also several pages of Christian talking about his passion for the sea and how it became the source of his art. A couple pictures are also included of him surfing and painting.
I tend to be mesmerized with fantasy art so I love how Lassen expresses that through reality with metaphysical standpoints and he's quickly become high in the ranks with some of my other favorite artists, such as Amy Brown, Brian Froud, David Delamare, and Josephine's Wall.
Oceanic Masterpiece.......2003-05-25
I love Lassen's work, and this book shows why. He is a master at beautiful scenic paintings. The colors are brilliant and keeps me wondering on how he gets his paintings to look like that. Although I think Wyland is the master when it comes to painting whales, Lassen is the master at painting dolphins. A must have to any art collector who loves oceanic art.
A LIFE OF VISION CONTINUALLY REVEALING!.......2000-08-23
"LASSEN ISLAND" IS A MUST OWN! It includes "sixty-five of Lassen's most evocative works...[and Lassen] captures the romantic allure of the Hawaiian Islands where he makes his home and pays tribute to the sea's great and endangered mammals."[commentator] His work spans from 1983-1997. My (newest) favorites are: "GALAXY OF LIFE", "COSMIC VOYAGERS", "WHALE STAR", "OUR PLANET", "SERENITY", "SEA OF TRANQUILITY", "PARADISE", "ANCIENT MYSTERIES" and "TEMPLE OF LIGHT". (Just to name a few!)
Also included is a fascinating essay writen by Christian himself about "THE SEA AS THE SOURCE OF MY ART", "NATURE ENERGIZES ME AND MY ART", "THE HIGHLY DEVELOPED MAMMALS OF THE OCEAN", and "OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE FUTURE." Christian writes with such sensitivity and style that even if you already have all of his art (books) this essay alone gives you a reason to buy this.
"LASSEN ISLAND" is the culmination to date of Christian's expertise. I never thought he could get any better but I was wrong! He has taken his art to the outermost level that I can imagine. "The images I paint are no longer simply representations of the forms of animals but the representations of their spirit" Lassen states in his essay.
"Ranked the number nine surfer in the world, Lassen is intimately acquainted with the mother ocean's ever-changing moods and awesome power." [commentator] Christian is one-in-a-million; not to be compared with anyone else. That is what a true artist is; in a class by himself.
A beautiful book.......2000-05-19
88 pages may seem small, but there is a color illustration on just about every page. The only problem I could think of is that there are no descriptions about any of the paintings, just the title. A small section in the back tells of how the ocean has inspired the artist. (It also says this book was originally published in Japan and was a bestseller there). The paintings often include ocean waves, sea life, or space. All are rendered in beautiful color. They are similar to the works of Jim Warren or Wyland. I recommend this book to anyone who is even slightly interested in art or the ocean.
hidden treasures.......2000-03-28
treat yourself...feast your eyes upon visually stunning undersea landscapes and creatures...browsing through this book feels like an underwater adventure.

The Valadon drama: The life of Suzanne Valadon
ASIN: 0967235529 |
Book Description
In Bohemian Paris of the 1800's comes the novelized biography of Suzanne Valadon, a tempestuous, beautiful French artist who was the model and mistress of the artists, Renoir and Lautrec. Lautrec discovered her artistic talent and sent her to Degas who became her mentor. She gave birth to an illegitimate son, Maurice Utrillo whom she literally forced to paint to quell his alcoholism, making him an important artist. Suzanne scandalized Paris by her amorous liaison with her son's friend, twenty-one years her junior. Her determination to overcome the obstacles met by women painters foreshadowed the problems of women today.
Customer Reviews:
Fun, informational and very well written.......2007-03-22
I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. It brought to life that era of art. It is obvious that this "fictional" book was thoroughly researched and based on the true story. I recommend this to all my art students and to my friends who want a spicy read on artists and that time period.
A Memorable Book, a Memorable Artist.......2002-05-17
As a reader interested in the Impressionist Era, I was particularly drawn to Suzanne: of Love and Art, a novel based on the life of the artist Suzanne Valadon. This very beautiful daring modeland mistress of Toulouse-Lautrec and Renoir who taught herself to draw and paint, was well portrayed, I felt, by the author. The obstacles against women artists which she had to overcome in the 19th century in her rise from obscurity, made for a colorful and fascinating novel and certainly an interesting one.
As a parent, I felt that the passages between her and her alcoholic son, Maurice Utrillo, were by far the best written in the book. The passage starting with "and on the fifth day with the daylight streaming through the window and with the snow plaguing Paris. . . .Maurice began to mix his paints," was a particularly moving one. In her forcing her son to paint in order to deal with his alcoholism throws out the question in this century, "How far should a mother intervene in her child's career?" Certainly, her son fought her desire that he be an artist. That is, at first. She followed her gut feeling and insisted. In these times, in modern psychology, her insistence that he paint would appear slightly ludicrous. But it worked! If her son had not become an artist, he would have remained a hopeless drunk.Yet I kept asking myself as a parent, "What would I have done?" The author, of course, followed the actual facts of Suzanne's life and Maurice Utrillo became a great painter.
Suzanne's dilemmas were twofold. Aside from her problem with her son, there was her life with her husband, a womanizer, 21 years her junior. Ms. Koren, again handled this deterioration well in her relationship with him.
I felt that the structure of the book a bit unusual, having the characters close to her in her life tell their version of their relationship with Suzanne. It was a fresh departure from the usual first person narrative.
I found the book interesting an well written and certainly shows the research and knowledge of the subject matter. There's also insight into the times. I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
A severe disappointment.......2002-04-19
The author manages to tell the story of this extraordinary life in the most laboured way imaginable. It is clear that she has done considerable research and she seems determined to force every finding into the story, regardless of its relevance to character or plot.
The attempt at an interesting narrative technique fails (each chapter is narrated by a different central character: Valadon herself, Lautrec, Degas, etc) because the 'voice' of each character is the same and no independent personality or emotion emerges.
Even the repetition of exclamations in French (just in case we forget that the book is set in Paris?) became pure irritation by the end.
I finished the book because the subject matter is of interest to me, but it was a struggle. There is no subtlety in the writing at all. I was suprised to learn that this is the work of an experienced author because it seemed more like the work of an enthusiastic amateur.
It is telling that of the two 'reviews' on the back cover, one from 'Bill Henderson - Editor and Publisher' is too brief to be informative and the other, from Germaine Greer, is clearly about the book's subject and not about the book.
If you are interested in Valadon, you would be better reading 'Mistress of Montmartre : a life of Suzanne Valadon' by June Rose.
Wow! One of my new favorite books!.......2001-02-25
Suzanne Valadon was certainly a woman ahead of her time. It is refreshing to read a book that gives such a clear perspective on all the challenges that women face, as artists, single moms and as sexual beings. And Suzanne managed to live such a rich life in a time when it really was unheard of. This book has let me learn about some of the most famous French Impressionist painters in an riveting and provocative way.
I thoroughly recommend this book.
A Must Read!!!!.......2001-02-14
I was completely intrigued with the overall contents of this book! It was hard to put down. "Suzanne" was very inspiring in the way that she over came many obstacles and lived her life to its fullest. The way she approached each day was adventurous and sensually done. I would recommend this reading for others near and far. To find the locket would truly be a treasure, I wish you all the luck in your quest!

A Laugh Riot for Cat Lovers.......2006-02-20
I'm allergic to cats, but I love famous paintings, and these parodies of famous paintings are great fun. I gave the book to a cat owner, and she said it was the best gift she had received. I especially cracked up at the explanation of why Mona Lisa has no eyebrows!
Just a gift book, really.......2003-03-06
I found this book very disappointing. I expected a book about paintings of cats, and what it ended up being was poorly-inserted cats set into famous paintings. I didn't find the prose very funny at all, either. I caught mine on sale (there is no way I'd have bought this 5" square book at full price), but after the first glance, I didn't bother further with it. I'm sorry I bought it. I'm still waiting for a good book about cats in art history.
Witty and informative, relating each cat to an artist........1999-04-16
Very enjoyable reading, lots of humor relating the cat's side of life to the artist's side of life. Can read straight through or skip around and go back to parts and laugh again! The artists are famous as the cats will soon be!

Book Description
Emily Carr was one of the few famous women painters of her generation, and today her work is being exhibited with and compared to that of Georgia O’Keeffe and Frida Kahlo. In this original picture book, Nicolas Debon traces Carr’s life through four of her best paintings. The first part, named after the painting Cedar House, shows her first sketching trip to a remote village, where she discovers West Coast native life and art. Autumn in France depicts Carr at work in a Paris art studio and immersing herself in the "New Art" of Chagall, Matisse, and Picasso. In Silhouette, her paintings are exhibited at the National Gallery and she meets with artists in the Group of Seven. Finally, in Beloved of the Sky, Carr reaches her full potential as an artist.
Debon’s illustrations perfectly capture Carr’s determined, eccentric character and the times she lived in. Readers will be delighted with the depictions of the streets of Paris, Carr’s caravan and pet monkey, and the natural world that inspired her.
