Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Decent book about fashion.......2006-08-22

This book is a very good primer into the area of formal dress.

As an earlier reviewer said, there are a lot of allusions to the 1940's, because the authors feel that the '40s are the last decade when the common man actually dressed well. I disagree, but let'sa move on.

As the title says, the book is about clothes one may wear to work. There are a lot of great combinations and a few that are horrendous. But, that is to be expected in a book about an area as subjective as fashion.

I would also say that the book should have specified that it is for both men and women. It is a bit disappointing to buy a book, only to see that half of it is entirely inapplicable to me.

This is a decent book for those who want to start learning about style and how to match clothes into combinations. I recommend it, but just barely.

3 out of 5 stars Better, but not great.......2005-10-06

Much better than the same authors' "Dress Smart Men" in the Chic Simple series. Presents a variety of clothing combinations, many actually useful. Would have been better if it had been seperated into one book for men and one for women -- half the book is useless.

4 out of 5 stars Fashion Advice for Beginners.......2003-10-06

This is the sort of book one gives to new grads, people re-entering the workforce, people starting a new job in a different company/region/field/etc. Lots of visuals, which is always a good thing in fashion advice books. Some of the printed info could have been better arranged. (The creators need to sit down with all three of Edward Tufte's books.) The type face of some pages was waaaaaay too small!

Another thing. This isn't really a book for women. The section containing advice for women is just thirty pages out of a total of 174. (hmm.)

Still, I'm glad I bought it a few years back. It has lots of good, basic info on clothing construction, fabric, color, classic style, etc., none of which has dated at all.

(Actually, I think I need to re-read it.)

2 out of 5 stars not much content for the size.......2002-04-16

The first thing you notice is the avant-garde wannabe type setting which distracts from the message. Then you notice there is a ton of "fluff" in the book. Quotes from books written in the 1940s that are supposed to convey what fashion was like back then and stuff like that; I didn't buy this book to find out about the history work fashion through this century.

The book does have some useful information when it starts talking about fitting clothes and finding quality. However, Josh Karlen's "The Indispensable Guide to Classic Men's Clothing" does a superior and more comprehensive job in this department.

The best part of this book is when it starts talking specifics about ensembles. Unfortunately the captions that go along with the pictures often lack details that are necessary for a clueless shopper. If I had a clue I probably wouldn't be looking in this book. What kinds of slacks are those? What color are they? What fabric are they made of? I know that I need to find my own what suits my own style and tastes but give me something to at least start with!

The downside is that this kind of information -- displays of men's clothing ensembles -- can be found in magazines like GQ for a fraction of the cost of this book. If you want to learn more about some of the "theory" of fashion look to another book. If you want more "concrete" examples then leaf through this book at the bookstore...and get a subscription to GQ.

4 out of 5 stars a visual treat, with a focus on quality clothes.......2001-09-03

This book boasts the catchy, elegant chic simple layout, with fully accessorized outfits laid out against a white background. The focus is on classic (and expensive), quality clothing (cashmere twin sets, Chanel flats, $300 Hermes scarves)-- but you could copy the ideas using less expensive basics. The idea is to pare down your wardrobe to the essentials, accessorizing the essentials to look polished & perfectly put together. The text is interesting, filled with quotes from movie stars and other famous people, with witty comments about the clothes, what one leans in business school, etc. However, you'll probably be drawn to the photographs and captions the first time through. Only about a third of the book is devoted to female attire, so if you're a woman, looking for advice about women's wardrobe concerns, you might be better served looking elsewhere.

If you love Blythe dolls -- or dolls in general -- you will certainly love this book. It's got really creative photos of Blythe dolls. Very imaginative and well-done book!

    5 out of 5 stars Great Style.......2007-05-07

This is an amazing book for someone in the fashion or design business. Not only the clothing is great but the styling is beautiful, witty and in perfect coordination with the spirit of the clothes.
    I highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars A must for creative collectors.......2007-03-08

This book shows photos of Blythe wearing creations from dozens of designers all over the world. It is full of inspiration for collectors who design and sew their own fashions for Blythe.

5 out of 5 stars Proudly displayed amongst my other art books.......2006-07-02

Gina Garan's "Blythe Style" sits on my shelf with, to mention a few, Matthew Barney's "Cremaster," many books on Joseph Cornell, "Just Above the Mantelpiece: Mass-Market Masterpieces" edited by Wayne Hemingway, Joseph Beuys' "The Multiples," and Patrick McMullan's "So Eighties."

Yes, I do collect the Blythe doll. I'd never in my life collected a doll before (LPs being my main addiction,) but I was drawn to this one, through my introduction via Gina Garan's photography. I think if I had seen a Blythe doll on the shelf, to be honest, I may not have seen what an amazing creature she is. For me, Blythe is not from the human realm; she belongs with the various nixies, dryads, elvish maidens and other elemental beings. I can say that I am one of the people for whom Blythe has become a creative muse, in many areas of artistic expression.

With the US publication of Gina Garan's "Blythe Style," Blythe as fashion icon only increases worldwide. Not only for Blythe fans, but those who are interested in fashion, fashion photography, and art. In these photos by Gina, Blythe models fashions by Milk, John Galliano, Pleats Please by Issey Miyake, Sonia Rykiel, and Vivienne Westwood. The settings, styling, and every aspect of Gina's photography are visually stunning as well as chic and often humorous. I look at this collection again and again.

5 out of 5 stars A "Must Have" for all Blythe lovers!!!.......2006-01-01

Gina captures the essence of Blythe through the eye of her camera!!! Who else could bring out such personality of dolls in pictures. Amazing photography of Blythe in beautiful designer outfits. Wonderful coffee table book to look at over and over!...bronxdoll :)

3 out of 5 stars Forgetting the Accessories.......2006-11-17

While this book features some interesting facts and pictures, I was very disappointed to find that the author almost completely disregards Jackie's use of accessories. I had hoped to learn about the handbags Jackie used, but despite brief references to her clutches, the only time he talked about them was to wrongly call the Gucci 'Jackie' bag - named after the woman herself - a Hermes tote. He also craftily avoids the subject of her shoes. Disappointing.

    5 out of 5 stars A LEGEND!.......2006-01-14

Having grown up in the 60's, and being a Fashion Major as well as a big fan of Jackie Kennedy I was excited to read this book, and pleasantly surprised with Mulvaney's perspective on Mrs. Kennedy's wardrobe. I own many books on Jackie Kennedy and was particularly impressed with the photos and information presented in this book on this fashion icon. I read this book from cover to cover in one day. The photos are stunning, and images of Mrs. Kennedy through her husband's White House years as well as post years are presented in black and white along with color. If you are a Jackie Kennedy admirer, or a Fashion History buff; this is a phenomenal book to add to your collection...well worth the hardback price anywhere!

4 out of 5 stars the clothes of camelot.......2005-05-26

I absolutely loved this book. Jackie just looks so beautiful. Her fashion sense is remarkable. And she looks so elegant and beautiful. She was simply the greatest.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent record of 60's style as seen thru the eyes of JO.......2003-11-09

I am not a die-hard Jackie O fan, but I love fashion in general. I have always thought of Jackie O as a fashion icon, and wanted to learn more about her. Until now, I have never seen a book that pictorally does her sense of style justice. However, in this book there are enough photographs both in black and white and in color to satisfy any fashion junkie or Jackie O fan. No matter what the situation, Jackie O was always appropriately and fashionably attired. This book does an excellent job of showing this by portraying her clothing choices through the years and in a variety of categories. This book does not go into great detail about Jackie O as a person or historical figure, I don't think it was written with those objectives in mind, but it should satisfy the fashion cravings of most people. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Chic at its best!.......2002-12-03

Who else, in all the other First Ladies, could have worn all those beautiful clothes with the chic and style Jackie had! Not many I guess. In this beautiful book, there are some never seen before pictures, that demonstrates what elegance in fashion is all about. It will take a long time before we can see that again in the White House. I treasure that book that makes me relive that unique period of refinement and class that once was in the White House, thanks to Jackie!

      Book Description

Snappy dressers of all skill levels can use the techniques in this book to incorporate ribbons, trim, beads, and other materials to create true wardrobe originals that are not mass-produced in any way. The chapters provide ideas for giving new life to old clothes or repurposing inexpensive, common items with just a few simple materials, tools, and techniques. Starting with a lesson in basic sewing and embroidery stitches, readers will learn how to take garments including jeans, a basic camisole, and a flared skirt and add their personal touch, whether it's by adding a line of rick-rack trim or ruffles or even reworking the entire garment. A templates section in the back of the book provides the motifs and designs used in the 30 projects, supplying even more inspiration for stylish crafters whose tastes run from vintage couture to more edgy or bohemian styles.

5 out of 5 stars Cute and corky. .......2007-06-19

This is a very cute book. I am not saying it's an incredible manuel for pregnancy with all the answers but it's brief and simple. Also, very comedic. I had myself a few good laughs. The Authors goal seems like she just wants to help pregnant women feel confident and happy in their own skin while teaching them the basics and maybe a little more about pregnancy. Just have fun with this one. It's not ment to be taken too seriously!

3 out of 5 stars Cute read for 1st time pregnancy.......2007-01-29

This was a fun book, but a someone said before, very insubstancial. Some ideas were cute, mostly about how to feel good about oneself and still be yourself despite your burgeoning belly. Cute, but better worth to be borrowed from a friend or quickly flipped through in a bookstore.

This was more like little tidbits from magazines that had been compiled into a book. If you are looking for something light-hearted yet still gives useful information, read Vicky Iovine's "The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy". Thank goodness I only got this as a gift because it is not worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars BEST QUICK IMPORTANT INFO ON MATERNITY OUT THERE!.......2005-09-14

I LOVE THIS BOOK! As a busy woman, I dont have time to read super looooong books on maternity. THIS BOOK WAS A GODSEND because its short and to the point and sooo smart! This is like Vickie Leveine's book only shorter and sexier and super cool! A GREAT GIFT BOOK TOO!! Thank you to the author! Thank you karen!
