Book Description
Courageous Souls explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, prior to birth for purposes of spiritual growth. The book contains ten true stories of people who planned physical illness, having handicapped children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, and severe accidents. Because very different life challenges are often planned for similar reasons, readers who have not faced these specific challenges will nevertheless see themselves - and their motivations as a soul - in these stories. As readers come to realize that they themselves planned their lives, suffering that once seemed purposeless becomes imbued with deep meaning. Wisdom may be acquired in a more conscious manner; feelings of anger, guilt, blame, and victimization are replaced by acceptance, forgiveness, peace, and gratitude.

not credible.......2007-09-30
I got to p. 300 and started reading another book. I found this book painstakingly slow to read, the information provided by the mediums: farfetched, and the conclusions drawn by the author, hard to swallow. Often, when mediums are tired, their accuracy rate diminishes. I never heard of any of the mediums used in this book. Robert Schwartz makes everything so complicated when the subject matter is really quite easy to understand. The book just doesn't flow easily and it's not a page turner in my opinion. I'm a believer, but this book really is a waste of time and money. Read Journey of the Soul by Michael Newton, PhD. Instead of using mediums, he enters the superconsciousness of his clients and elicits information from them directly about their experiences on The Other Side.
An Empowering Way to Reframe Painful Challenges in Our Lives.......2007-09-17
It has been said that asking oneself the question, "Who was I before I was born?" can teach us the most about our true spiritual identity -- yet few of us have been so enlightened as to have heard the full reply. COURAGEOUS SOULS takes this starting point one step further by exploring just how we may have crafted our entire life around all of our life circumstances -- both the high and the low points.
What sets Robert Schwartz's book apart from other books about spirituality, reincarnation and the afterlife is his organized use of intuitive readings as companion pieces to accompany the various life stories he includes. These intuitive sessions provide a deep sense of interconnectedness and unconditional love shared in our lifetimes which we sometimes lose sight of, as well as insights into how we continue learning life lessons from one life to the next. The stories include descriptions of people who have experienced tremendous suffering who are greatly inspired and relieved to see an underlying sense of purpose and meaning to all they have gone through.
COURAGEOUS SOULS is an exceptional book for anyone interested in exploring the true nature of their spiritual identity, who is willing to keep an open mind regarding the value of some of the most painful challenges we humans face in our lives on Earth; this is highly recommended reading for anyone seeking to reframe and find deeper meaning from the painful challenges, setbacks or hardships in their lives.
Some of life's challenges explained........2007-09-06
.
Before I even finished reading this book, I ordered more and had them sent to my friends. This book is amazing.
Told through many soul journies, Robert Schwartz brought in the talents of true mediums who were able to discover decisions that these people made before they were born - again. He did not use just one medium, but several, and they are listed in the back of the book. The individuals who shared their stories are also listed with email addresses -- and if they are able and have the time they will answer your questions.
This book came to me at a time I really needed to be reminded of my own experiences through many lives and the time between our next life. The stories are beautiful because they are able to explain why certain tragedies happen to a person.
I highly recommend this book, especially to those with open and searching minds.
Why Human Challenges Exist!.......2007-08-28
Courageous Souls is highly recommended to anyone trying to understand the suffering, tragedy or loss that has caused them to question life, death and/or God. And who among us is not inflicted by such challenges and questions in our lifetime? In my eight years researching life after death, spirituality and life purpose, I have discovered no better explanation of why human challenges exist than what is so eloquently written in Robert Schwartz's book.

Book Review.......2007-08-24
"Courageous Souls: Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before Birth?" by Robert Schwartz is probably one of the most important books of our time, if not the most important. Here Robert explores the spiritual mysteries of why life paths sometimes seem difficult, challenging and perhaps even impossible. He explores and answers that deeply troubling and ever-present question of, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" Through the service of mediums, clairvoyants, trance channels, i.e., those we have come to term in general, as "psychics," who can connect with guides, angels, and the higher selves of those who have courageously stepped forward to be included in this fascinating subject matter, we discover many surprising truths. These truths can then, in turn, be applied to our own lives and experiences. This book has the potential to be life-altering for so many and comes forth at a time when everyone questions the real meaning of their existence here. The information contained in this book is beyond valuable. In addition, the author's innate compassion and his thorough approach of getting to the heart of the answers of the great mysteries of life, shines thorough like a guiding beacon for all. This is a must read for any who consider themselves on the spiritual path and also to those who are still searching for the path. - Dyan Garris - Author, Psychic, New Age Recording Artist.
Book Description
For the past twenty-five years an extraordinary art movement has been underway in the remote countryside of northern Mexico, a renaissance of ceramic art in the tiny village of Mata Ortiz. As unlikely as it may seem, this phenomenon was sparked by the genius of a village woodcutter of rare artistic talent and equally rare determination, Juan Quezada.
Over the years, by trial and error, Juan Quezada gradually recreated the technology of the ancient pre-Columbian masterpieces, until modern masterpieces also emerged from his own hands. Now this reawakening of the ancient art is taking many forms in the hands of some three hundred villagers.
Noted Arizona author Susan Lowell has written a fascinating traveler's introduction to the region, the town, Juan Quezada, and many other village artists. Lowell's essay is followed by a biographical survey of a cross-section of 100 potters along with color photographs of their work and portraits of the potters. Included is a guide for travelers planning to visit the village, an index of Mata Ortiz potters, a schedule of exhibitions in the U. S. and Mexico of Mata Ortiz pottery featured in this book, a glossary, and a bibliography.

Treasure on Treasures.......2007-01-10
"The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz" is a treasure trove of information about the treasures that are the Mata Ortiz people and pottery. It is well laid-out, well written, and well...wonderful!! The only thing that would make my copy better are autographs by Juan Quezada himself and every other potter in the book.
Unfortunately for whatever reason, Juan's son Alvaro is not featured in the book. He is indeed an exceptional artist.
I was able to meet Alvaro and Juan Quezada in Nov 2006 in their family gallery in Mata Ortiz and found them and their entire family to be humble friendly and genuinely thrilled that people love their wonderful creations.
If you have not had the opportunity to visit Mata Ortiz, "The Many Faces of Mata Ortiz" will inspire you to go. If you have, it will make you pine for it and it's people.
Want to know more about Mata Ortiz and its potters?.......2005-09-24
This is a great book for all that are curious about Mata Ortiz pottery and the people who make it. If you want to start collecting, it's a great book to have for a reference source. All artists mentioned in this book are of high caliber, as good, some even better than the Native American potters of the Southwest. At this time, these wares are also less expensive and affordable to most people. Hopefully they will be a good investment for the future.

Mata Ortiz Pottery.......2005-07-19
A wonderful collection of photographs combined with dialoge about this remote village in Mexico. It describes the journey to get there, then details the lives of the talented people who live there. The photogtaphy is outstanding. A must for any person collecting or thinking of collecting pottery from this village.
The Next Best Thing To Owning A Pot.......2003-07-18
Almost 40 years ago Juan Quesada from the village of Mata Ortiz in Chihuahua singlehandedly revived Casa Grande style pottery. This book is a beautifully illustrated account of his success, along with the other artists of the village who learned from him. Becoming familiar with these artists should lay to rest the notion held by many Americans that Mexican imports are second class. These paper-thin pots are as beautiful as any you will ever see. This book has color photographs of many of the potters from Mata Ortiz as well as pictures of their pots. There is information on how the pots are made-- they are all built by hand from native materials, painted with brushes made from the artists' children's hair and fired over cow dung.
The book has a lot of interesting details-- for instance, when the Pope visited Mexico a few years ago, he was given three of these magnificent pots. Another fascinating tidbit is that one of every seven citizens of this village makes these pots. They have gone from doing manual labor to creating works of art.
Owning this book is the next best thing to owning a Mata Ortiz pot.
The Many Faces Of Mata Ortiz.......2000-09-08
This is the best pottery book I have ever found! It is layed out in an informative, and beautiful manner. Not only is the pottery exquisite, but the photographs represent the pieces at their best. It is easy to understand, and gets one passionate about an art movement, that we can actually be a part of, in this twenty-first century. It is highly unsual to be living during a time when a new art movement is going on, and still striving for it's pinnacle. We see this with the unequalled workmanship of the Matiz Ortiz people in their Casas Grandes/Matiz Ortiz pottery. I really enjoyed getting to know each potter by name and photo, coupled with seeing their work, and feeling a part of their extended family. Juan Quesada, the founder of this artistic movement, is a highly spiritual individual, generous and gifted beyond belief. He is the reason that this wonderful pottery is being shown to the world. I am an artist that does pottery, and a retired teacher. I would recommend this book to all art teachers, and anyone who appreciates great art.
Book Description
The THIEME Atlas of Anatomy is a revolution in the presentation of human anatomy. It combines topographical views of different body regions, in stunning detail and unprecedented clarity, with the more classical portrayals of isolated systems, in which the bony structure, vasculature, muscles, and nerves are assembled for the reader in a step-by-step logical sequence. Schematics highlight specific structures and depict their coordination in functional units. Throughout the book we have included hundreds of clinical correlations to provide an integrated presentation of structure, function, and malfunction that will serve the needs of students and practitioners alike.

The THIEME Atlas of Anatomy series is amazing!.......2007-07-26
By far, this is the best atlas series available and as a medical student, I would recommend the three atlases to anyone who studies in the field of anatomy. Trust me, this is THE book you keep for life!
Better than Netter! (yes, really, it is!).......2007-05-28
At our school we have an anatomist that is in his 70's and is credited for editing and correcting Netter's! He is amazing and he told us about this series. It is a three book series covering all of anatomy, but in the future they will condense this into a single book "Netter" style review. The images and illustration are unbelievable, with new and unique views that really reveal the relationships between structures. In addition, there is more teaching text and clinical imagery included that really brings concepts together. This three book series is THE reference to have on your shelf for the rest of your professional career. The musculoskeletal version would also be great for artists as well as medical students!
AMAZING - love it.......2007-04-05
this is an amazing text book and has already been so benificial. diagrams are so clear and makes Netter's diagrams look average.
i cant ssay anything bad about it other than i want to go and buy the neuro/cranium version too, just because it is so good
A++++++
I have learned so much from this book!.......2007-03-22
I asked my physical therapist "what is this bone that I feel here ..." and he showed me the Thieme Atlas of Anatomy.
Wow -- this book has helped me understand and visualize my body. I've looked at a lot of books on ballet and dance, to understand my movement, to identify my aches, and to improve my stretching. This book is by far the best I've seen. I have spent hours studying it to understand the relationships between bone and muscle.
I gave a copy to my dance coach as a gift, and she was thrilled. She has many anatomy books; some of them cost well over a hundred dollars. This is now the best in her collection, too.
You will not be disappointed if you buy this book.
Incredible.......2006-08-27
I am a second year medical student and had the good fortune of using this book last year. In medicine, it is imperative to understand fascial layers and the relationships between different anatomical structures, this book provides that beautifully. This past week, I glanced through a pre-shipment of the neck and internal organ version and to my surprise it was even better than the General Anatomy version! Even though I am finished with Anatomy, I will be buying the new book for my reference.
Move over Netter and Gray's Thieme is the new standard.

Histology: too much text.......2007-09-16
I agree with the first and second review. I use this book as a reference for hard-to-understand concepts. As a first year med student, however, I never really have time to refer to it because it is too content-dense. I would prefer a book with more pictures; perhaps just a picture section with pointers on important points.
Excellent.......2007-07-27
This is an amazing book, excellent book, It's easy to read, good graphics, It's everything you need for completely understand of Histology
Good - For a reference Title.......2006-11-06
This book is good in its essentials. But for a course, I woulde suggest you go for a simple book with more illustrations. Its so crammed up with information, you wont be able to recognize which is important which is not. Unfortunately the authors have produced a detailed encyclopedia of histological processes in Molecular Biology, that this one cease to exist as a simple textbook for a course in the medical school. The type set is very hard to follow, you would stray away in minutes.
I give four star credit for this book since I value its contents as a reference guide for histology and the immense amout of work the editors have put on this marvellous piece.

Great histology book!.......2006-11-06
I recommend this book both to medical students who are studying histology for the first time and to doctors. I, as a pathology resident, found this book very helpful for studying the normal structure of organs because of its great pictures (including special stains and electron microscopy) and its easy-to-understand yet detailed text. Also the clinical, physiological and cell biological correlations (presented as text boxes throughout the book) help you a lot in getting a more clear picture about the presented organ or tissue.
Makes a difficult topic very approachable.......2006-09-15
This is a very well produced book wilth many illustrations which make histology, a topic I've taught but never mastered, make more sense. While the book is very approachable, it is still very much in-depth and if you are looking for a more introductory text, you may want to consider getting an atlas to begin. However, medical and graduate students would do very well with this text since it bridges the molecular mechanisms active in cells to the microscopic structure of tissues and organs. It also brings the microscopic structure and function into view regarding the gross anatomical perspective as well, giving a top-to-bottom appraisal of histology. This would have been a five-star rating if only the pages were not so whispy that my highlighter bled through to the other side of the page repeatedly. Students, buy this book with confidence, but underline rather than highlight!
very good.......2006-08-30
This is the best histology book I have seen. Good for molecular biology researchers as well-better then many standard textbooks. Very good discussions of development of cell types as well as structural histology.
I really like histology and this book.......2006-06-22
The photos are very good in this book. If you are taking histology I do recommend this one. This is a complete text. Each subject area is expertly done (example) muscle tissue, bone, skin etc.
If you want also a great studying tool to help you prepare for your exams, I recommend HISTOLOGY STUDY GUIDE: KEY REVIEW QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS author Patrick Leonardi. This helped me!!!
excellent.......2006-05-09
A very detailed book with fantastic photographs and diagrams throughout. An excellent reference book for anyone studying histology.

Customer Reviews:
A great book.......2005-12-14
This book was suggested to me by my University as part of the Histology curriculum of the General Med. program. It took me quite a while to understand that this is probably the best histology book there is, and I have 3 other books to prove it..
Some may find it diffucult to digest at the beginning, the middle and the end, like I had, but now I understand that Histology as a subject is hard and nothing more.
For a medical student there are other books out there, may be more consice and with more graphics, but if you want to excell in your Histo class, this is the book. Ross doesnt neglect anything! I found the illustrations sufficient and accompanied by short summaries of what was already mentioned and not mentioned in the text. They were exellent as a review of the material.
For those who find the graphics insufficient I would suggest buying an Atlas.
Good Text, Needs more diagrams.......2004-06-27
This is a good histology text to read and understand. It has not only structural descriptions, but has related physiology and this makes the book interesting to read. With mastering histology in the first year of the medical school, pathology would be easy to learn in the future. This book makes histology a more interesting subject.
Advantages:
1.Lucid style in writing
2.Sentence type headings makes the essence of the following text very clear.
3.Most of the details that you need in the histology course could be found in this single volume.
4.Atlas is separately included in the end of every chapter other than the regular diagrams between the texts.
Disadvantages:
1.Lack of line diagrams- without a good number of line diagrams it would be difficult to grasp the material for a normal student like me.
2.No clear chapter outline in the beginning of each chapter. The Wheater's histology has an edge over this in this aspect.
good.......2004-03-06
I really felt that this text could have given a little more. You will need to buy an atlas to supplement the text, but I do like the explanations given with the pictures.
Excellent book for my medical histology class.......2003-08-29
I found this book very helpful and packed with good info on histology. This book is quite thorough and is essential for any medical student taking a class in histology. The pictures are quite helpful because it was easier to identify simple epithelia verses squamous epithelia as one example. If you want a great study guide for the type of questions teachers ask get the following: Histology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers (ISBN; 0971999686)
The last book helped me to focus on the type of questions asked on my exams. I was recommended this book from a few friends who have already taken the class. They said it helped them get good grades. I guess they were right. With the help of these two books I did wonderfully.
Very good.......2003-01-27
I liked the book very much for it has Histology with some Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology included. Of course these text takes space from the book and reduces the amount of slides but each slide is given similar information and not just identification. Time to time comparative information. I found this book very useful when compared to simple Histology Atlases. You may need another Histology Atlas for more pictures if you are interested but this book is very simple and to the point all encompassing

Review of Chapter 17 on Acoustic Immittance Measurements.......2001-05-12
In this chapter on multifrequency tympanometry Robert Margolis and Lisa Hunter, Otolaryngology Department, University of Minnesota, USA present (*) a summary of the linear theory used to interpret the immittance measurements, (*) examples of actual measurement as well as (*) the steps in the practical procedure and (*) the reliability of this method in diagnosing middle ear diseases.
It is the clearest and most detailed presentation of tympanometry I have been able to find (you can find a detailed primer on the physics of tympanometry -based on Margolis's and Hunter's chapter- by searching with Google for tympanometry + lymenet).

Best on the market.......2007-04-02
This series from Thieme (this is the third book) so far surpasses every other illustrated anatomy, comparisons are almost pointless. Get all three, learn them, pass your exams.
