Suzanne Lussier, an expert on French '20s and '30s fashion, is a curator in the Department of Textiles and Dress at the Victoria and Albert Museum. She lives in London.
Book Description
From flapper dresses to feathers, fashion exploded during the Roaring '20s, when clothes became a symbol of a more liberated lifestyle and epitomized the glamour and youthful excitement of the Jazz Age. Hemlines and waistlines slowly crept toward each other as the motto for style--and life--became "Anything Goes!" In ART DECO FASHION the world of Hollywood and F. Scott Fitzgerald comes to life in images of beaded evening dresses for dancing the Charleston; sporty outfits for golf, tennis, and swimming; and clothes designed for traveling in luxury liners, trains, or in streamlined cars. Accented with posters, photographs, and images from fashion magazines of the era, this sumptuous volume presents a thorough and stunning review of Deco fashion.

Art Deco Fashion.......2007-08-03
This book would have been better titled Art Deco Fashion of the 1920s. If you are interested in the entire span of art deco fashion that includes the 1930s, this isn't the book for you. Although the inside jacket says it was written to coincide with a major exhibition Art Deco 1910-1939, the 30s are all but forgotten.
If you are looking fr a book that covers fashion of the entire period, look elsewhere.
Art Deco Fashion.......2006-11-04
Great coffee table book or as a reference for 1920's fashion. Includes sketches and actual photos from the time-period. I used it as inspiration for decorations for a 1920's theme wedding.
The Bee's Knees!!!.......2006-09-05
Fabulous, simply fabulous!!!
If you have any interest in fashion history, the roaring '20s, or beauty, itself, then this glorious little tome is for you.
Compact and precise, filled with incredible images, you will drink it in and look to it again and again.
A treasure!
Amazing!!! Well put together.......2003-06-11
So many books out there on the subject of historical clothing are over priced and has pictures printed in black and white, with text making up the bulk of the book.
So I was suprised when this book came from Amazon... you get a hardback full colour well writen book with beautiful pictures, art and information.
Thankfully, the V&A (Victoria and Albert Museum, UK) played a large role in the book. They are the foremost authority on historical clothing, of any period.
Not only does it cover clothing, it goes on to talk and illustrate deco hair tips, sporting fashions, 20's designers from A-Z, fashion icons and much more.
A beautiful book worth every penny.

Great for tattoos.......2005-02-10
I LOVE this book, and have turned many of these designs into tattoos. Never seen anything like it on any other person, either.

Chosen from the period 1924 to 1931, this clothing was revolutionary and has been the epitome of haute couture designers ever since. The most famous clothing designers of the time are represented abundantly, including Charles Worth, Jean Patou, Paul Poiret, Lucien Lelong, Joseph Paquin and many others. The hand printed illustrations are each little masterpieces, often admired and collected themselves for their fine details and originality.

Disappointing book on Deco Fashion and prints.......2007-06-06
I bought this book in the hope that it would have some good illustrations and information about Art Deco Pochoir fashion prints. However, the book seems to be an English translation of a period French fashion book illustrated with Deco fashion illustrations and period descriptions of what people should be wearing.
If you want to get a "feel" for the fashion descriptions of the period then this book is for you. If you want to know more about the Pochoir printing process, the introduction has a very good description, but the contents of the book itself adds no new information. It's a pretty to look at book, but shows neither the best of the fashions of the period nor provides any real useful information for people interested in either costume or graphic arts.
Book Description
Slinky beauties model an immense variety of clinging gowns and dresses, trim suits and coats, beachwear, capes, and other outfits. Carefully reproduced from rare issues of the famed French periodical La Vie Parisienne, the illustrations lend themselves perfectly to graphic projects calling for sophistication and feminine charm. 339 black-and-white illustrations.
Book Description

Art Deco Fashions.......2006-04-12
This is by far the best of the best drawn by Tom. Every page was a gasp from my mouth, as each gown appeared, and I love this book for the color and designs of its time! If you love the designers of the Old World, Paquin, Worth, Channel, Schiparelli, Poiret, Lanvin etc., they are all here to enjoy and admire. This was for sure one of my all-time favorite Tom Tierney paper doll books, and I have been collecting his work for almost 15 years!

Book Description
By the second half of the 1920s, old-fashioned Victorian morals had gone the way of starched collars and cruel corsets and a "no holds barred" attitude reigned in their place. "The Party of the Century" had begun in earnest and fashions responded by climbing to the knees! Using a combination of vintage images, professional photographs of existing garments, and period artists' illustrations, this comprehensive book presents a dazzling look at fashions from 1925 through 1929. Fashions for men, women, and children are featured, including evening wear, day wear, coats and jackets, lounge and resort wear, sports fashions, and lingerie. Whenever possible, styles are shown with their appropriate accessories, such as hats, shoes, purses, fans, parasols, and more. Fascinating timelines place the fashions in their proper setting, describing each year's film, music, literary, and couture trends. Among the book's many highlights are rare French pochoir fashion plates and photos of an original haute couture Chanel evening gown. This in-depth look at one of our most exciting decades will appeal to fashion enthusiasts and history buffs alike. A companion volume covers the years 1920 to 1924.

Fabulous, Simply Fabulous!.......2006-07-11
Roaring '20's Fashions by Susan Langley is just wonderful. She has gone the extra mile by showing the advertisement or sketch and then showing an actual item that is as close to if not identical to the ad. I always looked at the magazine ads and wondered what the actual garment or accessory really looked like. Now I know. I will gleefully await her next book! The photographs are done well (good angles and lighting)and her commentary is lively. I would recommend to one and all! And I have.
Fantastic Fashions!.......2006-04-05
Another wonderful walk through fashion history. "Deco" is a very worthy sucessor to Sue Langley's "Jazz", continuing through the second half of the twenties. Pictures were wonderful, and the text bubbled with delicious historical commentary. This book was even more special as I attended a show and signing in Manhattan where I could see the clothes closeup and hear all kinds of tidbits of the fashion trade. Wonderful - I look forward to whatever Sue Langley's next book!
Photos Are Better than the Text.......2006-03-24
I agree with the comments of a reviewer of the author's companion book, "Roaring '20s Fashions: Jazz." Buy this book for the photos, which are excellent. Unfortunately, the text has been poorly edited, with an overabundance of exclamation marks and capital letters rendering the content and captions somewhat amateurish and even silly at times. The use of period photos and fashion illustrations, in addition to the great photos of the vintage clothing, make this book a worthy purchase.
The Roaring '20s Fashions Deco is a Delightful Book.......2006-01-17
The Roaring '20s Fashions Deco is a delightful book. A step into the world of Fitzgerald. Well written & researched and great photography
A Roaring (20s) Good Book!.......2006-01-14
I loved Ms. Langley's vintage hat book so well I was amost afraid to be disappointed by her new books on the Roaring 20s - I shouldn't have been. She truly surpassed herself with books that transcend the category of collecter's books. Yes, this book is organized and comprehensive. The clothes are fabulous and the photos of them due them justice. The fashion plates and advertisements are beautiful and greatly entertaining enhancements placing the clothing in context of the times. I must admit my favorite part of the book is the vintage photographs which along with the loving and witty narrative breathe a life and tenderness into this book that raises it far above a collector's guide.

Berlin chic of the 1930's.......2004-09-22
Probably the dawn of art deco fashion jewelry was the 16-28 May 1927 machine-age exposition in New York. This exposition showed how modern technology could be fused with the arts, bringing German bauhaus design to America's attention.
The prior year, 1926, saw the release of the silent film "Metropolis," Fritz Lang's anxious vision of a world demanding conformity in which "the masses" are controlled by machines and their owners. This film's art direction makes use of many art deco design elements which find their way into mainstream costume jewelry design. Geometric shapes and simplicity dominate costume jewelry in which new, inexpensive materials, such as bakelite and corolite could be incorporated, adding translucent and opaque color.
Fashion jewelry components in the 1930's were manufactured primarily in Bohemia so, when Jewish owners lost their factories in 1938, art deco costume jewelry also vanished from the fashion scene. This book gathers -- and preserves in photographs -- much of art deco jewelry's beauty within its pages.
Book Description
In the 1920s, not only were architecture and art influenced by Art Deco, fashion was, too. Designers were inspired by the stage sets of the Ballet Russes, fabric designs and costumes from Leon Bakst and creations by the Wiener Werkstätte, just to name a few. Women's increased participation in sports, along with the introduction of energetic dance styles required a different type of dress, and technical advances resulted in the availability of new fabrics. These factors played a role in a true fashion revolution: fashion designers created new silhouettes and innovative details, and used new colours and luxurious fabrics. At least as important was the use of typical Art Deco patterns for textile decoration. ART DECO FASHION DESIGN contains more than a 1,000 beautiful fashion plates, including designs from famous Art Deco designers such as Paul Poiret, Charles Worth and Jean Patou. The book comes with a free CD containing wonderful Art Deco patterns that have been meticulously restored from period originals. In the 1920s, not only were architecture and art influenced by Art Deco, fashion was, too.
