Book Description
By the #1 New York Times bestselling author Kevin Trudeau comes the last diet you will ever need. Imagine, you will lose at least 30 pounds in 30 days...with no hunger...no exercise...and no surgery!
An absolute cure for obesity was discovered almost fifty years ago by a British medical doctor. Tens of thousands of people used this simple, inexpensive, safe medical treatment and achieved miraculous, fast, and permanent weight loss. Stubborn area fat deposits melted away. Body reshaping of the hips, thighs, buttocks, and waist was so dramatic it appeared as if the patients received liposuction! Amazingly, this medical breakthrough has been debunked, discredited, and suppressed by the American Medical Association, the Food and Drug Administration, and other medical establishments throughout the world. Now, for the first time in fifty years, this revolutionary breakthrough discovery, which permanently cures the condition of obesity, is being released to the public.
The main problems that overweight people deal with are massive, intense, constant physical hunger; food cravings and uncontrollable urges to eat when not hungry; low metabolism; and an abnormally high amount of fat stored in stubborn secure problem areas such as the hips, thighs, buttocks, and waist. This "weight loss cure protocol" has been proven to be virtually 100% successful in correcting these conditions, thus curing the individual of obesity for life! Read the fascinating true story of how this discovery was made and, more importantly, how this miracle weight loss breakthrough has been hidden from the public so that drug companies can make billions of dollars selling their expensive drug treatments and surgical procedures for obesity. You'll be amazed to read how the food manufacturers actually have a financial incentive to make you fat! This is the book that answers all the questions about why people today are continually getting fatter and fatter. The good news is this book gives you the cure that can solve your overweight condition once and for all.

A BOGUS PLAN.......2007-10-03
This book is misrepresented as an easy to do diet program. You need a Doctor to prescribe and monitor your results. It's a colon cleansing program with medications and substances I think are very unhealthy. I saw Ken Trudeau on TV and believed this to be an easy to follow plan. Read several chapters and realized it was not easy nor healthy. Very unhappy with the book.
Amazon.com is the best site ever !!.......2007-10-03
I have have nothing but good things to say about amazon; very prompt and fast delivery, and always in excellent condition. I would suggest anyone to shop here. Thank you so much for your fast and friendly service.

though everyone is entitled to their opinion...........2007-10-03
I, like many many people in this country, have been struggling with my weight for YEARS! Having done every other diet from Atkins to South Beach taken every supplement from Hoodia to the 'fat patch' waiting for one of them, ANY of them to work. Yes, they work for as long as you take them and when you stop, you gain the weight back. You know this if you've done it. I'm sick and tired of everyone hacking away at Kevin Trudeau. He is yet another person with another opinion on weight loss...only he happens to have uncovered something here. So far, two people I know have done the program. The 1st lost 68 lbs in 45 days, the 2nd 20lbs in 45 days and the only reason the 2nd person lost less is that was all they had to lose. Plus, they've kept it off without any problems since! To be fair, yes the book is a bit repetitive and could've been condensed. And yes, the actual supplements/teas required are somewhat expensive. However, I like many before me have spent into the multiple thousands trying to get rid of the weight and finally be healthy.
So, now I myself am doing this 'protocol' and I will admit it is not for the whiny. "Oh it's too hard". "Oh,there are too many requirements." "Oh, you have to do injections." First, this diet IS easy, meaning it is not difficult to follow. Like any diet it takes complete commitment. Yes, for 45 days you will be required to follow a fairly stringent plan. Second, the endless list of requirements. These are there to help you live better on the whole. Most of these are 'highly suggested' but not 'required'. Also, a third to half of them are incredibly simple to incorporate into everyday life. Third, you DO NOT have to take injections. The people I know who have completed this and I, take capsules, ORAL supplements of hCg that are available online. Say what you want about Kevin Trudeau, but I think it's about time more people question what our government is allowing and endorsing when it comes to weight loss and overall body health across the board in our country.
weight loss.......2007-10-03
some of the advice was helpful but not all of the suggestions help me.
Everyone's body is different. some things he suggested worked some didn't. I thought the book was to lengthy. It repeated the same things over and over again.....You really needed about 20-30 pages to get the point across..
The weight lost cure.......2007-10-02
The book wasn't as good as I thought, it is the same text but different subject as from his other books. It wasn't much help I haven't got the products in my area that he suggest and over the internet, the web site he suggest to order from they are too expensive. I have 3 books of his and this last book will be my last.
Book Description
Lots of people enjoy making or buying treats for their pets, but wouldn't it be wonderful to cook a real meal for the four-legged member of the household? Quirky yet practical, these cookbooks provide recipes that are nutritionally balanced and veterinarian-approved. They even include sections on "tandem" recipes - recipes for humans that, with slight modifications, can also be served to pets.
REAL FOOD FOR DOGS is written by Arden Moore, the first non-veterinarian to write the pet column for Prevention magazine.

Great recipes.......2007-10-01
Good alternative meals for dogs, with ingredients that you already probably have in the fridge. Also has great treat ideas that I didn't have in another treat cookbook.
Fun book.......2007-09-26
This book has great dog treat ideas and a fun format. The recipes are unusual and very simple. I was disappointed that there weren't more recipes for everyday dog food, though. This book is more for special-occasion food.
Good beginner's book. Not for the long haul.......2007-09-18
I picked this up on a whim just after I adopted my dog. I've been feeding my cats a homemade diet using Feline Future for years now. This is a very cute book. A very fun book. But it is NOT a very healthy book. It advocates a lot of highly processed ingredients. Refined white rice and refined white bread. Corn meal. These are not good for your dog.
It says nothing about whole, fresh, organic ingredients. Vitamins. Nutrients.
If you're looking to get started, this book is a good one for beginners. Although some of the recipes are far too ingredient heavy.
NOT WHAT MY VET RECOMMENDS.......2007-07-13
I bought this book because I was scared to death to buy any more dog food from the stores after the poisoned stuff showed up from CHINA...which is a bad place to get ANY food from.
I showed it to my vet. He confirmed what I already felt after reading it...it is NOT a good book to feed your dog from on a regular basis. It is ok for an occasional cooked meal; but not for regular consumption. The recipes do not contain wholesome ingredients, and do contain salt and other things not good, and are too fattening. The treat section is good. I made some treats from the book and my dogs loved them. I made one of the meal recipes and only one of my dogs spit it on the floor...but she spits EVERYTHING on the floor if it isn't to her liking, and being a Shih-Tzu, NOTHING is to her liking, lol.
Anyway, it is an OK book for an occasional cooked meal treat or for making your own treats, but not healthy to give your dog on a regular basis....according to a Vet with degrees lining his walls.
A GREAT starter book for a beginning canine cook..........2007-07-09
I bought about four dog food cookbooks at once, after the big dog food scandal, and this was the simplest and the most clearly understood. It made cooking for the dog fun, which is important, since you will be doing this a LOT! I've learned about all the various things they can and cannot eat from the internet, and I've labored through the charts and graphs in other books, but when the food bowl is empty and I'm getting the *big stare*, this book is where I run to for inspiration. Check in the freezer section of your meat department for ground turkey. Also, throwing a pound or two of hamburger in the slow cooker with a bag of frozen vegetables and some brown rice is a definite time saver, plus much safer than some nasty ground who-know's-what from an unregulated factory. I've been getting complaints that the dog food smells better than the people food. Cooking for your pets will be one of those life-time long learning experiences, but this is a great place to start.
P.S. My dog is healthier now, and knows I love him, as well...
Book Description
The bestselling author of The Botany of Desire explores the ecology of eating to unveil why we consume what we consume in the twenty-first century
"What should we have for dinner?" To one degree or another this simple question assails any creature faced with a wide choice of things to eat. Anthropologists call it the omnivore's dilemma. Choosing from among the countless potential foods nature offers, humans have had to learn what is safe, and what isn't-which mushrooms should be avoided, for example, and which berries we can enjoy. Today, as America confronts what can only be described as a national eating disorder, the omnivore's dilemma has returned with an atavistic vengeance. The cornucopia of the modern American supermarket and fast-food outlet has thrown us back on a bewildering landscape where we once again have to worry about which of those tasty-looking morsels might kill us. At the same time we're realizing that our food choices also have profound implications for the health of our environment. The Omnivore's Dilemma is bestselling author Michael Pollan's brilliant and eye-opening exploration of these little-known but vitally important dimensions of eating in America.
Pollan has divided The Omnivore's Dilemma into three parts, one for each of the food chains that sustain us: industrialized food, alternative or "organic" food, and food people obtain by dint of their own hunting, gathering, or gardening. Pollan follows each food chain literally from the ground up to the table, emphasizing our dynamic coevolutionary relationship with the species we depend on. He concludes each section by sitting down to a meal--at McDonald's, at home with his family sharing a dinner from Whole Foods, and in a revolutionary "beyond organic" farm in Virginia. For each meal he traces the provenance of everything consumed, revealing the hidden components we unwittingly ingest and explaining how our taste for particular foods reflects our environmental and biological inheritance.
We are indeed what we eat-and what we eat remakes the world. A society of voracious and increasingly confused omnivores, we are just beginning to recognize the profound consequences of the simplest everyday food choices, both for ourselves and for the natural world. The Omnivore's Dilemma is a long-overdue book and one that will become known for bringing a completely fresh perspective to a question as ordinary and yet momentous as What shall we have for dinner?

Corn!.......2007-09-29
I have never read the word "corn" so many times in my life! But corn is, in fact, a rather large part of our lives and we did not realize it. This is a very good book and is quite informative. Thank you.
Brilliant.......2007-09-29
This is one of the first thoughtful critiques of the culture of `big' Organic to appear. It was a decade in coming. Since the advent of stores such as Whole Foods, the ideology of `Organic' has come to revolutionize the way Americans eat. Organic is both an ideology, an ideal and a culture. This book seeks to examine four meals and where they came from. It looks a typical big agriculture diet, that uses pesticides and might be sold at McDonalds or Wallmart. It examines a meal purchased as Whole Foods. It also examines the ancient way of hunting food to survive and the development of agriculture. But its most insightful chapter is the examination of the origins of food purchased in the `big Organic' superstores, such as Whole Foods.
The author tracks the food back to its origins. From a supermarket label that claims the chickens are free range to the house where the chickens are kept in a massive barracks, barely able to move because there are so many. This book shows how the Organic industry is mostly a scam. Organic has outgrown its roots and because the Dept. of Agriculture and the government has not issues rules regarding what is `Organic' it was only a matter of time before most things labeled `organic' were far from it. The ideal of the `family farm' may be on the label of much `organic' food but it mostly comes from factories. A brilliant analysis of what happens when ideals meat the marketplace.

a college assignment.......2007-09-28
I bought The Omnivore's Dilemma for a college English course. I'm not sure what I expected, but the result was intriguing. The book offers a detailed look into what exactly we are eating, and I really enjoyed it.
This is a book that I am likely to share with others because it relates to just about everyone and makes you think about the choices our society has made.
Just when you thought it was safe to eat..........2007-09-27
This book is very enlightening and informative. Over the last several months I have been reading lots of books about health and nutrition. This book stands apart from other, not for the quantity of scientific data that it presents, but for the unique perspective it offers to readers. I've always wondered where the myriad ingredients on industrial foods comes from. This book gives you a glimpse of their origins and evolution. This is one of the only books I've ever read that makes you aware that eating can be a moral and political act. It certainly changes the way I think about food. I would have to say that I am much better informed about the consequences of my eating decisions because of this book. Anyone with an inquisitive mind should find some or all of this book to be very valuable.
entertaining vital info.......2007-09-26
I couldn't put this book down. Very entertaining and very enlightening. If you are interested in your health and the health of the planet, you will gain a lot from this book.
Book Description
Parents will do almost anything to get their kids to eat healthier, but unfortunately, they've found that begging, pleading, threatening, and bribing don't work. With their patience wearing thin, parents will "give in" for the sake of family peace, and reach for "kiddie" favorites--often nutritionally inferior choices such as fried fish sticks, mac n' cheese, Pop-sicles, and cookies.
Missy Chase Lapine, former publisher of Eating Well magazine, faced the same challenges with her two young daughters, and she sought a solution. Now in The Sneaky Chef, Lapine presents over 75 recipes that ingeniously disguise the most important superfoods inside kids' favorite meals. With the addition of a few simple make-ahead purees or clever replacements, (some may surprise you!) parents can pack more fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants in their kids' foods. Examples of "Sneaky" recipes include:
-No Harm Chicken Parm
-Power Pizza
-Incognito Burritos
-Guerilla Grilled Cheese
-Brainy Brownies
-Health-by-Chocolate Cookies
-Quick fixes for Jell-O(R)
It's a book chock-full of strategies that will help any parent incorporate better health for the whole family.

FANTASTIC! BEST BUY FOR ALL PARENTS!!!.......2007-10-04
This book is fantastic for parents, grandparents and anyone who wants to improve the health of themselves or their loved ones! It can truly change lives and make meal-time a fun and delicious experience for the entire family. My family loves it and my friends are now also addicted as well. My only regret is not finding this book sooner! Great gift!
Just what we needed!.......2007-09-30
I wanted to serve one meal to everyone in our family and quit playing short order chef. I never have wanted food to become a battleground for my kids. And, I wanted to incorporate more veggies and fiber in to all of our diets. This book has some fantastic ideas on how to alter my cooking to accomplish my goals.
I made macaroni and cheese last night and watched both my boys (2 and 3) devour sweet potatoes and carrots without a complaint. This stuff works. I cooked more carrots and sweet potatoes that I needed for the puree, and served some of the chunks on our plates. I enjoyed the cooked carrots, and my kids didn't throw the chunks of veggies off their plate onto the floor. One of them actually licked the carrot in curiousity. I'll continue to serve sneaky nutrition AND undisguised versions on the plate. Eventually, my kids will eat the undisguised versions.
What works for me is to plan on preparing ONE puree a day, preferably when it is quiet. I freeze the puree in ice cubes by the tablespoon, and then can add them as needed to recipes. I can rotate thru the purees and not feel overwhelmed. And if I skip a day or two, I have frozen reserves to fall back on. That also lets me make the purees using on-sale produce.
Book is wonderful at upping the fiber in kids food!! I love you Missy!!.......2007-09-30
My son has a problem with constipation and I love this book. He got so constipated he missed school! Very picky eater, won't eat veggies. This is a god send. He loves the chocolate chip cookies (they have beans). So besides the vitamin issue, its really helpful for kids who need lots and lots of fibre. This is an awesome way to make high fibre foods. She has a flour blend with whole wheat. Some say this is not revolutionary, sure there are recipes out there with whole wheat pancakes but I *L*O*V*E* this because all the recipes are in one place. And the purees take a while but you can do it.
it is pretty sneaky..........2007-09-29
The book has a lot of great ideas to get healthy foods into my son's diet. It makes me happy to think that he is getting the foods he likes and the nutrition he needs...
Ok concept, poor exectution!.......2007-09-29
I have not made any of the recipes in the book and I am certainly NOT opposed to sneaking healthy things into foods, but I do have one HUGE problem with her "purees". The fact that she boils all of the nutrients out of the vegetables is pretty much defeating the purpose. Cooking spinach for 10 minutes takes most of the good stuff out and boiling carrots and sweet potatoes for 20 minutes--forget about it! I am not a nutritionist, but if this author is--shame on her!
Book Description
This photo of Escherichia coli being attacked by bacteriophages highlights rapidly developing technologies for using phages to treat antibiotic resistant infections without destroying normal resident bacteria, and without side effects. Phages are also being used to detect and remove pathogens from our food supplies, both plant and animal. Also exciting is the use of phages as vehicles to delivery DNA vaccines, often directly to mammalian immune system cells. Recent work also suggests possible antitumor effects of phages. We stand on the edge of a whole new world of exploration and applications of microbiology.

It's ok.......2006-02-19
It's an okay book. I needed it for a class. There are several mistakes on the diagrams (our professor noted which ones).
Lots of typos and missing info........2006-01-07
Good study guide when the answers were in the back. Sometimes the answers were off by one or non existent. If you can get past that, it does help, but jeez don't they employ a proofreader? For thirty bucks, I was kind of disappointed. The textbook is great.
Wonderfully Informative Book!!!.......2005-12-12
WOW! I love this book. Every time I read part of it I learn so much stuff that I never knew before. It is fairly advanced information but it is written in a very understandable way. I am in high school and I like it because it teaches in the same format as my school's biology text books. I use this book because I like to read about this stuff. It is so facinating. If you are in a high school biology class, read this and you will be light years ahead of every one else!
Great book for teachers and students.......2005-09-17
This text explains some very complex information in a very reader-friendly way. The photos, charts and practical examples of how microbiology impacts everyone's life make it very readable. I would recommend it for teachers and students!
Micro Made Easy.......2005-09-14
This is one of the best text books I have ever used. The information is clear, concise, and interesting. It gives examples throughout the book of how microbiology is being used now to help us.

Pan-fried Shrimp with Green Curry Cashew Sauce

Serves 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Total time: 15 minutes
You can purchase bottled Thai green curry sauce in most supermarkets, but this recipe proves how quick and easy it is to make your own. Refrigerate any leftover sauce, covered, for up to 3 days.
1 slice (1/4 inch thick) peeled fresh ginger
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons roasted unsalted cashews
1/3 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1/4 cup packed cilantro leaves
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon curry powder
Coarse salt and fresh ground pepper
1 1/2 pounds peeled and deveined large shrimp
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 In a food processor, pulse the ginger until finely chopped. Add the 3/4 cup cashews; process until smooth, 2 to 3 minutes.
2 Add the yogurt, cilantro, sugar, and curry powder; season with salt. Process until incorporated, 1 to 2 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed. Transfer to a serving bowl; sprinkle with the remaining cashews.
3 Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. Heat 1 tablespoon of the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add half the shrimp; cook until opaque throughout, 2 to 3 minutes. Repeat with the remaining tablespoon oil and remaining shrimp. Serve the shrimp with the sauce.

perfect title.......2007-09-24
This is precisely as billed...great food fast. Clear directions, and lovely pictures of the finished product. Healthy menus that are easily prepared. Love this book, and am giving it as gifts this Christmas.
Great Book! Exceeded My Expectations.......2007-09-23
Maybe not everyone would love the book for the reasons I do, but I really appreciate the vast number of interesting, tasty vegetable dishes using very common market items. There are beef and pork dishes, of course, but those didn't interest me nearly as much as the vegetables, soups, seafood and chicken--which have all been excellent and easy, as promised.
There's a lot in this book--along with some helpful tips at the end, and gorgeous photographs. I was really happy that its not all updated "classic American comfort food" or some variation therein that overwhelms good flavor combinations with too much butter, cream, and salt. These meals have a freshness and flavor that will give them wide appeal, and the preparations are straightforward and easy to make all year long. A very pleasant surprise.
Mixed feelings.......2007-09-14
Good recipes, but I seem to prefer my Every Day Recipes subscription.
I've made a few recipes and they're very good. It's organized by season which is nice. Somehow, I thought I'd like having one big volume better, but I miss my bi-monthly recipes more. They felt more inspirational and I can't tell you why....
A must have cookbook!.......2007-09-09
I found this book very useful. Recipes are correct, not hard to source ingredients, easy to read and tempting to make. Lots of lovely photos. Plus the cover is very hard wearing so it should last well. The perfect book when you are tired and feeling a bit jaded about what to make for dinner!
A well-titled book! Great Food Fast.......2007-09-06
Unlike many of these other reviewers I am NOT a subscriber to Martha Stewart's magazines and I probably would have shied away from the book if I'd read the cover more carefully.
I'm glad I didn't, though, because I am delighted with this book. I've made a dozen of the recipes so far and only had one miss (we found the flavor of the herb-crusted snapper to be insipid). Our household needs to produce food quickly but won't settle for garbage; we want food that is not only quick but flavorful, using fresh ingredients, and heart-healthy. This book answers all four of those requirements. Food is not only fresh but interestingly spiced; recipes often call for spices commonly used in Indian cooking (the combination of cumin and coriander occurs frequently, often with red pepper). And most can be prepared in 45 minutes or less. The fact that it is organized by season seemed a bit gimmicky at first, but I am forced to admit that the organization makes it much quicker to browse for new recipes -- I just turn to the section for the current season and know I'll find recipes that include fresh ingredients that will be easy to find in the supermarket right now.
The numerous recipes include many for the grill, lots of excellent quick salads that aren't the same old boring veggies-on-greens, and several excellent vegetarian entrees. I can't recommend this cookbook more highly; it should be on the shelves of all households containing two working parents.

great resource.......2007-10-01
this is a great resource book. It has lots of background info on dog foods and so much info on great supplements. It could be made easier with breakdowns or charts to guide you for quicker reference, because I find myself having to flip back and forth a lot. There is definitely lots of info and it has to be read more than once. I think the recipes are sound and easy to make. Although I can't cook for my dogs all the time, at least I can do it whenever they are ill or recovering from some ailment or surgery to ensure that their bodies are strong when they need to heal. This book makes it manageable to do that.
A great resource.......2007-09-23
This book is a great resource for pet owners. I find the health-care section of the book very useful. I have modified the recipes to accomodate the inherited allery issues my dog has. Modifying the recipes is a very involved process as the substituion of products recommended and appropriate amounts required for balanced nutrition can be a hassle to figure out, especially, if one's pet was allergic to multiple products.
This is a great book for pet owners who want to try homemade cooking and alternative medicine for their pets.
Excellent overall but diet not suited for all .......2007-09-01
There is more than one way to feed a healthy, non-commercial diet. I recommend buying both Dr. Pitcairn's book and Andi Brown's book, The Whole Piet Diet, to see which diet your animal(s) prefer. I have three pets, two 13-yr. old cats and one 1 1/2-yr old terrier. The cats had been eating holistic Blue Buffalo dry food along with some canned Friskies. The terrier was eating holistic Blue Buffalo dry food along with some raw meat, veggies, yogurt, etc. I recently learned that dry food is difficult for pets to digest and is terribly drying and causes digestive problems like vomiting, dandruff, etc. The Friskies is just plain junk food so I decided that I was going to feed healthier fare and bought both books (Dr. Pitcairn wrote the foreword in Andi's book). While Dr. Pitcairn promotes primarily raw meats with cooked whole grains, Andi Brown promotes cooked stews (grains included for dogs only, not cats). After experimentation, I found that my dog and one cat prefer Dr. Pitcairn's recipes and my second cat prefers Spot's Stew (from Andi's book). When I made the switch, I only started feeding the recipes without supplements to the cats. It took 15 days for them to eat consistently, then I started adding the supplements in small amounts and gradually built up to the daily recommended amounts. Tip: my cats preferred Andi's supplements over Dr. Pitcairn's (especially the essential fatty acids in the form of oils). All of my pets are doing very well on the diets but only because I was persistent in finding what worked best for each pet. I will never feed dry food again!
It's a shame..........2007-08-29
...that an obviously experienced and well researched vetrinarian would recommend a diet that includes grain as one of the staples of the diet. Anyone who does even a minor amount of research about the special diet needs of a dog would easily find that dogs do not possess the proper enzymes to break down grain properly and can lead to either minor or serious allergic reactions. Dogs should not eat any type of grain at any time. Anyone who reads this book, do not take it as gospel. Please do more in-depth research before you make any solid decisions on your dogs diet.
Besides that fault, there are only a few recipies included in this rather long book. I heard very good things about this book before I bought it and was thoroughly disappointed after I read it. Its hard to give this book anything else but a negative review.
Deserves 100 stars, but all they let me give is 5.......2007-08-24
This is the most incredible book that I have ever read on this subject. I could not put it down and have already tried giving our dogs his suggested diet and was shocked when they gulped down multi-grain bread, plain yogurt, and grated raw carrots. The dogs even at a banana and they now turn their noses up at commercial dog food. Have not gotten the cats to comply as of yet, so we are working on them next.

solid handbook.......2007-07-19
this is a solid, almost academic, handbook. it's points you toward the things you need to figure out but you'll still need to get additional information on your local regulations. personnaly, it discouraged me from opening a buisness at this time.
Outstanding book!.......2007-03-15
This book is very detailed and to the point. It covers all areas of the restaurant business. Then menu planning section is great. It gives so much foresight.
2004 Writers Notes Book Award Winner.......2005-05-18
The Restaurant Manager's Handbook is a no-nonsense, coverall manual for the food establishment industry. It's the essence of a successful handbook-no jokes, parables, and preachy lectures, just the facts. If you delve into the heal-thy index for fault, you'll abruptly bump into a page number for an answer, and if you're currently running a restaurant and afraid to appear inadequate, you can load the handy CD-ROM and pretend you're checking your e-mail while figur-ing out the monthly audit procedures or why the beer is flat. I'm not kidding. The next time your favorite kitchen runs short of the daily special or closes down for a lack of permit, serve them a copy of this great reference book.

REAL FOOD FOR CATS is The Cat Lover's Cookbook, completely revised with new recipes, new information, and all-new illustrations.
Customer Reviews:
Are we all rating the same book?.......2007-05-12
I bought a copy of this book and haven't seen any recipes that call for onions. Granted, I've only made about half the recipes so far, but I've seen nothing that will harm our cats. Two of the recipes I've made did call for garlic but the amount was so small that it wouldn't have any adverse effect.
I've made the Tuna Cakes and the recipe did not call for onions. The fish chowder recipe makes 5 servings - no mention of onion, and only one clove of garlic was needed.
I'm also pleased about the various safety tips throughout the book. I recommend this book to all.

I didn't see onions.......2007-05-12
I got a copy of this book, looked at the Tuna Cakes recipe and it did not list onions. Also in the back of the book with the human recipes it informs to leave onions out of the cat's meal. Not sure why there is a difference but just wanted to inform that I didn't find onions in the recipes. ????
Vet approved???.......2007-04-23
Onions can cause Heinz's Anemia in cats. I would not take my cat to any vet that approved feeding onions to a cat. This book has dangerous recipes. Spend your money on better book.
Buyer beware and ABBEY is wrong.......2007-04-17
UPDATE 5/14/07: Because there is a mystifying dispute between those readers who see onions (harmful to cats) in these recipes and those who don't, here's an easy way to see for yourself and make an informed decision. Use the excellent Amazon feature "Search Inside This Book." Either key in the word "onion" and click "Go" to see how many pages list onions in the recipes (I find 22) or choose the "Surprise me" option and click it repeatedly -- it took only 4-5 clicks for me to find "Kitty Tacos" with 1/2 cup onion listed as the second ingredient.
Original April 2007 review:
WARNING: Onions are toxic to cats, and these recipes are full of onions.
While a few recipes in this book may be safe, it's hard to trust that because many recipes specifically for cats contain onion -- and ABBEY, whose review 32 people found helpful, is dead wrong that this is only the "people recipes at the end of the book." (Sorry, ABBEY, but I did read and comprehend the information.)
Don't be swayed by my saying so -- please judge for yourself. With the pet food recall, we all need to watch out for each other and, more importantly, for our precious cats. Below, I have copied page 23 verbatim, and it is NOT one of the "people recipes" at the end of the book:
"Tuna Cakes
Cats will race even faster to the sound of a whirring can opener if they think you're about to prepare this tasty and nutritious dish.
2 eggs
1 6-ounce can tuna, drained, and flaked
1 small ONION, finely chopped
4 slices bread, cubed into kitty size bits
1/2 teaspoon iodized salt
1 teaspoon brewer's yeast
1 teaspoon bonemeal
2 tablespoons margarine
1. Beat the eggs lightly in a bowl. Add the tuna, ONION, bread cubes, salt, brewer's yeast, and bonemeal. Mix thoroughly until moistened.
2. Form into small patties. Melt the margarine in a skillet and fry the patties until golden brown. When cool, crumble each patty and serve.
Makes 3 to 5 servings."
On page 25, the Fish Chowder specifically for cats calls for 1 glove garlic, minced and 2 tablespoons finely chopped ONION. On page 27, the Boogaloo Shrimp, again, in a recipe supposedly specifically for cats, the first ingredient is 1/2 chopped ONION. Page 32, the recipe for Chicken with Greens, there is a warning about introducing cats gradually to greens because they can be sensitive to it, but no warning about the 1 clove garlic in the recipe or on page 33, the Chicken Salad that calls for 1 tablespoon finely chopped ONION. The "people" recipes ABBEY refers to, called "Tandem Cooking" by the author, do not begin until page 81.
I am extremely disappointed I bought this potentially dangerous book and applaud the reviewer Cordelia Wright who is researching the vet who wrote the preface.
This is not a time to stand on ceremony when pet health is at stake from commercial food -- we need reliable sources of information about safe food, and this book is not it for the reasons previous reviewers have stated. Buyer, please beware.
I have complained to Amazon about continuing to promote and sell this book in the face of the pet food scare (a sick irony that people avoiding tainted commercial food turn to a so-called "vet-approved" recipe book containing recipes that will harm their cats!), and I have written a complaint to the book's publisher. I'm also pursuing getting a journalist involved to warn the public and find out how this book's author can claim these recipes are "vet-approved" when no vet would say giving onions to cats is safe.
Dangerous Recipes.......2007-04-10
I am so disappointed. Continuing to sell/publish this book is irresponsible. As two recent reviews have noted, the recipes are full of ONIONS and, occasionally, GARLIC, both toxic to cats (onions can cause Heinz's Anemia). One other review wrote that the onions were confined to the "people food" section of the book, but this is not true. There are onions everywhere. I agree that this book cannot possibly be vet approved, and I intend to do some research into the guy, a vet, who wrote the preface. His Latin is fake, and so, to my great disappointment, is the potential security and well being proffered by these recipes. I am going to return the book. Even if one leaves the garlic out, can one really trust that the author's nutrional advice is sound ? With great disappointment, I recommend that you stay far away from this book, even though the illustrations are charming.

Practical and Delicious.......2007-09-09
I bought this book for my mom, read the recipes and had to buy it for myself. I love the recipes that begin with a big item that can be used for different meals over the following 3 days. As a working mom, these recipes have made meals so much easier!
a good book.......2007-08-26
I haven't gone completely through this book yet. I like what I have read. This is my first book purchased written by robin miller. I have all of paula deens and rachael rays books. I love to cook. Robin has many good ideas.
A great cook book!.......2007-08-09
Finally, real food for real people. Nothing fancy-smancy. Recipes I can actually cook and want to eat. Also enjoyed Robin's pantry list and organization tips.
Very nice!.......2007-07-13
Love the time saving recipes when you can take a base ingredient and transform it into several different dishes.
Excellent food .......2007-07-05
This book is great for quickly putting meals on the table if you're willing to do a little work on the weekends--there hasn't been a dish my husband or I haven't liked. Some have been a little adventurous for our 3 year old, and that is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. Robin Miller is particularly good with pork dishes. I normally don't like ham/pork dishes, but her balsalmic pork tenderloin, citrus-glazed ham, and tropical-fruit glazed ham are wonderful. I also recommend her rotelle with broiled feta. I also like that she makes meal suggestions for pairings with her main dishes.
