Ah, mice. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. Laura Numeroff and illustrator Felicia Bond, creators of the bestselling picture books If You Give a Mouse a Cookie and If You Take a Mouse to the Movies, are back with If You Take a Mouse to School. As you might imagine, there are great risks in bringing your mouse to school. For starters, he'll ask you for your lunchbox. And then a sandwich. And a snack for later. Still not satisfied, he'll want to participate in everything from math to soccer. Children and adults alike will revel in the hilarious, very cute illustrations of the mouse in the classroom: hanging from the top corner of the blackboard to spell (aptly enough) "precocious" and "adrenaline," writing "'Goodnight Mouse' by Mouse," sitting inside the boy's open backpack playing with a yo-yo, etc. This book is more episodic in nature than the truly cause-and-effect formula of the previous books: "If you give a pig a pancake, she'll want some syrup to go with it." Nonetheless, kids who know and love this rollicking read-aloud series will laugh and play to see a mouse at school. (Ages 4 to 8) --Karin Snelson

Book Description

If you take a mouse to school, he'll ask you for your lunch box. When you give him your lunch box, he'll want a sandwich to go in it. Then he'll need a notebook and some pencils. He'll probably want to share your backpack, too . . .

The famous mouse from the New York Times #1 best-seller If You Take a Mouse to the Movies and If You give a Mouse a Cookie is back for his first day of school. Only Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond could make school this much fun!

5 out of 5 stars Cute story.......2007-03-08

My kindergarten class loves this whole series. They ask me to read it over and over!

3 out of 5 stars Not the best one, still lots of fun.......2006-12-16

Need a book to read to a group of kids- the "if you..." is a perfect choice. Not sure what to give a kid 1-6? Ask the parents if they already own it, if not, sure hit! Be sure to laugh with your child, make reading fun, ask them to guess the next step and pat yourself on the back for being a great influence to them.

4 out of 5 stars If You Take a Mouse to School.......2005-09-17

I like to read this book at the beginning of the school year.

5 out of 5 stars Great Going to School Book.......2005-09-13

My daughter (2 years old) loves this book. It's funny, cute and has wonderful pictures. It was so great she even fell asleep with it (a first).

All of Laura Numeroff's books are worth adding to your collection.

4 out of 5 stars Ok, but then what?.......2004-05-08

OK, bottom line, my daughter loves this book. Loves the story and loves the pictures. So I have to give it an overall positive review because the primary purpose of a kid's book is to entertain the kids.

But I do have a little complaint, and I know how silly it will sound. This book is a follow-up to "If you Give a Mouse a Cookie" and others in the series, such as another of my daughter's favorites, "If you Give A Moose A Muffin." What is clever about these stories is that they develop a circular sequence of events that ultimately lead back to the beginning for what could be another in an infinite series of rotations through the steps. This book does not end so neatly. The mouse must return to the school to retrieve his lunchbox, hence you are taking a mouse to school again, but it is at the end of the school day, not the beginning. If there were one more page it would say, "Umm, then you'd go home."

I know, again I'm being too nit-picky for a kid's book. But parents will feel more enthusiastic to read a kids book where the gimmick is successfully carried out, not one that seems forced, as if the writer had a deadline. Or a nap to take.

Still, thumbs and tails up. I gave it four stars figuring I'd give five to Felicia Bond, the illustrator, and three to the author, Laura Numeroff.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars WHAT'S SUCCESS WORTH TO YOU.......2000-10-23

This is a very good book - it is in bite size sections that you can read, even one a day, to learn some techniques to get a YES from people who have the option to say NO to you.

Many of the MNCs use this book for their senior managers to learn new skills - so it works.

At twice the price, this book is definitely worth buying.

5 out of 5 stars Best book on negotiating tactics.......1999-08-21

I collect books on negotiation and used to teach it at college level in connection with real estate classes. Give and Take is the best book I know of on negotiating tactics as opposed to theory. It is an alphabetically arranged list of dozens of strategies and ploys used by real negotiators. It is similar in this regard to Gavin Kennedy's excellent Pocket Negotiator (Economist) and David Churchman's Negotiation Tactics. Give and Take is most suitable for those involved in business and sales negotiations. I own several copies and carry one around with me in my car. Unless you're in an academic setting or a professional negotiator, this book is the one to buy. It has made me a lot of money.

1 out of 5 stars Misleading Title and Horrible Organization.......1999-01-27

I have 2 major complaints regarding this book. First, the title is completely misleading. The book contains strategies for SALES people. I agree that there may be strategies that sales people use that may be employed by other business people, yet I hardly agree that this constitutes "The Complete Guide to Negotiating Strategies and Tactics."

Second, the organization of this book is horrendous. It's exactly like reading an Internet newsgroup. There are no chapters, but instead one or two pages on each "tactic or strategy." There is no attempt at categorizing the information. And like a newsgroup, the noise to signal ratio is ridiculously high. While you may find golden nuggets of wisdom, you will spend precious time digging for them. Best of luck if you ever want to refer to them again.

Look elsewhere for a good book on negotiation. My copy just went into the garbage, maybe you can look there.

5 out of 5 stars Complete, concise guide to negotiating.......1998-12-11

This book gives anyone a great guide for negotiating in business. It thouroghly goes over hundreds of negotiating tactics. A must read for anyone in business. Also good for personal negotiations.

5 out of 5 stars Best Madison Finn book ever!.......2006-05-06

This book was great. It is at it's greatests when it is read around Valentine's day. It is a great, great, great book that you will want to read over and over again. I hope this review is helpful to you. This Valentine's book is also very funny and very sad at the same time. You must read it! Even Madison's dog, Phin, is in love with a golden retreiver belonging to a ninth grader. "Love is in the air" and "If love makes the world go 'round...." are the sayings of Madison Finn in this special. And you don't have to read the books before it! I love this book. I've probably already said that. But i love it so much i want to read it again! I finished it in a week! I love it. It is one of my favorite books, and you will understand what i'm talking about once you read this book.
Madison Finn can't find a date for the Heart-to-Heart dance. Her friends, Aimee, Egg, Fiona, and a couple more all have somebody to go with. But Madison keeps on getting messages from somebody named "Orange Crush" who seems to know that Madison likes Orange. He doesn't let Maddie know who he is until the dance. Madison can't hold herself back! she needs to find out who her secret admiarer is before the big dance, but she has to wait. She hopes it's Hart, a girl in her grade, but she's not quite sure. Who is prince charming? Read this book to find out, and hope for good results! You will sooooooo get them!

3 out of 5 stars not really hearty.......2005-07-11

Madison Finn 11 can be romantic yet it thumps the heart (between Fiona and egg). It doesn't really freak us out but i like it. But i really wish it was Hart than Dan because from Madison Finn 1 up to the end, Madison longs for Dan.

"From The Files of Madison Finn"
    by: Laura Dower

How many times have you wondered, or even thought that you were the only one that "this" is happening to? Well, when reading "From the Files of Madison Finn" by the talented Laura Dower, you will find out that you are not alone. Reading this book is like finding out you had an unknown sister, she guides you in giving you advice and has many interests that you do, yet she is unique and has just as many differences.

Madison Finn, a 12 year old girl going to school in the state of New York is prepared to face her first winter as a Jr. High student, but what she doesn't know is that the first sharp turn is up ahead in the fog she's driving in. As the story begins, love is in the air, Bigwheels gets a boyfriend, Madison's English class gets a special assignment, Madison thinks that she is loveless until...she hits the sharp turn in opening her mailbox to find that someone has left her a secret admirer letter. As she opens to read, the winding road begins.

This book is a book that is an example of many of our lives, her secret thoughts, her love for the computer, and not to mention her hometown life. Faced by the strangest thing that has ever happened to her, Madison Finn discovers more and more notes and clues that slowly reveal who is in love with her. Madison now has tons of e-mails in her inbox, a ton of notes in her locker and the jitters for the school dance that is not that far away.

Decided to go to the school dance in a group, Madison is determined to find her secret admirer before the big date. This book is the best written of the 16 series because it presents a tale of a girl, who's life is only just starting to get complicated. Leaving you feeling like you have a new found friend, I recommend this book to girls ages 10-14. It is so interesting I found it hard to close my eyes when I read before bed-time. Read during the day, as something fun to do, it leaves you wondering then at the end a shocking answer is revealed. Please take my advice and read this wonderful book!

    5 out of 5 stars jesi's thoughts.......2004-06-27

The romance and mystery of this book swept me off into Far Hills. Who could love Madison so much that they can't say anything? And with so many suspects it starts to get confusing! Of course poor old Madison doesn't stop over-thinking each and every clue! Could it be this kid Todd she met on a dog walk? Or is it Hart? Or Drew? Or Dan? Or Chet? Or Egg? Ew! I think it's so romantic, the flowers, the candy, the everything. Now the only problem is: What is Madison going to do when she finds out who Orange Crush really is? What if it isn't who she's really hoping for?

    3 out of 5 stars jesi's thoughts.......2004-06-27

Of course it's not the best book Laura Dower has even printed; I mean when has someone NOT been Madison. Of course each time gets more complicated as if it's a mystery in itself. I think it was so cool and so wonderful that Madison could help out the elderly women, especially since her own memory is slowly slipping away from her. Could you even imagine not remembering who you are? How could you enjoy something when you can't even pull up your name? The most genius, creative, and amazing thing Madison ahs done was the life like snow globe. I can't think of any other gift Mrs. Romano would want to receive!

Levy has seen firsthand the power of corporate philanthropy to advance business goals while improving our communities and enriching our personal lives. His unparalleled experience in and outside of foundations inform every aspect of this guide to doing good and asking well. When Life Takes More Than It Gives

Life sometimes asks women to endure circumstances that are beyond reason. Moms, grandmothers, wives, teachers, counselors they're all caregivers, women who go not only the second mile, but sometimes the ninth or tenth. They're always giving, because others are always demanding. What's the secret of those who make it? Those who live victoriously have learned to thrive in spite of it all by staying within God's reach.

Neva Coyle knows what it's like to wonder what more God could expect of her, to be afraid to hear His call that might ask her to do one more thing. She invites women to stop living within earshot of God but out of His reach and to never underestimate His care for them. She encourages women to trust that God calls on them to show compassion, not to condemn them.

Designed to fit easily into a busy schedule, day by day this study will help you open new doors in your life that pave the way to a deeper intimacy with God and others.

Welcome to the hilariously hypothetical world of Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond. Everything has an impact on everything else in this world, so if you take a mouse to the movies, don't be surprised if you find yourself being run ragged by the exuberant little fellow's increasingly grand appetites. When we first met him in Numeroff and Bond's tremendously popular If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, he had more energy than a 2-year-old on lollipops. Now, in the excitement of the Christmas season, he's unstoppable. Going from movie theater to Christmas tree lot to the neighbor's yard for snowmouse-building, he's a very demanding mouse indeed--in only the best way, of course.

The freshness of the If You Give a... series is diminished only slightly as the sequels pile up. The dazed and earnest look on the face of the mouse's long-suffering friend makes a marvelous foil for the mouse's high-spirited expressions. Adult readers will chuckle as they recognize the ephemeral passions of a child, while children will simply love the unfolding chain of events. A perfect Christmas read-aloud for the impetuous youngster on your list. (Ages 4 to 8) --Emilie Coulter

        Book Description

If you take a mouse to the movies, he'll ask you for some popcorn. When you give him the popcorn, he'll want to string it all together. Then he'll want to hang it on a Christmas tree. You'll have to buy him one....

The energetic little mouse from If You Give A Mouse A Cookie is back again, this time with a host of holiday antics. Laura Numeroff and Felicia Bond have created yet another irresistible tale in the tradition of the best-selling If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, If You Give A Moose A Muffin, and If You Give A Pig A Pancake.

I have purchased the full set of Laura Numeroff books for all 4 of my children. They were the favorite books of my son who passed away at the age of 10 due to brain cancer a few years ago. I am now purchasing the books for my grandson due in December. I have pre-ordered her new books. These are the greatest books!!! Every child (family) should own them!!!!!

My two oldest grandchildren, Bodie, age 2 1/2, and Sadie, age 5, absolutely LOVE all of the Laura Numeroff "If You ..." books! The newest one has been read over and over again, one after another! Whenever I ask Bodie if he wants me to read him a book, he goes to the bookcase and comes back with a huge armful of books and they are ALL Laura Numeroff's books! I highly recommend If You Take a Mouse to the Movies and the rest of the series, as well!

Sometimes life takes over; we no longer feel we have any control. H. Dale Burke addresses this condition in his latest book "Take Back Your Life!" We set goals for ourselves and when we successful reach those goals suddenly they take over. One example the author gives is the desire for a family. He gets his wish, then his ministry takes off and suddenly he becomes "busier and busier." Life becomes overwhelming, you are being pulled in all directions; suddenly you have no time for yourself or God. But Burke offers hope. "The monster can be tamed!" Burke explains that "Life is too fast, Life is too complex, Life is out of control, Life is too overloaded, Life is actually underutilized, Life tells me to climb higher of the ladder of success. Burke explains that we need to slow life down, simplify it, recapture it, do less, in Christ we can accomplish more, true success is not up the ladder, but down it!" The key is to submit to God and let Him be God

This book offers 10 choices. The end of each chapter offers an encouraging word that will guide you into making the changes you need to make to lead a healthier, happier life.

Like most people there have been times when life has become overwhelming. Children, grandchildren, work; meetings, etc. have pulled me in opposite directions; ballgames, school plays, committee meetings, all at the same time and different places have left me harassed. Throwing up my hands and hollering "STOP!" did not help. I finally realized that I had to prioritize. Submitting to God came first and all other things fell into place. This is the message H. Dale Burke is offering in his book "Take Back Your Life!" His book is well written and easy to follow. If we would all listen to his advice we would be much happier and less stressed out. The cover is eye-catching and the print is a nice size. It is with pleasure that I recommend this book to all harried adults.
