Practical Techniques for Change.......2007-04-10
I expected much more from this book , however there were some very practical techniques that were useful for living successfully.
Life change made possible.......2007-01-31
I started to use a review title of "Life change made easy", but that just wouldn't be true really. You still have to work at it if you want to change your life. However, I did find this book to be both interesting and useful. It was interesting as it provided a different perspective on change than I had previously encountered and it was useful because you could actually try the different techniques to see if they work.
The author's use of imagining is very powerful and can be done with the book, however, you will probably have to read through the imaginations multiple times before you can actually do it effectively. When you can go through the process without interruption (to read the next step), you'll be amazed at how it impacts your sense of being.
I enjoyed the book and hope you will too.

This book does not contain a CD.......2007-01-24
I ordered this book because I mistakenly thought it was the hardcover version of Paul McKenna's "Change Your Life in Seven Days" paperback published by Bantam Press. The paperback and hardcover may contain the same text (both are 256 pages), but only the paperback version contains an audio CD. This harcover version does not contain a CD, but shows you where to download the audio online.
Other than being miffed that I didn't get a CD with this hardcover, I am a big fan of Paul McKenna. His audio trances really work for me.
Make your own mind up.......2006-08-03
Pay no attention to the vitriol of the english reviewer below. McKenna won his court case against claims that he knowingly bought his doctorate from a disreputable university. He also won a previous case brought against him. And if you have Sky TV, he is on TV over the last year with shows about confidence, fat loss etc. His reputation in the UK is pretty good.
A good read from a great motivator.......2006-07-31
I enjoyed reading this book McKenna is great at motivating you to change your life and provides very common sense approaches working on you from the inside. It is not a great book that will radically change your life but it is a good book with good advice, it is a mixture of cognitive psychology and self hypnosis. Here are a couple of great quotes from the book:
The changes that matter most are more often changes in perception than changes in the world outside us. And we can change the way we perceive in a heartbeat.
Your experience of life is primarily affected by the perspective you view it from. Depending upon the meaning we give to situations or events,we will feel and behave differently.
If you like these quotes and you think thinking this way will help you buy the book. If you think this is common sense search else where.

Well-explained.......2007-08-13
I am certified as a Time Line Therapy practitioner and this was one of the "required-reading" books I had to read as part of my course. I've read it from start to finish and practiced it on myself as well as on others. It's been claimed that Time Line Therapy is 100% effective but I'd have to disagree on that. In my experience, it's probably about 85% effective, which is still incredible. This type of therapy can "cure" phobias, ease anxiety, get rid of fear, guilt, anger, and sadness. What I LOVE is that it is extremely easy to do and this book explains how to do it. I really don't have any complaints about the therapy itself, which (in a nutshell) simply lets you see your life as though it's super small on a timeline and you're looking at it far away. That type of view allows you to see the "big picture" of your life and fix events in the past.
This therapy has, for me, gotten rid of negative emotions easily and effortlessly. I've performed this therapy for many clients and they, too, got rid of it as well. However, some things still seem to come back. For instance, I hate hearing the sound of people eating and it causes great discomfort for me. I used this therapy and for several days, I felt I was "cured" because I could tolerate people eating without feeling irritated. It's now been over a month and I'd say that I'm about 50% less-annoyed than I was before, but not completely and totally. According to the therapy, I simply need to "go back in time, before the incident - higher and further back than before" but no matter how high I get away from my timeline (so far the timeline practically disappears), I still get irritated. Anyway, that's my personal experience. Not sure if that helps any of you, but I thought I'd share that.
The book itself is well-written and easily explained. As a whole, this really can help people on a very deep level. My mom, who is usually angry all the time, magically released all her angry emotions from the past within just 10 minutes using this technique. To this day, she no longer feels the previous anger.
Great book and a fun read!
Time Line Therapy and the Basis of Personality by Tad James, Wyatt Woodsmall .......2007-01-03
I found the information very useful, easy to read and use. You don't have to be an experienced NLP practisioner to understand and apply the material, which I can not say for some of the NLP books I have read.
Time Travel in the comfort of your own home... .......2005-08-08
I studied with, and then worked with, both Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall in the early days of TimeLine experimentation. This book is the foundation I use when working with others and teaching timeline techniques for personal use.
The only drawback I have at all to the book is that working with a book by yourself to achieve these kinds of trances is challenging for the novice.
I say if you are a student of NLP or hypnosis, a therapist or a personal coach, the book is a good read and will give you very specific tools to work with for yourself and your clients.
If you are new to timeline theory and application you may want to have the experience of it first via audio study and then delve into the written word.
Let go those emotions.......2005-04-07
I came across Time Line Therapy during my self improvement travels and use the audio cd Journey on the Time Line which the author has also produced.
My thoughts are do I really need the book, or do I want to use the method. If you are like me, and not a specialist, you may find the audio a quicker and more effective way to put the therapy to use.
Each time, after I listen the world seems a little brighter, my memories are brighter and my outlook is brighter because I have tackled a limiting behavior or belief.
Have you ever you noticed that people seem to behave the same way over and over with a similar negative outcome because they have not known how to overcome patterned behavior.
There are situations such as guilt, public speaking, phobias, shyness, unhappiness, anxiety, obsession, self esteem. Perhaps you have a problem getting past a certain situation or trauma.
With this therapy you have the tools to address these issues, by going back beyond the first time you experienced this behavior. Can you imagine going back in time and changing the way you felt before you were in that situation and to replace those feelings with more positive emotions. Then, as you go forward in time back to the present, you see all those other similar situations and all these are replaced up to the present time and going on into the future where you visualize yourself acting in a better way.
You also visualize your life as a (time) line, with a color. As you make these changes you imagine your line filling with color. You can see dark patches, bad memories being removed.
Because you have taken this action your world has changed for the better. These changes are made on a subconscious level.
I also highly recommend EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) which is a simple acupressure technique which can be done in less than two minutes. Can you imagine easily letting go of emotional issues such as anger, anxiety, fear, forgiveness, sadness, stress, phobias, procrastination, trauma etc. You can research this further and download a free manual at emofree.com, and buy various EFT books at Amazon.

3 books for the price of one.......2001-09-20
In the 260 pages of text this book contains, you'll actually get 3 books.
The first one is mostly Tad James' work and discusses the notion of "time line therapy", which are essentially NLP techniques in which a time line is used (the basic idea it to look for part occurrences of a problem that announces itself today, and "change" one's subjective experience, in order to live one without the problem - for instance, if one has a phobia of mice, go back to the first experience you had of being scared of mice, etc). You'll find more extended versions of the ideas discussed in this part in other NLP books, such as Bandler's Magic in Action, his "Using your Brain for a change" or the book "Magic demystified" by Lewis & Puchellic.
The second and the third part are mostly Wyatt Woodsmall's work. The second part deals with meta-programs, and borrows heavily on the MBTI (see Myers' "Gifts Differing) and the work of Leslie Cameron and her students (such as Rodger Bailey) - a more extended version of that work can be found in "Words that Change Minds". In the part on "values" you'll find the Graves model, which in meanwhile also has a full book dedicated to it, namely "Spiral Dynamics" by Don Beck and Christopher Cowan.
Unless you are already specialized in the topics covered in this book, you'll find them introduced in a readable way here. That by itself makes this book a good place to start. Afterwards you can always find more precise information in to the other books I referenced here.
The only reason why the book didn't get 5 stars is because it fails to quote some of the sources they got the material from, especially in the area of meta-programs. The fact that nobody filed a claim against the authors for that is probably the best proof that this material in now in "the public domain".

Are You a Transhuman?: Monitoring and Stimulating Your Personal Rate of Growth in a Rapidly Changing World
by FM-2030
Towards the end of the eighties, I had came across a few unusual books, which retrospectively had somehow influenced what I am doing today & in fact what I love to do today i.e. to pursue future-focused, change-oriented, brain-based technologies.
This unique book was one of them. It had been brilliantly written by a 'self-described chronic optimist' & a widely-traveled futurist/philosopher of Iranian origin, whose adopted name, FM-2030, seemed to resonate with his life-long obsessive conviction to create "a world of boundless wealth, endless life & unlimited free refills." [His real name was F M Esfandiary. I understand FM-2030 died from pancreatic cancer on July 8, 2000 at the age of 69, & was placed in cryonic suspension at the Alcor Life Extension Foundation in Scottsdale, Arizona, where his body remains today.]
Although I do not subscribe to all the author's beliefs & values as embodied in his book, I certainly admired his bold initiatives & far-sightedness.
This wonderful book spelt out both personal strategies & practical pathways to help people to achieve longevity & immortality. To me, it had served as a comprehensive field guide to life extension or 'transhumanism', which was the term the author would prefer to use.
From my personal perspective, the greatest learning experience I got out of this book is learning - & understanding - how to access & apply available technolgies &/or new products or services to extend human capabilities & capacities in an ethical, safe & responsible manner.
As far as application in the personal/individual sphere is concerned, my primary interest lies in the physical & mental enhancement areas. I would term it 'intelligence amplification or enhancement.'
In this respect & ever since the eighties, this book, among a few other good ones, has happened to be my precursor to finding, accessing & learning about other good books & resources (to name a few, Brain/Mind Bulletin, MegaBrain Report, OMNI, IONS, UTNE Reader, Knowledge Systems, Whole Earth Catalog, Loompanics Catalog, Tools for Exploration, etc.) as part of my relentless personal journey to enjoy a better mind, a better body & a better life!
The book was more or less written in the form of a questionnaire format. At the time I read the book, I found the questions to be most thought-provoking.
The key chapters are as follows:
- How Updated Is Your Vocabulary;
- How Telespheral-age (postindustrial) Are You;
- How Information Rich Are You;
- How Time Rich Are You;
- How Fluid Are You;
- How High Tech Is Your Attention Span;
- What Is Your Cultural Orientation;
- How Power Oriented Are You;
- How Affluent Are You;
- How Ritualistic Are You;
- How Creative Are You;
- How Emotional Are You;
- How Intelligent Are You;
- How Family Oriented Are You;
- How Ecology Conscious Are You;
- How Telecommunitized Are You;
- How Global Are You;
- How Cosmic Are You;
- What Is Your Ideological Orientation;
- How Future Oriented Are You;
- How Optimistic or Pessimistic Are You About the Future;
- What Is Your Level of Humanity;
- How Immortality Oriented Are You; and
- How Transhuman Are You; followed by:
- Conclusion: Aligning and Accelerating Your Rate of Personal Growth;
I believe many readers would probably have heard or read about Ashby's Law, or better known to NLP practioners/followers as the 'Law of Requisite Variety.' Well, one thing I am very sure of is that this book, especially the questionnaire, will certainly help & guide readers to put the law to work in your own life!
[For the uninitiated, the Law states that, according to my personal interpretation, in order to survive - & thrive - in a constantly changing world, your personal or internal rate of change in terms of variability of options, must equal or exceed the environmental or external rate of change.]
Although the author had written several other books, including the landmark trilogy comprising 'Optimism One', 'Upwingers' & 'Telespheres', this is his only book I have access to, perused & assimilated.
Transhuman.......2006-06-27
FM was a trained diplomat and deep-seeded humanist whose background gave him a unique perspective of the world. Messrs. Bostrom and Hughes are totally out of their league in critiquing him. Hughes is a undemocratic socialist who misinterprets FM's writings to push his own self-righteous agenda.
Learn as much as you can about FM2030 and ignore what anyone has to say, even me!
Ambassador from the future.......2006-01-23
FM-2030's books and ideas have received a fair amount of criticism over the years, even from people inclined to share his outlook. Philosopher Nick Bostrom in his "History of Transhumanist Thought" (2005) implies that FM emphasized the superficial or symbolic aspects of "transhuman" living more than the substance. And John LaValley in a review of "Are You a Transhuman?" (AYAT) in "Cryonics" magazine in 1990 compares FM to a mime who stands by a laborer digging a ditch and imitates his actions: The laborer and the mime both make the same movements, but the laborer actually moves the earth. (You can find both of these articles on the Web through Google.)
And yet, many of FM's speculations about the lifestyles and values of "Future Man" sound more plausible now than when he first publicized them in the 1970's and 1980's. James Hughes in his book "Citizen Cyborg" (2004) writes highly of FM's philosophy and compares his political world view with that of European social democrats' and the Greens'. (As Hughes says, FM's "Up" political orientation tilts 45 degrees to the Left.) FM's 1973 book "Up-Wingers" also merits a citation in the recommended reading list at the back of Joel Garreau's "Radical Evolution" (2005), though with the disclaimer that the early Transhumanists' speculations like FM's seemed pretty weird until recently, when scientific and technological progress now make many of them look nearly feasible. Despite the fact that much of what FM writes sounds like a compilation of liberal political correctness and bad science fiction cliches, beneath the noise you can find some interesting signals about thinkable ways of life in the 21st Century.
AYAT does have its problems, as other reviewers have pointed out. I identified how FM apparently didn't understand the difference between wage income and investment income when he writes about "wealth"; plenty of "well paid" people dependent on their boss's competence and good will for their paychecks don't qualify as "wealthy," as they discover when they lose their jobs and don't have enough income from trust funds, bonds, stocks, annuities and so forth to take care of their needs. (Your investments, unlike your boss, can't fire you, much less withhold payment because of your state of health, work habits, recreational drug consumption, sexual preferences, controversial beliefs or unwillingness to sleep with the boss.)
FM gave us a mixed bag, in other words. It should go without saying that you have to apply critical thinking to everything you read so that you can separate the good from the bad.
The Future is a moral wasteland?.......2006-01-18
FM-2030 seems to advocate the abandonment of the moral guidelines that have lifted humanity to its current greatness. While he attempts to present arguments for this, they fall flat with any introspection. A much clearer and decidely more thought out tome of portent for the future of humanity resides in the works of Ray Kurzweil.
The book does not get 1 star only for the reason that the author does touch on a few technological points that are thought provoking.
this book is way ahead of its time..........2004-08-25
This book is too far ahead of its time, it makes one ache with nostalgia for the future. The book might confound you with its 1980s political correctness, yet once you get past that you'll be surprised at the humanism in this book-- and the transhumanism.
Main fault: the author is more civilised than most of humanity. The time frame is way off: the year 2030 wont be as the author wanted.

One of the better school books.......2007-03-07
I had to have this book for college this year. There aren't too many college books I keep but this one I will be. It is a thin book but jammed pack with information. Very condensed. He uses his words well, no fluff. If this book didn't cost so much I would buy tons to hand out to clients. Everyone needs this book. You can buy a book on shyness, or emotional iq. However since he uses his words well you don't need to buy another book on these topics. On the inside of the book it lists reviewers and one of them happens to be my teacher this quarter; Tammy Ruff. She is an awesome teacher as well. I have to put her as one of my favorites in my whole college career.
Buy the book and experience the change in your life. You don't need to go to school to read this book.

Hear even the "faint calls and small voices" of vocation.......2005-09-29
This is a superb book. It doesn't work out linearly: you could read one chapter and one chapter there and do their respective exercises without losing on anything. It's not a "read-only" book but a workbook where you reflect on different areas of your life and write down the key ideas you discovered about yourself. And even if you thoroughly worked on yourself before, you are subject to find out new, uncharted areas. It discusses such unexplored subjects as the envy you feel that gives clues about your vocation, the detours and losses of your life, the power of place (favorite travels and inner terrains). The last chapter puts everything together, whenever you're ready. Take your time, you could be working on it for many weeks or months. Enjoy yourself!
Soul Mapping Offers a Gradual, Deep Path to Self-Discovery.......2000-09-26
I have long been interested in the problem-framing approach known as mind mapping, and that's what led me to order a copy of this excellent new book. I have only had a copy of Soul Mapping in hand for about a week, and I am already very excited about the work I have completed in it. It's not one of those "instant fix" self-help books, but one that offers a curriculum for life change that will probably take me several months, or more, to work through slowly. I like that - the feeling that I am working gradually on a process that will help me better understand myself, my place in the world and the options available to me out there. It's a truly caring, thoughtful and intelligent book that emphasizes authentic life changes over quick ones. I'm very pleased and I hope this book will find the wide audience it deserves.
Book Description
Unlock and Embrace a New Mindset about Business Creativity
The 20th century saw the United States dominate the world of innovation, but at the dawn of the 21st century it’s become pretty clear that the pace of change in a global economy demands not only innovation, but creativity. We must become as good at changing our perceptions as we have become at changing reality.
Inspiring creativity is one of the most pressing needs for American corporations, particularly those in markets that are forcing them not only to improve but transform themselves. Yet true creativity can be had only if you are willing to break the rules that have locked you in a set way of thinking, not just doing. This unique book will help managers think about how they think. This understanding will help them inspire creativity and sense when it is time to focus on the second half of change—changing perception.
The Forgotten Half of Change differs from other books the same way perception differs from reality. It is at once humorous and humanistic, making fun of our weaknesses yet sympathizing with our challenge to be both active and thoughtful. It entertains and challenges its readers at the same time with an array of examples drawn from philosophy, mathematics, technology, and linguistics. Ultimately, this book may help us regain our ability to astonish ourselves and others.

"Change twice".......2006-02-09
Built on the thesis that sustained change (and in particular the change to living with continuous change) requires that we 'change twice'. The first change - in arrangements, structures, relationships, processes and so on - does not stick without the second change, which is in perception - how we see the world. The author works through tools and techniques that challenge our established mind-sets and so facilitate this second change. The text contains useful lists - for example of types of questions and the impact of asking questions in different ways - and a variety of visual puzzles designed to challenge our view of 'the obvious'.
The style and coverage is somewhat reminiscent of the de Bono books, but with a tighter linkage to change in organizations.
Helpful to a broad range of people.......2005-11-10
Luc de Brabandere's book The Forgotten Half of Change: Achieving Greater Creativity Through Changes in Perception is a useful work in that it discusses many of the core elements concerning the stimulation of creative thinking. I picked this book in particular because more importantly, de Brabandere largely views the topics of creativity and innovation from the perspective of deconstructing stereotypes. Much of his work is concerned with going beyond the movements of creativity and innovation. He devotes a great deal of time addressing the necessity of altering one's persepective on problem solving, as well as the workings of businesses in general.
The book's chapters are broken down as follows:
Introduction:
This summary will attempt to provide the reader with a general overview of the topics that the author addresses in his book, and will provide some interesting anecdotal information regarding the issues of Creativity and Innovation, and their past and present applications in the business world.
Chapter 1: "Changing Twice"
De Brabandere discusses that change occurs in two phases: firstly, it happens through an alteration of reality-that is, changes in methodologies. Yet the second and more important phase of change is brought about through a change in perception, and in the way individuals see problems in relation to themselves and the greater world.
Chapter 2:
Discusses the notion that in our global socioeconomic system, frontiers are rapidly vanishing, and it may not always be possible to explain how or why things happen or function-be it organizations, individuals, or economic systems.
Chapter 3:
The author turns to the issue of perception, and how true innovation and creative thought stems from abandoning established ways of perceiving problems. Argues that human beings are hard-wired to think in a certain way, and that we must step out of these modes of thinking in order to be more creative.
Chapter 4:
Seeks to address the growing notion that change itself is ending in our modern society, and argues that change on a more local level occurs through "breaks," or instances in which an individual or organization makes a break from a preconceived way of looking at a product or process.
Chapter 5:
Generally discusses the notion that no idea is born good, and that ideas must be nursed into fruition through collaboration with others, and also through thinking that melds the creative with the rational mindsets.
Chapter 6:
The "eureka" moment is not simply a moment of instant creative freedom; it's a multi-phasic process that can be generated.
Chapter 7:
Talks about ideas in several broad senses, most notably that there exists a definite need to anticipate the future even as uncertainty increases in situations where new ideas are driving progress towards a goal. Stresses the need of constant, not erratic, creativity. Discusses the need for feedback in any creative process, regardless of the cost, be it material or temporal.
Chapter 8:
Discusses specific advice for managers on how to stimulate creativity in a workplace. For example, the author advocates giving small, symbolic gifts for every instance in which a creative idea is generated by an employee.
On the broadest sense, I feel that the book was a bit too abstract at times. While de Brabandere does an excellent job of interspersing his narrative with colorful examples, his subject matter occasionally drifts away from what I feel should have been emphasized more in his work: the notion that creative thought and innovative processes result in things that sell, and that any business that does refuses to act in accordance to that principle is doomed. I would further improve on de Brabandere's work by expanding on his advice regarding management in relation to the ideas of gaining new perspectives on existing problems, and using innovating techniques to crate new and revolutionary solutions.
On balance, however, I felt that The Forgotten Half of Change is an immensely useful book because it does place creativity and innovation in a practical light. De Brabandere's writing effectively conveys the urgency with which companies, organizations, and individuals need to embrace methods of creative thought. To de Brabandere, learning to think outside of one's traditional perspectives is not an infusion of technique. Rather, it is a process of finding capabilities and facets of the self that were previously hidden by existing stereotypes and fixed modes of thought.
Enjoyable and insigtful.......2005-09-17
Change is a normal part of life and as such it is also a normal part of business and the need to adapt. The problem is that the change is only the first step and there is more to change than change by itself. Dealing with the other half of change - a change of perception is what this book is about. The author challenges the reader to examine such things as thinking about how you think and inspiring creativity so that you can change perception.
With a light writing style that is at times humorous Mr. Brabandere leads the reader to an enlightening view of the human mind and how it traps us into particular ways of thinking. Escaping from this trap by changing our perception is what this book is all about. A lesson in creative thinking and getting out of the stereotypes that we have learned and handicap our thinking, The Forgotten Half of Change is highly recommended and fun to read.
A feet-up chat with your most intelligent friend.......2005-09-16
The tone of The Forgotten Half of Change could easily become preachy and admonishing, touting the value of change for change's sake. It doesn't. Instead, de Brabandere embraces the reader's own past experiences and gently challenges them with the question "what if...?".
In business, as in life we've all faced the disappointment of the great plan hamstrung by flawed execution or been amazed at the even middling success of the seamlessly executed, though fundamentally weak plan. De Brabanedere offers balance. He obviously respects and honors the thinker, the planner, the architect, and the inventor. At the same time though he pays homage to the mechanic, the guy with a metaphorical cutting torch, roll of baling wire, and can-do attitude.
Perception, it's a powerful thing. The end product might not be the conventionally beautiful artwork that the creative mind developed. Innovations tend to leave lumps, burns, and scars. We learn from de Brabandere though to love the scars, to acknowledge their role in the growth experience.
Put this book in your toolbox. Whether it rests beside fourteen pencils or a cutting torch you will find yourself putting it to work.

Book Description
Stuart shows that through quieting the ego and creating a rotation out of the three-dimensional world of external reality to the fourth dimension of the inner being, we can offer serenity and healing to ourselves and the rest of the world.

Insightful and Spiritual Diagnosis of the World's Pain.......2006-04-13
Stuart Wilde is either a madman or he has it all together, in a way like no one else I have read, in his diagnosis of how we came to be where we are. I don't think he is mad. I think he is coming from a right-brain, artistic-spiritual perspective.
If you wonder, like I have, why there seems to be so much lack of real character and morality in the world today (particularly in the Western countries, which are supposedly Christian) then READ THIS BOOK! I think he explains it quite well.
His diagnosis fits.
Whispering Winds of Change.......2005-02-19
Wilde's stuff is pretty good, pretty inspiring and very imformative about the nature of human being. You simply have to know where to pick out the pearls and toss the stones.
Also, when I read Wilde's short biography about himself and I read his tongue in cheek style, I cant help but to think that alot of what he says may be bogus, and that the man is laughing all the way to the bank. However, he does inspire me to start my own "new age/self help" system, with all sorts of little books with scribblings off the top of my head and perhaps sell pictures of my feet so that the buyer can have something to meditate on whilst reading my books. Wilde is a clever man, I admire him for that.
Arrogant, dated, offensive...just plain HIDEOUS!.......2004-01-14
I have to agree with "Not Happy"...I could go through this book line by line, paragraph by paragraph and just tear it to shreds, it's so full of contradictions, half-truths, and misinformation. This is NOT meaningful spirituality, folks, but rather typical trendy, shallow New Age (dated) fare with a dash of right wing politics, if you can believe that.
Wilde takes fundamental (largely accurate) observations about people's growing alienation from the dominant culture ("fringe dwellers"), the fiction of the boob tube, oppressive governments and religion, etc. -- stuff that could have made for a unique (i.e. intelligent) New Age read -- and twists, distorts, and warps them into explanations and conclusions that are just mind-bending, and NOT in a good way. Worse, he seems to have some kind of hidden right-wing political agenda. He doesn't believe in global warming, despite the overwhelming evidence (guess he doesn't "buy the science"...now who does that sound like?), he doesn't support taxing the wealthy to help the less fortunate (a point he hits at several times) -- again, doesn't this sound familiar?... of course, he also says we should be less materialistic, so why he's so concerned with defending the rich heaven only knows...oh, and he doesn't seem to care much for the homeless either. What a surprise.
Wilde also has little to no respect for aboriginal people's wisdom (too "tribal"), earth religions, goddess worship, etc. He repeatedly implies that Western New Age spirituality is far more evolved than the spirituality of people from less materially developed societies. He talks about our spiritual evolution as requiring a break with our mother (mother earth, the earth religions) -- very Freudian, very patriarchal, very lame. (Like the song says, "we've got to get ourselves BACK to the garden"...of course, Wilde also says the earth isn't a victim. Has he not left the house in 20 or 30 years?)
The author is correct about one thing -- the New Age has really hit a wall of sorts, for over a decade now, if sales of New Age merchandise are any indication. Books like "Whispering Winds" tell me this may be a good thing.
Unique Perspectives.......2002-04-09
Wilde is one of my favorite authors and this book was again an engaging read. I doubt, however, is this title is of the same quality as his classics like Affirmations and The Force. This book was published in 1993 and I suspect he might already have been proven wrong in some of his political predictions. Also, sometimes his thoughts meander and it becomes difficult to make out exactly what he wants to say. Nevertheless, there are brilliant passages and his dissident and unorthodox views of stuff like global warming are excellent. His analysis of government misrule, especially in the manipulation of money, is also very valid. His explanation of historical events based on the wave/particle duality is original and interesting. So yes, a thought-provoking book and a good read, but not his best.
A Celestial Perspective on Humanity's Evolution - Awesome!.......2001-07-11
Powerhouse authors like Noam Chompsky, Michael Parenti, and Paul Hawken illuminate WHAT is occurring politically, socially, and economically on earth right now. In "Whispering Winds" Stuart Wilde astutely provides a cosmic perspective on the WHY of humanity's current plight. With compassion, wit, and humor Stuart offers profound insight into our ego-based trajectory and the unfoldment of our evolution on this planet. This is one of the most influential and life-changing books I've ever read.

For as long as she can remember, Clare and her family have had a dream: Someday Clare will be a dancer in City Ballet Company. For ten long years Clare has been taking ballet lessons, watching what she eats, giving up friends and a social life, and practicing until her feet bleed -- all for the sake of that dream. And now, with the audition for City Ballet Company right around the corner, the dream feels so close.
But what if the dream doesn't come true? The competition for the sixteen spots in the company is fierce, and many won't make it. Talent, dedication, body shape, size -- everything will influence the outcome. Clare's grandfather says she is already a great dancer, but does she really have what it takes to make it into the company? And if not, then what?
Told through passionate and affecting poems in Clare's own voice, On Pointe soars with emotion as it explores what it means to reach for a dream -- and the way that dreams can change as quickly and suddenly as do our lives.

On Pointe.......2007-07-15
i loved this book It is such easy reading it doesn't even feel like you are reading poems.
On Pointe .......2007-04-25
Clare has a dream: to dance professionally. In the summer before her senior year in high school, she moves to her grandfather's home to train more seriously and try for the City Ballet:
There are only
sixteen positions
in City Ballet.
Sixteen positions
make the company.
How many in my class?
How many in the conservatory?
How many in western Washington
dream
like me
to be
one
in sixteen?
Clare trains hard and loves to dance. (I especially appreciate Lorie Ann Grover's descriptions of the pain and the beauty of dancing on pointe.) But Clare has a problem--one that escalates while living at her grandfather's--she's becoming too tall. And there's not much she can do about that.
Clare's not alone in her struggles. Her "best friend" in Madame's serious class is Rosella and Rosella has been throwing up to maintain her weight. Dia has grown too big and needs "a big bra" and her hips "are huge." But with the stakes as high as they are no one does much talking. When Dia is called in for "the talk" with Madame, for example, Dia disappears without a word. And no one mentions her absence.
Add to Clare's stress her mother's constant mention of "our dream" when they talk on the phone. (Note to moms: don't do this!) Oh, and grandfather--a wonderful, kind, prune juice drinking man six days of the week--becomes a little passive aggressive on the whole Sunday church-going issue.
In writing "On Pointe" as a novel in verse, Grover has chosen wisely from an aesthetic point of view. Clare's personality--straightforward, hardworking, serious--comes through in Grover's spare free verse. "On Pointe" is for anyone who has ever thought, "Even though I'm trying hard,/failure/could be/my future."
"On Pointe" is highly recommended for children as young as ten and as old as eighteen. I'd also recommend this book to the moms of the world (even the most well-meaning of us can make some big mistakes).
Where the fun is.......2007-04-21
Clare is a dancer. She wants to join the City Ballet, but she's taller than most professional dancers. Can she make it? If she can't, what will she do? On Pointe examines what happens when our dreams change. Clare begins the summer auditioning for the City Ballet, living with her grandfather, and chatting with her friend Rosella, who says negative things about their peers that make Clare uncomfortable. By the end of summer, Clare's perspective and priorities have undergone a dramatic shift.
Lorie Ann Grover's verse beautifully conveys the work, pain, and pride that come with being a dancer, as well as the self-consciousness and alienation we feel as our bodies change us from children to adults. Clare learns that our passions don't have to be our professions. This is a valuable lesson for anyone, but it is especially valuable for readers who are passionate about one art or another.
I would recommend On Pointe to fans of dance, poetry, or readers struggling to define themselves.
"Pointe" and Flex.......2007-03-11
A hopeful ballerina named Claire discovers that she may be considered too tall to pursue her dream. This book details grief, eating disorders, and family matters, all realistically explained. Most importantly, it is all conveyed with a sense of hope.
The novel is written in verse and flows as eloquently as the classical music Claire dances to, with a steady rhythm and pacing. All of the scenes that take place in a rehearsal studio and on stage feel incredibly real. The author herself was a dancer for years, and you can tell.
I recommend On Pointe by Lorie Ann Grover to fans of A Dance of Sisters by Tracey Porter, Dancing in Red Shoes Will Kill You by Dorian Cirrone, and A Time for Dancing by Davida Wills Hurwin. Younger readers might also like The Sisters Impossible by J.D. Landis.
On Pointe.......2007-02-24
On Pointe is a novel-in-verse book written long poem form. This book is for the most part an easy read. You wont want to put it down. This book shows the life of a girl named Clare and her dream of becoming a member of the City Ballet Company.
Clare is faced with different problems between her parents, and the kids fighting for the same spot she is. This book is for anyone who enjoys dance or just reading about a girl who is trying to live out her dream.

Not bad . ........2007-06-13
But didn't make any kind of profound effect on me. Just ok, the usual motivational stuff - just from a different person.
Awakened... enlightened.......2007-04-10
Phenominal book! I completely felt connected to the author as if she was writing about me or to me. Dr. Barbara De Angelis's words magically touched and inspired me. It is a book i know that i will read again and again, because life & love will continue to have unexpected turns...
deserves 10 stars.......2007-01-08
f i could give this book 10 stars i would! this has got to be one of the most positive and uplifting books I have ever read. It was written not only from the heart but from the soul. It is a wonderful book for anyone going through a crisis especially, but really any person can really benefit from reading this book. I couldn't put it down!
brilliant!.......2006-10-24
I usual hate the preachy,love-all, open your heart kinda stuff. This book bypasses that whole " be good" stuff and gives it to you like it is. I am going through a horrid phase of my life and this book has done wonders for my mood. Its very uplifting and in these times I can do with the kind of message she delivers. What I like the best is that she truly gets how a person feels and the diffrent kind of situations one can find themselves in. This book is truly inspiring.
Beverly DeAngelis's first loser.......2006-02-03
I can't believe it! A book from Beverly DeAngelis I don't like! I'm shocked and very disappointed.
When I pick up one of her books, I expect to be able to sink my teeth into some practical life advice, backed up by solid psychology. Not so this book!
How Did I Get Here is filled with esoteric, quasi metaphysical cum Christian mumbo jumbo, with a whole lot of self-validation. (Lots of testimonials on how great she is - very disappointing.) It's like she's thinking out loud, or having a discussion with a room full of PhDs with a contest to see who can use the biggest words. Every chapter could be distilled into one paragraph, and the rest is fluff and repetition.
If that weren't bad enough, the copyright is 2005, so I have a bad feeling this may be her new writing stye.
Has success spoiled Beverly DeAngelis? Is she gunning for an honorary PhD somewhere and this is her thesis?
This one I'm skimming, then donating. I'm picky about what I keep on my shelves.
