Magnifico.......2007-02-13
Good Book.......2007-01-15
I bought this book for a friend that is going to study Spanish in College and she wanted something to help her getting speaking spanish again and since I don't know Spanish I got her one of her favorite books but in Spanish.
THE TAPESTRY OF LIFE..........2006-02-04
Written in clear, spare prose, this slender tome is a pleasant little book that can easily be read in one sitting. It is a sentimental look at life and the hereafter. This book, the Spanish text edition of "The Five People You Meet in Heaven", focuses on an individual named Eddie, who is the chief maintenance mechanic for the rides at a seaside amusement park called Ruby Pier. It is around him that the book revolves. Eddie is a somewhat embittered and lonely old man who tragically dies on his eighty third birthday, while trying to save a child from certain death when an amusement ride comes loose from its moorings.
When he dies, Eddie meets five people in heaven. Each of them imparts a special lesson about Eddie's life. Each lesson allows him to understand the meaning of his life a little better. The five people that he meets show Eddie, and the reader, how we are all connected, and that the smallest acts can often have great impact on others, both positively and negatively. The book's bottom line message is that everyone has a purpose in life, whether or not it is readily apparent to one. It is as if there were a cosmic tapestry, with the life of one interwoven with the life of another, the threads crossing unknowingly but creating a larger picture.
Although the author definitely manipulates the sensibilities of the reader, that is not necessarily a bad thing. The book, however, is somewhat predictable and, at times, a little reminiscent of a treacly Hallmark greeting card, both schmaltzy and touching. It was no surprise that the book ended up as a Hallmark Hall of Fame production and turned into a made-for-TV movie. The film is quite enjoyable, and Jon Voight is terrific in the lead role. I actually saw the film before I read the book, and the film whetted my appetite for the book. While not as good as the author's other book, "Tuesdays with Morrie", it is still a book that will resonate, if only because many will find its simple message comforting. Profundity, after all, may be found in simplicity.
Book Description
What exactly is the basis for the Catholic Churchs belief in the role of the Pope What does the Catholic Church mean when it teaches that the Pope is Christs Vicar on earth And what does this teaching mean for Christians of other faith traditions Robert Stackpole STD addresses thoughtprovoking questions in his book St. Peter Lives in Rome which has been rereleased in this expanded and revised edition. Dr. Stackpole presents new evidence of support from the early Christian era for the papacy and even includes a timeline entitled Important Dates in the Early Story of the Petrine Primacy. Readers will be fascinated by this study that clears away misunderstandings about the papacy and clarifies its foundations in Scripture and early Church history.

Put the tires to the pavement!!!.......2007-07-31
This is a book that you will find difficult to put down. Perhaps you have read through the Bible, been in Bible study, help in some Church activities, and you just cannot put your finger on what is missing. What am I missing? All these activities and you just cannot put your finger on why... What you read in the Bible... doesn't match with what you are living out.
This is a rare opportunity to see how to put the tires of faith to the road of life.
I am so glad I was able to get this book and not only absorb what has been written, but to put it to practical use almost everyday.
Mark has a unique way of just down to earth sharing how and why to evangelize.
I have marked most every page for future reference as I got information overload while reading. What I mean by that is that I had to stop many times and not only ponder, but check with the Bible and find out just how scriptural this book follows what Gods word is telling us to do.
This should be a must read for every Bible Study.
Written so that you can do the one thing you can't do in heaven.......2007-05-25
Every page oozes with Mark's passion to reach people for Christ. He rightfully points out that if you are a beliver in Christ, then this is the one thing you ought to do. He clearly shows that evangelism is not a burden but a privilege. When you share your faith in Christ with others, that is always a winning proposition. It doesn't matter if you get rejected. You have sown seeds that can be harvested later.
An Excellent Challenge to Tell Others the Good News About Jesus Christ!.......2007-04-25
Mark Cahill has written what I think is an excellent challenge to Christians to tell others about Jesus Christ while they still have time. While there are several exhortations to accept the challenge, Cahill also writes of practical ways to share the gospel with others. The most often method is using the 10 Commandments to show how futile it is to try to earn our way into heaven and instead rely on Jesus Christ's death on the cross for our sins to provide the way for the free gift of salvation.
Among the important points covered in the book include:
1. People are hungrier for the gospel than we realize - Indeed, we seem to hear from the people who don't like Christians sharing the gospel while we miss the many who desparately want someone to talk to them about eternity.
2. Reasons why we don't witness to others - Many reasons have to do with fear of what others think and our own spiritual complacency.
3. Ask God for creative ways to share the gospel - I have done this myself and it works!
4. Don't worry about pleasing others - Jesus Christ was perfect and yet He was still nailed to the cross! How can we expect to escape persecution and hard times when we witness to others?
5. 4 thought provoking questions to ask when witnessing to others - What do you mean by that? How do you know that to be true? Where do you get your information? What if you are wrong?
6. Common questions and objections and how to overcome them - Some questions are honest while others are meant to distract us.
7. Be bold while we still have time - Compared to eternity in heaven, the temporary pain we may feel when rejected pales in comparison!
All in all, an excellent challenge and encouragement to keep witnessing until we either pass from this earth or until Jesus Christ comes back for His children!
Read and enjoy. Highly recommended.
A must read for all Christians.......2007-02-12
Essentially it is an easy-to-read book that contains convicting truths that each of us is commanded to share our faith. It then proceeds to show you how to witness, with numerous examples and a wealth of knowledge that can make you a bold speaker for the Lord. God bless you as you read it.
A Great Guide to Taking Your Friends and Family to Heaven with You!.......2007-01-26
As Christians, it's not enough to believe in and accept Jesus, repent of our sins, and become a new person in God. We also have to surrender to Christ. Part of that surrender is to share our faith with others. While there's a simple prayer to become born again when your heart is ready, learning to witness takes some practice.
If your church offers classes in how to witness, by all means that those classes and practice what is shared with you.
But if you have no such classes readily available, I suggest you read, re-read, and keep re-reading Mark Cahill's excellent book in which he describes the kinds of conversations he has with non-believers to help then learn about salvation. From these conversations, you'll quickly realize that you don't have to know as much as your pastor does to be an effective witness. That will give you confidence to try.
I was pleased to see how Mr. Cahill recommends that you break the ice from having a casual conversation to discussing what happens after we die for all eternity. Anyone could feel confident using this approach for the first time.
I recommend that you keep notes about your conversations so you can study what your experiences have been. We all have different styles of speaking with others, and such notes can help you identify what works best for you.
The book is also very helpful in citing tracts to use, legal resources to get answers to questions, and addressing common questions that many non-believers will raise.
But most of all, the book will encourage you to witness by making you realize that there's benefit . . . no matter how the first conversation turns out.
If you have a sense of humor (as Mr. Cahill obviously does), I'm sure you'll soon be finding unique ways to share God's word. I was chuckling for several pages as I read about how he inserts Bible tracts into six-packs and cases of beer in the store.
May God bless you, your family, your witnessing, and all you do!

Book Description
During World War II, the beautiful hills of Tuscany are transformed into horrific battlefields as Italian partisans sabotage the Germans. When Hitler's SS begins to commit ghastly atrocities, terrified villagers flee to farmhouses in the hills for refuge. The villagers initially cower as the war rages around them, but they overcome petty differences, confront betrayal by one villager, fearlessly house an escaped prisoner and survive a raid by the Nazis. As the brutal war continues, a young girl finds love, two boys become heroes, and secrets are revealed. Then an unthinkable event changes their lives forever. Inspired by the experiences of author Paul Salsini's relatives, The Cielo: A Novel of Wartime Tuscany is a riveting story of courage, endurance, and the power of the human spirit in the cruelest of times. "Paul Salsini has the gift of thoroughly knowing and deeply understanding the people and the region in which his drama is set, and so the sky literally is the limit for this moving debut novel of a luscious country too often forgotten when we consider the ravages of the 'Good War.'" -Jacquelyn Mitchard, author of The Deep End of the Ocean and Cage of Stars. "Salsini's style is plain, his choice of detail unerring, his scenes vivid, his control of the narrative superb. The Cielo is a memorable novel." -Donald Pfarrer, author of Neverlight and The Fearless Man. "Salsini's beautiful novel of Italy during World War II, peopled with a wide range of characters, deepens our knowledge of both Tuscan hill towns and the terrible effects of war on civilians." -Martha Bergland, author of A Farm Under a Lake and Idle Curiosity. www.thecielobook.com

A Gripping Novel of World War II.......2007-01-12
Paul Salsini, drawing on an Italian landscape he knows well, has written a exciting and gripping novel of World War II in which Hitler's soldiers vie with hostile Italian villagers. The characters are vivid, the situations realistic, and the story moves along rapidly. I believe this is Mr. Salsini's first novel after a lifetime of writing. He has grasped the form of the novel magnificently and I await future novels from his pen.
Enthusiastically recommended reading and a welcome addition to any community library fiction collection.......2007-01-06
In the summer of 1944, members of the Italian Resistance fought against German troops in Tuscany. When the SS heard that the Allies were fast approaching the area, they began to commit ghastly atrocities against the citizens of Tuscan villages, killing all those that could not flee from their farms into the hills for safety. In "The Cielo", author and journalism teacher Paul Salsini (a writer, editor and writing coach at the 'Milwaukee Journal', and the son of Italian immigrants) provides a fact-based but fictional account of some of those villages who resisted the Germans while having to overcome their own petty differences, endure deprivation, deal with betrayal, sheltered an escaped POW, and survive a raid by the SS. Not all of them would survive their ordeal. Enthusiastically recommended reading and a welcome addition to any community library fiction collection, "The Cielo" is a superbly crafted, deeply engaging, positively gripping story of courage, endurance, and testament to the Tuscany peasantry who suffered the scourge of war upon the gorgeous landscape and peaceful people of Tuscany.
Unforgettable.......2006-12-02
What people can get through when standing together, is sometimes unbelievable. When you couldn't imagine going on for another second, and a friend assures you that you can, you suddenly know that you will. In Paul Salsini's novel, "The Cielo," a group of villagers will come through horrific circumstances, very much different from how they were before, but ultimately, closer.
World War II reached into the hills of Tuscany, causing many farmers and young men to become partisans, fighting against the Germans in their own ways, often defending the most helpless right at the doorsteps. The villagers of Sant'Antonio are forced to leave by Hitler's SS troops. Fearing boarding a train to Germany, the 100 or so people flee to the hills where previously farmers had eked out an existence growing olive trees and making wine. In five abandoned farmhouses, broken into groups of nearly 20, the villagers gathered in fear of what would happen next. Shortage of food was the least of their worries, with German soldiers threatening to kill ten Italians for every German that the partisans kill. The woods are filled with dangers, mine fields, and desperate men, from escaped war prisoners to army deserters. Virtually trapped in the farmhouse, the souls gathered there, some knowing each other all their lives, and some not known in the least, must learn to reach out to one another, for if they do not, then even their sanity will be lost.
Sickness, desperation, bravery, betrayal, heartbreak and love all find the farmhouse to be home for months. Confronted by Nazis, bonded by terror, the villagers of Sant'Antonio find a family amongst themselves. Salsini's work brings history to life in rare form. Obviously, "The Diary of Anne Frank" comes to mind. The tale is told through the honest lives of the characters, through the human emotions of living. The beauty of this book is the raw humanity of it. Examining the terrible, atrocious actions of war, and balancing that with the heartbreaking compassion and outreach of one soul to another, "The Cielo" is an unforgettable read. You won't be able to put it down, through tears and smiles, until you reach the very end.
