Book Description
Science has recently begun to prove what ancient myth and religion have always espoused: There may be such a thing as a life force.
Lynne McTaggart, indefatigable investigative journalist, reveals a radical new biological paradigm -- that on our most fundamental level, the human mind and body are not distinct and separate from their environment but a packet of pulsating power constantly interacting with this vast energy sea.
The Field is a highly readable scientific detective story that offers a stunning picture of an interconnected universe and a new scientific theory that makes sense of supernatural phenomena. Original, well researched, and well documented by distinguished sources, The Field is a book of hope and inspiration for today's world.

its all in the Field.......2007-09-30
I am on my second reading. The information is important enough for me to be able to re-late it to others, especially in my progressive Christian church group. Although written in 2001...science is still kicking against some of this wisdom of it's own. Bucky Fuller said we're always 50 years behind the leading edge.
Excellent coverage of research bringing science to Consciousness.......2007-09-29
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is heartening to see that science is finally "discovering" what has been known (but not well publicized) since the dawn of humanity--that we are all part of an infinite, unified energy field which I and many others choose to call God or Consciousness or Omniverse.
Ramifications of the Zero-Point Field are infinite as is the field itself. It is the source of all present and future energy and the ultimate solution to the apparent energy shortage on earth. It is the primordial, timeless energy source from which all physical matter is created. Well done, Lynne!

WOW.......2007-09-22
I had this pegged as a new-agey book that presented pseudo-science as science and fact. Not so. This book presents experiments done, from the 70s on, that will blow your mind and challenge your ideas of reality. McTaggart presents each experiment as an engaging story and overall, she feels authoritative. There are a few moments where I questioned the deductions that were made, but for the most part, I was surprised at how rigorous these experiments were - some at prestigious universities and some even backed by the CIA. McTaggart does little synthesis of her own, mainly just relying on the experiments & scientists to speak for themselves.
Sadly enough, the reason why none of us have heard about this stuff isn't because it isn't scientifically valid, but, according to McTaggart, it's because the scientific community is extremely conservative, and many of the experiments shake the foundations of what modern science has been based on.
I cannot recommend this book enough. The writing style is engaging and thorough. It really has changed my view of the world and opened my mind to a realm that I was always highly suspicious about, but interested in nonetheless. This book makes me want to explore reality and the power of my mind!
Simply superb.......2007-09-16
Mind blowing stuff ! I bought mine about a year ago and another one for a pal. Probably the best in a long list of books of this type
A scientific compilation of our true identity.......2007-09-09
I have followed this line of thinking for many years and have always believed this, but Lynne McTaggart brings it all together in one book, "The Field". This was fascinating reading and difficult to put down for any period of time. It has a wonderful ending. The Field is must reading for those with thirst for self knowledge.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

A good source of problems, but a somewhat muddled narrative.......2006-12-20
This is an excellent source of problems if you are an undergraduate electrical engineering student enrolled in a class concerned with electromagnetics, which is probably one of the toughest courses you'll face as an undergraduate. Although the selection of problems is excellent, there is something to be desired with the explanation sections of most chapters. The author makes numerous references in equations to vectors that he fails to identify either verbally, or with a diagram. Also, I thought there were insufficient diagrams to adequately convey the concepts being presented.
I also thought it was odd that the first chapter was dedicated to such an elementary concept as vector analysis when there are much more complex mathematical concepts such as multivariable calculus and partial differential equations being used throughout the book that are not given an explanation. If you are studying electromagnetics, the best textbook out there is "Engineering Electromagnetics" by Nathan Ida. Ida explains absolutely everything about electromagnetics, and the problems in this Schaum's outline complement both the material and the problems in that book very well. The last few chapters in this Schaum's are on antennas and waveguides. It is a nice overview, but it is a somewhat shallow treatment.
A good supplement for that material is a 1968 Schaum's outline that is now out of print - "Schaum's Outline on the Theory and Problems of Transmission Lines" (ISBN 0070107475). It contains complete treatments of impedance and admittance matching topics, Smith chart fundamentals, plus many good worked examples and practice problems. The only drawback of this older outline is that the techniques used don't incorporate more of the modern numerical methods that are now more prevalent.
Too Brief!.......2005-09-23
It appears that the author assumes readers will already have a good understanding of calculus, vectors, and a somewhat advanced knowledge of electrostatics and electromagnetism! Readers without this background will likely struggle with the material!
I have a reasonable background (to tertiary level) in mathematics and electrical engineering, but I still found this book difficult to follow in many parts!
The reviews of theory at the beginning of chapters, are a bit too brief and therefore difficult to understand!
Many solved calculations leave out intermediate steps, which makes it difficult to follow. The calculations should include all steps in their derivation and solutions, so that there would be no misunderstanding on how the solutions are determined.
Therefore, this edition is NOT recommended for most people. This book is apparently only suitable for people who have a thorough knowledge of electrostatics, electromagnetics, calculus, and vectors.
To make this book more practical and attractive to others, the material needs to be rewritten and expanded!
Useful and practical Electronic Book.......2005-08-30
Electromagnetism is a hard subject for many people, including myself. Schaums Outline of Electromagnetics, by Edminister, is an outstanding collection of problems and solutions more even when a companion in Electromagnetics using Mathcad, the leading technical calculation software. The big advantage of the interactive Outline is its use of LiveMath. You can change the starting parameters of a problem and watch as graphs are calculated in front your eyes.
The student will find this is an exciting tool for exploring the universal laws governing electromagnetic waves and for gaining intuition about how various parameters affect the solution to problems.
Finally, I am sure that the educator in physics and engineering will find a comprehensive selection of laboratory and homework exercises in Mathcad, with plenty of room for creativity and expansion.
Great source for worked probs.......2004-04-14
This book does what my class book (Hayt) doesn't--give a plethera of worked problems. I sit in class and watch my prof prove theorems, read Hyat's book that discusses the "why", and had difficulties pulling it all together. I NEEDED EXAMPLE PROBS! Schaum's proved extremely beneficial to me and I will probably not take any more EE courses without it as a supplement. If you need to look at detailed example problems to study and do your homework, this book is a no brainer if you want to pass this difficult topic.

Customer Reviews:
Practical Leadership.......2007-03-28
This manual has evolved over the years, and while it extrapolates from the theories of Transformational/Transactional Leadership, it gets down to where the "rubber meets the road." This is leadership 101 in practical application with many real world examples inserted in key places to demonstrate that this is not just "hot air" to pump up some author's ego blimp. While this may be a military focused book, with a clear sense of situations (while not life threatening) one can interpolate the stressful leadership issues in a civilian context that can have dire personal economic consequences. This book will "Git 'er done!"
Excellent.......2006-02-22
Reads just like the Army manuel we received in the military but in laymans terms.
Highly Recommended!.......2004-06-04
As the army's touchstone for leadership, The U.S. Army Leadership Field Manual stresses ethics, high moral character and the honorable refusal to obey unlawful orders. This volume makes you ask, "How could the prison abuse incidents in Iraq in 2004 have happened?" American army training repeatedly emphasizes moral leadership, character and integrity, as seen in this primary field manual of leadership, which is used by soldiers and officers everywhere. Read the principles that helped shape such leaders such as Marshall, Eisenhower, Schwarzkopf and Powell. You can employ many of their lessons of moral courage and determination in the corporate boardroom.
We highly recommend this very readable book for those who seek to put current events into clearer context and to make use of their lessons.
Cheap and good.......2004-05-03
This book is very cheap. Just about the cheapest leadership book you can buy. But its valuable knowledge far exceeds its price. There is a reason why this book is used for mandatory leadership curriculum at West Point and virtually all military leadership training schools. It teaches soldier to 1)Be of strong ethical and moral character (loyalty, integrity, discipline) 2)Know valuable skills and knowledge (technical and personal) 3)Do utilize the leadership skills to make a difference.
There is a best selling book "Be, Know, Do" which relies heavily from this book as a source. I recommend buying this book instead because it is much cheaper and contains virtually all the information contained in that one.
I wish this book was thicker with even more useful information. The book could have expounded far more in detail, especially things related to interpersonal skills (communication and motivation). I know there is a wealth of psychological research on the subject of leadership which the book could have used for further enlightenment. But the book limits its focus only on its history and military leaders as a source.
Leadership is a deep and complex subject because it requires one to deeply understand oneself and the others. This book provides a solid basis.
Book Description
The problem of adjusting American military organization to new social, political, and strategic realities has perplexed military thinkers since the closing days of World War II; proposals for reform have proliferated since the end of the Vietnam War. Practical solutions, however, have proven elusive. In this volume, the author examines the various existing approaches to reform and concludes that most are either unworkable or irrelevant--if not actually counter-productive--to improving the effectiveness of American combat forces. The author rejects suggestions that perennial American military failure can be traced to the inadequacies of military personnel or of American society in general; he argues that neither a return to the draft, imposition of an ethical code for military leaders, nor creation of a General Staff will address fundamental issues. Likewise, he argues that structural reform, while needed, can only strike at symptoms, not causes. It is the author's view that the roots of American military ineptitude lie in the military services' organizational methods, not their organizational structure. These methods are the natural product of the unique evolution of American military institutions. They are incompatible with the structure, role, and doctrine of the armed forces as they exist today.
Customer Reviews:
The best description of the Army's problems I have read.......1999-08-11
Bassford's critique is as valid now, after the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Soviet Union, the military drawdown, the Gulf War and the radical shift in missions, as it was in the last year of the Reagan presidency. This validates his assertion that the Army's problems are systemic, rather than personal or situational. His examples will ring true to anyone who has worn the uniform for more than a week. His prescriptions for change are bold and insightful. I'm not sure they would all work, but they all merit discussion and consideration. This book is as important and valid today as the day it was published. It should be required reading for any officer candidate.
Book Description

Each armor-related branch of the service is described with detailed information on uniforms and insignia within these units. Features both unique period photographs and selected examples from current collections.
Customer Reviews:
Tops.......2004-08-02
Hard to argue with the other reviewer here. The book is usefully divided into chapters by branch of service (after introductory comments in general on the uniforms). The branch of service info is all footnoted with reference to German regulations, and discusses waffenfarben, shoulder strap devices, "elite unit" insignia where it deviated from the norm, dates of issue when insignia details changed, collar tabs, cuff titles, and other misc. insignia associated with each branch.
Jam packed with this information, the text is fully supported primarily by rare and unpublished wartime photographs.
A colour photo section is included; the photos are a bit murky and the section is not greatly organized, but is a nice addition.
There are also useful appendices and annexes giving a survey of numbered regiments of the various branches.
All major branches that wore the AFV uniform (both field grey and black, as well as denim summer variants, all of which are discussed and illustrated in this book) are covered, and even the Propaganda Companies, with several rare photos of the AFV uniforms in use by an Armoured Propaganda Company.
Most complete resource out there - be advised only Army formations are covered, no SS or Luftwaffe coverage - as the title very well states!

The black wrap-around jackets with bloused trousers worn by Germany's Panzer troops were perhaps the most engaging and attractive uniforms of World War II. Field Uniforms of German Panzer Forces in World War 2 covers all the field uniforms, insignia, and headgear worn by the German Army Panzer forces from 1934-1945 in one massive volume. Each armor-related branch of the service is described with details about uniforms and insignia within these units. The book features both period photographs and color images of uniforms in private collections.
The authors have divided the book into thirteen chapters representing twelve different branches of armor in the Wehrmacht. Each chapter begins with an overview of the particular group of Panzer troops, followed by a detailed account of their uniforms, branch colors, and specialized insignia.
In addition to extensive, fully documented research, the authors have selected a combination of more than 300 studio portraits, in-the-field images, and death cards to trace the evolution of the various uniforms of the Panzer troops in WWII. Great images run the gamut from beret-wearing troops astride Panzerkamfwagen IIIs to coverall-wearing soldiers of the Eisenbanpanzerzuegen (armored rail cars). If you even have a passing interest in Germany's armored forces, this book will provide an intimate view.

nice updating, goes on every deployment.......2006-08-28
I used the 10th & 11th editions of this book during my career in the Army. It always went to the field with me and to career development schools. It is a very good overview of all the necessary field manuals to help a soldier survive on the battlefield. This should be standard issue to all soldiers in the Army no matter what your MOS is, officer or enlisted.
What was Stackpole Thinking?.......2006-07-04
Anyone looking for the old pocket sized "Combat Leader's Field Guide" should walk away from this edition.
I purchased the 13th edition of the Combat Leader's Field Guide for my Nephew who has recently deployed to the Sandbox as a brand new member of the U.S. Army. I had found the 9th edition to be quite valuable in my Army career because it could be easily carried in my equipment case or in a pocket and was chock full of valuable information. The purchase of the 13th edition was based completely upon total satisfaction with the 9th edition (which, by the way, I still own after 21 years).
The 13th edition is the size of a hardcover book. That's right, it's huge. It's ungainly! IT WILL NOT FIT IN ANY POCKET I KNOW OF ON ANY UNIFORM I've ever seen.
It no longer in any way lives up to its name of "Field" Guide. Desk Guide would be a better name, I expect. In fact, that's what I'm going to use it for instead of sending it to my nephew. Well, let's be honest, part of the reason for keeping it is because Amazon's return policy would deduct so much for postage that I would probably pay more for postage than I paid for the book to begin with.
So, Stackpole: Just what were you thinking?
Who took the Field out of "Field Guide"?
Professional Military Reference.......2001-04-26
The power this guide offers to those of us in uniform is a summary of a whole lot of infantry know-how. If you are a new lieutenant or recently promoted corporal or sergeant --this is your new fieldcraft and small-unit-leader tactical guide. If you are returning to a line unit from recruiter or drill sergeant duty, this will assist your smooth transition back into the woods. If you are a company commander, there is a good possibility that the seasoned first shirt that revised this premiere Stackpole guide--can teach you a thing or two.
If you are a non-infantry military member or a civilian with an interest, this guide will cover the basics of fighting as a small infantry unit.
Good compact reference.......2000-11-27
Combat Leader's Field Guide is a great compact reference on platoon and squad level operations. It basicly summarizes information contained in US Army field manuals FM 7-8 and FM 21-75. This book achieves it's stated goal of being a pocket reference that you can take to the field with you to jog your memory. It fits in a BDU pocket, though the top end does stick out. National Guard and Reserve personel will probably find it useful though most active duty combat arms personel should know this stuff by heart already.
Combat Leaders's Field Guide 12th edition.......2000-04-12
I read The Combat Leaders Field Guide. This book had great tactical and movement strageties, it tells how to accomplish goals for both leaders and the infantry. It also goes in depth on formations, and combat in diffrent terrains from urban combat to tropical rainforest. Basically this book tells you how to stay alive in an army field battle.
Book Description
Known as the PJ's and the CCT's, the pararescuemen and combat control technicians are the elite forces of the United States Air Force. PJ's, whose motto is "that others may live", routinely go in harm's way to bring back downed pilots and crewmembers. CCT's, "first to fight", are responsible to enter hostile territory ahead of the rest and establish safe landing sites for arriving forces. Their self-sacrificing efforts are heroic. Their training is intense, exciting, and before this book, little known. Now for the very first time, their powerful training techniques are brought to light in this profusely illustrated and documented presentation. You've heard of the SEALs. . . . now meet their blood brothers! Includes sections on: stretching, weight training, calisthenics, running, swimming, rope climbing, entrance requirements, plus special dramatic coverage of water survival training, from both above and below the water line!

Unbelievable.......2003-12-14
While I have respect for the Air Force SOF community, I found this book to be poor overall. Specifically, it includes heavy use of machines for strength training. How any "elite" unit could utilize weight training machines such as Nautilus or Cybex is beyond me. Machines have little use in a serious strength program and are far inferior to free weights or even calisthenics. Machines remove the critical neurological components of strength such as balance and proprioception. I would have liked to have seen a book totally without machines and just focused on running, swimming, stretching, obstacle courses and calisthenics.
If Air Force SOF units formally utilize machines for their strength training, it makes me lose respect for them. They need to go back to basics.
Great Resource.......2003-09-04
Already A paratrooper in the USArmy I have met many PJs and CCTs. Following my desire to be one (a PJ) I purchased the book and have followed the work out for about 7 weeks so far and the results are more than satisfying.
It is a very simple no nonsense book with deatail of the running and swimming in the PJ/CCT Indoc course. What I really appreciated was the detailed break down of the work out with weights and aerobic strength training. what the book lacks in glitz and glamour it certainly makes up for in content.
The Extreme Workout.......2003-01-04
I bought this book hoping to get information that taught me a little something about PJ's and what they go through to become one. And it full-filled my needs and exceeded my expectations. I am now on my second week of training with their workout plan and I am loving it and experiencing the change. Thanks
About time!.......2001-08-24
It is about time AF Special Forces gets some recognition. While primarily intended for someone planning on entering AF Special Operations and wishes to prepare for the grueling indoctronation course, it offers an excellent regimine for keeping fit. All too often the public assumes that only Army, Marine and SEAL special forces demand a lot physically and the Air Force is "Soft". With a higher wash-out rate and longer, more intensive training required than any other Special Forces group, CCT's and PJ's often get applicants who fail within the first few days as they are not in condition. A great book for the fitness nut.
Excellent place to start..........2000-08-17
During my first year of AFROTC, we worked out to the above mentioned 12 Weeks to BUDS. That was grueling in and of itself. I purchased this book to prepare for field training, and so far it's pretty decent. People have complained "where's the workout" - it says in the book that they compiled the information so you can mix and match a workout that is good for you. And you don't have to be a physical trainer to do this - the sets are there, the combinations of exercises are there - you simply have to do them. Finish this workout COMPLETELY and I guarentee the book will live up to what it says "you will be in the best shape of your life." Oh, and don't forget the running...
Product Description
On 31 May 1968, Lt. Kenny Fields catapulted off USS America in his A-7 for his first-ever combat mission. His target was two hundred miles away in Laos. What the planners did not know was that Fields was en route to a massive concentration of AAA gun sites amidst an entire North Vietnamese division.
Fields, call sign Streetcar 304, was the first to roll in, and he destroyed that target with a direct hit. Three AAA guns began to fire, but, following his wingman's run, he rolled in again. This time many more AAA guns opened up and Fields was shot down. Soon, a rescue pilot suffered the same fate.
The Rescue of Streetcar 304 is Fields' exhilarating narrative of the forty hours that followed and what turned out to be one of the largest and most spine-tingling air rescues of the Vietnam War.
Fields mixes humor and drama as he recounts teeth-chattering close encounters with Pathet Lao guerillas, and nearly being killed time and again by friendly bombs. He describes in riveting detail the radio chatter between participants, and the stress effects of coping with fear, sleep deprivation, wild animals, and relentless AAA. By the time it was over, the U.S. Air Force had flown 189 sorties to rescue Fields, and in the process four pilots ejected, seven planes were lost or heavily damaged, and one pilot became a POW for five years.

rescue of streetcar 304.......2007-10-04
excelent book. as a crew member of USS AMERICA, on the same cruise as the author, we had no idea what difficulties the pilots had to endure once they left the ship. this is a real eye opener. kenny fields did a great job of not only telling his story, but making the reader feel like you are right there in the cockpit with him. very well done.
One of the Best!.......2007-10-01
This is one of the best books to come out of Vietnam. Streetcar 304 gets you right down in the weeds with him while he does his best to "evade and escape." A serious page turner. Not to be missed. As an Air Force F-4 pilot, I was in on several rescues in the same area, and I can tell you this book is right on!
Yankee Station.......2007-09-27
Mr Fields, Yes, heroism was the main theme that came across in your book...heroism and the will to survive! Streetcar 304 shows the frail human qualities that we possess and the heroic qualities that surface in times of need. I don't know who said it but the difference between a hero and a coward is only a few minutes and that is clearly evident in this book! I hope there are plans to make this book into a movie? I have read many books about Vietnam...Bat 21 (both books) Flying Black phonies, Cheating Death, Going Downtown, Escape from Laos and too many more to list...this book is at the top! Fields' use of call signs rather than names was at first troubling but by the end it proved to be the best way so as not to confuse the reader by all the different participants...he then had a glossary at the end with all the actual names...great method! It was well written and very readable...when at the end of your work day, the only thought on your mind is to go home and pick up this book...you know it is a good one!
[...]........2007-09-13
Before you start reading this book, do the laundry, wash the dishes, buy some t.v. dinners, and dig yourself a hole , because you won't stop reading until the end. It is that exciting, well written, funny, sad, adventurous, clever, scary, told in a great voice, vivid, memorable (you'll find yourself thinking about it for days), magical, spiritual, but most of all you live it as you read it. That's a great book. I met the author at the Oceana Air Show in Virginia. What a guy. Holly
Outstanding.......2007-07-12
An incredible story; told extremely well! I had trouble putting it down. As an ex-Navy pilot, my hat is off to the author and the many, many persons who participated in his rescue!
