Challenging Fun.......2007-07-31
Based on a popular feature in the now defunct Life Magazine "Life: Picture Puzzle" has 90 puzzles in which readers look at two pictures of the same thing and try to find the differences between each puzzle. In a few instances, six pictures of the same thing are shown and readers have to find the one puzzle out of the six that has been changed. There are four levels of difficulty: Novice, Master, Expert and genius. For those who like a bit of an extra challenge, the editors suggest a completion time for each puzzle. While long-time readers of Life Magazine may recognize some of the puzzles, the editors reworked them with new changes. In fact, they use some of the same pictures in the book at different levels and with completely different changes.
"Life: Picture Puzzle" is a fun challenging puzzle book. I thought that with 90 puzzles in the book, the more puzzles I solved there would be repetition of the differences and it would be easier to solve the puzzles but that wasn't true. Some of the puzzles did have obvious changes including obvious color changes, but there were many puzzles in which I couldn't find all the changes. Several of the puzzles offer hints to some of the changes in either the title or description of the puzzle. The number of changes in the puzzles range from as little as six changes to as many as 20; the more changes, the harder the puzzle. The editors do a good job of sorting each puzzle into the appropriate level of difficulty. The Novice Section is easy enough and solvers should easily find the first five or six changes in each puzzle while having to search a bit for the last few. The more details in the picture in the puzzle, the harder it is to solve. "Easter Surprise" with six pictures where solvers have to find the different one was a nice change. The Master Puzzles give you more time to solve the puzzle and range from pretty easy to tricky and hard to solve. The easiest ones to solve are the ones where you have to pick the different picture out of six choices. The Expert Puzzles are tricky and tough with lots of subtle changes, some involving color changes. There aren't very many Genius Puzzles but they are indeed very hard, even the two where you have of find the different puzzle out of six. Fittingly, the last puzzle, "Final Exam" is extremely hard, with 20 changes to find. As an added bonus, several of the puzzles have an added change that is not found in the answer section. The book says to go to the Picture Puzzle Section on Life's website, but even though I followed the instructions in the book, I couldn't find the answer section on-line.
"Life: Picture Puzzle" is hours of challenging fun.
Addicted to these!.......2007-07-24
This book is terrific fun, and gives hours of enjoyment if you like to spot the differences between pictures. I really liked the different difficulty levels, so you could really work on improving your skills. I hope there are many more of these type of books available, as I'm addicted to these now.
What fun too !.......2007-05-13
This is a great followup to the original. I wish the book size had stayed the same as the first book. The hardest puzzles were the best. Still fun for both young and old.
Fun and good for the mind.......2007-04-22
These puzzles are entertaining and a good challenge for the brain.
Superb Mental Stimulation.......2007-04-06
Both my wife and I thought the book tremendously entertaining and a wonderful mental exercise. We can't wait for another one to come out.

Jorges cervantes book.......2007-09-22
I had previously owned this book. I find the new one very imformative. I am a medical marijuana patient adn hope to put it to good use.
Marijuana Horticulture: The Indoor/Outdoor Medical Grower's Bible By Jorge Cervantes.......2007-09-13
This is a very informative reference book. It covers many aspects of growing. The information as well as the photographs make this a must have for anyone who wants to grow medicine.
Still Awesome Companion for Video.......2007-08-23
Even though Jeorge Servantez has 2 awesome grow videos out now, this book has everything you need to know, albeit short on hydroponics, however I guess his second movie takes care of this. At any rate, this is a great reference companion for any grower written by one of the top photographers and growers in Europe who also writes for High Times.
Everything ya need to grow some marijuana.......2007-08-23
Ive always been hesitant to buy any 'Grow it Yourself' books. There are so many out there and so many opinions. But for years ive heard references to the 'bible' of growing. Finally broke down and coughed up the dough, and was it sure worth it! Anyone that can follow directions can grow great top of the line quality marijuana!
Buy this book and grow quality not garbage!
A good addition to a grower's library.......2007-08-19
The information in this book is thorough. Lots of stuff to learn for beginners and experienced growers alike. The only criticism I have is the garish design of the book itself. It also could have been several pages lighter if he removed all of the adverts! Advertising does not have a place in a book like this. If you want to make an Appendix at the end with resources and links then fine, but don't make me wade through several pages of ads for seed companies, fertilizers, and grow mediums.
I actually prefer the Greg Green book better, although the information is not as comprehensive as the Cervantes book.
The Cannabis Grow Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing Marijuana for Recreational and Medical Use
I find the two together complement each other quite well...so get both!

#1 National Bestseller!
The amazing inside story about a gambling ring of M.I.T.
students who beat the system in Vegas -- and lived to tell how.
Robin Hood meets the Rat Pack when the best and the brightest of M.I.T.'s math students and engineers take up blackjack under the guidance of an eccentric mastermind. Their small blackjack club develops from an experiment in counting cards on M.I.T.'s campus into a ring of card savants with a system for playing large and winning big. In less than two years they take some of the world's most sophisticated casinos for more than three million dollars. But their success also brings with it the formidable ire of casino owners and launches them into the seedy underworld of corporate Vegas with its private investigators and other violent heavies.
Filled with tense action, high stakes, and incredibly close calls, Bringing Down the House is a nail-biting read that chronicles a real-life Ocean's Eleven. It's one story that Vegas does not want you to read.

"It's Friday night and you're on a red-eye to the city of sin. Strapped to your chest is half a million dollars; in your overnight bag is another twenty-five thousand in blackjack chips; and your wallet holds ten fake IDs. As soon as you land in Las Vegas, you are positive you are being investigated and followed. To top it all off, the IRS is auditing you, someone has been going through your mail -- and you have a multivariable calculus exam on Monday morning. Welcome to the world of an exclusive group of audacious MIT math geniuses who legally took the casinos for over three million dollars -- while still finding time for college keg parties, football games, and final exams. In the midst of the go-go eighties and nineties, a group of overachieving, anarchistic MIT students joined a decades-old underground blackjack club dedicated to counting cards and beating the system at major casinos around the world. While their classmates were working long hours in labs and libraries, the blackjack team traveled weekly to Las Vegas and other glamorous gambling locales, with hundreds of thousands of dollars duct-taped to their bodies. Underwritten by shady investors they would never meet, these kids bet fifty thousand dollars a hand, enjoyed VIP suites and other upscale treats, and partied with showgirls and celebrities. Handpicked by an eccentric mastermind -- a former MIT professor and an obsessive player who had developed a unique system of verbal cues, body signals, and role-playing -- this one ring of card savants earned more than three million dollars from corporate Vegas, making them the object of the casinos' wrath and eventually targets of revenge. Here is their inside story, revealing their secrets for the first time.
Customer Reviews:
Non Fiction.......2007-09-03
A look at the ever growing sophistication of the duel between casinos and the professional card counters who realise that they do, indeed, have an edge at blackjack.
Technology and increased surveillance is slowly and surely bringing this to an end. Where it doesn't, there is still the good old beat up the winners technique if you fancy try it in Uzbekistan or somewhere.
Great Book.......2007-08-04
If you like Vegas, Money, and an awesome time, read this book. I read it in 2 days, and I hardly read.
Dad's fathers day gift.......2007-07-22
Amazon website wouldn't let me type in a zip code; website defaulted the zip based on city name and the zip was incorrect. As a result, package couldn't be delivered. I was issued a full refund (I think).
Fiction.......2007-07-19
A reviewer below who gave this book 5 stars noted that it is a dramatization based on real events. There is a label for those types of books--fiction. It bothers me tremendously that this book is billed as non-fiction and was listed on non-fiction bestseller lists. As soon as it became obvious to me that the book was fiction (which should happen very quickly if you approach the book with any sort of a critical perspective), it became difficult for me to enjoy the book. If you can suspend disbelief and are interested in a story based on events the general framework of which I'm sure are true, then you will probably find this to be a quick, entertaining read.
I get it.......2007-07-08
This is an interesting story, but it would have been better as a feature article in a magazine, not a 257 page book. It was a ballsy thing for these geeks to do, but we didn't need to hear about every trip, and every close call. And where were the serious consequences besides getting banned from casinos, and audited by the IRS? I kept waiting for some real trouble for Kevin.

The Classic Treatise on Coin Manipulation.......2007-04-24
Modern Coin Magic, or the 'Bobo Book', is one of the CLASSICS of coin manipulation and deserves a prominent place in the library of any magician. Thanks to Dover we can avail of this book more than 5 decades after its first publication.
Commencing with the basics of palming, sleeving, concealment, production, vanishes, etc., this book builds on with quick simple 'tricks' to ever more complex routines - including suggestions on patter & mis-direction. Never before have I seen such clarity of explication & illustration in books devoted to sleight of hand. And there is hardly any sleight of coin manipulation that has not been covered in this book. While one can come up with one's own routines based on a thorough mastery of the 'primitives of the trade', the most famous routines of its day have also been documented to the tiniest relevant detail.
However, be warned that a complete mastery of coin manipulation is 'earned' only after hours & hours & hours of practice. This book is not the place to be looking for trivial 'self working' coin tricks (though they may well be in here).
An excellent companion to this book is Expert Card Technique: Close-Up Table Magic which is to Cards as the Bobo book is to Coins.
Overall a MUST HAVE for any budding/practising magician. Highly Recommended.
A great book to learn coin handling..........2007-01-10
This book is great for learning good old fashioned magic. There is a ton of different coin handling techniques. Trick coins will only take you so far, "Modern Coin Magic" will help you to learn the coin skills to amaze your friends and family with any coin. Of course with lots of practice.
Modern Coin Magic.......2006-07-13
This review will be simple and to the point. One of the best coin books you can possible find. By reading it, you won't just gain skills with coins. PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE. Anyway, great book.
Where the best magic is found.......2005-10-28
You find the best magic in books.
To many magicians these days learn from videos and DVD's. While these are useful tools, book are where it is really at. The skill it takes to read a book and put it all together is what makes a magician great.
But you have to find the right books and this is certainly one of them. Every magician worth his salt should have certain books in his library and Bobo's Coin Magic is one of them.

Simply Amazing.......2005-03-03
Although this book is not really "modern" anymore, I found it to be the most comprehensive and helpful book on coin magic that I have ever read. It gives detailed illustrations and step by step instructions (unlike some other books) and is well worth the effort. I definitely reccomend this book as a great buy, especially if you have been looking around on the internet for some coin magic that you can easily learn. There really is no website, but this is a great buy at a great price. Definitely buy this book, whether you are a novice magician or an expereienced one.
Book Description
Orchids are the largest family of plants in the world. With 30,000 known species, you could acquire a different orchid every day for eighty years and still not grow them all. Back in the realm of reality, readers of this beautiful book can quickly and easily find the orchids that are right for them -- which ones will thrive on a windowsill, which prefer artificial lights, and which need a greenhouse; which are for beginners, which for experts. And you can pinpoint the species within a particular genus that are the best ones to start with. Once you select your orchid, William Cullina's authoritative guide explains what to do to keep it alive and healthy. Featuring more than two hundred color photographs, Understanding Orchids covers everything you need to know to grow orchids successfully, whatever your level of interest or experience. With improved tissue-culture techniques making orchids more affordable, and the Internet making them readily available to consumers, growing orchids is more popular than ever: membership in the American Orchid Society has more than doubled in the last fifteen years. This is the book orchid fans have been waiting for.
Customer Reviews:
very practical information.......2007-09-19
This book has alot of practical information and has much more detailed culture information about many different orchid families, also has information about small orchid families that I have not found in any other book about orchids. This book also gives step by step instructions on how to repot or divide several different types of orchids including paphiopediliums and Phrags.
Great book, lots of good ideas and beautiful pictures...........2007-02-10
I am an amateur orchid grower and have read a variety of books on the subject. So far, this is the best book I encountered and the most comprehensive. Not only that, it is a work of art, printed on high quality of paper. The pictures are outstanding and so is the carefully written text. This book is also just loaded with inexpensive ideas on various small projects that you can do to improve your results. If you are going to get one book on orchids, this should be it!
The best.......2007-02-06
I believe that this is the best book out there on orchids. Mr Cullina covers the important and often allusive culture issues confronted in growing orchids in real depth. He provides thoughtful, comon sense explanations for his reccomendations that go way beyond those found in other books I have read on the subject. The second half of the book details the cultural requirements and rates the difficulty level of 100 species of potential interest to growers with experience levels from beginner to expert. Much more than a coffee table book, Understanding Orchids is a valuable reference that belongs in every orchid enthuiast's library.
Friendly and useful.......2006-11-20
As a relatively new orchid grower, I found this to be one of the most useful books for a beginner. In addition, it is written is a very accessible, friendly style, with many examples of the author's struggles to succeed with orchids. I highly recommend it!
A great book for beginners.......2006-11-05
I bought this book as I was starting into the hobby of Orchids. The book is extremely informative on the basics and attempts to discuss common problems people have with Orchids. The most interesting sections are those on potting mediums and the individual orchid varieties commonly found at florists or even the grocery store.
biggest problem with the book is that it seems to convey the idea that any of the solutions will work which is not the case. Successful orchid growing requires an understanding through trial and error of what will work in your home. There are some basic tenants for everyone; however, they get lost in the details.
All in all, it's a great reference book and I would strongly recommend it.

Excellent choice!.......2007-09-20
Excellent little Sodoku book! Easy to carry with you in the car, etc and has some good challenges! My daughter loves it!
Very Good........2007-09-08
It's a good book to work on your lap. I bought two books by accident, but I'm sure I will work both. The paper is good and so are the puzzles.
Fun book.......2007-08-23
This is the 3rd Will Shortz book we have purchased. This book has better quality paper than the others.
Pretty good little book.......2007-08-22
Mostly, I love the spiral binding and hardcover, because I can haul it around on my breaks at work. No more trying to write on my knee without poking my pencil through the paper. But I've done about 1/4th of the puzzles and the back cover has slipped out of the binding twice. So far it's slipped back in pretty easily but it's got me slightly worried.
Great fun.......2007-06-27
This book is everything I thought it would be,and more! Shortz always provides quality puzzling.

This book was interesting. It was very easy to obtain the information I wanted to haelp with air problems. I enjoyed it and would recomend it.
plants with oxygen.......2007-09-06
Love the fact that this book has nice big pictures and explains
everything about the plant.
Have many plant books (from different states lived in) and this one is
very easy to read and understand and I love the pictures.
I'm growing fresh air!.......2007-07-11
Love this book. Exactly what I needed to help me decide which houseplants to buy. This book has plants for different temps, situations, needs, etc. I'm buying a copy for several of my family members. Beautiful on the coffee table too!
Why buy an airpurifier when you can buy plants!.......2007-07-03
Research based information about the value of plants in our homes. Certain plants absorb toxic gases from our carpets, furniture, and other items that can make the air in our homes as bad or worse than outdoors.
A really great book........2007-06-17
The photos are simple, beautiful, and informative. The information for each plant is really helpful, and it's nice to have a chart of which toxins come from which sources. I really enjoyed seeing the different plants and picking a good one for our house (although it was hard for me to track one down and I actually ended up buying seeds for it--I hope they'll grow!). The book is organized pretty intuitively, although navigation might take a little longer if you want to find a particular plant (since they're in order of overall rating rather than alphabetical order, you'd have to either use the index or flip for a while).
The only reason I didn't give the book five stars is that I would make an addition to each individual page with a plant on it: I'd list information about whether the plant is poisonous to humans and their pets. For people who have young children, cats, dogs, and/or other animals in the house (or the clinic, or wherever the plants will be placed), this is an important consideration.

Customer Reviews:
Disappointing and too expensive.......2007-01-10
I was very disappointed with this purchase because very few, if any, of the activities are unique. It's only advantage is that it collates a good number of activities together in one place. However, I don't feel that the price for this collection is worth it given that I found most of these activities on the internet, for free, and on more than one site.
Is this book really worth its pricey tag?.......2002-08-26
After being greatly impressed by the size of the box that this work arrived in I was a little disappointed by the rather cheap looking folder that was contained within. Indoor/Outdoor Team building games for trainers by Harrison Snow is presented in a large triple ring folder that at first glance looks like a standard undergraduate dissertation. However the way the work is presented and the price tag are both justified in the copyright blurb on the very first page.
Indoor/Outdoor is a not just a reference book but a step by step course for those who want to instruct their own team building sessions. As a result the price tag (which is $$more than I am normally comfortable paying for a book) not only buys you the folder but also the right to make photocopies of relevant pages to distribute to those who attend your workshop, and what a workshop it'll be!
Having spent the summer working as an outdoor pursuits instructor I was glad to see many of the best warm ups and ice breakers that I had already learnt succinctly described in a manner that transfers the necessary fun within which all team-building sessions should be framed. There's enough problem solving exercises to keep even the most competent team busy for a least three days and each description is followed by a few generally excellent paragraphs on how to debrief after the exercise. Very few of the exercises need much preparation or investment in equipment and can be attempted by any able bodied person regardless of fitness.
Along with the individual tasks Snow has included a very readable section introducing a few management theories, the need for strong teams and the whole framework of trust, safety and fun within which good workshops must run. He concludes with some exercises that provide a review of the workshop and a few more management theories that are again very well presented.
Like most work on this subject Indoor/Outdoor can occasionally be a little "touchy feely" but never to a nauseating extent. Snow also occasionally makes the assumption that his audience is entirely from the US but although slightly annoying this in no way detracts from the overall excellent quality of his work. I wholeheartedly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in running their own sessions but also recommend that you either practice on your friends or shadow an experienced leader before instructing paying customers.
Poor Value.......2002-01-11
A tremendous disappointment. One of the more expensive Team Building resource publications available and it does not deliver. In many respects, Mr. Snow has authored a well organized, adequately written resource BINDER. A three ring binder and 241 (mostly single sided) pages of information. Sadly, the liabilities completely outweigh the assets of this selection.
Almost every activity may be found in other, significantly less expensive books. Very few activities feature illustrations or diagrams. Even when included, the pictures may not be worth a thousand words. Those unfamiliar with an activity may have difficulty vizualizing some instructions. Which begs the question if you ARE familiar with the activities, why purchase the book?
The only justification I found for the seemingly disproportionate price was the permission granted by the publisher to photocopy the pages of the publication "for use by participants attending a training workshop conducted by the original purchaser." This might be a terrific value for those who provide training of trainer workshops or who have a large staff to train. If you primarily will be solo or co-facilitating team building sequences with various groups this may be of dubious benefit to you.
Bottom line: If Mr. Snow and/or McGraw-Hill republished the binder as a book (at a fraction of the cost), added more visual-aids and you were looking for a solid resource book, it might be a useful resource. In it's present form I'd recommend you keep searching. Karl Rohnke and several others have authored resource books that will provide you with much, much more for much, much less.
Keep searching. . .
Great Hands on edition.......2000-03-29
This book is a wonderful collection of activities that will build and challenge your team. The books is spiral bound so it allows you to "take it with you" and use it wherever your team is. The activites are not just the typical version, they are challenging, exciting, and when used can help you establish a solid foundation. The book is easy to follow and does include some diverse games and activities. No two are alike.

VERY HELPFUL BUT NOTHING NEW.......2007-01-04
A good all purpose book, very useful but nothing new to an experienced reader.
Ed is the man.......2006-05-25
I have been useing Ed's books for years. I follow his column in heads magazine and Cannabis Culture magazine. He knows what he is talking about. This book is the ultimate handbook. It tells you everything you need to know to get a garden started. I think this book is very easy to follow and is a great buy. Theinformation is priceless. I trust Ed and this book.
One of the better ones.......2005-04-07
I read 90% of this book front to back when I first recieved it. It could have been organized better, and yes it did seem to jump around a bit, but it had some quality information that are the building blocks for the best techniques available.
great handbook.......2005-01-11
This is a great starter book for any grower. I still refer to this book many times. The information is great and useful. A book for people who are starting to grow.
Good Presentation - Fair coverage of marijuana topics.......2003-06-05
This is an okay reference book. I found this book easier to navigate than Indoor marijuana Horticulture by Jorge Cervantes which is packed with information but not well presented. Between both of these guides I was able to improve on my cultivation techniques but there are gaps still not covered by both works. If you find yourself in this kind of a situation then I recommend that you look for normal botany books on growing. I have a collection of other readings which helped. You might have to go down that route too.
Well worth the read but you will need much more than just these two books.

Setting the Record Straight.......2006-07-06
I just wanted to reply to J. Schachter's "The Critic" review of this book, which is spotlighted above. Not only did he omit some crucial info about Jorge's book, but his own statements have been proven false this year.
We now know the US government IS tracking "our every click" on the Internet. He also omitted Jorge's good suggestion that all marijuana growers using the Internet to post about their grows should use a PROXY SERVER. That is how he says to avoid big brother looking over your shoulder, not just getting a hotmail account.
So Jorge was NOT wrong in his statements, but it is indeed this "critic" (who has never reviewed anything else on Amazon.com), who is wrong.
I am an IT professional as well and can say that Jorge's statements regarding the Internet DO BELONG in his book (since so many growers use the Internet to exchange information), and are good tips. It seems the "critic" has an axe to grind since he couldn't be bothered to discuss the main content of the book which is about growing marijuana.
it's an OK guide BUT .......2005-04-02
okay all the typos and grammatical errors got to me too. this book has a lot of good information BUT I too, found incorrect information. Cervantes also contradicts himself a lot because in his articles in high times grow magazine, he says things that are total opposites from the book. i prefer his articles to this book BUT it did have some information that i found helpful. there has to be better stuff out there though.
The definitive indoor grow guide .......2005-02-22
In 1983 when I first became interested in the subject this book was the definitive indoor grow guide and it still is today and I like Mr. Cervantes style too instead of writing several books and you have too buy them all to find all the information you need he writes one complete book and updates it every few years with new stuff keep up the good work.
Terrible.......2005-02-09
This book reads like it was written by a 4th grader. I threw this in the garbage after the first few chapters. There is information in it that I know to be completely wrong, so how could I trust the rest of the information?
The book gets basic facts wrong, things that are easily verifiable to anyone who has an Internet connection. The first part of the book, for some reason, gives you a short history on the Internet, but almost everything in that section is completely wrong.
For example, the author says that the Internet was designed by the government to track your every click, and you can make yourself anonymous by getting a firewall and a hotmail account. Rediculous!
Every paragraph has basic spelling and grammatical errors, making this book difficult to read. The author jumps around topics incoherently, and makes references to things that aren't fully explained.
Save your money and get a better book. This one is a JOKE.
Not worth the heavy price tag.......2004-08-31
This is a two star read for a few reasons. You might not know that it is from the eighties when this book first came out with some updates. The author does not cover any fluorescent lights at all which I think is crazy because these are important for young seedlings and clones. The hydroponics designs are from old nineteen seventies systems that no one uses any more and neither do I. The author says that clones degrade the more you take clones from a clone and then builds a breeding section around this mistake. The nutrient feeding techniques are sometimes untested. The author actually reprints the same mistake that marijuana book author Ed Rosenthal made for solving Mg problems. Do not use the Mg solver. It usually causes lock out and also over feeds them. Only one harvesting method is given out of a possible three or four that you could do. The problem solving plant nutrient problem pictures are interesting to look at in the book and probably the reason to get this book, but do not solve the problem just by identification using these illustrations. You would do better to pay attention to your feeding schedule and nutrient content. Mistakes can be forgiven but this update is not an improvement on the previous book. The shabby design gives the impression that it was done quickly and cheaply. The photographs are not bad but far from quality. There are frequent spelling mistakes and a lot of noise between the pages that brings down the quality of this read considerably. You would do better to make sure that you read up on other books if you decide to try this one out. It will be interesting to keep a copy of this one around just to compare it to the next update because this author needs to change quite an awful lot of the material here. This is a poor update that strongly needs revision.
