Book Description
Molecular Biology of the Cell is the classic in-depth text reference in cell biology. By extracting the fundamental concepts from this enormous and ever-growing field, the authors tell the story of cell biology, and create a coherent framework through which non-expert readers may approach the subject. Written in clear and concise language, and beautifully illustrated, the book is enjoyable to read, and it provides a clear sense of the excitement of modern biology. Molecular Biology of the Cell sets forth the current understanding of cell biology (completely updated as of Autumn 2001), and it explores the intriguing implications and possibilities of the great deal that remains unknown.
The hallmark features of previous editions continue in the Fourth Edition. The book is designed with a clean and open, single-column layout. The art program maintains a completely consistent format and style, and includes over 1,600 photographs, electron micrographs, and original drawings by the authors. Clear and concise concept headings introduce each section. Every chapter contains extensive references. Most important, every chapter has been subjected to a rigorous, collaborative revision process where, in addition to incorporating comments from expert reviewers, each co-author reads and reviews the other authors' prose. The result is a truly integrated work with a single authorial voice.

bio book.......2007-09-15
the book is amazing. i got it in great shape, and aside from it weighing 7 lbs...it's a great book for a biology class.
Best Science Book I've Ever Read.......2007-07-09
If you are taking a cell biology book, this is the book to read. Even if your instructor assigns a lighter book, you can still read this and benefit. It's one of those rare books that go into the details while still being readible. It's incredibly well organized and well written.
A thousand carats text!.......2007-06-27
The undeniable importance of the molecular biology has achieved in the last two decades such transcendental outburst of energy, advances and extraordinary finfings that hardly we should devote entirely to be informed about the multiple consequences of its profound implications.
This book is a true effort worthy to admire, because it has been written with this kind spirit of sharing the knowledge wothout pretensions or any other considerations.
Once you open it, you will be absoltely engaged due its relevant interest, because of the fact there`s a lot of secondnary readings and discoveries all over the world that it should be be stated of this way. May one not being aware about the structure of the cell and the mesmerizing devices the nature employs to show us its lavish dynamics.
Additionally the support material of this CD ROM simply is priceless. I insist, you don't need to be an expert in this issue to start.
Decide by yourself and please, dont wait so long.
Molecurar biology of the cell.......2007-05-18
It's a very complete and updated book about all items refered to molecular biology of the cell. I specially use it for all the information I need for the 1st year of Medicine School.
Very recomendable
This book is awesome........2007-05-17
It really gets you into the bioscientific mind type of reasoning.
Book Description
The CPA exam is changing. You need to change as well...to a book that better prepares you for the CPA exam and for business. This is the only book of its kind that demonstrates how to prepare financial reports and then how to analyze what those numbers really mean.
Every manager has incentives to present his or her firm in the most favorable light to lenders, equity investors and others. And, every manager wants to use the flexibility allowed by GAAP to manage the firm's earnings to achieve certain goals. Revsine, Collins, and Johnson
explain these incentives and help readers spot cases of earnings management, which disguises a firm's true performance.
For anyone preparing to take the CPA exam, and for anyone who wants or needs a working knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, and financial statement analysis.
Customer Reviews:
Almost everything I dislike in a textbook.......2006-05-08
This book has many characteristics that I really dislike to see in a textbook.
First, the authors flooded almost every page with extraneous information. When you're learning this stuff, you want it to be explained simply and clearly - but the authors seem more intent on showing you how much they know about some topic, even when that information is tangenital and not very helpful.
They don't word things clearly. They'll call the same thing by two different names - (i.e. "Pension Cost" and "Pension Expense") which needlessly adds to the confusion. They'll discuss some topic for several pages without even writing down the basic, relevant journal entry.
One of the wordiest, most poorly written accounting books I have ever had the displeasure of studying from.
One of the better books available.......2003-09-30
This publication provides a thorough and comprehensive review of almost every important aspect of accounting, financial analytics and reporting. A useful tool for a person new to finance or someone needing a refresh or review of important topics. A solutions manual would have been helpful, but the book is a valuable buy nonetheless.
Very good for understanding the subject.......2002-03-10
The book provides very clear explanations about different aspects of financial statement analysis. The only drawbacks are that the book is a little simplistic and that problem solutions are sorely needed. However, I am sure you are not going to use oit for self-study- you would be using it as a textbook in a financial statement analysis class. The professor, would be able to provide you with solutions (as in my case- thanks Dr. Church!) and will also help you out with some of the tougher stuff. Whatever, the book does an excellent job in explaining the basic stuff- much better than the Sondhi book.
agree with others - needs solutions manual - useless without.......2001-09-27
I agree with those that say this book would be more useful if it came with solutions. Right off in the first chapter, hypothetical situations are presented without any background information in the text. If you haven't had some experience in Accounting, you are going to be left scratching your head. The instructor in my class says that it causes you to think. Hard to think if you have never come close to experiencing anything that is being discussed. Some guidance would be helpful.
Useless without a Solutions Manual.......2001-03-23
I'm studying for the CPA. I bought the book because it's required for a course in school. But to actually learn for the CPA exam, I'll toss this one aside for one that provides a solutions manual. Authors who withold the manual for the instructors benefit miss a fundamental point about economics - who the customer is. It's the student that the book is written for and it is the student who pays for the course. Breffni University of Chicago

Book Description
Essential Cell Biology, Second Edition contains basic, core knowledge about how cells work. It has a proven track record in providing students with a conceptual and accessible grounding in cell biology. The text and figures have been prepared to be easy-to-follow, accurate, clear and engaging for the introductory student. Each section follows logically from the previous one, telling a story, rather than being a collection of facts. Questions integrated throughout each chapter encourage the reader to pause, think about what they have read, and attempt to apply the new knowledge in ways that test their understanding. Based on user feedback, the Second Edition now offers increased coverage of genetics and more experimental background. It is completely up-to-date.

Mwentzler.......2007-09-27
Is an read easy and understandable read. Explains all topics very thoroughly yet in a clear concise manner especially for a biology text book.
Very good book.......2007-09-24
It's kind of hard to judge a textbook, especially when you're a student. But i can honestly say that this book is very straight forward. The diagrams are great, and especially if you read the diagrams as you're reading the book, they add a lot of depth and diversity to the reading. The text itself is not mundane...you won't fall asleep reading it. The CD it comes with is nice....but i tend not to use it that much...all it is, is just video clips. Overall i'd say this is one of the best, if not THE best, biology book i've used.
HOWEVER! Remember that this IS a bio book and it DOES get a little tedious at points
Cell Biology made clear.......2007-03-08
Great book. Although not a basic book, this text make many aspects of cell biology very clear. I would highly recommend it.
Essential Cell Biology 2nd Ed........2006-11-06
This is probably one of the best cell biology books out there. It's easy to understand, covers all the basics, and the CD included with it has really helpful videos.
Fine book, for whatever it matters.......2006-02-28
The book is decent. To be honest though, reviewing textbooks is kind of funny. Does it matter what I say? I suppose if you're ordering this book because you honestly just have a burning desire to learn about essential cell biology, well... the more power to you. You'll learn it just fine from this book. If you're just buying the book because it's the required text for your college class (like I expect), well yeah, doesn't really matter what I say, does it?

Customer Reviews:
Descent but not perfect..........2007-10-02
This is a good book. While it production values are nothing like many other books in the series, it still has a lot of interesting information. Specifically, there are a myriad number of feats that make playing a forsaken character far easier. There are also feats that lend a greater feeling to interacting with spirits. Several of the prestige classes are good. How ever, some seem redundant, like the fact that they have shadow hunters and spirit champions, both of which fulfill a similar theme. The monster classes in the book are a tad over power (ie the ogre mage). All in all I found it useful.
For the Horde.......2007-07-03
This book delves into the rich background and history of the primary Horde races - namely orc, tauren and (forest) troll and it accomplishes this feat surprisingly well, while also introducing other playable races like the half-ogre, half-orc and abomination.
You will also find several horde only prestige classes like the Lightslayer, Plagueshifter and Shadow Ascendant along with new magic items (e.g. kodo helm of devouring & wyvern tamer gloves), tech-devices (e.g. doubleslammer, totem wings) and feats. The book is well worth the purchase if you are a fan of the horde, if you plan to enrichen your WoW rpg experience or if you want more credible foes for your Alliance themed game. Enjoy!
Not Part of the online WOW game........2007-02-07
It is a nice book. It takes me back to the days in 1978 when I learned to play dugeons and dragons using a paper and pencil.
But I was looking for a book to help me with the online version of World of Warcraft. And this is not the right book for that.
It does give some of the background information on the storyline. It was just the wrong book for my needs.
Excellent title!.......2007-01-12
Very well written and essential for fans of the setting. The tabletop opens vistas heretofore inaccessible. Combined with Lands of Mystery, this book is invaluable for running a Kalimdor campaign.

Just for class.......2007-02-06
I needed this book for class.. So I think the chapters are a little lengthy... I get bored really quick and this put me right to sleep.
I am not an author just a student.
Excellent Text.......2007-01-30
I bought this book for a course in Health Care Human Resources. I think it is easy to read. However, many of the factors just focus on nursing issues. Not too many other issues are mentioned.
Book Description
The real estate boom has come and gone. The stock market is always a risky business. Today the smart money is in antiques and collectibles: you don't need much to get started, and the market for everything from furniture to folk art, from bottles to baseball cards, is just beginning to explode!
Bruce Johnson, the expert called the "Dear Abby" of antiques, shows how you can turn today's bargains and discounts into tomorrow's hot money-making deals. Here are hundreds of inside tips that show you how to:
-- Get in on the bottom floor before prices begin to go through the roof
-- Enter the business without a formal education or a sizable investment
-- Expand your operation and increase your income without taking time away from your present job
-- Find the best sales, the best days to attend, and the best deals
-- Negotiate bargains with dealers -- and beat them at their own game
-- Create print ads for your wares that will pull in customers eager to buy
-- Sell your treasures at a profit from your home, or at flea markets, yard and garage sales, auctions, and antique malls
Plus:
More than thirty antiques-related services you can run from your home, including caning, appraising, and refinishing.
Customer Reviews:
Dated but there's still lots of good advice here.......2007-04-08
Like other reviewers have said, this book doesn't take into account the Internet factor. But there's still lots of good advice in this book that hasn't changed: What to look for, how to negotiate, and how to get to the good stuff first. These gems will be good for the next century and beyond--as long as people hold yard/garage/tag sales and people use automobiles for travel.
If you want eBay advice, there are hundreds of other books that give you that. But I haven't found one of those books yet that contains the good old-fashioned advice this book has. Plus, some of the old-fashioned salesmanship advice in this book translates well to online venues.
This book reads quickly (read for about an hour before bed and you'll have it knocked out in less than a week), it's entertaining, and it's inexpensive. Pay the cover price plus shipping and it'll still cost you less than $10. You'll probably make your 10 bucks back the Saturday after you finish it. I did.
Antiquated.......2006-03-21
Without a fresh look at the marketplace, this book is completely outdated. While you may glean some "useful" information, this book resides in the mid to late 80's and fails to take into account 20 years of change with the advent of technology and the Internet.
The Internet has changed everything, including how sellers perceive the goods they have. Values, frequently updated online and in current specialty books change the buyers methods of approaching the areas the author suggest for purchasing merchandise.
My premise in reviewing this book includes Johnson's suggestions about garage sales, antique dealers, shops, auctions and dealer shows. I am experienced in all methods of acquiring merchandise for resale online and in newspaper ads. Sellers have a better database of information and use this to gain their advantage. With that said, because of increased competition and the Internet, deals can be had if you find the motivated seller.
The same tools available to sellers should be used by serious buyers/resellers. You must research your niche thoroughly and be armed with information and knowledge so you can get the best price. Use completed online auctions and start a library of books on the information you need.
Having some negotiating skills is important but knowledge is king. Armed with prices your willing to pay to make a return on your investment is number one. Using your time efficiently will help you obtain merchandise to sell quickly to turn over cash to keep your enterprise moving.
Johnson's book can set you on a course of where to find goods but you must visit these places in a learning capacity based on the world of information technology, which is critical and not discussed in this book. You must learn to use the Internet because the sellers are using it to estimate values and profits. Many undersell merchandise and their ignorance is your potential bonanza.
Another example is the abundance of Antique Malls, which have become prevalent and are very commercialized. These places generally have zero negotiating room since the sellers aren't present. The items for sale are usually set at top value or beyond and purchasing from these outlets won't provide you with leverage to make a profit.
Smaller antique shops with vendor booths are more reliable yet still priced very high. Once again the person in the store is not the individual selling everything so it's difficult to negotiate a fair price or come in contact with the actual seller. If you can find smaller venues it's possible vendors are occasionally present or nearby, which will provide an opportunity to negotiate. Sellers are usually willing to lower their prices in my experience, especially when you tell them you're a dealer.
Garage sales are good sources, especially if you visit block sales with each house in a community selling items. It's efficient and you may still find some gems. It's tough work but remains a fairly good source and you can negotiate asking prices downward.
Placing ads on Craig's list is a valuable method in obtaining goods. Once again, this method won't be mentioned in Johnson's book because of age.
Online auctions and online malls are a valuable source of finding good deals for items in your niche. Because Johnson's book has not been updated this method is not listed. It's easy and more efficient to find what your looking for in search engines and most times you can deal directly with the seller. You have more control and accessibility to purchase adequate inventory. You're also armed with information and your top-purchasing price.
Buy this book on the cheap only to gather some very basic and rudimentary information if you haven't any knowledge on how to get started. Find your niche, purchase specialty books to perfect your knowledge and test out the area's Johnson recommends. Live auctions are the best "offline" source to work and Johnson provides some basic information on terms used at auctions. Don't get caught up in emotions or competition at lives auctions, stick to your predetermined price and don't budge. Do your homework ahead of time.
It takes sweat equity as well as an investment. Keep good records, as suggested in the book and implement technology. It's takes time, patience and consistency but a part-time business can eventually become full-time.
Save your money.......2006-02-22
While some of the information was helpful in a very general sense, much of it was outdated and unrealistic. Overall, not a particularly useful book.
A Good Place to Start.......2005-12-03
If you are interested in getting into the Antiques and Collectibles market, this book gives some good starter tips, even though it is rather old. While it does not cover the incredibly expanding online and auction market, it is a good source for tips on where to find inventory, how to purchase inventory, how to set up a B&M shop/mall space, and how to be "antique" savvy.
Take with a grain of salt.......2005-04-23
Overall not a bad book as there is a shortage of books to tell you how to actually get into the business of antiques. It desperately needs updating; it has no mention of ebay or other Internet sources. I didn't like the authors advocation of rude behaviour at garage sales and other venues in pursuit of a "deal" or his obvious mistrust of auctioneers. Perhaps it's a regional thing. Don't make it your only source and read with an open mind. Take the good, leave the bad, and get some good books on sales, marketing, and small business to go along with your technical antiques books.
Book Description
Oaks of California, the first book ever devoted to the state's native oaks, celebrates the unique place of these trees in California's natural and cultural heritage.
Winner of the 1992 Benjamin Franklin Award for best "Regional" book, this title continues to be the definitive popular guide to California's most emblematic tree species.
Customer Reviews:
Beautiful.......2006-01-31
Living in California oak country, I have searched for just such a book to help learn about these beautiful trees. This is the best information I've found.
Beautiful and useful.......2003-02-18
If you are used to books with line drawing of leaves that make it impossible to use as a reference, then you will love this book. It is a great study as well as a beauty. If you only have one book on the Oaks of California, this should be it. If you have many books on Oaks, this is still going to be one of the most used. Useful and beautiful!
If you love California's oaks..........2002-10-15
this is a magnificent book. I just cannot get over the glory of the native oaks and this book captures that glory well. It covers all native species with a nice amount of detail. The photographs are beautiful. What I actually found the most intriguing was the great history the authors provide on the oaks, and the incredible ecosystem that depends on their existence. The book even provides information on parks and drives statewide where mature native oaks can be visited. I have had this book for many months now and it is one I continually pick up again and again. It inspired me to plant several native oaks at home and take inpeccable care of the one large oak (treasure) that came as an added bonus to a beautiful old home.
A nice book.......2002-05-27
I bought this book, on sale no less, at the Hearst Castle gift shop. I find it to be well written and informative with many pleasing pictures of California's native oaks. For any Californian interested in the natural sciences, this book deserves a place on your bookshelf between Lanner's "Conifers of Califonia" and Dave Arora's "Mushrooms Demystified".
Absolutely Worth It!.......2001-09-11
This book is a marvelous compendium on the numerous variety of native Californian oaks. The authors amaze you with information about the oaks, and pictures that are stunning. The charts of flora and fauna species associated with oaks in the back are worth the price.--which by the way is ... cheaper than on other websites! This book makes a fabulous gift for any Californian in the oak region, living abroad and homesick, or any Californian traveling abroad and wishing to take with them a gift that uniquely expresses what is a quintessential icon of their native state.

Book Description
A Companion to Cultural Geography brings together original contributions from 40 distinguished international scholars to provide a critical overview of this dynamic and influential field of study. The volume starts by charting the most significant changes in cultural geography in the twentieth century before going on to introduce the principal approaches animating work in the field today. These theoretical approaches are then grounded in a series of essays on the major thematic areas to which cultural geographers have contributed ---nature, identity, landscape, colonialism, and post-colonialism.The Companion will be a valuable resource not just for geographers but also for those working in allied fields who seek a clear understanding of the contribution that geography is making to cross-disciplinary debates.
Customer Reviews:
Good, but not great.......2004-11-27
As a cultural geographer I have found this book to be very useful as a basis for arguments. Duncan, Johnson and Schein are very well respected members of the Geography community and bring to this collection of essays scholarly prestige. The topics covered in this book are wide ranging in the field of cultural geography and touch on the main sub-sub fields such as religious geography and political geography which seem to fall through the cracks in terms of compiled essay books. The material is very current and draws on the ideas of important members of each sub field. All in all this is a very useful book for general knowledge. I would recommend this text to teachers, and students of cultural geography. The main drawback of this text is the cost. For such amazing work that really needs to be made widely available to the public the cost is very prohibitive. All in all very well done.
