2 out of 5 stars For beginners only.......2007-07-14

For true beginners, I'm sure this has value. For anyone who has been doing yoga, the Kabbalah, whatever, for years, this book is old news. Very few exercises are included, and it's too short to help anyone on a more advanced path, IMO.

5 out of 5 stars Very Insightful.......2007-07-12

I really got a lot from reading this book. I helped me connect with, identify, and disperse the energies I had already been feeling.... It is great for those who have never heard of the chakras. I would definitely recommend this book to any mature reader.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent "for beginners" book!.......2007-07-05

This book is simply excellent! It is written in an easy to understand language with some helpfull exercises and lot of notes that you can put in good use practicing yourself! I highly recommed it to any beginner or non-beginner that wishes to know a little bit more about Chakras, their balanced and unbalanced state, how to balance with trivial solutions (this solutions are so simple and plain that it is impossible to imagine that they actually work.. and let me tell that they work!). Short, Simple, and Rich in information is the best description of this Book!

4 out of 5 stars Just the introduction I was looking for!.......2005-11-01

I have practiced yoga regularly for several years now, and this has led to an interest in exploring the chakras, the seven "energy centers" of the body. I was able to obtain some basic information online, but I wanted a book which would provide more details as well as exercises--hopefully incorporating yoga--which would focus on balancing the energy of the chakras. Happily, this book met my needs very well.

After offering an overview of the chakras and the importance of keeping them balance, author David Pond addresses each of the seven chakras individually. In particular, he describes both the balance and unbalanced perspectives of each chakra as well as offers several exercises both for connecting with that chakra and awakening the energy contained within. Some of the exercises do contain suggestions for yoga--i.e., performing tree pose to attain balance--but most of them are more meditative in nature.

In the second half of the book, Pond presents a selection of "Essays," which are basically short chapters (2-3 pages on average) about the relationship between the chakras and other issues, including the ego, vows, negative energy, visualization, and other similar topics. I found this section to be less helpful, as here, Pond's tendency towards new-age thinking (he is an astrologer by profession, after all) became a bit too much for my tastes. However, he concludes the book with additional exercises, meditations, and a chakra chart, all of which I found useful. All-in-all, this is a very nice introductory book about chakras which provides good basic information as well as easy-to-follow meditative exercises.

5 out of 5 stars excellent introduction to chakras.......2005-06-21

I have read many books on chakras, and this one really stands out in its ability to relay concepts with Simplicity and Clarity, which renders them more accessible to most readers. His meditations are pleasant, and I hope he writes more of them for us in the future.

Thank you, David Pond.

Book Description

The Diamond in Your Pocket, the first major book release from Gangaji, describes our ever-ending search to find fulfillment, which, paradoxically, already exists if we will only stop long enough to discover its true source. Now, this modern-day classic is available in two new formats: paperback and a multi-CD audio recording in the author's own voice. "I have discovered that it is actually impossible to find happiness," teaches Gangaji. "As long as you are seeking to find happiness somewhere, you are overlooking where happiness is ... in your true nature." With The Diamond in Your Pocket, the American-born teacher who has influenced the lives of thousands through her retreats and public events helps us to reconcile the observations and questions that arise along the spiritual path. Like a precious gem, The Diamond in Your Pocket cuts through what is false, and illuminates what is true--a brilliant series of contemplations and insights you will want to hold dear and return to again and again. Gangaji shows us thought-by-thought how to stop the endless activity of our minds, and experience the brilliance and radiance of who we really are in every present moment.

4 out of 5 stars Very articulate, cuts to the chase.......2007-09-25

I would never be naive enough to think one "Way" or one author has all of the answers we seek in life as humans. One needs to explore the mystery to find the truth on their own terms. Be skeptical as all hell. Don't believe anyone unless it feels genuine. For instance, Wayne Dyer seems phony to me, but beloved my millions. I don't like to critique his teachings because I'm sure he's helped many people. I personally like Buddhist and Toltec teachings. Thick Nhat Hahn isn't flying around in personal jets. I don't know much about Gangjani, and have read a little about her extravagant lifestyle. But I found the Diamond in Your Pocket keenly articulate. Maybe you can critique the author, but the message resonates magically.

1 out of 5 stars Tired Regurgitation from the Spiritually Bankrupt.......2007-09-09

This book gets one star for the long hours that the misguided devotee spent writing it and then attaching Gangaji's name to it. The content is a rehash of every other book that she purported to write. Much of the text is plagiarized from Vedic philosophy and twists the teachings of Ramana Maharshi to support a watered down version of that which is most Sacred. This is very appealing to western culture. Stop the search, don't follow thoughts, and you will find instant enlightenment. None of the great sages over the centuries from which she claims to quote have endorsed a quick and easy path to self-realization. This book falls woefully short of providing any substantive guidance to Self.

Even the title, "Diamond in Your Pocket", misses the mark in trying to describe the most imperative issues around your soul being incarnate and reduces it to something valuable in your pocket. It smacks of materialism. Is she trying to talk about actually being self aware?!! The rest of the book contains short platitudes that suggests that there is no effort required to reach self-realization and no need to devote one's life to understanding the most crucial questions.

Bless all those who still can't see through the hypnotic trance that is needed to accept this kind of drivel. And may they begin to see that they are supporting the extravagant lifestyle of snake oil saleswoman.

For those truly searching, I suggest any books by Pema Chodren or Thich Nhat Hanh. I would also suggest actually reading Bhagavad-Gita or the Diamond Sutra instead of taking the words of this so called teacher at face value.

5 out of 5 stars If stranded in an Island.......2007-07-30

The most powerfull and clear book in life, beautifully words. May You find yourself by not trying ....

3 out of 5 stars Great message, but weak delivery.......2007-07-28

I give this book 3 stars not because it was bad, but because I was dissappointed I could not take anything from it. The message of silencing thoughts to discover ones true self has been around for years, and explained better, and even delivered more poetically with more tranformative power, from countless other authors. I have no problem with repeating a message, but at least add a new perspective or something useful to it.
Since many people seem to really value this book, judging by the reviews, I will list a couple of my favourites here. If you enjoyed Gangaji's message, please look into these other authors for further perspective. Also, if you are familiar with these other authors, and think my assessment is wrong, it will be an easier decision to disregard my reveiw : )
For a completely non-affiliated and challenging take on this message, I love the Osho books. Those of you that are offended by his comments on established religion, or think that he is a kook for his lifestyle, and therefore disregard what he has to say, would most likely disagree with any of my assessments as well. Look him up on Youtube.com. If you like that, buy his "Autobiography of a spiritually incorrect mystic", and take it from there.
For a more spiritual take, I think that Nisargadatta Maharaj and Paramahansa Yogananda have some excellent views as well.
The only thing I would warn against is getting too involved with any of the groups that "carry on the legacy" of any of these authors, or any other that seem too eager to sell and/or bring you into your group. I think that they are somewhat missing the point. At least don't jump into anything, you can go plenty far on your own.
All in all, not a bad book for an introduction to an uplifting perspective, but will disappoint if you have heard similar stories before, nothing new here. Good luck.

5 out of 5 stars "She had to learn it for herself." - The Good Witch Glinda, from The Wizard of Oz.......2007-06-30

I love this book. I'm treating it as sacred and only read it when I'm in my deepest moods. I love how the material does not pander to religious thought. I love how it corresponds to similar things I've read by Osho. I'm just coming through a long-term illness, regaining feeling on the left side of my head and body. So my challenge is to keep myself centered and grounded in moment-to-moment life again. Sometimes that means stopping and resting.

Prior to this period I was too busy being "psychic", feeling other people's feelings for them. Eventually my body quit feeling and became like rock. Once you are down, it is very easy for others to keep you there and break you. Cyclone-emotions like jealousy, possessiveness and anger are often directed at someone who smiles and speaks from the spirit. I allowed these things to chase me down like some kind of Wicked Witch. I almost died. I don't celebrate that Yellow Brick Road. When does the journey stop? Since I'm affected neurologically, I must accept my condition and learn how to STOP and just BE. According to Gangaji! What I celebrate is that my soul carried me through a forest of doctors, meds, public ignorance, officials who wouldn't believe or assist me, the betrayal of false friends, the loss of my beloved pet, etc! I lived through it. It's taken 7 years and now I'm 47. Now what?

Now is the time to truly see how polarized people are, and give myself permission to just BE in my Ruby Slippers. (Yes, I'm still writing about Gangaji's book!) ; ) There is no need to look for platforms or Wizards or fancy balloons where I could display myself and my "wisdom". Nor do I need anyone to insure my way Home. It's such a relief! I always knew those efforts were over-reaching and fake. I get to drop the habits, the compulsion to control and fix things and people (the way I was coached to do on my job). I'm turning myself over to MY OWN TRUTH. Wow! I'm coming Home.

Gangaji gives an eloquent explanation on how to get here, and be in the truth; how to see there are relative (polarized) truths, vs the eternal truth. This is huge! Psychic people usually get caught up in other's dramas, esp sexual dramas, at the expense of having lives of their own. Those truths pale in comparison to what is timeless and valuable - one's personal peace, well-being and good health. These qualities are not just confined to a body. So, this is a wonderful book to share with others who are limited by their bodies. We are spirit, and as a species, it is unnatural and perverse for us to be divided. When does the drama stop and the unity begin? This book puts forth the teachings, showing us that what we really want is to SHINE. So it is time to wake up, Dorothy! Because this IS a real place, and this IS the rainbow we are all looking to get over!

I'm only 1/3 of the way into this book, and feel vastly empowered. I LOVE being able to command a new world for myself. Silly dreamer that I am, I thought I lost all hope until now. But I feel hope for myself, and for the world and my place here. I can allow it to become divine. I'm just here, hanging out on top of the Rainbow with my special diamond. But perhaps you need someone to tell you? This is a real place, and we all have the ability to share it. And don't we all yearn for this? It's only just emerging as a new feeling of freedom I never quite appreciated when I was young (and dumb). The diamond we all carry is the freedom we hide deep down, which wants so much to come out and just shine, and to touch all things and all beings. It doesn't have the fanfare of what we know; it's strange, and beautiful, and feels real. It has presence. It is powerful. It belongs to no one, and everyone; because it's about the freedom of belonging. Like the Good Witch Glinda, Gangaji has a way of putting human character defects and pain into perspective. She knows we all yearn for Home, we just have to be willing to learn it for ourselves. She absolutely knows we can make it happen! Don't you find that exciting? Thank You, Gangaji! I love it!

5 out of 5 stars Understanding.......2001-12-06

Thomas Cleary has done us a great service by translating and/or collecting these works. He is a man of understanding and insight and these three volumes will threaten to make any reader who takes them seriously the same.

Any person who deals with anybody in any way should endeavor to grasp these fine works of wisdom. Not to do so is a mistake. As Confucius said, "If a mistake is not corrected, that is called a mistake."

5 out of 5 stars Great reading for anybody interested in leadership.......2001-03-06

Anyone interested in learning about leadership should go back to the classics. Clearly has done a great job putting together a collection of the most influencial eastern classics in three volumes. The five classics included in this volume present crucial aspects of human development and empowerment. The most insighful readings in my opinion are thunder in the Sky and The Book of the Five Rings. The first one talks about the skills and behavior of succesful leaders, while the second one deals with the art of confrontation and victory. Clearly's comments are very good in providing insights about the reading. My last recommendation is to start with the first volume: The Art of War by Sun Tzu.

Product Description

`History: Fiction or Science? Chronology 2` is the second volume of the most explosive and astounding tractate on history ever written - however, every theory it contains, no matter how unorthodox, is backed by rock solid scientific data. The book is easy and pleasant to read; it is well-illustrated, contains hundreds of charts, graphs and illustrations, copies of ancient manuscripts, and countless facts attesting to the falsity of the chronology used nowadays. You will be amazed to discover: - That the chronology universally accepted today and taken for granted is simply wrong; - That ALL methods of dating of ancient sources and artefacts known today are erroneous or non-exact; - That there is not a single document that could be reliably dated earlier than the XIth century; The Author refers to the Middle Ages as the “Antiquity” and proves mutual superimposition of the Second and the Third Roman Empire, both of which become identified as the respective kingdoms of Israel and Judah. Furthermore, he asserts that the famous reform of the Occidental Church in the XI century by “Pope Gregory Hildebrand” was the reflection of the XII century reforms of Byzantine emperor Andronicus who in his turn identifies with Jesus Christ. The Trojan war counted by Homer happened only as late as of the XIII century A.D. and the great poet actually lived in XIV century A.D. No stone in history of Antiquity is left unturned. Literally. This book is the beginning of a major correction to the chronology we live with.

I don't care what other people say of this book. Those affirmig it's fake, they hadn't ever read it. Or have some special reasons to do so. "Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see..." This book won't make you feel comfortable. It'll make you feel free. It'll make you feel you're "not the only one" to feel you'd been lied to for centuries.

5 out of 5 stars Suprise! Suprise!.......2007-03-22

Here is a serie of books which turns "the whole world" upside down. I learned a lot of it and I hope that a new book from A.T. Fomenko will follow very quick. A absolute must for everybody who is interested in history or even a little bit from it.

5 out of 5 stars Prescient St Augustine?.......2006-02-05

We can so far divide the New Chronology into the following three parts:

a) The verifiable theory that proves consensual chronology wrong with the aid of astronomy, statistics and mathematics;

b) The new chronology hypothesis based on a new understanding of known historical facts and the most likely logical explanation of the most obvious inconsistencies inherent in the official version of history;

c) The history conjectures, that is experimental historical reconstructions based on assumptions that the authors believe to make sense in the light of their research and linguistic parallels - void of ironclad factual support to date.

Fomenko's theory complies with the most rigid scientific standards as a whole:

It gives a coherent explanation of what we already know.

- It is consistent: independent lines of inquiry all lead to the same conclusion.

- The predictions it makes are confirmed empirically.

Fomenko goes by the following axioms:

- Chronology is the basis of history;

- Human evolution has always been linear, gradual and irreversible;

- The "cyclic" nature of human civilization is a myth, likewise all the gaps, duplicates, "dark ages" and "renaissances" that we know from consensual history;

- The accumulation of geographical knowledge as reflected in cartography is a gradual and irreversible process;

- The chronological distance between a given manuscript and the events described therein is proportional to the amount of distortions it contains;

- There is no "useless" information in authentic ancient sources.

Why the mainstream historians do not shower mathematician Academician Dr.Prof Fomenko with thanks and laurels?

The Russians:

Because Fomenko asserts that there was no such thing as the Tartar and Mongol invasion followed by three centuries of slavery, providing a formidable body of documental evidence to prove his assertion. The so-called "Tartars and Mongols" were the actual ancestors of the modern Russians, living in a bilingual state with Arabic spoken as freely as Russian. The ancient Russian state was governed by a double structure of civil and military authorities. The hordes were actually professional armies with a tradition of lifelong conscription (the recruitment being the so-called "blood tax"). Their "invasions" were punitive operations against the regions that attempted tax evasion. Fomenko proves that Russian history as we know it today is a blatant forgery concocted by a host of German scientists brought to Russia by the usurper dynasty of the Romanovs, whose ascension to the throne was the result of coup d'état, charged with the mission of making their reign look legitimate. Fomenko proves Ivan the Terrible to be a collation of four rulers, no less. They represented the two rival dynasties - the legitimate rulers and the ambitious upstarts. The winner took it all! Over some 30 years of controversy, Russian historians have made a most remarkable transition - they were initially accusing the young mathematician Fomenko of anticommunist dissident activity and attempts to deface the historical legacy of Soviet Russia; nowadays the middle-aged mathematician is accused of adhering to "pro-communist Russian nationalism" and defacing the proud historical legacy of Great Russia.

The Westerners:

Because Fomenko blows consensual Russian history to smithereens, successfully removing a crucial cornerstone from underneath the otherwise impeccable edifice of World History. Fomenko adds insult to injury, wiping out one by one the Ancient Rome (the foundation of Rome in Italy is dated to the XIV century A. D.), the Ancient Greece and its numerous poleis, which he identifies as the mediaeval crusader settlements on the territory of Greece, and the Ancient Egypt (the pyramids of Giza become dated to the XI-XV century A. D. and identified as the royal cemetery of the Global "Mongolian" Empire, no less). The civilization of the Ancient Egypt is irrefutably dated to the XII-XV century A. D. with the aid of the ancient Egyptian horoscopes cut in stone. He was the first one to decipher and date all such horoscopes, coming up with mediaeval dates in every case. English historians rage at the suggestion that the history of Ancient England was de facto a Byzantine import transplanted to the English soil by the fugitive Byzantine nobility. To reward the English historians who consider themselves the true scribes of World History, the cover of the present book portrays Tintoretto's Jesus Christ crucified on the Big Ben.

The Chinese:

Because Fomenko wipes out the Ancient History of China outright. No such thing. Full point. The compilation of the so-called Ancient Chinese History is reliably datable to the XVII-XVIII century only. It is perfectly recognizable as the Ancient European history, reworked and transcribed in hieroglyphs as yet another historical transplantation, this time performed on the Chinese soil by the loving Jesuit hands. The Chinese are the next in line to go berserk. Chinese history is inevitably bound to get both more ancient and more eventful, proportionally to the growing involvement of China in the world affairs. Chinese historians will keep on finding valid proof of prehistoric Chinese spaceflights until the Politburo orders them to shut up.

The Arabs:

Too bad. Islam with all its key figures is datable to XV-XVI century A. D. Arabic historians may find consolation in the crucial historical role of the Ottoman Empire in the XVI-XVII century. The trouble is that this empire was initially a Christian state, with Hagia Sophia identifiable as Temple of Solomon, according to Fomenko! We can only guess if the acquisition of Alexander the Great (a Macedonian and a Christian) as the founder of the Muslim World Empire will make Fomenko's theories more acceptable to the Arabic mainstream. He certainly does not spare any holy cows at all, claiming The Stone of Qa'Aba in Mecca to contain the lost Arch of the Covenant.

The Divinity:

Despite of reiterated statement that his theory is all about chronology and not Religion, Fomenko stirs up a whole condominium of wasp nests. His collection of anathemas, fatwa, and other condemnations from all parties concerned is already considerable. Little wonder, considering that the history of religions à la Fomenko looks as follows: the pre-Christian period (before the XI century and JC), Bacchic Christianity (XI-XII century, before and after JC), JC Christianity (XII-XVI century) and its subsequent mutations into Orthodox Christianity, the Catholicism, Islam, Buddhism, and so on.

According to Fomenko we know strictly NOTHING about the events that predate the X century A. D.

St Augustin was prescient when he spoke unto us: "be wary of mathematicians, particularly when they speak the truth."

4 out of 5 stars Something of a disappointment.......2005-09-09

After having read the first volume of this expected series of 7 volumes I was triggered by the thesis of these authors that ancient Greek and Roman history did in fact take place in the Middle Ages. So I started studying medieval history of the Middle East - also known as Islamic history - to find out if the opponents of the ancient Greeks and Romans - the Acheamenid Persians, Sassanids, Scythians, Egyptians, etc. - also have their duplicates in medieval history. My search was disappointing: none of the many medieval Islamic dynasties seemed to correspond to the ancient middle eastern rulers.

However, I did find a close correspondence between Herodotus' Persian kings and medieval events:

- the defeat and capture of an Anatolian king - the Lydian Croesus - by the Persian conqueror Cyrus is identical to the defeat and capture of another Anatolian king - sultan Bayezid - by the Asian/Mongol conqueror Tamerlane;
- the Persian conquest of Egypt by the cruel tyrant Cambyses reds almost exactly as the Ottoman conquest of Egypt by Selim the Grim (note the nickname!);
- Darius the Lawgiver of the Persian Empire looks very much alike to Sulayman the Magnificent, the Lawgiver in Islamic history;
- Xerxes, whose main claim to fame is to be defeated by the Greeks at the naval battle of Salamis, looks like Selim II (the Sot) whose main claim to fame is to be defeated by a Spanish-Italian alliance at the naval battle of Lepanto.

I should have expected Fomenko et al. to arrive at similar conclusions, however, they claim that the Persian kings are the alter egos of the Angevin kings of Sicily whose biographies do not contain the exploits of the Persian kings.

The similiarities I indicate lead to the conclusion that Herodotus must have written his Histories at the close of the 16th century. But this is extremely late, given that Herodotus is "the Father of History", so therefore all other "ancient" histories must have been fabricated even later. Yet, the founders of modern chronology - Scaliger and Petavius - laid their foundations also at the close of the 16th century and had the full corpus of ancient histories already at their disposal.

It seems to me that Fomenko has to address these inconsistencies, maybe in the forthcoming 5 volumes?

Another critique of their book is that the correspondencies between different rulers are often based on a superficial comparison of the biographies; upon a more thorough comparison many details appear that do not correspond at all.

Finally, the authors rely heavily on the works of Gregorovius (1821-1891!!) - his medieval histories of Rome and Athens - as the source of medieval history; these works are - at least in the West - hoplessly outdated and have been superceded by more up-to-date works (for instance, Julius Norwich's trilogy on Byzantine history is not even cited).

5 out of 5 stars Romulus courts Helen, Paris founds Rome, Moses goes to Troy.........2005-07-30

If you agree with Fomenko that Roman chronology is basically the foundation of the entire edifice of global chronology; you would also certainly agree that despite its numerous gaps and inconsistencies, Roman history is the best-documented field of ancient history, and thus a reference scale. But how well is the actual date of the Eternal City's foundation known?

Firstly, Rome is supposed to have been founded by the Trojans who had to flee after the fall of Troy. Some claim Rome to have been founded by Aeneas and Ulysses shortly after Troy had fallen; others are of the opinion that there was an entire dynasty that ruled for 500 years between the fall of Troy and the foundation of Rome.

Well, that's just an innocent 500 years long misunderstanding compared with what heretic Fomenko says, asserts, proves in his second volume: Second Roman Empire, Third Roman Empire, Biblical Kingdom of Israel, Biblical Kingdom of Judah, Holy Roman Empire are stories about basically same events, written from different points of view at different times. The underlying events have actually taken place during xii-xv cy. These histories have been written and perfected by multitude of highly talented humanist and clerical writers of xiii-xvi cy disguised as "ancients" with glorious names like Homer, Pluto, Thucydides etc..Chronology 2.0 beta..

Historians are kindly invited to report the bugs.

Book Description

After 'Hit Man'

The New York Times bestseller Confessions of an Economic Hit Man documents John Perkins’ extraordinary career as a globe-trotting economic hit man. Perkins’ insider’s view leads him to crisis of conscience--to the realization that he must devote himself to work which will foster a world-wide awareness of the sanctity of indigenous peoples, their cultures, and their environments. Perkins’ books demonstrate how the age-old shamanic techniques of some of the world’s most primitive peoples have sparked a revolution in modern concepts about healing, the subconscious, and the powers each of us has to alter individual and communal reality.

Many indigenous cultures practice shapeshifting. Native American hunters take on the spirit of their prey to ensure a successful hunt; Asian medicine men “ingest” a sickness to heal the one afflicted; Amazon warriors become jaguars to soundlessly travel the jungle. Those who shapeshift understand that all of life is energy and that by focusing your intent you can change energetic patterns, rendering a new form. Shapeshifting can occur on three levels: cellular--transforming from human to plant or animal; personal--becoming a new self or leaving an addiction behind; and institutional--creating a new business or cultural identity.

Since 1968, master shamans in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas have been training John Perkins to teach the industrial world about the powerful techniques involved in shapeshifting. His groundbreaking book takes you to deserts and jungles, mountains and oceans, medical research centers and corporate board rooms to learn the step-by-step methods of this practice that integrates ancient and modern techniques to bring about profound healing.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Read everything John writes. .......2007-07-09

Shapeshifting is a great book in my opinion. Perkins has traveled far and wide to work on behalf of indigenous cultures and their wisdom traditions to help sustain these communities and their ancient ways. As founder of Dream Change Coalition, Perkins has done as much as anyone (with the possible exception of Al Gore) to work to change human consumption patterns and corporate hegemony now destroying these cultures.

Shapeshifting tells a powerful tale of healing and wisdom lost on Eurocentric Peoples. Shapeshifting is more than a personal practice invoked by shamans of the jungle and Andes but a practice of human transformation on multiple levels and contexts of awareness. Perkins is engaged in an endeavor to shape shift human hegemony and preoccupation with consumption to create sustainable outcomes for the earth on all those who live on her.

This is a great book by a modern visionary and activist of the highest caliber.

5 out of 5 stars A fascinating read.......2007-06-11

In "Shapeshifting," John Perkins, author of the bestseller "Confessions of an Economic Hitman," shares lessons he has learned from shamans in the Yucatan, the Andes, the Amazon, the Middle East, and Indonesia. Shapeshifting was a new concept for me, and I was amazed to learn that there are shamans who can supposedly transform themselves on a cellular level into another form, such as a tree, a bat, or a ball of energy. Indeed, many people might be skeptical of these accounts, as well as Perkins' account of his own shapeshift. However, skeptics can still benefit by thinking about shapeshifting at a more metaphorical level. Perkins himself has transformed from an "economic hitman" into an author and activist working to change people's perceptions, and both individuals and institutions can benefit from similar shapeshifts. Indeed, Perkins hopes that indigenous wisdom can help to transform our core institutions into ones that support a sustainable world. Deliberately suspending judgments on what is possible as I read this book, I felt my awareness expand and gained a new appreciation for the power of the mind/ spirit.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Journey.......2007-02-22

John Perkins takes the reader on a spellbinding journey through shaman rich cultures around the world--but particularly those in Central and South America. He shares both his self-doubts and his insights as he "shapeshifts" from economic hitman to a kind of enlightened dream weaver. Written in a relaxed, conversational style, Perkins gives just the right amount of detail and description of his experiences. This is the kind of book that makes one ponder and deeply reflect on life's journey. It really is a "shapeshifter".

5 out of 5 stars A truly mind blowing book. A must read for the enlightened. .......2007-01-04

Trust your inner voice and read this book. I think we can all learn from other cultures.

5 out of 5 stars Inspirational.......2006-11-03

John Perkins does an excellent job of showing his transformation of self. Although he travels worldwide, his writings inspire transforming and increasing awareness at home.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Great for information only.......2006-02-06

When I started reading this book, I would have given it five stars, based on all the information that it provided. However, after finishing it, I have to lower that rating.

First off, for those readers who claim there are exercises to use this system, I haven't found any practical exercises listed. She often quotes guiding her clients with different techniques, but those techniques are not listed. The information she provides, is a good start for someone with strong intuition abilities to find their own techniques- but not for someone who wants true instructions on using the system.

I also have to wonder about the authors true credentials. She quotes MANY books throughout her own book, talks about all the places she's been and people she's studied with, and offers several examples of people she's helped. So with all of this experience in mind, she must have started when she was either 12 or is now 60- because true understanding of such practices isn't something you can learn in a short period of time. I think a lot of her knowledge has been gained from books, and I don't believe that she actually studied with all the true practioners as much as she has claimed. I also am skeptical of some of her 'real life' experiences she reports- as some have inconsistency problems.

Also, has anyone looked online for "Life Systems Services" that she is president of? The ONLY place it's listed, is in her biographical information for her books. There is no website nor contact information in any phone directory in Minnesota. Her contact information on her website is also very vague and mysterious. I have e-mailed regarding information- but the only e-mail contact listed is to another author with her own website and books. I have yet to receive a reply.

I believe the information she provides is helpful, but I disbelieve some of her 'personal based' information and training- that's just my own impression. I have gotten benefit from her book- so I'm not disuading people from buying it. However, don't expect a "how to" book- which was what I was expecting. There is a reason she has an "Advanced Chakra Healing" book published afterall.

I'm not trying to be negative, just expressing my own experiences with this book. I believe that people have a right to know what to expect- and this book was recommended to me highly- so I expected more than it contained. I just want people to know that it's not the 'Holy Grail' but a guide to further understanding- with more information than other Chakra books. I just wished it had more actual instructions, less 'fluff' as far as her questionable actual experiences, and less quotes from other authors. None of these quotes were helpful- and none of the experiences she wrote of were helpful. To be helpful, tell us how to achieve results ourselves, in our own homes- not about what other people experienced as your clients.

1 out of 5 stars cook book.......2002-11-25

Very lala, not usefull, for the serious seeker pass this cook book, it is not because you're dealing with more chakras you'll find any understanding in this book.
sorry i was expecting a lot more, some real insight.

5 out of 5 stars The Definative Book on Healing with Chakras.......2002-05-30

Cyndi Dale presents a book that deals with Chakras that I have yet to see dublicated. This is a book that emerged from her after years of therapy she performed on countless people she helped. Years of experience are packed neatly into this comprehensive book, and you don't need a college degree to understand it. What I like so much, is that is goes beyond the normal seven recognized chakras to the elusive 32 (33 counting the one that encompasses the whole, which is great because it explains the 33 energies of man from ancient history. Look for the number 33 in many myths and legends of the past). On top of that, she gives you step-by-step on how to use all of them. Of course, this isn't the only way it can be done...this is just her way. You can always take her information and modify it to suit your own needs.

If you want to be a healer (maybe you already are?), or you want to understand your own personal energy system on a much higher level...this is the book for you.

5 out of 5 stars Full of useful information.......2002-02-20

This book is chock-full of information on chakras and auras. The author speaks authoritatively, in a voice intended for the average person who may not be used to this approach to dealing with problems or illnesses. She is very well-spoken and convincing. Useful diagrams illustrate the text. It is not vague and flowery but direct and informative. It's interesting to read, and also a handy reference to keep around. I've worked with these energy systems for many years on myself and others and this is a book I regard highly. Many practitioners have different ideas about the number, appearance and locations of these ancient energy systems, so I cannot say whether it is the definitive work or not, but I do find the information in this book to bear out in my own experience. I've used it to help myself and others on issues relating to health, relationships and work, with wonderful results.

5 out of 5 stars New Chakra Healing.......2001-03-10

Chakras are energy centers that "regulate, maintain, and manage the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of our being on the physical plane." Seven physical chakras have been recognized for thousands of years.

Cyndi Dale, who provides intuitive-based consulting and life issue counseling, has "perceived thirty-two energy centers upon which the holistic human is based." She describes these centers in New Chakra Healing: The Revolutionary 32-Center Energy System, and teaches readers how to work with the healing energy of all the chakras.

Dale says that twelve of the chakras exist as part of the physical body and twenty exist only on the spiritual plane, as "higher spiritual centers." She believes that "understanding the nature of these energy centers is critical to understanding ourselves, our truths, our purposes."

She completely describes the location, description, kind of energy provided, communication style, and problems of the twelve physical chakras. She then discusses the purpose, functions, energy forms, communication process, and problems of the twenty spiritual energy centers. She provides exercises designed to help readers access and work with all thirty-two energy centers.

Dale also describes how different chakras control different stages of the life cycle, from pre-conception to death. She explains how to look for developmental blocks and truths, which are "either the opposite of or a reflection of the misperceptions causing us difficulty." Understanding blocks and truths lead to healing. Examples from the thousands of clients she has assisted clarify her explanations.

Dale says the ultimate purpose of New Chakra Healing is to "enable you to comprehend just how important you are to humanity and to a Divine Source. By knowing yourself, you can move forward, get to know other people, and open yourself to the path of purpose which is yours, and yours alone."

This book aids individuals interested in integrating their religious beliefs, physical and mental health, and connecting with the scared through body, mind, and soul.

A wonderful piece of work, full of instruction and examples. A definate user friendly/teach yourself book! Written well and made to digest in small do-able pieces.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best.......2002-01-04

This is one of the best books I've ever read on chakra energy. The author writes with authority and great clarity on the subject. She explains the many facets of chakra energy and its meaning from diverse cultural and mythological perspectives. The book provides detailed chapters on the aspects of each chakra and how the energy generated effects the physical body, the mental focus and the universal connection to Spirit. She gives practical steps the reader can use to channel chakra energy. This is a great book for yoga teachers or those involved in the healing arts. The techniques shared can be incorporated into workshops, healing circles and study groups or used by the individual truth seeker.

5 out of 5 stars Great grounding for your path to your own spiritual quest........2001-06-13

This is one of the very few books I felt compelled to write about but I could not help myself. This is one of the first Spiritual books I felt in total cinch with. It beings with giving you the back ground knowledge you need in order to really appreciate the upcoming knowledge she gives further in the book. This book is not just about African (Egyptian and Yoruba) spirituality but also shows the connections to Hindu, Buddhists beliefs to those original Egyptian concepts. It even connects Christian beings to the Egyptians. But this is not a book about Religion she leaves this for you to decide, she just presents the connections as a reference to what she is trying to say. This a "How to Guide", it goes into detail from how to prepare your body for spiritual awaking, i.e. mediations, exercises mainly yoga, to foods you should eat for each Charkas, and Crystals. It also gives a pretty long list of Orisa, and has a chapter dedicated to each individual charka. It is full of easy to do practical things you can do in your own home, to heighten the positive Vibrations in your home and body that are not time consuming. And for women she points out our own powers as Goddesses and the role we USE to play before our original beliefs were destroyed by colonization. This book is very in-depth but not over whelming. It also filled the void I felt and filled in some of the blanks, I was left with after being raised Christian, and exploring other "Major" religion left me with. A MUST BUY for anyone looking to start on a more slef- empowering spiritual path! I could go on but there is to much to say. Buy it, borrow it just get it!

I am from México City. A week ago I bought this book and I read it. I think it's great. It was my first english book actually.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book! A total must!.......2001-11-02

I have been praticing Western Esoterics (Kabbalah)for many years, and have been a student of Taoist energy work for the last 2 years. The Work by Yudelove is great and a needed bridge between Kabbalah and Taoism. The other reviewers must have read a different book then I did or had a very basic understanding of spirituality and the Eastern and Western Traditions(the guy pretending to be Manta Chia should be ashamed of himself). The information in this book is very valuable and should not be over looked. Its a must for the students of both spiritual paths.

Read this book closely. You wont be disapointed

This book shows no understanding. It is probably not even written by a Chinese. I bought the book cause I thought it was autenthic. I feel like I've wasted my money. After contacting Eric Yudelove about this, and visiting his website, I realised that this guy has more mental problems than the average joe blow. You are welcome to see for yourself and the complaints at this guys website.

5 out of 5 stars A Historical Book.......2000-06-26

This is simply a historical book because the author decodes for the first time the hidden meaning of internal alchemy. He shows how Taoist internal alchemy and the internal alchemy of the Kabballah are essentially the same!

I do not know why the other reviews here are lack luster. Also Mantak Chia wrote the foreword to this book. The person below is masquerading.

5 out of 5 stars Tadodaho Messenger.......2007-09-10

This book is a MUST read for everybody. It was very well written by Steve Wall, a retired National Geography editor who spent many years with Leon Shenandoah, Chief Tadodaho of Iroquois Nation. Leon Shenandoah, Chief Tadodaho is from Onondaga Tribe, which is known as the central firekeeper of Six Nation, that of Iroquois Confederacy. The book does not only shed some lights into Iroquois and Native America culture but more importantly it shed so much insight into life and what it means to be the ultimate human being that we all are. In 2006 I had a vision while I was asleep when a Native American gentleman appeared in front of me, saying nothing but appeared to know who I was. I did not know who he was or what he was trying to tell me until approximately one year later when I ran into this book, by mere accident. When I saw a picture of him in the book I broke down and felt the presence of a powerful spirit, realizing that it was the very same man that came to me in my vision. Since then I've become a Tadodaho Messenger, in which I've purchased numerous copies of the book and distributed them to seekers that I run paths with. The book contains powerful message and hope for all human beings. Chief Tadodaho teaches us to be the firekeepers that we all are so that we're able to instill small fires in each human beings and give them hope so that they'll begin to do good for other human beings. You'll also learn about your own center and why it's important to build yourself and grow from the center.

Leon Tadodaho, Chief Tadodaho passed away some time in the 1990's and was largely unheard outside of Iroquois Nation. That's because he did not bother to gain celebrity status under the spot lights. Instead he spent all of his time working with his people and helping them. Make a trip to Iroquois Nations and ask anybody there about him and you will find them weeping in great pain because they all miss him miserably. Fortunately for us, Leon Shenandoah, Chief Tadodaho did not forget us. He spent many years preparing Steve Wall with important messages with hope to have a book published so that it'll benefit everybody when and if they're willing to take a brief pause in life long enough to read his important messages. The book was published after he died but yet his spirit continue to travel as he continue to work on things that are important to the Creator. Look no further than introduction "foreword page" and you will read "When I go, I'll not be wanting to leave. So I'll have some visiting to do. Look out! I may come to see you. You know what I told you, 'Pay attention. And listen. There really is no death'."

5 out of 5 stars Required reading for every human being.......2005-08-29

This book needs to be required reading for every human being on this earth. Powerful. Profound. Deeply spiritual and life changing. What an amazing man. It's too bad our current political leaders are so arrogant, selfish and stubborn. They could learn a few lessons about true, honest, unselfish, genuine leadership from this man, his life and his lessons. There truly is strength in gentleness.

5 out of 5 stars To Become a Human Being: The Message of Tadodaho Chief Leon Shenandoah.......2005-08-12

Steve Wall's interviews with Chief Shenandoah are a treasure, gifted to a world sorely in need of his gentle humor, great wisdom, and humility.

Book Description

Exploring the fundamental concepts of the caste system, Alain Danielou addresses issues of race, individual rights, sexual mores, marital practices, and spiritual attainments. In this light, the author explains how Hindu society has served as a model for the realization of human potential, and exposes the inherent flaws and hypocrisies of our modern egalitarian governments.

5 out of 5 stars Hindu Value System.......2004-12-23

This book is an explanation of the Hindu value system. Danielou is a very well-known musicologist and linguist who has published many important works explaining Indian music to Western audiences. In this book, he takes up the basic tenets of the Hindu religion and how they are played out in the culture of India. The book is organized into two parts. The first part consists of only two chapters, covering the early history of Hinduism and the development of Sanskrit, and the justification for the caste system. The second part begins with a brief description of Hindu cosmology, and then turns to the four aims of life: duty, success, pleasure, and liberation, and relates these to the four stages of life: study, family, retreat, and renunciation. The book contains two appendices: an enumeration of the thirty-two sciences and the sixty-four arts, a one-page description of sources, and an index.

I found this book quite easy to understand. Danielou's description of the four aims of life and corresponding four stages of life is very clear. Danielou points out how very different Hindu assumptions about the world, its organization and social structure are from Western assumptions. He notes that the enormity of the differences can make it practically impossible for members of one culture ever to understand the other culture completely, since their worldview is so different. He says "It is difficult to explain Hindu moral attitudes using a Western vocabulary fashioned by Christian scholasticism; it is not even easy to establish parallels between terms, postulates, and classifications. The very values are so contradictory that in passing from one of these worlds to the other, it is necessary to think on another plane and in another idiom..."

As Danelou writes, it can be hard to tell whether he is giving his own personal opinions, some of which might be objectionable if judged by Western ethical standards, or simply stating commonly-held Hindu beliefs. He supports his statements with numerous quotations from sacred Hindu texts. As a Western reader, I cannot vouch for the accuracy of his explanations, but logically, they make sense and shed light on many aspects of Hindu culture that appear incomprehensible to Westerners unfamiliar with Hindu beliefs.

5 out of 5 stars Life purpose in ancient India.......2000-08-12

What is the purpose of human life? In tradition Hindu society, there are four answers - the right one depends on your stage in life. These four goals are: (1) *dharma* -- virtue, duty; (2) *artha* -- success, wealth, family life; (3) *kama* -- pleasure, sexuality, sensual enjoyment; and (4) *moksha* -- total spiritual liberation. Alain Danielou, one of the greatest scholars of ancient India, discusses the implications of a society based on these four goals. Danielou argues persuasively that this four-thousand year old system of the Four Aims of Life gives us deep insight into human nature, a level of insight sadly lacking in many modern conceptions. This small book is brief and clear, an accessible introduction for someone not familiar with Hinduism or traditional Indian society. I highly recommend it for anyone considering question of life purpose.
