Barbara has done it again with another fabulous addition to the annals of polymer clay! Using her expertise as an artist, Barbara does an excellent job of show how limitless the possibilities of stamping with polymer clay can be. Her attention to detail and eye for color, form and function are well expressed in this book. The projects are well timely, well thought out and brilliantly executed. As always, Barbara does an extrodinary job with the finishing of each piece. And as always, her text is full of extremely helpful hints and tips that even the most experienced polymer enthusiast can use. I highly recommend this book!
Sophisticated designs and easy techniques.......2002-07-04
This book features many projects using rubber stamps and polymer clay. The pictures are great and the step-by-step instructions are clear. Instructions are given for many different techniques. Some use ink to stamp the designs, some use the stamp to create an impression in the clay. Others use mica, foil stamping and embossing powders. Projects include jewelry, small book covers, decorative insets for boxes and many other varied projects.
Also, the projects are not bright, cutsey, whimsical items. They are more sophisticated, with simple shapes, relying on rich surface texture and images. This may or may not be a good thing, depending on your tastes. As it is sometimes difficult to find good polymer clay books for those of us who are not into whimsical, I would recommend this book highly.

Creative Stamping with Mixed Media Techniques is another valuable resource and creative inspiration book from Sherrill Kahn. Both books by Ms. Kahn are full of outstanding photographs to inspired dozens of mixed media adventures. Her work is bold and colorful, and incorporates numerous mixed media techniques that are easily accessible to all readers. There are dozens of project ideas in the book that will satisfy crafters, and even more valuable are the demonstrations of painting and stamping techniques that readers can explore and adapt to their own artwork and projects.
Fantastic companion volume to author's first book!.......2003-09-26
If you love rubber stamping and painting on fabric, you need just two books: this one and the author's first, Creating with Paint. I have both books and love them equally-and, more importantly--I USE them extensively in my own artwork.
I have also taken two workshops with the author, Sherrill Kahn, and highly recommend them. Take a workshop with Sherrill if you can! She's a very encouraging, supportive and inspiring teacher, and all of these qualities come across in her two books.
One of my favorite aspects of Creative Stamping is that Sherrill shows you in step-by-step photos how she layers dyes, paint and stamping techniques to arrive at her highly complex fabrics. It's easy once you see how she does it, and that's why Creative Stamping is a must-have for any fabric painters library.
Lots of information, inspiration, and some great how-to projects make Creative Stamping well worth the investment.

Again, Sherrill has produced a book worth examining for wonderful pictures, and step-by-step techniques. My greatest concern is once again finding the trademarked material TYVEK utilized in craft work. The makers of TYVEK specifically have stated it is never to be heated or used other than for what it is specifically designed for. Deathly toxic, once more it is appalling to find it used with a 'heat outdoors' statement attached. Does the company know this material is being used this way??? As an art educator I must not only be aware of this safety info for myself but for my students. Poor editing let this one slip by.

Making Rubber Stamping Creative.......2007-09-10
The charm of this book is the amount of paper related creative techniques that one learns while also learning essential rubber stamping. Rubber stamping in itself is used to supplement mostly paper crafts and book arts (but one can rubber stamp fabric, too), which one also learns a lot about while doing the projects in this book. If this is your interest then I think this is an essential book to own on this subject.
Clever, Creative, And Expensive.......2006-08-20
I have loved all of the MaryJo McGraw stamping books that I've read. This is most likely my favorite. It is very creative. My favorite part about her books is that the cards actually look pretty, like something I'd want to duplicate myself. With other stamping books I didn't like the cards, and there was no way I wanted to use them as a guide even if their tecniques worked. Also the writing is fun and interesting, and not dull or preachy. My one problem with it is that to be able to make the cards you have to buy a lot of supplies. Overall the book in itself is very inspiring and worthwhile although it asks you to use many different supplies.

Tips on using different types of media like velllum, using wax stamps and embossing powders, making antique finishes. using metallic papers, and an especially fun one - using brayers and bleach - these (and more) are all in this book - really lots to inspire plus good instructions.
Creative and Informative.......2003-06-22
I have just started making craft projects and this book was a lifesaver. Besides offering very creative projects, this book provides all the basic techniques of stamping. The author earns my gratitude by showing each method in a step-by-step manner, with photos at every step. However, this book also will satisfy the more experienced stamper.
In the first chapter, the author gives a detailed list of helpful tools and materials, a small library of quirky images, and the basics of inking and cleaning stamps.
In the second chapter on embossing, the author first lists basic materials and tips. Then, she gives "receipes" and instructions for particular projects. Some are more complicated than others. Finally, the author gives an "endless possibility" section that provides instructions without the step-by-step photos. This is because these projects all build on the basic tecniques so it would be redundant to include them. My favorite project in this chapter is the Deco-Roman-looking flute player superimposed over sheet music.
The third chapter follows the format of the second chapter in how it is set up, but all the projects involve embedded stamps. This method is "a bit tricky" as the author says, because it involves heat, but looks impressive. It gives a 3-D effect to the stamped image.
The fourth chapter describes how to add vellum to your projects. This chapter also has basic techniques and tips upon which are built more, but do-able, projects. I like the use of tassles with the vellum.
Chapters five and eight describe embellishments and how to combine previously mentioned techniques. Chapter five focusses on beading and sealing wax. Chapter eight titled ornaments does not describe stamping Christmas-like ornaments, but rather how to make clay ornamentation. I would have liked to see more variety in the embellishments in the two chapters, but there are still some nice ideas. I especially liked the heartstrings card in chapter five.
Chapters six, seven, and nine describe ways to add a finish to your project. The chapters present the methods of antiquing, paper metallics, and brayers, respectively. Antiquing is easier than I thought it would be with the author's simple instructions, but adding a metal finish is another tricky method that involves heat. Chapter nine describes how to change the appearance of your project using watercolors, bleaching, textures(like bubble wrap), and a brayer.
In the last section the author gives useful information. She provides a list of stamp companies and publications. Thankfully, she also provides a list by page number of all the stamps, and the companies that make them, used in the projects.
I look forward to trying all the projects, and would recommend this book to crafters at all experience levels.

I was really inspired by this book. Maryjo shows us several unique techniques that are more than just basic cards. If you are looking for great artsy projects, you need to get this book. Maryjo shows us all how to look at our stamping supplies in a different way. If you want to create stunning one of a kind works of art, this is the book for you!

Although the expected is here (note cards, wrapping paper, boxes), so is the delightfully unexpected (a fire screen, a chef's hat and apron, a coffee table, ceramic dishware, candles), all of it attractively handled. The majority of the more than 40 projects are home-decor pieces, and there are also various clothing items and paper products, plus some nice children's items, presented with good step-by-step directions and clear color photos. The instructional emphasis is more on individual items than on whole rooms, but a number of photo spreads show fully coordinated effects, from walls to window treatments to bed linens to a hutch full of various accessories. --Amy Handy

this book is now 10 years old. I purchased it on a bargain book site and sadly it's not even worth the bargain price.
While having lovely glossy photos-this book LITERALLY is about stamping on items-and that's the craft of it. Every project is just an item that has been stamped on. No techniques or inventive uses of art materials in new ways.
Unless you have never stamped a stamp in your life, there is NOTHING new this book can teach you. This book is for beginners only. Save your money.

This book contains many projects for home decorating and gifts. The full-color photos give the reader creative ideas and enhance the instructions well. The books also contains some history tidbits and some very useful tips to make your stamping experience fun and productive.

The book is well written and has great illustrations and especially good information on products for the beginner. It really shows how much fun textile surface design can be however I must stress that if you have done much work with surface design at all, this book will not be very challenging. It is a great book for beginners!.

I live in Washington, and spend more time than my husband would like in "Impress", whose owner penned this book.
It is a great book for style and substance..but most of all, starters. The designs are not too complicated for the early - medium crafter, but will require specific tools.
Ms. Perkins has great creativity (or a fabulous design team), which is evident in this book - but the suggestions also utilize several items exclusive to the "Impress" line of stamps and products. This fact wasn't as helpful to the friend I sent it to in Hawaii. She really loved the designs, but was apprehensive about spending so much on products and shipping from the author's web store.
All in all, I do use this book, and add my own sense of personal style to the building blocks she has laid before us in "Stamping with Style". Worth a look. ~*~

It seems to be a great book for beginners with lots of neat card projects. The book is set out by months of the year and cards you could make that month. The card projects aren't as nice as I was hoping, but they definitely have potential and the instructions are clear and concise. There is even a section at the back of the book that lists stamping resources.
I didn't give it that 5th perfect star because I was hoping the card projects in the book would be nicer and more colourful. I also didn't give it the 5th elusive star because alot of the stamps used in the book are now discontinued and very hard to get a hold of.

I received this book from Amazon just today and was simply thrilled when I browsed through it. I have been rubber stamping for quite sometime now and have wanted to get books with cards that look "professional" (cards that look more like what you buy from stores than those that look like "kid's art"). I find this book to give me the inspiration I need when I want to make a good quality card for someone special. The cards are simple-to-make yet look elegant. A good buy!

I recently started stamping cards and was so happy to have this book as one of the first in my library!! I loved the unique, classy designs - easy and fun to do!! The step by step instructions are great and the color pictures are very helpful. I shop at a local Impress store and love it! I have bought 3 Dee Gruenig's books and each one of them seems similar - the tips are somewhat the same, the pics similar in style, the techniques used similar (kind of a repeat in all her books...which makes me really disappointed that I paid for the book. I was hoping that there would be something new and different the author would put forth in this book but it has proven otherwise. I do suggest anybody who has bought one or more of Dee's books to think twice before buying this one. It will just be another "duplicate" sitting on your shelf collecting dust. After this, I don't think I will ever buy her books again. Sheer waste of money...It's a wonder how the author can go all out to publish a new book with no apparent new ideas.

I am fairly new to rubber stamping and this book is an excellent source of information. Everything is explained step by step so you can't go wrong. There are so many projects to try that you will never be bored. You will be stamping out greeting cards, picture frames, invitations, wrapping paper and much, much more! This book makes rubber stamping a fun project for ALL ages.I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it to anyone interested in rubber stamping.Beginners and also experienced stampers will have a lot of fun with this book.
