As his fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry approaches, 15-year-old Harry Potter is in full-blown adolescence, complete with regular outbursts of rage, a nearly debilitating crush, and the blooming of a powerful sense of rebellion. It's been yet another infuriating and boring summer with the despicable Dursleys, this time with minimal contact from our hero's non-Muggle friends from school. Harry is feeling especially edgy at the lack of news from the magic world, wondering when the freshly revived evil Lord Voldemort will strike. Returning to Hogwarts will be a relief... or will it?
The fifth book in J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series follows the darkest year yet for our young wizard, who finds himself knocked down a peg or three after the events of last year. Somehow, over the summer, gossip (usually traced back to the magic world's newspaper, the Daily Prophet) has turned Harry's tragic and heroic encounter with Voldemort at the Triwizard Tournament into an excuse to ridicule and discount the teen. Even Professor Dumbledore, headmaster of the school, has come under scrutiny by the Ministry of Magic, which refuses to officially acknowledge the terrifying truth that Voldemort is back. Enter a particularly loathsome new character: the toadlike and simpering ("hem, hem") Dolores Umbridge, senior undersecretary to the Minister of Magic, who takes over the vacant position of Defense Against Dark Arts teacher--and in no time manages to become the High Inquisitor of Hogwarts, as well. Life isn't getting any easier for Harry Potter. With an overwhelming course load as the fifth years prepare for their Ordinary Wizarding Levels examinations (O.W.Ls), devastating changes in the Gryffindor Quidditch team lineup, vivid dreams about long hallways and closed doors, and increasing pain in his lightning-shaped scar, Harry's resilience is sorely tested.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, more than any of the four previous novels in the series, is a coming-of-age story. Harry faces the thorny transition into adulthood, when adult heroes are revealed to be fallible, and matters that seemed black-and-white suddenly come out in shades of gray. Gone is the wide-eyed innocent, the whiz kid of Sorcerer's Stone. Here we have an adolescent who's sometimes sullen, often confused (especially about girls), and always self-questioning. Confronting death again, as well as a startling prophecy, Harry ends his year at Hogwarts exhausted and pensive. Readers, on the other hand, will be energized as they enter yet again the long waiting period for the next title in the marvelous, magical series. (Ages 9 and older) --Emilie Coulter
Book Description
The book that took the world by storm....In his fifth year at Hogwart's, Harry faces challenges at every turn, from the dark threat of He-Who-Must-Not-Be- Named and the unreliability of the government of the magical world to the rise of Ron Weasley as the keeper of the Gryffindor Quidditch Team. Along the way he learns about the strength of his friends, the fierceness of his enemies, and the meaning of sacrifice.

The Order of the Phoenix rises..........2007-09-23
After reading the fourth book in the series I thought it could just not get any better... boy was I wrong! Harry staves off an attack by Dementors, saves his cousin's life, and has to face a trial at the Ministry of Magic, all before the school year even begins.
With Voldemort back, Dumbledore has recalled the Order of the Phoenix, a group of Wizards and Witches that fought against You-Know-Who the last time. Harry is hidden away for a short period of time at the secret head quarters of the Order, while awaiting his trail at the Ministry of Magic for 'Under Age Use of Magic away from School'. It soon becomes evident that the Minister of Magic is not only determined to not believe that Voldemort has returned, but has even started a compaign to discredit both Harry and Dumbledore to try and prevent people from believing them.
During the School year Harry and the other fifth years have increasingly large piles of school work to complete, and to perpare for their OWLs, which come at the end of their fifth year. Meanwhile the students, and teachers, have a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to deal with, who has been appointed by the Ministry of Magic! Things at Hogwarts go from bad to worse, as this new teacher is given a wide range of powers over the other teachers via a stream of Ministry 'Educational Decrees'. Meanwhile Harry is plagued by troubling dreams, of traveling down a darkened hallway to a mysterious door, which leaves his scar burning more and more intensely. Perhaps even more puzzling, and disturbing, to Harry is the fact that Dumbledore seems to be going to lengths to ignore him.
Anyone who has enjoyed the past books in this series will love 'The Order of the Phoenix. This book takes the mystical fantasy elements of the earlier books, and ties them into an increasingly darkening plot line, pitting Harry and his friends against even worse dangers around every corner.
RD Williams, author of 'The Lost Gate'.
Entertaining and kept my interest.......2007-09-21
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was far darker than the previous book but kept my interest throughout. Many of the characters are either becoming more sinister or are displaying a great tenacity to fight evil. Overall, I enjoyed this book far more than the previous one although the Potter series, as a whole, still doesn't strike me a "great literature" but rather an entertaining experience. I will say that as the plot progressed, I've become more eager to find out what's going to happen next; therefore, I'm going to start book six tonight.
Adolescents at Hogwarts.......2007-09-17
In this fifth book of the Harry Potter series we join Harry at the first part of the summer after his fourth year at Hogwarts. Harry finds himself back with the Dursleys, isolated in the Muggles' world once again. But all this changes as Dementors attack him. We then move into the school year where things do not look up for Harry. It seems that the Ministry of Magic has made sure that no one would believe of Harry's encounter with Voldemort of nothing more than his imagination.
During the school year it seems our hero does not deal well with his adolescent years. He is clueless about everything; what is happening to him, his friends, relationships, and common sense nor is he able to take advice. It is his almost constant whining, inability to control his anger and ineptitude in daily teenage life that has me drop my rating to three. Even with this the plot is moved along as we are introduced to the Order of the Phoenix, Hogwarts curriculum trying to cause change by the Ministry of Magic, and Harry scar gives more warnings.
I am still going to give it five stars.........2007-09-13
I too thought the book was very drawn out, however, I understand why this needed to happen. The Order of the Phoenix takes place after the fourth (Duh) in which the readers come to find that the lovely Voldermort has come back and stronger than ever. Plagued with constant ridicule from the daily prophet and the minister of magic Harry must remain calm and continue to do as he does and fight the snickers and the sneers from the people at Hogwarts. I really liked the beginning of this book because it started off with some pretty good suspense. There is an introduction of two new characters and I thought very much that they added quite nicely to the dynamic of the story. I positivley promise that you are going to loathe one of the new people so much, it will make your head spin. The kids at Hogwarts begin to take matters in their own hands when forces are way out of their control and the book moves nicely into some history of Harry's family and professor snape. The end is a great ending and a brilliant set up for the sixth ( I have already started it, soo good). If you have seen the movie and are wondering if this book may be for you, just pick it up and enjoy it.
Gets better as you go along..........2007-09-09
At first I didn't like this book as much as the others...however as I stuck with the progression of this book I really started to enjoy the character development and the plot of the story (through all books). It is a definite turn down a darker path, both with the story but also as the characters realize Lord Voldemort is really back to his full power. It really upset me the way Dumbledore was acting towards Harry, but at the end it is all explained. I had to wait for the last book to be released to start reading this series, and I'm glad I did, I couldn't have waited for new books to be released...this series is one of the greatest ever written, in my opinion, and well worth the sleepless nights it has had me staying up reading.
Book Description
Love Is Never Painless
Truer words have never been spoken. This heart-wrenching collection of novellas brings that statement to life in three unique ways, penned by three of the generation's most prolific authors.
In Eileen M. Johnson's "How the Other Half Lives," Jamellah and Fernecia have been friends since forever. Having escaped the poverty of their youth together, they both had made their mark in society. However, men problems threaten to make them literally fall apart. Fernecia is married to a man who was raised to think he is better than everyone -- even his own wife. Jamellah has always used men to get ahead but eventually everything catches up to her. The two friends must ultimately count on each other in a world of havoc and distrust.
In V. Anthony Rivers's "Love Is 2 Blame," Malcolm is devastated after a two-year relationship with Shaylisa ends. He finds it difficult to function because he cannot comprehend why she would want to end such a perfect situation. He was everything she had asked for; he treated her with respect and showered her with love. Yet love was not enough. Trying to move on to someone new will not be as easy as it used to be, but will the lovely Zahara show Malcolm what true love is all about?
In Zane's "Staring Evil in the Face," Robier has everything a man could ever wish for: a stable and rewarding career, two beautiful children, an elegant home, and the woman of his dreams. Having loved Tiphanie since college, he is determined to keep his marital vows until . . . Tiphanie is involved in a horrible car accident that changes the entire course of their lives.
From nervous breakdowns to drug addiction, Love Is Never Painless explores the deeper side of love; the side rarely explored in romance novels. Zane, Johnson, and Rivers have penned a powerful collection of novellas that will not only have readers talking but also examining their own relationships with a new perspective.

It was a good book!!!.......2007-08-05
My girlfriend enjoyed the book very much. She's a fan of Zane and this book is a reason why.
Change.......2007-08-02
This book was heart-felt and realistic. I love the change of pace but look forward to getting back to what drew me to her books.
A real eye-opener!.......2007-06-24
This book was wonderfully written! The authors did a great job with the stories which focused on LOVE ! And also made me realize the importance of it! This book was a real eye-opener and will defianantly touch your heart more ways than one!
Excellent Book..........2007-06-10
I typically love Zane. Her writing is bold, crisp and powerful. Her images are vivid and come through quite clearly in her writing. A new author also caught my eye, his style is very similar. Shombay Kimoni's "A Black College Nightmare". These books are both quite similar and powerful. I would suggest them both. I planned and am reading everything else both authors write.

What HAPPENED.......2007-04-11
This book was okay, but not a Zane great. I know she didn't write all the stories but I found the last story in the book to be the best but not great. I was expecting a book that you can't put down and this book was far from it.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

I'll Keep it short but unfortunately not sweet.......2007-07-27
My Sunday School students found the stories in this particular children's bible very boring and unappealing. I found the stories to be poorly edited, to the point that they made little sense.
Great for young readers and parents.......2007-07-06
This is a great bible for young readers. i would put the reading level to be for 5 or 6 year olds. it's great for parents to sit down with kids and encourage them to not only read, but to get to know the stories from the bible as well.
also, each little story has a few follow up questions to help you talk about with your little reader to make sure they understand, and for you to begin discussion.
The book itself is very high quality and the pictures are great.
Good, but... stories not long enough.......2007-05-14
Illustrations are nice and my 4 year old likes it. The stories are a little too short for me though. I think this is appropriate for an older toddler/younger preschooler. After each short bible story, there's a page of questions for discussion with your child. These are nice for reinforcement and good bedtime talk material.
Great Children's Bible!.......2007-05-07
Great Bible, my 8 your old son loves to read all the time.
Not for AVID readers..........2007-01-10
My son is almost 7 years old and I bought this Bible thinking it would be "age appropriate." The sad part is that it does NOT have book name titles above the pages nor does it have verses. It's more like a Bible for new readers. I read other reviews and thought this would work out but I was wrong. I guess I'll save it for my 3 year old. Be advised.

Like all the Chicken Soup books, this one is filled with mushy stories that tug at the heartstrings. If you love dogs, and love a sweet, sentimental story you must get this book.

what i needed.......2007-02-19
i needed this book for a short fiction class. it cost over $60 in the school book store. this was just what i was looking for on my very small student budget.
Great Service.......2007-02-14
Book came very very quickly and in amazing condition. Although i returned the book because i no longer was taking the course that required this book they were very helpful with the whole returning process.
Awesome book full of classics.......2006-03-16
I bought this book for a class, but I will keep it and refer back to it everytime I need to read a classic.
A writer's anthology.......2006-02-21
Writers, especially beginning writers, interested in short stories should take a good glance at this anthology. The book draws from a wide selection of international literature leaning towards the contemporary (stories written within the last 20 - 30 years) rather than the modern or classics of the short story genre. The beginning briefly covers some common ideas about action, plot, complication, point of view, indirection, the part and the whole and coherence followed up by questions suitable for classroom discussions. The bulk of the book comes from stories chosen by the editors who wish to believe that even if you bother to read every selection in the book, you as a reader may finish reading the book but the book, the stories themselves may not be finished with you, their ideas staying with you long after the book has been sold back to a college usedbook store or disposed of in some other way. Finally, the last hundred pages deal with writing literature criticism as well as the act of writing itself in short, brief excerpts written by several of the writers who are included in the collection. Although it is on the pricey side, it is a good reference for those interested in short story writing. Another anthology to consider is The Art of the Story edited by Daniel Halpern which is much less expensive and more contemporary than the Norton Anthology.

Lots of Helpful Hints........2007-01-19
The book would be a lot more useful to me if Swain did more showing and less talking about what he does. Its a glaring defect because people learn differently, and I require demonstrations to get it. In fairness, however, few writing teachers do as well as Swain. The book is a good addition to my toolbox; it just isnt excellent or a revelation.
The difference between amateur and professional.......2005-12-15
Years ago, at a garage sale, I stumbled on a copy of Swain's other book, Techniques Of The Selling Writer. Took it home, looked at it and decided it was beneath me -- or at least below the level I fancied I was writing at. A few years later, after three more novel rejections, I took it out and read it. Really read it. It's a basic book, I won't say it isn't. But it covered so much stuff I'd somehow missed. Like the creation of story scenes. When it had sometime to settle in my psyche I started selling short stories. Shortly after, I sold novels. I have now sold eight books -- some not under my own name -- and can live from my writing.
As for this book -- I never had a need for a character book. It's one of the things I do intuitively. However, when my husband was struggling with characters I thought "Well, Swain helped me, so..." and I bought him this book. He studied it and his next story was published.
I can't garantee these results -- there's so much to the selling of a story or novel that does NOT depend on technique of any sort -- but I can tell you that when I'm mentoring someone -- which I've done a lot since then -- and their issue seems to be technique, Swain's books usually cure the problem.
Creating Characters - Dwight V. Swain.......2005-04-18
"Creating Characters" is a great tool to own if you are a writer looking to create, build, or improve fictional characters. Its simplicity and balanced approach toward designing your characters inside and out will prove successful for beginners as well as a review for more advanced writers.
Though it's a great book to own if you are willing to dig for any helpful advice, it does have its major drawbacks. Its organization, at times, reads more like a student's compiled notes than a formally completed book. Chaotic, the chapters succeed in running into each other and create quite a confusion when it comes to understanding connections. Not only this, but I found that I disagreed with quite a bit of its advice.
For example, at the beginning of chapter five, the author stipulates that "happiness is the universal human goal." Maybe. But what I fail to understand is why Swain chose that as a centerpiece for so much of his book. There are many universal goals, so why choose happiness as the ultimate? "Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs" has a similar tone, but would have provided a more in-depth area to pursue, possibly even more interesting and challenging since it deals with a much more abstract, yet personal, goal.
Though I disliked the chaotic and highly disorganized layout, "Creating Characters" is still a great read if you don't mind sifting through all the verbage and oblivion in order to find the basic elements of character development.
"I cannot believe that the purpose of life is to be happy. I think the purpose of life is to be useful, to be responsible, to be compassionate. It is, above all to matter, to count, to stand for something, to have made some difference that you lived at all." -Leo Rosten
Happy Reading!
How to build characters that matter.......2005-04-11
Dwight Swain taught writing for many years and helped dozens of writers on their way to publication, including me. He practiced what he preached and sold successfully all his lifetime. There is no mystification in this guide, but solid how-to. An indispensable tool for the beginner and useful tips for the professional. Highly recommended. risky advice.......2005-02-02
A whole book on characterization may be just what you need. Is this it? The chapters treat the usual aspects or problems of characterization: making your character real, motivating your character, giving some background of your character, offbeat characters, heroes, amusing characters, describing characters, characterization through dialogue, characters in unfamiliar settings. The central thing, says the author, is to make your character care about something-your character, not necessarily your reader. "It doesn't matter whether this something is major or minor, cataclysmic or trivial." (p.1) Doesn't it? How is the reader going to feel about a character who cares about something trivial? According to Swain, this is unimportant. But be forewarned: it may be important to your reader if you choose such a protagonist for your novel.
Further: "Finding a character means...giving human form to aspects of yourself that you like, or dislike, or wish you had. ... all your characters are you." (p. 7) Besides the fact that many would disagree with this recommendation, it is risky advice.
The details of each chapter also will be familiar to anyone who has read other books on writing: give the sex, age, vocation and manner. (p. 15) "Manner is...style." (p. 16) And so it goes. How do you do characterization? Adjectives and incidents. (p. 18) This is the kind of vanilla advice this book consists of. "It's to your advantage to consider the tastes and prejudices of your particular audience." (p. 54) Such redundant statements are not so much untrue as they are unhelpful. To make your character likeable: "The character is striving to attain something. ...The character is today-slanted.... The character does not contradict readers' feelings or their basic beliefs." If only if were that simple!
In sum, if you haven't read many books on fiction-writing, you can get the basic ideas from this book, but you run the risk of thinking that you know how to do characterization after you finish. You won't. You'll only know some of the kinds of thing you can do. And even then, you won't have a clue which work better for your purposes than others.

The Magic of the Chicken Soup For the Soul Series.......2007-07-17
I've read quite a number of Jack Canfield's Chicken Soup For the Soul series, so you can imagine my delight when I found out that there was a book dedicated to us feline fans...I've had cats all my life, so many of the stories contained in this book I can identify with. So many of the stories in this book are bittersweet, and any cat lover will see themselves in these pages...Also, I highly recommend having a box of tissues handy while reading this book.
Great book for cat lovers!.......2007-07-05
Never read a chicken soup book but I heard how great they were. I loved this book! If you are a cat lover, you should definitely get this book for yourself or as a gift for someone else.
A Must for Cat Lovers.......2007-03-26
I received this book from my vet after I had to put my cat to sleep because of cancer. At first I couldn't read the book because I cried after reading each story. After a few weeks I decided to try again and started reading. I still cried, but this book made me realize just how much love and companionship is offered by our four-legged friends, and how much I really appreciated the time I had with my cat. This is must for all cat lover's.
Book Description
In this powerful book, the renowned exorcist of Rome tells of his many experiences in his ministry as an exorcist doing battle with Satan to relieve the great suffering of people in the grip of evil. The importance of the ministry to "expel demons" is clearly seen in the Gospels, from the actions of the Apostles, and from Church history. Fr. Amorth allows the reader to witness the activities of the exorcist, to experience what an exorcist sees and does. He also reveals how little modern science, psychology, and medicine can do to help those under Satan's influence, and that only the power of Christ can release them from this kind of mental, spiritual or physical suffering.
An Exorcist Tells His Story has been a European best-seller that has gone through numerous printings and editions. No other book today so thoroughly and concisely discusses the topic of exorcism.

Case Book of an Exorcist.......2007-09-13
This book needs courage to read, not because of featuring the art and science of diabolical possession but the challenge it will provoke. Possession is one of the controversial subjects that often cross boarders of theology and psychology, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID); the former name of multiple or split personality disorder as science may call it. Author Fr. Gabriel Amorth has the cure for this problem whether it is supernatural or psychological. Reading through the book, one will find that Fr. Amorth, an erudite scholar and humble priest; a great fidei defensor, show us the workings of evil and its tentacles on human souls. His words will challenge us, and we can either accept or reject his views but one can never simply ignore the impact these pages going to make. Fr. Gabriele is the senior exorcist of Roman Catholic Church. He became an official Vatican exorcist in June 1986 under the tutelage of Father Candido Amantini. In 1990, he founded the International Association of Exorcists and was president until he retired, at 75, in the year 2000 and became the honorary president for life of the association. This book is his memoir and experiences. A great read for anyone interested in demonology, abnormal psychology and possession.
An Exorcist Tells His Story.......2007-08-17
I truly loved this book and this very great Priest. This "An Exorcist Tells his Story" gives the most clear and concise explanation of evil and the works of Satan without being sensational. Firstly Gabriel Amorth is a very intelligent man and a superb writer you will appreciate his style of writing he is a terrific writer without being pretentious, he is not one of those fake intellectuals. I learned much, it gave me a deeper understanding of my faith and the vital importance of The Catholic Church in this age. I am not a superstitious person, but I do believe in what the Church teaches on Satan and evil. I was very impressed with the great faith of this man and he seems to practice his Priesthood like a very great doctor and surgeon. The scientific and religious become one. Some of the answers given by people possesed were very interesting on Hell & the disbelief in God. Gabriel Amorth is a hero in an age that has so few. I believe that everyone should read this book even if you are not a Catholic. It is a Shame that many Priest are not aware of the great Power they have been given by Christ through his Church. When a Priest Exorcises someone possessed with the power of The Roman Catholic Church they cannot fail. Faith is the key. Christ built his Church on a Rock and the gates Of Hell will not prevail upon it. I wish more Priest had the Faith of Gabriel Amorth and the great love that exist in his heart.
powerful, fascinating.......2007-05-16
If you have any interest in the Rite of Exorcism as practiced by the Roman Catholic Church, then this book is a definite "must have"! It should be required reading for all priests and seminarians in the Church.
In the book, Fr. Amorth laments that many priests and bishops no longer believe in Satan or demons, and yet they do exist. Throughout the book, he gives example after example of how evil spirits and curses have afflicted peoples' lives, and how he was able to cast them out and produce cures using the Rite of Exorcism.
The Rite of Exorcism can only be performed by bishops, or by priests appointed by the bishop to act in his place. Fr. Amorth makes it very clear that at least in the Catholic church, only priests and bishops, and then only with a bishop's permission, can the Rite of Exorcism be performed. Nevertheless, he does acknowledge that lay people may pray for deliverance in the Catholic church, and that Protestant deliverance can be just as effective in exorcising spirits from people.
The book is very information and down to Earth. It is not sensationalized or dramatized, but presents a very real picture of the power the devil can have in our lives, and the power of Jesus over the devil and his demons. Fr. Amorth calls all people to prayer, and calls on all bishops to appoint at least one exorcist, so that the tradition can be revived and passed on.

an excorist tells his story.......2007-01-11
I found this book very informative on the subject of excorism's as a minster that is non demoninatioal this book was a conformation to me on how the Lord has led me in this area. Although I did not agree on some doctorial issues I would recommen this book as a starting point for all ministers that are interested or that have been placed in the role of an excorist or know someone who has.
A True Exorcist.......2007-01-03
This book was written by an Italian priest who has held a very high position in Rome as an exorcist. If you are interested in exorcisms and demonic possession this seems to be a credible source that is not sensationalized. Although the book is written mainly as an instuctional book for other clergy, and did not include as many true incidents during exorcisms as I would have liked, it was still interesting to read. The follow-up book 'An Exorcist: More Stories' is very similar in content.
