It is very basic, but easy to understand.......2007-08-06
I got the information that I needed to get started on stain glass creation, it is a very basic book. It is easy to understand and has step by step instructions for both copper foil and lead techniques and supply lists for both!
Basic Stained Glass Making.......2007-07-07
This is an excellent tutorial book. A very good option for the beginners that need "how to" in making stained glass projects. Excellent pictures by Alan Wycheck.
Must Have For Stained Glass Beginners.......2007-06-19
This book comes ring bound with a sturdy cover which makes it easy to keep open while working or just reading easily. It is very detailed and has great pictures showing each step. It explains very well from enviroment, tools, glass, techniques and a few example projects. It is overall a high quality book and is extremely organized and informative. A must have for anyone wanting to get off to a good start in stained glass.
This is the book that will teach me how to make stained glass!!.......2007-05-21
I have bought at least 10 books on how to do Stained Galss. Sure wish I had bought this one first!! It is by far the very best how-to book I have found for this subject. It is well written and the photographs are clear and well done. It has this awesome binding that covers the spiral binding. I for one think All craft books should be bound this way. It lies flat on the table with out you having to find a stand to put it in so you can have it open while you work. It takes you step by step through the projects with lots of photographs to help you along. Being a visual learner this is perfect for me. There is also another book by the same author called Beyond Basic Stained Glass Making and I'm on my way to buy that book also, as soon as I finish writting thie review. The only problem with this, and many others, is that it doesn't tell you how to resize a pattern. But if you have a Kinko's or Office Max near you this is not a problem. They can enlarge your patterns for you. For me I have to find a differant solution because I don't have anything like that near me. I did find a program that will do it for you and will tile the pages so you can tape them together, but haven't tried that out yet so I can't say how it works. Ok, now I'm done and I'm off to buy the second book for myself. I hope everyone has a Great Day!!
Excellent Book for Beginners in Stained Glass.......2007-05-13
Found the book to be helpful and to take me step by step through the different stages of completing a project and illustrating it with pictures.
Book Description

— all in a wide range of sizes and shapes.

Jeff's review.......2007-04-03
The cover gives 14 color examples. The 78 pages are packed with
an average of 8 black and white outlines to a page.
This is a lot of ideas but would be challenging to enlarge for
pattern making. A limited range of symetric styles are divided
into four groups.
Design by eras/styles.......2007-01-10
This book is not my cup of tea, but it's great for someone who's looking for a design from a certain era. The book is broken down by the different eras or styles: Victorian Geometric, Art Nouveau, Victorian Floral, Edwardian, and 1920's. All the designs have a lot of horizontal and vertical lines in them. Also, it's all in black and white so you have to use your imagination to color it. The back of the front cover and back cover has examples in color.
Stained Glass Designs from Dover.......2006-08-08
This is an excellent resource book for stained glass artisans. It has a variety of styles and eras in easy to duplicate drawings. Projects range from easy to intricate, designs (in some instances) can be mixed and matched.
Dover has a good selection of stained glass books which provide wonderful references to many and varied types of stained glass design.
Helpful!.......2006-07-21
I've been looking for ideas for simple patterns; this book helped me a lot!
Great book and great ideas.......2006-07-06
This book is great for traditional patterns, specially for the ones from Great Bretain. It shows different types of patterns depending on the period of influence, like Edwardian, Art Deco and others. I wished the patterns showed some color!!!!
Book Description
Popular among designers and crafters, the circular symmetry of mandala designs also makes them fun to color. This eye-catching collection of "stained glass" illustrations invites coloring book fans to apply their hues to a variety of these intriguing patterns, complete with centerpieces of human faces, florals, mythical creatures, and abstract designs.
Customer Reviews:
Nice but . . ........2007-09-30
These are nice designs. But like all Dover Coloring Books, the designs are printed back to back. So if you use markers to color, like I mostly do, they bleed through and ruin the back design. If you prefer to use pencils to color, then this is a nice book--as are many of the Dover series.
excellent.......2007-01-10
i've truly enjoyed the mandalas stained glass coloring book. It's very calming and soothing which allows you to forget the stresses of everyday. the designs are awesome!
Excellent selection of designs.......2006-07-19
There is a good selection of designs, and the print is on both sides of the page. The mandala will come out in much more vibrant colors if you use fine tip markers and color on both sides. The look beautiful in my windows and my only problem is that they don't perforate the edges of the page, so tearing the finished product out of the book is sort of a pain.
Mandalas Stained Glass Coloring Book.......2006-03-25
I found them kind of hard to color with pencils. The colors were not as vibrant as I had they would be. The designs, however were great.
two uses: coloring book and "stained glass" window decor.......2006-03-12
My 6-year-old daughter and I both enjoy coloring these mandalas and hanging them in the windows.

This book RULES!! and it is hardcover. Chuck full of groovy projects and nifty tips for all levels of glass wranglers. I fully endorse it, and am itching to get started on the next project!
Cool projects.......2007-04-11
I have been working with stained glass for awhile now,and I am always looking for new ideas.I could not afford the classes and materials,so I got hired on in a glass shop. Now,I make things all the time, for other people. This book gave me some some great ideas of things to make for the garden.Flowers don't last forever, but glass looks beautiful and lasts for a long time.I love the sprinklers,I think they are lovely!
Something different.......2007-04-10
I enjoy using this book, it is well laid out with materials list for every project, it has easy to follow steps, very clear illustrations and lovely ideas.
Like most books there are some projects I don't particularly like - but other people may like them, even so these projects can lead to new ideas using different types of materials.
It also contains some challenging projects that in time - who knows I may take on
What I was looking for.......2007-01-22
I am a novice in stained glass...I know the fundamentals of cutting, soldering, finishing, etc.. What this book provides is some really cool extensions and applications of the basic skills. There are awesome designs that will be great in any garden either as a gift or, if you are an artist looking to produce pieces, works that will sell themselves.
Book Description
Brilliant Stained Glass Mosaics combines two popular crafts into one exciting new art form. While most traditional opaque mosaics can be attractive and fun, they lack the creativity and excitement provided by the addition of stained glass. Glass-on-glass mosaic projects come to life because they can be illuminated by candlelight, incandescent or natural light.
This book illustrates simple mosaic techniques that can be used to create stunning, sophisticated designs for both home and garden décor. There are 12 glass mosaic projects in all, including windows, vases, candleholders, picture frames, light fixtures and more!
Book Description
Outstanding collection of 78 royalty-free motifs focusing on nature themes — the sun, bamboo plants, long reeds and grasses; floral scenes with birds, small animals, fish, plus many abstract designs, all imbued with the lovely, tranquil lines and rhythms of nature. Varied shapes make the designs adaptable to wide range of projects.
Customer Reviews:
Good Designs but no color guides for clarity.......2006-06-27
The designs are very good. The problem I see with this book is there no finished designs or color guides. If you are new to stained glass it could be difficult to visualize a finished design. But all in all a good design book.
Interesting designs but the title is misleading.......2003-09-15
I found some very interesting nature patterns in this book, but almost a fifth of the book contained designs (at least 12) which I found unrecognizable as anything belonging to nature or anything else. If you are into these abstract designs, then this is an added bonus. I was disappointed and would rather have had traditional nature designs as pictured on the cover.

"Prairie Designs..." is a book of 56 original designs by Alex Spatz in the Prairie School of design, which was started by Frank Lloyd Wright. It has designs in circles, rectangles and free-form shapes, in varying complexities for hobbyists of different levels.
Customer Reviews:
Good resource book.......2007-01-10
This is a good book for someone wanting to do period stained glass work for their house or for just doing stained glass.
Very good ilustrations of Praire Design examples.......2007-01-09
The book is very useful for the ones who want start on the Praire Design stained glass technique very popular on Frank Lloyd Wright's praire houses.
Prairie Designs for Stained Glass Windows.......2006-01-18
I am a fan of the Arts and Crafts Movement in the United States, as exemplified in Mission and Prairie designs. I used this book to assist me in designing tile and mosaic murals using themes from the Arts and Crafts period. With a little time, a copy machine, and some colored pencils, you can make some original designs for use in your own home or business.
Nice Designs But No Photos of Finished Projects.......2000-08-01
This book has some very nice designs, but I was disappointed that there were no photographs of completed projects. I am not very familiar with the prairie style, so I would have liked getting some suggestion from the designer as to possible colors, textures, and layout. A few of the patterns have shading (10 out of 48) to suggest color layouts, but of course the design I wanted to make was not shaded (Murphy's Law I guess).
Customer Reviews:
Thorough and useful - great reference too!.......2007-10-03
If you are new or have some experience with fusing glass, this is THE book to start with...maybe stick with! The projects begin with the basics and work up to complex -- and if you are creative you can modify the project to fit your skill level. Based on the other warm glass books (too many to name here), I found this book was the one I grabbed for nearly every aspect of general glass fusing, particularly when using the fiberboard product discussed and used solely in this book. The author describes other tidbits that are not covered in projects, but if you are savvy enough, you can follow her lead in expanding your own projects when doing the ones given in the book (e.g. making pendants, jewelry items). I strongly recommend this book for its clarity, training and inspiration to use your own creativity with warm glass for YOUR design ideas.
mold ideas.......2007-09-15
This book had some interesting ideas for me on how to use molds which I had not used before. This book spurred me to make my own and gave me the confidence that I would not make horrid errors in my kiln. My efforts to make my own were very successful. I was particularly interested in the Kaiser board for future projects. Any book that can give at least a few workable ideas is worthwhile for me. Easier than attending a workshop.
thin and lacking creativity and variety.......2007-06-10
The book lacked the detail for the beginner. Not very creative examples, colors and project ideas were a bit shallow, though it does give me ideas on how to build on the examples. The main theme seemed to be the use of the authors product the Kaiser Fiber Board. The book uses illustrations and examples of small jewelry and art objects. I am interested in more practical examples like wall lamps and candle holders, and a bit more diverse examples and background. Example: more information on different glass types and how they work together, the possibility for this medium to be used a replacement for stained glass, the use of Reusche paints to color the glass before firing. I did not think the examples were very practical or really very creative, the color coordinations were not too good either. I did find some useful information in this book though, but I would appreciate more pages too, it is quite thin.
Happy I bought the book.......2007-02-26
I learned to fuse with Kaiser's first book, Introduction to Glass Fusing, and when I saw she had a second book; I couldn't wait to read it! It is written in a similar style -- a lesson is given to complete a specific project and teach specific technical techniques. This "learn-by-doing" appeals to me more than a book that is full of technical information with some projects at the end.
What I love about the new book:
1) I like the fusing schedules gathered together on one page at the front of the book.
2) I like the discussion of each stage of the fusing process.
3) However, for me, Lesson 1 & 2 are more than worth the cost of the book! Lesson 1 is jewelry techniques using fine silver and embedding CZ's. Lesson 2 is about making jewelery displays. I immediately ordered some fine silver to try out the jewelry ideas!
Should you get book 1 or 2? Well, I think they are affordable enough and the projects lovely enough to own both. But here are some factors to consider.
Book 1 seems to have a few more projects to do in a small kiln (less than 8"x8"). It has a section that walks you through a fusing session. My first fusing session, I had the book in hand watching carefully and a fire extinguisher near by. Now I laugh at my early concerns. But I felt like I had someone holding my hand. There are detailed discussion about everything a newbie should know -- for instance whether to use thinfire or kiln wash.
Book 2 -- most of the projects are for a medium kiln. However, there is enough information that a newbie could use this book as a starting point. There is lots of information on molds and some information on pattern bars and combing which are not in the first book. And, the jewelry section that I mentioned above.
If you're looking for a book to start you in glass fusing, then either or both of Kaiser's book are worthwhile investments.

Excellent pattern book.......2006-10-19
I have this book and have referred to it many times and have used several of the patterns. There is a nice variety and the patterns cover a broad collection of interests and tastes. Excellent book and a must have in the stained glass studio.
It is Ok but..........2005-07-19
The designs are wonderful;however, they are all in black and white.. I expected more...
great designs abound.......2003-09-14
Not only were there great traditional designs, but I also found some beautiful and unique nature designs which I hadn't seen in other stained glass books and I was definitely pleased. The contemporary designs range from fairly simple to complex, but do not contain patterns that are unrecognizable as some stained glass patterns books do. This book definitely has variety, variety, variety.
A regular source of inspiration for me.......2000-11-22
I have used a good number of the designs presented in this book for my own creations. Lots of contemporary floral designs and some traditional victorian patterns. Projects range from relatively simple to very complex - designs that fit very well in homes as in commercial establishments. I have adapted one design in this book to be placed in a piece of furniture that I created. All is in black and white, no pictures of completed projects.

Creative Techniques For Stained Glass.......2007-07-06
Good book mainly for those that are looking for creative projects in 3D.
Very good pictures.
Brilliantly Creative, Clear and Concise.......2006-07-10
I have tried stained glass with several different instructors, but without a lot of success. The instructors had their own technique and were busy with a lot of students. This terrific book shows you the way and not only with words but with the pictures and all the steps needed. Obviously the authors are experienced teachers, creative and educated in their art.
I highly recommend this book to anyone from beginners to advanced. You will want to keep it for learning and reference. The book gives education on everything you would need to know about stained glass. Wish my previous instructors had read this book. Enjoy!
Interesting and Fun!.......2006-02-04
If you want to venture outside the realm of traditional stained glass creations, this book is for you! There are several projects in this book that take minor steps away from the traditional techniques and far more that go beyond. It was fun from start to finish...a must have for any stained glass library!
Great Intermediate Ideas.......2005-09-21
This was full of interesting, out-of-the-ordinary, ideas.
There are far better books out there if you are a rank beginner, but if you have started to master some of the beginning techniques and are looking to expand your "repertoire" this is the book. It has some really creative ideas for projects that are beyond the basics but don't require expertise either.
The directions are detailed and easy to follow with plenty of full-color photos.
