Customer Reviews:
A very good book for self-learner.......2002-05-27
My boss asked me to develop a leave system. I have no experience about Access VBA before. I bought a lot of books. However most of them are too thick and theoretical. No step by step examples are provided. Fortunately after reading this one, I can finish my task now.
Microsoft Access 2000 with Visual Basic for Applications.......2002-04-20
I consider this book to be ideal for people needing real hands on knowledge of Access. I'm using it in self-study to learn advanced concepts and VBA. I feel this is the ideal text for the self-learner.
This is a superbly organized and clearly written book that anyone with an intermediate knowledge of Access who's interested in moving forward into VBA will appreciate. The figures and illustrations are well-integrated with the text, allowng the pictures and the words to work together to improve the knowledge of the reader. It's a good balance between theory and practice. It's difficult to point out specific qualities. In short, I think the strength of this book lies in it's organization and clarity of text.
The "Reference Window" concept gives a general overview of the procedure being taught. This has helped me understand the "big picture" and gives me ideas on using the concepts in my existing databases. The book is also a gold mine of good ideas that I'll be able to incorporate into my databases. Additionally, a well-detailed table of contents and good organization makes it fairly easy to find what you're looking for. All the above makes this book a keeper for future reference.
Technical concepts and overviews enhance the ability for the reader to learn some very challenging procedures. They are presented on an "as needed" basis and in sufficient quantity to increase understanding without being technically overwhelming.

Customer Reviews:
I give it an A..........2006-12-30
I needed this book for one of my college classes and the Amazon price was almost 3/4 cheaper then in the schools book store. This book was only used for about 3-4 months and from what I saw from the textbook... it was great. I learned a lot and I might keep it around just in case I need it for a future math class. But overall, I give it an A...
An education in perspective.......2005-09-20
This is one of the best and most informative books on the subject of perspective I've read or studied. Thank you very much for making this book available.
Clear guide to basic perspective.......2004-06-18
For some reason, perspective is the boogey-man of many people learning to draw. It doesn't have to be that way. This book will help you put that sense of solidity and reality into a drawing.
This book gives a clear, step by step introduction to the basics of drawing in perspective. Interior and exterior; 1-, 2-, and 3-point; they're all here. The techniques are all graphical, and require only basic ability to handle simple drafting tools.
As the title says, this covers just the basics. It covers them thoroughly, so the hard-working reader should come away from it with very usable skills.
Not just for engineers and architects........2003-02-02
I got this book because I had a floor plan that I wanted to make into a 3D or at least 2D home elevation. I've never taken a drawing course and before this, everything I drew was rubbery or floating. :-)
I found this book to be a great help, even in drawing circles, cylinders and curves. It explains shading and light sources, multiple vanishing points, intersecting just about anything and even gives you an idea of how to draw unique shapes in a 3D perspective. All the examples are step-by-step progressions of each concept and really show you how to do it.
You don't have to know sines and cosines, and you don't need a compass or protractor (although they might help). All you need is a pencil, ruler and eraser.
About 85% of the book is dedicated to shapes and structures, but there are also examples of furniture, cars and even people.
An excellent starting point for drawing in perspective.

Some of the examples are old, out dated methods.......1999-10-09
Overall, this text is not bad, although several instructional areas are out-dated material, ie: marking "shell casings, "bullets", on the face, etc. Also, todays training does not include marking handguns on every piece that can be removed, ie: frame, cylinder, barrel, grips, etc.

Book Description
As a primary text, Analyzing the Curriculum provides the backbone for a basic curriculum course at either the senior or graduate level. The book shows how the parts of a curriculum fit together and how to identify assumptions underlying curricula. In doing so, students develop the ability to determine why a curriculum proves better for some students than for others; what approaches to teaching are compatible with a particular curriculum; what difficulties a curriculum is likely to encounter during implementation; and what kinds of changes in the curriculum parents, students, and administrators are likely to demand. These are valuable skills for evaluating, selecting and adapting existing programs to suit particular situations.

Curriculum Review from Hawaii.......2006-08-13
Mr. Posner's writing style infused both a sense of the practical, with enough theoretical background to create a readable textbook. As I traversed through the chapters, I slowly began to ccomprehend the true complexity of writing and interpreting curriculum. And, once I completed his book, I felt as though I had learned an entirely new way of viewing curriculum, not as a static document, but rather, as an active voice, and constantly evolving essential component of the professional educator's toolbox.
Many Thanks.
Respectfully,
Mark Kazuo Bradley

Best Primer on Curriculum Available.......2003-09-13
After you get over sticker shock on the price of this book, buy it if you are in need of a basic understanding of how curriculum has been organized and developed in American education. No other publication is comparable to it for its succinct overview of the curriculum process and those who have most profoundly shaped it. However, it does not provide in-depth commentary on the movers and shakers in this field. Likewise, those seeking a detailed history of curriculum development are advised to look elsewhere. I used this book in a curriculum course I taught and students found it quite accessible.
A good start to understanding curriculum changes, and fights.......1999-12-10
Posner's field is curriculum development, and he has written extensively about how teachers, administrators, supervisors, and ultimately the public thinks about curriculum and curriculum reform. In this book, Analyzing the Curriculum, he presents tools to understand the conflicts within education and education reform, by underlining the implicit assumptions in all forms of curriculum reform. These assumptions include (1) how learners learn, (2) how teachers teach, (3) the locus of reform (university-based, collegially based in the school); (4) the political contexts of reform. He provides several detailed examples of curriculum analysis, ranging from Jerome Bruner's Man: A Course of Study and Jerrold Zacharias' Physical Science Study Committee (both university-based reform curricula) to the "whole language" movement. In each case he is fair to the merits and demerits of the curriculum in question.
This is the kind of book you can imagine teacher education colleges use. It has a steep price and apparently is not discounted.

Basic Pharmacology.......2000-03-26
"Basic Pharmacology" is a godsend to the the pharmacy technician student and classroom. I find this book to be exceptionally well written in an easy-to-understand format. This format unlike other text books allows the student to visualize medications (photograph) which is not found in other text books of this type. The information provided is the best that I have ever read in a pharmacology book. I think that not only will individuals benefit, college programs will charish this text also.

A must-have for any artist........2002-10-02
I don't work in watercolors, I quilt, and I've found this book invaluable as a guide to understanding perspective.
An excellent addition to any beginners collection.......2000-05-16
North Light, the publishers of the Watercolor Basics series has hit paydirt once again with Phil Metzgers' Perspective Secrets. In direct simple and engaging language Metzger takes you through the many types of perspective without terrifying you with wordy rules and procedures. It is all covered in this handy and educational volume. You move through beautiful examples of putting space and the illusion of air in your paintings to the subtle issues of close-up perspective such as with bricks. There is also some information on perspective dealing with stairs and inclines all supported by Mr. Metzger's handsome paintings. As with other volumes in this series the subject matter is gone into both more deeply and with more approachable and beautiful artwork. This is a must have for any budding painter.

Customer Reviews:
Nice and Easy.......2006-03-23
The book came in a timely fashion along with its "Creative Drawing" counterpart and has been exactly what I needed for my art class at school.
A bit lost in descriptions..........2003-10-11
Unfortunately, I would too often come out the other end of a chapter realizing that I had only really learned a small handful of facts that I could universally use. The convoluted drawing descriptions tended to leave me a bit cross-eyed and I found the illustration captions did a better job of explaining what the entire page just did. Still, it does offer enough useful information overall, but despite all the drawing technique, does not really offer many basic solid rules of perspective. Leans a bit more on memorizing techniques in an array of possible circumstances rather than understanding the basics which can then be applied to any circumstance. The book is worth reading however, particularly since it is so short that you will hardly lose anything by doing so, and will likely gain some useful knowledge along the way.
Definitely not a FAQ. . ........2002-05-28
I have to differ with the positive review of this book. I have a little experience drawing, and had some specific questions about perspective, such as how to draw a receding row of arches. This book answered none of my questions. The first several chapters focus on conceptual basics, often drifting toward common sense rather than solid technique. (I don't need to be told that tall buildings seem smaller at the top stories; I need to know how to use that realistically in a drawing). Complicated (and practical) applications of perspective, like portraying rooms full of furniture, are given short shrift. There are exceptions - the chapter dealing with cast shadows, especially the detailed treatment of light on complicated surfaces like stairs, is well-done and potentially very useful - it's the only reason I have not thrown this book out. I don't know of a good practical overview of perspective drawing for all levels, but I have gotten a lot more useful instruction out of the amusingly dated (and cheaper) "Perspective for Artists" by Rex Vicat Cole.
Definitely worth 5 stars.......2002-01-02
Perspective drawing is one of the skills many people see as neccessary repertoir for an artist to have. Particularly for subjects such as architecture or some types of still life. The subjects covered in this book include everything from 1,2 and 3 point perspective to circles, ovals, cylinders, squares, rectangles, inclined planes and an entire chapter on cast shadows during different points throughout the day, shadows on overcast days or from artificial light.
The author explains everything in a clear manner without talking down to the reader. He says this book grew out of his 30+ years teaching perspective to art students at San Jose State University. Each concept is shown with plenty of examples and details and the author assumes the reader will practice each of them. One of the last chapters is on Visualization - basically drawing a picture in perspective using the rules and concepts as test that you truly asorbed all the preceding lessons. While I am sure there are other good books on perspective available, I was quite pleased with this one. A lot of beginning How-To Draw type books never give more than a cursory mention of one or maybe two-point perspective. For the majority of artists this book will be all they'll ever need on the subject. There is enough material here that it will probably take at least 6 months to really get a good feel for everything it covers. The book contains a glossary and index. For the amount of information given it is very affordable.
