Book Description

Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.

5 out of 5 stars Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19

Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.

5 out of 5 stars Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09

There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.

For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.

5 out of 5 stars Very Interesting.......2007-03-07

It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.

4 out of 5 stars History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10

Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.

I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.

Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.

Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.

I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.

This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description

The little skyscraper didn't always seem so little. At one glorious time he was the tallest and most impressive building in the entire city. People traveled from near and far to take in the view from his observation deck and pass the time in his pretty little park. But as time passed and the city grew and grew, people forgot about the little skyscraper. His bright, shiny spire became dull and tarnished, and his beautiful park was turned into a parking lot. Then, just when his own future looked darkest, the little skyscraper learns that he hadn't been forgotten. And all it took was the determination of an old friend to change the minds of an entire city.

5 out of 5 stars More than meets the sky.......2004-07-04

As a volunteer reader at a children's shelter, I purchased this book for many reasons.
First, the illustrations. The very talented Mr. Santoro knows his audience. The children wanted to look long and hard at the pictures. Each turn of the page was met with "oohs," "aahs" and "cooools" from my young audience.
Second was the storyline of the skyscraper watching the changes of the surrounding territory and what those changes meant to the skyscraper.
The third reason (and deciding factor) was the storyline of the little boy who was inspired by the skyscraper and followed his dream.
After reading this story to the children I ask the questions, "What changes in your environment have changed you?" and (my favorite) "What in your life inspires you the way the skyscraper inspired the little boy?" The answers make for a lengthy and inspired session. I wish I could describe the looks on the kid's faces as they think about the questions.

However, here's a story of why I felt I must write a review of this book:
One day, after reading this book to the children, I packed my bookbag and headed for the door. Before I reached the exit, a child who rarely reacts to any book (or anything for that matter), stopped me and said, "You know, I actually liked that book. It was good." He turned around and walked away, following the other children into the area that is 'for residents only.' I stopped in my tracks and thought, "Now, THAT is a great review of a good book." You had to be there.

5 out of 5 stars Another great book!.......2001-12-12

I already have scott's first book, "Isaac", and just got his newest book, the Little Skyscraper yesterday. This book is wonderful! The illustrations are captivating and colorful, story line is simple, and easy to follow. Children once again will love this book, as well as the parents. You'll cheer when Jack comes back and saves his old friend, the skyscraper. This book is one to put under your tree this year, and in your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Newer is not always better!.......2001-11-25

In an age where technology is moving us ever-faster into the future, as well as the uncertainty that has been brought with war, people are turning more and more to the security and comfort of the past, of things closer to home, of memories that bring joy and peace to their hearts. The Little Skyscraper does exactly that. It conjures up images of a simpler society, simpler life where it was routine to help others, where character, integrity and hardwork were still the keys to success. Where the old was not destroyed by the new -- but where the value of both was seen and combined to make a better world. The Little Skyscraper learned he didn't have to be tall and ultra-modern to make an impression -- that the greatest gift he had and could offer was just to be himself. The easy-to-read text and wonderful illustrations present this valuable lesson in a way that will bring readers back to this book again and again!

5 out of 5 stars Illuminates the World, Stimulates the Mind.......2006-05-14

This was the book that introduced me to my favorite painter, by far. Unable to find this book when the one I had began to fall apart, I had my copy rebound in leather. About the best thing is the organization: from the early facades, to streets, to panoramas and portraits. Looking at these paintings brings my mind into focus like nothing else.

One of the strangest experiences I've ever had was visiting the site of Estes' "View From Twin Peaks," 1990, in late 1996 and showing the painting to the vending guy in the white hat (his name is Mike); he had no idea he was in this great painting!

Estes' artistry is absolute perfection. I have never thought much of most "photorealists," but Estes is a superrealist who not only captures the urban landscape in both its vastness and minutest detail, but stylizes the paintings with a perspective that is lucid and clear. I can't recommend this book enough.

Many decorative-painting books concentrate on a limited range of simple wooden surfaces. This one instead chooses innovative destinations for the more experienced paintbrush: salt and pepper shakers, a flour sifter, a table runner, cabinets, a lamp base. By applying decorative-painting techniques to entire scenes rather than isolated motifs, author Catherine Holman endows her work with a delightful folk-art flair. The book's title tells the truth: these scenes really are charming, and the choice of subject matter is pleasantly suited to each object. A quaint brick tea shoppe adorns a little teapot; a snow-filled landscape complete with warmly lit houses beneath a starry sky bestrides the tin shade of an oil lamp; the large four-bin cabinet sports a scene for each season; the umbrella stand features (of course) a rainy countryside topped by a rainbow. Look closely to be rewarded by wonderful details hidden in the scenes--a lacy hammock, a glass of lemonade, a scarecrow, a woman gardening. Full scene patterns, color-keyed charts of paints, and detailed materials lists accompany the superb directions and good color photos, and ordering information is provided for each of the nine items to be decorated. Basic decorative painting skills are a must before attempting these projects, but with such good guidance even the brave novice may produce something to be proud of. --Amy Handy

I love Charles Wysocki's art and I got this book for less than $7.00. At that price it's worth it--it's only 48 pages. I wasn't overly crazy about the verse and prose, but the pictures are wonderful. If you love Charles Wysocki's art and you can pick this up for a good price then get it.

      Book Description

In 1906 a young painter named Robert Spencer moved from the hustle and bustle of New York City to the bucolic Bucks County region in nearby southeastern Pennsylvania. Over the next twenty-five years, Spencer became one of the most prominent artists in the Pennsylvania impressionist art colony, a group of nationally known landscape painters centered in the picturesque village of New Hope. His first major success came when the Metropolitan Museum of Art purchased Repairing the Bridge in 1914. He won a gold medal in 1915 at the prestigious Panama-Pacific International Exposition in San Francisco. After Spencer's death, the celebrated collector Duncan Phillips praised him as "a rebel always against the standardized and stereotyped in art." Phillips believed that there was "no other painter, not John Sloan, or Edward Hopper, more pungently American in expression."In matters of style, Spencer differed radically from his Pennsylvania impressionist colleagues. He made his reputation with skillful, evocative renderings of the everyday life of his community, often depicting the mills, tenements, and factories of New Hope and the surrounding areas. "A landscape without a building or a figure," he said, "is a very lonely picture to me." Later Spencer began to experiment with a looser, more spontaneous style, and he painted more fanciful European scenes, many of which were done from his imagination. Spencer's canvas Mountebanks and Thieves won a prize at the 1926 Carnegie International Exhibition in Pittsburgh, and juror Pierre Bonnard said, "Mr. Spencer . . . is in the full vigor of his talent, which is great. His art does not resemble European art, a rare fact in America."Spencer battled depression throughout his adult life and committed suicide in 1931. This book tells the story of Spencer's colorful yet tragic life, using as sources the written recollections of his two daughters as well as extensive new research. Illustrated with nearly seventy-five color images from major museums and private collections, the book examines the artist's work in depth, from his unformed beginnings to his mature New York City and European images. Extensive excerpts from his correspondence with Duncan Phillips and from press articles and reviews are also included, making The Cities, the Towns, the Crowds the definitive study of this important American painter.

I'm sorry to say this book is VERY disappointing! The text is good, but the images and reproductions are of poor quality. After all, why does one buy an art book? For reasonably faithful images! I have seen actual Spencer paintings before, and the colors of the reproductions in this book are so far off from the colors of the original paintings that it is a shame to attribute them to the wonderful American painter Robert Spencer.
