Painting Ease.......2007-04-02
I enjoyed the instructions in this book. First, a detailed explanation of how to complete each type of stroke is given. Then, the book has detailed information on how to paint many different types of flowers and arrangements. And finally,(this is the best part) it goes on to explain how to create original arrangements depending on the surface space the painter has to work with. This book was well written and easy to follow
My Favorite Donna Dewberry Book!.......2007-03-31
This book is awesome! I have many of Donna's books but this is my favorite. I've been painting using the One Stroke method for about 5 months and I'm HOOKED! I've taken 13 classes with my local OSCI since then, which is the best way to improve your OS painting skills, but this book is a great compliment to those classes. Donna uses about 15 pages in the beginning of the book to go over materials, techniques and colors. Then she covers 50 flowers/blooms using 2 pages for each. The picture of her finished piece is a full page and of course very colorful. Then on the opposite page it lists the brushes and paints you'll need and a step by step guide on how to paint the flower(s). But it doesn't stop there. She uses 14 pages at the end to cover filler flowers and floral composition. Finally the last 2 pages are a gallery of floral project ideas. This is an invaluable resource! Enjoy!
If ou are into this, get this one first........2006-09-01
I checked out all her books and this one is the most complete. It shows most of what she paints on TV. Her other books cover mostly one type, this is packed.
I can't give you any more details because I didn't purchase this to learn her technique; I am a watercolorist and was looking to see if she had any interesting movements of the brush that I haven't seen yet.
donna dewberry flowers.......2005-09-14
Beautifully presented book and worth every penny. However, patience is needed by the bucket load and I suggest to have taken lessons before trying these lovely paintings.Once you know how the world is your oyster .
A lot of information!.......2005-07-19
This is my favorite One Stroke book thus far. However, I had already purchased her video "flowers for all seasons" and the "one stroke painting course" and "easy murals" books, so I had a feel for the basics. Her books tend to have some of the same information in each (which I find annoying), but "flowers A to Z" has a lot of variety, so you can learn a lot of techniques just by going through and trying the different flowers. I disagree with the reviewer who claimed the pictures are of poor quality...they look fine to me. Overall, I think this book is a good value.

Not much to look at.......2007-09-13
I found that that designd in the book were all very similiar and not much in the way of sparking any creativity. Don't bother with this one since there are much better ones out there. Go with "4000 Flower and Plant Motifs"
Useful if..........2007-07-24
This book has a lot of designs of more or less the same style (like that you see on the cover.) If you're into leather tooling, embroidery, or rugmaking, you might like this book, as that's what these images remind me of. The book does mention that they're all from the same antique source, so while there are a lot of very nice designs, there isn't a lot of variety. If the style of the images on the book's cover don't appeal to you, then I wouldn't recommend buying this book, because that's the one and only style of image this book contains.
Just as I thought it would be..........2007-05-11
I am a freelance artist and was looking for a good source of stylized florals/paisleys for some drawings that I wanted to do...this book fits the bill perfectly! The designs are full of detail and the book carries enough variety to supply my needs for a very long time.
With the added use of my own imagination, I can see myself happily referring to it for when ever my needs cross over into this type of theme. The only way to make it better would be to make it hold even more than it already does...
Well done!
Dover does it again.......2006-11-05
Another excellent book from Dover. Unlike many design books, this book has many variations on stylized flower designs.
Interesting starting point for floral graphics.......2001-07-31
The graphics are crisp and very reproduceable. The majority of the flowers are a little dated, but easily altered. There is a wide variety of different motiffs from traditional colonial to Indian in orientation.

An Excellent Reference Book.......2007-01-18
This book has more information on brushstrokes and liner details than the last four acrylic painting books I've read put together.
The Brushstroke Handbook: the ultimate guide to decorative painting brushstrokes.......2007-01-04
This beautifully illustrated book covers the basics such as materials and brush loading etc (Maureen paints with two colours on the brush). She covers round and flat brushes and shows the brushstrokes in detail and how they can be used. There is a section showing some common mistakes and how to avoid these, as well as sections on borders and floral compositions (with patterns). I liked the clear text, illustrations and the spiral binding of the book which allowed it to lay flat while working through the "lessons". The book is a good guide for those with some painting experience and is an excellent reference book.

The book is very well illistrated and instructions are very clear.
Great Book, Informative.......2006-07-03
I already do one stroke painting and found this book a great addition to what I already know. For the beginner who's never done Decorative painting, a few hands on classes and this book and you're good to go. For the artist who's already familiar with painting and strokes (although this book teaches you strokes) it's a wonderful addition full of ideas and techniques.

Garden Decor Rocks.......2004-10-01
This book really showed me how to use decorative painting on tht outside of my home. I loved the the patterns in the book that can be enlargened for those who are afraid to "Free Hand" paint. One of the best parts is showing how to take "essential" items such as trash cans, fences, and clay pots and turn them into works of art. It also contains an excellent step by step of painting a realist bunny. I was amazed on how easily it was accomplished.
Same stuff.......2004-03-24
Just another Donna Dewberry book with the same designs painted on different surfaces. I was very disappointed that there was nothing new offered in this book.

Start here if you are a beginning watercolor flower painter.......2002-01-01
It was sheer luck that I picked up this book. I had finished stenciling all my walls, all the wood in my house and was looking for a way to continue when I picked up this wonderful book. It's perfect for a beginner. I loved it and every painting lesson in it. She's clear, she goes at the reader's pace. This isn't for advanced artists or even hobbyists in watercolor of long standing, but it got me into the wonderful world of watercolor painting, a medium I had never tried. Jackson should write more books and give more advanced lessons. Great book.
This is the Best Book I own.......2001-10-19
The lessons are super - also gives you templates to
produce the same pictures with help features along the
way
You can paint flowers with Louise.......2001-03-23
When using this book I found it easy to understand the preliminary sketches and follow them quite easily. The explanations about colors, how to mix them in order to get shades and contrast are superbly explained. The materials used an how to handle them are clear, and "secrets" about which amount of water to use, the techniques of wet over wet and wet on dry are perfectly understandable and easy to follow. once you tested you learned al the "how tos" you can try your own design. Yet, I'd have liked to see more step to step indications if this publication was directed to beginners. This publication is a must for amateur and self-trained watercolorists but not for fresh beginners.
Author's Generosity to Fledglings.......2000-03-02
Besides her obvious talent and teaching ability, Louise Jackson brings a generosity to her book that only someone who is completely secure in her life can do: she has given permission, in the introduction, for her book 'students' to copy the work, sell it, enter it in competitions, as their own. The only thing she asks is that she is mentioned somewhere, as in "after Louise Jackson" under the new artists name. She says judges and purchasers deserve to know that the DESIGN is not original although your rendition is. How is that for sharing? The other thing I noticed is the absence of the word, "I", without which most other artists cannot begin a sentence. I have checked this out of the public library so often they have cut me off. Today I am buying the book from Amazon. Thanks, Louise, for sharing all.
Easy instruction for painting beautiful watercolor flowers.......1999-04-07
If you are interested in painting watercolor flowers, and you are beginning or intermediate painter, this book is a must. The instructions are very easy to follow, and the illustrations are beautiful, as will be your painting if you follow the instructions. I looked at at least 6 other books on painting watercolor flowers, but chose this one because of the ease of the instructions. I highly recommend this book. Please note: as a beginner, I am choosy because many art instruction books are simply over my head at this stage. This one is not, but will make you feel like a professional artist. I hope that the author publishes a second book, and makes this a series!

Skilled decorative painters can make their intricate artwork look tremendously difficult to accomplish, but Priscilla Hauser knows precisely how to teach her art even to beginners. In Priscilla Hauser's Decorative Painting Secrets the doyenne of decorative painting takes a flower-of-the-month approach, serving up 12 charming projects, each loosely related to the time of year. Thus January brings a bright patch of crocus painted on a weathered architectural bracket; May offers wisteria delicately trailing over a long wooden fragment that's become a headboard; and November features a chrysanthemum-strewn frosted glass platter. Each project is introduced by a little diary entry that explains the piece's genesis. In July, for instance, Hauser focuses on miniature watering cans bedecked with tiny rosebuds--originally created, she tells us, as bridesmaids' gifts for her daughter's wedding shower. An extensive introduction to technique shows exactly how to use various brushes to paint specific types of strokes and how to work with blending gel and floating medium. This volume is an excellent choice for anyone looking to get started in decorative painting. --Amy Handy

Customer Reviews:
Deceptive title, but overall a good book.......2001-11-18
Although I couldn't figure out what decorative painting secrets were revealed in the book, basic techniques (floating, blending and simple blending) were covered more thoroughly than in some of Priscilla's previous books. Those interested in pen and ink will appreciate this one.
