Book Description
COME LOOK WITH ME: Enjoying Art with Children is the first volume in the COME LOOK WITH ME series of interactive art books from Lickle Publishing. Each book in the series introduces children to twelve magnificent works of art. More importantly, they offer a whole new way of encountering any work of art, one that engages the imagination as much as the eye.
Well suited for both individual and classroom use, Enjoying Art with Children pairs quality art reproductions with thought-provoking questions, encouraging children to learn through visual exploration and interaction. Thoughtful text introduces the world and work of the artist, making the most of a child's natural curiosity.
Children are invited to search out the details that bring works of art to life - the tattered sleeve of a street urchin in John Brown's A Tough Story, and the rosy complexion of a young musician in Renoir's Two Girls at the Piano.
Drawing from a wide-ranging selection of works of art, from Hans Holbein the Younger's 16th century portrait of a one-year-old Edward VI, Edward VI as a Child, to Pablo Picasso's 1938 study of his daughter with a sailor doll, Maya with a Doll, children explore the artwork with lessons in perspective, color, line, and even in the nature of creative freedom.
Engaging and interactive for both children and adults, Lickle Publishing's COME LOOK WITH ME series celebrated what Mrs. Blizzard called the "pleasure of shared experience."

gets kids thinking about art ~ not just looking at it.......2007-07-13
after borrowing it so many times from the library, just decided to go ahead and get it. this is one of sonlight's recommended resources for kindergarten (art appreciation)
Well done.......2007-07-03
The artwork is accompanied by questions to get the viewer thinking. It works great with homeschool or for anytime.
Educational. Look at Art with Children.......2003-10-29
This is a good book for adults and children. There is a picture on one page and on the next page there is a little bit of information about the picture and some questions to inspire thinking about the picture.
Examples of questions might be- what are the childrenn in this painting feeling? What makes you think so? What is the father in this painting thinking about?
This book inspires young children to look at pictures in a different way. It inspires them to put the story to the painting and to explore what the painting is trying to 'say'. Because of this it is a good introduction to art for young children.
Enjoy.
A new way of looking at picture books.......2000-04-08
We just started "looking" at Ms Blizzard's book, and it has already opened a whole new world for my children to discover. The format (full page color pictures accompanied by historical reference and discussion questions) is as enjoyable for the children as it is for adults. As a homeschool mother I appreciate the opportunity it provides to take a moment and wonder what the artist may have had in mind when they created their work. I also thank the author for the corresponding list of open ended discussion questions she provides. Take a moment to really look at a picture and let the child interpret it. You may be surprized at how they respond. I know I was. It has become especially popular with my 3 year old who considers the children her friends. We look at it daily and can't wait to add to our collection with another edition of the authors works. A wonderful introduction to art appreciation for all ages. Thank you Ms. Blizzard for a wonderful book! This series is sure to be a hit with all who appreciate art.

The Ultimate Face Painting Book in Many Ways.......2006-10-31
This book has been around a while now. It still looks as new, vibrant and current as the first copy I was given as a gift over 10 years ago. I think it has been that long or longer probably. The point is that this book brought my family together. My dad is a pretty good artist or at least better than the average person. He will never admit that but this book put him to the test. My mom tried painting faces at one of my first birthday parties that I was old enough to remember. She grabbed this book, set up in my bedroom, she sat in a kiddies chair and let the kids come on up one at a time! Let's just say she was not as gifted an artist as she was hoping she may be. I remember my dad looking on and he suggested something with a certain brush stroke or color or whatever. The next thing you know he is sitting down in that tiny kid's chair hunched over painting faces of little kids and the line was line was backing out to the living room. He let the kids look through the book and pick out faces they wanted. I am certain it was a challenge for him. But I must honestly say that this book gave him the tools he needed to rise for the occasion. Needless to say the whole experience was a success on all levels. It was my dad who bought this book. He likes books. This book caught his eye. I remember him telling me how well designed and conceived and executed it was. He purchased it on speculation as a reference as he does with most books. He always says that you never know when you just may need it. Well, this book has a special place in my bookcase next to My Little Golden Books, The Wizard of Oz and some other books for my childhood. You never stop learning from the best. Oh yes this book is quite different from those, but you can still take it out return or learn a thing or two you may have missed. And this book is one of the best. Practically speaking, this book has everything you need to put a smile on a kid's face. If you think you can't paint or put a smile on that that little kid you should take a look at this book. Oh yes, my mom finally learned that she too could paint with a little help from this book As for me, my turn to pick up that brush will come some day. Many thanks are in order.
Great Gift.......2006-08-14
I gave this kit as a gift, and it was a huge hit. My cousin said her two little girls were zebras all weekend. Lots of fun for the money.
Face Painting.......2006-08-01
This book is an excellent take-a-long for any face painter professionally but is also fantastic for the beginner. It not only comes with face paints but the pictures are basic enough for any birthday party or event. The spiral binding lets it lay flat so you can look at the picture as you draw it on the face. Excellent!
Excellent product, great for parties........2006-06-29
Great paints, but it would be nice to have more ideas in the book for uninspired people like me.

Disappointed in Matisse Drawing with Scissors.......2006-08-12
Cute, but not as substantial as I would have liked.
Book Description
Few subjects have more immediate appeal to children than animals, and few methods of teaching youngsters to appreciate fine art have proven more successful than those of art educator Gladys S. Blizzard. In COME LOOK WITH ME: Animals in Art, the third volume of her series of interactive art books, she makes the most of children's natural curiosity about animals to introduce them not only to twelve magnificent works of art, but also to a whole new way of encountering art. Using an approach which is as fun as it is effective, the author deftly guides her young audience toward their own understanding of and delight in the world of art.
The works featured in Animals in Art represent a variety of styles which youngsters will encounter again in museums and in books: the muscular realism of Rosa Bonheur's The Horse Fair, the delicate romanticism of Martin Johnson Heade's Cattleya Orchid and Tree Brazilian Hummingbirds, and the bold abstraction of Henri Matisse's The Snail. They also represent an intriguing menagerie of beasts, from the mysterious deer and horses stampeding across the wall of Lascaux cave to Paul Klee's whimsical heart -nosed cat dreaming of a bird.
Each work of art is accompanied by a brief biographical sketch of the artist and a series of open-ended questions designed to encourage discussion. Through her thought-provoking text, Mrs. Blizzard encourages children to imagine themselves in the paintings: striding among the solemn-eyed creatures in Edward Hick's The Peaceable Kingdom, setting out on a voyage aboard Roy DeForest's fantastical Canoe of Fate. In each work of art, children will discover the rewards of looking closely to find the details that bring a painting to life.
Whether enjoyed in a family or a classroom setting, COME LOOK WITH ME: Animals in Art offers art lovers of all ages the perfect way to celebrate what Gladys Blizzard calls "the pleasure of shared experience and to nurture a lifelong appreciations for the visual arts.
Book Description
Here is the fascinating story -- based on true fact -- of a world-famous artist and a little girl who became one of his models. Sylvette first met Picasso in 1954, when she was a girl in the southern French town of Vallauris. At that time, she was the shyest and dreamiest girl among her friends, though today, she is a respected artist in her own right. When Picasso set up his studio in a nearby house, he spotted young Sylvette and was taken immediately by her classical profile and her lovely ponytail. When at last he convinced her to pose for what became the first of more than forty works of art, the two gradually became good friends. Before long, Picasso's portraits of Sylvette became famous around the world.
Customer Reviews:
Lovely story and intro. to the artist.......2007-05-11
My 4-year old daughter and I love all of the books in this series. The illustrations and reproductions of Picasso's work are lovely. I like to be able to introduce her to artists, and these books, unlike most others, have a story. It is about a 15 minute read aloud, not too long for one on one. Very enjoyable.
Interesting, but some deep subject matter.......2006-06-25
While this is a beautifully illustrated book, looking to be ment for children, there are some awefully deep emotional parts in it that I skip over when reading to my 4 year old. It is a longer picture book and geared towards 2-4th graders. It's interesting and tells a lot about Picasso and his works, but could do without his subject's tormented and emotionally disturbing past.
NOT for a PreK classroom!.......2006-04-05
There are an average of 100 words on each page.
Picasso book review.......2006-02-23
Nicely illustrated, as expected however, not as exciting as Camille and the Sunflowers: A story about VanGogh. Character development should have been 5 stars. My kids liked it.
Cute for kids and adults.......2005-09-21
I would definitely recommend this book and others from the author for introducing art and artists in a fun, low pressure way. I couldn't wait to get to the end of this one to see how it turned out.

Teach about fine art in a fun and enjoyable way........2007-09-15
These are great books. We purchased our first book, Picnic with Monet when my daughter was a newborn. She is now 20 months old and she has the Mini Masters Boxed Set (a great deal) and Quiet Time With Cassat. She loves these books! She will bring them to me one-by-one and ask me to read each one over and over. I think she enjoys the lyrical quality of the text as well as the paintings. She loves pointing out the different items in each painting and commenting on what is taking place (playing, sleeping, dancing, etc.) It's interesting that even though some elements in certain paintings are rather abstract, she still knows what she is looking at. I love fine art and grew up seeing many of these paintings, so I'm glad that I can expose my daughter to the Masters in such a fun and positive way.
One of the best.......2007-06-19
I think this book is one of the best of Julie Merberg's masters series. The art is just gorgeous and every single one contains a child or children, most with a parent, so kids will probably be drawn to this one. My 2 1/2 yr old daughter loves it and loves looking at all the paintings of children. Sweet portraits and great writing! One of my personal favorites.
Love it!.......2007-03-19
I had gotten these out of the library and liked them so much, I purchased 6 of these mini-masters for my 8 month old.
Beautiful pictures.......2007-01-15
My 2 year old daughter loves this book (and all the other ones in this series). She will go to her bookshelf at bedtime and pick this one. I like looking at the pictures too! Hopefully when we visit museums in the future she will appreciate the paintings she sees due to the wonderful stories created to accompany the paintings.
Wonderful!.......2006-12-19
My six month old loves this book, and it doesn't show any signs of becoming passe. The color reproductions of Cassatt's work are wonderful!

A life saver!!.......2007-08-30
This book has been a great help to me as a stay at home mom of a toddler!! Great ideas to keep her busy when the weather is too hot to get outside(or as winter approaches too cold!). I love the ideas and my daughter has loved the varied activities in her "art" time!
Make Your Own Play Dough Review.......2007-08-03
I have to assume that this book is very good. I bought it for someone else and had it sent directly to them. They specifically asked for it by name and author.
Preschooling on a budget.......2007-03-08
Every parent, teacher, childcare provider, and scout leader should have this budget friendly book. Using just about everything a person already has in his/her kitchen, creative materials can be formed with little cost. It includes over 100 recipes, and presents ideas for every season of the year.
I recommend buying this book, not just to have fun with your children, but for the knowledge they will gain, homemade gift ideas, holiday decorations, and the many other educational teaching elements it provides. Kristina N. is a thrifty stay-at-home mother of six children, and home schools her preschooler. She does freelance writing in her spare time.
Book Description
COME LOOK WITH ME: Enjoying Landscape Art with Children is the second volume in the COME LOOK WITH ME series of interactive art books from Lickle Publishing. Each book in the series introduces children to twelve magnificent works of art. More importantly, they offer a whole new way of encountering any work of art, one that engages the imagination as much as the eye.
Well suited for both individual and classroom use, Enjoying Landscape Art with Children pairs quality art reproductions with thought-provoking questions, encouraging children to learn through visual exploration and interaction. Thoughtful text introduces the world and work of the artist, making the most of a child's natural curiosity.
Children are asked to imagine themselves in the depicted work of art: to feel the winter child of Pieter Bruegel's Hunters in the Snow or be in the jungle stillness of Henri Rousseau's The Repast of the Lion.
Drawing from a wide-ranging selection of 20th century works of art, children explore the artwork, invited to pantomime the boldly swirling brush strokes of Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night or cover a figure in the foreground of George Innes's Lackawanna Valley and consider how the painting would look without it.
Engaging and interactive for both children and adults, Lickle Publishing's COME LOOK WITH ME series celebrated what Mrs. Blizzard called the "pleasure of shared experience."

Customer Reviews:
Not what I expected.......2007-06-19
The paintings they chose to use in this book are wide ranging in terms of style. The good thing is the paintings are not at all like the super abstract "Demoiselles d'Avignon." They include very realistic works of a boy on a donkey and a boy on a chair. There is even a self portrait at the end.
I don't really care for the writing in this one. There really is no story and many of the paintings' descriptions are just boring. It seemed randomly put together and as if the author didn't know what to say. Even a couple of the paintings themselves are boring, which is not a word that usually comes to mind when I think of Picasso.
Overall, I think it's a good book but it's not going to be for every kid. I think it's a great intro to Picasso, even if they just leaf through it and look at the pictures.
A great collection for kids!.......2007-05-09
My 2 year old loves this entire series. True, most children like pictures that are realistic because they are learning their first words and want to know what real things are, but Picasso is also wonderful. I find my son opening the pages over and over again exploring, wondering, and enjoying the art.
A liitle too abstract for a 2 year old.......2007-01-15
My daughter owns all 8 of Julie Merberg's mini masters and I find this one a little too abstract for my 2 year old daughter. She enjoys the more realistic pictures but tends to look away and ask for another book when it comes to the pages with Picasso's abstract pictures.
Picasso for kids? Yes it can be done!.......2006-12-19
This book includes several of his earlier works as well as some later works appropriate for young ones. Don't worry, no Guernica here. A great book. My 6 month old loves it.

Sunday with Seurat.......2007-03-09
I am a preschool teacher for 3 year olds. We "study" different artists and paint like them. Seurat is one of the artists that I teach my students about and they paint like him using bingo bottles. This book is excellent for the three year olds. It shows many of Seurat's paintings without a lot of words. The children love looking at it and love listening to me read the book! It is a perfect book for introducing art and artists to young children!
Art for toddlers!.......2006-01-06
I love the fact that these books exist! My daughter is one and is mesmerized by these books. She sits down with them and just looks at them, intently. I love that I can share art with my toddler in a safe and fun way. Otherwise, I'd risk my expensive art books at her little hands. I highly recommend these books, even if you're not a big art fan. The colors alone are great for toddlers!!
