I love all the colorful books in the series we have read. This one is a cute introduction to the tooth fairy and what happens as you get new teeth. I would reccomend it.
Fun Charlie & Lola activity book!.......2007-07-09
I bought this for my 4-1/2-year-old, and she loves it! It has the classic Charlie & Lola style, but with things to color and fill in. It has suggestions to try adding fabric and paper to create a picture like the ones in the Charlie & Lola books and shows. An excellent buy--this has generated a lot of creative play time in our house!

Excellent for young budding artists.......2006-08-25
I got this for my sons 9th Birthday - it give the basics of 3D drawing in a way that children of his age can understand. I would recommend this book to people with children who enjoy drawing and would like to improve the results
Good book to learn how to draw.......2005-09-26
I'm trying to learn how to draw now because I was afraid to take art classes in high school. This book has made it fun. I really liked the "how to draw cars" by the same author. This book was not as helpful but it is still a good book.
Thank Heavens for Dubosque.......2005-09-13
With 8 grandchildren under 10 years of age, this book has delighted all of them. We have 3 budding artists and now the others are becoming more creative. The Dubosque books are an answer to parents who are not artistic or don't have the time to answer all their questions. With our schools eliminating many arts programs it will be up to parents to interest their children in the finer things, which begin with the basics.
Thank you for a delightful, useful book.

Ideal for Pre-Teen and Beginning Artists.......2003-01-21
"DRAW 3-D" by Doug DuBosque is a friendly and painless introduction to the ABCs of perspective drawing. The text has a conversational feel and is easy to understand, using short words and simple explanations aided by 2-5 very clear illustrations (and an occasional photograph) on every single page.
I went through the whole book, practice-drawing as I read, in about a week, since it's only 63 pages and I was already familiar with some of the principles discussed thanks to the most excellent "How To Draw Comics the Marvel Way" by John Buscema & Stan Lee.
I think "DRAW 3-D" is easy enough for a kid of about 9 or older to understand most of it, and all of it if he or she has an older artist handy to explain and demonstrate (or to console and encourage, because it sure is exasperating when you forget which of those 20 straight lines goes where). It will not teach you to draw a perspective view from an object plan, or to draw a perfect square in perspective, but if you are completely new to perspective drawing and want a good introduction to the subject, this is the book for you.
Try it! If you reach the point where you don't need it anymore, and haven't become sentimentally attached to it in the meantime, it will make a great gift for anyone else interested in drawing.
Splendid!.......1999-09-24
I bought three beginning drawing books for my 9 year old, and this one was his favorite (one on how to draw cartoons was a close second). The first exercise, which is to spell out your name using 3-D letters, caught his interest right away, and he's been back to the book several times on his own initiative.
Customer Reviews:
Easy and fun.......2007-05-13
This book is great! Very cute to look at, easy to follow, and the colorful, fun pictures are wonderful. We have this for my son, but all of his friends (girls and boys, 6 years old) want to draw everything on every page and they can do it very well. Steps are simple to master for ages as young as 4, and the book helps build confidence because the kids can really draw what is shown. Variations are easy too. We love it. Great gift idea!
the Shipping Cost will Get Ya!.......2007-01-10
The item arrived on time and as pictured so I would order from this seller again. But on a side note: Even though the item itself is cheap the shipping will get ya!
terrific for small and older children.......2002-05-12
The wonderful , colorful illustrations inspire children in an easy step by step non-intimidating way. Even the 5th graders at the school I teach art at love this book and so do I.
Good for beginners.......2000-11-02
Even young budding artists can learn to draw with this simple and colorful book. Easy, step-by-step instruction and vivid crayon and marker illustrations are enticing to young children. This was a great tool for my 6-year-old daughter who loves to draw, as she could easily complete the drawings in the book. I highly recommend this one for beginners!
Book Description

Customer Reviews:
Wondering which breeds are in here?.......2007-06-27
I bought this book hoping there would be a picture of a weim or a similar breed. I got lucky, there is a weim! It does look incredibly easy to follow, but I know what dog lovers want to know: is MY breed in there? so here's a list:
The book is divided into "groups". The Hound group has Afghan, Basenji (sitting), Basset, Beagle, Black & Tan, Bloodhound (sitting), Borzoi, Dachshund (smooth), Greyhound (running), Irish Wolfhound (running). The Terrier group has Airedale, Bedlington, Bull Terrier, Cairn, Dandie Dinmont, Wire Fox, Kerry Blue, Scottish, Sealyham & a Westie (sitting). The Working group is actually the CKC working & herding combined, and has Malamute, Boxer (running), Rough Collie (running), Doberman (play bow), GSD (head shot), Great Dane, Mastiff, OES, Corgi (Pembroke), St. Bernard (lying down), Samoyed, Sheltie, Standard Schnauzer. The Sporting has Cocker (looks like American, is "sitting pretty"), English Setter (head shot), Golden Retriever, Irish Setter, Pointer, Weim. The Irish, Pointer & Weim are on point. The Non-sporting includes the Toy breeds: Bichon, Boster Terrier, Bulldog, Chow, Dalmatian (sitting), Lhasa Apso, Standard Poodle (continental cut I think), Chihuahua, Pomeranian, Pug, Yorkie. All the breeds which can have cropped or natural ears have cropped ears in these drawings.
Dog Lines .......2007-04-08
This was the ideal book for me! Thanks to this book, I can draw better than I ever imagined possible!
Ames' provides good, clear instructions. Beagles, basenjis, bulldogs and Germans shepherds are fun to draw. Any dog with a curly tail is fun to draw. Readers are also treated to a brief history of each breed on the bottom of each page.
Now, I wish there was a book (or maybe there is and I just don't know about them) of drawing classic cars. How to draw a 1964 Ford Falcon - how cool is that!
"Draw 50 Dogs" of the terrific Draw 50 series.......2002-10-13
I must admit that for me it takes a bit of work to draw realistic and 3 dimensional pictures. But using the 'Draw 50' books are so very, very easy to use! Lee J. Ames's drawing method is simple with the step-by-step instructions which are easy to follow. For kids 9 and older, "Draw 50 Dogs" by Lee J. Ames is great for drawing in your scrapbook, onto your notebooks, on cards, etc.
As the title says, this book includes instructions to draw 50 dogs; all of the 50 are different breeds and types. For me I love the portraits though I also love to draw dogs running or posing. My favorite pictures to draw are most probably the 'Irish Wolfhound', 'Cairn Terrier', 'German Shepherd Dog', 'Cocker Spaniel', and 'English Setter'. The book has another nice touch which is at the bottom of each drawing, there is some information on that dog including a brief history of the breed, average weight and height of the dog, and coat and color of the dog. Extremely helpful especially if you are thinking of coloring your drawing afterwards or would like to know how big to draw the dog when putting it in a background. My only complaint that there isn't a picture of a papillon to draw which I would like to (the reason? I have a papillon for a pet!).
Of course all of the "Draw 50" series are great, be sure to check them all out! The books I want are "Draw 50 Athletes", "Draw 50 Cats", "Draw 50 Cars, Trucks, and Motorcycles", and "Draw 50 Famous Faces".
Great book.......2000-12-27
I agree with the other reviews, this is a great book in the series. If you have an interest in drawing or know someone who does, you'll find these books to be very useful. My daughter had brought some home from the library & asked for me to buy them. They go step by step with you,in no time you'll have a wonderful picture!
Draw 50 dogs.......2000-09-08
This wonderful step-by-step drawing book has great illustrations like the Yorkshire terrier(My favourite). Lee J. Ames, author, is very kind as I had e-mailed him many times. Hope you like this book too...

A Real Delight.......2001-05-12
This is an outstanding book and a must-have for those who love Beatrix Potter's work. While most people think of Potter as the author of those delightful children's books, this book shows the full range of her work. Anne Stevenson Hobbs did an outstanding job in presenting the art in a very enjoyable manner - a real plus for those lucky enough to own this book.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent!.......2007-01-15
Awesome illustrations and easy to follow step by step instructions that allow even the beginner artist to draw all the pictures. My 9 year old sone received it for Christmas and loves it.
great for beginners!.......2000-07-09
If you are looking for an easy and non-specific drawing book about animals, this is the one. It has a wide range of them, from birds to insects, from wild felines to cute pets and farm animals. I would say this book is a great starting point for anyone who is interested in drawing but doesn't know any techniques or doesn't feel capable - yet - of drawing animals instantly. It is perfect for beginners because it does not use hard techniques, such as shading, and with it you are able to discover which kinds of animals you would like to draw more - and then you can go for "Draw 50 Birds" or "Draw 50 Cats", which are two examples that, comparing to this one, are more specific and therefore more challenging books. "Draw 50 Animals" uses the step-by-step method and is very easy to follow. You start with simple lines and shapes, and little by little you turn them into the animal which you thought you would never be able to draw. The result is really amazing, and a great self-esteem increaser for beginners (at least for me it was!). This book is sure to please anyone who uses it and anyone who sees the result of using it!

drawing.......2007-01-18
book is good for drawing from scratch. it's helpful for someone just beginning to study art.
For young art lovers.......2005-09-09
On library day at school my daughter usually brings home an art book of some kind. Most of the time it was a book by Lee J. Ames. Marissa really wants to draw well but at 8 doesn't understand that you have to work hard at it. I suggested to her that she get a piece of white paper and trace over the drawings and then color them in. She has really made some beautiful drawings using this book.
Not a good book.......2005-01-17
I am a horrible but determined artist. I have enjoyed the "How to Draw 50..." series since I was very young. However, this particular book is not helpful: majority of the drawings are far too intricate to follow, most of them are unknown plants and flowers, and it fails to teach something.
Unlike the "How to Draw 50 Athletes" this book doesn't have a goal, other than to instruct you on how to mimic some plants and flowers. Whereas, after going through the "Draw 50 Athletes," I learned how to draw the human body; the muscles, head features, proportions, and how they moved.
This book is not for beginners I assure you of this. I understand nature is harder to recognize and capture, but the book just was too difficult to follow, I was only capable of drawing 12 of the 50, and I do each one many times, and I still showed no improvement.
It's just not worth owning. You won't learn anything, and you wont enjoy the process of drawing the plants and flowers. I promise.
In My Humble Opinion
John G (Who am I)
Draw 50 Flowers, Trees and Other Plants.......2002-07-31
This is a great instructional book. It takes you step by step thru the process. I would reccommend it to anyone starting out in drawing.
Book Description
A creative spirit learns that thinking "ish-ly" is far more wonderful than "getting it right" in this gentle new fable from the creator of the award-winning picture book THE DOT.
Ramon loved to draw. Anytime. Anything. Anywhere.
Drawing is what Ramon does. It¹s what makes him happy. But in one split second, all that changes. A single reckless remark by Ramon's older brother, Leon, turns Ramon's carefree sketches into joyless struggles. Luckily for Ramon, though, his little sister, Marisol, sees the world differently. She opens his eyes to something a lot more valuable than getting things just "right." Combining the spareness of fable with the potency of parable, Peter Reynolds shines a bright beam of light on the need to kindle and tend our creative flames with care.

Liberating without being corny.......2007-06-16
Some inspiring books are just too heavy handed. This one seems so natural and child-like that the concept just flows out of the pages.
Inspirational!!.......2007-05-24
I bought this book for my four year old son who had practically zero interest in creating art. He would take crayon to paper for about 14.6 seconds before tossing both aside and moving on to his other toys. After several readings of Ish, he (independently and unprovoked) picked up a marker and paper and drew something person-ish!!! As he was drawing, he was telling me what the body parts were. I was glowing and speechless. Since then, he has been walking around proud as can be with his art and creating more to boot. I am so happy to have found this book. I think every child has a creative side and I'm happy to have found a way to get my little guy to express his ish! If you have a reluctant artist, I highly recommend this purchase! As a matter of fact, I even recommend it for the most artful child as a reminder to draw happily and with abandon!
Ish.......2007-04-09
Ish is a wonderful children's book that addresses perfection and lack there of it. I have shared it with my fifth graders for the sheer fact that nothing in the world is perfect, and we all can use a little "ish" at times in our lives. We cannot always be so hard on ourselves or the work that we do. We have to accept that in all of us there is uniquness and perfection, however it will always look differently for all of us. I would reccomend this to everyone to help realize our potential.
Buy it today!.......2007-02-14
You can't go wrong with this book! It's appropriate for anyone, anytime! It should be on every teacher's and parent's bookshelf. I love it. :)
Cute Story.......2007-02-07
Love to read this story aloud to students in primary grades. It also could be linked to using suffixes. :)

Most Useful.......2005-10-28
This was the most useful book for learning to draw birds that I have found to date. It was easy to follow, the drawings were accurate without being overly ornate, and the diversity of birds was perfect. I would recommend this book to anyone trying to learn to draw, and especially for those who want to draw birds.
Very good.......2003-02-05
good book. when Lee J. Ames draws with someone else it is a bit harder. still easy and fun.
