5 out of 5 stars An old standby continues moving along.......2007-08-17

This used to be considered the bible of pricing of vintage watches - it is a tremendous piece of work - however many models are missing and prices
need updating as the economy has changed very much in a few short years.
However for the beginner there is no better book to learn and have
a handy reference to save money and not lose it when buying an old watch

5 out of 5 stars Pocket Watches.......2007-07-19

The book is not perfect, but it is a great bargain for the money. It is reasonably easy to use and yet detailed in the descriptions and explanations. I was able to pick out my watches and establish a value very quickly. I used it for all my eBay purchases. I do recommend this book as a great reference for pocket watches.

5 out of 5 stars Informative Guide to American watches.......2007-07-13

This is a practical guide to watches and their prices. It dwells mostly on American pocket watches, and in this aspect it is most informative. It is less so on European pocket watches and wrist watches, but still manages to cover a lot of ground. The pricing seems accurate as a guideline.

4 out of 5 stars Good Price Guide.......2007-07-08

An excellent guide to watch values. Strongest for American Pocket Watches and weaker IMO for European Pocket watches and for wrist watches, particularly Quartz.

4 out of 5 stars Great - But.......2007-04-16

I appreciate the amount of information in the book and the author's time invested in the update.

One of my major interests is in the Hamilton 992B pocket watch. I noticed that the author drastically changed the dates of manufacture related to the serial numbers. This is very disappointing. The 992B has not been made for 40 years. Why is the author changing the information?

I wanted to purchase a 992B for the year I was born. This reference book has let me down in having assurance of when that actual date was. The 992B serial number for my birth year was 490,000-495,000 now it is 516,000-520,000.

This lends me to loose trust in the book as a reference. Was the former information incorrect or the current information? At least an explanation on why the change was made could have been provided.

The Bottom Line: It is an excellent reference but the watch collecting information presented is subject to change - so don't depend on it.

5 out of 5 stars New to Hobby - Good Book.......2004-02-22

I am new to the hobby of horology and enjoy owning this book. It provides a lot of detail and good photos of all the major brands (the competing buying guides leave out some significant brands). Well done and worth buying BEFORE you spend 30 times its price (or more!) on a watch. See the different styles and open your eyes. Take the TIME to appreciate it!

5 out of 5 stars The Bible of the Watch Industry, The Best tool available.......2003-12-29

This is an excellent tool if your a collector, admirer, in the biz or anyone considering a watch purchase. An incredible reference tool, great in helping one narrow down their likes and dislikes...my 3rd year in a row. There are a couple of others...however this one is the most objective and useful.

5 out of 5 stars A great resource.......2003-06-17

I've bought each issue since I got interested in watches in 2000, even though the contents change very little from year to year. Another shortcoming of the annual is that the price information is neither complete nor accurate - you can usually get significant discounts on many of the watches featured. Nevertheless, it is great fun just to look at, and read about watches that I can only drool over :-P

4 out of 5 stars Indispensable for the watch collector!.......2003-02-18

This is a great guide to learn your way around the fascinating World of watch collecting! This book includes all the "major" players in the watch industry - but unfortunately, it does not include some of the smaller "houses" (i.e. manufacturers).

I was surprised to read that it included some non-European makers like some from the USA.

One thing I noticed is that the book has several errors, just try matching some of the photos with the descriptions provided and you'll see what I mean! For the publishers and editors: get some quality control, pleeeaaasse!

I recommend it for the beginner and the advance watch collectors.

And yes, I do agree with another reviewer, there's no such thing as too many watches! :-)

How about some new information? And lately, it seems like this collection is nothing more than the same as last year, with a few pages of what's popular this year added in. Where's a comprehensive book?

4 out of 5 stars a nice book for the money.......2007-05-10

to be honest the book is filled with wonderful color pictures and descriptions of the watches.this is a good book to have for reference. I do perfer wristwatch annual as they include the prices. but for the money tis is a good book for someone who either collects or appreciates fine watches. a very nice overview

3 out of 5 stars Comprehensive, but with glaring omissions..........2007-03-10

This book is a very comprehensive volume of today's finest watch brands and timepieces. There are at least two major brand omissions, including my favorite watch brand, Omega.

There is not a single mention of Omega or Blancpain in the entire book. This leads me to believe that the book is really a pay to play advertising vehicle and these brands either chose not to participate or were intentionally left out. For me, with Omega missing, the book became a disappointment.

4 out of 5 stars Exc. Price Guide & Information on Antique Clocks.......2000-10-07

An excellent resource for both prices & basic history on antique clocks of all types. Pictures provided for each item listed with price ranges taking into account the condition of the item. Although I had a solid basic knowledge regarding antique clocks, I found new information. The only reason I rated this book a 4 instead of a 5, is that Miller's needs to realize that it would be helpful to have dual listings of prices--both the pound/sterling and the dollar! As this seems to be a common complaint about their guides, you'd think they'd catch on! An excellent book otherwise--well written, informative with excellent examples and pictures!

      Book Description

Yesterday's timepieces are presented with today's market value. All the original black and white images have been preserved and improved, and there are hundreds of clocks to see - wall and mantel clocks, hall clocks, regulators, novelty, lever, spring, and weight clocks. The type of clock, the pattern name, the approximate date, and the size of the dial or height of the clock are listed. Eleven producers of clocks are represented: Seth Thomas, Ithaca, Ingraham, Waterbury, Welch, Howard, Gilbert, New Haven, Sempire, Sessions, and Ansonia. AUTHORBIO: Alex Wescot first authored the Standard Antique Clock Value Guide in 1977, and has continued to update it over the years. A new edition of the book was printed in 2003, and it is still a great seller. REVIEW: This book provides price and identification information for clocks made in America from the 1870s through the 1930s. Each clock is given a black-and-white photograph and provides information on the type of model, pattern number, date produced, and price. Photographs are very clear and should help users in finding the right model.

5 out of 5 stars I enjoyed this valuable resrouce.......2007-03-05

I've always loved watches and also deal in antiques and do estate sales. This book is very helpful. WE even found the exact watch my father in law has in it which thrilled us and one that was my late fathers' that I wore in my wedding. A great informational resource, great pics and a huge help!! 3 out of 5 stars Vintage Watch Guide.......2007-02-07

This is a great reference however it has very limited information and only a fraction of collectible Watches are listed.I will admit the photography is excellent!

1 out of 5 stars 100 Years of Vintage Watches: Identification and Price Guide.......2005-09-30

Disappointing. Little if any information about European and English watches. Misleading title should be call American watches and a few others.

Unless you are into American watches - a waste of time and money

2 out of 5 stars A nice coffee table book. .......2005-03-02

The book has thousands of pictures of watches, mostly pocket ones. However, it does not cover the history of such watches It's just a picture timetable of watch development.

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful Photos, Valuable Reference.......2004-07-03

I found this book to be excellent reading. It includes hundreds of beautiful photos and a brief but fascinating historical summary for several well-known foreign and American watch manufacturers. Even a person who knows nothing about watches would enjoy browsing through this book. Highly recommended.
