Reference Guide for Manga.......2007-08-24
This book is a great reference for male anatomy; unfortunately being pretty much the ONLY one in the series based on men, this is great for learning poses, gestures, and how clothes overlay the body. Not so terrific for ideas, like clothing or characters. I recommend it for those who are having issues with how the male body is formatted (I use it as a reference in that way)
Disapointing.......2007-06-10
Its almost as if they made This book to shut up people complaining that they only focused on Females. It really was not hepful so i didnt shovel out the 20 bucks for it. They basicly Haft-tried with it.
How to Draw Manga.......2007-05-30
The entire experience was amazing. Shipped earlier then expected, in pristine condition, no hassles no worry.
The product itself is great. The guide truly helps with the basic structure of drawing characters anatonomically correct. It's always better to learn how to draw something right first and then learn how to break the rules later.
:(.......2007-05-13
At least this book hasn't got all the characters in sexual positions, but it does have very boring looking characters also... Maybe the specific male / female books aren't his best works.
Extremely Helpful.......2007-04-22
This book has definetely helped me in the area of drawing male characters. I have also been able to draw females with ease, but the males I always found frustrating. The step-by-step intructions really let you in on the main parts of the male and how to draw them correctly. It compares it to the female body as well.
Various poses are included in it as well which helped me a lot in my characters. If you struggle with the same problem as I did, then I highly recommend this guide. It also includes a fantastic section on hands, feet, and charaters wearing glasses. Any true artist should own this book!

Not Great...Actually, less than great.......2007-09-30
I tend to buy a lot of "How to Draw" books, art books, etc. and, over the years, I've developeda pretty good sense of what works and what doesn't. Unfortunately, "How to Draw Fantasy Females" just doesn't work.
This book is basically a look into different kinds of female sci-fi/comic book/fantasy characters. It gives information on archetypes (actually, there is a little character sheet-type list at the beginning of the book that will help you design different character "types") and provides a couple of pseudo-helpful tutorials on Photoshop and other programs, but is mostly a showcase of different kinds of femals genre characters. I was underwhelmed, to tell the truth - there is very little "how to" to this book at all. Unless you are a collector or a completionist, I recommend just staying away from this one and looking elsewhere.
It's alright if you live under a rock.......2007-09-23
this book talks about the type of characters there are in stories and what not. And if you plan on drawing fantasy stuff, chances are you already know about these character types. Theres plenty left out and this doesnt teah you much if you know how to draw and if you dont know how to draw, this doesnt teach you how.
I got this thinking it'd show me how to draw suits and armor and stuff for females, not tell me that i could draw a girl with a gun or a female alien shaped like a uterus (im dead serious), whats up with that?
If i knew what i know now about this book, I wouldnt buy it. I can't really say who this book would be useful for. I guess its for those who want to draw fantasy style, but have no idea what kind of fantasy settings exsist. And with all the movies, cartoons, videogames, and comic books out there, i dont thing such a person walks this earth.
I wouldnt call it a waste, it does have some nice artwork in it, but overall its useless for me. I'm not an expert or draw for a living or anything like that and im not new at it. This would have been useful if it tought you how to draw stuff or at least had more/unheard of archetypes. Another thing is that this book does is assumes you want to make a comic book which gets annoying because it gives story ideas instead telling me what i wanted to learn.
lousy book.......2007-02-06
This book isn't worth the paper it's written on. There's next to nothing useful in it, any other drawing book on the market is far better. I'm amazed a publisher released it.
Nice intro and useful catalog of techniques.......2007-01-15
Overall, besides the 'cheesecake' appeal, the breakdown of styles and techniques justify buying this book. I haven't yet, but I might.
I reccomend anyone using this as a learning tool also get a DVD/Digital cable and once in a while use the 'pause' feature, to sketch what they see on the TV. Have a sketchbook devoted to 'life drawing' from this source, seperate from the 'fantasy' stuff. Also, "Drawing and painting fantasy figures" should be purchased first, as more versatile, along with its companion on "Fantasy Worlds".
Poser, mentioned heavily in this book, is also a very good tool. Ever see a movie called "Fire and Ice"? It was done with a "Rotoscope" where artists drew over still frames from a movie that used actors approximating what the animation would be. Today, with Poser and some decent software, such as flash and painter, such a movie could be made far more easily. One of my projects once I think of a good "Thud and Blunder" plot to tribute to Heroic fantasy;-)
I use TrueSpace for more ambitious 3D, but for general figure position experiments, Poser works good. Got a copy of Poser 5 here, and it works great. Previously, I'd used Poser 3, which I got for free in a magazine, but when I got a computer with more than a Gig of Ram, Poser 3 couldn't recognize it.
Not what you think.......2006-12-31
Drop the How to Draw from the title and you will get what you are paying for. This book covers software and tools used in the profession but lacks any step by steps useful to beginners and contains info already known by anyone with basic knowledge of character design. This book is more of a gallery of created characters.

Great for Ideas.......2007-08-24
This book is GREAT for getting ideas; the anatomy parts are not anything particularly spectacular, but it's great for getting ideas and concepts going, as well as what to DO with these ideas. I recommend it for those who like fantasy and/or the 'Magical Girl' genre
Outstanding book teach you how to draw cartons in detail........2007-07-03
An Outstanding book that teach you how to draw cartons in detail. I bought it for an 8 years old girl, she likes it too. (but, it seems a little bit hard for her) However, I borrowed the book and draw once and find out it's a great book. I highly recommend for teenagers who love Japanes Cartoon.
One of the best Manga Mania Books.......2007-06-12
This book has better Drawings and is more inspiring than most books in this series!
Another amazing book from Christopher Hart!.......2007-05-23
I am a big fan of Christopher Hart and his work. His books are the best manga tutorial books I have come across.
This one is no exception. The drawing are gorgeous, the instruction is easy to understand for beginners and is still useful for advanced manga artists who want to learn new techniques.
It has everything from cute chibis to the transformation of a regular girl to a magical girl. (step by step instruction)
My favorite is the cute little mascots which are also transformed into magical mascots.
This is worth every penny!
ONE OF THE BEST!!!.......2007-03-17
This book has some of the cutest manga drawings you will ever see. It teaches you everything you need to know about how to make a great manga. I would recommend this book to any girl who loves manga! ^^

A decent book i think:).......2007-02-23
This book is not that bad, but it may not be suited for you if you have NEVER drawn something before:S
It has a lot of step by step guides and contains a good variety of subjects to draw. Hailing from vampires, zombies, vixens to werewolves:) This book is easily one of my favorites even if i cannot give it a top score grade... The reason why, is because it IS a bit advanced. Even if the step-by-step guides are somewhat easy to follow, if you don't have "pencil feeling", then you'll screw up a lot:S Belive me:p
But that may be just me:S It's not a bad book at all, so i can reccomend this one:) Buy it, you won't be dissapointed:)
Decent.......2007-01-22
It was a decent book, I think it could have shown a few more steps on how to draw everything but not too shabby overall.
Not very complete.......2006-11-10
It's a nice book but you need to have and idea in painting because it's no so basic
awesome.......2005-09-01
this book is a good book if you want to draw scary skeletons and stuff like that. in my opinion, i thought it was cool because it has an interview plus art from Vince Locke ( the guy who does cannibal corpes's artwork among many other).
Scared, but in a good way.......2004-12-11
I saw this book in the store and debated buying it for my twelve year old son. It is a little gruesome and the women are quite buxom. I finally decided to order it from Amazon and see what my son thought. Well he loves it! Now he draws nothing but werewolves and zombies fighting each other, I think that is a good thing(?). It is a nice follow up from author Steve Miller, my son got his book Freaks! As well so sooner or later he will probably start drawing zombies fighting cat people. I'm tempted to actually try my hand at drawing some of the characters for Halloween decorations (tempted, but I'll probably just end up making blow up copies at Kinko's.) All in all a nice book for children (and parents-lol) not prone to nightmares.

Book Description
Character design guidelines and drawing tips used by professional designers are compiled and presented in this guide to drawing anime and game characters. The authors, who are instructors of illustration and character design, impart the knowledge they have been using as educational material over the years.
Book Description
Give life to the beings that roam your imagination.
Dragons may terrorize fantasy worlds, but they need peasants to munch on. . . heroes to confront. . . elegant elves, shrewd sorcerers and dreaded demons to battle. Following on the wings of the ferociously popular DragonArt, this book shows you how to conjure up your own fantasy realms by drawing inspiration from fairy tales, legends and (if you dare) things that go bump in the night.
- Breathe the life into your beings by basing them upon fundamental human anatomy--proportions, facial expressions and gender-specific characteristics.
- Color-coded, step-by-step demonstrations (simple enough that even the dullest of dwarves could follow along!) show you how to create a sordid cast of creatures, including goblins, orcs, sprites, angels, mermaids, centaurs, vampires, werewolves, banshees and more.
- Accessorize each being by tailoring them with tusks, wings, hooves, daggers, armor and various apparel, from the fine garb of nobles to peasant rags.
Copy each being as-is. Or, better yet, follow your own twisted imaginings to conjure up creatures from fantastic lands.

I Wish.......2001-09-12
I wish this book had had more vampires, devils, and fairies, which is what I was looking for. What was in it was very creative and made me rethink. All Christopher Hart's books seem to be worth their weight in gold and have helped me tremendously, even though he sometimes jumps ahead in his technique without giving the beginner more instruction on how to do that! Anyway, I am delighted with this book; it has things in it I wouldn't have thought of. Still looking for funny vampires, though.
Viriety is the spice of life, but can't be found in this book.......2001-07-30
Not really what you would expect...This book would have been so much better if it had viriety, it had fantasy characters in it but its mostly stuff thats well...boring, thats is the only word i can think of for it. The only section that was worth the book was the unicorns, i mean most of the characters are mounster fantasy, they only had one fairy in it and it look like a bug , and only one kind of angel which was, a fat guy with yellow wings, the mermaid look like a 5 year old drew it. its really not worth the buy just go to the libairy and check it out, in a day you will have it read.
Drawings in the book were great! Great instruction as well........1999-08-17
What originally attracted me to this book were the drawings. But this is a great instructional book as well. My kids and I, all beginners, really were able to advance our drawings at a rapid pace. We are big fans of the Christoper Hart How to Draw Series. Any other fan or newcomer to this series will love this book as well.
