High-yield, must-know facts on patient diagnosis and workup
Customer Reviews:
Very helpful for CS.......2007-09-26
This review book was very helpful in taking Step 2 CS. It contains more info than you need, but is organized in a manner where you can easily skip what you don't need. The "minicases" were tremendously helpful, if for no other reason than just brushing up on diagnoses I hadn't thought about in months... If you have time, you can look over the practice cases, but those are skippable if you're crunched for time. I started reviewing 1 week prior to the exam & I think I did just fine.
SUPER IMPORTANT ITEM.......2007-09-02
THIS IS A BASIC FOR PASSING STEP 2 CS, FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WORK UP, THE MINICASES ARE VERY HELPFULL, BUY IT WITH CONFIDENCE, IT IS A GREAT BOOK
Gotta have it, not to learn, but to alleviate anxiety........2007-08-27
The great thing about this book is that it demystifies the CS so you know EXACTLY what is coming at you. Not so much the actual cases, nobody can do that for you, but you'll know the format, time constraints, everything about the exam right down to the pesky little details. I didn't bother reading any of the cases, but the book was worth the purchase just so I knew about the test itself and could prepare myself mentally. I was kind of freaking out about this exam until I read this book, the day of the exam, I was totally relaxed and I wasn't surprised by anything.
I can't comment on the cases other than to say there is quite a few of them in here.
I would buy this book again knowing what is in it, and what was involved with the test.
This book will not guarantee a pass for you, nothing can. A fellow medical student that took the exam the same day as me at the same center failed, and he read it cover to cover.
Best thing to do with this book is read about the exam itself, ignore the rest, and do your best to relax the day of the exam (alprazolam or beta blockers never hurt either if you need them) and treat it like any other day at the clinic.
Good luck.
Perfect stud tool.......2007-07-04
If you are planning on taking the USMLE Step 2, don't underestimate the test. This book is a sine qua non condition to pass the test. It doesn't matter how confident or how easy you think you are. The test is all about practice, and this little book has everything you need to know to perform and pass.
Seriously folks, get this book to study or DON'T GO TO THE TEST.
Practice, Practice, Practice!
Good study guide.......2007-06-27
Definitely a must have, great guide for the USMLE step 2 CS, especially if you have a study partner.

good for review.......2007-03-09
this is a good book to review the existing knowledge.... do not use this book to gain new knowledge.... excellent mnemonic help, thats good...
i think this book need some more articles,,,,specially in paediatrics surgery and psychiatry...
thank you
Not the best study aid this time.......2007-01-04
When I took step one, this was my bible, and it prepared me very well. This time, the book gave lots of facts but did not prepare me well for the case-based questions of step two. I did not feel confident at all when I left this exam, and I had memorized this entire book. There was just not enough detail. I would recommend learning this book but then also doing tons of practice questions as well.
Not as good as First Aid for Step 1.......2006-09-08
I was very disappointed with this resource for CK prep. I found Step 2 secrets to be far superior. I purchased and read First Aid for Step 2 CK based on my positive experience with First Aid for Step 1. Much to my disappointment, First Aid for CK contained quite a large amount of basic information that just isn't high yield on step 2. For example, the basic ins and outs of ECG. On the exam, pertinent ECG findings are usually given, and then you're asked to make a clinical decision (e.g. next test or step in management) based on the ECG findings and other data presented. Step 2 secrets is a much more clinically oriented review of material for CK. WARNING: don't rely heavily on First Aid for CK or you'll be disappointed. USMLE world and Kaplan Qbank are probably the best review resources out there, with review books serving as supplements. Unfortunately, First Aid for Step 2 CK was not very helpful. See my review of step 2 secrets, as I consider it to be the best text resource (remember, only as a supplement to online question banks) for CK. I'm not bashing the First Aid series because many are very good books. For example, First Aid for step 2 CS is right on the money (see my review of First Aid for step 2 CS).
Helpful .......2006-08-07
I agree with other reviewers. It doesn't come close to the usefulness of Step 1. It contains too little information considered high yield in the exam. Definitely not to be used by itself.
Not bad, but not essential.......2006-06-30
Unlike the step 1 First Aid book, which was simply phenomenal (not to mention vital) for studying for the exam, the First Aid for Step II CK was a so/so text. It's fairly long, and wasn't as concise or as targeted as the step I book, and took more time to really study it and attain the same degree of comfort that I had after reading the first one. Some of this could be accounted for by the sheer scope of the examination itself. Not only does this cover all of the core specialty rotations (and a fair amount of subspecialty info as well) that you will be exposed to as a 3rd year clinical clerk, but it also needs to re-cover a good portion of the step I material that has been delightfully repackaged (i.e. those yummy glycogen storage diseases that you thought were gone forever.... think again! This time, they give you the vague clinical presentation, and then ask about the enzyme).
Within my class, there were really 3 groups of studiers for the step II, and the texts they used (as opposed to those who decided to "wing it"). Some loved this text, some thought that "Step Up" was hands down the best, and some swore by "Crush Step II". Personally... I read this one and "Crush", and thought that "Crush" was a tad more on target and high yield... but I also read this book first, so I may have hit Crush more comfortable in general. No matter what you choose, read something, and preferably more than 1 something, as a single text probably isn't going to be enough. Secondly, and probably more importantly, do practice questions! Whether it's USMLE world, or Kaplan's Qbank, it's definitely the best way to prepare for the exam. The test itself is very long (8 hours), and by the 3/4 point you'll probably be blinking stupidly, drooling, and struggling to remember what to do first.. point.. or click? The more practice you have, the better prepared you'll be, and really... everybody seems to make it through ok. Do the prep work, and you'll be just fine, and the "First Aid: Step II CK" is as good a place as any to start.

Is there such thing as a Western Taoist? Benjamin Hoff says there is, and this Taoist's favorite food is honey. Through brilliant and witty dialogue with the beloved Pooh-bear and his companions, the author of this smash bestseller explains with ease and aplomb that rather than being a distant and mysterious concept, Taoism is as near and practical to us as our morning breakfast bowl. Romp through the enchanting world of Winnie-the-Pooh while soaking up invaluable lessons on simplicity and natural living.
Book Description
One of the world's great Taoist masters isn't Chinese, or a venerable philosopher, but is in fact none other than A. A. Milne's effortlessly calm, still, reflective bear Winnie-the-Pooh. While Eeyore frets and Piglet hesitates and Rabbit calculates and Owl pontificates, Pooh just is. And that's the clue to the secret wisdom of the Taoists.

Non Fiction.......2007-09-03
A complete waste of time. I suppose it is a whimsical idea to use Pooh to explain the version of philosophy that you favor. Others might term this exploitative. In fact, there is probably a comic in there somewhere, The Revenge of Pooh, where pragmatic realistic toys with weapons come and kick the stuffing out of wacko writers.
What a great book.......2007-08-27
If you only read two books this year, this and "The Te of Piglet" should be those.
wonderful, insightful book..........2007-08-08
I found this to be a simply delightful read. It was easy to comprehend and get through. Whoever thought that Pooh might one day come back and enlighten me as much as he entertained me as a kid growing up.
Interesting concepts.......2007-08-04
I learned of this book through my truck insurance auto person in Minnesota. He told me of this book and I bought it and thought it had some great insites on life. They were always there but Pooh brings them out in a way that makes me think farther into it. Really good. PSM
Cottelston, Cottelston, Cottelston Pie .......2007-06-29
"What did you think of the book?" "What book?" asked Pooh. "The Tao of Pooh," replied William. "The who of me." "Yeah, that was a chapter. Did you like it?" "How could you not like a book about a bear?" Pooh said proudly. "That was how I felt," William confirmed.
A wonderful little book that not only introduces one to the thoughts of Taoism but also shows you how a clear mind without worry can make your life better. Don't be a Bisy Backson. Pick up this book and sit down and enjoy it. That's the whole point, right?

A manual that teaches you accessible techniques to increase .......2007-08-20
I really enjoyed this book. In fact, I read it back to back! I found this
book to be very helpful after my partner and I broke up. I was on a
recovery to find out why the relationship did not work. Sex and the
perfect lover by Iam gave me very strong points as to what men are looking for and what women need to know about men, to become a perfect
lover. After this book I am sure NOW,either, I'll find my perfect
soulmate.
I never had better sex in my life.......2007-08-20
I received my copy yesterday, and have read it cover to cover. I am right now ordering several copies to give as a gift to my friends. Sex and the perfect lover provides you with techniques and exercises so that you can become a perfect lover. This is one of the best sex guide books that I have ever read. I couldn't put it down. There are hundreds of books like this on the market, but anyone like this. This is real book to help you in your sex life I never had better sex with any partner than after I read this book. I wasn't a bad lover at all, but now we are feeling really great! I can't imagine any man not being overly pleased and excited to find this book under your pillow! Every woman and man should own a copy of this book. The author relates her experiences of the Kama Sutra positions, Prolonged mental and bodily ecstasy easily kindled by lengthy stimulus on the sex organs. I undertand why this book was sold in India cause is The best sex guide and kamasutra book. I would recommend this book for anyone who is seriously interested in pleasing your partner.
Men: trying to learn how to last longer? This is NOT it.......2007-08-11
I hated this book, it was nothing but spiritual mysticism with NO, I mean NOT ONE, useful technique or clearly explained instruction, it's all very vague and if you're looking for sex techniques you can learn and apply this is NOT it.
junk.......2007-08-05
This is one of the worst books I've ever read. THEY DO NOT DELIVER ANYTHING THAT THEY CLAIM!!! I wouldn't pay .25 cents for this book.
Good Ideas.......2007-06-17
This book offers suggestions for different positions that we never tried before. Good for spicing things up. :)

First Aid Q & A.......2007-05-13
Item was received promptly. No damage noted. Excellent service is appreciated.
First Aid for USMLE-Q&A.......2007-05-08
This is a great resource for boards prep. It breaks down questions by organ system, has a large "practice test", and has some basic science sections too. Its nice because you can review a specific organ system or area and then quiz yourself with questions directed toward that specific area too.
Excellent question book.......2007-03-03
I am an attorney and used to studying for exams with a large number of questions from which to prepare. Until First Aid Q&A came out, there were not many sources with 1000+ questions and that covered multiple subjects. All and all an excellent question book that I have used for my in class exams and which I intend to use for Step 1.
NIce!!!.......2007-01-15
Questions are just like the NBME Comprehensive exam!!! Nice guys, wow, really like this!!!
Excellent work........2007-01-12
This is a very comprehensive review of Step 1 USMLE First Aid. Having read many of the other works on this subject, I can honestly say that this is the best one. The sections on pharmacology and epidemiology/biostatics are especially enlightening. Michael Rinke is a god among men. First aid pathology, likewise, becomes a piece of cake after practicing on the 1000+ questions contained within.

good for step 1 prep.......2007-02-12
This is not bad as another book to have for Step1 Prep. Don't overwhelm yourself with too many books because there are ALOT of books out there. Just pick a handful becuase otherwise you will have conflicting information.
Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good.......2007-01-15
Just Get the BOOK!!! Yes That Good!!! It helps you think about every aspect of a concept. Example, path & Physio of what's going on with the patient. It brings important concepts in medicine in extremely valid cases which are written "like" the NBME questions. I would rec this book 100% worth every penny!!!
great book.......2006-10-29
cases are informational and board style. follows the step 1 book. the step one book, cuts out the [...] and tells you what's needed for the boards. great outline. some of the topics are a little thin. has color histo atlas and websites for more general info. I think the book would be better if it had more cases but overall, the combo is a good buy!

Kaplan Q bank+ this book =all you need to pass and do well.......2007-07-19
I think the key to studying for the Step 1 is to restrict your studying materials. It's better to know everything in one book (THIS BOOK) than some of 5-6 books. So many questions from my USMLE came straight from this book that if you studied this and memorized every syllable, you will pass and pass well! Just supplement this with the Q bank to get yourself into question mode and you will be just fine.
This was pretty much all I used and I made a 225/94.
the king of kings.......2007-05-25
you need this book starting from your first year of medical school, through wehn you take your step 1. use this book by its guidelines and you will be rewarded. pick it up, open it and read the first feww pages and follow what advice they give as a beginning medical student.also make sure you pick up the latest version.I used this book through my 2 years in college and i made 229/95 on my step 1.
Great book for review.......2007-03-21
It is a good book for review but the subjects change one to another to fast and dont have any link between the subjects. You will need comprehensive books if you dont know a lot about the subjects. Good for highlight the most important topics for the test.
Step 1.......2007-02-01
No magic, just study, I did it with KAPLAN, and the last week before the exam I just read this.
Helpfull.
Good for more than just the boards.......2007-01-10
First Aid has helped me in tests throughout the year. I actually wish I had had it last year, so that when the time comes to study for the boards, I'd be extremely familiar with the book. That said, the book is systems based, and the curriculum at my school is subject-based, so I'm considering getting an older edition of the First Aid for the biochemistry, anatomy, embryology, and histology sections. The mnemonics are great, and since I'm a visual learner, I really like the diagrams and pictures, especially for neuropathology.
I'm really glad I bought it early in the year. Don't put off buying this book simply because Step 1 is eight months away, it's value goes beyond USMLE.
