I can't rave enough about this set. The meditation tape alone is worth the money. The cards are good for remembering the hand positions for Reiki if you are a beginner. The book is also loaded with information. I wish there were more sets of this quality available.

5 out of 5 stars Best for Beginners Level 1.......2007-07-16

Great beginners kit. I took a Reiki Level 1 class a month ago and this has been the perfect tool for me so far. My teacher's lineage stems from William Lee Rand so i was excited to have purchased this kit. It comes with a 100 page Workbook, 30 Instructional Cards, Audio CDs, and DVD video. I just love the audio CD, its so relaxing. For those who want to know the symbols, you won't find them here. He states in his book, "You may be wondering why the Reiki symbols have not been printed in this workbook. It is because Reiki symbols are not meant to be available to the general public, but only to those who have taken a Reiki class." He goes on to explain the many reasons why the symbols are kept private. He also mentions you don't need the symbols to self treat or treat others. I know this because i don't use the symbols but i can feel the energy when i self treat or treat my pets...my hands get really warm and start to tingle.

As a beginner to Reiki, I find this product very informative and useful. It has a DVD to teach you different treatments and a CD for meditation and music. It also has cards for different hand positions and a book that is a must read for any Reiki student. The book alone is worth the cost of the kit. If you have heard about Reiki and want to heal yourself and feel less stressed, please give this system a try. William Lee Rand is wonderful!

5 out of 5 stars Reiki.......2007-06-27

Excellent program. I did what William Lee Rand said and took a course in Reiki too. This DVD and workbook helped to recall what I learned in class and finetuned my technique. I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Outstanding resource!.......2007-06-25

All of the information on Reiki in the book and DVD is very simple and easy to understand. Mr Rand does an excellent job at communicating techniques and also how one would feel while practicing the techniques. This is kind of rare as books ususally do not go into how the practitioner would feel. I've tried the gyoshi ho technique with very good results on my first attempt! The meditations on the CD are excellent. I do one meditation each morning upon waking and I feel incredible! The book has lots of very usefull info with techiques on the use of the symbols and for healing different issues. One can really feel the passion and love from Master Rand and he has made a great impact on my Reiki practice and on my understanding of Reiki. I highly reccomend this kit to anyone no matter what your level is.

Book Description

The inspirational classic that has
sold over 250,000 copies!

In this classic work, Eric Butterworth sees the divine within us all to be a hidden and untapped resource of limitless abundance. Exploring this "depth potential," Butterworth outlines ways in which we can release the power locked within us and let our "light shine."

"There is only one way under the sun by which a man can achieve his 'Mt. Olympus' -- that is to say, achieve the realization and unfoldment of his own innate divinity -- and that is by bringing about a radical and permanent change for the better in his own consciousness," writes Butterworth.

Butterworth demonstrates that the existence of this divine dimension in each individual is the greatest discovery of all time. He explains the universality of such vital subjects as: how to succeed; how to pray; how to find confidence; how to overcome personal problems; and how to find healing. With insight and sensitivity, Butterworth opens new doors of self-knowledge, and outlines ways in which we can release the power within.

As we move into a new year (2006)and before you make those New Year's resolutions to make changes in your life, read Discover the Power Within You: A Guide to the Unexplored Depths Within.

Find simple explanations of your personal powers in this book by one of Unity's finest spiritual authors. If you've been looking for a good way to define yourself, this is it.

5 out of 5 stars Not religious, but Spiritual.......2005-12-28

My first review of this book was written in 2002. Three years later and I still highly recommend this book to people who are new on the spiritual journey as well as those who are "advanced students". I use that term loosely as I feel that the only advances we ever really make are those in terms of consciousness.

There was one review that said this book was too religious. I think that Butterworth uses a lot of terms associated with the Christian religion but in no means does it make this book "religious". Butterworth stresses that Jesus is not the great exception but the great example.

I can see where the reader may have gotten a tad scared because there is a tendency on the part of some spiritual seekers to want to do away with anything that has to do with Jesus and Christianity. But I feel that the Christian religion is not truly based on the real message of Jesus. Creeds and Dogma and rites and ceremonies came after Jesus left the scene. Let us remember that Jesus himself was not a Christian at all, but a Jew who plumbed the depths of the Torah and had a revelation so magnificent that he wanted to share it with all.

Jesus discovered that there is a Power within all of us. Read your Bible, people! He said, "What I have done, you can do likewise and even greater things than these..." People don't want to hear that because that means we now have an inner responsibility to committ to but let us also remember that it is never we, ourselves, that do the work but the "Father within". Does a seed know how to turn into a flower? Does a caterpillar know how to turn itself into a butterfly? Do we, in all our supposed knowledge, really know how to turn bread, milk, and cheese into bones, muscle, and living tissue? If we are truly honest with ourselves we will come to the awareness that we do not, but something does and we can surrender to that Power not out of sheer defeat, but out of a boundless joy that we did not create our lives, Something greater did and It is this Something greater that lives, moves, and has all of Its Being in us, as us.

This book reminds us on every page that ONLY GOD is to be relied upon. It's a tough concept to do, and yet God in Its Infinite Love never judges us and condemns us for slipping up as we are so apt to do.

If you have grown tired of all the religious dogma, if you feel beat down by all the religious folk who say they know Jesus but still talk of hate, hell, and the devil, then come to your-SELF...come to your God SELF and let the Power within release you of fear and return you to a place of peace.

May Love guide our thoughts, our words, and our deeds.

I found this to also be a very interesting book. I am glad I had the time to read this book. The author seems to know a lot about the disability(s)these kids have. I think a lot of kids should read this book. I hope the more books I read are just like this one.

5 out of 5 stars good book.......2007-03-10

My son with ADHD loves this book. It lists things that only fellow kids with ADHD could understand and really makes them feel "normal" and okay. Gives tons of suggestions for helping themselves out on tasks they struggle with.

5 out of 5 stars Great parent/child dialogue.......2007-01-04

I am a therapist involved with identifying kids with learning problems and assisting them and their families in dealing with their special needs. This little book has proved very useful in helping parents work with their child in acquiring skills to deal with teachers, other students and members of their own families. It frames AD/HD in a more positive light and offers practical strategies for answering questions that others ask and help the child themselves understand that the diagnosis of AD/HD is not "the end of the world!" It is more geared towards elementary age and uses artwork and reading level that appeals to this age group. The reasonable cost and small format makes distributing this book to all my clients possible.

Book Description

The irrepressible founder of a hugely popular "school for goddesses" shows you how celebrating your sensuality can help you achieve your dreams.

You've heard the saying "Do what you love, and the money will follow." Mama Gena takes that sentiment one step further, and exhorts women to do what they love because everything will follow -- success, romance, wealth, fulfillment. Profiled everywhere from The New York Times to The Conan O'Brien Show, relationship expert Regena Thomashauer (a.k.a. Mama Gena) urges women to learn this simple principle: self-indulgence is the key to self-empowerment.

But in order to pursue pleasure, one must know pleasure. Believe it or not, most women can't pinpoint what really makes them happy. After all, are women ever taught to celebrate their appetites, whether it's for chocolate ice cream or a more entertaining sex life? In her "School of Womanly Arts," Mama Gena transforms ordinary women into glowing Sister Goddesses -- women fully in tune with the mystical, creative power of their sensuality -- and teaches them how to use their creative power to build the life they want. She explains the lost art of giving in to desires (even if it's just for a new lipstick), seeking fun and plea-sure at home and at work, and navigating the world using feminine power instead of patriarchal rules. This is pleasure boot camp, and be forewarned, the exercises are tough: assignments include flirting for fun, flexing your intuition, buying yourself presents, bragging about your accomplishments, and much more. Sister Goddesses report magical results: they get job offers, fall in love, find new possibilities and passions.

Mama Gena's School of Womanly Arts will help readers across the country recognize and unleash their full feminine potential -- and have a great time doing it.

5 out of 5 stars A Classic on Man/Woman Relationships and Pleasure.......2007-08-29

I love Moma Gena's attitudes about having more fun and pleasure for both the man and the woman. What happens outside the bedroom clearly translates into the bedroom. This book is one of my favorites!

5 out of 5 stars Changed my life.......2007-08-28

I didn't know what to expect when I read this book, but I heard Christine Northrup mention it in her recent talk and decided to check it out. I wish I had this book when I was twenty, it would have saved me a lot of tears over lost loves-and guilt when it comes to dating several men. But its never too late to read this.. Almost 30 years later I'm learning what every mother should be teaching their daughters. Mama Gena gives out exercises-some aren't surprising, but one in particular was well worth buying the book-she refers to it as Bitte et Chat and it really changes the way the world responds to you..Her book gave me the courage to asked a guy to dinner-something I was taught never to do-he was pretty surprised as we had formally talked for months. His first personal question to me was "What do you like to do for fun" after reading her book I now recognize the significance of his question and now know this guy has potential.

5 out of 5 stars A warm and wonderful book.......2007-08-23

The world can be cold, but Mama Gena is warm. Her book is like a cup of hot chocolate and and injection of womanly wisdom from a grand eccentric aunt. This is a little treasure.

Book Description

The Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul books have sold more than 15 million copies, and they continue to be the strongest selling Chicken Soup backlist. Now, with the help of Scholastic book clubs, we've developed a new series that keeps the best of the old (the stories teens love) with the best of the new. The Real Deal books will feature approximately 50 Chicken Soup stories, combined with text and sidebar material that talks about issues relevant to teen lives. This isn't a lessons book or straight-talk from adults, but teen-friendly conversation about important topics like gossip, bad haircuts, getting cut from the team, and the pain of breaking up (even if you've only been together two weeks). The first book in the new series tackles all the tough questions and fun times associated with that cornerstone of teen life: school. From taking tests to dealing with cliques, from teachers to crushes and all the other relationships teens have to deal with on a daily basis, teens will see themselves (and their friends and enemies) in this honest and fun book. And keep your shelf open for the next book in the series, The Real Deal: Friends, publishing for Christmas 2005. Key Features With 15 million copies sold, there is nothing like the Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul brand. This new branded series updates the topics and design without losing the core appeal for the market. This is not a dry or didactic book. The focus is on the relationships and tensions that school creates in the lives of tweens and teens, not in the classroom. The material between stories, written by a professional tween/teen writer, will reinforce the teen-to-teen nature of the stories, without the adult perspective that ruins so many YA nonfiction titles.

5 out of 5 stars A Teen's Best Resource.......2006-07-31

Reviewed by Cathy Yanda for Reader Views (07/06)

This book will remind everyone who reads it that we all have challenges in our lives and even when they seem like more than we can handle, we can face them and overcome them. True to the Chicken Soup series, this book full of beautifully written, true-life stories and poems. "Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul's The Read Deal: Challenge" lets you read what other teenagers have to say about disses, losses, messes, stresses and more. This book should be on every teen's bookshelf - just in case they want to read it. If there had been a resource like this when I was a teenager, I'd have been more prepared for many things - from peer pressure to have sex and use drugs to my parents' divorce. This is not an advice book. It is a book written by teens for teens in their own words, and they touched me deeply. One of my favorites, titled `Silent Scream', written by Ashley, a 16 year old, about being an emotional basket case. This poem could have been written about me when I was her age. I cried when I read `Chain Reaction' written by 19-year-old Megan about the mugging and death of her best friend.

Challenges are a part of each of our lives. It is difficult enough to be a teenager with raging hormones without having to also forgive your best friend for being with the guy who broke your heart or having your dad die or being the shortest kid in class or failing a class. Each chapter includes stories, poems, self-quizzes, and tidbits about movies to see and books to read. Topics include everything from anorexia, cutting yourself, abuse, peer pressure, being stabbed in the back by a friend and much more. This book is not one to be read straight through but to savor the writing on each page, to be referred to when the need arises. It is a valuable resource for parents to help you understand what your teenagers and tweens might be going through. It is well-written, composed of just enough information to be valuable and yet not be overwhelming, and on a level that will easily speak to the teenager in your life.

4 out of 5 stars Chicken Soup For the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal School.......2006-05-22

After reading this book, I found all of the stories included in this compilation very touching. I liked how each short story aimed to teach a little life lesson. The inspiration that these stories carried along with them made me realize how much this book was worth reading. I also enjoyed reading the quizzes and tidbits of information on various topics. The only complaint I would have against this book would be the authors' anecdotes from their own lives. They attempted to relate to teens, but fell short when it came to accuracy. It has been a while since they have been teenagers, and many things have changed in high school. Not only that, but their stories proved to be a bit dull. Other than that, I really did enjoy reading this book, and I look forward to reading other books in this series.

Are you a teen looking for some answers? Well if you are then I have the perfect book for you.
When I read the book Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul: The Real Deal it changed my way of thinking.
I started understanding life more and why it is so hard. And now I better understand when people say it's a rough world out there. I am only twelve and I have a lot more to learn about the world and this book has help me understand a little more about it.
This book has a lot you can learn from for example this book has poems, sort stories, and even some facts. This book is written by different teenagers that wished to share some stories.
The book has stories of friendships, body changes, and even dating. So I reccommend this non-fiction book to everyone who's ready to grow up... P.S This Is Your Home Girl Joslyn Diaz Saying PEACE OUT!!!
Age 12

5 out of 5 stars A MUST READ FOR TEENS.......2005-10-25

I think that this book is better then some of the other Chicken Soup books because it specializes on one topic instead of being so broad like the other books. Also, I could definitely relate to this book more then other teenage Chicken Soup books, making this book more enjoyable for me. Being a younger teen, school was one of the few topics I could relate to in the other Chicken Soup books, so to produce a book like this, it was really helpful.
This book still contains stories from teens, but the author contributes more to book. It has many more side bars, and is much more colorful (although it still doesn't have any pictures). This book contains easy to read information about peer pressure, best friends and fighting with them, making new friends, moving away, cliques and much, much more. I would really recommend this book to anyone over the age of eleven years old. You don't necessarily have to be struggling in school to read Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul Real Deal: School, it's a good read for anyone who likes reading this kind of material.

5 out of 5 stars AWESOME!!.......2005-10-22

If you are like me, and are really careful with your money and aren't sure if u want this book because your worried your going to waste your money. TRUST ME, you will not waste it!! This is a MUST READ!!
As I was reading this book, the whole time I was going "EXACTLY!! FINALLY SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS WHAT WE HAVE TO GO THROUGH EVERYDAY!!!" because seriously, teen life has MAJORLY changed from when the adults were teens. Its nothing like it use to be. And this is coming from a teen who has been through it all, stress, evil teachers, annoying parents, depression, bullying, a crap load of homework, evil coaches, peer pressure AND MORE!! I think teachers, parents, concelors, coaches, etc...should all read this so they know exactly what us teen have to go through everyday of our life!! Let's face it, TEEN YEARS SUCK!!!!

5 out of 5 stars this book has spirt.......2007-10-01

I know these are not the most amazing books ever written but i enjoy them. I love catherine hapka's series star power it is alot like this story. they are both about "down to earth teens" it makes them seem unreal, but is nice for people who want a sweet story instead of most storys about teens. In this book it is school spirt week and at the end of the week there is a sadie hokins dance. Troy is waiting for Grabreila to ask him, but there is something else on her mind. She over hears her mom on the phone talking to her boss. And grabriala thinks they are going to have to move again. The ending is not queit what i thought it would be but it does have that super sweet happy ending.

5 out of 5 stars hsm books rock!!.......2007-10-01

This is a short and sweet book. I read it in a day (plus or minsus a few hours.) It was a sweet story. I think that it is very nice for young girls to read i would recommened it to anyone who likes disney or the movies (high school musical 1 or 2.) This book takes place inbetween the two movies. And at the moment there is a battle of the bands, troy is doing it with his b-ball friends. Sharpay is doing a girl group, with her devoted "fans" (and taylor.) so where does that leave gabreila and ryan?? the book of course has a happy ending but is very nice.

5 out of 5 stars Very helpful resource.......2007-10-02

I have used this book for years as an resource for developing great questions for couples who are working through issues or considering marriage - a great conversation starter. I have shared this book with a number of counselor friends in several areas and think it is a source that is helpful for those who think mathematically and for those who think figuratively. Millman guides folks in a way that can open up even more possibilities and when folks are "stuck" with a problem to solve or a life issue to resolve some new thinking modes are helpful and often productive. I think overall folks think it is a fun mode of self exploration.

I had this as required reading for my Reiki classes and it was Great. Enough said.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome book!.......2007-01-12

Dan Millman has done it again! His common sense approach to living life on life's terms is demonstrated again in this enlightening book, plus a personal look at my life (and yours) and how to make the most of it. His detailed description of the life I was meant to live spoke to me about what I came here to learn, where I am in the spectrum of learning it, and what tools I can use to go further, all in a down-to-earth, non-judgmental way. Some of my friends also enjoyed hearing about their lives, and we could see that much of what was in the book was a true description of the traits of each other. I'd highly recommend this book.

5 out of 5 stars So accurate it's scary.......2007-01-10

This book is fabulous!! It so accurately describes your personality based on the date of your birth. It tells you the positive aspects of your personality, as well as parts that you need to work on to live a happy life. everyone that sees this book is surprised that it so accurately describes them. more than one person has tried to steal this book from me, so i have given out several copies as gifts. and the are such a hit!

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable Book.......2006-12-09

Certainly one of the Top 5 books I have ever read in my life. If I had only come across this information 10 years ago, I would have had a better understanding of myself, and would not have needlessly suffered the ill effects of my negative side, as I had.

I am a 31/4, according to the book. I was absolutely flawed at how accurate the description was of me. In fact, I was laughing aloud, while I was reading it. It was almost as if the author had been spying on me my entire life, and wrote that chapter about me and my life! Seriously!

I learned A LOT about the kind of person I am from this book, and I will take with me extremely valuable lessons along my journey through this life. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who wishes to understand themselves better. Start here, if you are on the journey to enligthenment. It's an excellent starting point. Unforunately for me, I read about 100 other self-help books, which brought minimal results, before I could fully understand myself.

5 out of 5 stars You'll Find No Other Better!.......2007-01-23

John Opsopaus is an incredible scholar & that is what lays the foundation for this magnificent book & deck of Tarot cards. I am a fanatical researcher of the "Arcane Arts" & have learned SO much from Mr. O's website. I have never owned a Tarot deck before & was scarcely interested as I'm as psychic as anybody & just learned to follow my hunches at an early age & I like suprises. However, after reading about each of the Major Arcana on his site, I felt compelled to get the book & deck.

As it turns out, my studies of Alchemy, Astrology, Magick & Mythology all came in handy because this book is SO thorough in it's use of symbology & numerolgy, & synthesizes these cross-culturally. This has a layering effect & I'm certain to learn even more upon subsequent readings of this tome. While there was plenty of dot connecting I could do while I read it- there was still plenty I could nowise make use of as I had no frame of reference.

If you are new to Arcane Arts this is probably NOT the best place for you to start unless you have some amazing gift of Intelligence &/or understanding beccause this IS complex. Mr. O puts the Tarot back in it's original order making one wonder WHY it was EVER changed & why SO many just blindly go along with those changes. Also, this particular Tarot is NOT a game- there is a whole industry of pseudo-occult objects & websites (read: Occult-lite or diet-Occult) that caters to the surfacey, dabblers & thank Goodness for it as that keeps us all safe. This Tarot is in depth citing around 1600 sources.

One can visit John Opsopaus' website & learn in doses before deciding whether or not they're ready to go this deeply into the Tarot but please, whoever you are, wherever you are, start telling anyone you know with any interest in the Tarot that most decks DO not use the original order of the Major Arcana & it's MOST likely that the Tarot has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with the Quaballa. (or howEVER it's spelled.)

5 out of 5 stars Maths and Magic synthesised.......2005-08-11

I am a newcomer to the Tarot, which is probably not the best way to start this book. However, I'm well read in Pythagorean esoterica, and dived straight in. What can I say?

Phenomenal! The logic and symmetry which underlie Pythagoras' school of mysticism, is astounding. And, despite being extremely lucid, the author is clearly a highly qualified and academically rigorous authority on the subject.

Discovering this book honestly feels like stumbling upon some ancient priceless treasure. Perhaps the greatest preSocratic philosopher, Pythagoras treated magic and science as an indestructable whole, and the meaningfulness that emerges is a powerful antidote to our modern schizophrenic view of the world.

I didn't buy the book for the tarot deck. But having extensively researched the Tarot since, I don't think one could get nearer to profoundly insightful divination

5 out of 5 stars A great resource for understanding the Tarot........2002-07-23

The subtitle of this book is "An Interpretation Based on Pythagorean and Alchemical Principles," and as such it gives a broad introduction to the symbols at the root of Western occult iconography.

In his introduction Opsopaus writes that he's written the book for neopagans who are dissatisfied with traditional decks based on the theology and esotericism of the late Renaissance. But that doesn't mean the book isn't useful for traditionalists as well. After all, much of the esoteric though of the Renaissance grew out of Pythagoras' thought and the Greek mystery traditions. I use traditional decks myself, but I reference this book constantly.

In fact, anyone interested in the history of symbols will find a wealth of material in this book. The bibliography in the back is absolutely wonderful. The section on Pythagorean numerology is the best I have read on that subject.

In addition, the cards are beautiful; the symbols are different than a traditional deck, but not so different that you can't recognize immediately which major arcana card you're looking at. The pip cards have no pictures, which is the way the early tarot decks were created. However, their meanings are easily derived by combining the numerological information with the element qualities. Opsopaus does this in his section on the pip cards.

The book starts out with a section on the background of the metaphysical ideas the author deals with, then goes on to sections on the major, then the minor arcana. The fourth section covers divination thoroughly and with some wonderful insights not covered in other books.

I first found out about Opsopaus' tarot writings on his encyclopaedic website, which has the same name as the book. I originally tried printing out the website material (before the book was published), but there was just too much. I've found the book to be a must-have in my Tarot library. It's not only scholarly but also very readable, which makes for a good learning experience.

Book Description

Professor of Music at Colgate University and a widely respected musicologist, Godwin traces the history of the idea, held since ancient times, that the whole cosmos, with its circling planets and stars, is in some way a musical or harmonious entity. The author shows how this concept has continued to inspire philosophers, astronomers, and mystics from antiquity to the present day.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A Conscious Cosmos ~ Re-Discovering The Adam Kadmon.......2006-05-19

Jocelyn Godwin's 'The Harmony of the Spheres: The Pythagorean Tradition in Music' was published in '92 by Inner Traditions Publ. This 512 page text along with his 'Music, Mysticism and Magic' in '86 and 'Harmonies of Heaven and Earth' in '87 comprise a trilogy of monumental importance.

Building from the foundation of these two previous works Joscelyn Godwin presents a treatise encapsulating all the arcane and mundane wisdom of the ages to come to a conclusion that we knew all along in our heart of hearts. There is no separation, no "I and Thou" in the universe. All is one and music is the hidden key to unlocking this ancient truth. The cosmos is a musical, harmonious entity (Adam Kadmon)!

His scholarship is beyond repute, his research exhaustive and his conclusions, well you decide.

5 out of 5 stars Source Readings in Music.......2002-12-11

Yes, this is a highly specialized, scholarly, and esoteric collection but it contains the translated writings of philosophers of music not easily available. Not even the huge "Strunk's Source Readings (1998)" has the information which Godwin has collected and translated: Nicomachus, Pliny, Ptolemy, Kepler, Fludd; Arab writers Al-Safa, Al-Katib; the kabalist Ibn Latif. If you are a fan of Godwin's research as I am, these source readings will fill in the gaps in the history of music which is not taught. It is, however, a reference book first and foremost.
