Customer Reviews:
Extremely useful and well written.......2007-05-13
This book is a must have for any therapist working with children. It brings you into the world of the child and the means of his/her expression.
New book.......2006-07-23
Perfect condition; new book; great packaging and arrived on time. This book cost less than paying my school's book store for it and it was deliever-free!
This is THE Book for aspiring play therapists!.......2005-07-19
I was required to read the book for a class I was completing on Play therapy. It was a very easy read, well organized with a good mixture of research and anecdotal information. What makes the book a truly outstanding resource is Dr. Landreth's very candid insight into the practice of play therapy as well as his willingness to share with the reader his very sincere love and respect for children.
Clear, concise, engaging introduction to play therapy.......1997-06-24
This book is a necessary addition to any therapists library, especially those who are just beginning or are interested in knowing the foundations for therapy with children. Clearly written and well organized, it is easy to read and an invaluable reference. Highly recommended for beginning play therapists
Customer Reviews:
This book good for begginers .......2007-08-14
This book offers a good review over the concepts concerned with Videography. I have a 2 years experience in Video Editing. Home and Musical videos are my preferences, but I am looking for new options.
Many video editing concepts about Codecs, DVD burning, Editing work flow, Tips to increase quality on shutting (Slow motion), production tips were the more useful for me.
Recommendation: The practice footage could be better. and readers could take advantage of it. I suggest add more practices tips in order to capture the videographer interest.
This was a book, you REALLY should know that..........2007-08-07
I have a question. Why do the shadow people age us with smothering envy as we sleep? Does anyone else wake up at night sometimes and smell their acrid, bitter and dusty presence?!! Why must they drain! Just as starlight bores holes through us they envy and groan silently until the stress of it works us all into withering, wilting, oldster shadows of ourselves. I like KFC even though its grease and smell make me tired, and sort of nauseous. Why do High functioning autistics loop on things other people do not even notice. My tongue keeps tasting itself in an infinite loop. My friend Marko made his "Rodin Coil" to change the world then ran out of energy and now he plays all day with his children. I will edit a video of you if you pay me $250 an hour. I really would prefer that you be interesting, is that rude? I receive about 3/4 of the stuff I order from Amazon because I live on The Big Island and the mail carriers steal things here. It's either that or Amazon just sucks and they're giving 1/4 of my orders to the shadow people who keep turning my KFC rancid. I knew the book already, Q Bert happened when Pac Man mutated and evolved a dna shaped spine and began worshiping sacred geometry. It's all about Vortexes. Go youtube 2012, 19.5 and learn about Rodin Coils. Then be Happy.
Take your editing up a notch..........2006-08-25
I have been using entry-level NLEs (e.g. Vegas Movie Studio, Pinnacle Studio, Magix Movie Edit Pro) for about four years. Any progress in my editing skills came from the traditional 'trial and error' approach, and from learning by watching other amateur-produced movies in a video club that I belong to...
"Editing Digital Video" helped me learn new techniques and approachs to editing my movies. Suggestions on how to get organized, good definitions & explanations of editing jargon, and the included footage for an editing exercise all help you take your editing up a notch to produce better movies.
The book is text-heavy---I would like to have seen more illustrations, and possibly a professionally editing version (or two) of the editing exercise. Highly recommended.
A great start.......2006-03-23
Editing digital video gave me a good insight into the baiscs of digital editing. The last time I edited video it was on a linear system and I found some other texts a little confusing. This book enabled me to use my NLE system with confidence.
Mostly junk.......2005-01-08
This book is 1/3 listings of movies and other such irrelevant nonsense.
The editing information may have been relevant several years ago, but is now completely and totally dated.
Certainly readable, but completely vapid.
Book Description
For nearly three decades, Sandra Bertman has been exploring the power of the arts and belief symbols, metaphors, stories to alleviate psychological and spiritual pain not only of patients, grieving family members, and affected communities but also of the nurses, clergy and physicians who minister to them.
Her training sessions and clinical interventions are based on the premise that bringing out the creative potential inherent in each of us is just as relevant perhaps more so as psychiatric theory and treatement models since grief and loss are an integral part of life. Thus, this work was compiled to illuminate the many facets that link grief, counseling, and creativity. The multiple strategies suggested in these essays will help practitioners enlarge their repertoire of hands-on skills and foster introspection and empathy in readers.
Among the contributing authors are physician and nurse writers (Aaron Lazare, Bill Lamers, Laurence Schneiderman, and Cortney Davis), psychologists, photographers, and art and music therapists skilled with adult and child populations (Barbara M. Sourkes, Nancy Fried, and Elsa Dorfman). Essays on the art and thoughts of Kaethe Kollwitz and Edvard Munch, on traditional religious practices and the latest internet interventions, on puppets, music and film all enrich the dialogue.
The four sections of this anthology are (1) The Arts, Personal Griefs, Professional Roles; (2) Some Ways Caregivers Use the Arts for Themselves and Those They Companion; (3) Lessons from Cultures Old and New; and (4) Basic Needs of Grieving People. This provocative array of insights and techniques is further punctuated with rich fiction, poetry, photography, and visual art meant to address the impasses the moments of disconnection encountered in the human acts of caring and is geared to refuel even the most seasoned therapist.
Customer Reviews:
This book reviews the role of expressive arts in grief work.......1999-08-01
"Grief and the Healing Arts: Creativity as Therapy" is one of the most significant books I have ever read as a creative arts therapist. Professionals who use the arts in their grief work with clients, and individuals who have used the arts to come to terms with their own grief are represented. Poignant photagraphs underscore the articles. The editor, Sandra Bertman, PhD,is an expert in thanatology. She is Professor of Humanities in Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Bertman brings both a strong theoretical base and a respect for the anecdotal to her choices of articles for this book. I strongly recommend it!

Handbook of Clinical Intervention in Child Sexual Abuse (Lexington Books)
ASIN: 0876308248 |
Book Description
This volume demonstrates the power of art therapy as a tool for intervening with children from violent homes. Emphasis is given to the short-term setting where time is at a premium and circumstances are unpredictable - because within this setting, mental health practitioners often experience a sense of helplessness in their work with the youngest victims of abusive families.; In this new edition, the author describes the intervention process from intake to termination, highlighting the complex issues involved at various levels of evaluation and interpretation. The text is augmented with 95 children's drawings, which serve to fill the gap between theory and reality.; Specific topics include: inherent frustrations for therapists working in battered women's shelters; what to include in art evaluation; evaluating child abuse and neglect; group art intervention in shelters; and art expression as assessment and therapy with sexually abused children.
Customer Reviews:
Breatking the Silence is only the beginning.......2006-11-10
This book offers extensive knowledge of both the children's perspectives of their home life and shelter life. Working with this population is trying at best, one never knows if the mother is going back; because of this children learn to cope in ways that are mostly nonverbal. They've learned to stay quiet for the sake of family. Cathy Malchiodi explores this silence; in ways that, only art and other expressive therapies can offer. This book offers insight for new and experienced therapist who are working with this population.
A thought-provoking and practical text that provides a framework for working with traumatized children........1997-12-18
This text offers a solid framework for working with children who have been exposed to violence and who need to ventilate their concerns in a safe and supportive environment. With clinical skill and masterful teaching, Cathy Malchiodi provides an instructive manual that offers clear and informative information on how drawings can be used to help children overcome their negative life experiences. A significant contribution to the mental health field.
outstanding resource in work with children.......1997-10-15
The author's extensive experience makes this an outstanding resource that provides the guided direction needed to give traumatized children the opportunity to find relief from the terrors of their traumas. A must for all mental health professionals who work with traumatized children. Readers in general will find the more than 90 drawings by children from violent homes both fascinating and poignant. Author presents the use of art therapy with clarity and simplicity,so that therapists can immediately learn the use of this tool in their work with children who have been abused.

Art Therapy Sourcebook (Sourcebooks)
ASIN: 1853022284 |
Book Description
There is an ever-increasing effort among mental health professionals from many countries all over the world to exchange information on all aspects of child sexual abuse and it is widely acknowledged that there is a need for knowledge of therapeutic techniques in addressing the many issues involved in such abuse. In the light of this, there has been considerable interest in the use of art therapy with such a population, among both American and British social workers, psychologists and mental health workers. Based on ten years of clinical work in both the United States and the United Kingdom, this book presents a comprehensive discussion of therapeutic issues and the use of art therapy with sexually abused children, their families, and both adult and adolescent sex offenders. Although internationally there are theoretical and cultural differences in approaches to this form of therapy, the author argues that regardless of the theoretical model of choice, methods in art therapy can be effectively adapted to address the many difficulties experienced by abused children and their families.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent book.......2004-12-28
I need to take the time to say this is a wonderful book. I work in the expressive arts when doing therapy with youth and found this book to be informative. This book is simple that it talks about how to use therapy and the expressive arts as a form of healing for the client. Straightforwardand very easy to read. You will enjoy it.
It shows a difference between art therapies in which seek to look at the work and try to figure out its meaning. Expressive arts explained in this book states...only the client can say what they feel about what they do. I agree.
I recommend this book to expressive arts therapist, expressive arts faciliatators, and counselors who want to learn how to use the expressive arts in their own work.
This book is fantastic. The ideas are great healing tools!.......1999-03-08
I have read many books on related subjects and this book is the first that I was able to read from cover to cover without putting it down. The author does an excellent job of explaining the tools and methods that are healing in the arena of expressive arts psychology. I recommend it highly!!!
