$14.32 for convenience and light blue background.......2007-07-03
The posters are not colored as depicted. The three instructional posters are against a light blue background.
Great basic tool.......2007-04-15
This four poster pack is an excellent tool for a complete weekly dumbbell workout. The exercises are explained in detailed, well written steps, with a start position image and an end position image. I had no problem following any of the outlined steps.
The exercises are well organized on each of the four posters, and grouped into categories such as abdominals, back, biceps, chest, legs, etc...
I will likely buy more of the poster packs offered from this company in the future, as I consider them an excellent value for use in my home gym.
Great photo's, no need to flip pages.......2007-01-08
Great tool for work-outs, you'll see the exact work-outs and descriptions in seconds, without the need to flip through pages. Quality is OK even though the lamination is a bit thin as far as I'm concerned. Recommended.
good info at a glance.......2006-08-25
We use these all the time in our home gym. Instead of grabbing a book or manual and flipping through pages all the correct advice is there at a glance. EXCELLENT photographs. Recommended.
Good quick reference guide.......2006-07-14
Nice posters will help you stay on track with proper techniques. Also helps provides some motivation in your work out area.

Book Description
Recorded history is a finely-woven magic fabric of intricate lies about events predating the sixteenth century. There is not a single piece of evidence that can be reliably and independently traced back earlier than the eleventh century. This book details events that are substantiated by hard facts and logic, and validated by new astronomical research and statistical analysis of ancient sources.

Calculations are only as good as your numbers.......2007-08-03
Yes, we can all agree that mainstream history is nearly 100% BS due to politics, economics, ego, problems with dating techniques, and various conspiracies. Agreed. But, I've been researching the distinct possibility that human history (in terms of civilizations) are much more ancient than we've been told, so coming across this book was very interesting to me. I wondered how Fomenko could be wrong (if at all) because he is very persuasive in his presentations. Then it dawned on me. If at previous times in prehistory, due to the various catastrophies that are well documented (comets, asteroids, planetary disruptions, plasma discharge, pole reversals, etc) the Earth was in a different position in relation to the sun, different tilt on its axis, different orbit, different rotation (in terms of velocity and DIRECTION), and the continents were in different positions, then would this not cause the ancients to see the sky (constellations) differently? In other words, is Fomenko making erronious assumptions about the physics of the Earth in pre-history, which then corrupt his data with regards to dating the relevant astrology? The last event to seriously disrupt our planet occured roughly 3500 years ago, according to other good researchers, so is it possible Fomenko has been confused by this? The vastly different physics of our planet in the not so distant past may explain this confusion, which is not to say the "mainstream" version of history is correct; on the contrary. I am not an expert in these fields, but wanted to see if this idea could spark discussion.
Pants on fire?.......2007-07-19
Will people ever read before spamming? Yes, Jesuits could not rewrite world history alone, they had help. Anyway, Dr Prof Acad A.Fomenko does not point to jesuits as the driving force of world wide history manipulation in published volumes 1,2,3;, actually he barely mentions the poor devils. Check it with 'Search inside' feature, please. China is rarely mentioned either, in fact, Dr Fomenko is completely eurocentric. Right, his theory contradicts all mainstream schools of history, because in their actual state they are all built on blatantly erroneus chronology. You don't need a mysterious cabal (conspiracy) to falsify history, the falsification is its modus operandi. It is inherent to history(ians) to falsify (distort) events, as it is inherent to humans to boast as it is inherent to power (authority) to legimize itself by referrring to glorious past made to its own order. Dr Prof Fomenko and team have identified scores of instances of such manipulation in Russian, European, etc.. history, and delivered valid statistical proof thereof. His own 'reconstruction' is completely another story. Forget c14 as a valid method of dating. W.Libby has initially discovered a brilliant method of INDEPENDENT dating. Too bad, c14 method has become a joke after a forced marrige with dendrochronology with consensual chronological scale inbuilt. Radiocarbon method can't stand blind tests, but is so very productive as a rubberstamp.
Accepted History & Chronology Must Be Changed. .......2007-04-09
There is no doubt that history as most know it is a sham, & institution's version of History both University & Church is fradulent & inaccurate. Everything was established with an agenda, The real "Dark Ages" are now when we have access to incredible amounts of information past authorities & more important 'common folk' didn't have but our institutions & educators are slow to evolve because of what has ignorantly & arrogantly been taught for too long. This is on many subjects not just Chronology.
For anyone to question "Why would a Mathematician have anything credible to say of History?" The answer is from Dr. Fomenko's preface in the book: "It would be worthwhile to remind the reader that in the XVI-XVII century Chronology was considered to be a subdivision of Mathematics." These volumes could possibly be some of the most important works to date & should be read by everyone with an interest in History, especially professors & educators who have a duty to the public. I have read both books & must say that 'Chronology 1' has some very eye opening & revolutionary information. Even if these volumes are part true the implications are profound & opens the doors to further investigations & questions which must be done. I speak several different lanquages & must say the logic Dr. Fomenko uses with "inflection" of words & words being read from left to right in one region & right to left in another then written backwards, the removal of vowels & get down to basics of words, or different cities & locations having the same name etc. is correct. Vowel usage has always been optional & varied, actually complicating linquistics & study. The first thing one has to understand is that words never had a fixed spelling in history like we do now, the spelling of words was mutable & regional, as well as names & titles of people were vast, varied & changed, NOTHING WAS FIXED or understood linear. Matters of Life & Death as well as financial profiteering yesterday & today were & are made with ignorant, illogical & conspiratorial views of history & reality, it's time people get closer to the Truth & society collectively grow up.
Very Interesting.......2007-03-07
It is a good proposal and I believe it will mature into something even better in the future. I think it deserves to be read.
History as Science Fiction.......2007-01-10
Anatoly Fomenko has written a very intriguing book, full of pictures, charts, and computer 'proof' of his thesis: backwards of AD900 we don't really know what happened or when. Between AD900 and AD1600 there is more certainty, but there is still a lot of fuzzy ground, and things don't get reliable until we get past the 1600's where the printing press made it very difficult for the perpetrators of this timeline manipulation to change anything that had been committed to print. The Dark Ages did not happen. Books were burned for a reason. One organization has doubled the actual length of its existence by expanding the real chronology. Read why.
I had always wondered why Christ died about AD33 and yet men waited until the 11th century to form the Knights Templar, the Cathars, etc and go after the Holy Land by force. Why the 1000 year gap? Turns out there wasn't more than a 10-12 year gap and he proves it using astronomy. This also implies that the planet is not as old as we have been told, and current Christian and other creationist scientists are already championing that idea without being aware of Fomenko's book. The two groups, creationist scientists and the Russian mathematical analysts corroborate each other. Fascinating.
Of course, all this flies in the face of what we have been told traditionally is the 'proper' chronology of western civilization, and most readers will experience 'cognitive dissonance' in reading this book. It means that our history going backwards from AD1600 becomes progressively more incorrect and unreliable until it cannot be trusted at all... in the space of 700-800 years.
Naturally, the curious, open-minded reader will want to know WHO did this, WHY, and did any of the events we think of as really ancient ever happen?
Dr. Fomenko is a respected scientist/mathematician at Moscow State University who has already answered these questions to the satisfaction of his initially skeptical colleagues. Most of them are now believers, a few still refuse to believe (the usual diehards), and of course the western press has ignored Fomenko's work -- for obvious reasons when you read the book. The ones who perpetrated this chronology ruse have a lot to answer for. They are still with us. That's why this book is a well-kept secret.
I gave the book a 4-star rating because I was unable to check out some of his claims; those I checked were as he said. But if even 1/3 of his claims are true, this punches a big hole in what we think is our history, the meaning of western civilization, our educational process (for repeating the ruse as gospel), and the trustworthiness of the organization that perpetrated this ruse, well-intentioned or not.
This book relates to current research into a Young Earth paradigm, to John Keel's discoveries about our planet, and Fr Malachi Martin's insights (in his now out-of-print books). We are indeed sheep who are manipulated and kept ignorant -- for a reason. While knowing what these men have to say may be the "booby prize" (as in: 'what can you do with this knowledge?'), it will provide interesting reading. Didn't someone say: "...and the Truth will set you free."?? For you to judge if this book contains the truth.

Book Description
Idea Index kick-started a revolution in graphic design books, unique in size, feel--and most important--wealth of ideas. Layout Index is the next step, a compendium of layout idea-generators that will help designers explore multiple possibilities for visual treatments each time they turn the page. The visual and textual suggestions are divided into eight major areas, including newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, advertising, stationery, page layout, and Web pages.
Each of these examples are designed to inspire effective solutions in the viewer's mind, rather than simply give specific answers to design problems. The tone and temperament of the design problems, as well as their solutions, vary from traditional to cutting-edge, from corporate to crazy. Designers will learn to solve their design problems, produce fantastic work and become better, more creative thinkers.
* Both creativity books and layout books are extremely popular
* As proven by Idea Index, the format of this book is a proven winner with designers
Customer Reviews:
great for students, good for old hands, priceless for adhoc designers.......2007-01-04
The whole "index" series is good for jump starting when in a stuck place. For average students it can really be helpful to get them to seek/create more variety in their work. For marketing or PR individuals or students it is a must have. Many individuals may have a cursory introduction to design and yet find themselves having to create layouts and design. The Index Books are a lifesaver.
Sad leftovers from the dark ages..........2006-10-14
This book is at first appearance, visually interesting and consuming. But upon closer look (as in opening it) it's not worth the time, money or breath sadly. The concepts and ideas within this book can be inspiring to thoses who have the time and energy, but overall this book is just a display of bad, kitsch design. My advice? Don't bother.
Not overly sophisticated.......2005-09-06
I bought this along with the Color Index, and I must admit I'm not overly impressed with the ideas in this text.
I will keep it onboard because you -never- know what might spark your creativity, and I must admit there are a few good ideas to jump off from in this book. I donno, I guess I just feel underminded when I flip through this book. It is a bit too kitchy for me (think clip-art-like graphics), and many of the solutions presented in it are too busy and hardly professional.
i use a lot.......2004-12-09
for those who aren't experienced in the in's and out's of page layout and design, this book is a lifesaver. it really gets your creative juices flowing by simply giving you a full range of possible ideas for how you can change up your design. i found it much more useful than the idea book, which didn't really help me with the visual expression part. if you have a concept and you simply want to consider all the possibilities for how you can express it on a page, i recommend getting this book!
A simple, helpful guide.......2004-07-09
Design inspired by this little book leans towards clean & well ordered displays of information. This book provides basics of page building & information distribution.
Beginners will like this book, however, those looking for more complex layout ideas should either work on the existing ideas taking them to the next levels, or peruse other books.
Book Description
In much the way that the CD replaced the album, the poster has waned as a messaging vehicle. The poster has now become a postcard and e-mail blast, leaving many to long for the lost age when posters were not only major promotional vehicles, but also artwork worthy of framing.
Some of the world's best designers just could not stand idle while the poster fell by the wayside. They turned to the poster for personal expression and as an outlet from more restrictive mediums.
This book showcases their breathtaking artwork, which has proven that the poster can still serve as a worthy communications tool. In doing so, they've brought the poster back to prominence. In this book, the author has compiled the world's finest new work at the height of this rebirth. There is currently no book on the market that can claim it features a "definitive" poster collection.
Book Description
Comprehensive yet concise, America’s Longest War provides a complete and balanced history of the Vietnam War. It is not mainly a military history, but seeks to integrate military, diplomatic, and political factors in order to clarify America’s involvement and ultimate failure in Vietnam. While it focuses on the American side of the equation, it provides sufficient consideration of the Vietnamese side to make the events comprehensible.
Customer Reviews:
Concise, Systematic, Written Well; 4.5 stars.......2007-06-28
This is a concise but systematic overview and narrative of the Vietnam war. Evenhanded and drawing on a remarkably rich secondary literature, America's Longest War covers American involvement in Vietnam from the immediate post-WWII period up to the Clinton administration. This is mainly the story of American policy making and the American experience. While Herring does deal with the South Vietnamese experience, there is relatively little analysis of North Vietnamese experience and decision making. This is unavoidable due to the lack of material from North Vietnam.
Herring presents our involvment in Vietnam as the logical, though not inevitable, result of the basic containment strategy of the Cold War. He describes very well the gradual entanglement in Vietnam across multiple Presidential administrations, culminating in Johnson's decision to commit major numbers of American ground troops. Herring does very well also in describing the diplomatic history and its interaction with domestic American politics. He does quite well at the basic political history of South Vietnam and provides a nice overview of the basic military history.
Herring's basic point is that the containment logic formed the lens through information about Vietnam was seen. The containment logic was essentially universally accepted in the USA and even became a crucial part of domestic politics. There were very few efforts, made usually by a small number of people and generally rebuffed, to critically examine the idea that deterring a Communist takeover in South Vietnam was really essential to American security. In Herring's presentation, our involvement in Vietnam takes on a tragic dimension.
Its impossible to read this book today and avoid comparisons with the Iraq morass. Indeed, its striking how often the Vietnam experience resonates with our contemporary problems. For example, here is Herring discussing American efforts at pacification in the mid-1960s, "The fundamental problem was the absence of security.' Or how about, "Members of Congress found it impossible to vote against fund for American forces in the field and hesitated to challenge the President directly, but many who has firmly backed him at first came out openly against him." I was surprised at how often aspects of the Vietnam experience have emerged in Iraq.
A Great Account of American Grand Strategy in Vietnam.......2007-02-04
Like many people here, I read this book for a college class concerned with providing an explanation of the numerous questions that arise whenever one ponders America in Vietnam, like why it was there, and why it lost. Any student or curious reader should find this work a great tool for this task.
The book is fairly short, numbering less than 400 pages. By that restraint alone, no reader should expect a thorough, voluminous exposition on every aspect of the war akin to Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire, or a textbook for that matter. It's a piece on political history with a general thesis, numerous recurring themes, and plenty of information to back everything up.
The thesis is that the containment strategy America adopted around the Korean War, and its perceiving Vietnam as a strategic door to all of Southeast Asia, prevented each successive president from leaving Vietnam to the wolves and forced each one to progressively raise American stakes n the region. Numerous other variables--some consistent to all presidencies, like fear of facing the same political bloodletting as Truman got over "losing" China in 1949; some specific to the president, like JFK's need to take a stand somewhere after negotiating on Laos, and after the Berlin wall was erected--accompanied this grand one, but the central theme of this book draws a vivid picture of proud Cold Warriors refusing to back down and unwilling to commit entirely, hoping to bluff out an enemy who had already gone all in.
Of course, because it is a work with a point to prove rather than a huge collection of unfiltered facts, the reader must be wary of buying into Herring's perspective without private review of his logic. That's true for every book of this sort, however, and for what it's worth, Herring makes a very convincing case.
On the technical side of things, this book could have done more to centralize its presentation of thematic events. Since the author shifts between historical narrative and analysis, the latter could have summaries and reminders of recurring concepts on the margins. As it is, the reader has to discover themes like "US arrogance" or "governmental deception" by himself and note their recurrence without any assistance from Herring. Doing this isn't the standard for most books, though (the only one I can think off that does this is Landmark Thucydides), I can't criticize the book for not following up on these suggestions.
One of the best.......2007-01-09
I read this book in graduate school and thought that it gave the best start to finish depiction of the war. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn more about the Vietnam war.
One of the enduring images.......2005-01-21
is the network of bicyclists -- children, women and men -- who expertly navigated the region during the American campaigns. A foot bridge blown up was instantly restored. Supplies were expertly moved about. It was their whole backyard.
Not complete, but an interesting read.......2004-09-18
Vietnam is one of the most critical and debated subjects In the History of the United States during the twentieth century. Numerous books have been written detailing the only war lost by the American military in its brief two hundred year existence. In America's Longest War George Herring examines the critical periods of American involvement Vietnam. As one reference point, the author researched the presidential libraries, first hand accounts, the official Pentagon Papers and other resources to provide a comprehensive look at the American involvement in Vietnam beginning in 1950.
Herring's essay begins with the First Indochinese war in 1950 as he documents the major factors involved and how America's Longest War escalated in to the struggle that would affect America long after the troops were gone. Each chapter comprises a specific aspect of the conflict ranging from Presidential agreements between Diem and Kennedy, the concept of search and destroy, and ending with Nixon's "Peace with Honor" withdrawal. Clearly drawn maps in the text and a separate foldout map are included supplying the reader with a frame of reference for troop movements, battle locations and routes of the Ho Chi Minh trail. Charts of military strength and casualties assist the reading with understanding impact the American presence had in any given year.
Herring compiles and exhibits his information in an easy to read format allowing the reader to follow the sometimes confusing and often controversial events in Vietnam and the U.S. The author does not concentrate solely on the war or events in Vietnam, but alludes to issues such as support or lack of it. Photos at the beginning of each chapter and throughout help place the reader in the era and closer to the events than plain words on a page would attain. The book concludes with a pronunciation guide for the Vietnamese language and a section of additional readings for further research and understanding that include the author's sources for quotes. Even though Herring provides an abundance of peer sources, he also quotes other works that he produced to help substantiate the work presented here.
Herring's contribution is well thought out, concise and researched. Throughout the essay, the author is able to limit his bias in one of the most controversial subjects in American history which allows the reader to form their own opinion based on facts supplied. While it is not an overall history encompassing every aspect of the war, it does provide a solid starting point as it introduces man of the key representatives present during this time. America's Longest War centers more on the American foreign policy and the diplomatic aspect instead of specific battles or campaigns. Readers interested in strategy of the military or accounts of the conflict should choose from the selections in the Suggested Reading section for more in depth information.

Customer Reviews:
Not enough of the psychedelic works.......2007-09-29
After viewing the Peter Max exhibit at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, I was anxious to see this book, but it was very disappointing. The book mostly contains later paintings which bear no resemblance to the psychedelic posters shown at the De Young. I think it may be time for a new book that just focuses on the works that appears to be somewhat similar to the Yellow Submarine.
Excellent overview.......2007-03-16
This book is GREAT - it gives you a complete understanding of his art past and present.
10 Star Rating.......2007-01-15
I first saw this book on a cruise and knew I had to have it. Its an excellent book for the art enthusiast and a beautiful book for display. I highly recommend to anyone.
Love the Peter Max book.......2007-01-09
I became fascinated with Peter Max after seeing his unique work while I was on a cruise ship this fall. This book is full of images of Peter Max's colorful works of art and it discusses his life story as well. It costs an additional $20 at stores. I decided to wait it out, and order it online. It was worth it.
Quality assured.......2006-08-10
This edition I had was printed in Japan, notwithstanding the quality of the prints, pages and the cover were stunning!
Unfortunately I was hoping for more of Peter Max's psychedelic artwork & merchandise which he was most remembered for, as the book featured most his more recent paintings and his penchant for the Statue of Liberty & American icons. In fact I bought the book as a reference for 60s color scheme & rock posters but retro artwork added up to abt 30 odd pages out of the 240...
I'm thinking contemporary fine-art artists/lovers might take to this book with more enthusiasm than illustrators or graphic designers, despite this, the book still manages to inspire me with Max's whimsical use of paint colors and his contribution to society.

Set in a scrapbook-type format, this book showcases pin-up art used to help G.I.'s show exactly what they were fighting for back during the World Wars.
Plane Nose Art, Calenders and matchbook covers are some of the pieces showcased in this book. Everyone from Vargas to Elvgren's artworks are shown in a small sampling, that'll help entice you to look them up further.
Great racy art (considering it's been decades since they were made) of an era long gone. These pieces are definitely a 'less-is-more' situation where what you don't see is sexier than what you do.
Not Just "Pin-Ups"..........2003-07-29
I decided to add this to my "Pin- Up Book" collection when the price fell below $$$!
Although I really had no idea what to expect, imagine my surprise (and astonishment!), when I discovered that this book is not only a great "Pin-Up" resource, but also a fantastic "Nose Art" book (in it's own right!).
Not only does it cover the B-24 Liberator (in abundance), but also includes the B-17, B-25, B-26 and B-29 (bombers), and features fighter aircraft as well! Tons of color photos, never before published.
As an added bonus, I didn't realize this was a huge "Coffee Table" book! (13.35 x 10.32 in.) with 144 pages of visual delight!
The introduction is the best part!.......2002-08-02
The introduction to this book is an informative piece about various pin-up artists of the WWII era; however, most of the book was a scrapbook style work that left much to be desired. The main fault with the display of images was that there was no way to tell which artists created which images. Another drawback was how "racy" some of the images were. This significantly limits the appropraite audience for this book.
The story and influence of the pin-up girl during WW II.......2001-05-18
For The Boys blends an art history book with a focus on film and military images, considering the story and influence of the pin-up girl during World War II. For The Boys profiles calendars, postcards, mathbooks and other memorabilia featuring the girls and uses many original source images by Vargas, Elvgren and others to accompany photo-packed pages and information. A colorful, revealing collection.
Great photographs and artwork, poor presentation.......2000-09-26
I have quite a few books on the subject matter and although I love the original artwork being presented next to the nose-art photos, I really felt that proper credit should've been given to the artists (both original and the Service Men). On some pieces you can see the signature but on a lot of them, you can't and the artists aren't cited. On the photos of the Bombers and Fighters, it would've been nice if the authors had done a little more research and included Bomb or Fighter Groups/Squadrons to give further credit to the Service men who so faithfully recreated their favorite pin-ups on their aircraft.
The layouts are also sometimes too "BUSY" and give you a SCRAPBOOK FEELING, but again, THE ARTWORK AND PHOTOGRAPHS MAKE UP FOR THE OBVIOUS SHORTCOMINGS.
I would recommend "VINTAGE AIRCRAFT NOSEART" for better pictures of the painted aircrafts, and the "GREAT AMERICAN PIN-UP" as a starting point if you're really interested in both art forms as those two books are jammed packed with both good photographs, and rich history. then perhaps getting books on your favorite individual artists. Mine are Vargas and Elvgren.

STRIKING!.......2001-07-23
Photographic journal that will definitely spur some new ideas. Most are more modern, but reminiscent of the Frank Lloyd Wright style of architecture with very strong lines. Multiple settings and unique media usage. Every structural artist who plans an endeavor in the garden should have this!
Book Description
Surf movies have always attracted a certain kind of audience: passionate, committed, and, quite often, stoned. The posters that advertised these low-budget movies began as colorful notices stapled onto beachside telephone poles in the early fifties. They were full of promises "See the biggest wave EVER!!," "California pointbreak perfection!!" and surfers pounded in, wanting to see the best surfers on the tastiest waves. A splash hit when it debuted in 1966, The Endless Summer, with its ultra dayglo view of beach life, proved that surf movies had made it big time. Four decades later, surf expert Matt Warshaw brings to wave riders everywhere this singular collection of more than 140 amazing and rare posters, covering everything from the bubbly optimism of Gidget to the psychedelic inventiveness of Pacific Vibrations. Including worn ticket stubs, photos of old-time premieres, and a side-splitting history of the surf movie in all its shaggy glory, Surf Movie Tonite! brilliantly illustrates the intersection of beach and film culture.
Customer Reviews:
Could be cool, BUT..........2005-12-13
Matt Warshaw has already staked his claim as being one of the top surf writers. Having edited SURFER Magazine, written THE book on Mavericks (the monster big wave spot in Northern California we saw in Riding Giants) and then penning The Encyclopedia of Surfing, a 770 page door stop of a book that packs in more information about the sport/activity/lifestyle than anyone needs to know, Warshaw has more than demonstrated his chops as a researcher, writer and editor.
Now Chronicle Books has released Surf Movie Tonite!: Surf Movie Poster Art, 1957-2004, a nice looking 143 page book of surf movie posters reproduced in full color and big enough to actually see and appreciate those ephemeral graphic gems.
In the past, surf movies tended to be made by surfers for surfers, or by Hollywood Studios, looking to catch a fad. The surfer made enthusiast films were produced and screened in the tradition of pre-television travelogues, and their period piece posters reflected that amateur effort with their lack of sophistication and abundance of stoke. The surf community by and large didn't care for the Hollywood product. Warshaw quotes his own remarks critical of Hollywood from a 1998 SURFER'S JOURNAL article, but oddly enough this book seems to be more impressed by the slick fiction pics and dismissive of the less refined contributions. But these insights are mere value judgments, largely a matter of taste, mine and Warshaw's. and as the book's author, he's certainly entitled to his bias.
The real question is: where are the artists' credits? Warshaw writes about the film makers, the music and the stars, and he does mentions artists Rick Griffin and John Van Hammersveldt in his introduction. But for the almost all of this catalog of posters, the writer and/or editors choose not to credit the designers and artists whose works are herein displayed. This omission can not be dismissed as a simple oversight; Surf Movie Tonite! isn't a book about surf movies, its a book of surf movie posters! In some examples, the poster artist signed his work, but usually this was not the case. However, the surfing community isn't that large, and the missing information is pretty easily obtainable by any diligent researcher. By leaving the images uncredited and the designers overlooked, Warshaw and Chronicle Books ignore the significant contributions to the films advertised, to surf culture in general, and to their own book itself, of surfer artists like John Seversen, Bill Ogden, Jim Evans, and Terry Lamb, as well as artists unknown to me and the above mentioned Van Hammersveldt and Griffin, whose works are all reproduced without clear credit.
Warshaw finishes his Introduction with the flippant line, "Get Jim Jarmusch to direct, work up a good-looking poster, and it'll make the next edition of this book." Gee, Matt, ya think? With the kind of effort they put into this volume, Chronicle Books and Mr. Warshaw don't deserve another edition.

Recently, my wife, Patty, and I were brousing in a gourmet shop in Florence, Oregon, when she noticed a large, framed poster and asked the woman behind the counter if it was for sale. The proprietor said she had unframed copies available and began to tell her about getting it professionally mounted and framed. When Patty told her that Im a framer, the woman turned to me and said, Maybe you can tell meI think I paid too much, but I didnt ask ahead of time. So I didnt complain when the framer charged me $250. I gulped and took a second look at the poster. . . . I made a quick assessment and told the woman that she could have framed it herself for about $50. from Chapter One, Home Book of Picture Framing 2nd Edition

Big Mistake.......2007-09-28
These questions are misleading - I ordered one book, and received and paid for two - I have sent emails complaining, and all I get back (weeks later) is this stupid email asking me to rate the book - which book? - where were you when I asked how I got two books? And how do I correct this? - but NO, instead you send me this idiotic questionaire about "the book" I received - is anybody there? Are you people there, or am I talking to a computer? You pretend to care, but it appears you are just robots - HOW DID I GET TWO BOOKS, AFTER ORDERING ONE, PAY FOR TWO and GET ZERO RESPONSE TO MY QUESTIONS?!! Your computer generated concern is phony - the books were fine, Amazon is suspect!
Eener 3000.......2007-07-28
Treat this as an encyclopedia. There is a lot of good information in this book, but a lot more than you need to get going. I have only just finished wading through this thing (after six months) and would have been better off with a book 1/8 the size of this one. For a "How To" book, the author is way too verbose on his way to getting to the bottom line--if he ever does. Only because I am very good at puzzles was I able to pick out the things I really need and the best methods to complete anything - otherwise, you can get terribly confused. The author wastes a lot of time on "you could do this" and "some people do this" when the most helpful advice would be just to say, "Do this."
Don't take this as too harsh an indictment of the book. Afterall, I Learned Everything I Need to Know About Picture Framing from the book. There is A LOT of stuff in it. But I could have done, and you can do, without the exhaustive descriptions of differences between various manual, as well as, power tools. It's a hobby, I expect to spend some money...just tell me what do.
Very, very outdated.......2007-01-20
I bought this book as one of several to get started in framing. After lots of reading and research and actual framing, I realize how out-of-date this book is. The state of the framing art has advanced a lot since 1988. Much of the book is devoted to techniques, tools, and materials that have been superceded by far superior ones. A much better book is "Mat, Mount, and Frame It Yourself" by M David Logan.
Very Complete from start to finish.......2007-01-18
Book is in depth instruction & will be very helpful from start to finish for any project. The only negative is that it is in black & white. Color photos would make it much easier to look at.
Be cautious about this book!.......2006-12-14
This was the first book I bought when I became interested in picture framing. Since then I have read many other books on the subject, met many professional picture framers, taken courses in the subject, joined the Professional Picture Framers Association, and basically learnt much much more about the subject. I CANNOT recommend this book to any one who is new to picture framing. First, the information is scattered between many chapters, and is difficult to pull together. Second, many very important topics receive very little coverage. Third (the major problem for me): the author is first-and-foremost, a wood worker, and this is reflected in the book. Thus, there are many chapters discussing tools that most professional picture framers would never buy, methods that most professional picture framers would never use, inadequate discussion of conservation framing vs. non-conservation methods, mat cutting, etc. If you are interested in making your own wood picture frames, this is the book for you. If you are new to the subject or are interested in many of the other aspects of picture framing, you would be much better off with one or more books by David Logan, Vivian Kistler, or others.
